The problem is, GW2 was originally aimed at the core/casual market and since really the start of the major events, they have started down a different path – utilizing smoke and mirror tactics in order to keep people playing. With today’s patch, it is clearly intended that this game is going down a much more hardcore path and isn’t good for any casual player at all.
What is “core about this patch” 1 new pvp mode, casual matchmaking for PvP, and some minor useless fluff for PvE.
There is nothing core about this game currently.
Its just bad grinds with no design.
Core market = Dungeons and Horizontal progression was the original focus. With todays patch, literally the game has changed, for the worst. The patch is even bad for hardcore players, they just don’t see it yet.
Elaborate.

So as a “casual” what did you expect? a never ending single player story =/ … everything else is solo.
You have to group for ONE mission… ONE. Why is that too much to ask of you?
Maybe its because the only way you can make a final fight epic is by having more people instead of a bunch of NPC’s doing it for you.
I find people complaining about the most minor things.
As a solo player what on earth was you expecting?
The solo player is important to an MMO, but you seem to think you need to be the focus.
Oh and this game, has no “good features” for any fixed audiance, PvE’s are screwed because the dungeons are awful and there is barely any worthwhile progression.
PvPers have a stripped down version of guild wars 1.
Overall, A-nets endgame has been pretty bad.
and this second patch proves to be yet another fluff patch.
One of the heaviest grinds in any modern mmo for aesthetics, and almost no social… yup sums this game up.
I feel your pain, our guild leader had a refund on release and now none of us have leadership over our guild (though officers)… we can’t change the emblem or anything.
Leader decided to ticket arena net asking if they could transfer leader to me, and they just replied with “this is not possible as we have no system in place to manage guilds”
What company cannot do that?
Its incompetence at its best.
I gotta agree, not only Arah, but most of the dungeon has long and very long ‘filler’ zones, meaning paths full of useless and boring mobs, which comes in waves and waves of endless zergs of mobs you have to kill in order to reach a not even challenging boss.
Now fractals, have some interesting dungeons where you can clearly see someone else designed them cause they are actually entertaing, for a few exceptions obviously (harpy map, really? were they drunk when they made it? or underwater boss, long and boring)
I agree, alot of the fractals is well designed, bosses like the jellyfish are stupid though.
But it feels like all the content is just filler…. no thought put into it whatseover.
Most anti-climactic final boss in the HISTORY of gaming?
Exaggerate much?
I thought it was fine, not sure whats up with all the QQ on this. But yeah, since we hate our customers so much, let’s make the end of the campaign the worst we can, and then make the end boss the worst in all of gaming history!
It was fine graphical, which you in your finite wisdom is referring to, either that or your standards for a final boss battle are incredible low. given Zaitan barely did anything.
You keep using plural words which would indicate you’re speaking for you and several other people. Who’s this “us”? You’re speaking for yourself, yooooo
Do you have any actual input? as in, do you disagree with my analasis. my entire party just now through part 2 were like “…. well never again” they are just awful grindy and long paths.
Meanwhile you have all the easy mode people farming CoF for “dat epic fire armour” and getting it so easily in 1/10th of the time.
there should be some consistency.
Its quite amusing, fanboys will say “Oh look, there is a patch every month, A-net are awesome” but these patches barely ever adress anything or nowhere near enough.
Apart from the very broken story mode with the most ant-climactic final boss in the history of gaming. (even though he was set up epic).
When you designed the explorable mode did you just assume that challenge meant an uninspired 4 paths of epic blandness and self-harming levels of elite zombies then chuck us 1 or 2 decent fights, and hope we would love to run this over and over for our shards?
Paths 2 and 4 are just ridiculous, no not difficulty wise, just time and filler….
Oh and, before the people who claim “its because your bad” … really not, and funnily enough I quite like Giganticus… infact he is one of the only bosses in this game I consider anywhere close to being “Explorable worthy”.
But seriously, any designers input on this torturous dungeon and what on kittens earth was you thinking?
I love the arah set for my guardian, but P 2 and 4 … and even 1 ….. are so torturous to run more than once, P3 is a decent pace but incredible unchallenging. (due to boss encounters being stupidly easy)
Tone down the ammount of filler crap, it simply isn’t fun or challenging for any demographic.
Ignoring the sarcasm in Fiennes’ post above me…
Reality is that this is a B2P game, not a subscription-based business model, and ANet accordingly isn’t staffed with a huge marching army of developers and programmers… and probably has a lot of junior (read “cheap”) staffers handling QA. It’s fairly probable that ANet wants to be profitable, so they’re not going to staff up beyond what’s sustainable for their cash-shop revenue stream.
If you noticed (and how could you not notice), the game was released with a lot of bugs, a lot of balancing issues, a lot of load issues (see “culling”), and a lot of missing features that are in most MMORPGs… even though it went through the usual Beta testing cycles. It’s very apparent that the “Beta testing” was really just the typical marketing done by most of these development companies.
If you look at the various buglists out thee, you’ll see almost every issue you’ve ever run into, so they’re aware of them. When will they fix them? Probably not until I’ve moved on to another game… so, I’m not going to worry about them.
It’s just a game, not the end of the world.
Dota 2, league of legends and a slew of other mmos don’t even generate revanue from a box sale so this point is absolutely moot. they have not capitilized on the gem stores potential even because they seem to be added 1 item a month instead of 10-50.
Its just like “whats going on here” this is an MMO and marketed as such, not a one time buy co-op rpg to put down after a week.
Dear valued customer,
We, at ArenaNet, apologise for not specifically fixing your issues in priority to all the other things we have to do. We understand your concerns and that your gameplay is utterly ruined because of it. We will endeavour in the future to address your concerns before anything else. Besides, all we do here is play golf, right?
Kind regards,
Birdy’s Personal Customer Support Team (Now Hiring)
Right because ongoing lack of control over Guilds has been here since the beggining its really really bad that they can’t do anything about it.
what am i suppose to do with a bugged main cahracter that has to now manually manage 100+ items each time it fills?
and general lack of meaty content.
It is only a grind or a gear treadmill if you want it to be and treat it as such. So many of you have the completely wrong outlook, enjoy the game and have fun.
Erm, the mmo genre was built on grinding. doing challenging grinds IS fun.
thing is you have this new breed of casual kids/adults on this game that whine if there is something that takes “a while” to get and to me THATS entitlement.
“we pay the same price so we should get the same” IS ENTITLEMENT AND IS NOT REALISTIC OF ANY PAYED ACTIVITY.
No back appearance or cloaks still.
World Events still bugging.
No way to take ownership of my guild because you have no system in place to edit guild rosters (sounds incredible amateurish tbh.)
No big balancing patches.
I cant even compact/move to collectible on the items in my backpack since I upgraded to 110 slots … I have to do it all manually for whatever reason.
But seriously, you patch so slowly… and when you do its mediocre at best.
Whats up with that?
Oh please, this is just winging for the sake of winging, people like you ruin these games.
How have they dropped the ball? by providing a grind for those that like difficult dungeons? GOD FORBID. and NO this does not go against their policy at all, you do not NEED ascension gear to see ANY of the current ingame content. a higher difficulty FOTM is nothing of the sort either.
Therefore you don’t NEED to do it to see content, unlike WoW for example where to do the next big dungeon you would need the previous dungeons gear level maxxed or close.
you KNOW they are adding more methods of ascension hear, why bloody complain about something so trivial.
purpose of thread?
He is saying the stat layouts are worse so its not an upgrade, so its not an incentive for guardians for example.
Pretty simple really.
Dumbest thread of the year.
Tell me revolution, what do you do on the game? why shouldn’t people have something to work for, it barely adds any power to that character anyway.
There is no logical sense in complaining about these things, infact its selfish. its so easy to hit 80 and get exotics, there needs to be something more to keep people playing, even someone like me who does full time study and part time work.
what the hell is wrong with you. why does it matter?
Hey all,
Desolation’s Lion arch chat seems dead and its hard to find groups to do well, anything. If there is any decent active casual freindly guilds out there (Casual, due to doing a full time Masters & part-time work).
Just looking for a guild to do stuff randomly with when I have time to play.
Let me know if you are recruiting.
Guardian – Full Exotic.
I don’t know when. But you keep making posts ragging on the game when you clearly aren’t finding out facts. If you’re not trolling, then you’re just a moron.
1) I knew they were changing the tokens.
2) What am I wrong about?
3) I am making a point about fanboys and irrational complaint stomping.
Quite clearly, it is correct.
They said they’re adding tokens to the dungeon runs, Birdy, please stop trolling.
When, how much? How is it trolling? only 3 of the instances give you level 80 exotics anyway. its still a very limited PvE end-game.
I am not trolling, apologist.
Where the kitten does anet states there’s going to be a big patch tomorrow? Ppl keep repeating this ad nauseam.
Its the typical “The miracle patch is coming and will fix all whiners problems and this game will prosper” nonsense that fanboys love to spout.
I have one skill point that’s preventing map completion for me. While frustrating, as someone said earlier, it doesn’t bother me that much. I’m not paying per month, I’ll get it done when it comes available. My bigger worry for world completion is WvWvW – that’s going to take forever!
I’m interested in the game now, not later, this wait mentallity due to bugs is not an acceptable response in reality is it? you would not accept this in any other customer service industry or product. the defence of fanboys annoys the hell out of me.
Yea, whoever decided WvWvW should have PvE explorable points was just….
Forcing us to do something we don’t want to where the rest of that is done (99%) in a mode we want to do.
And expect us to wait 1-2 weeks just to cap things like that because nobody will take enemy main keeps.
Some design decisions blow my mind, padding the game out for no reason (LOL DUNGEON TOKENS)
TLDR
Most games offer good rewards because they are a good part of FUN.
If you find repeating mindless dungeons, or having nothing to do fun then more power to you.
“if your not having fun, stop playing” WHOA such amazing advice from apologists. This is a persistant MMO. I’m glad you people don’t run companies, businesses or anything.
Really really bad.
IF people want to complain on the forusm let them, if your having fun why are you even here getting butthurt about people complaining and wasting your time coming up with terrible advice like this.
I explained my playtime in my post – I still play, but less, because I am done with my main. This is what I expected from the game, so I am satisfied with it. If I were interested in the dungeon gear look, I would run dungeons, but that isn’t what I find fun, so I don’t do it. I’d advise others to do the same, rather than getting bent into a virtual pretzel because they are not enjoying a video game.
Or they could make it fun for both kinds of players and your silly defence logic can be left out of it, as it benefits nobody.
I think that has more logic to it somehow.
But are you having fun?
Who cares about getting 100% so early in the game, just sit back and watch the surroundings. Don’t rush everything.….
What is this…. I don’t even.
Why so many friggin apologists on this forum?
Why are there so many hipster, 4chan meme kids that can’t seem to increase their vocabulary on this forum?
I guess apologist and fanboy are the new cool words to use.
Another one. how are we the hipsters? No, just a person that wan’t to be able to complete the game he bought without a bug that has been spam reported for over 3 weeks preventing him from doing so. (and a minor bug at that.)
Fanboys are the worst. this is a problem, I shouldn’t be told to “take my time” when its a friggin bug stopping me from doing something I want to do.
I see many people every day going to this same skill point waiting.
TLDR
Most games offer good rewards because they are a good part of FUN.

….
What is this…. I don’t even.
Why so many friggin apologists on this forum?
This is just ridiculous now. Its been reported god knows how many times now aswell, and yet it has been 3 weeks, how many 100%s has this claimed?
Bayt Fahallin Skill point as some here may already know, someone has even posted a video of this 3 week long failure.
What does it take to fix this?
Problems like this, this far in now is just bad.
And the whole stupid “Discovery in Realm v Realm” … why even bother? I have to wait another week until I rotate to the bottom right keep to complete it. I really really poor idea.
Birdy is in every thread guys. This is his thing to do. He’s lookin’ to rustle some jimmies. Just say “Oh it’s Birdy! I’m sorry about the herpes you claim you got from GW2, Birdy!” and carry on.
You are in every thread too, whats your point?
What does it offer at endgame that isn’t a total grind fest exactly?
I will get it straight for you.
You clearly take it as a total grind fest because mainly you are grinding for something. You are never obligated to do so but you still keep doing it. I don’t feel like writing an essay to explain what the endgame offers. So, good luck.
No, I played like the rest of you, enjoyed 1-80. it came around all too fast being an easy and pretty void of challenge to that point. like any other mmo levelling, although it was flashier and more immersive, I guess that’s what the kids like these days.
This may have a different approach to MMOs, but it is still marketed as an “MMO PERSISTANT WORLD EVERY CHANGING, CONSTANT THINGS TO DO” …. but those things to do are so minor compared to pretty much all the competition (in PvE at least).
All of you say you could write a really long list, all of you talking nonsense when simple bullet point format would do.
Prooblem is all you can do is make a small list look big like the stupid PR garbage they blurted out the other day “things to do at 80 – things you have already done now go through them with a fine tooth comb because there is literally nothing else other than token and materials.”
And you know full well that is the reality for PvE’rs.
You definitely sound burnt out, maybe you should give gw 2 a break for a bit?
I had a friend that played non stop and got extremely bored and burnt out within 3 days.. You really gotta just not play that much and you’ll feel like it again!
Its not burnt out, its after that 2-3 days there is literraly next to nothing interesting left at the end of thisgame.
Silly, dungeons are not suppose to be rewarding, they are suppose to be about the fun of mindlessly bashing near tacticless boss encounters offering nothing.
Guild Wars fans love the concept. didnt you know?
Indeed we do! There’s more to be said for explore and adventure than sitting in a queue with you waiting for easy shinnies a’la cartoon flavor.
Explorables are not even harder than heroics on WoW. they just have cheap Diablo III like design built in to make a boring dungeon tedious.
In addition to that, you need to kill 100s of bosses to get “shinies”
So yes, if you think I like “easy shinies” then if its more fun yes. I win either way because the content is actual well designed and fun.
But if machosists guild wars fans like lame Diablo III style encounter grinding to brag about then more power to you…
I’m NOT one of those people on the raid wagon because i don’t necessarily have the time for it anymore, but this thought came to me when I was looking at all my old EQ screenshots. See TLDR; at end if you have a severe case of ADHD…
Inspiration: EQ-> Plane of Hate, Plane of Fear, Plane of Sky, Sebelis, Kael Drakkel FFXI-> Dynamis
The groundwork to do this is already in place so implementing this system wouldn’t be all that difficult.
I propose Specific Zones or Dungeons set aside exclusively for groups of 10 players or more. They can be either Open World like EQ, or instanced off like a dungeon.
The encounters would scale based on the number of people, just like meta events and dynamic events, and the fight mechanics would be similar to the Jormag fight, with phases and all.
Rewards would NOT be better gear, but more vanity sets, this preserves Anet’s mission and makes it so that doing these “raids” are not for gear progression, just for guild activities and fun.
TLDR: Open World or instanced Dungeons/Zones meant for 10 players+ with a bunch of Dynamic Events/Meta events similar in mechanics to Jormag, and only vanity gear for loot.
Sounds much better than the current mess. which is exactly what I am suggesting, you can do raids and good mechanic PvE end-games without raising the item-level unlike what these fanboy defenders suggest.
No, its not 100+ and I don’t have the exact number but I know it’s freaking ludicrous. Around 60 if memory serves. Couple that with the fact that explorable modes are just way too tedious and there is simply no motivation.
Key word is tedious by the way. They’re not difficult, they’re just boring as heck.
Yup, the bottom line is, there is alot of content HOWEVER:
1) The majority of dungeon content is primitive, un-inspired compared to the competition.
2) Loot tables and token farm is obsurd.
3) Too chaotic, its not fun or good reflexes, its pretty much Diablo III’s ridiculousness in MMORPG format. Its not hard, its just cheap, tedious and outdated.
The majority of the game is great, but the long term PvE goals are rubbish.
If only DUSK would stop linking the same old crap. point is most people are bored of the 1-80 “structred dungeon content” and reality is most PvErs like said content.
Is it your problem? no? is A-Net going to lose alot of people over it? yes.
“Buh buh no monthly sub” – So friggin what? they have a gem store that preys on the hardcore. and most MMOs are free2play with cashshop like this now and still manage to cater to everyone.
Oh whats this, a guild wars fan blog stating the obvious?
Everybody knows its designed to bring you back. but his opinion on it not being fun is HIS ALONE. the Millions that do clearly do enjoy it.
And it IS the height of PvE content for social, challenge and reward. it always has been. just some burnt out guy who will play guild wars to 80 then quit.
So why have levels at all?
Because having an RPG that rested solely on its gameplay would be too much of a shock for you kitten graspers.
Leveling in the game was a side-effect of playing. That’s the way they intended it, and (I can’t believe I’m saying this again) you’d know this if you had read anything ANet has been saying about the game for the past three years. It’s cool and all, but power plateau means power plateau, and that’s something we knew would be in the game around the time they gave us the elementalist reveal.
Deal with it, or go back to your gear treadmill. I honestly don’t care which, because they’re not going to turn a 180 on their entire philosophy on this game just to please a few whiners.
You know Dusk, as much as I’ve been enjoying myself in GW2 it’s people like you that make me want to quit. Seriously, demeaning over a video game? You’d fit right in with the current WoW community.
Not only that, why doesn’t he go tell EVERY major RPG developer out there big and small that leveling/grinding and progression is bad. and watch him and the entire communities laugh in his face.
Hes the most obsurd person I have every seen.
People love RPGs for progression, custimization and the more enthusiasts love the number crunching and tactics.
All which are very absent from this and the result is a mindless zerg fest for the lowest common denominator.
So why have levels at all?
Because having an RPG that rested solely on its gameplay would be too much of a shock for you kitten graspers.

Leveling is a side effect…. Ive read everything you have and seen the ridiculous apple-like marketing… and as you can see with other posts cropping up showing the flaws in their advertising.
All this gear-treadmill crap as if it is an insult. It takes less grind to gear up in 5 mans on wow (because they are actually well designed) than it does to do a few explorables on this.
You won’t realize that ofcourse because your a fanboy.
Silly, dungeons are not suppose to be rewarding, they are suppose to be about the fun of mindlessly bashing near tacticless boss encounters offering nothing.
Guild Wars fans love the concept. didnt you know?
So desperate to make out this game has heavy PvE content
I’m not desperate for anything; I can prove that it has heavy PvE content. All you’d have to do is post your /age.
was 80 with most of my above stats at 86 hours. now 140 because of token grind that. amazing truly.
The dungeons promote gear progression
No they don’t. If you’re of the level required for the dungeons and have gear at least 5 levels below your character level, you can finish the dungeon. If you’re 80, and are decked out in level-80 whites, you can definitely finish a dungeon. You don’t need to do some dungeon solely to get gear so you can do some other dungeon; once you’re at the level cap, everything’s open to you, and everything possible to complete with a skilled group.
And that’s how it should be.
So why have levels at all? why can’t I just go straight to orr and do what I like? oh whats that? Levels give stat and progression? oh whats this? its one of the fun things found in pretty much every RPG on the planet?
I do all the content you skipped racing to 80 to get to the “endgame”. I’d list it, but it’d be a very long, boring, repetitive trip along a keyboard.
Kinda like a typical WoW raid!
99% map rank 14 PvP, Done quite abit of Realm v Realm, all dungeon story modes done and a good ammount of explorables.
about 60% of jump puzzles, 400jewel 400 chef.
All standard things I can do in any mmo (besides jump puzzles… I guess.)
So please, stop lying through your teeth to try and make a point, I havn’t skipped anything.
But if you deep down really mean:
“So desperate to make out this game has heavy PvE content because of common things all mmos share and fine-tooth-combing boring zone content” then so be it. denial must be a wonderful thing.
You couldnt even answer my question.
We get it, you don’t like PvE, instead of progressional content you just like doing a dungeon once.
Whats stopping you just not taking part in raiding? I thought it was for the fun, not competition, challenge and reward?
If you don’t like it, why do you want to deny it to such a large audiance?
You are a hypocrit to the core.
Uh, PvE is practically all I do in this game. So you’re wrong there. What’s to stop me taking part in progression raiding? The unnecessary grind it would require to access otherwise inaccessible content. Ya know, that thing ANet changed when they released this game because a lot of people don’t like that crap in MMO’s? That crap.
Also, no, you’re not a large audience. A “large audience” didn’t buy this game thinking it was going to be WoW 2 like you did. A lot of them saw that GW2 wasn’t going to have an end-game gear-locked content months ago, decided it was not for them, and stuck with WoW. That’s where that “large audience” is; playing WoW.
Like you should be, instead of whining on these forums trying to turn our game into that.
So what do you do PvE wise? do tell, im sure its a fascinating read.
AzzrasBetter doesn’t have to mean a stat increase. It could still be aesthetics.
And that I see no problem with; hell, that’s already in the game.
It’s these people coming into this forum saying that the game should have “progression gearing” post-80 to get to certain content so you can do even more “progression gearing” to access certain content that just aren’t getting it. ANet said it wouldn’t be in the game. Those of us who were following what ANet was saying and looking forward to this game for the many reasons, one of which being that there’s no pointless carrot-chasing to get to otherwise accessible content after max level, would rather see than unchanged simply because a bunch of people decided not to read anything about this game and then bought it thinking that certain stuff would be in it.
If they want that, they can go get that somewhere else; we bought the game because we think that progression raiding crap is hardcore boring.
Because a raiding system requires you to have certain gear progression before even seeing the content. The gear progression grind is required in order to see content — the content is locked behind that grinding gate. That’s a totally different story from optional grinding for item skins.
IT can be modified. that is only WoW’s model.
All we ask is for alot more variety and challenge and reward in this game’s PvE endgame.
Guild Wars 1 allowed 8 players and this only allows 5 in all its content. we experiance large raids in the world, why not some inside aswell? they can offer more structured and interesting mechanics.
At the moment ther eis barely anything for gods sake the bosses don’t even have move variety or phases.
Its a clear sign that they had no PvE end-game ready for release, buit it IS intended.
Here’s a good sum up of all the complaints currently, Reinth. <whine whine whine whine whine whine I WANT EVERYTHING IN A DAY whine whine whine whine whine>
What does it offer at endgame that isn’t a total grind fest exactly?
AzzrasBetter doesn’t have to mean a stat increase. It could still be aesthetics.

Thats not what i asked. since you know there is ALOT of 5 man progression in Wow prior to that point.
What part of “it locks players out of content” do you not understand?
So what if it does? Guild Wars doesn’t have to follow the “timer” part of raiding, nobody every said it did, why are you even brining it up?
Oh right, its the only thing you can legit complain about on WoW. everything else is farmable.
Or Sam, why can’t we have both and appeal to both types of gamers? what on earth is wrong with that?
Infact its the only smart thing to do.
Oh yay, another person that thinks because he is leveling slowly hes right and we are wrong.
Just because we are effecient and you are not doesnt mean we are addicted.
Thats not what i asked. since you know there is ALOT of 5 man progression in Wow prior to that point.
BirdyAnd yet that is exactly what it is, only in the least fun form possible.
Please give me one example of max-level content that you’re unable to do unless you run other max-level content to gear for it.
And if this game is so awful at its core, why are you still here? ArenaNet isn’t going to change ideas this game was founded on three years ago just to appease the people who are addicted to the crap this game was meant to break away from.
Why is gearing for further content bad?
I waste 100s hours on this grinding exotic gear for hard dungeons. then if i want to switch roll I do it all again, only in a boring form.
