First, please never “joke” about legal matters. I’m glad that it was just a joke, but comments of that sort can result in ticket closure. If someone truly is heading down the lawsuit path, we generally will not expend more support efforts (as they likely will be wasted) but instead will provide legal contact information and allow legal proceedings to move forward, if that is the customer’s desire.

Secondly, here are the exact notes from your ticket: “The player contacted us because he thinks he was hacked and transferred to another world. There is no evidence that he was transferred, or that his account was compromised.”

Thirdly, since you are asking for a review, please post your ticket number in the Tickets for Review thread and I will close this post. Thank you for understanding.

If she got her ticket in 30 minutes she was lucky enough to post in the thread right before they reviewed it. Seems like they come and do the tickets in bulk every week or so..

Malilree — you are mistaken about how Support works. Tickets are reviewed and answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Every one who submits a ticket gets an immediate “auto-response” simply to let that person know the ticket is in the queues and will be processed. If you have been waiting a week for a password reset, something may be wrong, or there may be circumstances that you don’t know. For instance, sometimes people ask for a password reset and we discover their account was hacked. Other times, they ask for a password reset for an account they are not able to prove they own, or that multiple people are claiming as theirs. Any of those situations will delay the team’s ability to respond, but they will respond, and a week is far longer than normal.

So, first consider that your e-mail provider may be the culprit here. Please read this thread for information: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Not-Getting-Our-Mails-Yahoo-Gmail-Hotmail-and-more/first#post2924424

If you got your auto-response and feel your e-mail is not the issue, then please post in the Tickets for Review thread above. And with any request for review (or post about a problem with tickets), providing the ticket number is essential. Thank you.

The email did not come from ArenaNet, they did not accuse you of anything. It’s a “phishing” attempt from a hacker in order to gain access to your account. Because you changed your password you should be safe, and Anet has not accused you of doing anything nor will you face any kind of punishment from them.

This is correct. Please see this thread for more information: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/A-Note-about-Phishing-Emails-1/first#post2074388

Oh well, maybe the next CDI will be something else. =)

Hi Cedo,

In the last CDI Process Evolution 2 thread the group decided to try out having the team pick the topics in this round and then we will discuss how we thought it went as a group in CDI Process Evolution 3.

Hope this info helps,

I did include it (-:

9: Posts will be removed moving forward if they are not pertinent to the topic of the CDI.

I assume your point is, ‘Why aren’t you enforcing it yet?’

If so the answer is that this particular thread is pretty amorphous anyway (-:

However I will bump one of my previous posts.

I’ll be disappointed if this means our characters are going to remain mute from now on.

Bobby mentioned the reason our characters are mute at the moment is more of a technical problem they’re trying to overcome.

Here’s his post:

What people don’t understand is that we wrote and voiced a lot of these moments throughout the year. Some scenes and story instances were cut or never implemented in the final releases, which is why this particular story instance was longer than the typical one and filled with lots of exposition.

I sincerely hope that over course of the year there was an opportunity to get the Hero Voice Actors back into studio and allow the players to be more engaged in the climax of the arc than as mute witnesses.

Scavenge some clips from the existing Personal Story library if you have to, but please don’t leave us completely silent in the face of these world altering events!

Funny that you mention player voice. I’ve had a few meetings recently about that. I can’t go into details but I will say that it’s on the list of things we’re looking to address. The current issue is more of a tech one and less of a “we don’t want the player to talk” decision.

I’m guessing he means there’s no current way implemented for our characters to talk (i.e. like the living world characters do) in the open world outside of these one-to-one cinematics (other than audio cues from skills/conditions/etc). Hopefully once that technical hurdle is overcome, our characters will be a lot more vocal.

That’s mostly correct. Right now, the only time your character speaks “in the world” is when certain conditions are met, such as when you’re low on health, you level up, close a conversation with a merchant, etc.

fps drop with patch

  • We don’t have a “PC Team” and a “Mac Team.”

That certainly explains the absurdly low priority level we’re given. I mean we all knew it but seeing it stated in an official capacity stings a bit. It also explains why the mac client isn’t tested after each patch/build independently, if it was this current bug that dropped people from 40fps down to 8fps wouldn’t have gone live I’d hope.

Either way I’m still happy to know that the devs recognize we still exist at least in some capacity and things are being done to right this wrong.

Please don’t read that the wrong way. That means we don’t have a team for each discipline, but that anyone on our team may work on either. This is a good thing, as far as I can see.

Just wanted to post some findings here that I stumbled onto tonight.

I was having issues with safari mac os x 10.9.1 and completely not to do with guild wars but pages weren’t loading or were loading very slow. I did some digging and stumbled across some info about changing the DNS to Googles open DNS servers.

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

link explains more.

Long story short I set up my router and mac and phone and wives phone with that specific DNS of 8.8.8.8 and did a speed test at speedtest.net I usually get around 60ms ping and it returned a ping of 16ms. I then wondered how fast other things such as youtube and other locations loaded and they are blazing now. So I delve a bit deeper wondering how this would impact my Guild Wars 2 Game play and I am sitting at around 50 fps now and have amazingly noticeable speed increases in load times as well. So hope this helps anyone that wants to give it a go.

Wow, impressive! Thank you for sharing this information.

Hi Chris,

Even though i followed the past CDI progress, I wasnt really involved in it proactively.

In general I think it has proven to be a great way to improve communcation between the community and the company and you are doing a great job.

However, in one of the initial posts i think i read that the CDI is aiming to improve all aspects of the game. Unfortunately, i have seen the CDI only focussing on 3 parts, pve, wvw and pvp.

Personally, apart from wvw, the game economy is one of my favourite parts of the game to play. I make alot of gold on the trading post, not for the purpose of spending gold or selling it but just for the ske to know that I am able to make more than the average player, its my game of competive gameplay. Needless to say that John Smiths post about Equilibrium in the market in August and the 2 ascended crafting updates in September and december were my most favourite ones last year.

As a frequent forum user, i realized that the forums for crafting and the BLTC are seldom visited by devs, unless there is some trouble with gems.

I am fully aware that John Smith is quite limited in the information he can post concerning the economy but i personally think that the communication between Anet and the player base could be improved in regards of crafting and the TP/gem store.

I know that some of the issues have been covered in the horizontal/vertical progression CDI topic but i would much rather see a seperate CDI covering the BLTC/crafting/economy of the game in one of the dedicated forums to it.

I am fully aware that John Smith is quite limited in his posts concerning any of these topics concerning the economy and this post is by no means targeted to discredit him in any way, after all the velocity of common crafting mats kept me logging in since September.

But I do think that John could need some help in the ways of communicating with the player base. Just to make sure, this is not a post to flame John, I really appreaciate what he has done so far and I think that the GW2 TP is the best market I have seen in an mmo. He is an excellent economist but he is very limited to what he can say due to internal policies, which i can understand.

As i said, I am very active on the BLTC and Crafting Forums and i would love to see some more dev response there. Apart from me, there are alot of good guys posting frequently in it with alot of knowledge. Right now, it seems that John keeps his posts to a minimum and to the BLTC Forums ( I dont argue with that, even though i think he should pay some attention to thecrafting forum, as it discusses the economy quite often). This post is also not about flaming John because in general I think he has done a kitten job of keeping me logging in every day. So I dont argue with you that he is a great Game Economist ( I really think so!) but i think he needs a little help in communicating with the player base in general.

Chris, you have done a tremendous job in supervising the CDI so far, be it pve, wvw or spvp based. It doesnt matter what knowledge you have of each aspect of the game, communication skills top it all, as long as you have someone next to you in knowing what he is talking about.

However, from a personal point of view, i would really appreciate a CDI concerning crafting/trading. Johns input is always appreciated but I understand his choice of being absent in some discussions due to his position as game economist. I already mentioned that i dont blame him but i think he can learn a great deal from you, trying to communicate to the general player base.

Cheers, Bloin

Hi Bloin,

Good idea.

I will see what the Commerce & Rewards team think.

My only request is that you either remove the Dredge Fractal completely or annihilate a massive portion of respawning mobs in there, especially the clown car (there is no reason for this to exist, it is just a time gate).

This Fractal is the sole reason pretty much everyone I know cannot be bothered with daily runs anymore. It’s too mind-numbingly tedious.

Also, Dredge are annoying by design. Spamming powerful boons with impunity, immunity to blind, insanely strong projectile attacks, unnecessarily long CCs, but worst of all, ridiculous head count.

I will go in to more detail in the official thread if needs be.

Thanks Auesis and Yi,

It would indeed be great if we keep the feedback for when the official threads open (-:

Hi All,

The next round of CDI topics will be starting on Monday 17th February.

The topics will be as follows:

PVE: How would you like to see us evolve Fractals?- Owner- Chris Whiteside

PvP: What would you like to see from a League system? – Owner- John Corpening

WvW: What aspects of Edge of The Mists do you think could carry over to the rest of WvW and how? – Owner- Devon Carver

Bonus: Global: Professions: How would you like to see us evolve (profession: voting is currently underway) balance?- Owner- Allie Murdock

The CDI rules are as follows:

1: This initiative is all about discussion.
2: We will not be disclosing information pertaining to what is currently in development.
3: Anger and emotion will have less impact than intelligent discussion.
4: Together we will share and evolve design philosophies which will impact how we develop the game moving forward.
5: Aggression and disrespect to a fellow community member or developer will not be tolerated, and in the extreme could lead to the shutting down of the initiative.
6: The teams primary focus is work toward the development of GW2 and therefore posting of discussion and commentary may not be as frequent as you like. Please do understand that the initiative is taken very seriously by us all and that we will be reading the discussions and joining in as often as it is possible to do so.

Finally please note this is not a competition, either between yourselves or the developers in regard to one up man ship. The point of this Initiative is to work together to make the game better.

Note: We will disclose the ideas we do or don’t like as a group but we will not discuss schedules or timing around implementation. If there is still concern surrounding how seriously we take community collaboration then please do take the time to think about how much impact the community has had on the working of this game over the year.

We are at the beginning stages of overhauling our cinematic tools. It’s still very early on, so you wont see anything big for quite some time…In the meantime, you should see a gradual improvement in the quality of cut-scenes as the cinematic and writing team strengthen our collaboration efforts.

I should add that custom animations take up a substantial amount of dev resources that aren’t dedicated to cinematics.

The GW1 cinematics team was created for machinama and traditional 3D animation…whereas the GW2 team was built around animating concept art (motion graphics work)

The cinematics that you see in the personal story where 2 characters talk to each other on a stage-like environment have been…retired.

Cinematics/cut-scenes are an important part of our game. We are constantly striving to make them better and push the limits of our current tools in the process.

is this change just for newly developed content, or do you plan to update the old personal story cinematics as well ?
what about dungeon cinematics ?

I don’t think it would be a wise investment to go back and redo some of the old cinematics. There will be plenty of new story content needing cinematic moments.

If there is time, I’d love to have the option to take a polish pass on old stuff.

The cinematics that you see in the personal story where 2 characters talk to each other on a stage-like environment have been…retired.

This makes me a sad panda Care to explain why?

1. Dev resources for the the team that handled the 2 person cinematics were moved onto other teams after launch. I think it was about 3-4 people. We no longer have the resources to support those types of cinematics. Every gesture and expression is hand placed for each line. Even with a library of additive animation, it still took a lot of time to make one.

2. Personally, I was never a fan of the presentation. I think it breaks immersion and takes you out of the moment.

3. We could never paint enough background art for every scenario. You could experience a cinematic at night, next to a cave, but the background is a happy Divinity’s Reach.

4. Line timing was always an issue. There would always be a pause as new characters came in to speak.

5. Technical limitations prevented us from having more than 2 characters on screen at a time. This made for some pretty painful scenes…Characters would pop on screen and jump from left or right breaking an imaginary 180 degree rule.

Sometimes cutting a broken feature is better than leaving it in with issues. By cutting it, it forces us to develop better tools and presentations. Nothing will get better by ignoring something that a large portion of fans dislike. -I know some fans liked them

Hopefully our future solution will include the gestures, expressions, and additive technology from the 2 character cinematics, but play out in the game world with proper camera cuts and lip sync.

When does trash talk become "verbal abuse"?

The CS Team monitors in-game reports 24/7/365. If you report offensive language — truly offensive, not just something that irritates you — the team will investigate and take the appropriate action, often within minutes of your report.

Not every report results in action, because the agent looks at the big picture and considers our policies and sometimes what a player thinks is actionable is not exactly a breach of the RoC. However, for offensive name calling, you select the character, choose “verbal abuse” and the report is submitted immediately to CS.

Put all my money on the Devs!

I love the content WP, MattVisual, Blu, and whoever else produce…but if they gotta fight the Tylers, the Jons, or Grouch…they’ll get wrecked :P

Put Teldo on the list!

Why isn’t Grouch or T-Bear in the lineup to represent Engi Master Class?

That’s because Chap and I will be busy providing glorious gameplay commentary…

or something like that.

It won’t be a Dev vs. community scrim this time around. We’re going to pick captains (likely some top players) and they will pick teams. We expect the devs will be on both teams!

what characters the developers play?

What server are you on, Danicia? I recall seeing a minionmancer dev a couple weeks ago in LA on CD, was that you?

Prolly so. Today’s playing will be on my Ele or Ranger. Or Guardian. I JUST DON’T KNOW YET.

Hey guys — Just a few things:

  • We don’t have a “PC Team” and a “Mac Team.” So it’s not possible to give you names of people working on the Mac improvements. Basically, development is handled by the team as a whole, with several people picking up or providing input on various parts of a particular project. If we can flag names in the future, we’ll do it.
  • I’m not a technical support person, per se. Ashley and others on that team are more conversant with tech issues, and yes, you will see them around — they’re great!
  • Just to clarify, I don’t focus on Windows or PC; I do my bit for any player. (Well, there was the guy who wanted to use Unbutu and I had to let him down gently. )
  • Someone asked that we pass along a word of thanks to those working on the Mac updates and it was a pleasure to share that message. Thanks for your thoughtfulness.
  • All Mac improvements have and will have a thorough QA pass. If something creeps up after release, there can be a dozen different reasons why that happened. But testing is done and with every issue, we learn things that help us prevent future issues. (Nothing will ever be flawless, but each fix is both a fix and an education, if that makes sense.)
  • Progress continues on the FPS issue and more is coming in the future.

Thanks for the response! The store manager’s reaction was more along the lines of “It happens, come back and try again in a day or two,” but I’ll follow up with the store.

I hope it works out for you, and again, thanks for supporting the game.

Cinematics Lead

Next

How do they get the sent from email “noreply@guildwars2.com” in their phishing emails?

is guildwars2.com not owned by anet?

It’s called “spoofing”. Anyone can make their email address look like anything. Have you ever gotten a spam email that appears to have been sent to you, from you at the same address?

They’re not actually sending from guildwars2.com, they’re just making it look that way. Think of it as a mask worn over the real address.

Very good analogy, and correct information. An unscrupulous person can send an e-mail that appears to come from anyone. If you’re in doubt, one way to check on it is to look at the e-mail’s “properties” to see the actual sending string. Instead of coming from Arena.Net or GuildWars2.com, in fake e-mails you might see our address as “sender” but a string for the actual property that points somewhere very different, even from a completely different country or continent!

This is a very stingy request, and I hope I don’t look too whiney, but I purchased the guild wars 2 collector’s edition with early access. Initially I received all the included in-game bonuses, such as miniature Rytlock Brimstone, and the glory points. I recently noticed my Miniature Rytlock Brimestone was no longer in my collections box, and i was wondering if I could get him back? I know this sounds selfish, and I’m sure I was responsible for his loss, but GW2 is a big part of my life, and Rylock Brimestone is honestly my idol in life. I look to his statue on my computer desk and my plush Charrlie ( who i also consider rytlock) whenever I need an extra opinion! It surmise I’d love to know if it would be possible to replace this account item? If not, I’ll live.

In game character name is Master Rayn.

We definitely want to help your friend, so please have him submit a ticket using the suggestions above.

Also, as a general note, if someone writes an e-mail and it arrives successfully, a ticket is created automatically, and the person who submitted the ticket will get an automatic response right away. So if you send an e-mail and do not receive a response, you know that it didn’t come through. If you send an e-mail and get a “We’ve received your ticket” sort of response, you’re good to go!
