One is an annoyance, not only because of its frequency, but also because it is an immersion breaker (the golem). The regular character dialogues are simply overused – not immersion breaking and not intentionally annoying.

Verily, a stereotypical golem voice on a piece of equipment that clearly involves Asuran technology is immersion breaking.

Annoying? Certainly. Along with cries about Grape Justice, Grenth’s Spicy Embrace, and Summoning the Wins.

But immersion breaking, it is not.

Returning To Gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AngryCat.4825

AngryCat.4825

I haven’t played the game in a long time (pre lions arch changes) so I am pretty out of the loop.

Welcome to m’boat.

I am looking for a profession that most resembles traditional mage/caster gameplay. My first round on gw2 I tried out the ele but the d/d playstyle was just never very fun for me. What profession would you suggest for someone who traditionally plays casters (ex mage/spriest in wow, sorc in aion, bright wizard warhammer).

I’m not going to ask why, even though I really want to. Instead:

Staff ele. Make bad gear choices and fail to dodge, for the full traditional “caster” feel.

But it won’t be the same, because GW2 really doesn’t work that way. Still, you’ll be able to sit in the backline dropping fire on people if you really want to.

Is it something you can spend a moderate amount of time on or one of those things you might play for a while then wait for new content to be released?

In spite of not being a “sandbox” style game, GW2 has a bit of sandboxiness about it. If you find something to do/something you want to work toward, you can spend forever and several weeks playing GW2. If you don’t… You’ll get bored. On the plus side, with no subscription, you can leave and come back whenever.

One interesting change – the new season of Living Story has the installments replayable at any time. Only thing is, you need to log in and click a button to unlock them during the timeframe of their release. (Otherwise, you’ve got to pay gems to unlock the episodes.) So… If you do get bored, just swing by once every few weeks or so.

Also, Engineer: Mortar is completely useless. I can stand on a garrison wall and not be able to hit anything. Fix this. I like siege. I like being responsible instead of running straight to it and sitting there for hours. top 5 things you want in Gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AngryCat.4825

AngryCat.4825

1. More titles. Title hunting is what kept me playing GW1 for so long.

2. More armor. By and large, I hated GW1’s armor. By and large, GW2’s armor is far, far worse – probably because of the multiple classes sharing armor thing. The same bland stuff is spread around even more widely, leading to even less variety. At least – for all love – do something about medium armor. It’s pretty much the worst of the lot.

3. Airships in WvW. It needs to happen. I don’t even care if it’s a special map whereby I can’t drop troops directly into the courtyard of Stonemist.

4. Cantha.

5. Any future Elder Dragon fight to be similar (but mechanically improved, of course – more action, less clinging to a tower) to the Zhaitan fight. They’re freaking Elder Dragons. What are you going to do? Run up to them and poke them with your overpriced sparkly stick +1? And you’re not going to be instantly transmuted to a stain on the ground by way of being stepped on?

No, it should and did take a first-rate airship loaded stem to stern with overpowered mechanomagical cannons to destroy such a beast. Now prep the depth charges and man the submarines, it’s time to take out Bubbles already.

Headphones make all the difference

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AngryCat.4825

So I just bought a Turtle Beach headset for 60 dollars and I can gladly say that it was well worth it. I plugged them into my computer and started up Guild Wars, and oh. my. gosh. The sound was so amazing that I sat there stunned for a minute or two just listening to the sounds of the forest and the sound of the attacks/skills. This was a huge increase from my logitech headset that cost 45 dollars. What about you guys? What headsets do you prefer to use while playing Guild Wars 2 and why are they different from other headsets?

Audio-Technica ATH-AD700s, paired with an embarrassingly inexpensive Xonar DSX. Relatively inexpensive (as far as headphones approaching actual quality go); absurdly comfortable (I’ve worn them for twelve hours at a time before, barring bathroom breaks) and they completely slaughter the kitten that tends to get passed off as gaming headsets in the equivalent price range. (I’m in it for music more than gaming, anyhow.)

Seriously, though, hearing “The Seraph” through reasonably decent headphones made me fall in love with GW2 all over again.

Mic for Mumble/TS/etc. is provided by my trusty ol’ Logitech C910 webcam. :x

A Blast to the Past (GW1)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AngryCat.4825

Pre Searing Ascalon is probably the most beautiful thing my eyes have ever seen.

It was a perfect color blend of blue, yellow, orange and green (with the occasional marble color for buildings)

Not only was it that bright and shiny scene, but it had it’s smudges. The Catacombs is a big example. Another is the Wizard’s Folly mountain, with the mysterious tower. And it’s those smudges that made Pre Searing Ascalon perfect

I have never, ever seen such a place (in a game) in my life as beautiful as that.

Sadly, they tried to recreate the same setting in the Charr Homelands in EoTN, but it wasn’t as good (I thought it was a pretty bad extension, actually)

Came here to post pretty much this, exactly.

While I believe the Charr homelands weren’t without charm, they simply can’t compare. Still, I find it enchanting that if you tilt your head correctly, and let your eyes space out for a bit, certain parts of GW2’s Ascalonian lands rekindle the magic that was GW1.

….Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go log into GW1 and die horribly because I’m going to be mashing a non-existent dodge key. ;_;

To range is the act of wandering or roaming over a large area. Fantasy rangers are calls so because of their roaming and vagabond nature not because they use a ranged weapon. The most famous (and perhaps first) ranger wielded a greatsword. Perhaps the second most famous ranger wields 2 scimitars (though he sometimes has a bow)

As GW2 is a game with firearms, I submit to you that the second most famous ranger used pistols. The most famous ranger is clearly Chuck Norris.

Why Map Completion should not include WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AngryCat.4825

AngryCat.4825

1) It is a PvP area
2) There is no way to walk into WvW from other zones. You must use an Asura Gate.
3) All PvE exploration can be completed solo while WvW requires groups to take points.
4) If one team remains first for weeks, other teams will have a hard time taking their points to get the exploration.
5) WvW is separated from PvE just like PvP is but we are not required to get PoI in PvP

This is in no way me crying that it is to hard to get these points. I just think that having WvW required for a PvE achievement seems flawed.

1. No, it’s a series of WvW areas. If we make the ‘PvP’ distinction here, we also need to look at making all materials involved account bound – because at that level of technicality, the trading post falls under ‘PvP’. Undercutting? You’re in conflict with another player. Overcutting? The same.

2. Not sure how this is relevant. The better argument is listed below your post – the WvW zones are part of the Mists, and theoretically, not part of the actual world.

3. Visit scenic Orr on an elementalist during off-peak hours on a non-high-pve population server and tell me PvE exploration can be soloed. This is a lame duck argument; one can just as easily say, “Well, you can build your own siege and treb a wall – all of WvW exploration can be soloed.”

4. Yes. More on this later.

5. WvW is not separated from PvE in the same manner as sPvP and tPvP are.

Simply put, Legendaries are in no way, shape or form a ‘PvE achievement’.

That said, my own server was stuck in the Glicko ghetto not more than a few short weeks ago. Thankfully, we ruled the tier and I had no problems map completing WvW in a single evening. I have no doubt, however, that when we finally got moved up a tier, our noble opponents cut short their farewell celebrations and hopped into an EB that was finally not entirely green to do some long-awaited map completin’.

That’s terrible, and despite the fact that manual intervention from ANet unjammed the logs in our case, I’ve little doubt there are people who are still in a terrible situation, be it from static tiers, or individual playing times being non-conducive to WvW completion.

What’d replace map completion and badges of honor, though? Dungeon POIs seem like an obvious solution for map completion, but it’d be potentially a lot more painful for a lot more players, and certainly doesn’t follow the notion of soloing your way to success – which I don’t understand, because dungeon tokens are already a requirement, and you aren’t soloing those.

Dungeon tokens are the only thing I can think of for replacing the badges – but they’re already a requirement. There’s fractal stuff, I suppose, but arguments against that can be made just as easily as arguments against WvW involvement. Laurels? Precursor nonsense timegates us enough, IMO.

Edit: I should note I’m not necessarily against removal of the WvW component. The less people who are only in the borderlands only for map completion, especially during peak hours, the better. :p
