Achievment “Untethered” won’t be rewarded, even if I wasn’t being hit by the vine whips.
Also, there was no indication-icon for all of the achievements in this instance.

Same here. Tarir Meta a minute ago, only a few seconds left for win (one side was about to kill the last Octovine) – crash. Kitten crash. It crashes all the time, the whole day long and I have NO idea why. It crashes regularly in the new HoT maps and at world bosses (karka, for example: first time I get there I get to see the queen, then crash, then new map).

It even crashed while I did nothing at all – being afk. I see patch notes with “fixed a client crash” and ask myself… how many client crashes are there to be fixed? It’s no fun to play anymore…

I think they are just there to get some easy mastery points for testing purposes.
The achievements are fairly easy to get and don’t reward that much points.

No, you can get ascended gear outside of fractals (crafting, random drop) and there, you don’t even need it, exotic is just fine.

The new legendary armor can be acquired via raids, but the stats will be on par with ascended – except you can change them outside of combat.

You’ll miss some skins and the legendary back piece as far as I know. But if you do not care about changing stats outside of combat, that won’t be a problem.

I also felt like it was easier than before. It felt strangely way too easy… but then again, Mordrem Snipers seemed to love me, because they always shot me down and while downed, they wouldn’t let me heal up. They changed their target to other players and as soon as I could heal myself, they shot me again just to interrupt. It was like they knew what they were doing to keep me down as much as possible!

At this point I fear people will complain about the missing trinity so much, that Arenanet will, at some point, introduce it to the game – and that will be the point GW2 will fail… hard.

Combat with hard trinity involved is predictable and simply boring. The way it is now – with different roles and everyone being able to fill the role they want – is good. It depends much more on people keeping an eye on the whole situation, rather than on health bars and cooldowns.

It sure needs some tweaks to get away from the zerker meta, but trinity is not the solution.

Events Feedback

I was looking for a topic like that.

I really like the events in Verdant Brink so far, they make the zone feel alive and carry the story around the crash so well. But I think, or better it feels like the events are too hard.
Don’t get me wrong, I like a good challenge, but I have the feeling the scaling of the events for this beta is a little bit off. We did the Pale Reaver Event (the one with the great vine) with 3 or 4 people and we were constantly downed, the mobs wouldn’t die and they pushed too many attacks too close in a row. It felt like we were doing an event designated for 10+ people. There was even a champ mordrem troll spamming bee-fields all over us.

Arenanet needs to look into the scaling of events and make sure it works right, so that events that are not marked as ’group events" are possible to do.

Besides that, they were great fun and I didn’t mind the constant downtime that much – but I can see others will struggle with that.

You don’t even need to dodge… simply keep on moving to the side and his shot will miss. zick-zack like running away from a crocodile…

He killed me because I hadn’t payed any attention to him (being on my mesmer and on revenant). As a mesmer, you shouldn’t even have a problem with him, as soon es he starts to aim, pop Feedback on him and he will one shot himself.

Yeah it’s pretty neat!

Although I noticed that it’s only during a portion of the conversation (while Majory and Laranthir speak, for example) and the rest of it was the old “open mouth, close mouth, don’t move lips”.

I was really glad to see they brought back the technology they used for the face to face conversation cinematics in the open world, it would be a shame if that’d go to waste.

Please Arenanet, it might be a small detail, but pretty please extend the lip sync technology to everything! Player shouts, every conversation between NPCs and so on, if it’s possible. I love it!

First impression on the story instance

(I’m trying to avoid spoilers, so anyone can enjoy the instance when the expansions arrives.)

I really have to write this down, so I won’t forget it. It’s the first time we can play the story instance with different races, it has also been updated to be a bit longer and more involving.

The first thing I noticed (of course, I did know about that before from the stress tests) is that your character finally speaks again! But that’s not all! The lip sync is back!
While this may be a small feature not many will see or notice, I noticed it on a first glance and it made me really happy that Arenanet is bringing this technology back. It looks so much more “alive”.
Also, the characters try to look at each other. While there is more room for improvement (facing the one who is talking), it’s a nice little detail that I really appreciate!

I played the story instance with a newly created Sylvari Revenant. It was challenging. I like that! I died a few times and it didn’t even bother me. It may be because I don’t know how to handle the Revenent yet and I don’t know the mechanics of the Mordrem, but it’s great to see the potential of the combat system is getting used.

For the Sylvari part of the Story (mild spoilers, but not any details): I really love how the NPCs acknowledge what race I am and how differently they interacted with me. I knew the story from a human point of view, but the Sylvari point of view is a really cool twist to the story play.

Please keep that up – it’s great

After a second playthrough with a mesmer I noticed the advanced lip-sync is only active during a small portion of the conversation. I hope this is a bug, because it looks so kitten awesome and hopefully it’ll find a way into the old world, all characters and all player shout outs.

They are great! While I died a few times myself, I actually enjoyed the challenge. You really have to look what they’re doing, when they’re doing it and how you can counter it.

This is what the combat about Guild Wars 2 always should have been! No longer standing around and using only auto attack. So: It’s fine!

Please don’t turn this into developer bashing. Roy did a good job with the base design of the class – and keep in mind it’s not even finished.

It NEEDS constructive feedback and critisism. Don’t attack the developers in such a hard way. I’m reading “fire that guy” – what the kitten? Seriously? Why do you think there is this revenant beta weekend? They want our feedback on it! “Fire that guy” is neither a good, nor constructive feedback.

Write down your ideas, what you think is missing, doesn’t work etc. But not this.

OP’s suggestion is: Get Rob on board. He did a great job on other classes and maybe he can help with the Revenant.

Here’s my feedback (I posted this in another thread, but I feel like it should also be here, in the merged thread):

The revenant needs weapon swap. While the Elementalist and the Engineer only have one weapon set at a time, their skills make up for that:

- The Elementalist has 4 attunements, all of which change the whole weapon attacks. That makes 4*5 Weapon Skills per 2-handed weapon / dual wield weapons. On top of that, the elementalist has free choice of utility and elite skills. And I even forgot the magic weapons the ele can summon.

- The Engineer has his kits, which again change the whole lot of weapon attack skills – and he has a lot of that! Flamethrower, Grenades, Toolkit, Bombs, the other thing with the healing field (forgot the name xD), Mortar. In theory, that is 6*5 + 5 skills for the equipped weapon(s). Hey may not be able to fully customize other utility skills due to the kits, but the tool belt makes up for that.

And here comes the Revenant: He has only one weapon set which skills don’t even change based on the activated legends. Furthermore he cannot customize the heal, the utility AND the elite skill – because they are bound to the legends, and he can only equip and swap between two at a time.

While the idea behind the legends is a great concept and is also really fun to play, the restriction of weapon choice while in combat puts the revenant at a huge disadvantage.

An elementalist can change it’s role from damage to support by switching attunements. An engineer can go from ranged to melee with his toolkit or be supportive or put out conditions with other kits… but the revenant is bound the weapon he equipped – and that is only one role, while the legends define the role of the utility skills.

It feels a bit underwhelming and clunky – it feels like there’s something missing.
My suggestion if you see a problem with weapon swap: bind it to the engery. Make it cost like 10 – 25% of the engery upon weapon swap or give it a condi-like buff which drains energy for x seconds.

Collections?

I was just about to start a thread regarding these collections on my own! Thank you for starting one

How can it be, that the collections are buggy since they’ve been released? No one seems to care (neither Arenanet, nor the players), but I find this quite disturbing. I am hoarding tons of champion bags just in case the collection will be fixed someday. At least I hope it will be.

Does Arenanet know about this bug? Are they working on this – or at least looking into this?

Got stuck in Blazeridge Steppes some minutes ago with my mesmer, tried guesting, got unstuck and put back into Mount Maelstorm. Then I tried going to BS while guesting and got stuck again. Since you can guest on two different servers per day, I freed my character and will (at least for today) not go anywhere near Blazeridge Steppes or Lornars Pass.

This is a serious problem. Corrupted Maps? Needs to be fixed asap. I hope the devs are on it.

I’m pretty sure it’s nothing new by now, but I logged in today with one of my alts in Kessex Hills, and noticed for the first time myself that the Kessex Haven Waypoint is flickering and making weird buzzing noises like when a lightbulb is about to expire.

There’s going to be a vine right next to it, i guarantee it :P

I agree with wp theory too. Both wp in Skrittsburg have vines next to them. One of them, Tunnels Waypoint in Skrittsburg, has grown and it has started tangle the wp

I’d really love to see dynamic weather in all of the zones.
It doesn’t have to be storms, though. Heavy rain, a cloudless sky or thick fog could be options as well. Also, the idea of darker nights is great.

What is more, these types of weather should not be linked with a specific timer on when they occur… like it is now with the sandstorm.

I really love the sandstorm but it’s just predictable due to the timed event. It takes away the moment of surprise :/

I know there are threads containing this kind of information – or people are witnessing it.
But today I noticed a new vine popping up at the Prosperity Waypoint in Dry Top. It wasn’t there before and I couldn’t have missed this one, as I used that waypoint fairly often.

I really like the spreading and things happening from day to day, it really feels immersive.

Are there other waypoints outside of Dry Top that have these vines next to them? I know of one in Skrittsburg but no other so far. Have you noticed some?

There is no difference gameplay wise. The orange ones are redesigned AoE Circles for better visibility. The old red “outlines” are barely visible at some point, so they redesigned them on new or updated encounters (like Jungle Worm in Caledon Forest).

I really love the rearranged Lion’s Arch Theme. It’s really sad at the beginning but turns into a theme of new hope.

I also like the atmosphere, the sun shining through the clouds and the calmness within the city.

But then again, I don’t understand why now. I killed red and blue once within 6 minutes and green more than – let’s assume – 12 times within 6 minutes, all before the loot patch. After that and hearing the achievement would still be buggy, I didn’t really care and tried it one or two times. With that in mind, I should have got the achievement a long time before, since I should have been flagged in the database for every kill within 6 minutes. It’s confusing and now I’m getting a headache

Anyways, it’s good some people are trying to figure that one out and the achievement should be fixed – or if it takes too long, Anet should just give the achievement to everyone after the event is over, since it has to be pure luck to get that specific achievement.

As far as I can remember, every time I tried some different Knight over the past week, it took around 3 to 6 minutes. Today was the first time all three knights were killed within the 6 minute timeframe.

I did red and blue only one time, but stayed with green most of the time.

I don’t really understand what you say…
I didn’t kill individual knights… I tried the achievement since release of the patch and just got it after todays patch (and the successful event, of course).

I did the event twice today, one time we managed to kill all three knights within the time frame (read it as: “we didn’t make it in 6 minutes”), the other time we managed to kill all three knight within 6 minutes. I stayed at green. I didn’t go to blue or red and that was the try I got the achievement.

I got the “Six Minutes to Knightfall” Achievement just an hour ago and got bombarded with questions what I did and if I got down or something else.

I was at the green Knight, we burned it in less than 1 minute and after the other two knights were dead within the 6 minute limit, I got the achievement… though only another player got it with me, the rest of the 148 players are still missing the achievement. I don’t know why it’s so random.

I just tried it again and got the “Tune In” achievement, but not the “No More Tricks” one… and I really did evade all visible lasers (I don’t know if there are attacks you can’t predict, if so, it’s really bad design) and haven’t been downed the whole fight. I’m 100% sure I wasn’t hit a single time by any of the AEs and did not get the achievement. I guess it’s rng again… or should I really just stand there and do nothing? That’s not really an “achievement”…

Leech, get yourself a blueprint, build a backpack, and then go to the southwest of the map, and work your way to the vista. On the way there, on the right there’ll be a portal that will let you in if you’re wearing that back item. It allows for skipping straight to Scarlet.

You don’t even have to wear it.

Perhaps it depends on the phase she’s in? At first she starts with one line to her front, then with an additional line behind her and finally four lines (front, left, right, behind).

The sad thing is that they could make the achievement possible to get rather easily, simply by moving the entrance point to a spot between her laser patterns.

I don’t think this is possible. The hologram fires the laser patterns towards the player who’s got aggro. If it happens to be a player standing in the direction of the entrance… well there goes your achievement. Poof.

A possible solution would be to set the entrance to a higher platform and have people to jump down in order to fight the hologram.

I’m sick of these achievements and I won’t bother trying them again.
You can’t see what is a laser attack and what not, you get hit randomly without any warning, you enter the portal right on a laserbeam… there is no chance to even get the achievement.

The other one where you have to hit the hologram with the right attunements (Tune in, I guess) is even worse. It encourages players to NOT do any attacks. You just have to get the prime light attunement once, hit a few times for participation credit and then you try to not attack anything at all. :/

Besides that, it’s a good fight, but the achievements really destroy ist somehow.

There’s a more subtle (wrong) clue. Then NPCs tell me they want me to take the lead, so reasonably they would be behind me, so that I can lead them towards the boss. By that clue, the direction to go is up the stairs, not down.

Other (wrong pointing) clue. In the cinematic we see Scarlet on top of the drill machine, hence it pretty reasonable to expect to go up and out onto the roof to finish the fight.

Third (wrong pointing) clue. In progressing in instances, you generally tend to proceed in same direction. Since we just ported up, I would expect to continue moving up.

Personally… When they said they wanted me to lead, I started heading up, but then noticed that they weren’t following me, and then turned around and went down. (The reason that I was more cautious and double checked what the NPCs were doing is that I’ve made the exact sort of mistake as the OP in the past.)

Re the green star: It appears in solo instances to show you where to go for your personal story. If its in a solo instance that is not related to your personal story, then it shows the exit. This is bad and sloppy design.

The whole point of a quest pointer like the green star is to show you where to go for the quest. The whole point is to hold the players hand and tell them the right way to go. Which means that its failing miserably here since its actually pointing the wrong way to go. What Anet should do is just not show the green star in solo instances that are unrelated to the personal story.

Now could you argue that a more careful player should not make the mistakes? Sure. But its besides the point. Given the miscues, its inevitable that notable percentage of the players will make the wrong choice here. And that’s Anet’s fault. Part of design is to be aware of the cues that you’re handing out — and to make sure that they are the right cues.

What are you even talking about?
We saw Scarlet on top of the drill in the cinematic two weeks ago. That’s no idication anymore. If you follow the events and fight the hologram on top, you can see Scarlet walking inside, even if you follow her and port into the story instance, you get a small cinematic which leads you down to the npcs to talk to. I’d say everything points down, from following Scarlet inside to the cinematic upon entering the instance.

Personal Story Quest-Marker usually points to objectives in your Personal Story. Since your Personal Story takes place outside of the Breachmarker, it’s only logical that the green star is at the exit. Living Story has it’s own quest marker, the yellow star. You can argue that this one is missing here, but the green star is always at the exit if you’re not in your Personal Story.

Edit: I’m just trying to get the “Nowhere to hide” achievement and noticed: There is a yellow star. No mistakes on Arenanet’s side, just on yours.

I guess she is in Lion’s Arch, we saw that in the cinematic. Why should she use a hologram instead? No one can reach her on top of the drill right now.

I guess the other characters (maybe just Braham) told Taimi that Scarlet isn’t there so she won’t get into trouble.

I got it on an overflow server, on my main server (Kodash) they didn’t show up at all

Did it just 30 minutes ago with all 7 Moas alive and several of the spawning mobwaves killed (gold credit) – no “All Bets are off” achievement.

Same with defend events – never seen one of these happen O__o
