34. The Arena Net team actively listen and consider the feedback from the GW2 sPvP community, and use their suggestions to balance the game. Their monthly CDI threads are their way of reaching out to the community that makes it feel like combined effort of Arenanet and the players in furthering the depth of the game.

35. The Balance team reacts quickly to apply hotfixes to bugs and regularly implement excellent patches every 2 months that introduce minor changes to the game that provide an excellent impact to the game.

36. The GW2 Community are always positively lively and brimming with excitement in reaction to new balance patches.

I think acandis is targetting the wrong people. Please rename devs to Balance Team.
Pretty sure the sPvP team plays Team/SoloQ, in order for them to hopefully make new stuff for the sPvP format. Don’t forget that the sPvP team do not have any direct influence nor make the final calls on the balance changes, it’s the Balance Team that decides, on all 3 modes of the game.

Also, Mr O’Dell spends quite a bit of his time answering threads

Thanks, I didn’t expect it to be out of beta since they were still bringing in the rest of the heroes into the game. Besides, nothing wrong with it remaining in beta, since balances and newer heroes would still need to be rigorously tested.

But I wasn’t mad. I wasn’t mad at my team’s Necro leaving. I wasn’t mad that I lost. If so, all I was mad at is how the Anet balance team is actually allowed to be the authority on balancing the game.

2 minion masters, 1 bunker warrior, 1 decap engie, and 1 engie that I didn’t even need to face. The amount of clutter, projectile animation, passive play and power creep? Champion Legionnaire and Phantom titles are now a huge joke, they’re just Walmart titles.

I’m just disappointed that such a game with great combat mechanics is allowed to disgrace itself with such a short-sighted Balance team. I do realise that the balance team has to account for all 3 formats of the game, but, right up to this point of the game? They have not done their job at all. PvE is still all zerkery, WvW is rewarded by tankiness and spam, and the filth of WvW builds is all over sPvP.

I do sincerely wish that the game gets better, and the way forward is to stop hiring 15 year olds to do your balancing. Even better, if you could break away sPvP from WvW/PvE, and actually get beta testers from the player population. But wait, so many players have become disillusioned, the number of “QQ threads” that festers this particular sub-forum about so and so builds should be a huge warning sign that the balance team doesn’t know what to do.

For god’s sake, be responsible and revert most of the changes and do miniscule changes. Take a leaf out of Dota2, a game that is still in beta stage despite being almost 1.5 decades old, and adopt the practices that IceFrog used in order to make the game it is today. Active beta testing teams (about 5 – 8 of 10 each IIRC), active engagement of the Pro Players community, having a stable map version to use in legit tournaments whilst rolling out balances for the pubs to play out and let new bugs/abuses surface for fixing.

tl;dr. Please, Anet, wake up, the sPvP community wants to help, and help can’t be accepted with a closed fist.

You’re not the first person to suggest it, and what you say definitely has some credibility to it. sPvP does need help player population, especially against the popularity of Moba games.

This would just be one step towards boosting the image of GW2 to go beyond “just an MMO”.

Of course, plenty of other issues to fix, just which one needs priority first? Going by what we have witnessed in terms of the coding and software engineering of this game? I don’t know how well Anet’s team can actually create such a function.

Too many PvE/WvW scrubs coming in, thinking they know kitten about the game, but end up being crap, nor know their rotations. Oh, don’t forget the Skyhammer farmers who decided to adorn themselves with nice titles like Ransacker or Marauder, but get taken down so easily in a 1v1.

This game’s balance is stupid, buffing PU mesmers because “mesmers are not viable in the condi meta”. Leaving Cleansing Ire Heal Signets warrior unchanged, so that warriors in general can choose to go Ranged and Melee and still outheal most classes’ normal attack damage. Necroes are coming out of their rabbit hole now because perma cc warrior damage were nerfed, and they get to stack fear/condis umpteen number of times on you.

Adding upon that, the x/30/30/x/x build with d/p could still work, but requires an even more refined gameplay to land your damage and pressure. It still has quite some time in stealth with 3 Heartseekers, but the overall might stack gain and overall time in stealth has been reduced, and with it, overall pressure and “guessing when the thief would land their backstab”.

Are they still annoying to face? Yes. Are they still something that could take you out quickly? In some ways, yes.

Crazyduck, I think you’re full of hogwash, and have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about when talking about the thief profession. You cannot describe the situation enough that a thief can do a) a backstab and b) infil return out. I think you should really look at thief gameplay, describe how the “high-level thieves” you’ve faced or watched do their stuff, tell us about their weapon set choices and possible trait lines.

At the moment, everyone else knows what they’re talking about except you. You’ve just shown yourself to be absolutely clueless about thieves, and I’m pretty sure a few of us already know what you mean by “sword #2 out”

No, because they still have stupid maps like Skyhammer and Spirit Watch in the game, a stupid meta that allows hard counters, bunker warriors that doesn’t need skill to play, and a really horrible Balance team that hasn’t been fired.

Also, software engineers that are hired without good qualifications who didn’t have the foresight (and that goes to the management team) to not separate the 3 modes of the game individually.

My favorites are the Monday morning quarterbacks. You start a match, and half-way through you’re losing and it’s obvious you aren’t going to win and some PVP “expert” will start complaining that we’re losing because we didn’t do X or Y. One time I suggested that if he had strategy ideas maybe he should suggest them before the match begins, rather than after it’s essentially over. Needless to say, he didn’t appreciate that, and I found his response amusing.

You might know your class well, but this has to got to do with team dynamics. There are far deeper nuances to the game than you might know, and it comes down to the thing called Game Sense.

Game Sense involves adapting to the situation, and information comes from reading enemy positions and what classes are where. You might have won the initial first half of the game, because the opposing team simply cannot handle a 4v4 fight at mid. They do a split push, capitalise on and punish mistakes, and splitting your team up to win the fight overall.

That being said, that comes in the form of a Team PvP perspective. What can be gathered from soloQ is that the other team chances upon members of your team who do not know how to peel, retreat, reset health and consolidate on 2 captured nodes. Instead, 1 of them dies, the other goes down a bit later, and your team at mid has to face with the power of 4. The momentum shifts and everything just snowballs from there.

And yes most meta builds are simply being played for a complete lack of alternative. I cant imagine a single ranger actually WANTING to play this brain afk build.

I think you clearly underestimate how strong MMnecroes are in 1v1s. You obviously have not seen the patch updates to MMnecroes. It’s annoying to fight such builds because it’s a mass clusterkitten of kitten that you have to go through, when your first priority is to get the bone golem down.

10 – 20 matches is barely enough for them to even enter soloQ. Ranks also don’t reflect a person’s personal skill level due to all that Skyhammer farming. Some kids think that by putting a Ransacker title or Champ Legionnaire title means that they know how to apply good rotations, help allies to peel, who to apply pressure on.

Just ask the Warrior that made a troll thread about Warriors being OP. Makes a troll video about Warriors being a brainless class to play, plays games without brain switched on anyway.

Is this going to be another one-sided hyped up rubbish about “Look at the fantastic things we are bringing to this game!” video? When will ever be REAL engagement between players and developers? Is it really SO bad to remove finishers, and AFFIRM the actions of Skyhammer farmers who go into soloQ games thinking that they are actually good?

I think the OP fails to realise that the following words are not in the Arenanet daily vernacular:

A) Fixing.
B) Balance.

The following stuff are part of the corporate DNA though:
A) Making money out of the non-revenue area of the game (removing glory, gold as a standard system, removing ranks and finishers anyone?)

B) Paying lip service with [DISCUSSION] threads, but hey, it’s lip service! (Anyone remember Countless’ video that suggests balance?)

C) Making the game so casual friendly, so long as people can leave their brains outside of the house and just pressing a few buttons to win. BART-TARNS BART-TARNS LOLOLOLOL I SO SKEELED.

Tranassa pretty much hit the nail on the spot in the first part, but I disagree with the others. I’d like if the sPvP team and Balance team actually put their foot on the ground and engaged with players, and preferably the top players at that.
Yes, there is some level of engagement, but it seems that it’s really just basic customer service, and really a matter of just answering for the sake of it.
However, soloQ STILL is not a competitive arena, it’s just slapping 5 randoms, with a poorly designed match-making system coupled with a poor population base. The icing on the cake? Very very bad balances, of which the Balance team would NEVER admit that they royally made a big screw-up of.

So much conditions easily applied in the game, encouraging spam, nerfs to condition duration stacks didn’t seem to do anything at all, nothing at all. While I am fully aware that the sPvP team and Balance team are two separate entities, and on top of that, that sPvP cannot be decoupled from the entire makeup of the game, it seems that the Anet administration is just overwhelmed with work, without foresight, and without a good leader at the helm.

I don’t want to have to ruin the hard work of Justin and the other staff who have spent their time to read the forums, but, such ill-made decisions really have to be addressed at a higher level, with as little bullkitten involved.

When Anet a) finally realises they have to separate the balance of the game into WvW vs sPvP and b) hires a proper balancing team that actually knows what they’re doing, perhaps then, we can start looking forward.

As of right now, sPvP is in a very dark and cold state, where it’s just filled by rubbish traits, rubbish balances, forcing certain classes to play very limited builds. Even more so, the difference in having Skyhammer and Spirit Watch on Solo Queue but not Team Queue? Speaks volumes by itself of what they want to be tourney viable, but encouraging cheese builds instead.

I got Spirit Watch 4 games in a row yesterday. Anet RNG is the best. They want us to give constructive criticism yet they refuse to remove it from soloQ. These are the worst possible maps to teach new players about playing the game.

A lot of credit for sPvP has already been destroyed by the Balance team, I hope the sPvP team doesn’t go down the same road as them.

I’d appreciate waiting for a better match, but I sure as hell don’t appreciate waiting for a better match only to get Skyhammer and Spirit Watch. They are god-awful maps, and since the sPvP team still wants to justify that there still is nothing wrong with those maps, they need some real soul-searching.

Don’t you realise that it takes a ridiculous amount of coding to have it removed from the rotation? But even before that happens, it probably takes 2 months of dev meetings to discuss the merits of having that map in soloQ but not in teamQ.

Yes, this is a very strongly worded post against the devs, but it does not mean that I think the PvP team hasn’t done their job. True, their current showing is really less than desired, their decision making reflects how they seem to not listen to the players, but we should give credit to the devs where it’s due.

Taking the time off your busy schedule to answer player questions is very very good, but I do genuinely think that the direction that the PvP team is misguided and playing the politically neutral ground.

Back to the topic on hand, this map deserves to stay in Hot Joins and remain there. The creator(s) of the map can be credited for making a kitten y map for Hot Joins, but not a credible map for competitive play.
