1. It will give people a reason to enter their personal home instances.
2. It doesn’t split the community between Rata Sum and Lion’s Arch.
3. It keeps the old school gaming feel. Pretty much anyone who owned a pre-internet gaming system knows that you had to invite friends over to your place if you want to get any co-op done.
It makes perfect sense. It’s called game progression. You are not at that level therefore you don’t get the loot from that level.
But you are actually doing that level…..
OP its to make it so you keep running the content longer. I detest blocked game progression. If im skillful enough to do it then i should get the reward.
Yeah but your personal level isn’t progressed to that point. Game progression in this case is your personal level.
Being able to do that level even if it’s higher just means you get an additional opportunity to level up your progression. It’s a change ANET made in order to encourage more teams doing fractals because previously everyone had to be the same fractal level or higher to do a fractal.
No one is blocking your game progression. Your statement is inaccurate.
Blocking means you are stopped. You are not stopped from progressing through the fractals levels in this case and attaining loot at the appropriate time.
The problem I have with this argument is that you become a burden to other people in your guild if you aren’t already at the right level and it’s a pretty unreasonable grind to have to gain the levels NECESSARY TO GRIND. I can’t be alone in thinking that’s totally insane, right? Heck, and for all I know that STILL won’t solve the problem. If you’re level 12 and you join a level 20 game will you gain pristine fractal relics?
Wrong. The only thing unreasonable is your expectation that you should be allowed to skip progression because you feel like it while others including those in your guild have had to spend time to go through it the normal way.
What progression would I be skipping? Is someone skipping progression by being invited by a guild mate to a dungeon they haven’t unlocked yet?

So I finally decided to get around to writing this. Last week I tried running a high-level fractal run and at the end of the run it turns out that I didn’t earn a single pristine fractal relic despite the run being level 20. When I inquired as to why this was I was told that my personal level wasn’t high enough. What’s the point in limiting the ability to obtain fractal relics? It doesn’t make sense to me.
I think guild commendations were a step in the right direction. The problem is that you can only get them through guild missions. What I’d like to see are additional ways to earn commendations to speed up the process of acquiring Ascended gear. Something like a “guild daily” that involves doing a normal activity but with guildmates.
The solution is for the puzzle not to be timed. Please, Anet. I want a challenging puzzle that isn’t timed.
So, have you completed every other jumping puzzle in the game? You didn’t find Dark Reverie (for example) to be “challenging” ?
I’m not saying that there aren’t challenging jumping puzzles. I’m saying “Why not make a more difficult jumping puzzle WITHOUT a timer?”
Surely the harder version is a greater achievement, no? If ever there was a definition of “achievement”, that would be it – being able to do the hardest version.
Right, and you achieved it by beating the highest level. That is the achievement, not the 5 or so achievement points you got from it.[/quote]
Does this give any rewards? I wont’ be doing the jumping puzzle until they patch it into a non-timed puzzle, so I ‘m curious how I’m supposed to get enchanted stuffing and other holiday items.
Seriously. I cannot figure out why they keep doing this. Jumping puzzles don’t need to be timed to be challenging.
The solution is for the puzzle not to be timed. Please, Anet. I want a challenging puzzle that isn’t timed.
It’s still a timed puzzle. Way too difficult.
1. Takes too long to start.
2. Timed puzzles aren’t fun. (But puzzles with timing ARE fun.)
3. We need difficulty levels for these jumping puzzles.
I don’t mind it being difficult. I mind that it has an incredibly punishing timed nature to it.
“it’s really easy.”
Possibly for the select few who are really good at jumping puzzles. But my issue is that this is content that most people won’t be able to complete or participate in.
Items that seem to go towards some exclusive Wintersday content. No clue if you’ll be able to get that stuff any other way. But I imagine you will (hopefully.)
Yeah, and that wait is really annoying. All in all I’d say this is worse than the clock tower.
Yeah, they melt really quickly.
+1 on this. I’ve also noticed that the AOEs would be incredibly hard to spot for those that are colorblind. This game is not very friendly towards the colorblind.
Am I the only one having a huge issue with this puzzle? This seems little better than the clock tower puzzle and the rate by which snowflakes melt seems quite random. The only thing I can think of is that they melt faster the more people pass over them.
If I decide to quit I’ll just go back to Tribes or some other FPS. I don’t even like MMOs normally since I hate gear tiers and excessive grinding. This game was perfect for that right up until this last update. Now I feel like that’s slowly being taken away.
arenanet in charge of fun
Can we like.. Vote them down or something? Overthrow them?
You seem to think it easy to try to appease to thousands upon thousands of players on issues where it is mostly 50/50.
Man, if only they had form of guiding set of principles for that kind of thing.
I don’t mind one-time events, just do them better.
Oh, and stop giving out precursors and multiple exotics to the few people who actually made it to the end of the event!
Would appreciate this quote link, haven’t seen anything like that posted.

The post doesn’t specifically say players who didn’t attend but I’m not quite sure how ANet would differentiate between the two so I assume they will just do something for the community as a whole.
I just learned this. But this is Anet fault if the game is bugged and misleading people! Those misled people are upset, I’m just speaking on behalf of them.
I understand people are upset, but no matter how ANet rolls the dice people will always be upset. It is in human nature. I am just trying to provide some closure for those who are not pleased with how things went.
The most reasonable thing to do would be the have a chest appear at the docks that people who didn’t get the chance to grab could grab. Just make it loot from Southsun or whatever they need to do to justify it.
I simply cannot understand this point of view, in real life the greatest billionaires achieved their wealth were as much about luck and timing as it was skill.
If I wanted to be reminded of how unfair life was I wouldn’t be playing a game about plant-people and magical dragons.
I don’t mind missing out on one-time events. I DO mind when those one-time events give away precursors like candy and suddenly make a bunch of players super rich. Why would you do this, Anet?
I may seriously stop playing this game over that nonsense. So Anet decides to suddenly make a good 5-10% of the people who participated in this one-time event rich by handing out precursors like candy. And then screwing everyone who just wanted to participate in the event in an overflow by letting us all get to the END of the chain before sneaking in a new build. That is so incredibly disrespectful that I can’t even believe they did what they did.
So both times I’ve attempted this one-time ancient Karka event I’ve been kicked either due to apparent server overload or in the last case a new build. Is there going to be some form of compensation for people who didn’t even get to finish the final event in the chain? I hear about people getting MULTIPLE precursors from this last chest and it seems incredibly unfair that I’d be denied a chance to finish this event twice.
You can try this website: http://gw2lfg.com/
Even though all members need to be in the same world to start, if your party mates are in an overflow server you can select to “Join in” so you can all enter the fractals together.
I have two issues with this:
1. Why should I have to go for a third-party option? Why isn’t this integrated into the game?
2. How many people out of the total GW2 playerbase actually uses this? Great idea, but you can’t expect more than a small fraction to participate.
Serious question. I’ve largely avoided the new Lost Shores content until today. Now I’m noticing that almost nobody is interested in doing low level fractal runs since for the most part everyone has beaten the lower difficulties. And this will seemingly only get worse. What is the logic behind creating such a barrier between players? Especially since you can’t even run fractals with people from other servers.
What we really need is a cross-server LFG system. This is the only thing I can imagine aside from eliminating the current difficulty system (and at least allowing people to join groups of any difficulty level.) that will fix this problem.
Are you sure this new gear can be used outside of the dungeon? Maybe it should be dungeon use only.
I would love this. One caveat would be that they should be kept to specific dungeons. Basically I’m saying that there should be “normal” dungeons and “ascended” dungeons where you can use your ascended gear.
Good post, good thoughts. (but the misplaced apostrophe in the title drives me nuts… =P)
Luckily they aren’t re-prioritizing your time (I totally agree with your viewpoint on this matter) all at once, full-blown. They’ve only introduced a couple new items, meaning the grind for gear will be gradual, as items are released, rather than all the items being available now. That’s at least a bright side to a rather dim prospect.
Woe to the player that joins once the full Ascended set is out.
See, that’s what gets me. I don’t look forwards to the time when people no longer want to run normal dungeons because they don’t give fractals.
So I can understand why Anet is catering to a more gear-oriented crowd with this recent update. But people need multiple methods for getting the best gear. Otherwise it becomes boring. Why do we have to do a single dungeon, even a random one, in order to get the best gear?
And frankly even then it just feels incredibly empty. I mean, why even add more stats? Because people said there is nothing to do? Stats and tiers will never satisfy the people you are trying to please. As soon as people get Ascended gear they’ll be crying that they don’t have enough to do. You could add story campaigns, guild halls, and all the other fun stuff that means REAL progression and you’ll never satisfy that group that cares about having bigger numbers. I hope Anet gives some serious thought into making Ascended gear easier to obtain.

I believe the Guild Wars 2 manifesto video got it best when they said that nobody wants to grind to get to the cool content. Ascended gear and everything like it only serves to create a barrier for players. For example, most of my friends who play will, if ever, only get ascended gear after MONTHS of play since most aren’t even 80 yet. This just means that more content will be unavailable for us to play together. This isn’t fun.
But of course Guild Wars 2 needs progression. But what kind of progression? Well, as I’ve established, artificial barriers aren’t the way to go. Even purely statistical upgrades aren’t the way to go. So what do you do? Expand the titles, kill 2k Drakes? Now you’re “So and So, Drakebane.” Expand the home instance and give us guild halls. Let us add furniture and NPCs to our homes and make them our own. Give us more campaigns, nothing says progression like continuing the story. Give us more legendaries. Not just weapons, but also legendary armor. There are so many ways to achieve progression without going down this path of stat accumulation.
I don’t like the idea that the money I spent on fine transmutation stones will eventually be wasted. I spent that money on the understanding that my exotic armor wouldn’t be replaced. But now that’s apparently not true.
I am wondering about this myself. Why make us to grind another set of gear for a dungeon?
If the infusion gear is worst than the exotic I am wearing then I will have to wasted 11 slots just to keep that infusion gears for the new dungeon.
If the infusion gear is better than the exotic then I wasted all my money in buying exotic gears and getting the skins I like.
Both is very stupid to me.
I just don’t see any benefit to making content exclusive to a certain tier of gear. For example, I have a friend who doesn’t play quite as much as me, but we can still do a dungeons together since I scale to their level. Now there’s a whole set of dungeons that he won’t be able to do because of this mechanic since he doesn’t play enough to grind for exotics, let alone this ascended gear.
I don’t understand all the outcry over this ascended gear.
Like, at all.
What did we have before it?
Exotics/Legendaries
Were they on par with each other statwise?
Yes.
What are we getting now?
Ascended gear/new legendaries
Will they be on par with each other as well as existing legendaries?
Yes.
Is ascended gear simply new “exotics” and provides the playerbase with even more content to strive for and benefit from?
Yes. It does.
Is it a treadmill?
No. Aside from one special, completely optional circumstance, no amount of gear or combination of gear is required to experience content in this game aside from the obvious need to be at an appropriate level.
Why are we whining here folks?
The ceiling has been raised a bit in terms of gear. That’s it. Ascended gear could have just has easily been in the game prior to this patch so what’s the issue?
Seriously, someone explain to me why this is a problem.
Ascended gear has better stats than the exotic equivalent.
In Guild Wars 1 infusion was simply something applied to your armor that helped you complete certain events. If we’re going to require more and more infused gear why not treat it the same way? You just go through a dungeon, get your gear infused, and then go and complete the events you want to complete with that gear. Why have things complicated with yet another tier of gear? Does anyone really want that?
Furthermore, what about the people who spent money on fine transmutation stones on the understanding that if we were transmuting exotic gear we wouldn’t be turning around and transmuting it again since exotic was the highest tier there was going to be?

More difficulty and more epic encounters are the only progressions that combat needs. You don’t need stats for that.
I really think that MMO devs need to take a look at action games. Of course you can’t expect an MMO to be as action-y as an action game. But they manage a sense of progression without gear stats. That’s with increasingly more epic encounters and difficult fights. That’s how you know you’re going somewhere.
i dont understand this kittening at all. u mad.
it was OK for everyone that the game have fine->masterwork->rare->exotic gear progression, and now when a.net decides to put one more in between exotic and legendary for whatever reason ppl start kittening and saying that ‘they will leave the game’ and ‘ask for refund’, oh c’mon, you cant be serious.
1 more tier set != gear treadmill. qqmore.
The point is that it’s one more tier FOR NOW. Who knows what else they will add?
All of the responses here reminds me of the tiered trait system unveil.
There were much more people in favor of the trait tiers than this…
The problem here was that since the beginning we were told there wouldn’t be a gear treadmill. Then they added exotics, now they’ve added ascended. What’s next? I don’t care about gear at all, I just want to be able to enjoy all the content in the game. But I can’t even do that since some of this new content requires ascended gear and presumably that will also be the case in the future. I actually question the whole need for different item stats. I would love it if things were just in like spvp, you get your accessories to customize your stats. But the items themselves would remain the same and level with you.
This whole thing is just really disheartening to me. Look, I don’t mind a bit of progression but what about those of us who want to play multiple characters? It’s already going to be annoying enough to level up my alt, but now I have another level of rarity to deal with? Heck, not to mention the fact that I’ll either have to waste MORE transmutation stones, or I’ll have to wait even longer for my characters to look like I want them to look.
Game client losing connection with server

In the past few days I’ve noticed a big problem with my game client losing it’s connection to the server and dropping me from the game. This appears totally unrelated to my internet connection, as my wireless router usually shows I have a strong connection when this happens.

Right, as I said the issue is with the waypoints no the leveling. I don’t care about leveling my character. I DO care that I have to go back and get all these different waypoints again just so I can do things like the Shatterer or even teleport around LA without it being an annoyance.

So I’m considering leveling an alt now that I’ve played my level 80 Guardian about as much as I think I want to. The problem I’m having is that going back and rediscovering every single Waypoint is a bit of a pain. I’d love if there was some way to use Gift of Exploration (or something) to craft an item that unlocks all Waypoints. That way it would only be available to people who have completed the map at least once and didn’t feel like redoing everything.
as people sad in other posts achievement for clock tower doesn’t count to Emissary of the Mad King
So what’s the clock tower achievement about if it doesn’t count towards the mad king? I was under the impression that it was for the title.
It’s still optional. Not having a title doesn’t impede your game progression. Besides, I think you only need to complete 5 events to get the title.
You can’t please everyone.
No, but it does impede my enjoyment of the game since I wanted the title. Of course I was willing to work for it. And I’d never want them to NOT have the clock tower available for those that wanted to do it. I just think it’s inconsiderate to have it be a core achievement for the event. What’s next? Jumping puzzles for dungeons?
Anecdotal evidence. I’ve got a win streak of over 30 with some random costume from the cauldron.
I just want Quaggan minis.
