The Asura Almost Made GW2 a Sci-Fi Game

in Asura

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

This game doesn’t feel futuristic in the least bit. I perceive the asura as more magical and mysterious than sci-fi, though I do respect them as a technologically advanced race. People need to stop clinging to the typical Tolkien fantasy formula. Technology is not taboo in a fantasy setting and asura tech is heavily reliant on magic in the first place. If anything, asura tech reminds me of that movie Castle in the Sky and that didn’t really feel sci-fi despite the presence of technology.

Aggro control is not needed in a game where you could just use a knockdown, knockback, pull, blind, aegis, or heal skill.

It’s been a long time since they’ve released an armor set, yet they’ve released several outfits. This better not be the death of armor. One of my favorite things about GW2 was the customization, if they take that away it isn’t GW2 anymore.

Expansion or end of franchise?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aguri.2896

Honestly, I agree with the OP on this one. I am a loyal fan and supporter of GW2, and plan to stay that way for a while but I can’t deny the fact that even I have grown frustrated with the lack of content and the dwindling community. Guild Wars 2 has so much potential but for some reason most of the new content just feels… empty. Any game this age should have had a decent amount of content released by now, even free to play games. I worry that if they do not announce an expansion soon the reason for that will be they have already moved focus else ware.

GW2 needs something big, regardless of other games and their expansions. It’s time.

You could easily give reflection to engineers in the form of a utility force field or bubble, and the same for rangers as well. Lack of cleave, reflects, or mass group support is a problem that needs to be addressed.

What??? When I do fractals as my engi I’m used as a reflect slave for dredge and harpy. With 12 seconds of reflection or projectile block from toss elixir U and a 4 second reflect bubble per turret from Fortified Turrets trait, I can do a pretty darn good job blocking projectiles. On top of that, if I detonate all my turrets and use my shield #4 and big-o-bomb and I can spike heal or stack might. I can also stack stealth using the field from smoke bomb (which is great AoE blind by the way) This is all one build.

Rangers can stack 9 stacks of might, swiftness, and fury along with having spotter & frost spirit while having ally heals (amazing water field) and condi removals through the nose. They can also reflect by using one of their axe skills all in one build. The only one I’d say that needs work is necro, which pretty much lacks all of these things.

Both classes can do these things without significant DPS loss.

So please Anet, either nerf the warriors, eles and guardians who are supposedly so far above the rest of us, or buff everyone else up to par.

NO! Nerfing perfectly fine classes is not the way to do things. Not only are most of these classes in a good place ( eh, warrior could use a nerf or two.. because it’s that unbelievably OP) it will just make those people have to feel the pain of us lesser classes. What if poor ele’s get discriminated? Do you know how hard it is to play an ele? They deserve the rewards for their efforts and should not have that taken away. FGS is their thing, man. Most of the time it doesn’t even work because the rest of the team is kiting everything.

I agree with your last bit, they need to buff everyone else instead of nerfs.Though engi and ranger seem to be pretty good already, especially with the future update. It’s mostly a mentality issue, people just need to pay attention to what these classes have to offer when played correctly AND people need to play them correctly so people can notice in the first place.

Thief to Ranger

in Ranger

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

You can use a zerker ranger even now in PvE and WvW. In WvW it’s tricky, but I’ve seen it done. As Criminal said before, don’t decide based on one balance patch. The professions are always going to be changed around and will never stay the same. Best to play something you will love even in the dark times or get 1 of each class to level 80.

Though, as someone else with 1k hours on a thief I understand why you want to re-roll because right now thief is so horribly bad and it’s been this way for too long. I’m actually thinking of going the way of the ranger as well.

Venom Road Trip

in Thief

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

Venomous aura should be moved down to adept tier so it doesn’t hold people’s trait points hostage. That way venom thieves wouldn’t end up with one useless stealth related trait they will never use because all of their skills are venoms. Also, venoms with venom share currently do not work with the trait that recharges all skills of one type when you steal. If they would just fix that bug and make the Shadow Arts trait line more reasonable, venoms would easily be in a better place. Though, that doesn’t mean they will be in a good place yet.

Also, something I would really like to see at some point is a condi removal/stun breaker venom if they ever add new utility skills because right now venoms lack so much basic defensive utility it’s ridiculous.Venoms have potential to be decent ally support, something that thief desperately needs, I hope it doesn’t get ignored.

I was thinking about returning to my thief but after all these unnecessary nerfs I don’t think I would feel comfortable playing it. I’m just going to spend the whole time feeling guilty because I have no good utility (stealth doesn’t count as utility because allies always unstealth themselves).

I really hope they don’t nerf thief again. I would like to be able to play it again but it just feels so limited. Even ranger is better at the moment… Really wish they would fix venoms. Some traits don’t even work with venomous aura, not to mention the fact that venoms seem kind of useless aside from the might stacking (which would be 20 stacks per rotation instead of 10 if recharge on steal actually worked)

What about those of us that want lore-correct sylvari and asura names? It’s near impossible to get a lore-correct sylvari name these days since they have no surnames or titles, takes me hours sometimes weeks to come up with a name and for asura it’s safe to say no good names are left unless you want a title. I’ve had to resort to using names with double double letters like “Vymmii” for example and it’s pretty annoying. What happens when the day comes when even names like that are taken? Some of us don’t like being locked into a title, they limit character development and often sound bad.

Not really sure what to make of this since one page says “cultivated seed” and the other seems to call it “mysterious seedling” but it seems to me your at step 6. Maybe the plant food is still in your inventory and it automatically used the ley line infused clay pot first? Be very cautious when letting a child play MMOs. Let me tell you I played my first real MMO when I was 14 and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. There are people who seem harmless at first but once they earn your girls trust they will try to control her and isolate her. Short version of the story, I now have PTSD. If you let her play keep an eye on who she is with.

I know you were asking about the game itself but I felt like I should leave this out here because if something goes wrong it can be very damaging to a child. GW2 is a relatively safe game, but it doesn’t hurt to be careful.

Kicked from Fractals for playing what I enjoy

I never get kicked no matter what class I play because I follow one simple rule: If they melee, I melee and if they range, I range (unless it’s super easy to survive, then melee). They probably died do to their own incompetence but being within range for buffs and healing plus the cleave of a melee weapon would have benefited your team far more than a mostly single target ranged weapon. Use whatever class you like, I don’t care but think about encounters and how your choices may effect the team. It’s okay to use less efficient play styles when in a casual situation or easy dungeon, but at fractals level 49 chances are most people that even made it that far are hardcore and want to be as efficient as possible.

Suggestion* for (if) next patch pack

in Living World

Aguri.2896

These are the steps I take to make new characters:

-Make junk character
-Complete intro
-Get total makeover kit from bank
-Mess around with appearance options
-Take screenshots of all the settings I chose
-Put total makeover kit back in bank (hoping I don’t forget this part)
-Delete character
-Make new character with name that fits the appearance I want
-Go through the intro again
-Then to the bank
-Dig out the screenshots I took so I can choose the same settings
-Re-make appearance
-Then check all the settings to make sure they match screenshots
-Then check everything AGAIN
-Finally complete character

Because of this I’ve sort of stopped making new characters. I’ve only made 3 I’ve actually kept since they started adding new looks to makeover kits, one of which uses no exclusive options whatsoever. I really hope they give us the option to create characters with the looks we want right off the bat because this process is very awkward and time consuming.

Is tournament armor only from gsc tournament?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

Because tournaments only happen once in a blue moon and require you to not only be good at PvP, but for your team to be good at it too. Dungeons are always in the game and it usually only takes 10-30 minutes to complete a dungeon. You can also get dungeon armor through spamming hot joins in PvP if you really don’t want to do a dungeon.

And the very thing you quoted did make it sound like you will be able to get them in the future without joining Tournaments. So how is it any different?
Most dungeons does not take 10-30 minutes to complete, and even if they would it takes a rather high number in order to get a full set of armor.

And it was added to sPvP rather long after release, so why was it not unfair before that, but now that the things are specific for PvP it is super-unfair even before it is released?

If you do a speed run they do. Heck, most of the time you can go in with any random bunch of players and still come out in under 30 mins. It must be true because I can do 10 dungeons in 3 hours and I am not running with maxed out dps groups, nor am I maxed out either.

Back on topic though, it very much sounds like it is going to be from other tournaments. Even if they do add a reasonable method to obtain later, it’s making the game feel more exclusive and elitist and that’s unfair. Especially a game like GW2 which seems to be built around fairness and playing casually at your own pace. Most people throw their reflects up at the start of the fight rather than waiting for the attack they are supposed to be reflecting. I just want the chance to experience everything GW2 has to offer without having to worry about whether I can get into a team with people serious enough to take on the challenge.

To put it simply, it’s a video game not football and people need to stop making it out to be.

How is that any more unfair than forcing people to do dungeons in order to get dungeon armor for quite some time?

@Aguri.2896
It’s MMORPG where you create your own character and this is YOUR story. Do I really have to carry a disco-ball and wear Charr backpiece? This armor isn’t boring and don’t know what you’re talking about.

That’s the one of the points I was trying to make. I was just pointing out that just because this is what he prefers, it doesn’t mean it’s any better than what we have already as it’s a matter of taste. He doesn’t like what we have and what many other people like and I don’t like what he wants. At the same time though, I don’t want GW2 to lose it’s unique flare by adding things that don’t really fit the game aesthetic. It’s all a matter of my opinion, but it this doesn’t look like it belongs in GW2. We already have GW2’s version of Crusaders and those are part of the Vigil, they have their own armor and weapons so adding a “crusader” themed set just seems a little out of place to me.

Also, I don’t use disco-balls or charr backpieces either because they look ridiculous. That doesn’t mean we don’t have any cool weapons though. Take bolt for example, this weapon looks like it belongs in fantasy even though the blade isn’t that sharp and has a lightning theme to go with rather than something with no combat value like unicorns. Then look at all the other armor sets and weapon sets (minus SAB weapons) in the game and ignore legendaries and back pieces, not that bad really.

They better make a reasonable way to obtain this armor in-game or this will be very unfair to 99% of the playerbase. You can’t just take the time to develop an armor just to give to a handful of players. This is Mr. Sparkles all over again… Nobody likes exclusives except the microscopic portion of the player base that actually has the means to receive them.

One of the core parts of the game was that people wouldn’t be locked out of content because their gear isn’t good enough. Requiring AR to even play a zone would not be fair and would enrage a lot of people. At the moment fractals don’t even require AR to play because you can still do levels 1-9 without it.

Need help: Ranger, Thief or Engi?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

So, I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 maybe about a year and half now and have leveled all classes to 80 but I still haven’t decided on a main. I’ve decided to have three, one of each armor type but I cannot figure out which class to fill the medium armor slot.

I spent a large amount of time as thief but always wondered what it would be like to be an engineer, so I re-made my asura thief as an engineer (I don’t play my other engi because it’s not an asura). After hitting level 80 I can say it honestly doesn’t feel any better than thief does. Maybe that’s because medium armor classes get hate in all areas of the game, so I feel like I’m screwed no matter which one I choose. Now I’m trying to decide between trying again as a ranger, going back to thief or just staying an engi.

So I would like to know the experiences of people who have either a ranger, thief or engineer as main.

What things do you enjoy about your class? What things do you hate?

How do people respond to you in PvE, WvW and PvP?

Do you feel useful or useless in most situations?

Answers to any of these questions would be very helpful and much appreciated. Also, feel free to mention things I haven’t listed here because it all helps! I haven’t been able to enjoy the game for quite some time because I don’t want to get into end-game content without a main. I know I could always just use my ele or my guard, but it would be nice to have the trio complete.

No, no more of that junk in here! That is the only conent i have straigyt out disliked so far. Platform games belong on consoles. Play them there if u like, but dont bring it in here again!!! Its as much lore-breaking as can be!!!

Players don’t get to dictate what is lore and what is not. I see no reason to consider SAB lore-breaking. Asura invent stuff all the time and every now and then they make a huge technological breakthrough like this one. SAB is just progress. By this logic none of us should play GW2 because it is lore-breaking to reality. A world can’t possibly exist inside a box, no way! Also, GW2 already has jumping puzzles yet those are okay?

I want SAB back, even if it doesn’t receive any world updates right away. I love SAB as it’s own game, almost as much as I love GW2. Sure I won’t play it all the time, but I should be able to come back whenever I want and enjoy something that will only exist in our world a brief time. What's Life Like For a Thief Main?

Thief has a lot of misconceptions, but it’s actually a really well-rounded class. People always think it only has single target DPS, is unable to tank and is has no support but that’s not even remotely true. To sum it up, thief feels very powerful and well-rounded in PvE and can do a little of everything but feels completely useless if you are new to it due to it’s high difficulty. One of the things that makes it stand out is that a good thief always reaches it’s maximum potential while other classes have to rely on others to control the situation so they can do their stuff. Feels very limited in PvP and has to stay in it’s little niche, but what it does have is very powerful in the right hands. Overall, thief is very capable but if you play one don’t expect to be appreciated because nobody will notice or care. I re-rolled as an engi and I’m starting to regret it. I can’t handle another CoF P2 without my thief, I need that damage and those teleports! safasdgscadv pulls hair out and runs away screaming

Thieves have extremely high multi target DPS (S/P) and it’s even higher since they can teleport to their enemies. They also have extremely high ranged DPS (P/P #3 spam). They can tank too. With short bow you don’t even have to get hit, and with S/P you can heal yourself, evade and blind everything close to you. There are many options for party support, too. You can spam blind indefinitely, and if all your allies stack on you hardly anyone will get a scratch. You can also stack might through venoms and with strength rune you can maintain 11 stacks of might for 30 seconds every 36 seconds with hardly any load time and you are able to use it while running, makes it a little better than ele might stacking since you have time to stack before the fight starts and you even get a little fury. Also comes with a an ally heal if you choose not use it for might. Thieves also have spam able blast finishers (great when a ranger is in the party) and have a decent projectile block. One of thieves most lacking abilities is stealth, which has little use when your party members attack an enemy or run out of your Shadow Refuge.

PvP/WvW
Even though I played thief for over a year I didn’t touch PvP or WvW much so I’m not too educated here. They are good if you don’t want to worry about dying. Some builds are unkillable in the right hands and extremely good for solo roaming, they can also fight outnumbered really well (D/D or D/P with stealth), but I’m not sure they can do much else. Without stealth you can’t survive very long against players, it’s kind of disappointing.

Leveling post April patch / new characters

I’ve started leveling a new engi (going to be my 10th level 80 and 2nd engi, 1st character since the trait update) and I haven’t noticed any problem. I’ve ignored my traits, I only bothered to buy one (increase bomb attack radius) and the game feels pretty much the same. In power gear things die quickly, even if I just mindlessly spam my pistols. I really don’t understand how it is difficult or tedious and if I want a speed boost I will use my utility skills.

The only thing I don’t like is the fact that instead adding new tasks you have to complete in order to unlock traits they just re-used old content… and included map completion. It would have been much more fun and realistic if we had to talk to the trainer and then they would give us a task or maybe have us complete training missions of some sort.

It’s only natural that the elder dragons would want to take out the most influential race in Tyria first, we do control all the significant transportation after all. Just look how Mordremoth has taken a liking to our waypoint system.

In all seriousness though… Rata Sum is dangerously close to Mordremoth. It’s pretty much an all-you-can eat buffet just sitting there on his doorstep. And, another city bites the dust..

The dragons are here to defend us from the true threat to Tyria, the quaggans! They know the truth but we are too foolish to see it. The only reason they kill people is because those people are allies of the quaggans.

Unless you live in the game there should be no need to have an expansion’s worth of content all at once. I like the fact I can actually stop an enjoy it rather than racing to the finish line so I don’t get left behind everyone else. On top of that 2-3 days of 7-12 hours a day of play time to finish a single story line is not fun, it is work. As long as we get expansion level content as often as a normal game would I don’t care if it’s chopped up into little bits over the course of the year rather than released in bulk. Expansions are like watching Doctor Who. New season comes out, great. Season over “Darn, I gotta wait that long for the next one?”

Still, I do agree with the idea that people have lost interest. I almost did, but the initial game was so impressive I decided to stick around to see if they will improve the updates. LS2 is an improvement in so many ways, but this late in the game it might not be enough. Something might need to be done to retain public interest of the game. An expansion would help bring players back in, maybe even some new ones, for the hype factor and that shiny new game feeling that massive updates bring with them. Only loyal players like me will have the patience to stick around for the LS, other people need something bigger and flashier for the game to seem worthwhile. That said I still don’t think an expansion should replace LS content if the LS can deliver the same amount of permanent content, though that doesn’t mean I’m against an expansion ON TOP of the living story. sigh One can only dream…

The truth of this situation is you can’t please everyone. Some people like LS and others like expansions. But I think it’s safe to say something big needs to happen to bring back the people who didn’t like the LS.

Maybe instead of mounts we could have tonics with permanent swiftness and maybe some boost skills.

Character designs

I agree with the fact that we need less cutesy stuff (armor, faces and hair) for character customization, but I kinda like the fact the weapons and armor look so unique in this game. If it was all practical then it would look like every other fantasy MMO.

One thing that really disappoints me though is that Braham, Kasmeer, Marjory and Scarlet all had armor sets come with them. How come Rox and Taimi didn’t get any cool armor? I was so excited when I first heard of a new asura joining DE 2.0 because I thought they would bring some new asura armor with them. At the moment asura and charr don’t have that many armor options that actually look decent because everything is tailored to fit humans. I would like to see some new armor made specifically for them or at least the other armors made to fit so they don’t look so out of place.

The art and races in this game is so great but I feel like most of the time it gets ignored for Kasmeer-type characters. I’m not trying to bash this game’s character customization or design, because personally I still think it beats all other MMOs combined but I would like to be able to make some new asura characters that don’t look like baby dolls in mutated armor and some charr that don’t look totally out of place.

Commanders and Such

How about they give regular players the option to give good commanders medals instead? That way we can tell who’s serious and who’s just a tag junkie. More elements to PvP would be nice though, as long as it doesn’t give players unfair advantages over others. One thing this game should never deviate from is the fact that PvP requires skill more than stats.
