there is so much drama on the forum i need to say this has nothing to do with any of anything any one else is talking about in the forum , as far as i can tell .
i’m in guilds only with people that play for fun .
we don’t care about meta , we don’t care if it take 10 years to get some title or a year and a half to un lock something .
we have our whole lives to enjoy doing it , and we want to have fun with it .
the more fun we have the more we know we are doing it right .
the forums are full of loud fingered social activists . i recommend to the new players I meet in the game to avoid the forums . if they need help it is so much better to ask in the game . all they will read here is how awful everything is .
i will continue to qualify my statements by saying no one i know is upset about any amount of collection or hero point requirements and most likely the majority of people don’t care or know that it was changed ….
i will take some of the forums hot air and fill a big balloon with it and attach this picture . i’ll let it fly into the forums maybe some will see it . i don’t know that many will understand or get it in the current general environment of these forums . . . because its not negative .
it is the message box and some guilds members reactions to some fun in the jungle .
i thought it was a pretty good summary of the over all reactions to HoT of the people i know .

I felt exactly the same. Had lots of fun, played 3 days with a bit of sleep. Had a blast. Then on Monday, I entered the forum and was like NERF!, RIPOFF!, GREEDY COMPANY!, CASUALS GOT SHAFTED!, 400HP!!!!!!!!!!! etc.
Game forums are so toxic and people will complain about everything…
Where were you people when everyone was raving about Destiny or Assassin’s Creed: Unity? Or Rage? You were silent then. because people had complaints. And legitimate ones. None of those games were worth the $60 price tag and people were very vocal about it. But no one called those “works of art”. Just terrible games. It’s criticism game designers unfortunately come across.
Of course, I’m not saying “OMG your game suckslol” is the proper response, but if people feel it’s not worth $50, it’s not worth $50. Try harder or drop the price. But if the entire point of this thread is “People should stop being pricks” then yes, you’re right. But the most common argument you’ll see here is “Companies shouldn’t overcharge us/rip us off” and I’m afraid this time I’ll be inclined to agree.
They have absolutely NO IDEA what this will be like. People are kittening for nothing. They think they should get things free…why…just because. Hello, the devs need to feed their families too. Moan about the price, moan about them giving the core game free, moan about the supposed lack of content for the price. No one knows what content it’s going to contain except the obvious. Software development isn’t cheap. People need to Get Over It. And yes I am a Beta vet.

This article sums up basically everything there is about this whole fiasco and everyone should read it.
http://www.killtenrats.com/2015/06/18/gw2-lash-and-love/
They’ve worked kitten this expansion. It’s their life. What they put their hard work and passion into. Some of you think they’re just greedy dirtbags that want to screw you over…why? Have you ever created a work of art? A painting? A musical piece? A game? A story?
How would you feel if when you announced that it was ready for purchase, people spat on it. People lashed out at you on not only your official accounts, but your personal ones to.
How would you feel if your hard work and what you’ve dedicated a year or two to, was ridiculed and hated before it was even released?
You don’t want to pay the full price for the pre-order?
Don’t. That is your choice. But they owe you NOTHING.
But being complete jerks about all of this is revolting and reflects poorly on us as a community. And think of the devs. They have feelings too. And I’m sure many are upset right now. This may just be an expansion to you, but it’s much more than that to them.
Arenanet, thank you for all you have done. For putting the time and effort into giving us an amazing series of games that only get better as time goes on. I’ve been looking forward to HoT since it was announced and cannot wait.
Keep the amazing work
Ok so I know this might seem trivial to some but I felt like this was note worthy. I was having issues with my account because the old email I used hasn’t been logged into in ages and so I couldn’t get there if I need to do network authentication. So I sent in a ticket to support and told them the email I needed it changed to, And no joke it was proccessed and taken care of within 5 minutes. I’m just a bit taken back by the sheer speed they had in handling this for me so big props to GW2 support on this one.
Have people seen all these ridiculous looking frogs that runs (jumps?) around in the real world?
I believe Teq can fly
I believe it can touch the sky
I try to kill it every night and day
I hope he doesn’t fly away
I believe he can soar
I see us running from his fearful roar
I believe Teq can fly
I believe Teq can fly
I believe Teq can fly
Applying real earth logic to an undead flying creature in a fantasy setting of a different universe.
Strong arguments there.

It’s just a beta. It’s not a big deal.
OK, seriously.
Worst case scenario here is that my now 400 out of 465 skill point characters I’ve leveled purely on scrolls or crafting will now have to spend, I dunno, maybe 3 hours tops? wandering around the landscape in their full exotic gear and their main spec that they’ll casually be able to afford with those 400 points, blow up some heroic challenges (many of which are no more complicated than port to nearest way point, walk over, and wave your hand at the shiny for 3 seconds…), and call it good until the next major revamp.
And heck, the second and third and fifth and fourteenth of my 80s will each do it that much faster as I nail down a speed-loop.
I have 19 character slots and this is still a footnote.
If you’re really feeling threatened, go start now. You have months to get ahead of this still.
You kids have no idea what grinding is. I feel sorry for you, you’re spoiled.

Nope. I see Legendaries everywhere. What makes having a credit card prestigious?
wonderful, GW2 is even worse than any other MMORPG when it comes down to forum attitude. Now you even have to imagine how you will be disappointed by something new and still unknown to you? Oh man, I really pity the devs around here.
What OP is asking for is the usual upright beast races with the females having breasts and wearing a bikini top, even if they are reptiles.
“too much realism is not needed in games… "
lol. How about no realism at all? How is that better.
LMAO! why does a lizard have mammal breast??
Ummm…what? Do you understand how mammalian anatomy works?
The hunched posture is necessary for a species that both runs on all fours and bipedally. Their bipedal stance allows them to manipulate tools and everything else, but their skull can’t mount on the neck in two different manners (for bipedal and quadrupedal stances). If you don’t believe me, lower yourself onto all fours and look straight ahead or even up. While moving. You will probably hurt yourself. This is why the charr spine inserts into the skull at the back instead of the bottom like with humans. Because it inserts in this manner, their bipedal stance needs to accommodate it, hence the hunched posture.
If anything, the charr posture makes them much more beastial than any other “beast” race in a game.

People disliked it because it was content delivered in small pieces rather than something big at one time. Like lets say an expansion.
But then again now people complain about not getting stuff every two weeks while we wait for the expansions.
Simply goes to show that people will complain about whatever system of delivery is currently used.
as far as FF14 goes. I imagine they were working on those features before the game even released. And the reason it wasn’t released with the proper is either A. A marketing decision in the hopes of getting people to mention it in exactly the way you just did.
Or B. A practicality issue. The features werent ready by the inteded release date.
Second. Your right in that it being a subscription game impacts how much content they release and how quickly. But in more than the way you think it does. Namely they HAVE to release content that quickly. They don’t have a choice in the matter. Subscription Fees are a double edged sword. If you expect someone to eventually pay 2-3-4 or even 5+ times the box value of the game you have to justify that cost. One of the reasons many people like gw2 is you can actually set the game down when there isn’t large amounts of content you havnt done yet and eventually come back and do it…for free. This “THEORETICALLY” allows them to take the time to make sure what features they DO add are added in the way they need them to be. This expansion I believe is a big example of that.
Third. I have seen no indication that this expac wont be epic. I also havnt seen more than the normal advertisements in support of the idea that it WILL be epic. I will wait until more of the features are explained in full before making my judgement on that. As I feel so should most of us.
However. And most importantly I agree with you 100% on your last line. Im fully HOPING this is as epic as it SHOULD be. Or atleast paves the way to something equally epic. Im hoping my jaw will drop at some point by the end of this road.
I disagree. Exploration is something I enjoy. Plus it rewards XP and freebies once an area is completed. Make it account-wide and I lose a big “to-do” item for the rest of my characters.
Have you ever thought that maybe many of us could not “Just. Log. In.” as if it were that simple?
No. You know why? Because it’s a silly assumption. You get free stuff if you log in, stuff which has to be paid if you want it later.
And it is that simple. Logging in within the timeframe literally takes 1 minute.
Let me give you an example, assuming you did not indeed have the time for whatever reason, which is not altogether impossible but incredibly unlikely (like, astronaut or undercover agent, or ISIS prisoner, or something along those lines). Your favorite band comes to town. You hear about it and decide you are definitely going. The tickets are 100$ for the first week after being put to sale, then they become 150$. You don’t have the money then so you do not buy one, even though the consequence was made abundantly clear. The time passes and now you find youself having to pay 150$ if you want to attend their concert. Do you then go and complain that you were somehow wronged? Do you truly not understand how limited-time offers work? Or is the entitlement that strong that any sane judgment is only secondary?

Ah, another one of these threads.
For season 2, ANet sent e-mails with full info every time a new release was out, including the info that you need to log in within the 2 weeks of that release to get it for free. Just to log in once, and that’s it. Not to play 24/7, not to even finish the content. Just. To. Log. In.
I’m sorry that you missed out, but things are as they are and I doubt they will back down on this given the situation. If you really want to try, send a ticket to Support and they will answer.
In the finite amount of time each day I’m will to sit around worrying… Guild Wars 2 gets pretty close to ZERO seconds assigned to it.
If you’re having fun with the game now, you will probably continue to have fun with the game when HoT hits. But the difference between it giving 15 hours of exploration vs 60 hours is still pretty meaningless after the third week or so.
I think the majority of the abuse you receive stems from the fact that you’re advertising yourself solely as a “gay friendly guild”
There’s no need to say you’re gay friendly, going by your message you’re practically stating “you’re different but we’ll accept you” that’s how i look at it anyway.
To put this into perspective, yes Gays aren’t a race, but, what if i were to make a guild and in the guild recruitment message put “Blackfriendly guild” you’d call me a racist and a prick, no?

D3 has an expansion much like GW2 will have. Expansions usually offer a vast amount of content hence why the sale of them is not a scam.
You don’t play WoW or D3 expecting to buy quests (That’s essentially what Anet is doing with GW2). If you look at the “Buy GW2” and view “What’s in GW2” You will see the mention of living world events which of course fails to mention that they cost money (Of course they do).
It really baffles me why people like to take it up the kitten from companies, you guys remind me facebook-type-game players that defend pay-to-win games. I don’t know whether to cry that people like that exist or laugh my kitten off.
You do of course realize that paying for it only unlocks the ability to host the instances and get achievement points. If you only care about experiencing the story/fights then you can join anyone’s group. It’s not like it checks to see if you’ve paid for it. You can join anybody’s party that has it unlocked. If you cared about achievement points in this game I can only imagine you would not have quit for long periods.
My wife has not unlocked any of the chapters except the last one and we’ve gone through all of them together. In fact our guild will host LS2 nights where we go through all of them for people who may not have been on to unlock it.
You can still access the content, my man. Just join someone’s group or find a solid guild.
I’m also disgusted by anet. I’ve missed 2 months from real life stuff and now I need to farm more mats for my legendary when i could have farmed it all. Now I hafta spend gold for those mats when anet should just give me those mats for free. I also missed a week of work for being sick and didn’t get paid. My boss owes me money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also didn’t play Diablo season 1, blizzard better give me a choice to play it or else ima go on a rant on these forums (FLIPS TABLE) AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
AFAIK only GW2 uses this format, so no, you don’t have to check 100+ games (I’m not debating if this is a good or bad format). Also, if you know that a company uses this format, and you think you might coming back to the game sometime in the future, keep an eye on the updates every now and then.
Anet specifically explained the format beforehand (2 weeks free etc).As for cashing in, again, you can buy it with ingame currency, so your point is not valid (at least, not entirely, I hope you can see it).
The pay once play forever applies to the core game, in the same way that buying D3 doesn’t get you access to the expansion part of the game. again, this has been already stated multiple times, they only thing you’re missing are the LS chapters (which you can play with a friend who has them unlocked) and the achievs. The maps are there for free.
It’s a bold statement to say that it’s the only game to use that format. You’ll have to provide solid evidence for this.
Secondly I did not know they used the format of scamming people. So there is your logic down the kittenter.
It is a cash-in thoguh isn’kitten Unless you have no life and only ever play games all day. Even then, time is money.
D3 has an expansion much like GW2 will have. Expansions usually offer a vast amount of content hence why the sale of them is not a scam.
You don’t play WoW or D3 expecting to buy quests (That’s essentially what Anet is doing with GW2). If you look at the “Buy GW2” and view “What’s in GW2” You will see the mention of living world events which of course fails to mention that they cost money (Of course they do).

you seem to be rather fond of theorizing about other players´ lifestyle and insulting them. Well, here is some of your own medicine: If your cool adult super fulfilled real life 12 hour shifts don´t bring you enough money to even pay these minimal prices, then maybe you have to work 14 hour shifts, even more real, eh? Or maybe look for some qualified job with a better income. Yours sincerly, an above average earning computer playing person with 8 hour shifts and plenty of pastime activities in his life.
What never ceases to amaze me is the sense of entitlement people have with regards to the LS.
“I paid for GW2, I should get all content updates for free, FOR EVER!”
I don’t think I’ve ever played a game where content updates have ever been free. Content patches and tweaks yes, but new content being added to the core game has never been, and given any sane business model should never be, free.
Lets go back a ways, Diablo 2 and Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction? Nope, buy that expansion!
Diablo 3 then Reaper of Souls or whatever it was called. Nope had to buy that too.
WoW, WoLK? MoP? nope buy into those ones, lads and lasses!
I could probably go on, but I’m pretty sure people will get the point eventually
The very fact that Anet gives us the chance to get it for free when by all means they could have charged us 200gems up front is, in fact, incredibly generous. Furthermore, those 200 gems do not have to be paid for in real money. I missed out chapter 7 towards the end of last year because I was moving countries. Should I go and demand that this chapter be given to me for free? Of course not. When I got a new PC, I just shelled out some meaningless virtual currency and bought it. Chapter 7 cost me nothing in real life
This attitude that "Anet puts out such a “tiny” amount of content every two weeks that it should always be free" makes absolutely no sense. Someone said “time is money” which is very apt. Whoever said it was obviously referring to themselves but conversely why shouldn’t we apply it to Anet? Is the time of developers’ not worth anything? Should their efforts not be remunerated in some way? Shouldn’t the company have some way of bringing in an income? Despite this, Anet nonetheless gave players the option to login and get it for free.
I’m going to leave it here. The rest of what I want to say is infractable so I’ll just go mutter it to myself. Hopefully I won’t see any of those entitled spoiled children in game.
That’s more ‘It doesn’t include content I specifically want, so it’s clealry not an expansion’.
If your lvl 80 and Heart of Thorns comes out with new content, quests, dungeons, living story etc what would make you keep playing the new content?
The same thing that keeps us playing now ?
