1) You or your friend are currently dishonored.
2) One of you haven’t met the PvP Rank requirement of rank 20 for participating in ranked matches.
3) You’re in a group with someone from another region (NA vs EU).
Just for clarification; Is this change gonna affect outside of sPvP, like in WvW where the pulls/knocks from players into structure have been just as detrimental?
Yeah, all player used knockback and pulls anywhere will be affected.
Monster knockback and pulls are not being changed for now.
We’re actually working on adjusting how the /stuck command works in PvP maps now. It won’t be an instant death, but it will work much more reliably. Also, should provide some better feedback when used.
Additionally, we have a change we’re putting in for player used knockbacks & pulls that should greatly reduce the frequency this happens. It’s been going through testing now and if all goes well, will go out in the next few weeks.
Previously, if you had someone on your team disconnect from a match for 2 minutes or more, and your team loses the match, only the person who disconnected would lose rating.
The statues are showing up in new instances of the lobby now. We’ve closed the old instances off for joining. They will shut-down naturally as people end up in the newly spawned instances.
We have a potential change that we’re working on to to reduce instances of this happening. Probably not 100%, but hopefully a significant amount. If testing goes ok, we’re hoping it’ll be ready in time for PoF launch.
So, today my internet cut out for a brief moment whilst I was connecting to a PVP match. I attempted to reboot Guild Wars 2 to reconnect, but I was forced to search for my phone due to SMS authentication. When I did get back in the game, I was parked in the PVP lobby instead of being put in my match. I got to wait 5 minutes for my friend to finish losing the 4v5, and then we discovered that we couldn’t queue because we still had 11 minutes of dishonour.
The reason why I mention this on the forums is because I feel that people who run into technical difficulties for a variety of reasons are essentially treated exactly the same as people that ALT+F4 during pvp matches. I’m somewhat hoping that Anet could perhaps change that. I know I shouldn’t be queueing on bad Wifi during vacation, but I’m a PvP addict.
Missing a queue pop if you previously had 0 dishonor would only result in 3 minutes of being unable to queue for PvP. But before this happened, you had an abandoned match (you dropped from a match in progress) 1.5 hours before.
This causes the penalty to ramp up, hence the harsher penalty.
There is no reliable way to tell if someone dropped intentionally or not, so there will always be dishonor if you disconnect.
We’re hoping to reduce the gaps from what they were in the past. The season schedule is never set in stone though. It’ll change depending on our release schedule.
The tech needs some adjusting to work, but it’s something we’re working on.
Will you make it for all or just ASP?
Just ASP. The way the spectate stuff works currently doesn’t make it feasible to open it up to everyone. It would be nice if we were able to change this someday, but it would be quite a ways down the road.
I wish they gave us a WvW ability reset before adding Gliding. I foolishly spent all my points just before the patch (yeah, I know I can get more as I rank up but I want it nooooooooooooooowww /stamps foot).
The idea behind the new icons was that we weren’t pleased with the readability of the old ones. As others have noted, you had to already know what the rank art looked like to know whether someone had achieved a higher or lower rank.
That being said, considering the feedback, we’ll revert them.
So a reduction on the speed you are being pulled or knocked back would help reducing/fixing the issue? And would there be a trade off to it?
That’s what we’re planning to try internally soon. Hopefully, we can find a speed that largely feels the same. Potential trade offs would likely be just changing the way knockbacks/pulls feel. Slowing them down could make things feel a bit sluggish. And of course, slowing things down too much might actually feel like you’re getting CC’d longer.
Once we have the code change in, we’ll be going over it with the skills & balance team to evaluate whether it’s the right change to make.
The problem is being investigated. It’s a game wide issue right now, not related specifically to PvP maps. Unfortunately, I don’t have a time frame for you yet.
Honestly, I am surprised they are willing to nullify lost points for a D/C at all. Game starts off a little rocky there will 100% be people who decide to just d/c so they won’t lose rating. By making it less punishing if you lose via D/C you make it more likely to have false D/Cs as soon as someone perceives the game as being “lost”. And anyone who has played something competitive will have experienced people claiming a match is lost well before it really is, often in the opening 1/3 of the match.
“Thief didn’t cap home, GG” I am sure most have seen something similar. If that guy isn’t punished for D/Cing but is punished for playing through and losing then it isn’t hard to imagine him D/Cing and going to watch some tv for a bit. Preserving his rating.
If 2 teams are approximately equally matched against eachother, I would argue that even 10 seconds is enough to throw the match – because once the initial team fight is lost, there is a snowball effect where the losers continue to lose as they trickle on to nodes 1 by 1.
We’re definitely never going that low. People would be DCing every match, since there would be a relatively good chance to still win and then 0 risk of losing rating if you still lose the match.
Also, if your team trickles on to nodes 1 by 1 continually, you probably deserve to lose.
If you have a teammate DC for 2 minutes or more and you lose, you should not lose rating. Every case we’ve investigated of people still losing rating under these circumstances has turned out to be false. I attribute it to people having an altered sense of time during a match.
All that being said, we’ve been talking about possibly reducing the time. There are some considerations, like making match manipulation easier.
We’re currently thinking of trying 1 minute as a trial and keeping an eye on player behavior.
I reforged my pvp armor because I choose the wrong stats now you are telling me that it will be upgradeable to legendary but only if you didn’t reforge?
That is truly kittenty.
If it makes you feel any better, I’ve reforged probably 1.5 sets of ardent glorious into standard ascended armor. I cried a little as I was making the recipes for the PvP versions.
Unfortunately, when you mystic forge an item, you’re getting a completely new item. The system doesn’t know that the new ascended piece used to be something else.
Today I tried to port on usual spots and they didn’t work.
E.g. Temple of silent storm, temple point – can’t port (blink) on sides. Still can do it on altar point. Battle of Kyhlo – can’t port on midpoint sides from north, west, east but still can do it from south… Mb more broken maps/spots
Did only me experience this? It is big nerf for some classes.
In addition, we have removed prizes gained by the winning players and have cleared the statues. They will retain the titles for a short while until we can remove them in the future.
I just heard one of them was running around in wvw with the crown, confirm/deny please that the crown was removed please.
I will check with CS. If you could pm me details, that would help.
As many of you are aware, we received many reports that the winners of July’s Monthly tournament were not played by the owners of those accounts. After a thorough investigation, we have found that these accusations are true.
We are taking this very seriously. The following 10 players listed below have been given permanent dishonor.
Naru and alts
Nos and alts
Wakkey and alts
Toker and alts
Zeromis and alts
Asuna Proxy
Forever I Promise
Love Them Boons
Jolly Karen
Makus
In addition, we have removed prizes gained by the winning players and have cleared the statues. They will retain the titles for a short while until we can remove them in the future.
We will be continuing to monitor tournaments in the future.
Thanks for the post. We’ve pulled the tournament logs/information and we’re looking into the cause of this. In the mean time, we’ve had to cancel the tournament.
We actually talked about that today. I’m always hesitant to put invuln buffs in, on the off chance that people will find a glitch that lets them keep it during the match.
We’ve tried to fix this via map art changes a few times, but people seem to just find another way in. I’m just going to add kill planes to the bases on Kyhlo.
I mentioned this in the AMA, may as well repeat it here. For a multitude of reasons, balance being just one, we don’t have any plans on doing a 2v2 (or 3v3) queue.
We’ve been talking about doing special tournaments on occasion. 2v2 would be one option for a special tournament.
LMFAO! “We’ve just pushed out a gigantic patch without any warning whatsoever, right in the middle of an AT. What’s that you say? Lag? Glitches? Don’t worry boys, ’We’re looking into it. By god, we’ll get to the bottom of it.”
God kitten I love you Arenanet. 0 kittens given.
Heh, didn’t mean to sound quite THAT nonchalant about it. We have some code in place that’s supposed to handle things auto-magically when updates happen. We’ve tested it internally quite a lot and it functioned fine in our test. Obviously, something happened differently between live and internal testing though.
Cal and Ray are literally tracing through the tournament logs to find the break point now.
