I just decided to come back to the game after a 2 year leave to find an issue while downloading. The launcher keeps crashing, I’ve been all over the internet and nothing works. The one thing I couldn’t try is removing some lavasoftDll. Tried using uninstaller pro (not on it’s list of things to uninstall) and two other uninstallers and nothing worked. All my drivers are up to date as well. here is the crash detail.

It’s more to it than the system GW2 has. GW2 suffers from the same problem nearly all mmorpgs suffer from; every tom, dick and harry wants a guild of their own. To top this off, the solo nature of the game itself doesn’t seem to encourage guild play. No guild halls yet, no guild quests, no guild gear, no calendar to plan evens no guild anything. Things that have become standard over the years, GW2 leaves them out at launch. sure save some for later but give SOMETHING for guild members to chew on in the mean time. GW2 is an odd mmorpg where one can basicly do everything himself so another reason must me made to make guilds worth while. and while guild wars has nothing to do with guild vs guild combat, i see that it’s one of the few reasons A-net can make that actually gives guilds a purpose.

They have it there for a reason. So people wouldn’t go running off killing things and be able to do so without taking a single hit. now in the pic you posted, i’ll agree that is a bit dumb seeing as the mob should be able to get to you.

Honestly, the people who run on with WE MUST USE THE TERRAIN!!! IT’S MORE FUN!!! are only basically saying “we wanna kill everything including bosses in safety.” Most monsters are soloable, and you only run into those odd situations like you see in the pic once in a while. At worse this is a mildly annoying issue and is nowhere near as game breaking as people try to make it sound imo.

Also INB4LOCK/DELETE.

3. No armor rep is the only place other than WP where you can sink gold. it’s also a punishment for dying too much. as for people loging off before dying in pvp, do what is done in almost all other mmos. Make it so you can’t log off in combat, or make it so you need to wait 15 seconds before your toon disappears.

4. if i’m not mistaken, the ones who stomp bugs and the ones who make new content are different teams. Dealing with bugs isn’t an easy task i’m sure they are doing all they can. at the same time however adding more content may very well add to the problems they are trying to fix. so i’m on the fence with this one.

7. If you ask me, they should have more verity in the store at this point. This game is the most barren cash shop i ever seen. skins and comsmetics can give them more income without them having to nerf drops.

Long story short, this is a skill that some mobs in the game already have (the asclonaean ghosts and some centaurs) where in for a few seconds they can’t be damaged (the word "block keeps poping up instead of a damage number). the OP is asking to take this to the next level by making the shield big enough for several people the hide behind (maybe slamming the shield onto the ground and it generates a force field or something). this would not be spammable an i’d like to add that this should NOT work on omni-directional AOE attacks (i.e only frontal attacks this can hold)

I admit the idea is interesting on paper but i don’t think it would be very good in practice it would take a hell of alot of coordination to effectively use this. in the heat of combat, people would utterly kitten this up. the concept isn’t bad, and a art of it is already in the game, but i honestly don’t think this would be as good as it sounds.

To date, i have yet to play an mmorpg that actually requires skill. I mean REAL skill, that’s not to say i don’t like this game, but when i hear people gripe about how SKILLED players are losing because of an in-game mechanic i can’t help but get a little bit irked. This at it’s core, is no different than any other mmorpg where you have a healer that can res you. The only difference here is the fact that everyone can revive you. This however is offset by the fact that you can still attack the downed player, and you can attack the one trying to revive him, knockbacks and AoEs anyone?

If one group of players keep reviving downed players, it’s up to the other side to minimize how many the other side can get back up and running. In wvwvw, at least, there can be many classes with knockbacks and AOEs yet I’ve seen people just flat out ignore the downed players as if they are actually dead. Just like how Team 1 rev’s it’s downed players, team 2 should either continue to slam the downed player, or hit the rev’er. I find that one or 2 hard hits would send most people trying to rev rolling back cos they themselves don’t want to die.

So no. The downed state does not need to be removed, it needs to be REFINED. Some classes may have downed skills that make them too much of a pain to deal with considering the downed state is suppose to be a sort of last stand. I can’t say for sure since the only class i really play as is the eng.

NOTE: what I’m saying applies to large groups vs large group as i’ve no exp in 1vs3 pvp. But even in this situation i think there is a way to deal with a downed player.

Your account can get compromised in other ways than gold sellers. Viruses and spyware can also screw you over. I agree with added security, but i feel that a password is pointless because if they can nab your account name and password, they can easily get the password for your bank as well.

To be fair however, one’s computer having viruses may not necessarily be the gamers fault. This is something i learned the HARD way. Had a relative that came to visit and he went crazy downloading crap behind my back>_> next thing i know, I’m canceling my debit card for fraud.

Like everyone of us. And why I shall be polite with Anet? They sold me a product I don’t like. If I buy LED TV or PC which is not as better as seller said, I go and demand for better one. It’s simple. How much I worth? Infinitely much, like every human. Show little self-respect pls.

Swapping a TV is different than a service i would say. Example you are paying for cable SERVICES. You are unhappy with the channel selection they give you. You can protest all you want but they will NEVER give you a channel that is outside the package you paid and they will certainly not break their necks to get you a channel they don’t have all together. Not sure about the rest of the world, but that’s how it is in my country. A TV is a different matter entirely. A tv is something you and ONLY you will have as opposed to a service that has to deal with thousands of customers. the owners of the service must think of the general happiness of all it’s consumers AND do so in a way that ensures they don’t end up wasting cash.

It will always boil down to the fact that services can legally do what they want because the consumer agreed to the fact. Not sure about this game, but there are some games that can BAN you for no reason at all if they wanted to. They have MUCH more freedom because you basically give them the right to, and with good reason. If every idea in this forum were to be added into this game, it would be completely ruined in short order. If you are unhappy with what you have then leave the game for a while then come back.

Yes war. I personally think they left the names out in wvwvw because they wanted to give it more of a warlike feel. this is simply my opinion but it does hold water. Quite frankly, not seeing names is a trivial issue in the myhem of wvwvw where AOEs are flying around every waking second, and 50+ players are on the screen one time. Yes ou’ll run into a lone wolf time and again and you yourself my run solo but when it all boils down the only thing that matters in wvwvw is capturing forts, supply lines, towers etc.

The issue that you bought up was that this game has bad raids, i was simply pointing out that there are no raids in this game. you say those bosses can be solo’d, i’m sure they can. However can you solo them when you first encounter them? doubtful.

Anet must listen to your demands? LOL any company that would put themselves in such a position would go out of business faster than they can blink. If they had to make YOUR demands come true then they would have to do the same to every single customer. now sit down and really think about how foolish your statement is.

NEW reason for weapon swap/slot for Elem/Eng

This idea just for a space slot is funny. However, if this idea was added for convenience it would be better. the extra slot space is a pointless argument, but in the face of the fact that alot of the weapons have very similar icons, and you can pick up weapons from mobs, this would be a good idea.

Keep in mind that you can swap only OUT of combat. It’s annoying if you have several weapons and nearly full inventory when you want to change your weapon type. I’’m using a staff, then the uge to use daggers hits me, so after the fight the swap button unlocks and i can click it to get my daggers.

It’s nothing that’s really important, but it would be nice to have if only for a little bit of ease

this is one reason why so many mmorpgs have a counter where the characters just stand there for 10-15 seconds before the character actually disappears. this is particually important in pvp oriented games. i don’t understand why something like a 10 second countdown wasn’t added.

Knew it would only be a matter of time before people bashed the fact that you basically demanded these changes to happen.

The idea of not having names in wvwvw is like this. In war, you don’t know who you’re killing. At least i think that’s part of the reason.

Raids? This game has raids? Sure big bad dragons but they are just normal bosses that can be handled with a normal sized party (some exceptions may apply)

Guild can indeed be improved and they WILL be. They plan to add guild halls in the future. And GW2 isn’t about guild vs guild battles.

I seriously doubt most eng DON’T use turrets. Turrets, though static and easy to destroy (traits can beef them up tho), can save your butt. Sometimes they pull aggro, giving you time to regen your health, the thumper turret can send surrounding mobs flying, leaving you and another turret to deal more damage, the rocket turret can do an aoe attack, the rifle can bleed, the net can immoblize and the flame might burn (not sure i don’t really use the flame turret).

The turrets give a little extra damage which never hurts. There is no reason NOT to use them when you can, and personally, they play a key role at times when i’m soloing. I can solo 3 mobs at a time with just my flame thrower, but i can handle more with the turrets. They don’t seem to be for up front use, use them with more tactics in mind and you’ll see that they are fine the way they are.

Honestly an ene isn’t THAT dependent on turrets to merit this. with a flamethrower, one can take up to 3 mobs at a time. Also, if you like turrets, the supply drop can be used while you wait for your main turrets to cooldown.

Alt-f4 while in WvW needs to change.

there is a thread about this that got locked. Don’t understand why since this is a really unfair problem. You bust your butt to win a fight and it gets stolen from you in such a way. this is why many mmorpgs have a 10 second timer after hitting the log out button. and why A-net didn’t add it is beyond me.

I ran into this problem a few times myself. Need to kill certain targets and said targets are deep in a sea of mobs. You need to fight through those THEN kill the target who is most likely a vet class mob or higher.I say yes to this idea.

In Eve online when you go logoffski your ship floats there for a good 15 minutes before it warps away and that is only assuming said ship is IN combat. If it’s out of combat it disappears right away. The same thing can be added here. There won’t be a need for a uber long wait before the character leaves. I think 2-5 minutes would be more than enough time to kill off someone.

Agreed. I suggested this several times in different threads. At a whooping 51 servers (or worlds not sure if there is a difference), and the map being so large, the playerbase would be spread too thin. this is the first mmorg i played with so many servers. One of the main points of an mmorpg (for me at least) is running into other players. I can be out soloing for hours without running into a single player on many of the maps. this is one of the main reasons mmorpg use few servers, some even use one single server (although that is impossible for this game).

Lets assume that 1,000,000 players are always active at the same time, you split them between the 51 servers and you end up with 20,000 roughly per server. Considering how large the entire map is, and the fact that Spvp and W3 have maps of their own, the population is split up even further. I understand that several servers are needed for the sake of W3 but why over 50? I’m far from the most tech savvy guy so if there is a reason for this then i would like someone to explain it to me, until then i will always be in agreement with threads like this.

Personally, i hope they do something like this simply for the sake of running into more people on the lower level maps. As for events, as someone said, all events (barring group events) are pretty soloable, even for a ranger. You may run into a few that it can’t handle, in which case you just move on to a different one.

I would LOVE some of the ungodly amount of servers merged so my adventure can feel more alive due to me running into other players more often and being able to do group events.

It’s high time people realized that the ones who complain are in the VAST minority. One of the few ways Anet can really guage what the community wants is by making polls for players to vote on. Maybe even going so far as to make the polls appear in game. This isn’t to say nothing is wrong with the game, but posts like this sometimes (not this time) makes it sound like every single player is angry at the devs.

Personally, i think the forums could potentially destroy any good mmorpg, but this is strictly my opinion.

It has been shown in another MMO that when the Devs started running surveys ingame they were hugely surprized that:
1) those on the forums were less then 10% of those playing
2) their answers were mostly opposite of those complaining in the forum

Ok you need a wake up call.

First off those that use the forum and especially those that whine and complain are a small fraction of the community.

Second; with lost shores a survey was emailed. If you didn’t fill it out. That your problem.

When I found out about this game. I swore not to continue to be one of the silent majority and allow these type of post to go unanswered.

Those happy with the game do not come to the forums. For the most part. They play the game and that it.

Anet is listening as thier meeting showed the other day.

I’ll forever say this. 50+ servers is too much for any freaking mmorpg. i can understand needing several servers for euro, players and east and west us players, but over 50 is EXTREME in my opinion.

To add to this, the speed of leveling is so high that it means players only really spend a few days on a map before moving on as opposed to a normal mmo where you linger for a while because you level up slower. Don’t get me wrong, i like the lack of grinding in this game, but that same grinding is the sole factor that kept players in one general area for weeks.

The Dynamic events are a great concept that didn’t take into account that when players move past the level of the map, they are unlikely to go back and honestly, why should they? We can say things like “they need to do things to get players out of orr!” But what CAN be done? Adding dungeons? Little pointless mini-games? I always here people say get people out of orr but i have et to see anyone give a suggestion as to HOW to go about doing that.

I would love to see more PVE content. i personally suggested making certain maps conquerable by NPC factions and have a set up similar to wvwvw to fight off the attack. I think that would have livened up some of the maps.

There is no denying the effectiveness of GMs. I can never really understand why Anet doesn’t have a single one. My personal experience with GMs in other games have been rather positive. Hell some of them even do crazy stuff for lols, like summon a giant boss that can’t be killed and sic it on an offender.

If they had GMs from the start then the Bot issue would not have gone so out of hand like it did in the beginning of the game. however, in the face of the fact that they Have over 25 servers (still think the number of servers is absurd in this day and age), even if they had GMs it may be a pain to deal with reports. But i’ll give credit where credit is due the number of bots has gone WAY down. I don’t run into them no where near as much as i used to anymore, so we know for sure A-net is doing something about it, they just don’t keep us u to date with their bot stomping.

I said it before and i’ll say it again. Any suggestions that improve the experience of those with disabilities i will back up FIERCELY. Especially ones that can be dealt with easily like this one (change uber red circle of doom to orange or green circle of doom). it’s not only in the best interest of those with disables, but in the best interest of those without as well since one never knows when life will throw a curve ball at you. from color blindness to a missing limb anything can happen to someone that can rusult in them saying good bye to their gaming. the very thought is kinda scary to me and my heart goes out to those who use to enjoy playing games but can no longer do so because of a disability.

This is a simple matter to deal with compared to other disabilities. But it is my wish that some day, developers put a broad array of features into their games so all those with disablites (within reason of course) can enjoy games.

Then it’s working as intended. The whole idea was to be different from other mmorpgs where a level 60 could god stomp a level 20 boss or solo a low level dungeon.

Even with the level restriction you still have your level 60 gear and traits active. So you’ll find that you’ll most likely handle that boss much better than when you yourself was at level 20.

I understand that the left guild halls out on purpose so they can add it later. i’m hoping for several things when they finally release the halls.

1. Guild events-

2. guild ranks- would be nice to know how is the top pvp, pve, wvw guilds

3. guild invasions (other guilds can attack your hall for goodies If you have an option enabled)

By all rights, guilds are a HUGE factor in mmorpgs and it kinda boggles me to see they didn’t have guilds set up better than they did at launch. I’m hoping they bring something totally kickbutt later down the road.

I understand thatsome mobs have a kitten re spawn rate. i think THAT is what he’s taking about. spawns that happen so fast that it’s almost impossible to fight off.

however if this is the case, why not just make it a point to NOT goes in areas you know several mobs will pop up?

The game isn’t really dying. every mmorpg i played has people saying that yet they are alive and still going strong. Don’t be fooled by what you see in forums the people who post there are just a tiny fraction of the total playerbase of the game, who by the way, have no access to data that would even imply that the game is dying. Example, data that would show new new accounts are being made while old ones are going inactive.

You do however make valid points. A few things in the game really did come back to bite it in the butt. The fast leveling and the soloing are two of the main culprits. Because you can hit the level cap so fast, they really have no need for friends or even a guild for other than running dungeons. This breaks the comradely that is present in most MMOrpg. Personally, i think if they were going to let leveling up this fast be in the game, they should have just axed leveling all together but it’s too late for that now. But this is strictly my opinion.

Another issue in my opinion is the fact that they have so many servers diving the total playerbase. I never seen a game with so many before. because of that even at it’s fullest some maps can fell empty at times, granted you would still have the same issue when everyone hits the level cap but less servers would make for even more intense WvWvW. This is why the guys making elder scrolls online are just using one server, so it can be easier for players to bump into eachother.

I’m sure the devs are working hard to deal with the issues, you just need to sit back and wait. Guild halls are something they are planing and hopefully they’ll have a bunch of stuff along with it.

The term GUILD wars refers to the story in the first game. why allow only 5 players in a party? because that is all you need. unless they make a dungeon that is made solely for a larger party, this idea is just…….wrong. One already has zombie zerging in dungeon why a larger group? why make the dungeons easier by adding more players?

You do know bot reports aren’t just banned from reports alone, they are followed up and vetted. Bots get flagged when multiple users report a bot, the screenshot system just makes it easier to report groups. When I see groups like this now I simply set it to PvE Environment, terrain, take a screenshot and title it “too many bots to report so I took a screenshot” players simply can’t be assed to sit there reporting 20 to 30 bots individually and they shouldn’t have to either. A new system like this would make things easier and give admins some additional proof they been to make a ban. Chances are those bots have already been individually reported prior to the screenshot taken while they are in a group.

I think you missed my point of me referring to “guild” wars. My point was that there are huge guilds and very little for guilds to do as a whole or in larger groups. No one said to make dungeons easier by allowing larger groups, if anything I would love super hard dungeons for larger groups that take a couple of hours to complete. I just feel as a game that is centered around guilds i.e “guild” wars there is very few things to do as a guild. 200+ size guild and you can only enter dungeons with 5 players at a time seems a little short sighted to me.

I’ll try the tab suggestion to see if it works.

I see nothing wrong with the idea. seeing as many of the weapon icons look very similar in the inventory, it would be nice to have it equiped so you can click a button to swap it out of combat. I don’t think it will be all that hard to pull off.

In before a Mod locks

The basis for all mmorpgs I’ve played thus far has always been about joining a guild/clan/faction/corp. Everyone works together toward a similar goal. However, the guild system in this game, and the very game itself makes joining a guild less needed. There is no real incentive to really have a guild outside a shared bank and a few buffs no guild events, no guild base (for now), no guild ranking (i think) at the moment, they need to work on ways to give people a vested interest in investing in a guild. The weapons are not really hurting this game, it’s the lack of things to do at level 80, and lack for incentive for level 80 character to go back to low level zones. these are problems that A-Net will no doubt fix over time.

As for the poster in this thread, as it has been stated. This is a public forum where anyone can post their ideas. In another thread a mod clearly stated that “In a suggestion you either agree or not, and you can add feedback.”

As far as the naming argument goes, you have “So this game is called Guild wars 2. It is about guilds, its in the name.” Don’t blame posters because you worded your statement in such a way where it can be interpreted in more than one way. I’m almost 100% certain any devs that read that thought the same thing as everyone else in this thread. when posting a suggestion, the OP must be very clear. You stated yourself that you don’t think anyone who posted here understands what you are getting at……….shouldn’t that be something of a concern for you? after all, what if the devs read this and they have the same thing in mind as the ones who replied here?

I’d also like to suggest a sort of auto-lock where it’s impossible to get stuff out of your bank until the time you set is up. With the lock in place, you can put stuff in but not out. This is more for those times where you know you are going to be away from the game for a long time so you can set the lock to run for days weeks or even months. However i THINK hackers may not be so willing to jump on your account and take stuff if they see they have towait30+ minutes to steal. i could be wrong tho.

Wouldn’t a key logger or something be able to take your code? Yes this idea is good, but by itself, after a while it’ll be like it’s not there at all. A hacker will eventually find a way to get your password.

first off they arent called group events. theyre called dynamic events.

Then why is there a [Group event] plastered next to the event name? obviously group events are a form of dynamic event that is meant for several people to handle. this isn’t a troll but a fact. but i acknowledge that it could be better, but to make them soloable? no. the issue is the fact that players can be hard to find on some maps (kessex hills being one of the most glaring examples on my home server). but i find that the maps are hardly ever as empty as they seem. a few shouts in the chat often results in enough players popping up. in the event that players are not showing up, just move along, you really don’t have to move THAT far off your course to stay clear of a boss.

i think the whole leveling system is working against the game in this regard. As opposed to other mmorpgs, where one could spend days or weeks in one area due to paced leveling, GW2 has it set where you can basically stay in a area for a day or two and move on.

Give new players incentive to say in maps long and give the guys chilling in orr a reason to get their butts back to the lower level areas.

as someone who is starting down the road of chef himself, i agree with this. i found myself with a ton different components that are useless by themselves but i have nothing at the moment to go with them to make the final product. end result, i have a bank full of things like dry ingredients, pasta, and roux. i can totally see this being a problem even if you have a ton of bank slots.

I’m really impressed with the WvWvW feature and i think it would be great if elements of said feature could be added to certain maps (or make new ones for it). Here is the basic outline for the idea.

1. The maps that have this feature active are conquerable. Every so often forces from Orr can invade the map from several points at a time. The idea here is that the map will have several war fronts that MUST be defended in order to successfully repel the attack. Failure to repel initial attack will result in the orr forces having a foothold in the map. The idea behind multiply fronts is to divide the zerg group so there would be a lower chance of an all powerful, godstomping force. that and in real war there is almost alwas more than one front.

2. The foothold the orr forces have makes them HARD to uproot even with an 80 player group. if the foothold isn’t taken care off they will slowly but surly take over the map. the more points they have, and the longer they have the foothold, the harder it will be to uproot them (they respawn faster if they own alot of the map.)

3. Just like in WvWvW, there are several types of capture points. towers, forts and castles. At least with the orr forces there would be no need for supply lines but maybe if other (living) evil factionstions were added the supply lines can be a factor.

4. In the event of a total map take over, payers must go through a quest chain that can result in FAILURE if they are not successful enough. The whole point of the quest chain basically revolves around building a forward base and retaking enough points so you can attack the castle were the big boss dwells. Attacking the castle before then is impossible because all mobs in and around the castle are invulnerable until at least 50-75% of the map is take back, or a quest that removes the invulnerability is completed (it could be both at times for an added twist)

5. Upon clearing out the castle, the boss appears. These bosses are MUCH harder than any other in the game and it will be even harder based on the success you had with the quest chain up to that point. If you didn’t win enough, you won’t have all the goodies needed to take him down like siege weapons from vigil, magical debuffers from priory, and powerful condition effects from the order. The boss that can appear isn’t fixed. you could end up fighting anything from a powerful shaman to a dragon.

Negative effects from having a map conquered:

I really can’t think of much but i think it should effect the surrounding maps in some way, like increased respawn rates or disrupted way points.

Other things that conquerable maps have that normal maps don’t:

1. Non-instanced dungeons- Again, it is understandably HARD quests in these dungeons. However they are not required to regain the map but they help alot by unlocking quests that can give make up for failures in the quests that would help against the final boss.

2. Only place where you can earn new and unique skins for weapons and armor.

3. Titles can also be earned here.

Other notes:

It should be set up where with each successful defense of the map (the starting invasion force) would get progressively harder. This means that eventually, they WILL get a foot hold.

Many of the quests only occur ONCE so their success matter. failed that escort quest for the vigil that had vital supplies in order to build the special siege weapon for the final boss? you’re outta luck. See the quest where you had to kill off high ranking targets that are powerful summoners? if you fail that then you’ll have to deal with strong summons time and again. Several of these difficulty altering quest can happen at the same time, and they are on a time limit. Again this helps combat the zerg groups by splitting them up.

Some maps can have strategic spots. like a vital chokepoint that forces MUST go through in order to continue conquering the map. these can serve for some of the most intense fighting in the entire map. as long as that pont is defended, it’s impossible to get more than 50% of the map.

The forces that can invade maps are not limited to orrian forces. near the human side of the map, they have to deal with Centaurs, the charr need to deal with flame legion or separatists, sylvri dealing with the court and the asura deals with the inquest. each invading faction should have something that sets them apart. example, the forces of orr may use intense zerg tactics, the inquest may use somewhat similar tactics via the use of golems while other factions may be a bit more tactical.

due to the importance of quests in this concept, a mission’s board should be made at the forward base and forts that can show what quests are currently active so players can know what to gun for.

I love the ele as is. All you need to do is change the weapon for the situation before you get in a fight. example: if you’re going to fight a tough mob solo, equip daggers. and use those bleeds earth magic has and widdle your target down all the while keeping away from him.

Weapon swapping really isn’t that necessary. like the eng, an ele can even summon weapon swap would just be a tad wrong.

But honestly speaking, you’ll alwas hear people make WoW cracks because it’s the top mmorpg out there, although for the life of me i can’t understand how it kept the top spot for so long. I think the players of GW2 simply want GW2 to be as far away from the cookie cutter mmorpg setup as possible. However, as the OP said, there ARE some idea that could do will in this game that has been done in those other mmorpgs.

Also about only needing to hit a mob once, is that really true? I’ve noted cases where i hit a mob more than once and still don’t get exp. me thinks it’s a bit more to it than that.

All in all, i’d say by thankful your gear doesn’t get nerfed with your level (assuming they stay the same)
