I think if they bring back healing bombs it shouldn’t be in the explosives line. It should be in the inventions line that already have a lot of support oriented traits. Replace that silly auto bomb dispenser with healing bombs please.

Hmm, all my builds require grenades. I wish they woulda have just taken out the penetration component of it and left everything else as is rather than disabling it altogether. Oh well, I needed to go finish witcher 2 and 3 anyways so maybe it’ll be fixed by then.

While you’re at it can you also replace glass cannon with heal bombs? Or at least find some way to fit heal bombs back in? That was one of my favorite traits in hotjoin pvp. Bunker for days.

So I was just in PvP for the first time in ages when I encountered what seemed to be an unkillable engineer. He/she seemed to have a necro friend that was providing some kind of passive boon that prevented health loss when downed. It seems they kept reviving every time I completed a stomp animation on them? Didn’t see any Elixir R field or anything. This particular Engineer was downed 3 times around 2 minutes or so. Is this a bug or some new build or what?

Not necissarily a combat animation, or even a single animation, but tapping left and right strafe keys while having heavy weapons or kits equipped produces a funny little dance animation for Asura’s. If you time it just right it looks like a single fluid dance animation.

Works especially great with boombox.

Yeah, this was pretty infuriating. I had to use a turret build, I feel so dirty. What’s more, the rock elemental at the end spammed reflects which rendered me even more useless.

I don’t know about flying, but it would be wicked cool if you could aim rocket boots like rifle 5. It should be the same distance every time, but maybe give it a direction 360 degree directional aim reticle so you could do things like rocket boot backwards and side to side. And perhaps even something to indicate the approximate landing location – that would be freaking amazing for jumping puzzles and because you’re just specifying a general direction as opposed to exact coordinate with the aim reticle you can still do things like rocket boot from cliffs over a chasm to a lower ledge below.

Imagine you see a warrior greatsword rushing you. You rocket boot backwards while still facing the warrior, and as they close the distance with GS you immediately use overcharged shot after landing. That would be so freaking awesome! Or maybe a similar scenario, but upon landing immediately switching to Elxir Gun and dropping an acid bomb to move back even further! Both of these things can currently be achieved with the existing system, but it’s extremely clunky.

Engineers can't use kits in Caith flash backs

When transformed into a Sylvari in a party for one of the new LS instances, Engineers can put kits on their bars, but can’t actually equip them. This makes the last mission pretty tricky, as you’re basically forced to spam range skills from pistol / rifle against reflect spamming earth elemental mobs.

Other players can use their respective classes skills / utilities. Without kits Engineers are basically useless.

I was trying a different build for a while using Kite Refinement and I was amazed at all the Engineers asking me what skills I kept using that was CCing them. Magnet bomb is pretty amazing, as is the reflect on medkit (though, a little on the short side, but understable given the low C/D on KR). Everything else though… meh. It’s only viable on fringe builds that use bombs and medkits like Bunker Engineer, but even then, equipping other kits can ruin it completely and you don’t always have the luxury of choice depending on the situation your in. I think KR has a lot of promise though, as bad as it is it’s one of my favorite skills at the moment. If it was given a bit of TLC I could definitely see myself using it in my playstyle.

How would I fix it? Well for starters, some of those affects have gotta go. For instance dropping a mine when equiping grenade kit makes zero sense.

Here’s a couple of ideas to get the ball rolling:

More often than not you’ll be using grenades from a distance anyways, a lot of good that mines going to do you. These effects needs to have more synergy with the kit you’re using. I might add an effect like an additional grenade on the first throw for instance.

Elixir Gun’s glue trail should remove a condition or provide a random boon if there aren’t any conditions to remove.

The other ones I would leave as-is to prevent power creep.

I don’t think most Engineer’s hate them, but we tolerate them just because we know how to counter them. Other classes hate them a lot more than us for sure. I personally dislike turrets for the same reason that I dislike ranger pets and warrior signet and necro minions, it’s passive and doesn’t require much work from the player.

Even if you’re playing incredibly smart with turrets and placing them strategically and timing all your overcharges, most of the work is being relegated to an AI.

Do I want people to stop using turrets? Heck no, play however you want. If nothing else it’s a breath of fresh fighting something that’s isn’t a cut and paste meta build that you’ll see on 9/10 engineers. If I don’t like it then I don’t have to play it, simple as that.

It also depends and your definition of a turret engineer. IMO, if a player is running at least one kit then they’re not really forsaking our class.

Anybody using the sinister set?

I’ve been using Assasin’s and Berserker’s for a while now, and in both cases I’m always rocking grenadier with grenade kit in my builds. While I’m doing a bit of condition damage it’s pretty negligible, I feel a set like sinister might give me a bit more bang for my buck.

Has anybody used this set to any success? Does the condition damage increase offset the ferocity damage reduction? Assume we’re talking about a personal damage output perspective.

I honestly just want an elite signit and a good ol’ buff to the glyph of elemental prefered buff method is three fold the elementals stick around as long as they are alive just like necro minions its only fair its not that powerful like really not that powerful at all. and two give the poor thing some vit and toughness in WvW a havoc squad of 5 will kill it on accident no focusing required. finally make their skills ground targetable with the exception of the stun which is clearly meant to be targeted at your current target

An an Engineer, I use the Ele elite as a reverse stealth tactic. I pop my tornado and maybee get a single knockback in, and then immediately drop it and use a skill like overcharged shot. It takes a second for the dust to settle (literally) after you drop the elite and it’s really hard to tell what animation the player is going to use next, and of course the element of surprise as nobody really expects you to drop tornado several seconds into it.

But engis are relevant in the PvE meta? Vuln stacking, now that FGS was nerfed Eles can’t vuln stack anywhere near as well as us.

lakdav — it’s not necessarily “re-artifying” the items, but optimizing art if an item is resized.

Sometimes players think that a miniature is simply a resized piece of art from the game, like a skritt or an NPC. But in fact each miniature involves some level of new or re-optimized art. I like to share details because I think that a lot of folks don’t realize how what looks like “a simple fix” really does involve more than it first appears.

Hi Gaile, might I suggest a unique icon (a la buff/condition/elementalist attunement) to indicate the currently selected kit. Grenade would be a grenade, bomb a bomb, flamethrower a flame, elixir gun a needle, and finally a toolkit for the wrench.

Was it effective?

It had great opening burst, probably the best I’ve seen on a thief. But after that he was rendered pretty useless for the duration of his haste cool down. In a couple instances he caught me off guard while I had my elixir s on C/D and was able to make quick work of me though.

I just remembered about this today, but a few days ago I was playing hotjoin and ran into a S/P thief running a really weird build.

Somehow he seemed to be getting off his entire pistol whip chain basically instantly against me. He was obviously using haste as he was only ever able to open with this attack, but I’ve used haste before with pistol whip and whatever he was hitting me with was only a fraction of the haste + pistol whip attack chain that I’ve seen.

It seemed like his pistol whip chain was somehow tacked onto his steal, as he was running the daze on steal trait and as soon as it went off all his pistol whip damage appeared in the combat log.

Is this some kind of trick I didn’t know about? Or was somebody using a lag switch or something? As far as I could, I didn’t seem to be lagging.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say Supply Crate = Turret engi. But I agree that supply crate 1v1 is really unfair, it’s such a strong elite. I run Elixir X these days to avoid the temptation.

IMO, you can run full turrets and not really be considered a “turret engi”. A true turret engi is somebody who sets up turrets on a point, sits there and spams 1 on his rifle all day while reaping all that sweet sweet passive damage.

Make sigils and runes unlockable...

At the beginning of the game I had zero interest in forging a legendary. That was up until they added the ability to switch the stats on said legendary, between Zerker, Soldier, Clerics, or whatever you wanted going into any given situation. This was a HUGE thing for me, as my inventory was cluttered to the brim with various weapons for different situations, armors, and trinkets. It wasn’t a solution to all my problems, but it definietly put a dent into it.

But then after I finally built my Predator I found out how gimmicky the ability to swap traits on it really was. Why? Because often times the sigil you have attached to your weapon dictate your play style. For instance, if your primary playstyle requires as much might stacking as possible you might pick sigil of Strength and maybe Sigil of Battle. A week down the round you decide to do some group PvE with a heal spec but then you have second thoughts when you realize your sigils are completely useless on a healing spec.

I really think Sigils and Runes should be made unlockable. Maybe introduce a new kind of weapon/armor binding type so it doesn’t inflate the prices of sigils are runes too much. For instance, adding a sigil to a weapon will unlock it permanently for only that weapon. Or if that isn’t good enough, make this would be something that only applies to legendaries. It would be like an additional set of upgrades that could be done to make a legendary weapon even better, e.g., throw the legendary into the mystic forge with a sigil of your choice and some accommodating items depending on the tier of rune you’re trying to imbue. Maybe unlocking all sigils on a legendary would add an additional animation to it or something. That would keep the achievement hunters/min-maxers busy for a while.

With the addition of the new wardrobe, I think the idea of having multiple sets of basically the same equipment with subtle differences is a thing of the past. Making sigls and runes unlockable in the same fashion as skins seems like the next logical step to me. I doubt anything I suggested above is the best possible solution, but I just wanted to lay out some ideas to get the discussion rolling.

I saw somebody post on how to do this as an Ele on reddit. So I took a crack at it on Engineer and thought I’d share here in case anybody likes to solo dungeons.

I forgot to hit record until after the 2nd burrow, and you can’t see the setup too good here but I attached a screenshot of where everything was placed.

Bombs were pretty terrible for this, the lizard guys soaked up most of the damage when they swarmed me. But I don’t think there were any better alternatives that allowed me to kite to the degree that I needed to.

The problem with your line of thinking, at least for the ranger, is that we are balanced fully around having our pet actively hitting the opponent. We do less damage across all our weapons than we would otherwise to balance out a pet that, as it is now, is very difficult to land a hit with.

Anet has specifically stated that the pet is suppose to make up 30% of our damage output. That means that said AI not hitting it’s target due to poor pathfinding and continuously stopping before attacking causes us to suffer a 30% DPS drop, which is pretty vital in a PVP scenario.

Simply put, if our pet can’t reach it’s target and hit reliably we as a ranger are only 70% of a profession, where as everyone else can function at 100% at all times.

If your pets gets even kittens in during a fight then it’s served it’s purpose. The problem with improving the pathfinding and speed of the pet means that your enemies will have a pet basically auto attacking them to death. There’s very little that player can do to counter both you and the pet at the same time.

It’s not like rangers are hitting like marshmellows. Aside from the recent rapid fire buff sure, they don’t have much in the way of burst. But they have pretty some sustained damage.

I think a better solution to the problem would be to give rangers more access to skills/traits that reduce enemy player mobility. That way they’ll actually need to work for it rather than a flat out passive buff to pets.

It’s just the flavor of the month. Once people get more used to it and glassy rangers start dropping like flies (even more so than they are already) it will fade out and 90% of the PvP population will go back to playing Guardians, Warriors and Turret Engis.

As an Engi main I totally agree about our class being face roll. But that only applies for IP, and turrets, and the stupidly OP elite. Granted all our other elites are terrible so you can’t really blame Engis for taking that.

It works by pulsing every 3 seconds (or something about that) which does an AOE launch to anything inside the tornado. It also shoot bolts of lightning out. The lightning bolts will pulse every second or so. Additional to this, you can select a specific effect of the tornado. Selecting the other two options will apply blind or (forgot the other option). The third, is the knockback debris. If you have this equipped, it pulses about every 3 seconds, and launches a big shiny thing out of the tornado at an enemy from ranged. If this hits, it will apply an additional knockback to the regular one.
I have found, that in every situation, I have preferred juggernaut as it is much mroe controllable, with access to devastating skills as well as having swiftness, which the tornado does not offer. In my opinion, this elixir will become very viable if the tornado is selectable for sitatuons where you need AOE knockback, or juggernaut from small brawls. Otherwise, 90% of the time I want juggernaut.

I agree, usually rampager is preferred, especially when I’m trying to stomp. Tornado is a godsend on skyhammer though.

So if I understand correct, the knockback only happens if they’re in the tornado but the skill 3 makes it ranged in addition?

I don’t understand this skill. It seems all skills have a knockback effect, yet the debris skill is supposed to be the only one to have a knockback. Can somebody explain this skill to me? In what situations should I be using what?

Anybody tested FT auto with skale venom yet? Is it decent at vuln stacking? I hear skale venom has no internal c/d.
