Lich Knight [elite spec concept]

Hello all! I wanted to try and come up with ideas about a new elite spec so I decided to make a post in hopes of creating inspiration. I’m not very good at making post so i’ll just be putting a rough idea. I came up with the Lich Knight because one of the trademark abilities of a necromancer is the ability to raise undead, however in gw2 the ability to use undead isn’t really that prevalent outside of a few utilities.

The Lich Knight is a class that is centered around using and maintaining undead minions.

Weapon proficiency: Sword and Shield
These two weapons center around consistently gaining life force to spend on skeletal minions and keeping them alive. (ex. a shield skill that allows the user to block incoming attacks and for each attack that is blocked you gain a certain amount of life force or create a bone wall that can be attacked and grant life force based on how much damage it received. While one sword skill creates a reverse leeching effect allowing you to heal your minions when you use it to deal damage, but not yourself)

profession mechanic change:
This change will be very similar to the scourge in that life force is used as a secondary resource and lose its effectiveness as a secondary life bar. For the lich knight this resource is used to summon skeletal minion. Each minion will perform a different role and have two abilities. One is their auto attack while the other is a long cd ability it will use automatically once it goes of cd. There may be a trait that adds a 3rd skill as well.

The skeletons:
There are 3 basic skeletons you can spend life force on. Each skeleton has its own set of stats separate from your own based on what kind of skeleton they are. There is a fourth that I like to call amalgamation that combines the skeletons you have and the end result is based on what skeletons were used and the stats are based on how many were used. Skeletons however are in a constant state of health degeneration that increases the longer you have them out, and you can only have a maximum of 8 at a time or 10 traited. Design wise, each skeleton is random in appearance based on the playable races available with the exception of the bone dragon.

Knight Skeleton: it is a minion that has high toughness and vitality, but low offense. It has an ability to charge into the fight and is used to draw the attention of the enemy preventing it from focusing on other minion or yourself.

Magic Skeleton: A skeleton that uses dark magic to attack your enemies. power focused

Melee Skeleton: A Skeleton that focuses on melee attacks, they attack faster than magic skeletons do. condition focused

Amalgamations
Skeleton Guard: Majority Knight Skeletons. an advanced version of the knights with better skills available for it to use. Even having a taunting skill.

Lesser Lich: Majority Magic Skeletons. A Skeleton that summons bone minions that quickly run toward the target and explode. It has better aoe potential. The bone minions it brings out doesn’t count as minions under your control so it doesn’t effect your counter.

Skeleton Swordsman: Majority Melee Skeletons. Has better condition stacking potential and more conditions it can apply.

Bone Dragon: have 10 on your summons counter, it has strong ability to perform all 3 roles. Its stats are based on what was used to bring it out so it can’t perform well at all 3 roles at the same time. It has a basic claw attack, and for the CDs a biting attack ( power based), a breath attack (condition based), and a defensive skill. It won’t use the defensive skill until its health lowers to a certain point.

Note: sacrificing skeletons for amalgamations doesn’t decrease the counter. If you use it to bring out a Bone Dragon, the counter will still be at 10 and be unable to summon lesser undead until it dies. The advanced skeletons are not used during amalgamation so you could have multiple of the advanced undead as long as your counter doesn’t go over 10. You must think carefully ahead what you will want to use.

Healing and Utilities:
A healing skill that heals you based on how high your minion counter is, and heals your minions for a small amount and grants them regeneration.

Enhancements: These utilities are centered around improving your minions through buffs or allowing them to improve their role better. Like a Flame enhancement cloaks them in fire causing fire damage to enemies close to them if they are a guard or adds burning to the melee attackers attacks for a duration, Bone Armor that improves their survival, etc.

Elite: Sacrifice – You sacrifice all of your summons in order to absorb them granting a large buff to yourself depending on what was sacrificed.

The idea of this spec is to constantly build up your resource to keep summoning minions and advancing them into stronger forms and empowering them. The biggest weakness though is that without their minions they are relatively weak. If you were to face one then focus their non-knight/guard minions down and then target the lich knight. They are also weak to CC.

For anyone complaining, do you even know what a sniper is?

For anyone who thinks they know what snipers do, do you think they fire off shots rapidly in succession?

it depends on the rifle being used. There are some that shoot a burst of shots like 3 shots in a row on a single trigger pull, and there are some that shoot once when you pull the trigger. The first one is a little weaker when it comes to accuracy and power, while the other tends to have more power, precision, and penetration capability.

I think the rifle skills capture the concept of sniper perfectly.

if rifle skills are able to be reflected you would break the entire spec. The only time you can push out those really high numbers is a time frame of a few seconds when you have max malice stacks and before the mark goes off cd. You can easily dodge the shots since they have easy tells. Asking to make an entire spec completely null with a single button press is only asking for free kills.

tl;dr So it really is a L2P issue, you just need to learn to play yourself instead of breaking an entire class.

Tbh, i hope they keep it that way, You can reflect #2 but all the other skills not. Considering the amount of random kittening ass reflects theres is everywhere it will make no sense to even try to snipe someone, ull just get your ass kicked by random reflects.

On the other hand, i can see why they will do it and i guess ill just deal with it.

Deadeye is currently a bad glass cannon. If it gets changed to reflectable projectile then nobody will play it except maybe bearbows who want option to perma stow pet.

I don’t get it. Warrior’s kill shot is reflect-able, takes longer to cast and is obvious, uses adrenaline, and does far less damage. You don’t see me complaining. I just don’t fire it when I see a reflect.

Again, L2P issue. Don’t spam shots into a bunch of reflects. Pick targets better.

i don’t think weaver was ever meant to be support. it is a glass cannon damage dealer. if you are going support then you may want to stick with tempest.

on a side note: If you are dead set on going support and need quick access to certain skills I think there is a utility that allows you to attune your entire weapon skill set into one attunement with your next attunement button press.

After testing it a little bit I’ll put my suggestions.

Try to make it easier to get out of kneeling. I love the idea and feel behind it, however if we need to get out of dodge it feels very constraining. I think it would be helpful to have movement keys or jump knock you out of it.

Let the AA be a little bit faster. They are currently too slow.

My last suggestion is just an idea and i’m not sure if it would be good or not. How about inverting the marked mechanic. When you mark a target start off with max malice and have it slowly degrade as the duration shortens. Maybe even have the time you have certain amount of malice go by quicker as well. Like first 5s have it at max, then next 4s will be at -1, then 3s -2, then 2s -3, then have it remain static at -4 for the rest of its duration.

I agree with the previous comment. Hybrid builds shouldn’t be better than a focused build. The way it seems to be now, it completely invalidates any build that wants to focus in the area they are going for. This really limits the options when it comes to how people want to build their characters, which is something I thought Anet wanted to avoid.

Does tanking exist in this game? I am a returning player after having been away for a while (like years a while) the new expansion has drawn me in. I always liked the sword and shield tank playstyle, but when I checked out build sites for suggestions, it is always high dps or support healing.

Instead of an aura I would like something like a small orb representing the beast’s soul randomly hover around you. The aura shown is to in the way and only adds way to much to an already overly flashy and cluttered particle effects in this game.

There are ways to balance it out. For example it could deal high damage with long wind up. Like my idea in a earlier post. Have it drain ini the longer you keep it charged for higher damage. I doubt the weapon set would make stealth available and would make thieves rely on using their utilities for that. I think they need to improve the range options for thief. Have the pistol be more fast paced and have rifle be slow paced and about management of initiative to get the most out of it. P/P right now is really hurting and if they make a elite spec out of rifle it would most likely also benefit p/p as well.

thieves have always wanted two things since i started playing beta. First is an off-hand sword, second was Rifle. Honestly staff was thrown from pretty much nowhere recently.

What I hope for is a rifle. This is for two reasons. One is I think it could be incorporated in a cool way to have charging skills that drain initiative the longer you have it charged for more damage. The second is it would give an excuse to alter the steal mechanic to something similar with the exception of being able to maintain range. This would be beneficial not only to the rifle but the P/P and SB builds as well.

For the most part , excluding the ele, these elite specs are giving classes something that they lacked while also trying to benefit the tools it already has. Two things pop up into mind for things they lack. One is a strong defensive set the other is a slow yet strong range option. So in a sense both rifle and staff(if made into a defensive weapon set) could be something that thief lacked.

My reason for not wanting weapon swap is due to the fact that it was in a way a limiter that revs would have to work around. When in melee you are given the tools you need to fight even in a anti melee situation. I was looking forward to getting into those types of situations and improvise using my current tool kit instead of meh -swaps weapon cuz easier-.

for number 2 make it have a blast finisher or something like that. as for 5 instead of more damage maybe something like daze them for a moment with a counter attack for normal amount of damage. Also like the idea of adding some evade frames to the chain attack similar to the ranger sword (been a while since i played on a ranger so i could be remembering wrong.) This will give thieves a more defensive weapon set which i think they might be lacking. (not sure on that i’m just now coming back after about a year and a half of not playing so feel free to correct me)

Plot twist. The gods are the physical manifestations of the dragons consciousness during their “sleep” time to regulate magic use. So the dragons are one and the same as the gods. The mass amounts of magic causes them to go berserk until it is in safe levels. lol just kidding. I am curious what relation the gods have with the dragons. Three must be some reason they just disappeared right about when the dragons began to awake.

Spotter kit. A kit focusing on amplifying your turrets and a tag feature that makes all your turrets focus on the target and gives bonus for doing so. Basically your turrets will do well if you use this kit to maintain them efficiently. It can give temporary buffs to your turrets as well like increase speed and power or temporarily add an effect.

2. a aoe. does a spin into a stab which also has a similar trait for being in melee and creates a whirlwind of shadow the moves in a straight path until it hits the target.
3 deals several rapid stabs/multiple shots
4. a defense skill that creates a dark orb around the player that acts as a field creating darkness when attacked or release it to buff those around you with aegis.
5. a gap closer where the character will do a stabbing charge towards their target.
This setup makes it so mid range is viable but if you are willing to take the risk of getting close it will be more rewarding. also makes it possible to give some support with blind and aegis potential as well.
just a concept not worried about numbers since that can be figured out during balancing which is the devs job to take care of.

pistol/pistol I like the idea of a power weapon set using these two weapons for necro using a new mechanic. This being shadow magic manifestations shown as symbols of death and darkness that hover mid air and are vertical. they enhance projectiles that move through them. Similar to fields but specifically for projectiles. They are also unstackable. This way in order to use them effectively the necro will have to focus on position and situation to get the best out of it. It is also a good set to use in groups with many ranged characters.

  1. Death bullet/Death bullet/Wraith shots – deals average damage/deals average damage/ rapidly fire 3 shots at 50% damage
  2. Crimson symbol – Places a symbol a small distance in front of you that enhances all projectiles that go through it causing increase to damage by 10%. Fades away after a certain time. Lasts 10s/CD 25s
  3. abyssal symbol – places symbol mid air vertically a small distance in front of you that enhances all projectiles that go through it causing them to create a conal scatter shot at 20% damage for each bullet creates 5 total. Lasts 10s/CD 25s
  4. Shadow bullet – Turn into a mass of shadow energy jumping back while shooting. 10s CD
  5. moonlight symbol – Creates a symbol that enhances projectiles causing them to deal damage to enemies and heal close allies for a small amount based on damage giving it a leeching effect but instead of just you healing the team. Lasts 10s/CD 40s

    the skills are something i just threw together so no need to pay attention to that since that wasn’t really asked for in this thread. However i would like to see some necros using pistols combining it with their dark magic. =)

PvPvE dungeons

I am not sure if this has been suggested before but I always liked the concept of PvPvE dungeons where it has a pve concept instance where you go through mobs fight awesome bosses and have a feature where the boss can call on players to assist and save him/her/it and the lair. Maybe add some more groups(similar to the orders) the player can join and have those determine the boss they assist when helping which would give it a pvp element as well. I know that there may be balance issues at first pending on how you take on this (you could make it completely pvp where each player keeps their stats or set it where they get set pre-set stats and skills based on current weapon sets) but i think it would be worth it to have a instance like this. Who says pvp and pve can’t blend together if successfully pulled off this would be extremely fun to do and I am sure many others may enjoy it as well.

if they do make a MH pistol i would like to see an ability where they shoot a bullet and use their phantasm magic to turn that bullet into multiple bullets which would be awesome haha. maybe do solid damage for the initial bullet and every clone bullet causes confusion and create 5-6 bullets each time (i mean if you got shot but a non existent bullet wouldn’t you be a bit wtf O.o)

Hello I am Kurai and i main a thief i enjoy the s/d setup. My current guild is fun but every one never represents and quite frankly it feels like I’m the only one in guild. So i decided to look for a new guild. I’m looking for a PvX guild who does some wv3. I enjoy small guilds who are close knit and treat each other like family and have members who represent often.

Should Level Cap Increase in Xpacs?

thanks to the scaling system that sorta makes level cap increase a bit redundant if you ask me. i can see them having something similar to the first one Factions for example there was a whole section for leveling (for the new implemented races in gw2 maybe) while the rest was for level cap which is 80. The scaling system makes it so no matter where your at lvl wise you still can’t completely faceroll content as easily. I think new regions with new enemies and new mechanics are plenty for a expansion.

i’d like to see one of the unarmed abilities to be a parry/counter on parry ability since i don’t think the thief has very many of those. kinda like the warrior offhand sword ability but instead of sword it be your fist. and maybe the 5th can be a cheap shot ability causing 1 random condition like confusion daze stun or blind with probability for the stronger ones to be low while something like confusion and daze are high. not sure what to put for 1 2 and 3 though

The build I’m using involves using the S/D setup now you wont be pushing massive numbers but that’s not the point of the build. the point is to daze the target as much as possible to prevent him from taking action. When you prevent the target from taking action you in fact prevent damage that could have been taken by your team members and make the target incapable of buffing themself and what not. Running AC with that set up was a god send being able to prevent breeders from doing anything period and stopping the veteran level mobs that the howling king spawns from causing to much trouble. In gw2 you can’t have the same concept as other mmos where i want big numbers to be good its now how can i best help out the group with what i got available. the sooner players realize that the better their game play will be for them and their allies.

Why does flanking strike blow so hard?

In pvp this ability does suck but in pve this ability is really helpfull for ripping boons off of enemies. There is a time and place for every skill unfortunately in pvp that almost never appears.

I love my thief in pve i run a sword and dagger build with 0/30/30/0/10. The 10 in trickery is to give a little buff to my allies when i steal and the 3 initiative in case i screw up on cloak and dagger which does sometimes happen (human error not much you can do but account for it) The main focus of this set up is to constantly daze the target with some OK damage and survivability the sword has a cleave so you can hit multiple targets and i really liked it. I’m still in the process of learning how to play this weapon set and I’m able to upkeep daze like 75% of the time and when i get to 80 with the right runes and sigils I’ll be able to keep it up maybe 95% of the time xD I really like how i have to focus on my positioning and timing for it to be effective

I like to see using only 1 one handed weapon and that’s it viable. It is a interesting concept for maybe give thieves the abilities to have 5 abilities with a single one handed weapon and give some bonuses (in traits) for only wielding a single weapon to balance it out stats wise with the dual wielding builds. I know for sure that if that were implemented i would love to use only a single sword. for example maybe have the last two abilities have something to do with using your free hand to improve your main weapon that changes based on what the main hand weapon is like pistol main-hand could have a charged aim ability similar to the wars rifle ability where you use both hands on the pistol to aim on target to deal extra damage and for the sword have a defensive ability that allowed you to parry with your hand and counter attack with your main-hand etc it could add a lot more variety of play styles

I’m sure it has been brought up before i don’t have enough time to check myself since I’m in a hurry and don’t want to forget about it later (I’m a very forgetful person) but please implement a similar makeover system that you had in the gw1 game like 200 gems for hair and hair color 1000 gems for all other creation selections and 1500 gems for gender swap. I am sure many other players would like to tweak out their characters that they worked hard on to get to lvl 80. This way we can tweak our characters whenever our taste change and you ( A-net) can make a little profit off it to make the game even more better.

Hello I’m just now getting back into my thief after taking a break for studies. I had been using P/P build but wanted to try something new after toying with the different weapon combination i have it down to 2 possibilities which are the S/P and S/D setups i would like to hear opinions that veteran thieves have on these two weapons combination which would you prefer or consider more efficient and why what are the pros and cons of both in your eyes. Also my thief is currently lvl 56 who mostly PvE and with sum WvW. I use a short-bow as a ranged weapon swap does that affect your opinion and why? the more information the more help you give in helping me make a choice. I personally love the feel of both of them so i am having a hard time deciding.

look up the polymock mini game from gw1 it is almost the same thing they said they are gonna implement polymock eventually but maybe they will change a few things??

I’d like more variety on pets with ranged attacks kinda like the devourer i actually would like some cooler looking skins for devourers that can be tamed I kinda like the Branded one lol

IMO and from experiance almost never accept guild invites from those who use mchat or whisp u for inv if u go online research guilds and find one you think suits u. it takes some effort to find a good guild there are areas in the official site and on guru that has a long list of guilds that are recruiting thats how i found mine and i love it we help each other out have a good time and what not. when it comes to guilds u get what u put in it.
