I want to get into this game but can't

The OP has a valid point here. It’s quite hard to defend the difficulty of GW2’s PvE when there is none. That game IS brainless and dedicated to casuals, and that’s how it was advertised. That’s also what drove me away, but that’s because I want to invest myself in the game, and GW2 is not made for that.

Ultimately, it’s a matter of taste, that kind of content doesn’t fit the tastes of everyone. Some players probably like that kind of relaxing gameplay, where you can have an eye on a movie, and the other on your game, even in dungeons. It fits the “games are just for fun” ideal, and it’s fine that way. After all, Arenanet never proved that they wanted to offer challenging content to their players.

To the OP, if you want some challenge, GW2 is really not for you. I know it’s getting harder and harder to find some mmos with a minimum of challenge, but I think that it’s still possible. I am actually planning to get back to EvE.

EVE does this right, EVE does that right.

Then why don’t you play EVE?

Because EVE sucks.

Correction : You don’t like EvE.

Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it sucks. I don’t like the casual direction that GW2 took, and it’s still a fairly successful game. So it has some good points, just like EvE, that is still holding a fair amount of dedicated players.

As I said, I am actually planning to get back to EvE. I had to stop for many reasons, but after the disappointement that GW2 is for me, and the fact that I am now more disponible for a game encouraging involvement, I just feel like it’s the good time to get back in that wide and complexe game.

Matter of taste, just like for TESO. A point proven by the post just before mine.

Is it too hopeful that this means they’re actually working on weapon set proliferation? Marjory (the second necro to get this ‘gift’, the first being shudders Trahearne) has a greatsword (that isn’t Caladbolg which we know has unique skills if you play the right Sylvari path) now and a blowtorch (perfectly themed for an Engineer- and not for thief/ranger) was created?

Answer:
Probably

Yes, it is indeed too hopeful.

The development of the NPCs has never, for now, had any consequences on our own characters.

They are the ones getting all the shiny new toys, the new powers, the new possessed greatsword, while the boss is staying in his mud. No need to create new skills, or to even balance them. It’s just easier that way.

Get used to it. We are not seeing greatsword necromancers or hammer/mace/torch engineer anytime soon.

Simple question: No more dungeons coming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aethyl.7519

I expect that they will bring out more group content but it will not be a traditional dungeon.

Essentially, the designers are not going to add new dungeons with the same easy skipping and stacking. Players want that more difficult dungeon until it actually comes to making a group to run it, and then they decide to stick to the existing speed runs. TA Aetherblade was well designed dungeon, the players weren’t interested enough in that, so the designers won’t be rushing to make similar content again.

The Aetherblade dungeon was interesting, but they dropped the ball with the rewards, hiding them behind a ridiculous RNG. They don’t know how to balance the amount of time passed/reward thing, it has been going on for a while now.

And to answer the question of that thread, indeed, they said in an interview that there wouldn’t be new dungeons, that a hard mode wasn’t even considered, that kind of things.

Instanced content other than the LS one is not in their priorities, that’s for sure.

The end result is that I’ve been on a GW2 hiatus for about 5 months. I didn’t really intend for it to last this long, but I’ve been using the day they fix kits as a landmark to when I return.

I imagine I’m a pretty rare case, but I can at least say that people like me + people who aren’t buying back slot items because their engineer can’t use them should at least account for some cash in their pocket, I would think.

I am in the same boat. The fact that my main is a Charr (which makes things even worse) engineer who like his flamethrower, but is stuck with a disgusting bag on his back instead of the back item I want is one of the many reasons who drove me away from this game.

I could get back, if that simple issue is fixed, and I could give some money to Arenanet to thank them.

However, they don’t think like that, and that’s why there is a directly in my last post.

Engineers returning, eventually buying backpack and giving money to Arenanet, is not an assured and important enough benefit to Arenanet to push them to use their resources to fix that.

Meanwhile, wonderful griffins that we see 2 seconds to replace our messenger pidgeon, and that were suggested on a way less followed thread that this hobosack one, is a substantial way to get money. It is a new item in the gemstore, and as such, it will bring some money to Arenanet, for sure, no matter what happens.

Fixing hobosacks would make alot of players happy, too, but it would be more of a gamble when it comes to reward them for that fix.

Yes, I am pretty disappointed when it comes to Anet’s priorities, as you may see.

As a player and paying customer, I feel alienated and disrespected (and have, for some time now) – they know this is a problem, and they still brush us off, only to implement things like customizing the bird that brings you mail, but only if you have a level 71+ character on your account.

I agree about everything you said, but there is a huge difference between those two suggestions, you know.

The kit issue being fixed doesn’t directly bring some more money to Arenanet.

That’s as simple as that.

The logic behind thinking of a welding torch being a pistol is… baffling and illogical.

And the logic of implementing a welding torch in the first place, while making it unusable by the only class which would logically use it, is just as illogical, if not more.
But I can’t say that I am surprised about that.

Hello Gaile. Glad to finally get some feedback, and I thank you for that.

Here are my thoughts about the last news.

And yes, I know those are not the solutions that will be given to us, but I will still give my opinion about it.

> The fix concerning gem-store only backpacks is a big no. Many backpacks are released in that game as IG rewards, sometimes really expensive one (Jetpack, anyone?) and some players build their looks around those backpacks.

If a fix happens, it should concern all backpacks. That’s as simple as that.

> Second idea, the holster one. Not a big fan of it since it’s once again an undyable (that’s the biggest issue, undyable. That color clashes with almost all kind of armors.) piece that will recover the armor we are so proud of. Plus, if the holsters are that little, they won’t even serve their purpose, especially on Asuras, giving them another advantage.

And I will also add that there is already a backpiece completely trashing the prediction purpose of the backpacks, the rucksack, already completely covering backpieces.

-

Here is the best solution exposed in that topic, in my humble opinion :

> Each engineer get a visible boon similar to the attunement of the elementalists when equiped with a kit. Like that, our enemy can see what we are using.

Then, we get a checkbox in our inventory, near our bag. If checked, the engineer backpacks are displayed when using kits, replacing the classical backpiece. If not, they are not displayed, and the classical backpiece/absence of backpiece stays.

If a checkbox is not possible, just give us the attunement solution and get rid of the backpack, maybe releasing the different skins as backpiece skins, free of charge for engineers.

Once again, thanks.

A charr engineer hoping that this issue will finally be resolved.

Without getting in the whole “you are forced to use kits or not” ongoing war, a subject where I have my own thoughts, but won’t be expressing them here, I will just get back to the subject at hand.

Why should hammers and maces follow the same pattern / utility than the one from the warrior ? Especially considering the fact that the guardian mace has NO control, no stun, nothing.

Just make them uniques enough, and everything should be fine. And anyway, since their nerfs, the runes of perplexity are way less problematics. The ICD was a good fix by itself.

I have been wishing for melee weapons for my engineer since the launch of the game, and those two weapons make too much sense. I highly doubt that a single rune set would make them as overpowered as you think.

SPOILER from last ls update. New class?

in Living World

Posted by: Aethyl.7519

Aethyl.7519

Sigh …

Seeing how some players are actually grasping to straws to believe that a new class is coming is kind of sad.

Even if Rytlock comes back stronger, with new abilities, or whatever, there is absolutely no hint implying that it would impact our own characters, or our own gameplay.

Let’s be honest, since two years, the gameplay of that game have been quite stagnant. Meanwhile, the characters which are evolving are the NPCs of the game. Marjory getting her greatsword is a good example. Is it hinting that Necromancer could get that weapon class later ?

Not at all, it just shows the evolution of a biconic, her story.

The living story is all about them, not us. All about how it impacts them, and not our character.

So yeah, that teaser is probably just a hint showing that Rytlock will comes back changed. Nothing else. No new class, no new weapons for our characters.

Hyping for nothing can only get you disappointed.

So … As a disappointed engineer, since two years, it’s my turn to post in that infamous topic that shouldn’t exist anymore.

And I will let that here.

I liked the capes in Guild Wars, especially since the art and animation teams got such a fluid “flow” to the fabric. (Actually, other game designers asked how it was done, back in the day!)

I imagine there would be challenges in incorporating capes, and naturally a cape would cover some of the armor pieces, which is a drawback when you’ve worked hard to get the whole “look” going on. As mentioned, it was brought up in the CDI, so that’s good.

Paradox — I’m curious. Why do you say “no capes?”

Found here, the cape topic on the main forum.

Devs, please do not take the mix and matching for town clothes out of the game. I spent probably close to $30 on gems back in December to nab what I wanted at the time for my characters JUST out of those items, and I’d really like to retain my ability to wear and dye them as I please across my account. I DO NOT want tonics that I have no control over what they look like be it the arbitrary pieces you think match with them or the dye schemes I probably will have no ability to change. I DO NOT want to be stuck with the entire default town clothes set either if I don’t wish to be (see the second image in the line up, my first move is ALWAYS to delete the shoes of the sylvari default town clothes because I hate them).

Don’t take away features that are already in the game, don’t take away content we already have. Its a step backwards it the middle of an update that I was otherwise thrilled to the point of happy tears about. If I want to run around Tyria barefoot in a hoodie and shorts in colors of MY choosing whenever I choose to, these town clothes that I paid for with gems bought with actual money, then I really think I should be able to retain that ability that I already have.

I agree with everything you said.

Greetings,

As it has been said, the town clothings, or “costumes” will see their functionality reduced to a simple tonic, so they can be used in combat.

A legitimate feature, I can agree about that, since many asked for that.

However, noone asked to get the customisation of said clothes to be reduced, and by a huge margin.

No more dyes, and no more mix and match, only “one and only” set.

I can understand that it was mainly a RP feature (mainly, not only), but it was a FUN feature. One exemple could be the story of that huge Norn with a winterday outfit, a christmas hat, a big white beard, that was distributing gifts in Lion’s Arch.

It’s fun, and offers appreciable moments to the community.

I already know that some people will consider that complaint to not be acceptable, but those sets were actually from the GEM STORE, and as such, many players used real money to buy them.

I personally know many RPers that constantly paid to get new outfits and clothes for their characters, or to get new character slot, and also to change the appearance of their characters.

RPers also bring some money to you, Anet, and you are just forgetting them with that update, and it’s not acceptable.

And no, I don’t want to get a refund, I want to keep my outfits as they have been from the day I buyed them, dyeable, and mixable.

So, let us keep that option, while also offering the tonics for the ones that want it.

Simple.

Hoping that this request will be considered.

That wardrobe is an awesome addition, I won’t deny that, however, the way you handle the costume clothes is awful, really awful.

I will just put that as simply as I can … How can the first picture, the one showing why I actually got that wintersday outfit to begin with, can even be compared to that second one ?

It can’t. You are actually removing a feature that was here from launch, aka, the possibility to dye and mix and match out town clothes outfit.

I like my Charr to look classy, a shame, right ?

So, to satisfy some (a legitimate complaint, still), you are actually forgetting all those players that LOVE to customise their characters, buy some dyes to actually change the color of their town clothes, and buy many outfits to be able to switch the parts between them.

That’s not acceptable, in my opinion, as my wintersday outfit will basically be useless as soon as that update go live.

Bad move, in my opinion, very bad move, and it is just showing how Anet treats the RPers.

“Play the game as you wish to play it.”

A simple way to fix that would be to give the tonics, and allow us to keep our old customisable sets.

Especially since ALL THOSE SETS are gem store only.

Why engineer can't be meele class?

in Engineer

Posted by: Aethyl.7519

Aethyl.7519

I, for one, would welcome hammer and maces as weapons for our engineers.

Why ? Many reasons.

First of all, maces could give us power based one handed weapon.
It would open more variety of gameplay, by allowing us to go shield + mace in a power build for example.
Shield trait give us toughness, toughness that can be transmuted into power, so …

And hammers could give us a good CC weapon, since we are supposed to be CC classes, after all, and it could be funny to use too.

About the defenders of the whole “go kits and you can melee” I will just ask one question, wouldn’t you like to have some weapons that would synergise better with such builds and kits ? Having the possibility to get full melee builds could be interesting, by switching between bombs / toolkits / and hammer or maces. It just opens even more variety in our gameplay !

It may just be me, but I don’t understand that argument.

It seems that some people tend to think that hammers and maces could ONLY be used without kits, but that’s not the case, after all.

Edit : And I forgot the last reason, less important to many peoples, but still a valid one.

The endgame of that game is cosmetic. As it stands, we can only have three customised weapons, since our kits always keep the same appearance. And I am not even talking about the hobosacks preventing us to profit from our backpacks.

Maces and Hammers would extend the endgame objectives of many engineers, and it’s not to forget.

My main being an engineer, I totally agree.

Looking at what that skill brings, it basically is a direct version of the healing turret overcharge.

Sigh … I really liked the fact that I was bringing the cleansing skills in the party. It’s one of the rare things that the engineer can do better that other classes. Now, every class will have access to the same kind of heal.

Plus, it’s really a step in the wrong direction, since universal skills are only narrowing the variety between classes.

I, for one, really hate that decision.

Aethyl.7519

I have the same exact problems, as a jetpack wielding engineer, it can be quite annoying when using a rifle to see it like that, just out of place.

Same goes for the main one-handed weapon being smaller, and that’s why I usually go with two different pistols, so it isn’t that obvious.

Since the launch, I have many cosmetic issues like those to adress :

- Hidden pistol pointed to the sky when firing, it’s especially noticeable when using the engineer toolbelt skill, a shame since it can actually be a fun skill to use.
- The holey medium pants when using the T3 racial. (Preview the T3 top and the T2 pants to have a good idea.)
- And of course, the many clipping armors, like the medium ascalonian or HoW.

However, they are not bugs, we have those issues because the Charr race was harder to implement that the other ones, and isn’t followed by Anet because it’s an underrepresented race, as they stated it.
So, don’t expect any change soon, even if you report them.

Programming progress always takes time. Some people don’t want to wait and that’s okay.

Some will come back, some won’t and that’s okay too.

But stop blaming the programmers for your inflated expectations.

No GvG in a game naming itself Guild Wars 2…

There is something wrong here, can’t put my finger on what exactly.

GvG was a core value of GW1, and I still don’t understand why it won’t be implemented in the second.

Also, yeah, I quite desire player housing. A real one, not the useless instanced “house” we have now.

But I still enjoy those updates nonetheless.

Hi Necro, I know that feel. As I said, their swapping abilities largely compensate. And that’s what I regret most when playing my thief instead of my engineer.

I know other classes need more skills as well, and I still think that to be restricted to 5 skills by weapon set, without the possibility to customise them is stupid.

Overall, we need more skills customisation, I think.

About the off-hand sword, it could have a parry ability, and maybe a disengaging ability? Could synergise well with the shadowstep of the main-hand sword.

I agree about the fact that D/S would look kinda wonky, but it could still be done, I guess.

About the focus, it was just an idea to gives us more support skills.

Thieves and their restricted weaponry.

in Thief

Posted by: Aethyl.7519

Aethyl.7519

Hello fellow thieves,

That’s something that always bothered me when playing my thief, when comparing it to most of the classes, we really lack variety when it comes to weapon selection.

Some other classes also get a few weapon sets, engineers and elementalists for example, but this is compensated by their ability to swap kits / switch attunements (even if I think the engineer could maybe use one more weapon, but well, another debate.)

Right now, we have :

Main-hand : sword / dagger / pistol
Off-hand : pistol / dagger
Two hands : shortbow

I know we are supposed to have the “duel wielding” ability, but it still feels underwhelming to me.

So, here is a simple question, do you think we could use maybe one or two more weapons in our actual selection, or do you think that it’s fine as it is right now?

Longbow / Rifle for single target ranged abilities.
Off-hand sword.
Off-hand focus? Giving us some supportives abilities, focusing on the ‘shadow & smoke mage’ aspect of the thief?

Remove Stealth

in Thief

Posted by: Aethyl.7519

Aethyl.7519

As a thief I… Actually miss my stealthless assassin from the original Guild Wars. It felt way more challenging and fun that way.

Hexes, enchantments, stances, customisables combos made the class really fun to me but it’s the problem here.

Since we can’t customise our skillbar anymore, no more hexes, enchantments, and considering we have a choice between a few utilities which anyway have ridiculously long cooldowns making them useless on shorter fights, Anet had to find a way to make the thief class viable with so few skills, and they chose to make him way too reliant on the stealth mechanic.

It really feels like a regression to me, but unless they give more possibilites to our thieves to survive, by giving them back their stances, hexes and enchantments, stealth will remain in the game.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Flashing_Blades
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Critical_Defenses
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shadow_Form_%28PvP%29

Those example are not meant to say that GW1 was way better when it comes to skills, even if I think that it’s the case, but to show how assassins could avoid the stealth mechanic in Guild Wars, while still having some utilities to survive.

So yeah, I would gladly trade my stealth against those kind of abilities but it will never happen, of course, and we are basically stuck with that boring invisible mechanic.

Restrict the duel requests to special area, city themed arena following the Bane exemple of the citadel, with the fighters in the center and spectators outside.

I also like to use a sword on PvE, even with the daggers being usually considered superior, and I totally understand why you are asking this.
In PvE, Shadow Return is not that useful, since it actually gimps your mobility, not allowing you to teleports between your multiple targets without interruption.

But it’s not meant to allow you to do that. As it stands now, the sword 2nd ability is the best engager / disengager from the Thief, even rooting your target in place.
In WvW / PvP, it’s a really interesting ability, allowing for the smoothest hit and run tactics.

So it can’t just be removed like that, or PvP / WvW Sword Thieves would be basically nerfed to ground in the process.

I don’t know how it may be done, maybe with a Trait totally changing the ability if you actually make that choice?

Lore-wise:

-Humans, since every class makes sense on a human. They are, as always, the opportunists of the game.
-Charrs. They are the most complete military force, and as such, they need spies and scouts. The Ash Legion fits that role perfectly.
-Sylvari, since they can be considered the nimble/elfish race of GW2. Also, Caithe is a thief.
-Asuras, because of their size and their cunning/intelligent temper.

Norn makes less sense, even if we get to see one during the Vigil personal story. We can even talk to him about his choice of career, showing that Norn Thieves are actually quite rares.

Look-wise:

-Humans : No problems, one of their cultural set is just made for them.
-Most of the Charr players will agree, it’s hard to get a good looking medium Charr, especialy if you are not into the trenchcoat/scoundrel style. The duelist can be interesting.
-Sylvari : Looking just fines, especially with a mix of the Cultural / Twilight Arbor.
-Asura : Most medium armors will look fine on Asura, and I personnally have a big crush for the Whisper one on them. (Agent Batanga <3)

Well, hope it helps.

8/10 – I really like the whole scheme/colors of the armor, it really fits her name, but unfortunately, the gloves really seem out of place here, at least for me. I would imagine plate/spiked gloves instead of those mails/scales one.

Anyway, here goes mine, Aethyl Rustblood, Blood Legion operative.
Got bored of the whole trenchcoat style when it comes to medium armor, and I wanted to give him a military vibe instead of the regular scoundrel / assassin look. Speaking of which, most original and best looking Charr in medium armor I have ever seen Pip, she looks absolutely gorgeous .

Awesome composition. Must be just me, but that one has a great feeling of Earthbending from avatar. 9/10

There goes my 2 little asuras.

My Mesmer, letting her minions’ army do all the dirty work, and my Guardian, giving some pirates a taste of their own medicine.

PS: The AI which your turrets lack is yours.

Wat? When my turret suddenly switch of target because a trash mob pop right next to it during a boss fight it’s my fault?

Also, the creator of this thread probably isn’t a computer, so I highly doubt the fact that he has any kind of Artificial Intelligence.

I still think that it would be appreciable to choose the target of our turrets, or to let them choose if we want so. It would just make them even more efficient, especially in PvE.

Dont you dare!

Well, that’s the model Arenanet chose for that game, and it’s quite a shame indeed, a needed shame I guess to not have any monthly payment, but still.

I miss the times where rewards were coming from the implemented gameplay instead of relying on a gambling system which anyway hates me.

I know I will never get one of those tickets to get a fused weapon skin in the BLC, and that’s why I didn’t bother to buy some keys to try.

Still hoping they will implement a free AND NOT RNG ticket at the very end of the Flame and Frost storyline, in maybe a big event like the one of the Karkas.

Hoping too much maybe.

Actually, I found that post quite funny, and as an Engineer lover, I agree on most of the points here, with some exceptions.

So first, the exceptions:

-Bombs are not meant to be as damaging as the grenades, but as better CC abilities which, when traited right, can support groups with minors but noticeable heals.

-Elixir/Elixir Guns don’t feel so out of place for me. As you said, it’s more alchemy that engineering, but the Engineer of GW2 is a mix of those two specialties. It also allows for even more variety, the big strength of the Engineer.

Then, about the notable points.

-Yes, the turrets still need adjusting. I like the idea of mobile turrets, but if it doesn’t get implemented, we should get something else in our toolbet for sure when they are deployed. Just a “blow them up” button is underwhelming and useless.
We should also be able to force them to attack a specific target instead of their totally random targetting system we have right now.
Turrets are interesting because they can bring supportive firepower to gunfights, but as it stands right now, it’s useless because they will always fire at the wrong target.
So give us a new toolbelt skill, in F5, “Fire at will”, focusing all your deployed turrets to one specific target, with maybe the increased fire rate you were talking about.

-Yes, our rifle feels a little underwhelming to me when compared to the Warrior’s one.
It may has good CC abilities, but still lack power and fluidity.
I may be wrong of course, but that’s my feeling about it, after having tested both.
Why the Gunner class gets the short end of the stick when using rifles is beyond my comprehension, when the Warrior can already use so many different weapons.

Also, the 2# ability of the pistol should not miss so much, just compares it to the “Volley” ability of the, once again, Warrior.
It just makes no sense to have a ranged ability requiring to be rubbing our pistol in the face of the enemy.

Another problem for me, which may only be personal, is the cooldown of the two shield skills, way too long for my tastes, even traited.

TLDR: The Engineer indeed still needs some improvements to finally be equal to other classes without having to rely on special builds like the HGH one, and be as versatile as they were supposed to be in the first place.

GW1 skill system vs GW2 skill system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Disclaimer:

In my opinion, GW2’s skill system is far too restrictive. The biggest issue is in the weapon system, because those are the skills you will be using the most in combat and there isn’t much room for experimentation there. The pool of skills to choose from is simply too small once you’ve committed to your race and profession at character creation.

The only thing GW2 does better than GW1 as far as the skill system goes is Traits. Traits are infinitely better than attribute points.

I don’t think Anet would overhaul their skill system this far into the game’s lifetime, but I might as well bring up my two cents and see what happens.

I couldn’t agree more with everything said here.

The big, enormous plus of Guild Wars 1 was the incredible variety of builds offered to the players, and it just got trashed and forgotten in Guild Wars 2.

5 skills by set of weapons, one healing skill, three ‘utility’ skills to choose from 22 differents, with cooldown so longs they barely make a difference, and a few elite skills, which for most of them are only elite in their name.

We are far far away from the hundred of possibilites coming in the first game.

I know, ’it’s easier to balance, more intuitive’, but it’s also ridiculously restrictive, when compared to the first one.

Yes, ‘traits’, but it’s just not the same, especially considering that traits just change the skills you already have, or give you some passives.

We need more skills, and especially more weapon skills.

Having the same 5 skills from the beginning of the game to the endgame just feels boring as hell.

For example, the assassin was my favorite class in the first Guild Wars, because of all the possibilites he had. And the thief in GW2 is nothing like that.

I tried him, but he just felt so boring and uninteresting compared to the assassin, that I finally chose an engineer.

Why? Because it’s one of the few classes to have more choices of set of low cooldown skills thanks to the kits.

The fact that the variety of GW1 was killed in the second one was and still is my biggest disappointement in this game.

What's your engineer's armor skin?

Here goes my heavy artificer. I wanted a functional, efficient armor.

Most of the set comes from SE of course, while the pant is the duelist one, and the boots being the part I am actually the most proud of, AKA tier 3 cultural.

I am actually glad that not all engineers are using the SE set, since it allows more diversity in our skins, and I saw alot of good ones back there.

Question to Guild Wars 1 players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aethyl.7519

Well, doubt they could lock this kind of subject as long as we remain civils about it.

Anyway, just passing by to give my thoughts on the subject, as much as I hate what I will be saying.

Yes, Guild Wars 2 was a huge disappointment for me, and yes, I just loved Guild Wars 1, it was actually my favorite online game of all time.

In fact, I didn’t really care about Prophecies, it was a good game, but I couldn’t find any class I was really fond of, since I have always been more of the thief/assassin kind of character. I was playing it for the novelty, and I actually enjoyed it alot, playing it for a while.

Then, Factions was released, and it was the beginning of my real adventure in Guild Wars. I just can’t recall the number of hours I passed on this game, during 2 or 3 years without growing bored of it.

So many skills, hundred of them, so many possibilities of unique builds, as ridiculous as they could be, an interesting pvp / gvg system which I didn’t play as much as I would have wanted, an interesting world with varied landscape (god, how I loved The Desolation) and interesting stories for each of the released expansions, all that served by an awesome community. That was my best online experience of all time, without a doubt.

Then, I heard that Guild Wars 2 was in project, and of course I was really impatient to get this new gem, especially when I knew we could incarnate Charrs! And I am there, already thinking to leave it, since I am just bored of it. And unlike Guild Wars 1, I don’t think the expansions could do something so I can be interested in it again.

The whole gameplay system just killed it for me, and this since the very beginning.

Yeah, it’s cool, we have 10 skills instead of 8 at the same time, but they are all already set as you have to use them: 5 of them are reserved for weapons skills, which are not switchable from the level 1 to the level 80, an aberration to me. We also have one healing skill, with only 3 possibilites, and 3 “utility” skills (coming from a small list as well), with cooldowns so long that they hardly make any difference in a game supposedly relying on the “action”. And finally, an elite skill (and no more capture sigil in the same time).

In Guild Wars 1, I could pass hours just sitting in front of my screen, thinking of the best strategy I could get with the hundred of skills from all professions that were offered to me, and I could never do that in this one.

Yeah I know… “Traits”, but it’s just not the same.
My level 80 Thief feel so boring when compared to my old lvl 20 Assassin.

And I am not even talking about the abandon of the Trinity of the first one, which made all the classes so interesting, competitives and indispensables in their own way.
It was a bold, unique and interesting move, for sure, but it didn’t work for me. I also forgot the fact that the economy is so messed up it’s ridiculous, the only way to make money being to play with the Auction House instead of actually playing the game, something I personally don’t enjoy at all.

Yeah, all that is just my opinion on the subject, I can understand why so many people like and even prefer this game to the first one, but it’s not my case.

Actually thinking to get back to my old forgotten characters.
