I want to go for a heal build using Shortbow and Apothecary Armor set, but I had a question about healing power.
Does healing power give a bonus to how much Signet of the Wild heals for?
Does healing power apply to how much you heal from each pulse of regeneration?
In general I guess, how effective is a healing build for Rangers anyway?
Admittedly, i’m not very good at making builds, but i’m trying to find one that’s a good mix of how I want to play. This build will be for PvE/WvW, but probably PvE more than anything.
What I want: I want to be heavy on healing and survivability through mostly +Healing Power/Signet of the Wild. I also want to put some traits into making my pet more powerful, because I want him to be the source of physical damage while I dish out conditions. I’ll most likely be using felines for this.
Well, that’s what I think sounds like fun, but i’m not sure itd work. I tested out the build in PvP but it’s hard to tell without the armor stats and other factors as to how it’s going to work in PvE.
Right now the build I just fiddled with was 0/20(I, V)/20(IV, VIII)/10(III)/20(I, VII) in HotM using 3x Dwayna Runes and 3x Afflicted Runes. Shortbow (Agony) and Axe/Warhorn(Hydromancy/Chilling Sigils).
My priority is survivability, so i’d sacrifice traits to improve my pet for traits that improve my healing. Next most important to me is making my pet powerful enough to be a problem to enemies, and the last priority is making me dish out conditions and improve condition damage.
I picked the shortbow for conditions, obviously, and I picked Axe/Warhorn because if my goal is to stay out of melee range as much as possible, chilling would be very important, as well as mobility from the warhorn. I wanted to steer away from melee weapons.
I didn’t think about what skills to use too much, definitely run Signet of the Wild/Frost Trap/Healing Spring and Rampage as One for my elite.
Pleeeeaaassseee, Arenanet! We love them. There’s so many awesome ones. They are awesome creature models that should be showcased often. WANT! =3
Does anyone know if this achievement is officially bugged? I followed at least 4 different guides for the achievement, collected all the baubles (necessary or not), destroyed the cage at the end of W1 Z1 and let the timer run down to warp me to Z2. I still haven’t gotten the achievement after doing it about 5 times.

I was completing the zone Vince. I’ll give it another go with these vids. Thanks!

This is for the World 1 achievement.

Is anyone else having problems getting this achievement? I’m doing it solo on infantile, followed multiple guides, gathered every necessary AND unnecessary bauble and i STILL haven’t gotten it.
Bug? Or are there ones i’m missing? I followed the dulfy guide and a guide posted on reddit.
This can be solo with ranger easiely. Just use longbow(1500 range) and shorbow stay near the mortar and range the runner and break aggro by running to the back.
Start with shortbow Concussion Shot >Crippling Shot >Poison Volley. Switch to longbow knock plunderer back with Point Blank Shot and finish with Rapid Fire and if you have problem with aggro use Hunter’s Shot for the stealth
The difficulty scale with more players so solo seems to be the best way of getting this done.
I did this on my ranger as well. Used Longbow and Greatsword. For my skills i only really needed Muddy Terrain. Point blank with longbow, swap to GS and immobilize, muddy terrain, and by the time i finish all that, point blank is back up. You could go the extra mile and use a pet CC like wolf fear or spider immobile.
This work’s sometimes and very class dependent. Though I agree, for the first couple of minutes you can kill the only a few feet from spawn. While bother though when they’ll run all the way to the back and run to you again. Taking all the time off the clock. I chill cripple them as much as possible both coming and going.
If you have issues with CC, just bring a friend or guildmate to make up for the lack of CC. Still avoiding the disorganization and chaos of a 5-man.
Majority, including more casual players, or people that just want the mini, are only concerned with finishing the event. And this is the method. If you want a method for a Gold completion, this isn’t the one. Pretty sure i mentioned that in my second sentence.
Just run back as far as you can and de-aggro
This is Sindiris’ Method, the method I discovered to EASILY finishing tier 4. You may not get gold rating, but it’ll get you that achievement. No more 5-man groups. This method is easily done solo.
Things you need to know:
-For the first 5 plunderers, they’ll all appear in the very back.
-For the first 6 or so plunderers NO more plunderer’s will appear as long as the one before it is still alive.
Delay the killing of the plunderers. Use all the cripples, immobilizes, chills, and other CC you have to just slow down the plunderers. Stand in the very back as usual, avoiding all contact with others. Let the plunderers get turn ins. DON’T KILL THE PLUNDERERS RIGHT AWAY. Just delay their deaths. and their turn ins by slowing them down as much as you can. Meanwhile, the clock will tick down.
By the end of my t4 solo run, i had only killed 3 plunderers and i still had the last 500 supplies left. It was VERY easy.
Enjoy ridding yourself of the frustration!
The Wintersday thread is eventually going to disappear, so i’m posting these in General.
I want to see what people discovered on their own. Post a song with tabs for the choir bell that you figured out on your own!

I’m not terribly pro at build testing. Just sort of seeing what I could come up with on my own.
An “ideal” fight would go like this: Call of the Wild for Fury, Hunter’s Shot, Quickening Zephyr, Rapid Fire. After all of this the enemy has almost 25 stacks of Vulnerability, and almost 10 stacks of Bleed. After that first bit, i pop Rampage as One when my Fury will be about gone, and the enemy will have started to fight back, giving me an edge on mobility and thus survivability.
Point Black Shot gives me a little space for a short time. Not a skill that always works for me. However, Sword and Warhorn gives me a 15 sec Swiftness for a little speed, and the Sword has it’s two evasive attacks which also apply Cripple. I picked Shrapnel Mine, the Charr racial, over Spike Trap and Muddy Terrain because the cripple has a longer duration after leaving the aoe field, and has ground targetting unlike Spike Trap when it’s not traited into, and Muddy Terrain as a visible aoe field to the enemy right off the bat, rather than being hidden. Everyone loves Rampage as One for it’s hawt 20 sec Stability. I traited into Hide in Plain Sight which ideally gives me a chance to get the jump on the enemy again, if I’ve lost the upper hand.
I slapped a Sigil of Purity onto my Sword for the bonus condition removal, since i’ll generally swap to this weapon I go into “survival mode” more or less. Signet of Renewal is a no-brainer for the removal and stun break. The Empathic Bond trait seemed amazing. If functions the same as the signet, but removes all conditions instead of just one. Shared Anguish seemed good as well.
Runes of the Nightmare x5 gives me condition damage for Bleed and duration for my important Bleeds, Cripples, and Vulnerability. The last rune just gives +toughness. I haven’t geared up for this build yet so i’m open to suggestion. I was thinking a healthy balance of + Condition dmg and Critical dmg.
I swap pets a lot depending on the situation, but generally for most situations I keep the Jaguar and Jungle Spider out. The Lynx or Snow Leopard is probably fine in WvW also, but I like the stealth for a little pet survivability. The others’ leap F2’s seem to have trouble hitting most of the time anyway. The cats main attack applies Vulnerability and another attack applies Bleed which is nice for my little Bleed applying “sub-build”. I was thinking of some pets with more vitality or toughness like a bear, since my pet often pulls conditions from me.
I got a chance to test it in WvW. I 1v1’d a Thief and did pretty well. Stuns hardly affected me at the beginning of the fight and I didn’t have to pop my signet. The Cripple from my Shrapnel Mine had a mighty nice duration, keeping him from me. After he stealthed the first time to get the jump on me again, I popped Rampage and avoided the next set of stuns. Killed him with 50% health after healing. Worked pretty well!
That’s about it. Constructive criticism and advice is welcome!
So I did a lot of forum reading and here’s my short and sweet list of things people want done with the pets. Feel free to add yours if you have another.
-More intelligent AI
-Control over all abilities
-Pets remain stowed unless taken back out
-Stand closer to the ranger instead of 10 feet ahead of them =/
-Better pathing while following the ranger
-More in-depth pet customization
-The concept of “rare” or “unique” pets
-F2 abilities activate more fluidly and quickly
-Want to feel a connection with the pet
I think that covers them. Add a change you want if i missed any. Try to be short and sweet! It’s not a debate, it’s just a list.
In some situations, like during the Giganticus fight in Arah, I want to switch my pets at my own leisure. During that fight I use 2 bears. I don’t use them to attack, they just stay passive near me. Their only purpose during that fight is to res fallen allies with SnR. If one bear dies, i don’t want to swap to the next until i want to use SnR. That way he has full health.
In a situation where you want your pet to keep attacking the enemy, say, to slow him down so you can escape, your pet would just dodge away from the target and then have to pursue it again, and it would interrupt the f2 if you were trying to use it.
If you call your pet back to you, it’ll get out of the aoe. Simple as that.
