I just hope there’s more concern for serious and adult storytelling. Her Disney background is leaving me rather skeptical.
In my opinion, Disney stories, while they are addressed or presented in a manner that can be approached by the mind of a child, actually present core concepts that are not childish at all, as they deal with eternal themes that cross ages, cultures, and languages. I find Leah’s background to be impressive on many levels, and I have complete confidence that the story of Guild Wars 2 will continue to be presented in a manner that focuses upon mature players. (I don’t speak for Leah, I’m just stating my opinion as a team member and a player.
)
Thanks for sharing this, Belenwyn.
And yes, iC, you’re correct. We’re going to see if they will link to the GW2 webpage, instead.
He can join the game. It’s just an automatic -3 (loss) for him.
-3 to -1. Depending on their odds of victory.
Have you talked to him? He’ll throw down the smoke after you check in with him.
Hey all,
Evan Lesh and I will be talking about the upcoming December 2 PvP changes during Ready Up today at 12PM PST (2 1/2 hours from this post). Yes, I know it’s Wednesday and not Friday, but it’s Thanksgiving week here in the US.

The real abuse could be done in the following way:
1) get your mmr really low before ladder season start by intentional losses or whatever
2) once the season start play one game to win, then one game to lose with 400-499 points and so on
3) become #1 in ladder
Glicko2 will up your volatility if you do this, causing your MMR to more rise quickly. It may even overshoot and place you higher than you should be.
In other words, you can’t do it for long, and you may suffer later.
If it does become an issue, we can just disable off season MMR updates.
Ya think I found my MMR sweetspot?
Redacting your screenshots is good practice from a privacy standpoint, but it makes it a lot harder to confirm and diagnose your matchmaking issue.
Speculating, and assuming this is solo arena from the RP reward, it looks like you were hit by the critical flaw in the current matchmaking.
The current matchmaking was designed for tournaments, not one off games, so it works by forming teams and then matches them against other teams. Jumper X and Sushijr’s team likely had a high MMR forcing them to wait in the queue for a longer amount of time. This kicked in the fail-safes that slowly widened the range of rosters we tried matched against them. Even worse, if there were no other high MMR players, their team would be filled with lower MMR players, lowering their mean MMR, dropping the range even further. Your team was the first that fit the now expanded (and possibly lower) search range. Since it was solo arena, and assuming this sshot is after the change, it tried to shuffle the players between the teams. Unfortunately, no matter how you shuffle that deck, one team will always get 3 players from the higher team. Often that doesn’t matter, but for high MMR teams that have been waiting, it can matter a lot. If the sshot is from before that change, you were just SoL.
Lucky for us all, after Dec 2nd, we’ll be using the new servers and matchmaking which doesn’t work like this at all. I can’t begin to say how happy this makes me. Seeing so many having a hard time because of MM has been a driving force over the last year.
Also, lucky for me, after Dec 2nd, I’ll have much better tools that will let me see your match history, and a lot more, so I can stop speculating and start knowing.
…
What about multiple people getting dishonor in a single match?
Do we cycle through? Do we show all at once? Do we extend the countdown? A lot of people leave the match asap as well, I’m worried that can make exploiting easier by removing the number of voices. :/
I liked the idea of an accumulating disconnection timer. Doesn’t matter how many times you disconnect, if the total time is >= N you get dishonor. You could even do it in stages, or several iterations… e.g. you could get a single stack every 15s, etc.. The deserter loss could even be split off to a different N amount.
The biggest obstacle is messing this to players in a way that’s clear.
(edited by Justin ODell.9517)
Why would someone do this? This would be pretty trivial for the servers to detect.
Please report anyone trying to sell wins.
(edited by Justin ODell.9517)
How about if we make it up to your teammates?
- If you disconnect, you will get Dishonor.
- However, at the end of the match, your teammates get a popup box that allows them to vote to end your Dishonor instantly, if the majority choose to do so.—> At the very least, you’re dishonoured until the match ends. So there’s no time saved by quitting under any circumstance.
—> You’re playing with friends. They know that you wouldn’t abandon them deliberately. They want you back in their party and ready to fight the next match, so they vote to end your dishonor.
—> You’re playing with randoms. However, you manage to log back in and play well enough that they forgive you for DC’ing. They vote for you.
—> You’re playing with a bad net connection. You find a group of nice people and explain your situation to them, and PVP with them. They vote for you.
—> You’re a jerk and people hate you. You DC, possibly deliberately, possibly accidentally. Your teammates feel you deserve it, so they don’t vote for you. Commence abusive PMs.
So I think letting the teammates decide is a good thing. They are they ones best placed to decide whether your DC has ruined their game or not.
i think this will be a good compromise?
justin, please take a look? O_O
I’ll pass it along, but it looks potentially exploitable to me…. not necessarily with what we currently have, but with what others have been suggesting for other issues.
Personally, I’d really like to see an honor system. Have high honor, maybe we’re more lenient with certain punishments. Everyone hate you? Enjoy your 3 month ban for queue dodging. OK, maybe that’s a bit absurd. Plus, ever time someone got Skyhammer, my account would get another batch of demerits. :P
I just wanted to pop here and add that if dishonor for dc becomes a problem like many fear, we can simply reduce or disable that dishonor penalty until the feature gets patched.
This is something new the servers are able to do now… yay! :P
(edited by Justin ODell.9517)
Winning always awards at least one point. Losers will follow the regular ladder point rules.
The team that wins falls into the 500+ category. I am not sure if the losing team gets points based on their score or score ratio to the winning team. That would be a question for Justin.
Thanks for the bug report, Goliath. I was able to find the bug and fix it straight away. Look forward to hearing the glorious of gutturals of both male and female centaurs in a forthcoming release. And good ear, they indeed use the same source as jotun.

Hello, I have requested for an account restoration. Its the second time im being hacked. I have retrieved my account back with the help of the support 4 days ago. I haven’t been on the game since 1 month before my first hack. I would like to come back but all my items are salvaged/deleted.
This is being looked at right now.
This is a very helpful post, Lishtenbird. Naturally, given the pros and cons of any subject is difficult; in fact it may be impossible given that of 1,000 forum members, 994.2 have different opinions on the same subject.
Nonetheless, I think you’ve made a great start, and I commend you both for your energy and for the thoughtfulness that prompted you to start this thread.
Those who feel differently about a specific area of player interest are welcome to present their thoughts in this thread. But the objective would be — in my mind’s eye at least — to be objective, to be as neutral and unbiased as possible.
The dev team can derive the most benefit from this thread (and from pretty much any compilation thread) when they can review a calm, concise, equal-minded presentation of the opinions of our players.
Thank you again!
skullmount — I am not sure, with the visual bug, which Collections people may think they have been working on, even while the Collections weren’t live.
I think we need to wait and see as these are rolled out. Not all will be coming in the immediate future, because a couple of them need additional design work and testing, but a couple are coming pretty soon, as I mentioned.
As for your bags, congrats on getting a head start! A few bags of bags sounds… impressive.
You make a good point, OtakuModeEngage. I was seeing the “glass half full” but there’s definitely a drawback. I would suggest an in-game bug report on this, as I know they are being monitored.
if we speak about bug
Treasure Hunter -> Royal Signet of Doric infused don’t work.
As mentioned above:
Please report issues and bugs in the game. I cannot tell you how much an in-game report helps us, because that kind of report provides a lot of back-end information that makes it possible to replicate the bug, where posting on a forum does not give the devs the same level of detail.
If you cannot report in the game, please post on the Bugs Forum with as many details as you can provide. If you have done so, thank you. And here’s a tip: It’s best to have separate threads for bugs, and not tag new bug reports on a thread about a different issue. Thanks for understanding.
Hey there. Just wanted to point out there’s a pre-Black Friday sale going on now.
Personal Story in the daily today. Yup, can’t finish can’t finish Chpt 6. A light in the darkness. Oh well.
Got disconnected from the server. On relogging, the PS completed. Who knows why.
Well, that’s odd! Perhaps an early Wintersday gift from Dwayna?
I don’t make light of the issue, believe me, nor of the concerns about the situation. But I can’t help but think it’s quite nice that a work-around took place that allowed you to get the daily credit.
After consultation with several team members, here’s a little information about the four collections that forum members asked about:
There were issues with each of the collections that prevented their roll-out in September. In short, they were not complete-able at that time. However, due to a bug, some players were able to see the collections as if they were active. It seems that the visibility bug is fixed, and that players would not see the collections now. The important thing to know is that the collections are not currently available on Live but that they are coming! (A couple of them are coming pretty soon, in fact.)
Apologies for the confusion, and if you have been working on the collections, of if you believe you’ve been working on a collection that is, in fact, not yet live, you won’t lose progress when they are rolled out in final form.

Just letting you know I’m still reading. =)
There are several threads on the subject of “broken” or non-functional collections. I know of four that players are asking about right now:
Whilst you’re at it, the infused version of Royal Signet of Doric isn’t counting towards the Treasure Hunter achievement. I can’t imagine that’s actually intended, as that would be silly.
It’s going to get difficult if we have disparate issues posted in the same thread. I wonder, first: Have you reported in the game? In case that’s not a clear process, here’s a handy image. (Go to the upper left first (notice my discrete red arrow
) and then type out the report on the pop-up.)

I’m actively trying to find out about these, because there is some conflicting information and the one image I’ve seen just looks bizarre!
I will post when we have some details to provide. I don’t think it’ll be too long to get that info; I’m more than halfway there. I will post here.
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
Ok, tidying done. If anyone got a “your post was removed” note, there’s no harm and no foul, I just wanted to get all the good stuff at the top. That’s the initial post and contributions by Mireles Lore and timmyf.
Y’all are free to comment below on the topic at hand.
This is really solid advice, and nicely presented too.
I’ll make it a sticky. Also, and I’m sure you’ll agree with me, I will remove the bump posts to keep things tidy.

Ok, talked it over with the moderator team and because the last few pages have been pretty valueless (“100 pages!” and so forth) and because no one will read a 100-page thread, we are going to lock this thread and start a new one.
Please see Part 2 to add posts of value and meaning.
This thread is for general discussion of dungeons. Part 1 can be found here.

Update:
We’ve identified the issue and the fix will be implemented with an upcoming release. Once the fix has been confirmed to be working, I will update this thread again to let everyone know. We will be sending one of these Golem Bankers to each account that was affected by the bug shortly thereafter.
There are words or combinations of words that could potentially mean something offensive to another culture or nation, some of which may be slang that is not easily discovered through a search engine. Here’s the core bit from the Naming Policy as a refresher:
We do not permit names that:
Have offensive racial, ethnic, national, or cultural connotations
Include hate speech or bigoted slurs
Reference sexual acts or real life violence
Are pornographic
Make inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions
Reference illegal drugs or activities
Reference religious or historical figures
Reference real-life people
Reference names of copyrighted or trademarked characters, materials, or products
Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules
While we realize a lot of names may be created without malign intentions, perception is what matters in the long run. For this particular case, it appears that a combination of strung letters in the name “Gubby Huggles” is what’s triggering the filter.
The naming filter is a collection of words, slang, letter combinations, etc. across many, many languages that have been collected since Guild Wars launched in 2005; as such, the Support Team cannot simply narrow down which specific language a string of particular letters may trigger the filter, especially since direct access to the naming filter is limited to a few individuals.
As a last point, to clarify, if a name is not allowed by the naming filter and the name has never existed in the past, we cannot simply “override” it with a button to allow it to exist. If the name was previously censored and it was decided that the name was not in violation of the Naming Policy, a GM can then allow the name back into the game.
As this reply more than covers the initial inquiry for this thread and recent replies have shown this topic to be railing off towards the deep end so to speak, I’m closing it now.
we’re approaching our 100th page. just a reminder to you all, gaile may come in any moment now and lock it + create another fresh thread with a link back to this one.
Tom I don’t know if you’re serious or not, but we don’t normally lock threads and fire up new ones unless the page start having serious load issues. I haven’t seen that in this thread, so I’m thinking we’re fine for now.
Of course, posting about 100 pages without content is likely to catch a mod’s eye because it’d be nice to have real content instead of bumps and number counts.
Hey Gaile, any follow up on those threads that Regina asked for a couple of months back? Our suggestions on how to fix dungeons? I PM’d her, but since I haven’t seen her posting in a month, I’m assuming she’s no longer with the company.
I don’t know the status of those, sorry. (Wasn’t involved at all.) I can ask Regina, but she’s out this week on holiday, so it’ll be a bit before she could update.
It’d be nice to have actual answer instead of “we’re looking into it” and " I’m asking whoever". Not everyone has what they want, it seems.
Sorry, based on the above, it’s the best I can do.

Thereis a dedicated topic in the BLTC Forum, where you are encouraged to post what things you like to see in the gem store. I doubt that they will see this topic.
Yes, please do post this in the BLTC Sub-forum. That suggestion thread is great, or if you post separately, please use[Suggestion] at the topic starter — it does tend to catch the eye.
[[I agree, btw. I was thinking last night how beautiful that outfit is!]]

Please note: Because we have a safe and secure in-game system for trades, we will not support advertising of this guild on the forums. This is covered in our UA and/or Forum CoC, and will be enforced for the protection of our community.
Thanks for understanding.
Edit for clarity: The post above is not intended to suggest that the OP was advertising in creating the topic. However, the question has been answered and further discussion could be construed as promotion, which is against forum rules. Therefore, the thread has been closed.

Thanks for the report. This has been fixed internally and will be released sometime in the future.
I find it a bit premature to claim it was not enough before it is actually over.
Thank you.
We can talk when it’s reasonable to talk: Later.
All I see is a partial RNG voting system on top of another weighted RNG system that is a solution to an atypical conquest map. Also, Dishonor makes no sense the way I read it. If a player get’s disconnected that player cannot return to the match until the dishonor is up which guarantees every 4v5 to remain a 4v5 with no option to resign the match. Honestly, just allow the d/c player to reenter the match within a grace period. Ready Button that brings a bank and whatever was else gets an honorable mention.
I think the person who disconnects will be able to rejoin, but they won’t be able to queue in the match after.
Lopez.7369 is correct. Also, the dishonor timeout starts counting down right away, so it will likely be gone before you finish the match.
30% is not as good as 0%. Just Sayin’.
Actually, it’s 25%, I was corrected in another thread. Dropping trolling from 100% to 25% with one feature? I’d count that as a win, but you can’t please everyone.
what are the odds of you releasing the map editor tools to us, so we can fix the map ourselves?
Basically nil. The tools we use are very customized to a particular workflow, and there’s a lot of tribal knowledge involved as I understand it. We’d need to allocate a fairly large team dedicated to just this.
That said, I think it would be a lot of fun if we ever held some sort of map concept contest. I believe something like that was done for weapons in GW1.
Couldn’t it just allow someone already in que to join by giving someone qued up a message to join in a on ongoing match?
The system will do that if someone declines or fails to confirm for the match.
I don’t think we want to do that for mid-match DCs. It would means pulling a player into a match in progress, which can be disorienting. There is also a good chance they’d be put on the losing team as the other team has had an advantage while this is happening. This just wouldn’t be fair to that player. Sure we could ask, but what if no one says yes?
Also, what do we do with the player that DC’d? Do they get dishonor? Do we give them a grace period?
What about the other players? Do we keep them idle until a replacement is found? How long do we wait? What happens after that?
There are other options as well. We could just cancel the match and no one gets ladder credit.
It might be doable, but we’d need a good user experience for all involved.
(edited by Justin ODell.9517)
Would you consider more extreme measures, like removing the breakable panels or making them take even longer to break?
The last update included making them take longer to break, and made the canon dodge-able. Are you asking if we’d make it even longer? I’m not sure. This is more a question for the designers.
No, nothing Dec 2nd, other than all the ways we are trying to prevent the 4v5. What ways would you guys like to see this?
I believe some people suggested queuing respawns to compensate, others suggested adjusting the prediction rules. What ever we do, if anything, would need to be exploit free, which makes the problem a lot harder.
I have a question though, have the development team ever thrown out ideas of just removing the water and making slight tweaks to bring it back to pvp?
Yes, we’ve talked about it. We’ve had higher priorities, so it hasn’t been on the task list yet. I don’t know if it will ever come back though, I believe most players would rather see us spend designer and environmental artist time working on new game modes.
sPvP wouldn’t exist if they listened to the majority of players. It’d be GvG and PvE.
Probably not even GvG. :\
Luckily, that isn’t the case for PvP and WvW.
Also, if GvG is your thing… https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/GvG-CDI/first#post4575075
(edited by Justin ODell.9517)
I preferred Raid on the Capricorn and it was removed!
It was removed because we decided to exclude water combat from PvP, not because of anything wrong with the map’s mechanics (outside the water, obviously.)
I loved the map… very few people knew how to work the canon, so they’d leave me alone as I repeatedly blasted them.
I suppose the fact that you ignored the suggestion of dueling in HotM to make waiting for queue less boring should be taken as a “no”. xD
Yes, ‘no’ in that it won’t be available Dec 2nd. No, ‘yes’ in that it’s something we might consider adding in the future.
