WvW De-fragmentation/enhancement

Hello Every one,

I’ve been happy with how ANET handles the updates for GW2, however ANET completely forgot about WvW enhancement. The new map is of course good, but the current map still doesn’t offers enough game of aspects.

I believe de-fragmentation of WvW could make a lot of people including my self happier. By de-fragmentation i mean that the current way of playing is way to simple and linear in a way of zergs. There is no skill, or any strategy used to complete objectives, simply because one guy gets commander tag and every one runs after him/her zerging those objectives.

I would suggest ANET to implement some sort of strategy into the map and de-fragment objectives, so that using small 3-5 men diversion groups would be viable. This will give some enhancement to strategic game play on the field. Pretty much any change that will break such a massive exploitation of zerg strategy into smaller groups would be good.

If you have any suggestions, please don’t be afraid to share.

Also, keep in mind that you can’t just roll one class, pick a uber spec and own every one, this would be very unbalanced. With that you know you would be loosing to some classes/specs, pick those that you want to loose to, instead of focusing on nerfing perfectly working mechanics of other classes.

If you have a crappy spec, with stealth or without, you’ll loose any ways. Stealth is no where near being OP. I do sPvP all the time, never had problem with a thief because i tune the specs to my liking and get few counters. Another thing is: learn how to dodge, thieves only have 1 actual stun which most do not use and it’s on high as hell of a CD. Except s/p thieves which are also easy to counter.

I like the trait system, and i would also like minor traits to be customizable. i do realize that it will create balancing problems for ANET to solve, but what could be better than keeping the player base happy. I would also like weapon abilities to be customizable.

i finally found one fairly viable spec, based on air mostly. however the damage is slightly below average, but surviability is good. For damage i tried to zerker fire, but you get owned in 2-3 hits. every other specs i tried are no good, either you die to fast, or you do absolutely no damage.

the game lacks Carrots (things that people want to acquire or events where people want to participate). Every one knows this, yet ANET is not in a rush to fix it all at once. People asked for mounts, just for looks, half likes them, half doesn’t, ANET is not implementing. The main thing of all MMOs is that player want to acquire item that they can show off or get stronger and beat up some one. It’s always about expressing coolness or/and strength. Currently we have no one to beat up with stronger items except NPCs, and NPCs wont get up after and say “dude where you got it” or “dude, you’re strong”. in sPvP there simply no stronger items and dodge alone is not enough to make up for a skilled player. Your build is 70% of your success in SPvP, 10% dodge, 20% abilities execution.
In other words, to get admiration on skill rather than on item power there not enough factors that players can control. (once again on sPvP) you set your spec, if it’s good you get 70% chance to win.

i guess people don’t see what i am offering, i will break it down a little further.
We have two categories:
1. positive constant bonus – boon
2. negative constant bonus – curse

now we have 1000 actual bonuses, positive and negative. Here are 5 to start with:
1. (positive) Claw of jormag – gets 20% to drop ascended gear
2. (positive) black citadel – every one in the zone get 40% movement speed boon
3. (negative) Lion’s arch – every one in the zone pays double listing fee on TP
4. (negative) Lion’s arch – every one in the zone get movement speed reduced by 30%
5. (positive) Diessa Plateau – every one in the zone gets gets 20% chance on mining to give double the mined material from the node.

List can go on and on. Now the bonuses are weekly, so every week they cross swap (based on ANET’s need, or simply a randomization module). Every week is not the same, Anet might decided to make LA be abandoned this week and put negative bonuses and make black citadel more alive so give positive bonuses. same can work with encounter, boost loot table from jormag to attract people this week, nerf the escort in queens dale. and so on.

This lead to another category:

Repopulate the capital cities/zones
Make certain encounters more popular this week than another.

each of those two type will require different “carrot”. for example: bonus to damage in Lion’s Arch wont make sense, but bonus to damage in diessa plateau for the week will be good.

This will only work with constant bonus swap, otherwise every one will sit where the best bonuses are. Also Dean, those bonuses i listed are only 5 examples, ANET can create 100 different bonuses, positive and negative, and redistribute them as they want to, or where they want more pop, using negative ones to force people out and positive ones to attract people.

I was posting in one thread on how to revitalize capital cities and after deeper thought i think this mechanic could be used to manipulate people and revitalize dead content.


i have a great Idea, or i would believe so. First of all each capital city has to offer every thing that LA does, without Fractals and other dungeons and quests.
Now to manipulate or actually to motivate people to visit cities ANET has to create various bonuses that would rotate on weekly basis. For example Black citadel will give bonus 20% exp for weapon smith crafting and The Grove will have same type of bonus for Huntsman crafting. Every week it rotates. This is to illustrate how the bonuses work and swap.
Now i’ll list various bonuses that can be created, those are also examples:
1. Crafting EX bonuses – 20% extra exp
2. Crafting chance bonuses – 20% chance to craft better quality item
3. Auctioneer bonus – minus 20% off the listing fee
4. Auctioneer luck bonus – 20% chance on sold item to get 20% more gold as bonus
5. Swift foot – simple 40% movement speed while you’re in the city
and i also thought there could be negative bonuses that would motivate people to move out of the city. pretty much a negative counter to the ones i’ve added above.

This bonus strategy could be implemented on a much bigger scale and revitalize dead content, for example you could increase loot drop rate for one week on dragon events, or make similar ex bonus for farming mats in certain zones, or give mobs chance to drop double the loot. All the bonuses players should see by checking the map of certain area so they know where to go.

1. new elite skills, some thing useful than what we have now. I would even use any of support skills there instead what we have as elite skills now.
2. more weapons skills per weapon
3. more weapon combinations
4. better epic battles
5. another way to get ascended gear than through crafting. I do not not mean rings and trinkets, i do mean actual weapons and armor.

There has already been far too much attention paid to mini-games over the past year, with noticeable neglect in expanding other areas of the game.

Guild City Concept

City? no, village? yes. if each guild grabs a piece of land like lion’s arch ANET will have to invest way to much money on servers. therefore it has to be more suitable.

What i think ANET could do is make another instanced zone, with a good variety of Land for guilds to claim. each piece of land gets preset size, and guilds can buy this land according to guild size and build their town there. if guild becomes dead, the land goes neutral and is up for land auction which other guilds that need more land can claim it. The whole zone will have the travel portals, so you could check out the towns and villages of other guilds and trade some guild based items.

Well shades that’s the only explanation i can take for Minis, the source of income. I personally wont find my self getting minis, nor playing mini’s games, unless they can directly enhance my character or rewards from those mini games will directly affect my character, for example giving me a sexy cosmetic or some thing.

The idea is appealing, but i’d really like it not to lock any abilities, or making certain so overpowered that it will make the others undesirable. as for sub classes i would say, make the 3 of them.

1. blood – improves overall efficiency of DOT skills and abilities. cool downs and cast time shortened, damage or speed of dot increased. Also adds 2 new blood based abilities and 1 blood based elite skill and one blood based support skill.

2. light – Improved overall efficiency of heal, health, toughness. cool down of protection based skills shortened and duration prolonged. speed of HOTs increase as well as general healing. Also adds 2 new light based abilities and 1 light based elite skill and one light based support skill.

3. metal – improves overall efficiency of solid damage skills and abilities. cool downs shortened, damage and attack speed increased. Also adds 2 new metal based abilities and 1 metal based elite skill and one metal based support skill.

5 things you want to be removed or edited

Following the Thread with 5 things that we the players want to be added into the game, i though it would be a great Idea to have another with 5 things we want edited or removed from the game.

why edited or removed? simply because there is plenty of unused content that should either edited or completely removed. Keep in mind it’s “or” meaning some things just need to be edited other just need to be removed.

My 5:
1. bunker specs – either make it full trinity system or remove tank specs.
2. Epic events – edited/enhanced
3. bypass strategies – edit dungeons so that mob skipping wont work.
4. Zombie apocalypse – removed, it’s time to move on.
5. cultural armor – edited/enhanced

I thought a little more and i thing i want more than just 5 things in the game. I’ll list 5 more.
1. more weapon choices and combinations per class
2. New weapon sub classes (add whip, great axe and so on)
3. more than 5 weapon skills for weapon skill slots (make them customizable as well)
4. another race or two would be nice
5. another new class or two would be nice
6. improved WvW, mindless zergs are not cool. please invent system based on various strategies and etc.

Tequatl and Zhaitan are disgrace to epic battles, that’s some thing i believe every one agrees upon.

Tequatl is simply zergable. when Zhaitan i did once and never ever returned. The graphics are good thought, however the mechanics and the reward system is really bad for the battles that are supposed to be epic.

I agree some what with what you said. Artificial barrier might not be the best Idea, but the loot pool has to be enhanced, this is just irritating to do Claw of Jormag 10 times a week and not get a single worthy item. People just cash crap in and nothing happens, there faster ways to farm gold than do dragons that end up not dropping any thing worthy.

to justify the enhanced loot pool, ANET needs to balance it with difficulty and make sure the encounter is not zergable.

As for artificial barrier, there is one already, if you join the fight mid event you end up not getting any loot.

What i mean is, these events are cool, but they are not rewarding enough. I have 3 characters full of sexy exotics, and i got it all without doing a single dragon event. I tried dragon event few times but it doesn’t boasts interest to keep doing it. there no drops, that would be interesting to get, no skins, gold you get from cashing in is too small to wait for timing events.

Does any one of you fellow gamers and MMO veterans feel that the epic encounters are not quiet epic?

I would take dragon events as an example. The dragon events are timed, and the battles are big, it requires lots of people to beat them, but generally these events do not feel epic.

The dragons them selves are way to easy i believe, not only they are too easy, but they also have a bad loot pool.

With that i would like to ask ANET to enhance these epic battles.

Here is my Idea on Claw of Jormag:

The idea is to keep the event rare/scarce.

1. Keep it timed, with spawn window, but also when event starts make the event area be a “dome” which no one can enter except those who were there to wait for the even in the beginning.
2. Scale event difficulty based on minimum amount of players starting with 10 (if less than 10 people in the dome the encounter is undoable). if 10 people in the dome, event becomes doable, for each additional player event scales just enough to still be doable but hard and not easy.
3. To wrap up the first two points – those who miss the beginning of the event will have to wait until the next event starts. If even wont get minimal amount of players, dragon breathes frost, instantly killing the players and flies off, event resets.
4. With increased, scarcity/rarity of the event and scaled difficulty we can now implement a carrot. Enhance the loot pool, add stat free cosmetic on rare drop (like wings for example) and add tickets that will drop from encounter (once player does enough events to get enough tickets, he/she can exchange them for ascended gear). Any other ideas on adding carrot will work as well.

So now we have Epic encounter that is truly epic, epicly hard, epicly looty and overall worth encountering.

1. elite skill revamp – the way it is right now, i’d take any support (7,8,9) ability over Elite for pretty much any class.
2. sPvP alike gear locker for PvE
3. a better sPvP carrot – i think just skins is not enough to keep you in sPvP
4. actually worthy gear drops from Epic encounters – i believe each dragon has to drop exotic or ascended on 100% chance, and rolled for like in WoW or if this doesn’t appeals than dragon can drop 1-2 tickets, and when you collect let’s say 20 from same dragon you can exchange them for exotic or ascended gear directly without having to level professions and craft. I mean the epic encounters should be so epic that reward would be great.
5. Better World PvP structure – current zerg and capture is not really appealing specially with no rewards.
6. better reward structure – i believe any thing we do in game has to give rewards. After all it’s a game and it’s really empty of any sense if there are no rewards at the end.

This is a serious problem.

not sure who thinks personal story is so important that it need rework. after completing personal story there is no use for it, the factions we never see at 80, neither do we get any good items from personal story, or can use it for any thing.

Living story is also a dull bull. i’d prefer some thing good and big like raids instead. also would be nice if dungeons would be fixed, the skipping runs are not intended mechanic.

Scythes would be a great idea, however i was offering a new weapon classes. Scythe as is already a part of Staff class. Unless they want to split it and made it their own, allowing rangers to use it let’s say as physical weapon.

Whips can be different as well, they could be made of metal, or from some thing lazer alike similar to incinerator.

world behind the mirror
illusionist pulls enemy into a different world full of his illusions, each illusion is doing 1% of enemy’s total life as damage per second. they sit in the world for 30 seconds. cooldown 5 mins, while in that world they are not present in the battle.

Engineer
Exoskeleton
Engineer jumps into an exoskeleton suit for 40 seconds, that is loaded with automated rifle as one hand and double gun as another, damage taken reduced by 33%, gets 5 new abilities, and of course has too look like he is wearing this medieval exoskeleton. movement speed slowed by 20%, cool down 2 mins.

Elementalist
the 5th element
calls in 4 elementals of earth, storm, fire and water, in a rectangular manner all 4 of them start to channel the beam into the enemy, enemy is stalled for the duration. elementalist walks up to the enemy and beam of light shoots down from sky. the damage done is only from the sky beam. works similar to warrior’s strike, except does flat out 15% of total life of the enemy.

Ranger
the beast
fuses with his current pet making a completely new humanoid/beast baddie, gives 5 new attack skills for the duration of the effect – they depend on pet the ranger merges with. lasts 40 sec. 3 min cool down. of course increased damage and/or surviability – again depends on the pet

Thief
“shadow council”
Thief calls in up to 5 thieves that appear out of no where right behind the target. 1 target per such thief in the radius( let’s say 30 yards) of the actual character – so if there only 3 enemies that means only 3 thieves come out, each behind 1 of the targets. strike a combination of 3 hits (assign reasonable damage) + petrify for 2 seconds. 3 min CD.

Guardian
Righteous fire
buff that gives a cosmetic look of burning to the Guardian, that increases attack speed by 5%, crit by 5% and burns (choose damage amount) enemies in a radius of 15 yards,- also gives visible aura alike cosmetic look of burning through out the buff’s duration on the ground. lasts 40 seconds, cool down 3 minutes.

Warrior
Destroyer’s strike
instantly kills enemy with 10% HP without the right for downed state. Cosmetic look – stalls the enemy with a sword’s handle and slices vertically through the enemy – actually splitting body in half. If used on enemy with more than 10% hp just stalls it and does horizontal slash for minor damage.

Necro
Demon within
order one of the pets to enter the enemy body and do damage over time for 30 seconds, pet than dies unless enemy is killed. The enemy while under the effect should get a corrupted cosmetic look. give duration of 30 sec, 1% hp per sec lost. 5 min CD

sPvP area needs some work

i do realize that, but HotM looks bad it self. The area even though is polished but far from beautiful. Anet could deliver a whole arena look in style of black citadel that would look a hundred times better than an abandoned gloomy field – the way HotM is now. I’m not calling to add more NPCs, i want the HotM area to look better, like a coliseum with blood sky, yells of glory, and some more NPCs to make it look some what crowded rather than seeing 5 people sitting there and feeling lonely.

Possible Fix to rush or speed runs.

There is easier solution. Due to lack of trinity system certain packs prove to be too strong, those could b made a little easier. Another is to make barriers that will open only after the line of mobs is kill, not all some should be left there for by passing.

Do you guys think that there should of been a Great Axe in the game? i mean why logically it would not be in the game? Also i don’t understand why Thief can’t dual wield swords? is his 2nd hand too weak to hold one or some thing?

I think we need more weapons in the game, weapon combination skills and more weapon combinations.

New Weapons i’d suggest:

Great Axe – 2 handed
whip – 1 handed
crossbow – 1 handed
crossbow – 2 handed
dart launcher – off-handed

New weapon combinations for classes:

Thief – gets to dual wield 2 swords, 1 handed crossbow, whip
Ranger – get whip, dart launcher, both crossbows
guardian – gets Great axe
Warrior – gets 2h crossbow, great axe
Illusionist – gets whip, dart launcher
Necromancer – gets dart launcher
sentimentalist – gets whip
Engineer – gets all proposed above weapons.

More weapon skill customization

I really feel that we’re lacking weapon skill customization. I would prefer more then 5 skills per weapon. I’d like weapon skill system work similar to support skills.

Explanation:

1st sill (the auto attack) should be like heal skill (number 6). have 3-4 variations with different cosmetic look and debuff/buff effects.

The following 3 skills (buttons 2,3,4) should be customization from the pool of skills just like the support skills (buttons 7,8,9)

Finally the 5th skill should be like last special skill expect being attack special of some sort. some thing a little stronger than the rest yet at some sort of penalty.

All this per weapon. so let’s say for guarding great sword skills there 3 variations to pick from for first (auto attack slot) and so on. Let’s say first option stays as is and 2nd will be slash from left to right, than return slash from right to left, spin and thrust. final hit would add let’s say poison debuff.

sPvP area needs some work

I believe that sPvP mists Area should have a better look. Currently it looks like a nearly destroyed place and looks gloomy and lonely. I think that making it brighter, with bloody sky would look better, Specially if it looks similar to Roman arena Charr style, with a good amount of NPCs to make sure it’s not filling lonely.

It would also be good if you let’s say walk around the arena and can challenge NPCs for a duel to practice, rather than have them lined up like in unfinished zone. Ehh, i think mists sPvP zone is in fact very unfinished. Need to work on texture there so it looks cooler, gives sense of greatness, power, never ending fields of glory. Just for cosmetic look i can imagine a vendor walking around the arena offering water to tired soldiers.

well, if they make 10 arrows in a quiver, they could make it so after quiver gets down to five arrows, the arrows start to regenerate like 2 per additional used. which would give a sense of arrows actually be used but never get to empty point. However i don’t think ANET will go so deep into cosmetic programming.

To clarify few things. by dungeon part 1 and 2 i mean a fairly easy dungeon and by dungeon 3 and raid/dragon content should be fairly hard and therefore ANET will have to scale difficulty.

Hello every one, I’d like to cover a topic of gear life expectancy and lasting appeal. I believe some items in game are too easy to get and some are too hard, this really affects the lasting appeal for the game as well as for the item. Please keep in mind i only will discuss items that character can wear, not crafting materials and etc.

The item category break down:

1. trash (grey, blue)
2. place holders (master work, rare)
3. end game rank 1 (exotic)
4 end game rank 2 (ascended)
5 life time (Legendary)

Now for PvE we do understand that gear needs to scale in power statistic wise. For PvE cosmetic look is not enough of importance.

Category 1 is nothing really to speak about, usual trash for salvaging.

Life Expectancy of full itemization: 1 day.
Time to acquire: 10-20% of Life Expectancy per item

Category 2 is mainly for leveling ease (master work) and rare should be 80s starting gear. The start of the journey where people farm for better gear like exotics.

Life Expectancy of full itemization: 2-4 days.
Time to acquire: 30% of Life Expectancy per item

Category 3 Should be the first tier of rewards from easy to moderate difficulty content. I would say like general 80 crafting, dungeons (in case that no one wants raids it should be reward for part one and two of the dungeon).

Life Expectancy of full itemization: 25-30 days.
Time to acquire: 1 day per item

Category 4 is a top tier gear that is nearly unsurpassed. Gear should come from raid rewards (if no one wants raids, let’s say Dungeon part 3 would reward it) as well as some harder crafting and big world events like dragons.

Life Expectancy of full itemization: 90 days and up, till new tire comes out if ever.
Time to acquire: 6 days per item

Category 5 is a type of gear that would last long and would require a fair amount of time to get it.

Life Expectancy of the item: 6 months and up.
Time to acquire: 1-2 months per item

To explain how the life expectancy formula works: let’s say set of 5 armor pieces, 2 weapons, 2 rings, 2 accessories and 1 amulet is a full set for one character. Based on Category 3 the calculation looks like this: 12 items, time to acquire each is 1 day = 12 days to get full set and than the set of this quality will be viable for next 30 days, so you can start getting your next tier.

Finally, once the top tier gear is reached, you can work on cosmetic side of the gear. you can do so before reaching end level of gear. Those categories only apply to gear Quality, not Cosmetic look. The cosmetic looks should also take some time to acquire but not as long.

please let me know what you think about it? i personally believe it’s good since quality stats should not take 1 day to get like current exotics, no should the cool looks like mjolnir be so hard to acquire as it is.

GW2 getting stale - need a PVE expansion

I would pay money for expansion to give developers some boost. However expansion it self is not required. We just want new content, permanent content that we can not just explore but do for gear and other.

Unfortunately to bring people into the game you need to create a carrot, to bring people to ORR you need to invent good enough carrot. I personally don’t want to waste time in ORR for exotics when i can get them quick from dungeons, and those from dungeon are much sexier. I don’t want to farm ascended gear at this point because boss drop rate is very bad and material grind is just too long. This actually touches a life expectancy of gear which i touched in another thread.

there is no incentive, some one who is not farming for a legendary like my self wont care for the buff. Buff could be a good mediator if ANET adds incentive. For that reason, Karma gear (set in particular, sexy weapons), they make more world drops for the “luck”.

I personally think ANET need to add more gear into the game, distribute it (like zone sets, event sets, karma sets) and so on.

Necros are already fairly strong with all those minions, don’t thin making them smarter or stronger without balancing with penalty is good.

On Mesmers i would happily like to see main hand pistol.

Engineer turrets are fine as is, any further buff will make engineer OP.

Elementalists do need some mechanical rework. I honestly dislike how the trait lines become useless per elemental atonement and forcing you to stance dance, this is not good mechanic.

Thief is another class i’d like to see dual swords. I think it’s legit.

Multi-character professions!!!

Hello All,

After reading few posts i was hit with the idea of Multi-character professions.

So the idea is simple, why not to make all profession be available for all characters and only be leveled once. Let’s say i while leveling my Charr Thief take, weapon-smithing to 75th level and to 150 on my Human ranger.

The pros:
1. gives more convenience for all our characters
2. Will limit abuse of leveling through maxing out professions
3. Will conveniently reduce grind for leveling and buying new recipes.
4. Ultra-rare recipes will be available cross characters

The cons:
1. Time sync and gold sync reduced
2. Grind time reduced

Please feel free to add or suggest any thing. Also please Clearly state if you like the Idea or you don’t like it.
