Do you get the guild commendations if you are guesting on a server?
Do you get the guild commendations if you are not in the guild that activated?
Do you get the guild commendations if you are guesting and are not part of the guild that activated?
Do you get the guild commendations if you are in the guild that activated but your home server is not their home server?

Honestly ... sPvP is a failed endeavor.

I think Subject Alpha needs some work

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Bullwinkel.7839

Overall subject alpha is destroying too many members of my group. Path 1 is easy to compensate for as we can all stack together for it.

Path 3, will work fine with some effort for the first and second encounters:
Stand still with two concentric circles around you
Move when the outer circle is blinking.

Use pillars and help team-mates out of crystals when they get caught on encounter 2.

Encounter 3 is just… terrible.

We can’t engage him without someone getting caught in the crystal, and even if we release the person, everyone who can’t dodge properly is going to get taken out by the circle aoes all bunched up like that.

Or… when everyone is running to engage, and he crystalizes then immediately drops the circles. That person in the crystal is dead.

I spent one encounter where my pet and I were the only things being trapped in the crystal, and my party members would still die.

They have rare or exotic gear, and the ONLY thing they are running into trouble with appears to be the dodges.

If they get caught in a crystal, they are dead. There is no way out of it for them. When we group up to break the crystal, that person WILL die because they will get hit with the concentric circle aoe.

If we range from a distance, the damage we have to do does not leave enough time for that person to dodge/shield/heal.

There seem to be some skills that used to help get out of crystals… Summon Flesh Worm -> Necrotic Traversal for example… but that flesh worm is subject to being beat on by the aoe as well.

The damage being done by subject alpha is too high for your average guild of players to manage.

These are people that will make mistakes… who can’t complete jumping puzzles without falling, and who don’t know that getting that dodge off a split second before the effect hits them is what matters.

They dodged… they expect to avoid the attack. The timing and split-second response is not for them.

Maybe the dungeon isn’t for them. Maybe they can’t do this because of lag, age, or just the inability to play “at that level”.

At which point it isn’t fun… much less rewarding,

If I have to choose between people that can run a dungeon, and friends that try to enjoy playing the game – it becomes a pretty simple choice.

We’d like it to be adjusted properly for your average player. Not your skilled player. Skilled players have PvP, fractals, and every new piece of content that comes out the moment it comes out.

We just want to enjoy a dungeon together…. any dungeon, any time, with anyone (PUG/Guildie/Newbie).

Your request to have the majority of the game tailored to noobs/pugs is silly. Why would I want to run fractals all day? The biggest joke is that you claim there is even a PvP scene. The Alpha fight is already mind numbingly boring. The fight can be broken down like this:

Step 1: DPS
Step 2: See Red Circles
Step 3: Count to 2
Step 4: Dodge
Step 5: Repeat

Just watch a video of how its supposed to be done. If you’re still dying from the AoE effect, just re-calibrate your count. If you die before your dodge, your count is too slow. If you die after, your count is too fast. The solution to the crystals is to have everybody use melee cleave weapons.

People need to stop QQing… seriously.

Dungeon Scaling Used for Evil

I remember when gw2 was going through development and the whole dungeon scaling was discussed. I thought it was a GREAT concept, helping to prevent dungeons from going obsolete and allowing for faster party formations for low and high level characters.

Its really backfired, leading to all dungeons becoming level 80-only playgrounds.

I think this is a perfect example of a good mechanic implimented by a creative development team that ended up being twisted and broken by the player base.

People run dungeons to get the tokens and the money. People don’t want to take lower lvls because they in general have lower dps, lower party support, and lower survivability when compared to 80’s. In the name of efficiency, people don’t want to waste time with non-80’s.

In my opinion, it is the “strategies” such as all-in-melee that are preventing some people to learn how to play effectively. People should be learning how to properly avoid all attacks, not relying on everyone being nearby to pick them up.

Yes, and mistakes happen. If someone makes one mistake on the other side of the room, there is no way you are going to be able to pick them up. The melee “strategy” as you would say, does not prevent people from learning how to play properly. If you accumulate too much DP, the next time you go down you get defeated. You can’t pick someone up from defeated state very easily.

Melee is the superior “strategy” when it comes to Alpha. It offers the most DPS and it is the most forgiving.

Bullwinkel.7839

The main problem with Alpha is that all 5 members need not to mess up. If even just one member gets downed, it can cause a domino effect of others going down while trying to get him up. Alpha’s hp was never the problem. His hits are just very hard, and now with no wp rushing, his hits are a little too hard to be balanced for a group of random players playing random classes.

It is still, ultimately, a learn to play issue, but expecting all 5 members to play perfectly is kind of unreasonable. There needs to be a little more slack given.

This inconsistency can be solved by having everybody melee. If someone does go down, you have 4 people right there reviving instantly.

Alpha is fine. Just tell the person with Ice to go ranged and get the rest of the team to stack and dodge every 3 seconds when he does his attack. It’s a l2p problem instead of difficulty problem.

Why on earth would you have the person with ice go range? If he kittens up then everybody as to run over to pick him up. If he gets put in a crystal, everyone has to run over to break him out. That also means he has to deal with the earth spike line attack. The party has to dodge already, with or without the ice on them. People make this fight too complicated. If you stand in Alpha, you don’t have to worry about the dragon tooth or the earth lines spike. Just stay in melee and spam the rez key if somebody goes down. To make the fight even easier, push him into a wall/corner. After you do this just dodge forward into the wall, that way your party stays even closer together and so you don’t to run back to alpha.

You should first lvl a guardian. It’s useful everywhere. After you get more proficient at the game and/or you have a dedicated team, lvl a warrior. Reason being, warriors commonly fill 3 spots in a party comp.

Guardians are more pug friendly. Warriors are not really because if you have no party support, you’re going to have a rough time staying up.

as a ranger, i’d love to use more team utilities….. if i had them

Rangers have two great ones. Healing Spring is heal, regen, condition heal, and combo field. They also have Signet of Renewal, which can pull all conditions from all allies to your pet. I always run these in dungeons.

Healing spring is bad because it requires people to sit in a field that heals for barley any HP. If your fighting
A. Dungeon Trash
B. Dungeon Bosses

YOU WILL NEED TO KITE OR DIE. Its like telling a Water Ele to heal you through Kholer Spin attack, or heal through a graveling scavanger Aoe Knockdown. Just wont happen. So you sit in a field, take massive dps and die, or walk through the field for 1 second, getting like 300hp, and walk out to avoid dying. On paper it sounds great, in reality, its not great.

If you’re not melee, chances are you’re doing it wrong. Every heard of blast finishers? Yeah, the ranger spring is awesome.

For PvE, any gear that adds + condition damage is a complete waste. You’ll want to find you’re favorite mix of (mostly) Zerkers (power, precision, crit dmg), knights and soldiers armor. I would first start with adding exquisite ruby jewels to all your amulets, rings, back piece and accessories. After that, I would get the shoulders, gloves, and boots in zerker. If you still want more damage after that, get your weapon in zerker as well. If you are doing fractals as well, get the zerker rings (red ring of death etc…) and amulet when it becomes available to you.

They would do a run or two of DOA trenchway in less than an hour each. Content in gw2 is far easier than DOA. Content is intended to be earned not given away.

Need Help deciding on Guardian Equipment

I think you should take a look at this post as well. His gear setup is very well thought out. It is a little more forgiving than mine. As you progress farther into the game and begin to get better and understand more of the mechanics, you’ll want to start adding more damage. The reason for this is the fact that most of the stuff that will end up killing you in higher lvl areas will kill you regardless of the armor/hp you have.

Just want to reiterate this one point though, AH is easily the best trait the guardian has available. Over the coarse of longer fights (like Magg path in CoF and many fights in CoE) you’ll end up healing for 5-10k effectively increasing your health pool dramatically. The best party support you bring to the team is staying alive. By staying alive, you will most likely have mob aggro. If you have mob aggro, that means your team can’t die because they aren’t getting hit.

For Offense

Soldier head, chest, legs
Zerk shoulder, gloves, boots
Knights accessories with ruby jewels
Zerker ascended rings and amulet (Until you get the ascended, just get the exo zerk/knights)

3k+ power
~75-80 crit dmg
~33% crit chance
~15.5k hp
~2.7k armor

Edit: I would spec 0/0/30/30/10. AH is too good to not have.
Edit2: Don’t spec into healing power with armor. The +300 in honor is enough. You’re better off going more toughness.

The problem is you’re not as good as other people. Now, because you’re not as good (bad enough even of not finish the dungeon), should the dungeon be nerfed down to you’re skill lvl? I have a fairly large group of friends who do AC all the time. On our first set of run when we all bring 80’s, we can do all three paths in less than 30m. After that, 2-3 usually brings alts and all three paths usually about 45-50. You need to just find a group of people and refine your party strategy and makeup. This is just a L2P issue. Many bosses hit hard in melee. If you’re going to melee, most of the time your going to spec for being able to take a couple bit hits. If you’re ranged, you’re less likely to spec into defense. Regardless, melee DPS is much higher than ranged. If everyone was to melee (adequately), dungeon content would get cleared faster.

Ascended gear...

Bullwinkel.7839

Is the worst thing to have ever happened to GW.

For starters, I have no problem with a new gear tier if it were reasonable to obtain like exotics. My beef with the new tier system is it takes an incredibly long time to acquire one piece for one character let alone enough gear to outfit my two two alts. There is no way in hell I’m going to be able to get ascended amulets on my main let alone my alts anytime soon.

The thing that bothers me the most is the very limited way in which we have to acquire the new gear. If it were my choice, the new ascended gear would have retained the same stats as exotics but have included an additional upgrade slot for infusions. The new gear would only be used as a method to progress further in fractals. Instead of developing new gear that takes an eternity to acquire, devs should instead be focused on polishing the game as it stands now.

Every dungeon is able to be facerolled. However, the key is teamwork and organization. It boils down to the efficiency of your team. In general, you want your team makeup to consist of 1-2 “tanks” (specced to mitigate damage and support teammates) maybe 2-3 players specced into damage and support and 1 player devoted to dealing as much damage as possible. Knowing the dungeon/encounter is key as well because you need to know how to build your character to handle your role in the party. The game ditched the “holy trinity” as people like to call it because they wanted all the classes to be able to do everything (granted some classes can do some roles better than others but for the most part this holds true).
