I left the game for over a year. When I came back recently I spend two evenings doing all the new content, that’s just over a years worth of content lasted two evenings.
Seriously disappointed with the volume of content that has been added. The quality of the stories were good as were the maps. Just really disappointing for the amount of time that has passed that nothing substantial has really been added.
DR wasn’t in the game initially and I happened to play it for a good few weeks before DR was introduced. And honestly guys, this game was so much more fun before DR, basically punishing people for wanting to play. Absolutely abhorrent system.
We thought they were going to revert it when they got rid of the bots, but nope that never happened.
We really don’t need anymore systems that amount to choking the rewards for time invested. I’m all for improving the game so that it’s not mindless, but that won’t ever happen. This game is designed for casuals if you make the content require any degree of skill or thought they will complain – it just won’t happen and zergs will always be part of the game because of that.
Another thing it adds is another level of complication for new players and casuals to understand, will they stick around long enough for them to figure out why they stopped getting loot an hour ago, I’d say with the amount of other games on offer in today’s market they simply won’t.
No support.
Never mind, it seems some stupid marketing program had piggy backed onto something else I downloaded yesterday which prevented GW2 from contacting the server. Very odd.
The game client cannot access the log-in server at this time.
error code 42:0:9001:4375
Build 41703
I have been on everyday for the past 5 or so days, there have been no changes to my computer today so as far as I know the problem is not on my side.
I agree, they should do away with the leveling system. It is only their to give people a goal to stick around for until they get hooked into the game.
1. World bosses and champion mobs spawn in these low level areas too, the world bosses often drop their own specific loot. So it stands to sense that everyone can have a go at killing them. When the game first came out and before they events scaling and player scaling were properly worked out they world bosses died before a caster could target them – under a second. No joke, I’m sure there are still videos of it.
2. I wouldn’t call it desperate and it’s certainly not recycling since you’ll probably only have seen 30% of the map by the time your lvl 80. It’s just being efficient at game design.

“If i am going to always be just as good as my enemies, than why does this game even have levels to begin with?”
As many people will come here and tell you the original GW only had 20 levels. Just enough time for you to unlock a few things and get used to the game. You are not expected to get better by having bigger numbers, you as a person are expected to get better by being more skillful at playing the game.
This game only has lvl 80 as it’s max to appeal to wider demographic of MMO gamers. You are downscaled to match the other content so that it’s not as easy as if you were level 80, because if it was then most of the map/game would be unplayable/dead content.
As you progress you will still get strong but you’ll be contained a bit in the lower maps to keep that content relative.
That is the exact problem with the living story. In my view they either have to commit fully to it or not at all.
For almost everyone playing at the moment Zhaitan has already been killed ages ago and a new Elder dragon is just over the next horizon. The maps could be kept in an historical context through the mists for those who actually like the risen and for anyone who hasn’t defeated Zhaitan.
But I think it would reflect better on the game as a whole to new players if they saw that the living story did actually result in some tangible changes to the game.
To address your other point about new maps etc.
When this game started off with the living story I had assumed that after about 6months to a year all the player base would have been united and played through a story about cleansing Orr.
I thought we would have gone through all the zones cleaning it up and getting rid of all the risen. Then when that was done we would have introduced some new flora and fauna to the ruins there – completely changing the landscape
Of course all the new stuff would have been level 80 and basically functioned much the same. But the point is that we would actually accomplished something with lasting change – that’s what I thought they meant by the ‘living story’ but apparently I was mistaken.
Their focus is on people who buy gems.
Any content that does not directly result in people buying gems is given a back seat.
A new continent, won’t directly result in someone buying gems.
A new permanent dungeon won’t directly result in someone buying gems.
A new map for WvW won’t directly result in someone buying gems.
A new theme for LS with new items based on that current hyped theme put in the gem store will.*
*Much less work than a new continent and keeps the cash flow ticking over on a more regular bases.
I’ve been away for over a year and it is actually shocking how little content has been added to this game.
But you’d be doing the same thing at 100 as you would be doing now. It adds nothing.
They can add new maps at any time, they just haven’t bothered. All that stuff you mentioned they can add now at lvl 80.
Jeez not another gear grind game, no thanks.
There is no haling power? Unless you’re talking about the chat or emotions in game?
Also, no thanks.
Thanks guys.
Concerning the Legendary, yes it was transmuted before the stats were updated-most people playing at that time had them transmuted. What was ArenaNet’s protocol for legendaries that had been transmuted when that update took place?
Okay so I’ve read up on the living story and since we might actually get to see another dragon I’ve decided to come back, but I have some questions.
1. Firstly, from what I recall legendaries were meant to get ascended stats, which is great- except mine still has exotic stats. Is there something I’m meant to do to make it have the correct stats?
2. Gem conversion rates, geez look at those prices! I saw t6? mats are worth 5 or so times the amount they used to be – is that where the money is now or how do I go about making some cash?
3. Account bound dyes, that was awesome of them.
4. Is diminishing returns still a thing?
5. I didn’t really notice any new armours/weapons or dungeons what new content has actually been introduced and has remained permanent?
Edit:
6. Also my current world’s wvw fell apart due to infighting from what I recall, how easy is it to switch worlds now, I heard something about a mega server?
(edited by Big Boss.7902)
I see vayne is calling out anyone who doesn’t agree with him to be the minority to strengthen his view. Funny, when you consider the amount of times he’s consistently shouted down other people for doing the same.
Vayne also makes it sound like they should not add to the base of the game; that the root of the game should never grow. We can’t have new zones, or dungeons or even mini games that stay in the game according to vayne.
If the content is fun and the rewards are balanced people will continue to use the new content even if it’s months or years old.
Just posting to thank Ins for doing a good job commanding on EB today. Looking forward to see what the rest of the week brings.
Basically, you will be banned if they catch you BUT there is no way for them to know, so carry on.
But the point I want to make is that they do not design content with people sharing accounts in mind, since that is agaisnt the rules.
There should be no reason not to have Wxp account wide.
@subcrazy.1098
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Is-account-sharing-bannable
“The account is bound by a User Agreement that each of us accepts before playing. Saying you can do anything you desire with you account is far, far from true. You cannot bot. You cannot sell gold. You cannot harass other players. You cannot resell the account. And, yes, you cannot share accounts (except in extremely limited circumstances outlined in the UA.)
I know what you’re saying, Michael, but really, all accounts are bound by the User Agreement, not to mention the Rules of Conduct, the Content Terms of Use, the Naming Policy… "
@elkirin, I bet they have already accounted for this and only award chests to people above a certian level.
I would love it if they were account bound, after all it’s the same person controlling the characters.
I’ve always liked how the necro starter skull mask looks on a charr.
7 months and still not fixed and Anet have been looking into it for 5 months? I don’t know what to say about that.
Lots of good points, but please if you’re looking to change things in wvw please make charater rankings account bound, just merge what we have already accumulated. Thats why you give 5 char slots, that’s why it’s easy to get exotics that’s why it’s easy to level up so we can swap and change it up a bit.
It would help remove some of the stagnation for people if they knew they could use what ever character they felt like at that moment to play wvw and still work on their rank. It’s the same person behind the computer screen; they know how to scout, how to direct people how to defend etc.
WvW needs a lot of updates in the next few months to keep people interested.
Are sentinel insignias craftable and if not, why not?
Doesn’t this mean that after 2 weeks (when the dungeon is gone) the only way to get these items is to use the tp?
I just came across this aswell. I hope it’s an oversite.
Thanks for the reply Mark, hope you get it sorted out.
Why can no one enter the new dungeon?
Is there an event that has to spawn or what’s the deal?
Make its looks depend on which Element you are attuned to. It would have completely different look for other classes using staff, but since this is purely about Elementalist, I’ll only describe that.
While attuned to Fire it spouts fire from the tip of the staff, and gives the player a fiery aura.
While attuned to Water it gives the staff an icy / crystal look with streams of water flowing around it (kinda similar to Bifrost’s rainbow effect, but with water instead).
While attuned to Air it turns the staff in a style similar to that used for the Lightning Hammer, it gives the player an electric aura (similar to Bolt).
While attuned to Earth the staff turns bigger, with some rocks floating around it. It turns the player’s hands and some of their skin to earth.I don’t care about footsteps, it can be without those.xP
Totally agree.
That’s what I thought as well. But lots of classes use the staff, so how do people feel about:
Class specific legendaries and maybe
Cultural legendaries
Elementals are pretty hard going at low levels, mesmers too don’t level up so fast until they unlock a few skills. Both however become very good if you stick with them. Necro is pretty easy and fast enough to level, so you could start with him then come back to the other classes with a bit more experience.
Most people tend to level up in the human and norn areas, so either pick one of those races or pick whichever race you like and travel to those zones.
It’s all up to you though!
Edit: for leveling up, most everything gives exp. It’s best to run around zones completing hearts (should have a heart icon on the map). These are kind of side quests but you don’t need to talk to npcs, just enter a place that has one to do. They are one time only, once you do one that’s it done.
Dynamic events are the other great way to lvl up. Look for orange circles or icons on your map. Any interesting information about the place you are in should be on the top right hand side of your screen.

In Guild Wars, you can buy mercenary slots, which were like heroes, but you got to take your alts with you instead of the heroes.
We’d need to have heroes/henchmen before all of that though.
Take your alts with you? That sounds like a really neat idea. Maybe after a few years something like this could be added.
I was thinking about this topic the other day, but not in the way you have posted it. From my experience a 30 man zerg has every chance of beating a 40 man zerg – there are lots of tactics for zerg vs zerg atm.
I was thinking more along the lines that wvw needs more tactics for taking keeps etc.
At the moment there are only really 3 ways to get into a keep:
a lucky mesmer inside;
ram on door; or
trebe/cat from a distance.
It just makes it very easy to guess what people will do. I’d love there to be another few ways to get into a keep and also new ways to defend a keep (secret tunnels that lead to the outer wall etc.)
You know, just add a few more layers to the overall tactics for depth, as long as they are balanced).
Hey guys I really want a Greataxe too, I have good and bad news though:
Good; in an interview maybe 2 months ago colin was asked about adding new weapons to the game and he say the greataxe was one that was suggested a lot.
So I’d say when they do make new weapons it’ll be near the top of the list.
Bad; he also went on to say they wouldn’t add anymore weapons until they are happy with the way players obtain precursors.
So, it’ll be long after the scavanger hunt is introduced and that’s also a long way off.
So in short, we should get greataxes, but maybe not for a year or two.
The last thing I read about this from a dev (think it was in an interview on another site a month or two back) was that they will release more legendaries but not until they improve the way precursors are obtained.
By the time they sort precursors out then design and make new legendaries you could be looking at mid to end 2014 in my opinion.
I posted in the suggestion thread but will post here as well so it gets seen:
Can we have one to track pve things such as:
slayer achievments (who’s killed the most of what race)
weapon master achievments (who’s used a greatsword the most)
skillfull (who’s collected the most skill points)
hero (who’s completed the most DEs)
Those types of things, thanks.

What they’ve done now.. is an ok base, but looks like they didn’t even try to do anything ‘flash’.
Which one.. isn’t the one on the left the exotic karma helm in orr and the one on the right is a high lvl rare drop (not sure of the pve name)?
Edit: had another look at the helm, it’s not the karma one it’s slightly different. The coat and leggings (of the same set as the helm) are obtained in the personal story about lvl70ish. The helm and the rest were not included which I assume is an oversight. It’s not been fixed yet and isn’t likely to be.
(edited by Big Boss.7902)
Oh boy, I think I have about 2.1mil karma in drops/jugs in my bank.
50mins of clicking? And yours was mostly jugs while I have about 1,500 drops. So not looking forward to that.
Out of interest, what was the breakdown on the lodestones you got?
I’m on Deso, it’s my first full week doing wvw. Normally playing on deso BL on low lvl alts (can’t wait to get them to 80). It’s been really fun, I always said to myself when i did wvw for map completion it’d be fun if I could actually see anyone, and well it is!
I’ve noticed that during the week after I worked out wvw a bit more I started to give orders a lot. So sorry to any commanders if I stood on your toes!
Glad to see we got 2nd place this week! Good stuff!
Was also great seeing Offski land in BL to save Garri a few times, big thanks to you sir!
I have most of the things I need to make a legendary weapon, just need to save up the 600-700gold to buy the precursor. But I have 10 characters that I play on, say I switch between 3 weapons on each of them (I use more on most of them actually). Thats 30 weapons, basically I wouldn’t see that legendary very often.
Just doesn’t seem worth it, at least if it was account bound I could pass it around a few characters.
I also don’t see why anyone would not want this change, since in my opinion it actually adds value to a legendary.
I’ve yet to hear about someone getting a precursor from a guild mission (propbably a few will have it by now, but it hasn’t been a large supplier to the market).
I’ve done over 500 boss events last month, not one out of the 100’s of people around me at every boss fight, linked a precursor in that time.
The supply hasn’t gone up in any meaningful way.
There is a name change contract listed in the TP, but it’s not actually ingame yet.
A few weeks ago someone was asking about it, and a dev replied. They didn’t say when it would be out but they hinted strongly that it would be in the next update (the one today).
So yea, hopefully it’ll be in this update, it was only a hint after all though so it may not be.
I’m actually in the same boat as you. I really really like that weapon, but it’s a lot of mats and I won’t see it very often. However I did buy venom for it a month ago. None of the other legendaries really take my fancy apart from twilight – which i have most of the mats for.
So my current thinking is I’ll hold on to the precurser and build it once I get a legendary for use on land, because that won’t seem like such a waste to me for some reason.
Just go to the profession sub forum here? Lots of good builds are posted there.
A lot of people will get downed or die during a newbie run at lupi. One thing that can make all the difference is managing downed players until you get more experience at the content.
Always res cautiously, don’t res near lupi, If lupi is clearly targeting one player they should keep their distance from any downed players. It’s generally not a good idea to have more than one person try to res another player unless lupi is really far away.
What path were you doing?
Experience makes a big difference, the first couple of times in Arah will always seem very hard. But it gets very easy after the initial couple of runs.
Start with path 3, it’s the easiest. Starting out that could maybe take just over an hour but with a bit of experience you’ll be able to do it in 20mins.
If you tried to do path 1 first I can understand why you’re angry enough to make this post. It’s not newbie friendly. The first few skips are very hard and the res wp for lupi is back near the start.
^ The vast majority of this games population just isn’t any good at this game to be honest. Not everyone spends 10/12 hours learning how to solo
The problem is that this game simply doesn’t encourage anyone to be good or get better. That is until they hit lupi. Open world pve – there is no challenge there, if you go down in a large event 5-10 players will pick you up and pretty much every other dungeon boss is just a meat bag. Hopefully all the dungeon improvements coming will add a bit more flair to boss encounters.
I’ve taken a lot of new people to arah/lupi and all of them have done really well. So there are good players out there but I think the game needs to softly test people more and encourage them to get better.
Yeah, just noticed/read it.
Thanks for the reply Colin.
It sounds good, but we will have to wait and see the results when it’s live.
I was in the same boat as you a week a go. I asked on the forum and Wethospu helped me. He ran paths 1,3 and 4 with me (got a pug for path 2).
Since then I’ve run arah about 10-15 times and helped a good dozen newbies
I’m currently running arah for tokens and wouldn’t mind showing you the ropes. Paths 1,2 and 3 are the easy ones, you may need to set a lot of time aside for path 4 though(it’s long). I’m also not interested in being paid. Those guys selling/buying … I duno why would they bother.
whisper me ingame
I don’t know, but the last patch we got was over 1Gb, and to me ingame it doesn’t seem like a Gb was added. So I’m really sure.
Maybe the guild missions will make up a big part of the content – but they don’t seem to be very hyped up?
From November 15th patch:
The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.

Latest thread by Anet concerning this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Share-your-data-about-perceived-strange-drop-behavior-here/page/27#post1397411
So far there have been about 50 pages of comments (a lot on deleted threads) about this and the general level of open world loot. Most people feel that since the November 15th patch open world loot was nerfed or DR got bugged for a lot of people.
It’s been 3 months and Anet haven’t fixed anything yet, champions are still not guaranteed to drop loot.
Can someone make edz’s post a new thread or better yet put it on a blog somewhere so Anet can’t delete it – because it is oh so true.
Edit: I saved a copy of it just incase something were to happen to his post, corrected the english a bit too!

In about October, I was in Queensdale on a lvl 7 alt, traveling about to and fro looking for events to level up with. I stopped to harvest some onions and got an unidentified dye. Which I hastily opened to receive an Abyss dye, I passed it over to my lvl 80 warrior and used it on him.
I think they were worth somewhere between 5-7gold back then. I had no plans to sell it as it was my reasoning that at some point I’d be buying it anyway.
