When I played during BWE3, oh man was it fun. Could stack that AF extremely fast and use it when I needed, could heal with the best of them, and overall had more fun than I’d had in a long time.

Now AF seems to take forever to get up to where you can use it, it only lasts 15 seconds and it goes away the instant you’re out of combat. Personally, I hate the latter the most… Why should it behave like adrenaline when it was 100x more fun and practical when it behaved like the Necro’s Life Force.

With how long it takes to build up and a cooldown after you’re done, it feels so risky to use your astral form because if you need it again anytime in the near future, you’re SOL. Apparently it takes about 70 seconds of auto attacking with the shortbow to fill up the bar… which is just surprisingly ridiculous. That’s over a minute of dancing around and attacking before you can actually use the main feature of your spec for a fraction of that.

I thought there was a saying with this game that we weren’t supposed to end up spending a lot of time preparing to have fun, but we were supposed to spend a lot of time having fun – or something like that. Perhaps I’m wrong and that was a different game, I don’t remember, but it sure doesn’t apply to Druid in its current state.

You spend the vast majority of any find building up your astral form so you can use it for a fraction of the amount of time and while using it, several of the skills are next to useless because you can’t land them on allies that are running and dodging all over the place. So overall, you spend 75% of a fight preparing to use your AF and when you finally get to use it, it’s over before you’ve really made any sort of impact. Then it’s just back to building again.

Disclaimer: this rant pertains to a style of play that I enjoy most, which is healing… If you’re like me and you want to heal and support, and not be just another dps class, you’ll probably agree with this. Healing is my passion in games and it’s been missing from GW2 for too long. Now we finally have it and it was amazing at first, but now it’s just an after-image of its former glory.

I want BWE3 Druid back so I can have fun again on the Druid.

*I like the addion of a reticle. But I don’t like the design of it. For me it should be more semi-transparent.

*Whats that thing above the skills?

The thing above the skills, from the top down, is your endurance bar, your health bar, and your initiative count

The game have an UI. Use it or left IMO.
A modified UI can give some advantage… Skills positions, colours, Bars positions… A user with the default UI play the whole game and the user with the modified UI play the same game with ( maybe) some advantage ( More free space in the screen for example).
Its true that the default UI can be better but if you play pvp with a modified UI you maybe can have more free space in the screen and see the player that with the default UI you cant see it.

Please, The read the word MAYBE before flame me.

P.S: I play a lot other games where addons are “must be” and sincerely, they are a game killer. For example: You need X addon/mod for be better in PVP bcoz with the addon/mod you have more data about ( put here anything like agro, rage, HP, mana, etc, etc..)

I agree with you at some points, that there needs to be a line drawn in the sand. However, the line doesn’t need to be a straight one. The combat mode addon is not IMHO giving any unfair advantage. Also, granting the ability to change the UI is in no way an advantage because everyone should be able to do it. In GW1, this was built right in the game, you could change the appearance any way you wanted. When everyone has equal ability to change the UI for instance, there is no advantage granted.

The problem with your argument of having more free space is that it is inherently in the game and is made available by buying a larger monitor. By extension, you could even say that this is pay to win because you throw down more money, get a larger monitor or two and all of a sudden you have a significantly increased FOV and amount of free space on your screen.

Basically, my counter argument to you is that the unfair advantages you listed off are already present in the game, and this addon will not be a “must have” because it simply changes the style of gameplay. I do not believe it will create some ridiculous advantage for anyone, besides, most people want to use it for PvE just to enjoy the game more – just like we all wanted (and still do want) increased FoV… We just want to take our enjoyment of the game to the next level.

So I’m wondering if the night sky in this game is based off the real night sky or if it’s drawn completely from scratch. I’m just curious if I could find actual constellations in certain areas, such as on the boat south of Port Waypoint in Rata Sum where the night sky is clear.

My only complaint for the longbow is the same as when I play hammer warrior/guardian. The attack speed is just too slow. It’s almost painful to watch as I’m twisting and contorting my body wishing I could just fire a little faster. Absolutely the #1 turn off for the longbow is the absurdly terrible cast time.

WvW New Ranger / Share your builds/ideas !!!

zetherin.8372

Don’t even bother. There is nothing you can do in WvW.

1. Your damage is a joke and your shots get evaded 90% of the time by people simply circling you.

2. Your pet is a moron and can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Most classes can outrun the pet or kill it very easy.

3. You are useless while attacking a keep. BECAUSE YOU CANT kittenING SHOOT ARROWS UP. While engineer happily throws grenades up.

4. You are useless in defense because as soon as you stand near the edge some thief pulls you down, standing further back you won’t be able to hit anything because you get Obstructed.

5. Your pet is completely useless in defending keeps. ZERO. NOTHING.

6. You get 2 shot by almost every other class. Sometimes even one shot and that;s wearing full toughness set because medium armour is shiat

I almost forgot.

7. You can’t get away or catch up to any other class, they either have more movement speed, are invisible 90% of the time or teleport with skills that have barely any cooldowns compared to our horn which is our ONLY kittenING movement speed.

8. Not enough stun/lock breakers, we have 1, yeah whooping one. We don’t have any stuns either, just one that lasts for 1sec, hahaha, kitten you anet.

1. Won’t say anything about damage, but the patch did a fair bit to alleviate missing.
2. Pets hitting moving targets, especially combined with the Signet of the Hunt buff helped a bit. I will admit they still die easily though.
3. Too bad grenade damage got nerfed 30%.
4. I’m pretty sure what you’re saying is true for everyone standing on the edge of a keep.
5. You can try using the “Guard” shout to teleport your pet to the ground for some shenanigans every 24-30s. I have no real counter to this one though.
6. From reading you’re complaint, this isn’t even a Ranger specific problem, but an Adventurer class problem that Thieves, when out of stealth, and Engineers would have to deal with as well.
7. Post patch, everyone is pretty much the same speed now w/o using perma swiftness builds.
8. I completely agree on this one though. Besides Signet of Renewal and Lightning reflexes we can’t escape stuns. And then those to breaks don’t remove immobilize like some of the other profession’s skills. I will disagree partially about the stuns though. We have 2 that are on moderately popular weapons at the moment, Greatsword and Shortbow. Combined with the Moment of Clarity buff, we can now have 1.5*2=3s of stun if we needed it.

In your #6, you forgot that ele’s are crazy squishy as well. And for #8, the shortbow stun is a conditional stun. If you’re fighting someone and they’re attacking you back, you probably can’t get behind them or to the side of them very easily.

When Targeting Ally, Pets Should...

Yeah, I feel like if there was one single thing that could be fixed and would cure most of the ranger’s problems.. it’s the pet. And I think that this is a good first step in that process.

Pets: WoW vs GW2

I want to be able to tell my pet to go to an ally so I can use F2 and have it affect them rather than having to chase them down myself because my pet can either be on the frontline or right next to me and that’s it.

When Targeting Ally, Pets Should...

in Ranger

Posted by: zetherin.8372

zetherin.8372

…move to them when you press F1.

I think this would be a really cool feature that would really open a dynamic that rangers should have. Some pets have a good F2 ability, but it only affects people within earshot. So someone has to stand next to me so I pull my pet back to use F2, or I send my pet in to attack and my ally has to be on the front line. If they’re kiting an enemy because they’re a squishy like an elementalist or something, then they’re kitten out-a-luck.

When I thought of this, I was doing that mini-dungeon in The Grove and was using my fern hound. My party had 2 ele’s in it and people were sprinting all over the place. I had to chase people down in order to get them the regen boon from my hound’s ability, and it was very inconvenient and awkward. I think it would just be a nice thing to be able to have a little more control over my pet so I can get him to go where I need him to be when he needs to be there.

What do you guys think?

I miss going to a skill trainer and actually scrolling threw a hundred different skills and picking and choosing what I liked.

It would be nice if there were more ways to make builds different rather than every weapon of the same type giving the exact same skills. Not to mention the healing and elite skills are only used under specific conditions. That really only gives us 3 skills (7-9) to actually choose, and the problem with those is they all have like 45-60 second cooldown.

How I Originally Thought Weapon Skills Worked

zetherin.8372

I, like so many others here, was also an avid GW1 player. I absolutely loved playing monk. My favorite thing in the game was using all the skills to come up with unique builds. I’m not going to continue to run through this reminiscent rambling and instead go into a different one to explain my point.

When I first heard about the skills being dependent on the weapon (way way way long ago), I did not like the idea very much. I didn’t like the idea of every single ranger in the game using a longbow to have the exact same 1-5 skills, or every single elementalist in the game using staves to have the exact same 1-5 skills for each attunement. I thought that there was no way it could be that simple because how could the game shift from GW1’s amazing build creation to something where the builds are mostly pre-made and you just get to add the icing.

The conclusion I came to (again way way way long ago) was that there would be different types of staves. An Orrian staff vs an Ornate staff vs a Golden Wing Staff vs Ceremonial Staff and so on. And each one of those staves would have a different set of 5 skills in a different order. I thought this was how we were going to maintain the incredible ability to create extremely different and unique builds, but in a different way.

Thus is my suggestion: In a massive update in the future, change the way weapons work. Give us back those 500 skills we had per profession via the different types of the same weapon. That way we can go find the specific weapon we want to create that wide variety of builds.

The tooltip says it should deal “Damage(15x): 120”

That means 15 hits doesn’t it? But whenever I do it, it only ever hits 6-7 times.

It always does one of the following:

event 1: hit-hit>pause<hit-hit>pause<hit-hit>end

or

event 2: hit-hit-hit>pause<hit-hit>pause<hit-hit>end

During the pauses my asuran is just sorta spinning there not doing anything and no dmg being dealt until the next wave of hits. Is this working as it should or is it bugged?

If it is acting as it should, then shouldn’t the tooltip say 6x or 7x: 120?

Ok so previously we were able to Rez our pets if they died instea of for in us to switch giving us an option to get our other 50% or so of our damage

So I’m going to venture a guess and say that you think pets are 50% of the dps done by rangers and when the pet dies, the ranger is super weak??

I don’t agree with that statement but I do agree that the timer seems really long. But it shouldn’t be reduced if the pet dies.

Edit I think the pet should be buffed in PvE but nothing should change in PvP

I noticed that as well but I actually prefer to have it as it is because of the trait that gives you swiftness every time you equip. a. kit. It applies to this re-equipping of the kit that you already have so it’ll keep giving you that swiftness. Also, the med kit is the one with the #5 swiftness skill so it flows nicely.

Anyway, you can stow them by pressing the ‘~’ key to the left of 1 – same as weapon swap.

Render Sampling Broken?

So the Render Sampling option seems to be broken for me. It works fine if I choose Subsample or Supersample but native will not work. The problem with native is that it creates this black/white screen and it doesn’t fix itself after any amount of time.

This creates an unfortunate dilemma for me. Either pick Subsample and play the game with no lag but suffer with blurry textures and lose some of the game’s aesthetic beauty, or go with Supersample but have a very noticeable lag.

I have attached an image of what my game looks like on Native, but on either of the other two it works fine.

Can We Replace Dynamic Events In The Dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zetherin.8372

zetherin.8372

I don’t know how many other people have a similar situation, but I find myself scrambling every day to try to find those dynamic events to finish it. And, like so many other days, today I got up to 98% complete and then lose it because the stupid reset is literally smack in the middle of my play time – by the way, I live in Ohio so it resets at 7pm. I get home at ~5pm and only have roughly 3 hours to play for the entire night, during the week. I can complete everything else pretty quickly and easily but DE’s seem to hide from me when they matter most. I’ve only actually been able to complete 2 dailies since the karma jugs were introduced, and not many before that.

Another question, since this is very unlikely to actually change: Does anything else count as an event, like say a skill point? A couple of days ago I did a skill point and I could have sworn that it counted towards it. Mostly because when you trigger a skill point where you have to fight something, it has the same appearance as a DE. However, today when scrambling to complete it, I did several skill points and none of them counted towards it.

Is anyone else having a lot of difficulty getting the dailies done?

Great news, I seem to have fixed it by taking Aeri’s advice.

If anyone else has this problem, mine fixed itself when i pressed f11 and switched the “Render Sampling” from “Supersample” to “Subsample”. As soon as I made that switch, the screen flashed and all the darkness went away. I switched it back to “Supersample” and it still worked. I tried to stress it, loading different areas, logging into different chararcters, completely restarting and it all seems to work fine now, thanks!

This started on Oct. 31 with the release of act IV so I assumed it was just part of it. It also only occurred in L.A. which led me to believe that it was part of MKT’s DE. Now, after that’s over, the thing persists. Even worse, it happens anywhere I go.

As you can imagine, it’s difficult playing this game blindfolded XD.

Anyway, what happens is it starts off black whenever I load into an area and then that white stuff comes in from the sides and corners of the screen until it consumes everything but the GUI.

If anyone knows what’s causing it or how to make it stop, I beg of you to share you knowledge I’m not even mad because this game is so amazing and I probably should take a break once in a while.

Thanks

Is There More To Owl's Abbattoir?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As for story:

Owl is one of the lesser spirits of norn. When Jormag awoke, Owl was one of the four spirits who stayed behind to fight the Elder Dragon in order to give the norn time during the norn exodus to the south. She is revered with great sorrow among the norn as the last Havroun of Owl confirmed the death of Owl. Despite its death, Owl shamans and other norn still revere her. She has a shrine dedicated to her at Lost Spirits’s Hallow in Hoelbrak, as well as the now-wrecked Owl Lodge in Snowden Drifts.

Owl represents family and hearth, giving teachings of taking care of one’s children as well as being a keen hunter. Many of Owl’s teachings can be found in Damaged Writings within the Owl Lodge.

Question is: Is there more to it? It just seems to dead end at the top, but it’s so nice and obviously intentional. Why would they go through the work of putting in such a cool platformer but not give any sort of indication for completing it?

Energy denial was not fun. Sure, it might have been fun for the person doing the denying, but do you know how much fun it is to have 0 energy for minutes at a time? You had to do silly things like have low energy sets so you could “bank” energy, then quickly swap to the higher energy set to get a spell or two off before going back into hiding.

It was not fun.

I don’t miss energy at all.

I agree, energy denial was not fun. However, after playing this game of almost 2 months, I am starting to miss the energy a bit. Right now, when fighting bosses, everybody ends up just spamming every ability they have as soon as it comes off cooldown because there’s no draw back and because bosses have so much health, it takes an hour to kill one.

But I really do miss my monk >.< even though I know I won’t be getting it back.

Why do bosses have so much health?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zetherin.8372

zetherin.8372

One of my friends and I were having a discussion about what we liked and didn’t like about the game. He was basically saying that he’s gonna take a break, while I was still loving it. However, there’s one thing I couldn’t help but agree with and that is that the enemies, especially bosses have way way way too much health.

The one thing I just can’t stand in this game is that the dungeons are not hard because of difficulty, but are hard because of the amount of endurance it requires to complete one. I try to go through a dungeon, but they all seem to take about 5 hours with PUGs.

I’m sure nobody needs an example but here’s one anyway: I’m running through SE with a PUG and we make it all the way to Kudu in about an hour. That was pretty sweet, got some more lore about Destiny’s Edge and I love lore, and things were going great. But then when it came time to fight him, at every 25% health decrement, he’d summon a golem. The first golem took about 25 minutes to kill.. the second one took 3x as long because I was the only one in the group that didn’t die every 10 seconds to his insane damage. The third one rolled around and consumed about 90 minutes because it reset 3 times. That’s an hour and a half for just this bosses spawn…

All that effort and my night was gone. A great many different shades of anger were boiling inside of me as I’d just spent like 4 hours doing a dungeon that we ended up having to abandon because of time constraints. It seems like the only problem is that the bosses have about 10 trillion ****ing health (I might be underestimating by a few trillion – haven’t really done the math). You know what else is funny, these bosses weren’t even legendary or whatever the purple outline of their portrait means. They were only champions.

The story is awesome, and I love this game so much, but I don’t know how I can do any of these dungeons when they take this outrageously long. I also love the idea of challenging gameplay but as previously mentioned this is not challenging because of difficulty. I don’t know how many avid video gamers are like me and have back pains from playing for extended periods of time, but this certainly is agonizingly painful by the time I finally finish it. Maybe I just suck or the PUGs I play with just suck.. idk.. but what I know is that I shouldn’t have to devote an entire night to doing just one dungeon.

in Elementalist

zetherin.8372

You can cast two rounds of ice shards during the recharge period of Shatterstone.

Shatterstone is not about doing damage, it’s about stacking Vulnerability, which increases the damage the target takes from subsequent attacks. The value in using Shatterstone is to have partymembers or teammates wail on the target while you spam Shatterstone to stack its vulnerability sky-high so that it takes a ton of extra damage.

I see, thanks for the answer. I guess I was just hoping that it wasn’t meant to prevent you from doing anything during the whole 2 seconds that it’s casting because in a fight, 2 seconds feels like an eternity.

I mainlined monk in GW1 and like to think I was really good at it. (I Heal And Deal was my monk :P )

I must say that I honestly do really miss playing monk. But at the same time, adding a monk to this game would cause a lot of problems I think.

The main problem is that it would turn into a requirement to have a monk in every party for dungeon, spvp, and maybe even wvw. And that is exactly why anet set the game up this way – to avoid required classes in parties.

So as much as I do miss my monk, I would actually vote against adding them to this game. (You have no idea how hard it is to say this but I feel this is the wisest path)

I assume that means that if I put down a lava font, it stays longer. Does that mean that it will deal more damage because it’s there longer or is this trait specifically only for cross-profession combos, so people have extra time to give themselves fire shields or shoot flaming arrows.

Minor Mesmer Bug

When using the staff, the #1 skill has had a change where it no longer follows the contours of the ground but after it hits once, the rebound does follow the contours of the ground. Also the iWarlock’s attack follows the contours of the ground which seems to have an effect when fighting an enemy that’s across a ravine or ditch of some kind. Example would be the boss in AC, Nente or something who stands on a pillar in the middle of no where.

Why all the complaints against Northern Shiverpeaks!?

I heard people were complaining that people on NS were allegedly logging out to avoid dying. I never saw this happen and I really doubt it because why would it be localized to just the Northern Shiverpeaks server?

The other point would be that people on NS fought through the night, way into the morning and then some. I don’t know why you can really complain about this because it’s supposed to be 24/7 battling for 2 week periods.. but whatever.

The Way I See The Classes

TL:DR Mesmers are not OP or UP. They fix exactly into their niche. They’re meant to be duelists. Duelists don’t fight wave after wave after wave of monsters – they fight people. They 1v1 extremely effectively. This is why they’re weaker in PvE. But they’re still very strong in PvE and can run through everything when you adapt to the situation.

I apologize for my massive wall which contains a lot of reiterated themes but this is so because it is somewhat difficult to describe. I hope I did an effective job at doing so.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I see people saying mesmers are OP/UP/too hard/whatever else. The main point I see is people are complaining that Mesmers are too strong PvP and too weak PvE.
Mesmer -> I can see where people are coming from with their complaints. However, the way I see it is that the Mesmer is similar to the Elementalist in that it is much more difficult to play than the other classes. The general consensus seems to be that Mesmers are too strong in PvP and not strong enough in PvE. Thing is… it makes sense that it is this way. Mesmers are supposed to be THE duelist profession. Thieves are a spike-out class but not a duelist.
Duelists engage in combat, usually 1v1, and can maintain themselves for a good long while and deal significant damage while not taking very much.
I don’t know about anyone else but I play a lot of League of Legends. Mesmers remind me a lot of Fiora, a duelist champion. She has great sustain, an ability that blocks the next incoming attack, and a lot of sustain damage. It makes sense that she’s really good at fighting other champs. She is not very good at jungling though. Mesmers aren’t so good at it either and it just makes sense. Mesmers are meant to duel people by messing with their heads. You’re supposed to attack the wrong clone while the real Mesmer deals significant damage to you. You can’t do that to a computer that knows which one is real and which one isn’t. The computer isn’t another player, and isn’t really gonna duel you unless you’re fighting a vet or champ 1v1.
Speaking of League of Legends, if I had to associate each class with a champ they would be as follows:
Warrior -> Darius/Garen/Lee Sin/Mantheon/Udyr. Get in, tank some dmg, walk away with a kill. Notice, these are good at killing champs and jungling.
Guardian -> Taric/Volibear/Shen/Mao/Galio/Alistar. Can kill you, but are tankier, more about outlasting you than getting in a murdering you quickly. Notice, also good at killing champs and jungling.
Thief -> Akali/Talon/Poppy/Rengar/Shaco. Designed to kill you quickly and are extra squishy in comparison to others. Notice, great for assassinating champs and generally good for jungling.
Ranger -> Jayce/Riven. Mostly Jayce but I wanted more than 1 example. Jayce obviously because he is the epitome of “jack of all trades.” Ranged when he wants with loads of damage, vs melee when he wants. Notice, good for everything as well. This example isn’t the best because ranger’s probably the most difficult to place, but rangers are definitely great for PvE and PvP.
Necro -> Swain/Yorick/Brand/Cassiopeia. Designed to be very high damage and not super tanky but still able to hold their own. Notice, also great for both PvP and PvE.
Engineer -> The obvious Heimerdinger. Can deal lots of up front damage or can set up devices to do the dirty work for him. Notice, great for whatever he wants to do.
Elementalist -> Annie/Anivia/Zyra/Ziggs/Fizz/etc.. Lots of damage output and not very tanky. Take Fizz for instance – very hard to play without getting completely rolled. Notice, great for PvE, especially with a bunch allies to group enemies for you, but also good for PvP because of the assassin-like qualities of the daggers.
Mesmer -> Fiora/Jax/LeBlanc/Syndra. Relative to Fiora and Syndra, much more difficult to play. Timing Fiora’s riposte to effectively protect yourself while damaging the enemy.
The overall point is:=:=:=:=:=:=:=:> Mesmers are hard. They’re more of an assassin type than an Elementalist type. As a Mesmer, you have to work harder in combat, but the rewards exceed that of the Elementalist.
Mesmers are the rangers of magic. Rangers run around with pretty much any weapon they choose. Mesmers are similar because Mesmers can apply boons to allies, remove conditions from allies, teleport, create portals for allies, invert enemy ranged attacks, cloak, cloak allies, spam conditions, evade nearly all damage temporarily, morph an enemy for 10 seconds, summon allies to tank for you, use very long range, use melee.. am I missing anything?
