There’s so many things about renegade that COULD be good and just fall completely short, which makes me more than a little salty.

In WvW it’s complete and utter trash. Energy costs are way too high, you have few stunbreaks, no condi defense, no swiftness, etc. Remove everything that’s good about herald and you have renegade.

Yeah I read this wrong initially too, thought it provided the buff to everyone. I feel like it’d be worthy of a grandmaster trait that does, in fact, provide this buff to 5 allies, but 20% condi damage and 20% critical damage sounds a bit strong considering how easy it will be to keep up 10 stacks assuming there’s no ICD on it.

I’m hoping this can fill the role of glassy backline support and bombs. You lose so much defense with the loss of Glint and Shield that you’re going to need a healbot ele/druid/mes/etc in your group to cover yourself. Perhaps it can play the old role that necro did in WvW, that of backline bombs, but with more support for everyone in your party.

The elite skill, if there’s no ICD on the life siphon, sounds absolutely broken if you can keep it up for over 5 seconds. Imagine a guardian hitting with Whirling Wrath and getting 750 extra damage every hit, and healing themselves at the same time. Sounds like a cool design, but depending on whether you have enough energy to keep it up for a prolonged period of time, would absolutely swing fights if the siphon has no ICD. Imagine it for yourself too. Devastation/Invocation/Renegade could give you absurd life siphon ability, which leads me to believe it’s definitely going to be a backline spec.

Was checking the footage, there’s a moment where she uses sevenshot and two of the shots hit the target, both getting the 750 lifesteal damage pop up at the same time, so it doesn’t seemto have an ICD.
That said, it does say it can only empower players, so unlike the necro vampiric aura and traits, it won’t work with summons

Right, i’m just thinking from a WvW backline perspective if it can provide the focus damage that old axe well necro did, plus crazy offensive support. Since you can target where the charr lands, you should be able to put it on your frontline, who usually do a lot of strikes but little damage per strike due to their tank stats. If you have guardians doing Whirling Wrath or even Staff 1 with the siphon up, you can imagine the incredible boosted damage that will be coming out of your frontline while also sustaining them.

My biggest question is now if the charr can die while they’re summoned. If they can’t be damaged, I think this would be an extremely strong offensive support spec, but if they can die, Renegade loses a lot of its utility.

Looks like a backline dps support spec. Hopefully the skills scale decently with power, because we know that the condi damage will be ridiculously strong.

I feel that with the high energy costs of this legend (it has 12 skills that require energy), it’s intended to play differently than herald, instead of bolstering the frontline with boons, you can bolster your backline with bleeding (sharpening stone effect), lifesteal from elite, and you can deal some solid power/condi damage yourself with SB/Citadel Orders while also singling targets out with Scorchrazor as well as debilitating condis (slow/cripple).

I can view Renegade as being pretty strong-sounding in PvE, especially depending on its traits. It seems like extremely good offensive support and heavy condition damage from the backline or frontline. I would assume a new condi build for PvE would be something like devastation/corruption/renegade. With the Assassin’s Presence and full stacks of Kalla’s Fervor, you’re giving your teammates each 20% condi damage and 450 ferocity (or 30% crit). That’s massive offensive support.

As for defensive support, and even more importantly, self-defense, it looks lackluster. The -33% condi damage from the heal is nice but it is a group focused heal and you’re going to need a dedicated healer to keep you up if you do get pressured. Look at all the defense/heals you lose from Glint. You lose all your boons, you lose Shield 4 and 5 (blocks, heals, and protection), you lose your facet of nature, you lose your Infuse Light. The only defensive thing Renegade has so far is its heal, which at first glance doesn’t even look as good as Glint heal not to mention all the other defensives you lose.

I’m most interested to find out how Renegade will play out in WvW. When I look at the ability to heal allies, and skills that appear that they’ll scale alright with condition damage, I think immediately of a celestial build that is placed in a group with a minstrel ele/minstrel mesmer, or something. Renegade looks like it can really keep up the offensive support but I don’t think it will be a very sustainable roamer as herald is.

That said it is a new way to play revenant. I’m ready to give it a shot although herald is my favorite playstyle of all time. We need to see the traits before we can make a conclusion. It’s worth a shot.

I play this game for 4 years and i don’t have 2k.

Then you didn’t spend that long in WvW or you didn’t spend your time in WvW very effectively. Capture objectives and kill players, easy to get WXP. My group runs 5 people for about 3 hours a night on raid nights and I usually get 5-10 ranks per run depending on who we’re fighting against.

So you are telling me that this wvw should be played only in big zergs trying to ppt all the time, forget the fights and do nothing besides that?

Well, i don’t think so. I play as a roamer and until last year i was on a big guilds.
There is no right or wrong. It is still an absurd require so much of a player for a game, it is not health at all and dissipate that idea only shows anet doesn’t care.

And btw, what bothers me the most is not the rank requirement (still ridiculous for a upgrade of an ascended set) are the pips needed to get the rewards that is an absurd.

Reading comprehension skills need to be used here. I specifically said that I run in a group of 5 people. What part of that sounds like we play in a big zerg ppting all day?

I guess this is my fault that i used my time playing this game as a roamer and it is less valuable than someone blobing.

As a roamer, I again say that you were not doing a good job roaming if you aren’t getting good WXP in the process. I don’t run with blobs, I run in a group of 5 people who avoid the blobs and do our own thing for our own fights and we also cap objectives along the way. That is how you get to be a useful roamer to your server as well as get fights. If you’re just standing outside of the enemies spawn waiting to pick up bad players on a thief, you’re not a roamer, you’re just being a bad solo player.

First things first: A 5-man group is not roaming, it’s havoc. You are running a havoc group if you want to go around capping objectives with 5 people in order to draw out fights.

Second thing second: People can play this game the way they want and maybe they want to fight 1vX and 2vX on the builds that they want instead of run some 5-man comp and still end up just ganking solos and duos in the process. Telling someone they’re doing a “bad job roaming” if they don’t get a bunch of WXP in the process is not only an objectively wrong statement, it’s also ridiculously condescending. I search for fights that involve a maximum of 5 people from both sides, and I don’t get a bunch of WXP roaming. I just prefer to fight small and not worry about drawing people out by capping objectives.

Third thing third: I must say that you attempting to call out someone else’s reading comprehension when all you’ve been doing for the entirety of this thread is telling other people “well u must be doin it wrong then lul” is a bit hypocritical. The only way to do something wrong in a video game is if you’re not enjoying it.

I think the bigger problem is how much you have to play every week to get the maximum of 175 skirmish tickets. Essentially you’ve got to play between 2 and 4 hours every single day, give or take based on rank and server success. It shows that these end-of-the-line rewards are definitely for the people who already play WvW all the time, and are intended to be an extremely distant final reward for people starting up the gamemode. However, I don’t think your average human being has 3 to 4 hours to spend solely on WvW every day.

isn’t the whole point to reward those that play/ have played wvw loyally? just like the legendary armor rewards those that do raids or basically any other legendary before rewarded people who grinded pve. for those complaining about getting ranks, you think wvwers enjoyed map comp? Pvers got their rewards for years, let wvwers have theres

I’m talking about people who can’t spend 4 hours a day on GW2 in total regardless of their preferred gamemode. People have school, jobs, commutes, family, friends, lives. That doesn’t always translate into having 4 hours to spend in a game every day.

fair enough, sorry to have assumed. ive been playing wvw for the past 4 years with some breaks on and off and im not even rank 2k (1.8k i think) so i can understand. im sure anet will adjust the pips and maybe lower the rank requirement to like 1.5k. i just think some people like the OP are just expecting handouts cause they ventured into wvw once a month

All good- no offense taken. I’ve been playing for the past 4 years as well, but I’m actually one of those people who didn’t really have a lot of better things to do in the last 4 years so I’m getting my mithril rewards. My playtime has dropped drastically recently due to real life stuff, but I’m still happy about this patch. I just hope that Anet finds a reasonable balance between the crowd clamoring for rewards and the more experienced players who want exclusivity.

That said, I still think the pip requirement is a bit absurd. I can afford to play 17 hours a week for a little bit longer, but I know that there are plenty of people who have other extenuating circumstances. And it’s only 17 hours for me, a mithril rank- someone who is gold is 24 pips short per hour compared to me (which really adds up over the course of a week), and it’s even worse for other people who want to get into WvW- it may feel insurmountable for them.

As for the rank requirement I think it’s dumb, any blobling can get to 2k easily while small-group roamers get the shaft.

What to do against thieves now?

This matchup honestly depends on the thief more than anything. If you’re an average rev against an average thief, you will probably win solely because you put out too much damage, they panic, and one dumb mistake leads to their death. If you’re a slightly above average rev against a slightly above average thief, you should still probably win more often than not.

But now that retribution is dead, and even arguably before the nerf, no revenant should beat a truly good thief in a 1v1, no matter how good of a revenant you are. Any good thief can deny you stability procs more than often. The gaps in your stab provide them plenty of time to headshot you, and even when you do have stab, remember how low of a cooldown Steal is- you’ll just get interrupted anyway because they’ll steal the stab.

The combination of pulm procs being far too easy to get (because rev is always casting something- no instant damage), shield 5/staff 3 being a free pulm with basi, the ridiculous damage of essence sap/tooltip being incorrect, the fact that slow bugs out pretty much every revenant skill, the ability of thief to spam stealth and usually random dodge reveal, and ability to evade our pitiful Enchanted Daggers (wasting charges on nothing) all contribute to thief being the second hardest counter to power rev. Sorry for the run-on sentence.

These days I never swap off invocation, even to fight thieves. You won’t really have a chance against an expert thief no matter what you do, so keep the pressure on, and don’t get caught casting any skills while their character is facing you and is in d/p. Wait for them to make the first move, or wait till they are on the defensive since they cannot headshot while they are running away.

I second the advice to run axe offhand against thieves. Shield abilities are just too easy to interrupt. However, you can play around basi if you count the cooldown.

Here you go OP. Here’s my viewpoint.

I find it extremely frustrating that i need to sit in PvE and grind out a bunch of mindless farming so that I can get a precursor, mystic clovers, gifts of map completion, gift of insights, dungeon tokens, and many other materials. I do not like PvE even a little i have no clue what anet was thinking when they decided to make these the requirements im sure most WvW players can agree its absolute crap! just let us buy the mats with badges or let us earn it somehow in our preferred gamemode anything but this.

There are two sides to every coin, friend. If I had it my way I’d make everyone PvP or WvW for legendary weapons and other cool skins. I decide instead to suck it up and PvE instead of making the absolutely asinine complaint that I have to spend 5 hours playing WvW.

Sad but true, this game comes down to who has the 1/10 uncarryable players on their team. I’m a couple wins away from x2 (started the season 2 weeks ago) and keep getting the most awful diamond players on my teams. It’s a miracle they were carried that high n the first place.

By this logic, DB should have had their glicko rating adjusted downward and Mag’s rating should have been adjusted upward two weeks ago. Anytime a server gets stacked or has a large number of players leave, Anet should manually adjust the glicko rating. That will help to foster a sense of fair and competitive play. /sarcasm

Of course it will. WvW has never been anything except fair competitive play with an extremely high skill cap.

Look at the scores for all 4 tiers. No one is getting blown out. Mag is competitive in T1, YB is competitive in T2.

92% win rate through sapphire and ruby, down to 57% in diamond (just 7 games in T1) and 84% overall. I remember this game where we had two mesmers on Forest and they continually killed beast, running around and completely ignoring points (neither brought portal). The worst part is that we won that game somehow.

On one hand, I totally understand that your win rate should go down as you face better competition. On the other hand, I wouldn’t expect the average ruby pug to be better than the average diamond pug but that’s how it seems to roll in T1. It’s amazing when most of the opposing team is pretty bad but your team somehow manages to be worse. I mean of course legendary is a foregone conclusion but good lord it’s an annoying path when you get matched with people who are uncarryable.

I consider a reset to be a draw. Both the thief and the target go out of combat, so the regeneration and skills going off cooldown is the same for both. The thief doesn’t want to need to reset the fight, because burning their cooldowns is important to create openings against many classes. For tanky classes their heal will be back up the fastest, which creates more of a pain for the thief trying to get the kill.

It isn’t a loss because thief mobility is a part of the class, as is stepping out of combat when things aren’t working out. But it certainly isn’t a win either. If the question is victory there are two standards: getting them down and stomping them. Getting them down is far easier, the stomp is harder when dealing with multiple people.

And roaming is all about dealing with multiples. Server 1 v Server 2 is always a risk that Server 3’s zerg comes along to try and flatten you both. Years ago I saw a thief take on 3 or four people at once. It was impressive to watch—as his enemy—and gave me something to aspire to. That is what roaming is to me. Aspiring to be good enough to stand before four people alone and strike fear into their hearts.

A reset is not a draw. 99% of the time a reset is the thief running out of combat because they realize they are losing and it’s time to bail.

General tier list for WvW roaming/dueling?

Tier list isn’t a thing.

If you want a personal recommendation I recommend playing invocation revenant. The only power build rev will lose to is a thief or an extremely well played druid, and since you will be playing WvW the level of competition isn’t great anyway.

Rev gets hard countered by most anything condi, but remember you have the best mobility out of any class (obviously except for thief) so you can just run away if you don’t want to fight. It’s a great class.

I agree that the meta has become a bit ridiculous but your guild’s comp is just as bad. If you want to have any reasonably exciting fights I suggest roaming.

I agree in that focusing a certain target to the ground is probably about the only thing people can do nowadays and that outside of “sniping” a person, extremely poor positioning is the only thing that will get a frontliner killed.

Now if perhaps your pick team was competent that fight would have ended sooner… oh wait you don’t have one.

Yeah, it seems like some of yall are still concerned with PPT in 2016. If you’re so worried about population affecting matchups, just make winning servers in T2, T3, and T4 move up a tier next week, and then make losing servers in the top two tiers (edited, somehow this said kitten) and T3 move down a tier next week.

Population isn’t the issue, it’s the absolute idiocy of still using glicko ratings to determine matchups that keep giving people stale fights and servers not being put in their place quickly enough.

Yeah sure it’s bad behavior but it happens all the time. Expecting people to be reasonable out on the field in an internet game is not going to happen.

I’ve had people rez after losing a duel and keep charging after me after resetting. I’ve had people tell their friends to gank me while they’re still in downstate. I’ve been AJ’d and stomped out multiple times but it’s all okay, it’s a game.

Etiquette has been dead a long time but it’s always nice to have a good conversation after a fight- well, if your opponent is one of those respectable people!

Anet uses their own metrics for this. It’s never going to be perfectly balanced and it shouldn’t be. Players control the population and play of a server.

Mass exodus from YB combined with those guilds going to DB/IoJ means that DB moves up to T1, and that the linking accomplished its goal of shaking up the tiers and preventing stale matchups.

More than that, though, the players wanted to move up and by increasing the population of the server, they achieved it. Can’t prevent people from doing what they want to do.

I don’t know, the videos I have on my channel have me destroying one of you QQ kids in almost every single one! Everyone knows you are trash, and the fact that you need to run condi or tank builds to win any fight just proves it.

Thief is best at running away following a lost fight.

Thief is really good when you outnumber the enemy.

Thief also has a really stupid condi build that should pretty much never lose to anything.

Also just curious, why so many dragon emotes in amber saphire and emerald?

because… you don’t have to be good to be dragon rank?

bottom line is everyone just complains too much, play a lot and you’ll get there. i’ve been taking it easy with 40 games played, exactly midway through ruby and there’s no question at all i’ll get legendary again. it’s not hard and certainly not “impossible.”

I like the idea of giving out Triumphant Hero’s and Mistforged Hero’s armor and weapons as match rewards, but the rank requirement doesn’t make any sense in that a person is not allowed to purchase any if they are under rank 1k. Why not simply make these armor and weapons ascended quality, allowing us to pick any stats we like, and give us one of these boxes at rank 500, 1000, 1500, et cetera? I think one ascended armor/weapon box every 500 ranks sounds fair.

Even though Triumphant Hero’s armor will never have the prestige associated with Glorious Hero’s armor (I have only one piece of that and get comments about it all the time), I think nice skins like this should be directly correlated to how much you play in WvW, and considering right now the only thing a relatively high rank gets you is focus from the enemies, it would be a fair reward in my opinion.

Qualified for Triple 9 Society(158 Stanford-Binet). Can beat you guys down in game, in real life (6’4 220) and while comparing mental acuity to a genius like me you are a group of troglodytes. A woman does not have near the amount of MLG points, reflexes, intelligence, nor reaction time to take me on at a video game. How many MLG events have you placed in? I have been top 10 in several Halo:CE events and have signed contracts as a semi-professional video game player. Playing against a girl wouldn’t even be worth my time

I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target.

I have a masters in psychology, a job that doesn’t use that degree, student loans that won’t go away anytime soon, and I bet I can’t beat most people in a duel in GW2. I’m sure all of that matters to no one though

Unfortunately, the creeper thing is a real issue. Even as a guy, I get really creeped out because people can act very strange when they seem to be like OMGZ A GURL. It really doesn’t help when people blurt out insensitive kitten and the such.

Yea I know it’s the internet, but trying to justify that is also why a lot of people won’t touch those same netfolk with a ten foot pole.

Precisely. And those creepy types are also why the attention-seeking women get what they want. So you end up with a dysfunctional bunch of creepy men and attention-seeking women, which can turn into a disaster.

Thankfully there’s plenty of normal people of both genders who just want to play the game with other people because they enjoy the game and they enjoy interacting with other players.

Study the ratio of men to women in this game before you act like there’s no female commanders. Male commanders will always be most common because this game is a sausagefest. And I don’t even know why I’m still commenting on here, lol.

There’s no discussion to be had. Less women play games than men, and that holds true for this game.

Secondly, there’s a lot of weird men who play this game who any women would be wise to shy away from. This game is a sausagefest just like any game.

ProTip: Popping Courage five seconds BEFORE an engage is not a smart idea. Any smart guild will just back off because you waste your cooldowns. Random double dodges are also not a smart idea.

I don’t see the point of putting in clips of you getting shrekt by GS. I don’t think anyone actually enjoys watching these, every day I look at the GW2 subreddit and there’s a new bad video posted.
