Darkhaven isn’t empty and we’re not dying… we’re far larger in overall population than our WvW rank suggests. Gendarran very frequently has a rather lengthy queue since the recent patches hit, let alone LA…

All in all, no the game is not dying, thousands of people play every day on the one (relatively small) server that you’re on, and there are 50 other servers…

No offense but I am not seeing what you are and I don’t think you have the data to say that thousands of people play per day, that is just a number you are pulling out of the air.

I was in WvW last night alone….literally…the most action I found was 2 hours later a commander and like 5 people got in and we just walked up to all the places and took them with 0 resistance, a siege golum and a battering ram.

I am not trying to start a fight or anything, but please don’t be blind to the fact people are leaving.

That being said I am going to keep trying and check out the PvE areas more…maybe I am hanging out in the wrong spots. Thanks for the input guys!

I am on Darkhaven and have friends who are on other servers who just tried to come back themselves.

Both my server and their servers seem dead. I couldn’t find anyone to talk to in map chat in whats left of Lion’s Arch for a long time. Then I went into WvW and literally no one was there.

No map chat or anything until one other person from my realm ported in.

I keep trying to come back every few months to give GW2 another chance, but it just seems the population drops dramatically every time I try.

I couldn’t agree more OP…The game could be great and I truly want it to be….ANet strayed from their promises and turned it’s back on their own foundation of an amazing world they created.

The game is bleeding out now and it is heartbreaking.

The purpose of the thread is to show the devs what the community doesn’t like so they can hopefully correct what they see in game now, or avoid such things in future development.

I would rather them fix the very long list of things causing them to lose accounts before allowing me to hug my wife in game…it is also way more satisfying to hug my wife IRL…

Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

No GW2 is not doing well at all…it is dying.

Don’t let these whiteknights argue and tell you otherwise because all they are doing is trying to convince themselves.

If you want to see it for yourself just log in and look at the population declining before your very eyes…

You might want to look up dying in the dictionary. I’m not sure it means what you think it means.

ANY MMO that’s dying will start reducing it’s staff. Most MMOs don’t have a staff of 300 to begin with. Games that did badly like Star Wars ToR and TSW (or at least well below expectation) fired percentages of their staff. And because these are public companies, they have to let people know when there’s a lay off or they can be in serious trouble.

NCsoft is also a public company. So if the game is doing badly why is Anet hiring?

Do you know why you don’t have an answer? Because you have nothing but anecdotal evidence that the game is dying. The game is making money or there would be lay offs. And if it’s making money…it’s not dying.

Haha I could say the same things about your arguments…

You don’t have any facts on why they are hiring or how well they are doing. You have no idea on their finances either..

What I can speak to is what I see….so go ahead and whiteknight all you want and get good and fired up, I don’t care…you aren’t trying to convince me really, you are trying to convince yourself that every thing is ok…and in doing so you don’t even realize people like you are a true cancer to a game.

Who are you going to believe, the ‘Full’ status markers, the getting kicked into overflow trying to visit Southsun, the fact that only now nine months later has Anet reduced the box cost, or the desperate trolls of the First Name Only Haters Club?

ANet already came out and said that the “Full” status is not indicating how many people are online but how many characters reside on the server.

I really don’t understand how we could have so little done to the game with such a large team. Anet has been very quiet about their plans, which makes me think we are going to see(hopefully soon) a blog post that will blow us away. Maybe they have 100 people working on a project that’s been going on since before release.

300 employees doesn’t equal 300 devs, though. There’s a Q&A department which just tests stuff. There people who answer phones. There’s people who do admin stuff. There’s marketing people. And of course artists and programmers. The programmers would be spread out. I seriously doubt the guys working on SPvP work on WvW and neither probably works on PvE.

So yeah, a lot of people, but it’s not surprising that progress is made incrimentally.

I do understand that, but it still seems like things are happening slowly. I’m mainly looking at you living story.

Trion is said to have about 200 employees, have you checked their patch notes on rift? They are also maintaining more than one mmo. They were recently hit with layoffs, so we will have to see how that affects them.

I played Rift for a while when it launched. Several months in fact. Let me tell you about how Rift works.

Rift, when I was there, made ZILLIONS of changes all the time. Multiple times a week. Do you have any idea how many times I logged and had to respec because they completely changed my skill and skill tree. At one point it was twice, three times a week.

They try stuff that doesn’t work and then they make more changes that don’t work and they finally may make a couple of changes that do work, but they’re not going free to play because the world is full of people playing that game.

Rift has some of the worst updates I’ve ever seen for a game. They had to do a full apology for their first big world event. As bad as the karka event was, the Rift world event was far worse.

Rift makes a lot of changes, and that’s part of the problem. They were new to the MMO space and they were trying to find their way. And in making all those changes, there was never any chance of balancing anything.

Slow, steady change is the very best way to update an MMO.

I remember that first event.

The reason there was a big stink over it, was because they also made that event weekend Free to Play but didn’t give login priority to paying members.

This resulted in people who were paying missing the event completely while the free to play people enjoyed it.

Rift was very much praised (on my server and forums) for the fast updates and balance changes…yeah there were some people yelling STOP FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY STOP!….

But the majority of the players liked how fast out of control builds, bugs and exploits were addressed.

In my opinion Rift fell short in the end game, I remember capping my level and going “What now?” followed by a resounding “nothing”…the pvp matches were all vs premades with no separate queue and the raids were just a little boring.

The Rifts themselves turned out to be a gimmick (Like some people call DE’s in GW2) and quickly lost their attraction in the later game.

But Rift like GW2 also did a lot of good things, its just in that situation the bad strongly outweighed the good.

I remember back before I took a break, that there was a red post that stated there was either 2 or 3 people working on PvP in the game.

I would like to point out that when I say the population has decreased, it is my anecdotal evidence from the amount of people I saw a few months ago in zones compared to the amount of people I’ve seen when I’ve logged in the last couple weeks. I’ve heard it’s because of everyone bouncing server to server for the chest events, but couldn’t say for sure.
I’ve tried many times to play more, I just get turned off by the lack of people talking in map chat and the lack of people around. Feels like a single player game with a bad story. If I want a single player game with a story I’d play a bioware game.

I can see our point in this…When the game first came out I remember wait times etc…now I fully expected those to taper off, but then I started seeing less and less people….Then I took my long break and when I came back it has been a ghost town….everywhere I go.

I talked to my friends who were on larger server and they signed on and told me theirs was a ghost town to, and not just from their own viewing…they asked their server as did I, and the community spoke out saying it was the same in a lot of places…

When I left I was on an American server, WvWvW battles non stop, yo ucouldn’t throw a stick without hitting a fight.

I came back….I have bee nmoved to a French server since apparently my other server got shut down (what I was told) and there is pretty much NO WvWvW going on no matter what time I attempt…

This game had so much potential, but after reading the reports about the % sales being down and % of population leaving, it really does make me sad because this dev team had my full support and then after launch it was like we got a whole new team that just didn’t listen…

Sorry if it comes across as me dissing the devs or GW2 because I am not, I am just sad at the lost potential…

GW1 after 1 year release 2 expansion. we have another 3 month for GW2 1st anniversary. what will happen? expansion coming up?

i have only 1 wish. don’t make expansion like stupid plug in version. i really like the way they make GW1 expansion. new world, new class, and also. story. everything NEW. can keep the same feel of GW. also can link with the original.

That make GW so special !

i will spend the full price on this.. won’t spend half price for stupid plug in.

what do you think guys?

I think GW1 was doing a lot better than GW2 at that time and was in a better position to turn out expansions…

Not saying GW2 wont, but their resources are a lot more limited because of the 40%+ drop in sales last quarter.

gratz on hitting 80 OP. hope you enjoyed the ride. feel free to hang around the parkground and check out some of our smaller attractions, or perhaps try one of our other rides as a different person? be sure to also visit our gift shop on your way out and see our collectibles!

so… I’ve never seen the point to this argument. to me an MMO is just like a rollercoaster at a theme park. You have a lot of ups and downs in a thrill ride going from start to end, and you have a great time. Everything else feels tame in comparison once finishing the big ride. What I usually do is just do the ride again, or leave the theme park. Where’s the confusion here?

I think the problem is, a lot of people have left this park and to an extent is scares the people still there so they flame those who say anything bad about it.

They just don’t get all it does is make the community look worse to potential new players and winds up hurting more than helping.

Chris.7653

Most of forum posts are people that lost a fight and come to QQ about it. Most of those are people that haven’t taken the time to figure out how things work in the game, and just assume that there is a bug or OP exploit.

That being said, I think there are plenty of good suggestions that are being considered. However, it takes time and resources that may not be there yet. After all, PVE/WvW is by far the favored area of the game, and is currently the money maker.

It is unfortunate, because the resources are probably allocated to what makes more in the gem store – sPVP is getting strangled by policy. They aren’t making money so they dont put resources into it like they should, and players are leaving because the necessary development resources aren’t getting put into play, preventing the growth that is needed to bring people into/back to spvp.

Shame. sPvP is a blast in this game, but I am almost ready to go back to WoW just for variety instead of the same 4 classes with the same 4 builds on the same 4-5 maps all the time.

I can agree with you on this one. The lack of variety is one of the biggest flaws in my opinion.

I know there is way more wrong and way more right with it, but the same maps vs the same builds and same classes is very annoying and boring.

it’s pretty obvious by now that PvP is not and never was a priority for anet. When they said they hope to be a AAA esport, it was false advertisement.

why is there no 1v1 fighting

in PvP

Posted by: Chris.7653

Chris.7653

The answer is pvp isn’t complete, nor a priority.

firebreathz is incorrect; the game is not intended to be balanced for 1v1. There’s no “yet” about it. They’re obviously not waiting for something which they have no intention of ever doing to implement dueling. That’s logically inconsistent with their stated intention to get around to adding dueling… eventually.

They haven’t exactly been faithful about their promises on pvp so he has at least some hope.

/end rant… /begin rationality.

The personal expectations you hold based upon the advertisement may never be achieved to your individual liking. Personally i think they did a wonderful job with the PvP system in general, they just need to find a way to promote everybody to get involved with it more (laurals for dailys perhaps?), the rewards and titles are solid, show rankings, and give nice skins based on ranks.

but it’s all subjective to your expectations.

Do you even PvP? Have you PvP’d in any other game?
You can’t even compare PvP in this game to GW1……How do you make a second game with less features than the original?
GW2 should have had everything GW1 had at the start of development and then built on top of it.

Would you say “Racing Game 2” was “developed wonderfully” when it has less tracks and less cars than “Racing Game 1”?
…seriously?

Did YOU ever play PvP in GW1? If you did, you’d know that the only thing GW2 has in common with GW1 is the music & the lore. They’re completely different games – don’t let the names fool you.

Then maybe they shouldn’t have named it Guild Wars 2 and gone with another title. You can’t expect people to take a sequel as a 100% different and new game.

I feel like the devs are listening it’s just the Pvp patch is slated for february and everybody is very quick to jump on the QQtrain.

Devs are doing a great job of ignoring Kitten QQ posts and moving slowly towards a much better game, lots of people came back this patch to pvp and this isn’t even the pvp patch, I’m really looking forward to mid feb.

That’s one of the problems I can see, every patch since Nov 15th, people have been saying pretty much the same thing.

The phrase “Oh I and excited about the next” has been delivered after each one by a lot of the community.

Maybe because there is actual content coming next patch, or they aren’t seeing the changes needed in the game in that patch so they hope for the next. here it is several patches later and people are still looking for those changes.

My question to all of you is, do you feel you as a community are being listened to?

This is not calling anyone out, nor is this a dig on any of the devs. I thought this might be good feedback since he says they are watching the forums to let them know how the community perceives their receptiveness.

So the question is, with all of the big patches that we have waited for since the Nov 15th patch. Do you personally feel the community is being listened to?

My own opinion is that it is not, but that is my opinion alone and should not affect you.

I do not know who designs the armor but why no cool swashbuckler style armor for light armor.. why is it all so ugly. I play a Female Ranger and armor is ugly no female style at all in the armor.. same with the male armor. I ultimately hate the looks of almost all the armor in GW.

I hate to say it but I agree.

The armor in GW2 is rather ugly and a lot of it doesn’t even fit the art theme of the game.

Now I am not saying GW2 sucks or it’s dying, but in contrast to WoW it does have a lot of polish to work on.

So you have every right to YOUR OPINION but a blanket statement like that couldn’t be anymore false.

Can I just step in for a second about the WvW issue?

It’s… meant to be “zergy”, guys. It’s supposed to be full-scale, almost military-like combat between competing servers. When was the last time you saw a battle/war scene in a film or described in a book where it was 1v1 or small groups against one another? I’m pretty willing to bet the answer is never.

Like, to you guys moaning about WvW… instead of rolling your faces on your keyboards and chanting “zerg zerg zerg zerg” repeatedly as though that’s a valid form of criticism (it isn’t), why don’t you take the time to explain why that’s a bad thing and how you think it could be fixed, and what your actual expectations of WvW actually were?

I’m just really sick of people saying “WvW sucks because you need zergs!”. Wow, you need to have a substantial amount of participants on the battlefield in a scenario that requires you driving back large amounts of people and capturing areas, who would have kittening thought.

I’m not saying it doesn’t need work, but the criticism is being levelled incorrectly and it’s unhelpful. Sitting in an echo chamber of “zerg!” isn’t productive in anyw ay, shape or form.

A lot of threads have gone into great detail about what they would fix, how and why. Just because this one hasn’t does not mean they don’t exist.

Map Completion:
If things are killing you in one shot, you may have set yourself up as a glass cannon, and if that is the case, well then yea, that is going to happen, push into stats that help with taking hits and that will be a problem of the past.

He said that HE one shots everything when going back to do low level hearts.

To which I say to the OP: SHENANIGANS!
With level scaling you will not be 1-shotting everything. Methinks you never actually tried this option before complaining about it.

I think the better question is…..have YOU ever tried to go back?

My wife and friends love making alts and I really don’t in this game. When I go back to lower levels with them on my 80 even though I am scaled down I am pretty much 1 shotting everything for them.

So yes, before you call someone out you should maybe try or think about the response man, because it is 100% possible.

Also did you ever think he was just using one shot as a saying instead of “Well it takes 2.3 hits” or “It’s way to easy to kill the mobs” because it is entirely possible he is referring to the ease of which you kill lower level mobs.

Just some food for thought.

Is this game bad right now?

I played this game for a while on release, but it couldn’t hold my interest. I was thinking of giving it another go, but these PvP forums are kind of scary. Is PvP worth playing right now?

When I left I was playing a necro, and just getting obliterated by warriors. Still the case?

It’s pretty bad at the moment man…I suggest waiting on patches.

it’s about the principle dude, when they give me the account they wouldn’t refund back, I’m giving it away, I just wanted to make them understand, and anyone who knows multinationals knows they speak only one language, namely money

It’s not about principle…it’s no better than you going to a resturant eating a big steak then going “yeahhh wasn’t the steak I expected” then demanding to not pay…and then running to a review site and complaining they made you pay for something you already enjoyed…

You bought the product, you know the risk of a MMO (it’s not always perfect) you rolled the dice and you didn’t like it…it really is tough cookie in this situation…

Just giving my own opinion…this game isn’t getting any better, or more fun….it’s stale, stagnant and if my friends list has any incite to the matter…dying as well.

I think you mean DEAD.

I hate to say it but you are more right than not…

Friends list is all grey with offline people…pvp guilds have gone from booming to just enough to run 1 team….

I am just really sad at the state this game has turned into…

I think it’s low class to ask for a refund on a small entertainment item you bought months ago.

I couldn’t agree more.

I am actually ashamed ANet is actually giving them.
