Pistol needed a buff. It was and still is bad because you lose out on so much utility. Sure, you can burst people down but they can do the same to you just as easily if not easier.

I am very happy for a thief buff for a change and look forward to running P/P and daredevil to see how it synergies this beta weekend.

Every class thinks that, but it doesn’t mean some of the classes that do frequently get nerfed into oblivion aren’t wrong about complaining. Try playing a thief, see how you like it when you can literally only do one thing and you’re not even good at doing that one thing anymore.

believe me, I know. I’m a thief.
But my point still stands, every class is always going to think they’re at a disadvantage against other classes.

Don’t know why you brought it up again because I never disagreed with you.

My post was from the point of view from both a PvPer and PvEr and it was mostly in reference to the fact that even though this game is a DPS fest you should still be able to make builds for other roles, but some classes literally only have the capability to build for one role (DPS). It’s not about who’s more mad that they lost a battle in PvP, it’s about the fact some classes just aren’t even finished. Nerfing that one role is just unfair.

head size

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aguri.2896

So I went in character creator and played around and it looks like the only races and genders whos head changes size depending on body type are the male and female asura, female charr and female norn. All other combinations are the same no matter which body you choose, although height does very. So whatever you experiencing is probably something different then what I mentioned.

Also, I agree with Paulytnz, screenshots would be helpful.

Aguri.2896

The likely scenario is that you have been choosing the leaner body types, all of which have tiny heads even for asura. It’s really annoying how body shape changes head size like that (for example large asura have ridiculously huge heads and skinny charr have almost nonexistent heads). I really wish head size would be normalized across all bodies, it makes no sense to have this variation.

Now you’re just being melodramatic. Thief is still competitive…just not in the way most of us would like.

Thief can be competitive but it really only has one use (which isn’t that great, I don’t wanna be just a capper/+1er), while other professions have multiple. It’s not really a matter of viability, it’s just that thief has no diversity. It’s also always had recycled animations, so no surprise the daredevil was the same.

Toxicity in the RP Community

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aguri.2896

For those who have been telling me to remain IC and to break it up in fewer sentences, I actually -did- do that. What I am talking about are OOC responses to IC actions, such as someone calling ME racist OOC for playing an asura. I am forming an RP guild with some friends, one which will be free of elitism, though. So hopefully that’ll make RP more enjoyable for me.

Just wanted to express the silliness that is elitism over pretend games. I actually get trash talked worse while RPing than PvP… which is really sad. Not sure whether I should feel better that I am not alone in experiencing this or laugh at the sheer stupidity of the situation.

Toxicity in the RP Community

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

So, this is something that has irked me for a long time about the community in this game. I transferred to TC about 2-ish years ago because I really wanted to join the RP community, as I love the races and the lore in this game too much not to RP, but despite that being almost 2 years ago I have barely done any RP at all. Why? Because of the community.

So lately I have been mustering up enough courage to actually attempt RP, despite the fact I am very nervous and have had a very bad experience with RPers in the past, which only reminded me why I never bothered with this community. The elitism amongst RPers is ridiculous! If you make so much as one mistake, even if you were polite and well written, they make no hesitation to insult you and be on their way. Now I am pretty new to RP and can be a little slow writing out my responses sometimes (being anxious doesn’t help) and may not know all the etiquette (although I did google it quite a bit) and there seems to be no tolerance for this.

In one situation today I had been RPing with someone for a few minutes and I was taking a bit to write my response (maybe about a minute and a half), before I could finish they made a rude comment and walked off. I tried to explain I was still typing, but they just greeted me with more rudeness with the added bonus of profanity. People like this are the reason why I am AFRAID to RP. They automatically assume everyone is a veteran, and if you aren’t you’re not welcome.

Another thing to note: these same people also have this idea that only they know the lore of the game, and that things like SAB and legendaries, among other things, do not belong despite them being part of the lore and having explanations behind their existence. A lot of RPers also have the tendency to take things very personally IC (my characters are nice and I still get kitten OOCLY for dumb things like my asura being a racist towards sylvari, despite the fact my asura is very nice to all races). All things combined creates for a very unpleasent experience.

How am I supposed to get any better and create a more enjoyable RP experience for others if I am constantly attacked when trying to do so? It doesn’t make sense that people are making such a big deal over something that is basically just pretend for adults. Am I just unlucky, or have other people had an experience like this when trying to enter the RP community?

5-10 reward..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

From my perspective this is no different from the reward structure that SAB or Halloween or other events with the exception that you don’t have to turn a large number of drop X into the currency the vendor will take first.

I remember SAB clearly. 250 baubles to make a bauble bubble, 50 bauble bubbles for a weapon skin or 20 for a mini. I spent an hour playing and got 30 baubles. I need 12,500 for a skin, 5,000 for a mini. Well back to normal adventuring.

Same with Halloween. Mini needed 12,000 candy corn and I can get only a handful at a time every hour. Stuff that, back to normal adventuring.

You must have been playing SAB wrong. It took me around 15 mins or less for 250 bauble bubbles, just memorize all the locations and farm them… Also, for the last Halloween event you could get hundreds of candy corn every several minutes not to mention you could buy them from the TP.

Both of those were reasonable (except the ghost dog mini, which was RNG) this is event just insanity… I might not even bother with it.

The etiquette of standing inside people

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aguri.2896

I play on the TC server and every now and then despite the megaserver I’ll get lumped in with the RP crowd, so I’ll generally avoid standing/walking through someone because they might in character it would likely ruin immersion for them (I know it would for me). I’d say outside of RP it doesn’t matter too much, but in towns with RPers maybe be a little mindful of it?

Back on topic, from an elitist to fellow elitists: listen to the OP it saves everyone trouble.

Like I said, it isn’t a perfect or even good system but it is the only thing we have because of anets stubbornness.

I agree with you. It’s unfortunate but true. But, I’d rather not see any way to actually judge people put into the game because of what it will do to the community. I have friends who do play casually and I don’t want them to be scared from the game. I find if I group with people I know or lable my parties correctly it does the trick and we need no such gear check.

Only 4 new armor sets (per armor type)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

Dont forget gw2 is not like other games .. we always keep getting new stuff !

Sure, sure. In 3 years, we got in game:

  • Illustrious armor (the ascended one)
  • Glorious armor (the PvP one) and its reskin, Glorious Hero
  • Carapace and its reskin, Luminescent
  • Hellfire armor
  • Radiant armor

Meanwhile, the Gem Store got:

  • Aetherblade armor
  • Primeval armor
  • Braham’s armor
  • Phalanx armor
  • Flamewrath armor
  • Zodiac armor
  • Rampart armor
  • And 24 (!!!) outfits

So yeah, we definitely keep getting stuff… In the Gem Store. We got even less armors in-game than in the Gem Store, and that’s considering how ArenaNet said they would focus the Gem Store in outfits, not in armors.

They made that statement after they started doing outfits. You can’t make their statement retroactive and then accuse them of lying.

in GW1 we had in one year more new armors in-game then we have gem store armor skins in GW2, in my eyes they have become extremely lazy.

In GW1, you had only humans to play as which is much different than what we have in GW2. More work is required to create GW2 armor than GW1 armor.

And this is why I firmly believe GW2 should have been human-only too. So much more that they could have done if that was the case.
Not only could we have had more armor – the story and lore could have been more cohesive. Alas – it was not to be.

I wouldn’t have even bothered to buy the game if it was human only. The humans look like barbie dolls that have achieved sentience. No thank you. If this is the cost for more races, than so be it but it would be nice to know if we were going to get more throughout the year.

Do you not have a 'main'?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aguri.2896

I like to think I have a main, but it doesn’t really feel like it. I always feel the need to switch characters depending on what I am doing. It also doesn’t help that I have done everything there is to do on my “main” and that it was so easy for me to do so. Normally I play just 1 or 2 characters in an MMO and see them as an extension of myself, but here all my characters are their own thing with their own personalities.

Never before have I seen an MMO that encourages playing multiple characters so much. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing though…

Aguri.2896

you forgot about the pre armor for the legendary armor. also, legendary / pre legendary armor is not launch stuff, takes a couple weeks before they make the first raid wing available, and longer after that for the next couple wings.

Most likely the pre armor will just be a less-glowy (assuming the legendary armor is glowy, because most things are) more rusty looking version of the legendary armor so I didn’t count it. I also did not know it wasn’t launch stuff, that’s a bummer…

Only 4 new armor sets (per armor type)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Aguri.2896

Aguri.2896

So I’ve counted 4 armor sets, assuming that’s per armor type, coming with HoT. It’s technically 12 sets, but since a single character can’t equip all of them it’s more like 4.
We have:
-2 armor sets from exploring maguuma
-1 set from guild hall rewards
-1 set of legendary armor with raids

If I left anything out let me know and I’ll edit my post, but so far what I am seeing is just not enough. I feel like we should be getting more than this with an expansion. I was looking forward to having new options finally with HoT, but chances are the 3 armors I will likely be able to use (because I probably won’t be able to get legendary) won’t fit my tastes.

Anyone else feel a little let down by this? Also question for the devs: will we be getting more armor sets with later updates, like how we are getting more legendary weapons?

fluffdragon, I always have effects LOD on and depth blur disabled. This issue I have has to do with just the way particle effects look in general. For example, you can set your enemies on fire completely obscuring what the enemy even looks like. That’s just a bad design choice. What we need are the particle effects themselves to be re-designed to be less cluttery and more streamlined in combination with a more extreme effect LOD (because it doesn’t do hardly anything atm) for those more crowded fights.

never said they need “boob windows”

all i want is a dress <.<

you can make a dress without cleaveage. but a dress none the less. which would be far better than a butler outfit.

and regardless, i want this on my female….but no? according to peoples argument an asura would have no problem wearing this.

so why not?

I am aware you didn’t mention boob windows. But the reality is if the asura get the female version of something and the human/norn/sylvari version has a boob window the asura will have it too. Asura look like CHILDREN and shouldn’t have such a thing on their outfits, not to mention it just looks really dumb. I’ll take the male/gender neutral outfits over this any day.

And yes the male outfit for the daydreamer finery is bad too, but there is something much creepier about the female version… probably because if the bottoms didn’t have this tinted underwear thing you’d see… things. Which is much worse.

And yes, while you CAN make an outfit that is appropriate that requires extra resources that Anet has been proven not to spend. I am just being realistic, chances are the extra effort won’t be put in to make the outfits look any good.

they can leave the current ones as is.

but i’d like to see them give us the female versions, even if they are in separate outfits i need to buy

i’m glad asuran female outfits aren’t cleaveage overkill like…well 95% of human female outfits.

but you can avoid cleaveage while making it feminine. (example the dress i linked)

Yes you can, but they likely won’t as evidenced by the past with pretty much all their outfits expect one (the new wedding outfit). That is the point I am trying to make and I am not gonna bother explaining it again.

Particle effects scale with the size of the enemy!!! Woohoo!!!! Use virtue of justice active on lupi, you’ll understand.

Riiight. Forgot about that. Telegraphs are probably our only hope then, since I doubt ANet would fool with re-designing all the particle effects. Simply reducing them wont cut it as one fireball is enough to obscure animations.

And dont play with close combat characters. I always play with ranged characters so That is another solution. If you play with close combat it will be harder.

I prefer melee and so do a lot of others. If someone has to not use certain play styles because of the graphics, then I think the game is broken…

Also something to note is that I’ve been playing GW2 for over 2 years with over 5k hours logged in. My eyeballs would have gotten used to it by now if that was ever a possibility for me… sigh

Larger enemies would definitely help as well as the ability to see/control aggro, so I agree with you on those points but I disagree with what you said about not being punished to harshly. Some classes do get punished pretty badly if they get hit, like in high level fractals for example. Try thief on cliff side and you’ll see what I mean (1 shot can kill).

Even in easy encounters, it’s just not fun to look at all the clutter, you know?

(decided to completely rewrite my post because it was too long before)

So, this is a problem GW2 has had for a long time but I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t take it anymore. In such an action focused game that requires players to react quickly in battle in order to evade/survive attacks, it’s pretty ridiculous that it’s so hard to actually see the attacks we are supposed to be avoiding.

Not only is this game overrun with particle effects that are not only offensive to the eyeballs but obscure the enemies attacks (and sometimes entire enemies, making the player unaware they are even there) animations in general seem to have a lack of tells or inconsistent/ambiguous animations that confuse the player more than give them insight to exactly how the bad guy is going to bash their face in.

This isn’t so much a problem in PvP as it is in PvE, since a lot of effort has been put into player animations and they generally make sense (particle effects still need to go). Lots of enemies have confusing attacks, that either appear to be something totally different than it actually is or have no tell at all. For example, the final boss of the cliffside fractal can simply swing his hammer and hit enemies at range – even though it is just a hammer swing with no additional effects, even if you are twice his arms length away you will still get hit. Then there is the champion icebrood wolf for CoE explorable who has a very high damage attack with NO tell at all.

The lack of telegraphs in 90% of content forces the players to rely on the visual information from the animations to survive, information that is not correct. That means some players (depending on the playstyle) won’t be able to do some content reliably without help if they aren’t familiar with the encounter. Which kills a lot of the fun for me, I should be able to take what I’ve learned elseware in the game and apply it to new encounters but since I have no idea what to expect from my enemy it feels more like the game is just punishing me.

I wish I could do more endgame content, like soloing dungeons or PvPing more often but most of the time I just don’t want to deal with it. I think this really needs to be fixed for such an amazing combat system to really shine. Am I just part of a small percentage that have this problem or are others experiencing this?

Request for Female Asura Outfits

This topic is getting worse than the mount threads…

Asura are not humans and do not define gender the same way and what you call female, they might not. They also do not have boobs and shouldn’t be given outfits with boob windows, yet they are. Also, try wearing the daydreamer’s finery and not feel like a pedo…. I’d like them to stick to the non-sexualized stuff please.

I sat here and really tried to think of a favorite character and couldn’t. The characters in GW2 are very bland and uninteresting…

Possible solution for Character Naming

I would really like to see this. For those of us who want lore correct names it is nearly impossible to create sylvari or asura characters due to the fact every name is taken and this would finally allow people to do so. And no I wont simply use a title because I can’t take characters with titles seriously.

Female Asura armor

Armor is armor. It’s not meant to fit someone’s stylistic choices, it’s meant to be used for combat. Not to mention how unfair that would be if light armor was the only one with this feature. Personally, I don’t think ANet should waste their development resources changing an already pretty good armor system they just need to make new armor and I mean armor not dresses.

Except that this is a game and that the visual representation of the armor has no relation to it’s protection.

In fact, heavy armor barely protects more than cloth armor in GW2. Most of the tankiness comes from the armor enchants part in the form of “toughness”. So you just have to admit that in GW2, armor protection mostly comes from the magic enchants and not from the base physical materials.

One could argue that armor that doesn’t really protect also serves functionality still. For example, my charr warrior has nothing but a strap for a chest piece but I could make the argument he does that for mobility over protection. Anyways, this is a bit off topic of what I was trying to say.

Female asura and charr have the exact same anatomy as the males (they both do have mammaries but they are so tiny it doesn’t matter), there is no reason for there to be a difference in their armor and they have no cultural reasons for distinguishing the females from the males either. Even if they did, it would be absurd for the place for this cultural gender different to show to be armor – something meant to serve a practical purpose. We humans don’t even show our gender differences in what our soldiers (using this an an example since the armor wearing days are sort of in the past) wear either, imagine how female soldiers would feel if they had to wear a skirt to war? I feel like I am repeating myself here, but the point doesn’t seem to be getting across.

I understand this is a game and the end game is almost entirely aesthetics, and that we should be able to make our characters look ridiculous if we want but at the same time I don’t think it makes any sense for races to wear armor made for someone with melons when they have none. I can’t even wear the feminine outfits on my female asura because they have things like boob windows and are trying to show off a childlike body in a sexual way… it’s extremely awkward.

To me, this argument is absurd. If we are going to ask for our female asura to be able to wear more feminine armor how about the males too because it would look just as good on them.

Female Asura armor

The day they start making female asura armors more feminine is the day I delete my ele of over 1k hours played. The reason I play asura and charr is because they handle gender differently. Through these races (and sometimes even sylvari) Anet gives people who want a more gender neutral look the option to have that, which is really rare in MMOs and really cool that we have that freedom here.

So far some feminine outfits have been added and it should stay within outfits only (and pls be reasonable about it I can’t wear Daydreamer’s Finery without feeling like a creep). The fact is if this were the real world ARMOR of all things would not be gendered, except for those with chests that may require it but asura and charr do not have such chests and their armor would look exactly like the male counterpart.

Thats kind of ironic since Caster classes generally don’t front line, and tend to wear lighter clothing for ease of movement. This concept downplays the importance of ‘’everyone needs armor", as back liners only really need “practical protection” against light projectiles. This leaves a lot more room for stylistic decisions then other roles, as you’re the last person expected to take damage in a fight. This concept doesn’t flip until you get into range heavy fights, and everyone is vulnerable by default.

While have nothing against gender subdued designs in general, limiting to only that in a game which relies heavily on cosmetics is counter intuitive in every way possible.
