I think that’s what I am doing by getting rid of my account? lol
Can’t really have any more self control than that. Most people wouldn’t go this far. And believe me, I’ve thought this through.
Serious question. I keep coming back to this game only to waste time and sometimes money and end up disappointed. So I’ve decided, I need to quit PERMANENTLY and the only way to do that is to completely lose my account. I could go on and on about how bad the game is, what I wish ANet would’ve done instead of handling the game like they did like most quitters seem to, but that’s not what I want. I just want to never be tempted to come back to this game again. I tried deleting all my characters, that didn’t work I just started making new ones. I can’t give away my account because I’ve used the email for a lot of other things, so here I am left with one option.
So, what’s the best way to kitten off the Arenanet overlords?
@STIHL: Like I’ve said many times in this thread, I like sticking strictly to the lore (so names like plant names won’t work for me) and the vast majority of good name generator names that adhere to that, are unfortunately taken (for asura/sylvari anyways) and are generally… just not that good to begin with. I didn’t actually name my character Knox + a bunch of X’s btw… just to make that clear to people. I was just shocked when I saw how many other people DID. I have never seen that in an MMO in my 13 years of playing MMOs, not even in WoW.
While I appreciate you trying to help, the point of this thread is not to try and help me come up with better names but to actually discuss the naming system and ways to improve it in itself. I can easily think of names, whether those are names I want to actually use is a different story. Your post could have been summed up for the most part with just the last paragraph.
Edit: After seeing your sig, I wonder what possessed me to even post in these forums anyways. Because it’s so true lol (heck, look at my sig… I’m no exception)
(edited by Aguri.2896)
guess not everyone is as creative as the other.
Or maybe we just RP? lol
Also, I should have added this to my initial post but I didn’t want to make it too long: I am talking about removing names from people who have been gone literally so long they likely won’t even remember what their char name even was. Example: People who played for a week at release and literally never touched the game again. They probably never will come back and even if they do char name is likely not going to be something they even remember.
I would love these forums back but the reality is the player base just isn’t there to sustain them anymore. Towards the end just before they were removed hardly anyone posted and that was a long time ago, now it would probably be worse. I guess one solution would be to make charr threads in the lore subforum? I think it would fit that category, even if the post isn’t strictly about the game’s story as its still related to a race within the lore of the game.
@penelopehannibal: I avoid titles for asura because I don’t want my character to be permanently locked into a job or role. As an RPer I like my characters to have the ability to grow and change without having to fork over $10. Sylvari generally do not have titles with the exception being warden and members of the 3 orders, so nothing can really be done there if your character falls outside of those categories.
(edited by Aguri.2896)
I loved Neverwinter way of doing it: the name had to be unique only within your accout, meaning you could have only 1 character named Knoxx, but other players could have Knoxx as well.
I would love to see this feature and I think this probably would be a better solution than releasing character names, but I wonder if it would get confusing as people can pretty much already have the same acc name with the difference being the last 4 digits. One can dream I guess.
Since the game started over 10 years ago it’s always been this way. They do not and will not take any names away even if the person has not been in the game for years. They have said so several dozen times.
They also promised us a full set of legendaries with HoT.

Before you read: I’m not complaining that I can’t get MY specific name, just that naming is a headache in general. Just thought I’d clear that up as I’m not trying to be salty, but have a real discussion on the issue.
I’ve long thought this game had an issue with names. 2 out of the 5 races do not have surnames, which means if you want to fit the lore you pretty much aren’t going to as almost every conceivable name is taken. I tried to make do with it for a long while by simply spending days, sometimes weeks trying to come up with a name for a character. I thought anet had their reasons, as the game is supposed to be one you can pick up again if you’ve been away for some time, which is rare with MMOs and is one feature I like about this game. But today after being frustrated at not being able to find a surname for my human, I decided to see what would happen if I kept adding X’s to his name until I found a version that was available. While I understand this is a very common name, I can usually get away with Knoxx or Knoxxe in other MMOs. This is just absurd.
Anyways, discuss. Am I the only one who thinks naming in this game is ridiculous? Are you for or against the release of unused char names and/or do you have any better ideas to solve the naming issue?

Thanks thunderfall for a real response! If WvW is dead perhaps I will wait until the updates so I can enjoy it more. That’s good that it’s getting updates though.
@Gator and Fluffball: If I wasn’t asking for the opinions of others I wouldn’t have come to this forum in the first place. Kind of obvious that’s what I wanted by my post existing in the first place lol. Also, I uninstalled because I was quitting the game and didn’t want the ability to log back in and am hesitant to reinstall because I don’t want to be disappointed again. Not hard to figure out.
I was hoping to get some less salt opinions from people by posting in this forum, but maybe I should’ve just gone to reddit. I guess wanting to talk to people in an MMO is taboo now.
Thanks anyways.
GW2’s stories have never been serious. I don’t know why people are still surprised.
So I quit not too long after HoT released. Logged back in for SAB, then uninstalled. Thinking about reinstalling as there’s not much else in terms of MMOs atm. I’ll just cut to the chase:
1. Is thief/daredevil still horrendously bad?
2. What’s the current state of sPvP?
3. Is WvW still dead?
Yes. For starters you can actually see your target, even in a mob of people.
The way the combat works makes it more fun than GW2 PvP in my opinion because there is no messy tab targeting and it’s very skill based, if you are bad you will lose regardless of class. Balance is better than GW2 due to not having an overabundance of build diversity that just ends up negating most traits/skills, which is super important in PvP. Also, if you actually like fighting your opponent this game is better because there are 1v1 and 3v3 arena matches, no point capture or stronghold BS just plain and simple fighting. Then there’s open world PvP, no zerging BS or tower capture – you actually get to fight the enemy! Although for those who do like PvE in their PvP there are faction quests where your faction must defeat NPCs or bosses, so there’s something for everyone and you aren’t forced into doing anything you don’t want to do.
The only downside is you want to reach max level first and in the case of open world PvP gear up first. You don’t have to, its still possible to win if you are good enough but if you want an equal playing field you’ll want to. I guess WvW has that problem too though, so GW2 doesn’t beat it on that front either.
Skill based eh?
Tell me if you delete your lvl cap Assassin and remake a new Assasin that’s level 1 and you fight someone who is maxed level, who will win? If it’s skill based then naturally the winner with better skill execution and strategy should win but if you lose against a maxed level player because you are level 1 then it’s not skill based. Specially in PvP.In GW2 level doesn’t matter. Player’s skill execution and strategy does since everyone has access to everything and are boosted to level cap in the first place.
I don’t think we’re on the same page. I was referring to the fact that you actually have to learn your class, have knowledge of all the various skill combos and have the muscle memory to execute them as opposed to spamming just a few skills like in GW2 and some other mmos (some require no skill whatsoever… you just do a rotation). Also, the arena scales you up and balances stats so you CAN defeat an opponent higher level than you, although you wont have all your skills but that’s not very different from how Guild Wars 2 functions. Same goes for open world, you can kill people 10 levels above you if you know your stuff.
Unless this was changed recently, what people don’t seem to know is that new accounts in GW2 must first unlock all their skills on at least one character before all their skill slots are unlocked in PvP for their account and any other characters. Also, I would like to see you go into WvW on a level 2 char and fight a level 80. Just because a game has a leveling system in place does not mean it isn’t skill based. I was merely referring to fact that BnS focuses more heavily on player skill than most MMOs that allow you to be as lazy as you want and still win as long as you press your buttons in the right order (sometimes even if you don’t). GW2 also falls into the same category as BnS, although it has a much lower skill cap and I found myself using the same 5 skills most of the time (I did play a thief though, which is admittedly the worst on this front). GW2 also has more focus on build than BnS, which is why class balance is so awful and why skill isn’t as important here but rather your team comp. Don’t get me wrong though, build does still matter in BnS too but it’s not as huge of a difference.
Doesn’t matter how good of a thief I am, any other class at the same level and any meta build (which makes up too much of the PvP builds I see running around) will eat me for dinner if I try to be heroic and actually fight instead of decapping. Even if I win, I will have cost us too much time because my attacks aren’t potent enough or I have to work much harder than my opponent simply because their class. If my team doesn’t have a good comp, we might still lose even if everyone on the team is very skilled. I don’t know about others, but while I like my build/class to be an important factor I don’t want it to be so important that the match is largely decided before it even begins.
So, since BnS isn’t as reliant on class composition, building doesn’t make as huge of an impact as GW2 and your pool of skills is much larger and harder to execute, I will say it is indeed more skill based than GW2 and that was the point I was trying to make.

Is BnS PvP really that great? The “combos” and knocking people into the air looks cool and all that but what specifically makes it so much more fun and rewarding than Gw2 PvP?
Yes. For starters you can actually see your target, even in a mob of people.

Blade in Soul actually motivated me to finally uninstall GW2. The only reason I haven’t bothered to actually uninstall it yet is because I’ve been too busy playing Blade and Soul.
Though I doubt it will pull many others away as they are very different games with very different art (and that matters to some people.)
please, what am i doing wrong? do i really have to go back to SW trains?
Yes. Wouldn’t want you to have fun playing a video game, that would just be wrong.
Seriously, you really do… HoT maps will get you money but its nowhere near as good or reliable.
I would imagine since charr are a very practical society that generally doesn’t form strong bonds with partners that it would be more taboo for them. The charr were also very sexist in the past and sexism and homophobia seem to often show up together at least in human history, although I’m sure there are exceptions to that trend. Though if it can do the deed, then yes it can be gay so I’d say they exist but whether it’s accepted by charr society who knows.
Going in again because I’m vain and also like looking at other people’s characters.
Since EremiteAngel’s wasn’t rated I’ll rate it 8/10 for actually making a cool male sylvari (although I wish you would have put a screenshoot from the front as well because it’s hard to see much) and for Alin I give 10/10 for having a character too amazing to see with my mortal eyes.
Here’s my sylvari revenant:
(edited by Aguri.2896)
Gliding could trivialize things like the “not so secret” diving goggles achievement (if you could glide while transformed), maybe a few others but should’t change many
It won’t. There is a similar achievement in Verdant Brink and you can’t glide while using the goggles. And since most JP’s go up it’ll probably be fine.
Hmm… surprised I haven’t seen this thread til now.
It needs more color and the goth makeup doesn’t really go with the armor but overall looks okay. I’ll give it a 6/10.
Here is my aetherblade themed thief.
HoT is one of the only expansions to a game I actively play that made me play the game less.
HoT is the only expansion that has made me want to explore other mmos out there that I have been putting off for some time.
HoT was a bigger bust than even WoD imo. First few weeks were great, then I just logged in less and less. Not even sure why, just not really enjoying the expansion anymore.Raids suck with all the class unbalanced
What? in pvp it’s a bit unbalanced I give you that, but for raid any class are viable in raid maybe except for theif, unbalanced my cat.
I go on LFG and literally all I see is “lf zerk herald”. Balanced my kitten. Not to mention I do main a thief and he is my only character with ascended. Wouldn’t be so bad if I could play the game and get new ascended gear, but I am not stepping foot in the silverwastes again for as long as I live.
First ascended gear are ACCOUNT bond, so play other classes? It’s unbalanced because you saw group looking for zerk herald, lol what? So groups can’t look for classes they need anymore, omg such unbalance. Fact is there are viable build for every class except for thief in raid, if you are too blind to accept that. Then fine but don’t go on forum and talk cat.
Lol that’s not the only reason I was merely throwing that in there to make a point. Zerk isn’t that great for an engi, you should be running condi gear on those if you want to actually make use of yourself in raids. Ranger is just… eeeeeh. Sure I could change the stats on the gear, however, my hard work to have a set of zerk gear that I would use for things outside of raids would be wasted.
Some classes are too much a drop from the “viable” (putting in quotation marks because other people use this word to describe less than optimal.) Say I want to do condi dps on my thief, sure I could play it if I had the gear and was lucky to have a group that didn’t laugh in my face, but I would be better off just playing an engi because the difference in damage and utility is just far too great. This is only an example of one scenario where this happens, but this is not the only case of this.
HoT is one of the only expansions to a game I actively play that made me play the game less.

This is pretty much my experience only I know why (at least for me and some people I know). The fun game modes we all used to play prior to it have all been butchered and tossed out for a new, foundationally broken type of system (event farm maps with barely any content on them). Raids suck with all the class unbalance and PvP is a mess because of this. And the only way to make money is to play the most unfun thing imaginable and since you can’t earn gear by playing normally, well have fun in silverwaste hell.
So after that initial feeling of ooh shiny at the new maps and specs, I saw there was no game left. Especially for someone who likes dungeons and BALANCED raids like myself. Seeing GW2 win best expansion makes me wonder just how much MMORPG.com got paid.
edit: ESO won best MMO? Yeah that site isn’t reliable hahaha.

With all this F2P gemstore nonsense you’d think they’d at least be able to update the gemstore with decent items too like new hairstyles/faces, armor skins and outfits that don’t cost your first born child.
You know it’s sad when even the gemstore doesn’t have good content…
Let me just clarify again: I don’t mean the looks of the maps, I mean how fun they are to play game play wise. Personally I hate the look of fireheart rise, but the gameplay was one of the most fun experiences I have had map exploring in this game.
(edited by Aguri.2896)
So, I don’t think I have seen a thread on this yet so I decided to make one. I am curious what people’s favorite and least favorite maps in the game are, both HoT and base game in terms of fun and gameplay. Especially since the new maps differ so much from the old maps. So, post your favorite/least favorite maps (not including cities) below and lets see what people actually like.
Here are mine:
Favorite: Fireheart Rise
Lots to do and explore, fun hearts and events as icing on the cake and not the whole cake.
Least Favorite: Silverwastes
Grindfest, very little to do if you aren’t farming.
Thank so much anet! I feel… hope. Its a good feeling.
I’m pretty sure ALL thieves have wasted a steal CD at one point or another. Saying otherwise merely makes you a liar lol.
And do you know how often a warrior wastes his 100 blades?
Lets make that require a target next!
-1
I love this change. No more wasted steals.
Anet please leave this change exactly how it is.
If you were wasting steals its a l2p issue.
I knew this was a troll post the second I saw the title. Thief? Viable? Hahahahaha!
(edited by Aguri.2896)
Just like dungeons thieves are getting nerfed because anet can’t handle the fact they made a broken class. They just want people to stop playing it and forget about it.
+1
Now I can’t give people swiftness. Because support thieves really needed a nerf. Thanks anet.
100g won’t get you very far. You’ll need 500 in every craft that you want to use (which will cost more than 100g).Then, you have the 40-70g it takes to make each piece.
I wish I knew how to make fast gold anymore, but the only thing seems to be do silverwastes which at least in my opinion should be a form of torture.
Asura backpacks are fine. The only problem they might have is floating too far from the back, but if that wasn’t done it would literally be inside the larger body types so there is no way around that.
inb4 bank thieves get nerfed lol
It’s the eventual solution. With all the thief nerfs lately there has been an increase in people using them as bank mules, which means they have a use. That obviously cannot happen.
There was a twitter post saying there would be free items in the gem store this weekend. As for Black Friday… that’s mostly a U.S. thing, as any other country that does celebrate some form of Thanksgiving do so in a different day.
The items are there now… a single TP and an XP booster.
I wouldn’t want to play HoT in blues (and I do for some equipment…) but its probably not wrong overall. Skill can overcome a lot of average gear. I’m not advocating it since in this game I like to go as far as is most useful (exotic for me) but its doable.
I doubt you can do raids and high level fractals in blues and greens.
As title says. I was doing map complete in metrica province and for a good 15 minutes or more witnessed the strangest and most shocking map chat conversation I have seen.
People kept talking about how good the community was, how there was no elitism based on what gear you had, how you could play all content in the game with level 60-80 blues and greens just fine and that ascended wasn’t required. Oh and let’s not forget my personal favorite, that max gear in this game is easy to get. These people weren’t sarcastic either, they were very sincere.
It’s a little sad that seeing something like this shocks me, but it was such a huge contrast to what I experience myself in game and hear from everyone I know and of course, read on the glorious salt mine that this forum is. It really says something about the state of the game if this comes across as shocking because just a few years ago it all would have been true. I remember thinking it myself. I would say these people were new but at least one had a mentor tag which shows they at least have HoT and are level 80.
I am just amazed right now and just had to share this odd experience.
If there is a sale I really hope the bandit sniper outfit and glider are sold as SEPARATE items as one of the deals.
Please anet?
Was going to buy the outfit but since it’s bundled nope. This is really dirty and even more so than those stereotypical korean F2P MMOs.
Only if thief gets a good spec and/or tengu are playable.
@kaikalii, I am part of a guild that is planning on doing raids but since we’re also pretty casual I need to be able to pug it to get a feel of the encounter. I also have no desire to play a class that holds back my team in such a hardcore setting, which thief does.
Your complaining about complaining and I’m complaining about your complaining about the complaining on the forums.
Nobody complain about my complaining.
Well, just made an engi clone of my thief character. Looking forward to actually wanting to play and not just standing in LA and moping.
I have been a loyal thief for years now with 1.7k hours played. I’ve stuck through the bad, the good and horrendously bad. But it was not until yesterday that my spirits finally broke.
It was an average morning with my skype alight in orange. A friend had messaged me that venomshare thief is viable in raids. My heart jumped, I felt hope. Not only was I relieved that a lowly thief such as myself had a place in raids, I was excited at the thought that I could finally be the type of thief I always longed to be – a support thief. The thought of contributing to a fight in ways other than doing mediocre damage was silly to me moments before, but now my head was filled with so many possibilities.
Excited, I took to the forums only for that brief moment of bliss to be bursted down in seconds as if caught in the traps of a Dragonhunter. Fellow thieves were being still being kicked from raids, but why I wondered? What of the tale of the heroic venomshare pug that showered his squad in glorious CCs and condis, allowing them to win the fight? Was it all a lie? The more and more I read the more my hope died, like my chances of ever getting the legendary pistol HOPE it was all too out of reach.
Then I thought surely the damage isn’t that bad. Maybe I can still be viable, even if not optimal. But alas I discovered that if I were to begin the journey of the condi thief I would never be able to compete with the mighty engineer, the 20% damage loss was simply too great. But wait – I haven’t even tried a raid, how can I be such a fool to give up yet? I must push through! Feelings of fear then came over me as I began to wonder: would I be kicked too? What if I spent all the money required to make a set of viper or sinister ascended gear, only to never use it? That then lead me to a moment of realization… thief sucks kitten.
Now it is time to find a new path and begin a new journey. What path, I don’t know yet but at least I find peace in knowing whichever path I take will be much brighter than the last.
Signed,
A bored and frustrated ex-thief

We are having our first official RP event this Sunday! Woo! (that doesn’t mean we haven’t had some spontaneous RP though)
Also looking for people who might be interested in laid back raids!
It was nerfed so we can play how we want by being forced to do events.
Someone needs to make one with revenant/elite specs.
So, with all the gold nerfs to dungeons and fractals combined with the lowered value of t6 mats, how the heck are you supposed to earn money anymore in this game? Guild halls are requiring lots of mine and now I’ve run out and can’t for the life of me figure out a good way to earn more. Anyone have an ideas other than TP flipping? Is it STILL silverwastes?
