No one is honorable in this game nor does anyone need to be. I’ll duel sometimes but sometimes it’ll get interfered with, yeah, that’s fine. Not all people who duel are really all about those fair fights anyway, most everyone I duel and I myself will gladly engage in a 5v1 in the borderlands. There’s too much crying and not enough playing.
I face BG on a daily basis so I assume I’ll get ganked- there’s never really any true hard feelings. It’s in the game, so everyone’s entitled to enjoy their 5v1s as much as their 1v1s or zergfights or whatever you wanna do
So he spends 3/4 of the time repping Overgrowth and complains that he can’t rep Devona’s Rest. K.
In the time you have off from the game because playing alongside your comrades under a different server name for a TEMPORARY period, you could try “outside”. Rank 7600, like wut.
None of your changes will make the game better.
You’re turning guardian into an unkillable tank that also manages to full heal every second and deals massive damage to enemies through either power or conditions and also applies every boon in the game all the time.
You’re turning ranger into an unkillable tank that also manages to full heal every second and deals massive damage to enemies through either power or conditions and also applies every boon in the game all the time.
Your effort is admirable, but I would rather have Karl balancing the game. And that’s saying something. Sorry.
Had the pleasure of running into Drew in my own game to get legendary today, and to duel him before. He’s a legit warrior and deserves every bit of that title!
tfw illusion of life
I don’t agree with BG players much but I agree with them (and everyone else) to change reset to Friday.
Lol, if this was from a T1 member asking for the stereotypes of other T1 players, this would’ve been locked a day ago.
There goes another of the all-time greats. Tough to hang on to this game mode no doubt.
As a WvW player, I’m glad guardians (and DH) still have a place in zerging as well as roaming groups. As a solo roamer, it’s a rougher life considering that guardians and by extension dragonhunters now get countered by the elite specs of classes they used to destroy (druid, scrapper), continue to get countered by elementalist in the form of tempest, and don’t do great against heralds either.
Guardian has fallen far down the rungs of 1v1 supremacy as far as glassy builds go, but there’s nothing I’d rather be playing in anything from 2v2 up to a full on blob fight. The skill cap has been increased by the necessity of spatial awareness for virtue placement, and the rewards of the new virtues match up with this increased dimension.
I’d agree that guardians do need some buffs, but hopefully something mechanical and not just a damage increase. Even though it’s very good, I don’t have fun plinking True Shots on an enemy, and I certainly dislike that our damage potential is higher on a ranged weapon than a melee one, leading players to camp longbow because it is simply more rewarding.
Maybe it’d be wise for you to focus on fighting instead of complaining about something that you have already brought to the developers’ attention multiple times.
I love YB but I’ve slept with every server and its mother in the past.
Transfer to BG, the server that has the most gank squads, that way you won’t have to deal with them chasing you for god knows how long. It probably is safest to roam on BG.
The new meta for roaming is to not do it. Having only one map that can provide reliable fights is rather lousy, as the enemy’s 5 man gank group will be after you the whole time you’re on it.
Not to mention everyone is playing either bunker 1v1 builds that are boring to face or builds reliant on stealth to engage/disengage, or both. (That’s called scrapper). Also a bunch of Revenants running around, which is actually a fun fight. A bunch of terribad Dragonhunters thinking they can pull me into their traps. And a bunch of Daredevils who dodge, dodge, dodge, and miss one dodge and die.
Basically, roaming is dead. I find a fun fighter to duel, or I just zerg. And this is coming from a person who has roamed for 2 years. It’s pretty sad.
Build solid, gameplay needs some work. You need to be better chaining skills with JI and using virtues in the course of a fight. Can’t do a virtue bomb with Renewed anymore.
However, you were facing some serious condi builds, and overall this is about what we’d expect out of gameplay with a completely new spec. Entertaining watch.
Oh yeah, I agree. Honestly it’s a wider problem with the balancing of this game in general, and how the meta shifts.
Medi-guard used to be god tier in terms of dueling other power builds. However, now we get surpassed by all the classes I mentioned above (scrapper, reaper, mesmer/chronomancer) and although I haven’t suddenly become terrible at the game, it’s a lot easier to take my build down. However, we’ve become good in teamfights, and now have the best condi cleanse in the game. Etc etc.
This game’s never been great at balancing, nor is it supposed to be balanced around 1v1, which is something I’ve often enjoyed doing. However, these days, the only 1v1 I care about is a duel with the same class, same build. The guardian community is usually pretty fickle when it comes to balancing changes, but to be fair to us, mesmer has received such crazy buffs while we’ve been stuck wallowing in the dirt.
At least we don’t play thief.
It’s not making anything obsolete, nor are these nerfs particularly bad.
What I don’t think many are pleased with is the fact that Dragonhunter was singled out for a shave so quickly- dating back to last night.
It’s the principle that has people up in arms.
I feel sorry for thieves. At least our spec works, they got a glorified monkey king tonic.
However, no one seems to pay attention to the fact that DH will lose to a scrapper, reaper, chronomancer or a regular mesmer.
I don’t know what anyone is complaining about.
Dragonhunter is extremely weak to mesmers, both chrono and regular, as well as having a bad time with reapers and scrappers.
The lack of instant cast virtues turned a 1v1 match with a PU shatter mesmer from slightly not in our favor to an absolutely terrible matchup, and a chronomancer with the shield block is… yeah.
Other classes have got it just as good if not better. Why cry about this?
Even give it to us at a rate of 1 Notarized scroll per 10 ranks to give us a bit of a head start on all of our characters. I think that’s at least fair.
With all due respect to the WvW team and the game you’ve created, I think it’s clear that the overwhelming feedback is that this is an absolutely terrible, bottom-of-the-barrel idea.
WvWers enjoy Friday night resets. Now we won’t have the same fun dynamic because of people who won’t be awake or would rather be doing other stuff during resets.
Not to mention any server without a dedicated SEA timezone crew is going to get absolutely hosed during reset, because after all this is a game and I enjoy playing during my timezone and not pulling crazy overtime.
Please recognize your mistake and revert the changes altogether. It is not bad to be wrong, but seeing the community feedback, I believe it’d be in everyone’s best interest if we could just have our Friday night resets back. It’s the one time of the week when the whole server can get together and fight as one, and this dynamic will be lost.
I like everything I’m reading. Would still be nice to know if you guys are working on fixing the Hunter’s Fortification grandmaster, but I think that’s moving traps in the right direction. Definitely still worth it to slot Hunter’s Determination, FoF will give me the stunbreak I’m missing by dropping virtues.
Especially excited for Hunter’s Verdict, would it go in the F4 slot?
Alas, it was indeed a bug and needed to be fixed. A single skill that deals that much damage (from being CC’d, nonetheless) was a bit much. Sleight of hand was your best friend this last weekend in PvP.
RIP the only trap worth taking over a medi.
^
Back to the skill bar we’ve used for 3 years, I guess.
8 months later and this guy is still horrible.
If you don’t recall, this was also the guy claiming to be the “best guardian NA” and “undefeated 1v1,” posting videos of himself playing a spirit weapon condi guard facing either terrible players (while claiming these players were competent) or people whose builds don’t bring any condi cleanse.
To which I responded by crushing him something like 5-0, and he somewhat disappeared, but it seems like he’s playing a brand new cheese build that also, strangely, only works against absolutely terrible players. Simply don’t click on the video, it’ll waste your time.
Soooo basically you’re bragging about beating a bad player, even going as far as to bring up something no one remembers/cares about AND putting up your score l … lol
Hello there pot, have you met kettle ?
I don’t brag, nor do I care. Never have I told anyone I’m the best guardian NA, or made ridiculous claims about my builds or skill. I simply put him in his place, which is… not very high.
Well, to me, now, it’s still worth taking the trait for. However, I won’t consider slotting it and replacing one of the medis.
There it drops. Ripperonis. It’ll still be worth taking the trait for but imo it should at least have the same power scaling as Shield of Wrath. This trap was the only reason anyone going the pure Dragonhunter route was able to win this weekend.
You will be missed, FoF.

Hey Karl-
I really appreciate what you’ve done for the spec this time around, and I feel like it’s starting to feel great, really fluid- I had a fun time roaming on it in WvW this weekend, modifying my standard meditation build for the new spec.
That said, this is a feedback thread, and I’ll touch on a few of the issues that my fellow beta testers have had with the class.
1. Fix the behavior of Hunter’s Fortification- it seems like it wasn’t coded properly to interact with the blocks Guardian has. If it behaves as advertised in the trait panel, it will truly be worthy of a GM trait.
2. Minor traits- Defender’s Dogma is still sub-par- and I do agree with others that Pure of Sight should simply be merged into Heavy Light, creating internal synergy in the trait (knock them back to get the damage modifier), and replaced with the generic 25% movement speed trait with 33% reduction on cripple, chill, and immobilize. This fits within the selfish nature of Dragonhunter, and also fits thematically with the mobile hunter ideal.
3. Heavy Light- as mentioned in my previous point, needs a bit of a buff to compete with the wonderful traits that Big Game Hunter is, and Hunter’s Fortification should be.
4. Fragments of Faith- bugged to hit twice. Now it’s nowhere near as ridiculous as Gun Flame, but this trap has been almost too effective. I’d suggest increasing the damage to match that of a Shield of Wrath, but I’m very, very happy with the way this trap will perform even after the damage is “nerfed,” aka, un-bugged.
Now some positives.
1. Virtues! Yes! This is the functionality I’ve been looking for this whole time. I enjoy Radiance guardian, and Spear of Justice is absolutely fantastic with recharge on kill and low cooldown to begin with. Wings of Resolve being the same range as a Jump Shot has also been a great improvement, and the attack can really hit hard. Shield of Courage’s functionality is now fixed, and I personally believe the cooldown is fair for what it brings to the field.
2. Hunter’s Determination- I always enjoy taking traits that give me an “extra skill,” so to speak, on my utility bar- such as Smiter’s Boon and Wrath of Justice. This one doesn’t disappoint and allows me to take a trap for free while not sacrificing any meditations.
3. Big Game Hunter and synergy with Radiance- This GM trait was always beautifully designed. Kudos to whoever came up with the initial idea for this one, and it fits perfectly with the reduced cooldown and unblockable function on Spear, and the Radiance traits with Spear make it an invaluable virtue.
At any rate, now I can see myself actually taking this line to roam and play WvW. In a zerg fight, the standard virtues have been considerably more clutch, but with small man fights, I’m impressed with DH’s performance. I’ve even seen some full trap DH’s do alright in fights.
Thanks for your continued work, you’re well on the way to making this the truly elite specialization it can be.
Duo ganking solo Thieves, Mes jumping on and emoting at peoples corpses, one-shotting people from stealth.
Next video please.
Yes, clearly didn’t pay attention considering I was the warrior in this video and I didn’t touch the thief- she’s a good friend of mine and there’s a reason I didn’t attack her.
OP didn’t make this video to showcase skill, he made it to have fun. And, of course, to show himself getting hard carried by that bad-kitten guardian in the 2v4.
Oh, skill? I didn’t mention that anywhere. I was just pointing out that this is one of a plethora of videos where a Mes is doing a less than exciting roaming montage and we all know the run down. But in this case there was also taunting so it just makes it even worse.
Good thing the video was for fun though because skill definitely wouldn’t have been a better reason to post it.
You certainly seem very disdainful of mesmers. I wish we were pro like you!

Hehe hehe hehe.
Lemme spell it out for you. Please turn your vision to Pure of Heart, which says “Aegis heals when it blocks an attack.” Hunter’s Fortification reads “Remove conditions when blocking attacks,” not “Aegis removes a condition when it blocks an attack.”
If Hunter’s Fortification is supposed to be the pile of garbage that it has been this weekend, be my guest and run a trait that gets thorougly outclassed and teabagged by Big Game Hunter.
Hehe. Hehe. Hehehehehehehehe.
Then it would be an extremely useless trait even for a minor, not to mention a Grandmaster Major. I would like an answer on this because the trait is simply not performing like it should. There’s no way the design could be that bad, imo.
Let’s face it, the 10% damage reduction is not what any1 care’s about, as a DH we need to be able to get rid of condi’s somehow and to do that remove the ICD and we all would be happy.
If you ask me removing the ICD would make DH essentially a hard-counter to condition builds if also specced into virtues and valor. 1 second ICD will work great. Just make sure the freakin’ trait works.
10% damage reduction isn’t the important part of the trait but I’d also like to see it changed to something useful.
The new Hunter’s Fortification, which is said to remove conditions on a block with a 1 second internal cooldown, is a fantastic concept, and if the trait functioned properly, it would be a Grandmaster trait worth taking and definitely worth going the Dragonhunter route with.
However, through extensive testing this BWE, the trait just… doesn’t work.
Hunter’s Fortification should have synergy with:
Aegis
Shield of Wrath
Shelter
Shield of Courage
on a scepter/focus build. However, when I blocked with any of these, conditions were not removed. I haven’t tested the 10% damage reduction, mainly because the part of the trait that people will take it for (condi removal) isn’t functioning almost all the time.
I’ve tested this with friends in WvW and PvP. The trait simply doesn’t function properly to remove conditions, or the ICD was mistakenly coded at 10 seconds instead of 1 second, resulting in me not noticing any conditions being removed.
Please look into fixing the behavior of this trait. If it functions properly, it can serve as cleanse for a Dragonhunter and really open up some build diversity.
Pretty lame but hey, this player can’t kill someone in a real fight and he’s willing to spend the time with someone who consents to dying, so more power to him. I’ve been Platinum before he was even Gold rank, I go to T2 for a month and a half, I get back, bam, he’s Platinum Colonel. Props to that.
Both minor traits are still rather useless. Overall, my thoughts are about the same as Lucentfir- we had a discussion in game about the changes. Your changes are bringing the specialization in the right direction, but we’d hope to see you looking into Defender’s Dogma and Pure of Sight, as well as the range on Wings of Resolve. However, I can understand if you want to keep it as is, since it’s already been put absolutely on steroids from how the original version was.
Also, can you clarify how Wrath of Justice interacts with Spear of Justice? Right now, it just activates on the next hit that connects after pressing F1, which I think is good design. Is this going to be an all-or-nothing “Spear hits, you get the immob, if it doesn’t, it’s gone” or will it be on the next hit as well?
I’m glad that a DH-Valor-Radiance build may have viable condi clear with the new Hunter’s Fortification. Hopefully the synergy with Radiance traits is good.

For Heart of Thorns, we are rebalancing the WvW Lifetime achievement requirements to much more reasonable numbers. At the same time we’ll also be updating many of their associated titles.
- We are not changing the Realm Avenger (“Ultimate Dominator”) achievement requirements or title, as some players have actually obtained it and it’s a bit of a status symbol.
- The “Yakslapper” title will remain, but the requirement is being reduced to 2500 yaks.
- As an example title change: “Ultimate Liberator” will become “Kingmaker”
Bit too easy to get Yakslapper if you ask me. I’m about rank 3150, and I already have 10k yaks killed while never having focused on it. Everyone and their mother’s gonna be running around with it, haha.
Good start, though! I’ll be interested to see the numbers on the other titles.
No. No, we don’t.
A lot of things I’d nerf in a vacuum. What comes to mind as the strongest right now is Wrath of Justice immob duration. However, Signet of Earth immobs for the same duration, also applies 5 bleed stacks, and has a much better signet trait.
I’m gonna go with burning application, since I don’t run condi often and when I have it’s been mindless. I shouldn’t have burning ticks at 1,000 on a guardian with 0 condi damage, ever. Fix the stuff that Redgen mentioned please
Alright, we’re making progress.
Although I’m pleased with the buffs to our new Virtues, I’m not sure they are in the right place- I’m still worried about DH synergy with the Virtues, both Radiance and Virtues lines.
F1 blind/immobilize traits from Radiance need to properly synergize with the Spear of Justice.
F2 interactions with interrupts: This skill is easily as telegraphed as an Earthshaker, on a much longer cooldown, and goes on full cooldown if interrupted with none of the benefits you traited for. Having what once was one of your biggest cleanses interrupted by, say, a perplexity necro, causes you to not only not cleanse the conditions already on you, but have even more conditions than before, is a huge problem. I’d think that at the least, if it gets interrupted, negate the attack but activate Absolute Resolution. It’s clunky to use- I understand if it gets interrupted, the movement is already done etc, but condition cleanse from AR should be absolutely front-loaded. I’m on the fence about the heal though, since the heal’s been buffed it probably makes sense to negate the heal if interrupted, or heal at the area where the wings get interrupted.
F3: Should be instant cast, period. Being unable to pop stability/aegis mid-stomp is a ridiculous issue. Should also block all attacks, if Revenant can have a similar shield on a lower cast time.
Longbow: You forgot the most important thing about Symbol of Energy, as a lot of the other posters have stated, make it interact like Combustive Shot/Arcing Arrow. Longbow already lacks kiting potential compared to scepter/focus and this issue makes it absolutely crippling.
Agreed completely with OP, ridiculous to have one of the skilled aspects of guardian gameplay be undermined and make the gap between a great and average guardian even smaller (as if guardian duels in pvp didn’t depend on sigil procs a good amount of the time anyway).
Public opinion of roamers only matters based on how many viewers watch their stream and what highlights they post on YT. It means nothing when you encounter them in game.
I just recently left T1, where there’s pretty much only one guardian streamer and he is widely regarded as the best guardian due to his streaming proficiency and interactions with viewers. I dueled him 10 or 11 times without losing a single round. In fact, in T1, I didn’t lose a set of duels to another guardian in eight months. However, people only know me as that forum troll, which is fine with me! I’m hoping for more challenges in T2.
Also you need to keep in mind counters- rarely will someone beat every build he faces, and a LOT of people dislike mirror matches. This makes it difficult to decide who is the “best.” You can have a fantastic condi engi get wrecked by a necro, or a very skilled thief lose to a guardian hardly being able to react. It’s impossible to determine.
Keeping a lower profile in game is always something that’s appealed to me. Execute and laugh when people whisper you getting mad about how you killed them.
You should be beating a majority of builds, power or condi, in a 1v1 if it’s not a PU shatter mesmer or a d/d ele. Don’t embarrass yourself anymore.
Overall no problem with the changes. The lack of counterplay on F1 blind was a sticking point for a lot of my opponents (I run radiance and have always run at least one point in it prior to the patch) and I feel like adding the ability to dodge or have a block up to avoid the blind is pretty reasonable. If defenses don’t work (except invuln) and just being in the area makes you blind, that’s just not a very well designed mechanic.
Also helps those of us who run Focus Mastery over Smiter’s Boon (myself not included, but a good bug fix).
many of us from JQ and BG moving to YB
So if you want to come up to T1 and replace the dead wood, we have openings! Please have a sense of server pride and care about being a part of a larger community. TY
I love the people who think we’re dead to them because we leave a server. You’re welcome for all the work we did for Jade Quarry.
I’m just glad your deplorable opinion isn’t shared by many of my other friends on the server .
This week was total garbage. The golem event turned raiding guilds and roamers alike off of playing WvW, and the large shakeup in T1/T2 with many of us from JQ and BG moving to YB also contributed to empty maps. Hopefully they’ll read the feedback from the golem week and know not to try something like it again. It’s over now, so we can get on with our lives.
Before we moved? Clearly this.
My guild transferred to YB because we wanted to. I could never have foreseen myself leaving JQ but alas, guild loyalty trumps server loyalty. And so far, it looks like YB has been a great choice. Friendly and well-rounded community.
It’s 2015 people. Everyone complains. Go with your friends and you will have fun.
