I’m not going to complain about trash loot, when it provides a steady stream of salvaged crafting mats, especially with the price of leather still through the roof.

And it keeps the Agent of Entropy achievement ticking over nicely.

That’s the only reason I’d want one.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

What was the point of wasting your energy coming here to make that comment? What did it add to the subject? It’d be like me walking into an icecream store where people are discussing what new flavours they’d like to see added and loudly declaring that I hate icecream.

You already got what you wanted, Anet killed him off for you lot, go enjoy that and leave us in peace.

You want to hate on a character? Start your own thread. Clearly this thread is not for you.

Additions to Material Storage

I understand why tonics wouldn’t work to store in the crafting tab, but would something like the wardrobe page for minis be a possibility somewhere down the track for tonics?

It seems a lot of the same advantages to committing your minis to their wardrobe tab, eg, not having to keep them in inventory, accessing them from all characters, could also apply to tonics.

Edit:

Tonics definitely don’t belong in material storage, but I’m sure more than a few people would be ecstatic if toys and tonics had their own accessibility tab.

Toys and EL tonics should really be managed the same way as minis where you can either keep the item and use it, or consume it and permanently unlock it. It doesn’t make sense to expect people to keep so much inventory for cosmetics.

I also would be totally down for minis of Sieran and Forgal, complete the trinity!

When will triggered reaction stop? I expect this from radicalists but not from fellow gw2 players . Difeerrent genders have different clothing – surprise suprise . Jeez , you don’t see dude rocking around in mini skirts or mini shorts in the real world either ..

But they do walk around shirtless. In fact, it’s more socially acceptable in most countries for a man to walk around with nothing on top, than a woman.

Yet I can count on one hand the number of male tops that equal the amount of skin shown on many of the female bikini tops. Despite the “real world” telling me that it should be the opposite.

If people have choices in how skimpy to dress their characters, it’s stops being a problem because it’s their choice how revealing to dress, not something forced on anyone. If they want to that’s great as long as the people who want something covered have those options too. It’s the “men have to be covered, women have to be sexy” argument that’s harmful here, not the idea of skimpy armour itself.

OK… So then what is the problem? Assuming you are speaking about female armor in the game, there are choices, in fact there are less skimpy option than non skimpy options for female characters. The armor is well balanced (as far as coverage is concerned) for female characters.

That still doesn’t change the fact that there are way more sets of skimpy armour for females than there are for males and for most of those sets, when the female version is revealing, the male version is very much not. It reinforces the idea that for female armour, skimpyness is if not quite compulsory, certainly considered to be a given, and that for men it is avoided.

What the OP is getting at, and I fully agree, is to see some consistancy in each set of armour released.

If it’s sleeveless on the ladies, why not sleeveless on the guys?
Showing some female cleavage? Show some guy chest too.
If the male version is practical and covering, have the female version look just as practical and covering.
Female version is beautifully ornate and impractical? I want to see the same level of ornamentation and impracticality on the guy version. (I’m looking at you, light carapace armour)

Anet could alternate, bring out a set of ornamental, revealing armour that looks that way on both genders, then a nice set of I-go-to-battle-in-this armour that looks practical on both genders, or maybe a sleek, form fitting set where both genders get pants sans buttcapes. The possibilities are endless!

What I’m complaining about is the way many armour sets look so radically different in terms of coverage and design on each gender, that they look like they come from two totally different armour sets, and that the coverage disparity is skewed so drastically towards revealing females instead of the ratio being more balanced so that everyone can find something in the variety that they like.

When will you stop this obnoxious crap. Stop making separate rules for armor. You either stick with revealing for both or covered for both.

This is getting really tiresome. I expect this out of some Korean grindfest.

Not you, a western company.

I definitely want more revealing female armor. Male armor is fine – but female armor should be very revealing and I support making more of it. If you don’t like it – well that’s just unfortunate.

And here we have a classic example of the “If I’m being catered to, I don’t think anyone else needs to be catered to” argument as mentioned in my previous post:

I fully understand your defensiveness, but please understand that there are people who try to justify “But I like sexy armour!” as a reason to undermine and derail any attempt to address armour inequality, and that can make us equally defensive.

The argument that men are fine covered, but that women “should” be dressed in a revealing fashion not only showcases the sexism still alive and well in the gaming world, as well as disregarding those who would like a more equally distributed variety of skimpy and non skimpy outfits on both men and women characters.

It also undermines those who enjoy dressing their female characters in revealing outfits.

I can assure you, if we had as many non skimpy options as skimpy ones for both genders, there would still be plenty of people enjoying running around in revealing, impractical armour, you wouldn’t be losing out on anything, they’d just be able to it without being accused of holding sexist opinions like the one above.

Six or none!

A more sleek version tailored for Charr and Asura females would allow for some femininity without looking like they’d just been stuffed into the ported over male chestplate.

But either would be an improvement over boobplate on races that don’t even have boobs.

It really makess the ridiculousness of sexualising only one genders armour more obvious when you see it outside the accepted humanoid female context eh?

When will people who use the “but I like, it, you want to take sexy armour away!” argument realise that is NOT what people who want armor parity are asking for.

What we want is to be able to choose!

Many sexy armor choices for bother genders, many covered armour choices for both genders, instead of one gender having 90% of one, and the other gender having 90% of the other.

Human creativity has no limits, THE UNIVERSE IS BIG ENOUGH FOR BOTH.

We don’t want to take anything away, we want there to be an equal amount of different options for both.

You and others might not want to take things away but there are plenty that do. People like me who enjoy revealing outfits and armors are always on the defensive when this topic is even brought up because we get called all kinds of names for enjoying sexy/revealing things in our fantasy video games. I’ve been called a lonely man (?? Always gets me considering I’m not even a Male…), a loser, a sexist, a misogynist… etc… just for daring to speak up in favor of more sexy.

So please (no sarcasm here) do forgive some of us if we sound defensive even when it’s not warranted. :\

No one should be shamed for liking sexy armor.

The problem lays where there is little to no choice in the matter. When I dress my female character up in frivolous, sexy armour, I want it to be because I chose to put them in it, not because it was all I had to choose from. And ditto for the male characters regarding practical armour, I want it to be my choice.

People who attack people for their armour choices are not helping the argument for armour parity and are a separate though connected issue.

I fully understand your defensiveness, but please understand that there are people who try to justify “But I like sexy armour!” as a reason to undermine and derail any attempt to address armour inequality, and that can make us equally defensive.

I’m happy for you, that you have many armour options that you like for your female characters, all I want is the same amount of choice for mine.

We don’t want to take anything away, we want there to be an equal amount of different options for both.

That’s not really practical, unfortunately. Mainstream fashion tastes don’t allow for it. Even the areas of the body that are typically revealed in men’s fashion are different.

But hell, don’t mind me. I’ve still got my fingers crossed for some proper light armour pants.

Cue: obligatory posting of GW1 armours I like and am disappointed I cannot have.

I reiterate my “human creativity has no limits” statement. We play in a world with magic eating dragons and non gender-binary plant people. But we can’t suspend our disbelief enough to have pants for women, revealing tops for men, or an alternative to buttcapes because of what mainstream media tells us looks good?

http://puu.sh/psP43/a0bf4488a3.jpg

Even if my charr had breasts to hide, which she doesn’t, they wouldn’t be that low down on her body.

I’m all for variety in armour, and I understand that ‘scantily clad’ is the only setting female characters get with new armour releases, but on a charr? Why?

I’m fine with dresses, even if my female charr would never wear a dress. To each their own. More power to the sparklecats. But a bra? Bramour? ON A CHARR?

Urgh. I mean, I didn’t like medium armour anyway because of the face on the back, but this problem isn’t limited to the medium weight class:

http://puu.sh/psPHk/d74aac6668.jpg
http://puu.sh/psPPx/6dc6814f6a.jpg

I’m not going to go into some big long rant about gender, diversity, and tolerance. I’m not gonna spit the dummy and say I’ll never buy gems again. I’m just gonna say I don’t like this shift towards more feminine female charrmour. I want charr-bras and charr-dresses to be the rarity, not the norm, if we really must go in this direction.

Sure, the option is great to have for those who want to take it, but some of us don’t play Charrbies or glamkitties or sparklecats, and we’d like new armour options that reflect that.

It seems like it would be another little thing to help make your characters’ face more unique, and since its already been successfully implemented on the female half of the models, why can’t males also have the option to have more rounded cheeks or sharper cheekbones?

And yes I get that they may have bent that non cannonly to allow more opportunity for people to participate in Mad King Says in LA, but there’s no reward for seeing him in the starter zones so why did they feel the need to break the lore there?

Is it forshadowing that the seals are weakening under his constant pressure? Or just sloppy writing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Autumnmane.3574

I was getting so enthusiastic that halloween was getting closer, because I was looking forward to seeing how the story of Mad King Thorn and Edrick would continue.

Personally I’ve got no problem with them keeping the traditional events like the labyrinth and the mini games and just adding new rewards. Foundation events are part of what gives holidays their theme and their charm. But to hear that they’re doing nothing to the story, after all the enthusiasm shown by the devs in last years halloween stream, after the excited hints that they introduced Edrick last year, to set up the story for future years… Well, I can only imagine the devs are as disappointed as I am.

The thought that NCsoft may have influenced this turn of events and enforced the radio silence to do with any questions about halloween had occured to me.

So instead of being drawn into a magical story with hilarious, witty dialogue and tantalising lore snippets, we get to watch as it stagnates and pretend that our characters never encountered the Bloody Prince last year. Grinding candycorn for new shinies is fun I guess but it’s always been the story that made GW2 a fun, immersive world for me, and nowhere do I feel that more strongly than with Halloween

Please anet lets have some different gender models for male/female charr and asuras

What’s hilararious, is:
1) that female Charr have that chest cloth undergarment thing despite not having breasts because “The world isn’t ready for topless women in videogames even without breasts and with fur covering them”
2) Asura and Charr females all use male armor models because they don’t have conventionally attractive figures and breasts to sexualize.
3) The male Raiment of the Lich outfit has the chest exposed, so now we’ve got a bunch of female Charr and Asura running around topless…

Alot of these responses seem to just be making excuses. I.e. “they’re PROBABLY not too worried because the avatar isn’t really the tree” or “they’re PROBABLY dispersing themselves to heal other parts of the tree” (where is that even indicated?) or “Trahearne is too action-oriented to show any concern”.

Basically, these can all be possibilities that we can arrive at through deeper consideration. But that’s the thing. My main issue is that Anet made none of these things remotely evident in the writing. Atleast that was my impression..

It feels as though the charr NPCs had way more to say about Rytlock’s disappearance than did the sylvari NPCs about their mother’s life being endangered.

I’m not saying the firstborn should all be panicking and crying, but atleast more visibly acknowledge the gravity of this ordeal regarding their poor mother. After the World Summit’s last cutscene, my character would’ve only felt how serious the attack was based on the non-sylvari NPCs reactions, which is just a really odd, unrealistic imbalance. I just think Anet could’ve handled that scenario with a bit more depth and more realistically.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying. Half the reason I like Trahearne is because of the various fanart, comics and headcannons I found while surfing the net, before I’d got too far into the Pact storyline. They fleshed out his personality in a way the storyline failed to do, which made it easier for me to engage with him.

It’s seriously not a good look when the fans are doing a better job of portraying the characters with depth and personality than the writers are. It certainly shouldn’t be up to the fans to come up with excuses to explain away the gaping holes in a characters development or reaction to a situation.

This isn’t a very big deal, but I couldn’t help but find it incredibly odd that all of the sylvari NPCs, especially those two, left with everyone else through the portal, instead of staying behind to check up on their poor mother, who’s lying on the ground passed out and barely breathing.

Furthermore, when talking to Trahearne, he has nothing to say about the ordeal aside from wanting to go back to Fort Trinity asap (understandable, but your mom almost died honey). I didn’t recall seeing Caithe anywhere…? Atleast Laranthir expressed some concern.

I just found it distracting that Anet made all of the non-sylvari Destiny Edge v2 people show more concern for the Pale Tree than the important sylvari NPCs, the firstborn no less.

Especially that Trahearne is the first of the first. I did this on my human and before I left through the portal, I kept going back to talk to the wardens cause it seemed wrong to leave. (The wardens assured me that I could do nothing more and they would take it from there.)

I figured Trahearne reacting the way he did was more to do with how he deals with his emotions. He’s an awkward, secretive nightbloom who isn’t good with people, even his own , so he tends to bury stuff.

Terrified of his Wyld Hunt? Does research for 20 years to avoid facing it and his fear of failing. Distressed by the attack on the Pale Tree? Immediately wants to get away and start organising countermeasures. He’s one of those people who has to do something when he’s distressed. Also he may feel, as the eldest and as Pact Marshal, he has to put up a strong front.

I think a lot of this could probably apply to Caithe too, she leaves the crying and comforting to others while she sorts out the practical side of things.

GW2 Female Armour [Poll]

There are so many people out there who would love more equality and variety in the armour sets. I for one fully support equalizing the thematic designs and levels of how revealing a set is instead of females having 90% of the revealing/ornamented gear and males having 90% of the tanky looking, utilitarian gear. Either that or having 2 versions of an armour set and the player being able to toggle between skimpy and non-skimpy would be great too.

Either way I’m just sick of being forced into having my toon dress a certain way based on their gender, and if I want to dress them outside the binary, being restricted to the 1 or 2 non-binary pieces out of the dozens of armour sets available.

Watchwork mining pick ruining ore?

I purchased a watchwork mining pick a while back and today when I was mining a rich iron node with it, 3 of the 10 or so pieces of iron I mined were “ruined chunks of ore”. I thought that only happened when you used a tool of a lesser tier than the node? I also thought the gemstore tools were equal to Orichalcum tools and could be used on all nodes? Am I going to have to worry about my watchwork pick ruining a percentage of the ore I need?

I’d also like to apologize to the devs if my initial reactions were too hostile. I don’t expect you to consider RPers in the development of this system, which is clearly designed for the mechanics of your game (not the mechanics of the player community). I don’t expect that any of the devs would understand what it takes for an RP community to thrive. So it’s unreasonable to expect that they would have thought up a solution before-hand to the issues we’re discussing in this thread.

However, I think it is reasonable to expect more communication with the community. This system is probably already complete and ready to launch, so any talk of features in this thread or the other feedback thread won’t be able to be implemented before patch day. But if ArenaNet had made mention of this earlier, like even a month ago… if they had just said “This is the direction we’re headed towards” and gathered feedback on potential community needs for it, then RPers could have made their concerns known then. It would have been a calmer situation, these ideas could have been suggested, and ArenaNet could have probably found a solution before they were ready to release.

But instead this major change was dropped on us so soon before it’s going to be released. That’s why everyone’s a little panicked and aggressive. Because they know it’s probably too late to even address their concerns before launch. And they feel unappreciated by the developers because no one bothered to get their input on the matter before-hand. This really, really could have been easily addressed if it was simply discussed a month or two earlier.

“The Megaserver System: Guilds and the Future:
We’ll go into the very specific details about these changes as we approach the launch of this system game-wide, but we wanted to get a head start on messaging this since these are natural questions the addition of our megaserver system raises.”

So Anet’s okay with giving wvw and guilds a heads up in advance they can ask questions and bounce feedback, but they couldn’t do the same so rpers would have a chance to voice concerns at an early enough stage to address them?

Just adding my vote for some kind of flagging / checkbox system. I think it would be a good idea for rpers and for anyone else who just wants a little more control over where the placement system is likely to send them.
