Hello.

You are either the worst Pvp’er in gw2 or just plain stupid =) Sorry but it’s true.. Elementalists are very good in Pvp. Behind the right hands.. clearly not yours. And to claim that thiefs are OP? Not at all. I constantly own thiefs with my mesmer. Yes i am a light armored character like your elementalist but i know how to play my character.

Some patches (like todays) NEED to get out A.S.A.P.

The fact that Unidentified dye dropped from 4s+ each to about 1s each is extremely significant.
Most of the prime-time patches have huge bug fixes that the staff works out and fixes during their work day as quickly as possible to push it out.

Warriors skill bugged hitting for 30k, Thief’s stealth render bugged….We have to wait until the 15th….but Dye’s HOLY CRAP! fixed within a few days in it’s own patch.

I find the elementalist the hardest profession, although im new to this game . How should I build my elementalist, i want a bit tanky and alot of damage. I find water attunement to be kind of useless. Earth to be surprisingly powerful. Any suggestions?

Tanky = Take a hit with no damage being dealt

Damage = You Can’t take a hit but deal a lot of damage.

If anyone or even Anet tells me again that “tPvP is just a small portion of the game” I think I’m going to implode. All I have to say at this state of fury is that if you don’t have lemons to sell you don’t advertise you have lemons then tell me I don’t need lemons right away because they aren’t that important.

Yeah, let me be clear….sPvP and tPvP are a smaller portion than the PvE side but no less important in my mind.

There are a decent amount of people (Ones I have talked to) enjoying PvE that were sold on this game because of the pvp promises.

I think it has to do with more than just Sandy…the slow approach to bug fixes, balance issues, new game mode, premades beating on pugs etc has really put a hurt on the hardcore pvpers and made a lot of them leave.

Especially here on darkhaven, also a lot of them have been xfering due to the diminished population on DH.

TBH, Anet has done a pretty good job so far, I mean the game has not been out very long and IMHO tPvP and sPvP is more end game material. It took rift like 9 months to correct most of their pvp issues and they still have allot to work on. I have been pvping everyday since launch and have cut back due to not being able to enjoy the actual game. Eventually they will fix 90% of the bugs but since its such a new game they can’t just quick fix stuff. For example the Theif cloaking bugs. its not an easy fix, will probably takes months and allot of hours to fix it. Yes, the bugs suck, yes they need to fix them, but the s/tPvP is a very tiny portion of the game so sit back and relax

Oh trust me I know sPvP is a small portion. I have a lot of alts myself and enjoy the rest of the game, but the sPvP is the part that will be a eSport for GW2 and I see that crowd diminishing.

These bugs also effect WvW like the mentioned stealth bug.

Glory is nothing too. Unless you like playing dress ups. 5v5 is just more fun. That’s what I get from it anyway.

Don’t be like that…don’t belittle peoples enjoyment of making their character looking cool or the hard work ANet put into the entire system by calling it “dress up”

Hey all,

Honestly one of my fears for sPvP and tPvP is that due to ANet’s slow moving approach to fixing some issues really bugging the player base, like Bugs, Not being balance, Premades Stomping Pugs, No Ranking system etc, that people are giving up on sPvP.

Now I know the people replying will most likely say “OMG YOU ARE CRAZY THERE IS SO MANY PEOPLE YOU NEED TO GET YOUR EYES CHECKED”

Well my experience is that me on my server and several friends dotted across different servers are noticing the the mist is certainly emptying out.

I notice I am running into the same people over and over which makes the pool is getting smaller.

I don’t know, what do you guys think?

Honestly, I am just surprised ANet hasn’t addressed some of the issues on this forum alone faster than they have.

My question is this (Please keep in mind I am broke and have yet to find a way to make money in this game)

What gear should I be using and how do I obtain it?

I went your spec with my Priory set and didn’t see the same stats you had going for you, then I went to use the same sigils and they are 4g a piece, which in turn made me curl up in a ball and cry myself to sleep.

ANet wasn’t very creative with the skills.

Signet of Healing:
Elementalists need to hit stuff for the regeneration,
Ranges get it as a utility spell
Warriors have to do nothing and still heal more.

Same for the comparison of daggerstorm and tornado. Basically the same skill, but one gives great protection and the other one 20%? more HP and a huge “KILL ME NOW”-Sign.

Not to mention it can be slowed (making it useless) bled, and poisoned.

You keep talking about how you spammed illusions from behind a rock and “totally pawned noobs and stuff”. But Phantasms are not CLONES!…clones look like the player and deal no damage… good luck standing behind a rock and sending CLONES at your opponent in the hopes of winning a fight.

This thread is not about how the severely nerfed phantasms are OP, or mesmers are OP this thread is about how hard it is to tell CLONES from the mesmer. I already made a list for how to tell clones from the player and other useful and polite people added to that list.

If you feel a need to bash on the mesmer class for any other reasons then people not being able to tell robotic clones from the player please open your own thread or find the existing one if any related to your topic.

Finally someone with some sense.

I also appreciate all of the people like this who are actually trying to help instead of derailing the topic.

Remember that Elementalists are not Thieves. This is important.

Hey Kasama, thanks for posting

I did roll a mesmer and played it….I was shocked that within the first round I was top on kills/score without knowing the class at all and it only got better from there to the point is was just super boring and to be honest, I felt dirty playing a class so unbalanced.

My main problem is that their clones look exactly like them, when you finally do target the real one and mark them, they pop decoy, or mirror image etc and the mark is dropped and you have to look for the original again.

That might not sound so bad, but when the clones are hitting you for most of your life it quickly becomes a problem. If the Mesmer is shatter spec as I mentioned ealier I was hit for 16k (Totaled between their clones, all of the damage happened at the same exact time).

These clones simply hit to hard, and provide to much coverage/support for the mesmer.

Ya, it was a visual culling bug. It will be fixed next patch.

The secret is to abuse it together with the rendering problems so they can’t see you. Also yesterday I spotted a mesmer portal at a keep lord ahead of time and once they all used the portal hilarity ensued, solidifying my love for this spell. At least it’s better than the other so called “elite” spells elementalists have.

Agreed….our elite spells aren’t very elite…

I just noticed today I can be crippled in mist form too…this is just bad.

I don’t know why tornado doesn’t just reflect projectiles like thief’s dagger storm. It would increase the ele’s defense a great deal without making them specifically immune to damage or conditions whilst using it.

What a good suggestion, I am totally in favor of this. Also it needs to make you immune to being slowed.

It does. You get 16s of stability with it. Agree though that it should either reflect or negate any ranged attacks which enter its area, including siege.

It doesn’t make you immune to being slowed bud, whenever i use it one of the first things they throw on me is a slow or a root and then I am pretty much the largest sitting duck on the field.

Elementalist was by far the easiest class for me to level and my only 80. I never noticed before but my killing speed seemed to be much faster then other classes. After hitting 80 I have been trying to level my other classes and have noticed even my level 60 support/tank guardian hits almost twice as hard.

I have notice my ele damage going down after some patches…ANet is known for stealth nerfs, maybe they “tweaked” our damage.

Answer me this Tornado defenders:

How effective is stability, when you can’t finish enemies, heal downed teammates, or use any utilities or skills except for a random, relatively lowball damage proc once per second and a half?

The answer is: moot. Who cares if you can move freely with stability for 16 seconds when you are really just a ‘KICK ME’ sign you posted on yourself for all to see.

The knockback is sporadic, not reliable. Most good players just pop their own stability and wail on the helpless slow moving idgit that popped tornado.

So please, do enjoy using tornado in all it’s glory. And I’ll continue to pop earth armor and destroy you in the 6 seconds I have of my own stability. :rolleyes:

Would be nice if mist form gave immunity to current conditions/cc for 3 seconds, but not expecting it.

Tornado on the other hand, it FLAT OUT needs to be BUFFED.

You can end Tornado form early and keep the stability boon. It’s still vastly inferior to a ranger’s Rampage as One elite for that use however.

Not to mention the graphic not showing up a lot….it would be cool if the tornado was more like a spirit weapon maybe but I guess then it would just be summon elemental…

Honestly I loved the idea of different tornados based on your attunement.

At the absolute very least you need to not be SLOWED, poisoned or bled while you are a tornado.

If stelath were exactly the same as it is now accpet instead of invisable we were immune I think that would be a huge buff. Loose positioning for total immunity.

You can’t change the stealth mechanic without re-writing the profession. It’s where we get most of our boons and is designed to give us the ability to get great positioning.

If anything could be nerfed for thieves besides the burst (which may be toned down for everyone) it would be shortbow#5 in that it currently ignores root/stun. Remove that aspect from shortbow#5 and I think all is good.

I see where the confusion was, I didn’t mean the immunity part of mist form. I meant the part that takes your skill bar away.

So effectively while they are stealthed they can’t attack, this makes it more a defensive move than an offensive one.

It’s a bit of a shame that your attunement doesn’t effect the Tornado like a bunch of the other skills do. I suppose if you look at it one way, the abilities there are 2 earth (sand & boulders) and 1 air. I suppose if you squint and don’t think about it too much you could consider the sand fire, in which case, just adding a water/healing ability would help as well. If you’re in the middle of a big fight loading it up and sending down some Healing Rain would be a great help.

You are really on to something with tornado man….Having it based off attunment would rock.

Tornado isn’t as bad as you think it is. 16 seconds of stability is nice.

I use tornado in sPvP since the knockback is vital in team fights since the CC can hit multiple targets at once.

Normally when I use tornado, I don’t cancel the ability right away. It takes approximately 3-4seconds for the first KD proc to hit, so I usually cast it around the corner then I CC all the enemies chasing me as they come around the corner.

Depending on the situation, I would cancel it after proc 1 if I’m the only person around the area, as I tend to challenge myself with 2v1, 3v1, 4v1, and 5v1 battles all the time in sPvP.

In team fight situations, if an enemy is fighting on a ledge that I can’t reach, I pop tornado and knock him off to lower ground then cancel the form followed by killing him. I might leave myself on tornado form longer if i feel as if the extra CC over my DPS is necessary for the battle.

If I’m capping a point and one enemy is going to disrupt my cap, I would prevent said enemy from reaching the capture zone. I would updraft him, magnetic grasp him, shocking aura, earthquake to stall him as much as possible so that he never enters the capture ring. Right after utilizing these skills, I would pop tornado for further CC to push the enemy off the point and then cancel form when I’m done with capping. I would then follow that up by holding cap / killing enemy.

When talking about 2v1, 3v1, 4v1 situations, the stability really comes in handy. Getting cc’d against outnumbered odds usually gets you killed fairly quickly.

Also dont forget to combine the tornado form with other buffs, such as shocking aura, protection from earth attunement, regeneration from water attunement, swiftness, arcane shield, terrain advantage, etc.

TL;DR Tornado form is great for an instant first KD proc if you time it correctly and the 16 seconds of stability is nice. Also knocking people off cliffs to their deaths / bringing enemies on higher ground down to your level when they dont expect it is pretty fun also.

Yeah, I agree that aspect can be great, but my main thing for making this topic is that if we are being turned into Air or Water Vapor we shouldn’t be bleeding, slowed, or anything else.

Heck even the ability to slow a tornado negates the skill other than the stability.

When I Warrior in sPvP (which is rarely), it can easily get out of hand if I ever have to fight a mesmer 1v1. Even with the aforementioned tricks and my standard healing shouts build getting rid of the billions of CCs, the constant teleporting and the damage done by the phantasms (and subsequent need to kill them) make the mesmer way more tanky than I can ever hope to be, and far more powerful to boot. I mainly just wish they’d tone down the recharge on a couple of the skills for just a second or two. Even knowing which one is which (which is easy just watching how they move or how often they attack), it’s a huge pain in the kitten to get to them. But then, I’m a warrior in this case, which has notoriously huge problems staying in range of targets without immensely specialized builds. Well… BUILD. Singular. We have one.

Not to mention when you do FINALLY get to them, they weapon swap (Yeah no idea why they have one and Ele doesn’t) to the sword main hand and hit number 2 and are invulnerable fore a few seconds WHILE doing 3k damage if you are within range and their clones hit you.

Chris don’t get upset by the agro people on the forum, I know you are just asking how to handle mesmer. Just ignore people when they say things to bait you or insult you (more easily said than done, I know!).

There is no doubt they are tough. Apart from being able to pick out the actual mesmer you often need a specific build to beat them, realistically speaking. Stablity and aoe and aoe cc work wonders, but you need spammable aoe; or if you can burst them down that is good but for that u usually need to catch them by surprise.

Even a noob mesmer is a tough fight, but they can be beaten (at least the noob mesmers can)!

By the time I could kittenget them a third time they had already DPS’d me down and shattered on me to the point I really had no chance to win.

I feel for you man, same thing happens to me many times every day, well every day I play spvp which is most days, haha. I get cheesed off when there are about three mesmers on a team, it just gets so confusing!

Oh man you are right….I remember seeing an entire point FILLED with people and thinking “Oh my gosh how do they have so many?!” then I looked at the other team…5 Mesmers….I just shook my head and left with the rest of my team.

Not to rant, but one of the things that makes me the most upset….is that the devs and whoever is in charge of PvP actually looked at the state of the game, looked at the bugs, looked at the damage, bunkers etc….and went “Yep good for launch”

Here we are months later and still the same thing “Yeah it’s good to go!” I understand they are tweaking still, but they need to hurry up because there is no way this level of balance (or lack there of) and bugs etc is passable…

The class balance int his game is beyond horrid. Class bugs also dominate the playing field and the fact that some classes do 20k damage in 2 maybe 3 buttons max, while others struggle to hit 12k with 10 buttons is just stupid.

The thing that really ticks me off is the fact that the devs think for one second that this game can be in e-sport…a LOT of things would have to change because I am sorry but this is just bad, very very very bad.

I love this game and I love ANet, but for a company that put so much emphasis on pvp during development fell less than short in delivery.

Lack of ranking system for tourny’s (free, meaning pro teams farm people trying to get the hang of it) class balance, class bugs, no real rewards, the fact you can’t take the gear you earn into PvE (and visa versa) it just all adds up.

People say “oh thats just a small thing” but there are a LOT of small things that add up to a decent amount of big things.

you just pulled 16k out of your kitten. Also the only way for the mark to fall off is stealth and the only stealth ability that the common shatter mesmer has is a 30s cd stun break utility

I pulled 16k from my combat log, the mark falls off from more than just stealth.

Before posting know the facts or you just wind up looking dumb.

Before engaging a Mesmer, mark him

Yes he can stealth out of it, but

Look for shields over one of them
Look for dodge rolls and other evasive movement
The real one attacks faster than his/ her clones.

KEEP MARK UP

Every 2 seconds your target and mark drops off of them, it’s such bull crap man…

I see one dodge target it poof gone with a clone in it’s place with decoy…

The problem PinCushion is that, the animation doesn’t always play leaving your guy just invisible guesing where he can hit the enemies and the fact that it’s not meant to run away but when your elite is cut short because people see you and stack bleeds and drop you is a bit dumb.

You are air, you should be able to be slowed (which effects your ability to touch people and knock them around), bled or poisoned.

kill stealing the bosses in sPvP is lame and should be changed.
