Weekend Guardian/Elementalist
No Guild Affiliation
I read a post from a different topic where someone was saying how Choo also left. But nobody has mentioned that here, so I’m assuming false rumor?
I haven’t been up to date with GW2 (and WvW) past few weeks, but I hear that a lot of guilds transferred off of SoR? I know that FEAR went to FA. Which other guilds left?
I’m not sure about PvE, but IMO, there shouldn’t be a difference in skills/traits between WvW and sPvP. It’s simply unintuitive and confusing to users. Heck, I wouldn’t mind if skills/traits where same across all of sPvP, WvW, and PvE.
There are still differences, a few examples:
- WvW has more open spaces and you don’t need to be capping points all the time, so mobility is much more important. Certain warrior skill (namely Whirlwind and Rush), for example, might not need a nerf in PvP, but should in WvW.- Perma, or long term, stealth is balanced in sPvP due to not being able to cap a point. In WvW this is usually not an issue since players are seldom alone and distances are longer so you can win a fight and cap the point while the other guy won’t make it back in time. This means that mesmer PU, for example is a lot stronger in WvW than PvP and – imo – needs a nerf in WvW at least.
- AI clutter is more of an issue in PvP since there is (due to numbers) less AoE than WvW, so it needs to be toned down in PvP but can be left alone in WvW.
Because of this (and most likely several other reasons that don’t come to mind right now), it makes sense to split PvP and WvW balance.
I understand the benefits of WvW and sPvP being split. But in my opinion, it would still be better if they were same. As someone who enjoys both WvW and sPvP, having to keep track of 2 different balances going on can be too much, especially for newbies and casuals. It’s mind-boggling when I discover that the same skill does half the damage in one game mode than the other.
I have a warrior, and I think the scaling is poor. IMO, that’s where the problem is: with NO healing power, it’s still 392 HP/sec. With max healing power, it’s only like 430 HP/sec or something.
They should change it so that it starts off at ~300 HP/sec and give better scaling so that warriors have to actually spec into healing power.
I’ve been playing WvW almost exclusively on my staff ele, but want to give sPvP a try. From WvW, I know that staff isn’t the greatest in small scale battles.
Any suggestions on weapon/build for a new sPvP player? I’d prefer something bursty and not tanky. Thanks!

If you are going to encourage all guilds of a server to run tagless, don’t complain about having lousy coverage in 2-3 months. Without tags, new players can’t learn whats going on, and you will eventually kill your server without fresh blood to counter the attrition.
JQ has had the most numerous pugs since this game has started, and I think its a major reason they stay in Tier 1 regardless of what guilds come and go. More recently BG has upped the pug numbers since the Teq kill and I think that also shows.
Following that tag is the first thing you learn how to do when you join WvW the first time (they are trained to do it in PvE). Then skill and TS and builds and scouting and manning siege come later. Seems to me guilds sacrifice the long term health of the game for short term “the fights are better”.
But the nice thing about WvW, is we can play it any way we want to.
Agreed. Tags are important to sustain a WvW population of a server. If it weren’t for tags, I probably would’ve never revisited WvW out of confusion and frustration, and even would’ve quit playing the game shortly after.
If you like running tagless, great. If you like running tagged, great. Just stop accusing others for not doing things your way IMO.
Here’s what I don’t get. Are you people new? WvW has always had less the stellar rewards to investment in it. This should come as a surprise to no one who has actively been doing wvw for any amount of time. I’m more shocked that the chest actually has a decent amount of dragonite in it.
Agreed. If you did WvW for the rewards, then you probably should’ve stuck to PvE
there is no logical reason player versus player shouldnt have decent rewards, and more importantly somethings that you aim for as a competitor
There is a logical reason. The diehard fans of WvW are tired of reward-seeking players who don’t care about WvW objectives taking spots and causing crazy long queues. WvW players want to play with like-minded players and want to play against like-minded players.
If you want rewards, there is a game mode that gives you good rewards: PvE. Stay out of WvW if you don’t intend to WvW
what if I want to WvW AND make progress toward an ascended weapon or legendary?
It’s not as easy as “just make WvW rewards better,” because if you make it too good, then all the PvE players would come and cause crazy queues. If it’s too inferior, then WvW players are forced to PvE here and there to grind ascended gear.
I think the underlying problem isn’t that WvW isn’t rewarding enough, but that grinding gold/mats is required to compete in WvW (due to gear treadmill)
It’s good for WvW. Less incentive for people to stack winning servers.

Did you guys honestly expect lucrative rewards from WvW? If they did, then it would completely break WvW balance because everyone would flock over to a winning server.
If you want good reward-time spent ratio, then PvE is that way —-——->
I’m glad that Anet didn’t make WvW into a reward-based system.
Why, exactly, shouldn’t WvW be properly rewarded? What warrants for WvW having worse rewards than, the much easier, PvE content?
Same reward spread across everyone who participated? Or different tiers of reward (and better) for servers that ranked higher?
If latter, that would break WvW completely as reward-seeking players would flock over to the winning server and cause it to stack.
If former, then that would cause tremendous queues in WvW, which WvW-players are already sick of. PvE doesn’t have queues, so it doesn’t suffer from players flocking to it. WvW does, and WvW-players want to play with and against other like-minded players who play for fights, not rewards.
If you’re complaining that WvW isn’t rewarding enough, nobody is stopping you from going over to PvE with rich rewards.
I play for fun, but also i play for rewards.
Tell me if you do a 4 hours event for 5 greens. Fun? Well… maybe, but you gain nothing…
You gain nothing…? Really? You had fun. Is having fun not a reward in itself?
Who taught you that you were entitled to having fun AND being rewarded for having fun??

Hello Forum-goers! We of the Pain Train would like to present you with our congratulations and celebration video to Blackgate for winning Season One NA Gold!
But instead of showing all the great fights we had over the season, we took a different route. Hopefully you like it!Regards,
Rufus Cinderspire – [Choo]Coming from bag train choo, this was pretty entertaining to me lol
So, you run away from bags? :O
I’m strictly a WvW player (90% WvW, 10% PvE) and I have 5 lvl 80s in ascended/exotic gear. The following are the professions I use, from most to least:
Note that each class has a variety of builds (stat allocation, skill selection) and weapons to choose from. So my experience is not comprehensive by any means, as I mostly stick to one build. But if you have nothing to base your decisions off of, perhaps this can help you.
Elementalist
I run staff with mostly berserker (glass cannon) stats
Things I like:
Great (if not best) AoE damage. I’m probably the most lethal to a group when left alone. I can also throw in various AoE CCs that can cripple many zergs. Very versatile, lots of CC, and great AoE damage. Also, elementalist can easily destroy players and sieges on walls, due to large AoE of meteor shower skill.
Things I don’t like:
Very squishy. I notice a lot of players target elementalists first because they know how destructive one can be if left alone. This means I can die easily if I don’t position myself well. Staff ele also lacks somewhat in single target DPS. Also relatively lacking somewhat in mobility
Guardian
I run GS/staff with mostly tanky stats
Things I like:
Most durable out of all the classes I play. So many self and party boons and passive and active healing abilities. I just love being able to outlast everyone in almost every fight. When I get tired of dying on my elementalist, I often come back to my guardian for faceroll. I feel the most confident roaming on my guardian
Things I dont like:
Limited to no ranged attacks. I feel like my ranged attacks only “tickle” enemies.
Warrior
I run GS/Longbow with mostly tanky stats
Things I like:
Most mobility out of all classes. GS gives you so many movement abilities that works better with swiftness. Combined with great passive regen (from healing signet) and great mobility that allows me to escape many situations, I hardly ever die in WvW on my warrior. Longbow also gives me decent ranged attack and pretty good ranged AoE abilities.
Things I dont like:
Less damage than my guardian; due to guardian’s GS abilities being superior to warrior’s GS abilities. Also, It’s easier to tag enemies with my guardian because of his 600-range AoE attack with staff. I have a harder time tagging enemies on my warrior.
Thief
I run shortbow/dual-pistol or shortbow/dagger-pistol with zerker stats
Things I like:
Great mobility and stealth, which allows me to escape many situations. AoE (from shortbow) is also pretty good and somewhat spammable. Good for ganking
Things I dont like:
Squishy, if you cant get away with stealth/mobility. Ranged AoE is also somewhat short (900 range)
Ranger
I run longbow/GS with zerker stats
Things I like:
1500 range on longbow.
Things I don’t like
Very little ranged AoE abilities. Just one AoE from longbow, and it’s on 24 sec cooldown (after trait). Most of the time, I’m limited to single target DPS. I get the least # of bags on my ranger. Because of this, I barely play my ranger in WvW.
Conclusion:
If you like dishing out heavy AoE damage and putting lots of CC, then I recommend elementalist, or engineer (I’m currently leveling an engineer).
If you like being a front-line melee, then guardian or warrior.
If you like ganking or roaming solo (or with small group) then, I’d say thief; I enjoy roaming on guard and warrior too.
Again, this isn’t comprehensive, as your experience may be drastically different with different build/weapon. But generally speaking, elementalists are good for AoE damage + CC while guard and warrior are good for front-line melee. My personal favorites are elementalist, guardian, then warrior, and I get good amounts of bags on all 3 of them.
P.S. I can’t comment on other professions because I don’t have them :P
(edited by BAEK.8561)
I have a lvl 80 Thief, and I’m in a process of leveling an engineer for WvW purposes.
I just couldn’t stand the 900 range on ranged attack (cluster bomb). Compared to Engineer’s 1500 range on grenades, 900 felt way too short.
I have to say though that I still don’t quite get the issue with the graphics.
I take issues with the implementation, rather.
See, few Guardians complain about the looks of their books. Or Elementalists about their weapons. But the thing is, the Guardian book serves an important purpose: It tells you that hey, this Guardian is using her ultimate right now!
Now in theory, Engineer packs do exactly the same thing. They’re all fairly distinct (even bomb <-> grenades), and they tell someone which kit you’re using at a glance.
Only problem is: We use them constantly. It’s not a skill with a cooldown. And I’m not quite sure that’s a smart implementation. If kits were stronger, but came with a limitation (have to build up fuel again, restock grenades, restock gunpowder, and so on), then I could see the point in clearly announcing when I’m using one.
If it’s for balance purpose of alerting the enemy what the engineer is using, then can we have something much smaller like a kit that goes around the belt? Right now, it’s half the size of my character and frankly, thats all I see. I don’t see what my character is wearing for armor, I don’t see the back piece, and I don’t see the weapon. All I see is a hobosack.
If your argument against the suggestion above is that it’ll be too small to notice, then so are daggers and pistols. But we have no problem identifying daggers or pistols by what kind of skills are being cast with the weapons. So size/visibility shouldn’t be an issue.
Also, comparison with Guardian’s book is a bit off in my opinion. Guardian’s book is a skill which is only temporary, and so are conjured weapons – they’re skills that temporarily replace the character’s weapon. Engineer’s kits are permanent and so I think they deserve more attention than temporary weapons.
This would only complicate things even more. You’d have this artificial line that you’d have to dance around. Basically, everyone would be required to crunch numbers to find the perfect power/toughness balance where one has enough power to do damage, but not enough power to go over the damage cap (since anything over would be wasted).
Terrible idea.
I’d say a better idea would be to increase the effectiveness of toughness, making it a more attractive stat.
What timezone do you play? If you play NA (5pm – 10pm server time), then any server will probably “work” in terms of WvW.
If you play during any other timezones, then you might want to head over to one of the T1 servers – Jade Quarry, Blackgate, Sanctum of Rall, for “optimal” WvW experience. What I mean by “optimal” is you’ll have a sizeable group of people on the maps 24/7. One of the reasons why I love GW2 WvW is large scale battles, and you’ll see plenty of that in T1 matches.
If you’re worried about queue times, I’m currently on SoR and we only queue all 4 maps on Friday nights until about 9pm server time. After that, you’ll usually find at least one map where there isn’t a queue.
BTW, you don’t have to be competitive to be in a T1 WvW server; I only play on weekends and still have a blast playing WvW whenever I can.
(I can’t speak for PvE, as I strictly only do WvW)
P.S. JQ, BG, and SoR are all North American English-speaking servers (in case you didn’t know)
Preferably fast and cheap.
How fast is the Queensdale champ train? At my pace, I can get about 2lvls per hour from doing map completion in zones around my level. Would Queensdale champ train be faster than that?
I also read from another thread (3 months old) that said Crown Pavillion in human starting city is one of the fastest. Can anyone confirm this? I haven’t been to that place since the living story ended, so I assumed people don’t go there anymore.
I have 5 lvl 80s, and I’ve just recently rolled another profession. My goal is to get to lvl 80 as fast as possible so I can jump into WvW and do some damage; I know I don’t have to be lvl 80 to do WvW, but I just cant stand doing pitiful damage as an uplevel. What’s the fastest way to get to lvl 80? (I’m not interested in exploring areas, as I already had enough of that with 5 of my other chars).
Hey guys. I just rolled my engineer and I was wondering if my weapon damage affects how much damage my kits (like flamethrower, grenades) do? Thanks!
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I just rolled an engineer and my goodness, the hobosack is horrendous. Makes me want to quit playing my engineer.
+1 that this game is all about cosmetics. Anet above all else should know that statement to be true, since most of their revenue comes from gem store purchases that alter player’s cosmetics.
Could it be that the balance of this game just isn’t that good ?
Or is it something else.
9/10 of that 3/4 is probably Warrior, so everything is right in the world.
In WvW? For me I definitely see more guardians than warriors.
And to be more fair, I’d say about 70 – 80% in WvW are either guardian or warrior.
The only question I have is, when is the karma train starting? Holiday Karma train tomorrow???
Karma train? With how close SoR and TC’s ppt is?
Exactly, dont you know, they’re going to pull more 15+ hour shifts to catch up, then brag about beating a T2 server at the end of the week like they’ve been known to do in the past…. or maybe SoR’s a changed server, which would be awfully nice, and appreciates how actually close this matchup has been.
Edit: Ok JQ, you can take your boot off our throats any time now.
Are you sure? SoR is (generally speaking) not known to pull off crazy hours. The server known to pull off crazy hours is BG because their primary goal is to win. SoR has always been more about fights, rather than winning.
Burning Arrows (Tactivs IX) trait:
Longbow damage is increased against burning foes. Reduces recharge on longbow skills (by 20%)
Does the 20% recharge reduction apply to longbow’s burst skill (Combustive shot)?
If it does, does it stack additively or multiplicatively with discipline trait?
To be honest, I think this video listed below is what really got me thinking. I do very well on my Mesmer but wanted do do something more with direct damage.
Many other classes can do amazing things in a 1v1 if you’re specifically traited and geared for it. Here’s a warrior one:
Needless to say, both of those builds would not fair well in a zerg vs zerg fight in WvW, hence that is why I don’t run them.
Thanks guys. From the looks of it, it seems like to make GS work, you either need CC from utility skills, or from another weapon. Otherwise, it’s just a weapon for mobility.
I also have 80 warrior and 80 guardian, and interestingly enough, I’m on a similar boat as you; wanting to leave my warrior. Though, I don’t think you should delete it :P Are you talking about WvW/PvP? If not, ignore my post, since I hardly ever PvE.
On your warrior, if you’re running GS + other weapon that doesn’t have CC (like longbow), you’ll be very frustrated because you can’t dish out that much damage with just your GS alone. You need to couple it with other CC utilities, or other weapon with CC, like the hammer, to make GS’s 100B even viable in a PvP fight. Since I like running melee + ranged weapon combo, GS on my warrior was very dissatisfying, because I was limited to just auto-attack (which is weaker than guardian’s auto-attack) and occasional whirlwind attack.
Luckily enough, I already have a lvl 80 guardian; actually my guardian was my very first character. Both my warrior and guardian have similar stats (2800 – 3000 armor, rest into zerker) and traits (defensive traits). It’s amazing how much more damage I can do on my guardian’s GS compared to warrior GS. All 5 of Guardian’s GS skills are incredibly useful, especially in a 1v1 fight. In my opinion, guardian’s GS wins hands down over warrior’s GS in terms of damage and fun. You won’t get the incredible mobility warriors get with their GS, though, so that’s a tradeoff. But in most cases, I found leap of faith (GS #3) and pull (GS #5) sufficient in having my face up against my target.
Guardian’s ranged weapon sucks though.
I’d say roll a guardian, go to sPvP, and play some games using GS. You can try the same thing on your warrior. Since you automatically become lvl 80 in sPvP, you get to see the pros and cons of each class yourself without fully committing to it.
Thanks guys for your input.
Now, for all you guys saying GS is awesome, just curious, have you guys tried GS on guardian? Not to make this into a class comparison thread, but I just simply don’t see what a GS warrior brings to the table that GS guardian doesn’t (except mobility). GS guardian dishes out so much more damage than my GS warrior that I’m thinking of retiring my warrior in favor of my guardian. But before I do so, I thought I’d ask for final input in this regard, before I officially retire a character I invested in so much.
Thanks for the reply. Numbers also seem to suggest warrior GS is inferior to guardian GS. So then, for all those running warrior GS in WvW or PvP, why?
I have a GS warrior with 3k toughness and rest zerker gear with 0/0/30/30/10 build and healing signet. My other weapon is a LB. I ran into other players in several occasions in WvW for 1v1 duel. Long story short… my goodness, how do you do it? First of all, it’s difficult to hit them with skill 1. And even when I’m hitting them, I’m doing pathetic damage even with fury + 8 stacks of might (from elite signet and “for great justice”). Skill #2,4, and 5 are basically useless and skill #3 seems to be very situational; often times I use #3, only to find myself being kited afterwards because the skill moves me too far from the target.
Now, I also have a guardian with similar stats with 0/10/30/30/0 running GS as well. The difference in what I can do on my guardian over warrior is night and day. Firstly, ALL of my Guardian GS skills are useful. I find myself using #2,3,4,and 5 whenever they’re off cooldown. I can bring my target down MUCH faster on my guardian even though both my guard and war have similar gear/stats. And to add to the injury, guards’ #1 does more damage than war’s #1.
Am I doing something wrong? I definitely don’t consider myself a pro, but things are literally faceroll on my guardian. On my warrior? facepalm. To those who run GS in PvP/WvW, how do you guys do it? Have you tried GS guardian? I keep hearing about this warrior doing great damage, but I’m definitely not seeing it. I’d say the only thing my warrior is better at than my guardian is running away from a fight (with #3 and 5).
BG worked their kitten off when you got IRON.
WRONG. Let’s not forget history. Your score tanked and your WvW population plummeted when IRON came to SoR. In one week, BG went from winning by 50k points to losing by 50k over SoR; was IRON worth 100k points? (remember, this was before stomping gave points, so final score was much lower). SoR then proceeded to go undefeated for few weeks.
Remember, IRON transferred over just a week or two after BG got RISE and WM from T2. Before IRON, when BG got those additional guilds, you guys were dominating. After IRON transferred? We had to beg you guys to come out and fight us. Many of the BG guys that were dominating and PvD’ing day after day were nowhere to be found with IRON in the battlefield.
I’m not saying this to say that you guys didn’t put up a fight. I do acknowledge that many of your guilds still came out to fight back when IRON came. But the truth is that large portion of your players (PvE / fairweather) simply didn’t show up. Every server has their own share of PvE and fairweather players.
Yes, SoR did lose a lot of fairweathers with ZDs transferring, but a lot of the hardcore WvW roamers and guilds are still coming out to fight. Having said that, BG, SoR and any other servers are no different than one another in the respect that we all have fairweathers who come and go and hardcores who stick through and fight. A server isn’t an autonomous being or a hive-mind, but rather a collection of many different minded players.
Now, one may say we have more fairweathers than BG does. Do we? Maybe, maybe not. who knows. How would one even prove that? So let’s not even go there :P Chances are, most people reading the forum are already hardcore, dedicated WvW players. So you won’t get more people to come out by taunting us because people reading the forum are already out there fighting you.
BG also never gave up when our SEA/OCX was having issues when MERC left.
BG also worked overtime to bring down JQ the first time it happened because if you recall we came from behind back then as well while being weaker than JQ back in those days.
This, I can’t say, since SoR wasn’t fighting BG when that happened. So I’ll take your word for it.
Thanks guys for all the suggestions.
I installed a 600W PSU and Radeon 7870 to my system. The game runs smoothly (40+ FPS on max setting) when there aren’t too many players around. But the frame-rate drops to about 16-20 FPS during huge WvW fights or when I zone into LA with a lot of people. I tried reducing the graphics setting, but it doesn’t seem to help; the only thing that seems to help slightly is if I reduce “number of high quality characters” (or settings related to number and quality of character models).
I’m monitoring my CPU usage and it seems to be around 60%, and my GW2 application is consuming about 4.7GB of memory when running. Could my RAM be the bottleneck? Thanks!
How is the final damage calculated?
Let’s say I have 3000 AP and 1000 Weapon damage
What would the formula be for Strike – Damage: 296 (0.8), against a target with 2500 toughness?
Will the real SoR please stand up? This is shaping up to be an embarrassingly one-sided massacre.
ofc we cant compete you’re a super stacked server and if anything its embarrassing for BG to do this
Didn’t SoR and TC stomp BG last weekend? What happened to that SoR?
Besides even if BG is super stacked SoR could still have done something like held Valley in EB. The keep was T3 with a million pieces of siege inside, and the queue would ensure that SoR cannot be outnumbered. And yet when I log on today SoR have … nothing … on the map, with even TC ticking more points.
Earlier this week BG was fully queued on all four maps a lot of the time, but SoR still doesn’t have to lose this badly. I’m really disappointed.
Can’t say much, since I mostly play during late NA, but it seems like a lot of us are simply demoralized. Last night at 9-10pm PST, at one point we were outmanned on TC BL and EB. BG BL had some of us on the map, but after we lost hills, we went outmanned shortly. Only SoR BL had a queue.
I’m guessing the point gap + transfer of skilled and organized guild (ZD) took a toll on our morale. And the new PvE content timing couldn’t be better. So I think PvE is where most people are at (or perhaps some other game).
Sucks that you have no one to fight :/
FYI Ballymun, first post less that one month ago per his history. He hiding his uplevel ranger amongst the ZD blob and just mad he gaining little xp pvdooring.
I rarely even frequent the forums here apart from reading any updated patch notes.
We have our own guild and server forums which I prefer to put any effort in too.Less QQ, more pew pew, SORe losers…
Cool. Your name calling only displays your maturity level. Posting stuff like this only does disservice to your own server.
To the rest of BG, I still <3 you guys. Looking forward to more great fights once I’m off work!
I thought SoR were “in it for the fights” and “don’t care about PPT” but yet IRON keep running away and avoiding ZDs and spend more time on the forums here PVkitten.
You know well that BG were significantly outnumbered during SEA and EU timezones by both SoR and JQ, one single guild from Russia joining BG has changed that, one guild has destroyed all your own EU guilds, one. Not 4 or 5, not even 2 or 3, one new guild has IRON running with their tails between their legs.
How many guilds from Europe have SoR got in the last couple of weeks ? Was it not 2 new EU guilds absorbed into IRON for a start ?
Less QQ on the forums, get yourself in game and fight ZDs, they’ll more than welcome it if it’s fights you want. Unless it’s not and you prefer to keep running away from them and hiding behind the forums and other excuses…
TLDR; Less PVF, more WvW, stop the QQ, BG got one new EU guild, one.
I guess people (such as yourself) still don’t understand that there’s 4 hour difference between Great Britain vs Moscow, Russia, and 3 hour difference between Western Europe (France, Italy, Germany, etc) vs Moscow. And for this reason, it’s tricky to consider ZD as a EU timezone guild. ZD’s fill in an awkward timeslot that is too late for SEA and a bit too early for EU. It’s almost a category on its own. Come on, guys, learn your geography.
So yes, they will have devastating impact because no guilds are really playing at that time. And no, you can’t blame other EU guilds for not fighting during that timeslot because most of us have a life and need to be at work. Do you expect IRON to fight ZD when most of their members are still at work?
So Much QQ over ZD’s moving to BG which gives them a bit more strength in a weak timezones.
When we (IRON) joined SOR helping there EU i dont recall mass forum emo. please just grow up and enjoy the fights when you get them, its getting really pathetic…If any ZD Guys are up for open field fights around EU times throw me a whisper
Haha what? You must be joking. The week IRON moved over to SoR was like the floodgates of QQ opened on the forums. It was also the same week SoR won #1 for the first time in history.
I’m not saying that to justify anything, but let’s not forget what actually happened when IRON moved over to SoR. In my opinion, it’s far more than the amount of QQ surrounding ZD now :P
This is most likely what’s happening between BG and SoR
Undisputable facts:
1. BG has a greater total population than SoR
2. SoR has a higher percentage of players who focus on WvW
3. WvW Season has attracted a lot of PvEers looking for achievement points
On weekends, I’m sure both servers queued all 4 maps almost 24/7. This means both servers were fielding equal numbers at all times. BG most likely had a lot more percentage of PvE players running around in WvW than SoR did, simply due to facts #1 and 2. And because dedicated WvW players are generally better at WvW than PvE players, SoR won more fights because they had more WvW players on the map than BG did. The PPT over the weekend (and steamrolling of BG BL) confirm this.
Now on weekdays, where queues start to drop especially during off-times, the outcome of the battle shifts from quality over quantity to quantity over quality. The server with superior numbers will outshine the other. When the other server is simply outmanned, it really doesn’t matter if you’re fielding PvE players or WvW players, because any player (PvE or WvW) will always beat doors. So, since BG has a much greater PvE population that is all over WvW hungry for some achievement points, there is no way SoR can match BG’s numbers. The pattern has been like this between BG and SoR for a long time, with SoR performing better on weekends and BG performing better on weekdays. But it has become more severe with WvW Season attracting even more PvE player base, which benefits BG more than it does SoR, simply because BG has a much greater PvE population.
All in all, who cares. This isn’t to say that one server is better than the other. We should all just be grateful for great fights because what would BG or SoR be without the other?
Against warrior: Your mobility skill on daggers is just as good as a warriors, so stop whining about warrior mobility.
You’re kidding, right?
Because it’s not possible that this statement is serious, ever….Warriors main mobility skills are #5 and #3 on GS, right?
GS #5 dash distance is just as long as elementalist dagger air #4.
And #3 dash distance is slightly better than dagger fire #3.
And warriors dont have any teleportation skills. Eles do.
Or are you talking about other warrior mobility skills?
I play both warrior and ele in WvW. Do you even play both? because you can’t be serious..
For some reason, GS #5 travels longer than dagger air #4. I don’t know if it’s because it’s buggy or what but GS#5 always gets me further than my dagger air #4. Now, comparing cooldowns? You have no argument here.
Dagger fire #3 is absolute crap in terms of distance traveled. Doesn’t even come close to GS #3 whirlwind attack. Not to mention switching between air to fire invokes attunement cooldown, which warriors don’t ever have to worry about.
If you’re invoking ele’s utility skills, like teleport, then you also have to invoke warrior’s utility skills, like bulls charge and banners.
If ele is using dagger, that’s all he has in terms of weapon, unless he’s out of combat. Warriors? they can switch between 2 weapon sets, and their 1h sword #2 also has a big leap.
Nobody comes even close to warriors in terms of mobility. Maybe thieves, which I also play. Elementalists? Not even close.
OP: That is weird. I actually thought they may have stealth nerfed Meteor Shower like they did with Arcane skills last patch. Mine seem to hit from 2k-4k where a couple months ago there were more of the occasional 5k, 6k hits.
I was thinking it could just be how many Warriors and heavies are out there these days, but not sure, hope it wasn’t a nerf .
I noticed that too. I made this Ele a year ago. Full berserker 30/20/0/0/20 and when I first started playing WvW, I remember critting regularly for 5k to 6k on a meteor hit. I retired my Ele to play my warrior and guardian, and only recently came back to my Ele about 2 months ago. Now my meteor hits are critting around 3k.
Now, you may theorize that back then, more people were upleveled and running in zerker gear, and thus my meteor shower did more damage than it does now. But I also recall that my meteor hits were hitting for at least 4k on veteran guards.
I’m really curious too, but then, I don’t have enough data to make a claim. So its all ¯\(?)/¯
I found out the same thing lately. It seems eles deal by far the most damage to a zerg – by far. One ele can dish out such insane amounts of damage especially due to the buff to the radius of the hits. I tried one meteorshower on a golem and one golem is being hit 8-9 times usually. That means if not everyone mass zerg on one spot for the 5aoe limit of kittens chances are very high that you will get hit many times by the same ele in a zerg fight. And even if you get hit only 4 times thats sometimes 20k damage being hit for 5k which is rather realistic.
If he uses this trick then you might be simply dead even in a tanky setup. In my opinion they should take a look at this imbalance. No single person should have such a huge effect on an entire zerg.
I will probably make an ele too now because if you think about it – the ele is THE damage dealer in the zerg who damage wise probably outshines every other class by a factor of 5-10 with meteorshower.
You’re more than welcome to roll an Ele and try it out yourself. Just don’t come here and complain about the time you wasted.
As for meteor shower, it is devastating. I’d say probably one of the strongest, if not the strongest AoE spell in the game. But it also has many tradeoffs:
1. 4 seconds of channeling. That’s 4 seconds of not moving, which can be very dangerous if you’re in PvP or WvW where movement is key to survival.
2. Easily avoidable. After you cast it, there’s a 1 second delay before the first meteor hits. Also, since it’s damage over 7 seconds and the location where meteors land is random, you can easily move out of the AoE area and not get hit by a single meteor.
All in all, I don’t see too many complaining about staff Ele’s in WvW. Meteor shower + tornado is another topic, and I personally think should be nerfed (nerf the combo, NOT meteor shower). Also, Ele’s other staff damaging abilities are rather terrible, so I think it’s justified to have one strong skill to make up for our other lackluster skills.
Hmm ok thanks for the suggestion.
What about my CPU? Is my current one strong enough to handle GW2? Or is my graphics card currently the bottleneck?
I’ve been looking at Radeon 7870 as a possible graphics card upgrade. I’m wondering if my PSU will need an upgrade as well. My current PSU wattage is at 350W and according to this website,
http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/
the recommended PSU wattage with Radeon 7870 is ~340W. Is that site reliable? or should I look at replacing my PSU to something like 500W?
Thanks!
With my current hardware, if I try to run the game at maximum graphics setting, it becomes somewhat unpleasant (around 15FPS). So currently, I’m running the game at roughly about 70% of the potential max.
I don’t know much about computer hardware, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Which component should I look at upgrading if I want to be able to run GW2 at max settings smoothly?
Current hardware:
Intel® Core™ i7-870;
8GB DDR3-1066 SDRAM;
ATI® Radeon™HD5770;
Judging by his post history, I don’t think he’s trolling. Unless he’s a baby troll.
:P
I just wish they gave us back 1200 range on #2. 900 feels so short..
That’s very strange. I ended up doing Sigil of Force (5% damage) on main hand pistol, and Sigil of Fire (30% on crit to trigger flame blast) on my off hand pistol. I noticed that the Sigil of Fire not only procs when I use Unload, but also when I auto attack (remember my main hand pistol has 5% damage).
Perhaps Sigils are “unique” stacked, meaning two of same sigils only count as one.
A little late but Hello Fort Aspenwood!! This is the first time SOR and FA have been matched up.
SOR fought FA during the 2 day matchups…….
Yea, I remember that. Thats when FA night capped us by like 600+ ppts and totally destroyed us during oceanic/sea time. This was back when SoR was ranked 17 or so.
SoR meets FA for the 2nd time after a year, and it’s interesting to see how much the tables have turned.
