Yeah scanning through all those patch notes is pretty annoying. I was just wondering if there’d been any major changes etc.
Hi there,
I haven’t really played GW2 in almost a year and I was wondering if anyone could give me a brief catchup on what’s been going on?
I remember WvW was being reworked and that’s out as far as I know – What are the key changes?
Also, my classes were mostly Rev/Mes/Thief/Necro – anything special happen to them?
I also saw some posts where people talked about new weapons – Is there any link to an overview of that?
Thanks!
Man you’re preaching doom and gloom, but I doubt you’ve actually played condi rev. It’s hilarious and such a fun counter to thieves for example.
If melees wanna fight you, they gotta stand in the fire. It’s so funny watching them try to decide what to do against every instinct
I think the current meta is fine compared to HoT in general (although I’ve been maining Rev which I’ve retired out of frustration now), but HoT kinda blew the game apart so that’s not saying much.
The reason I think that is that the elite speccs are a requirement, not a choice. Hence build diversity went out the window and you pretty much know exactly what you’re gonna be up against just by looking at classes.
6. Bad Sportsmen
I can learn through the rest, and if I think it’s OP I can just play it or learn to counter it by getting better at the game. PvP is ruined by bad people in the community in my opinion.
So there is no such thing as a legitimate complaint in your world, only “bad sportsmen”?
You know, if everyone acted like this no game would be improved ever. Games evolve based on player feedback and requests, feedback the developers ask us for.
Rather than blindly attacking anyone who criticizes something, maybe you should stop to consider criticism actually leads to improvements…?
Main difference as the post above says, traitlines with points for various attributes as well as elite speccs. I honestly don’t see the elite speccs as being helpful to the game at all. They’re pretty much mandatory and as a result you know exactly what you’re gonna face. Build diversity went down the drain and what we’re left with is more akin to checkers than chess. If checkers was poorly balanced.
Equally I could say a mesmer who is entirely dependent on CS to succeed is a bad mesmer.
How do you think we managed before CS existed?
I also would not care if both moa and portal were replaced/deleted. I would adapt.
I remember exactly how we managed before CS. Back then there were no other elite specs either Things change ya’know
Arguably I’d say the game was more fun back then. Elite specs really took the diversity out of the game and if you play against half-decent people you know exactly what they’ll be doing. Not to say some speccs weren’t better even then, of course they were. But the old system allowed for a lot more mixmatch with how the trees worked, adding condi, precision, power etc depending on number of points. Ah well…
I played a couple of ranked games and many unranked games since the update. Revs are extinct and rightfully so. Unless you are playing with an organized team Rev is obsolete. Rev used to bring easy boon buffs, rez stomp and burst damage. Damage is gone and the in solo que boon and rez stomp are not very useful.
Now Revs are:
- Weak solo.
- Highly susceptible to conditions.
- Lacks damage (burst or sustained).
- Highly susceptible to CC.
- Lacks diversity. So Rev is now a support class?! It will still be used for that specific reason in team ranked or tournaments, but it is highly unbalanced and should not be played solo in its current iteration.
If Ventari was playable we could be support I guess.
I personally would not give a kitten if CS was replaced.
But of course people will find something else to moan about.
A mesmer who doesn’t care about CS is a bad mesmer
Mesmer is the best in PvE? Lol how? It has the worst dmg of all the classes haha. All the slippery nonsense is far less useful there.
Now as for PvP, aye it’s really good. And fun to play. For me it’s fun because I know how incredibly frustrating it is for people to fight me 10 secs of invul tends to get the blood pumping for most
It’s a great system for 5man groups Not so much for teams of 5 random people, but oh well
This season is a bust, just wait for S6 and hope it’ll be better I guess.
So burning 4 utility slots is comparable to a single weapon skill? And assuming you waltzed in knowing what would happen? Ouch.
When it oneshots people trying to decap a node I’d say… Yes! lol
Wait, you’re saying a rating system based on the performance of 4 completely random people that may actually be asleep is bad? No way…
This thread is sure to step on some delicate sensibilities.
Can you SS a trap hitting you for 15k. Nope?
All of em together if you don’t have any kind of stunbreak? Yes I can.
I haven’t tried condi Rev too much (I mostly play power), but I always question using the Sword MH in the second weapon set, especially when using pure condi amulets (e.g. Deadshot, Carrion, or Wanderer’s). Would it be better in these situations to use Mace/Axe and Mace/Shield, for example? That way you can still do damage while you weapon swap, though you do lose out on the evade in Sword 3. With Viper, Sword may be a bit better due to the Power / Precision.
That’s exactly what I was thinking so I’m Mace/Axe and Mace/Shield. Works out reasonably well, although it does highlight the silliness of only one condi wep. Skills somewhat spammable but the utility of a second wep sorely missed.
Anyway, it works ok, you can go shield for panic mode as needed though the heal is absolutely pathetic.
My observations:
- There are considerably less (rarity actually) Revenants than any other season
- Condi rev is still a rare sight, I may have seen 1 during my climb
- Viper is hard to play correctly and requires lots of practice with the build, beginners better use Carrion/Wanderer
- Condi rev still has a surprise factor advantage due to it’s rarity
- The recent buff to pain absorption (stun break) is a game changer
- Play it right against the up and coming burn guard and you can insta pop them (that means let them burn burst you and transfer it back to them with pulsating pestilence while giving yourself resist)
- Try to be in team fights as much as you can, although you can beat anyone 1v1 with this build, this isn’t your role
- There is however a big downside to condi rev and that is that a good thief will just shut you down completely, a good thief can stick to you 24/7 and +1 anything you do, hence try to be in team fights, think of yourself like necro, the anti-bunker condi cleave machine
- Power rev is still viable and deadly in the right hands, it just requires a much higher skill cap, Toker has 4 accounts in the top 25 NA playing power rev, the only problem is what happens if you’re not Toker
What I find about thieves is that if you stand in the fire patch from #2 you kinda neutralize them. Bad ones will go inside it, decent ones will back off, good ones will find a way to hit you though but you still aren’t powerless against them. It’s just positioning.
In teamfights you can get shafted fast I find, I usually play it as a buffer/support for teamfights and then use the swiftness and 1v1 strength to keep close and far.
I agree that the number of revs is definitely a lot lower now, while the DH and warrior numbers are through the roof. It’s your run of the mill FotM people, since power rev isn’t braindead spam anymore that was to be expected though.
What wep sets are you using btw? I go mace obviously, but instead of shield or sword I use axe for offhand for the interrupt you get from the #5 pull, plus the blink which makes up for not having Shiro imo.
2nd set I rarely go into since we only have one condi wep and I need to keep up the pressure. It’s good for a last resort/hail mary survival to have sword/shield but you do leave ample time for enemy recovery doing that since you won’t be outputting much dmg.
Hmm, I guess they feel that if you can’t win more matches than you lose, you don’t belong at that level, or something.
People keep saying this. Like it would be impossible for anyone to actually get unlucky and get screwed by the system.
Hello,
Im happy with the ‘nerf’. I like to play hybrd shiro/mallyx and the new stunbreak added to Mallyx helps a lot. My main damage sources are autoattack and banish enchantment. I use sword 2 to stop kitters and sw3 to evade. Better success and fun from the last patch, at least for my play style.Regards,
RurikPlaying shiro and mallyx is just gimping yourself and your team.
Not if he’s condi.
Especially if he’s condi. No team buffs, another bad heal, no flame on point, no megastun. For a teleport (Axe#4) and quickness (unnecessary).
Oh, I am not defending the OP. He seems to have…let’s say..exagerated his losses.
So not much sympathy for him there. But that’s no excuse for an ANET Dev to reply in that condescending tone.
I repeat: if we could analyse Evan’s decisions and coding as thoroughly as he did and if we used the same tone as he did….it wouldn’t be a pretty post, would it?I mean, it’s not like PvP is very good and balanced at the moment so maybe Evan should show a little me more…restraint.
+1
I think they really need a system for rewarding individuals, not putting rating in a ranked system at the mercy of 4 randoms that may or may not be drunken hipster monkeys hanging from the ceiling with a macbook air and dorky glasses.
Current system is bad and this is as good a suggestion as any.
It’s pretty silly. Win 2, lose 1 – back where you started.
Especially in bronze where teammates are a diceroll between capable and moronic it’s pretty demotivating.
I don’t main rev anymore. I have a condition build I like to just play around with now and then to get some variation which is actually really good for point def and vs melee. Mallyx/Glint though, thought about Shiro instead of Glint but it’s just gimping yourself and your team imo.
And it’s going ok. You can’t deal with ranged too well even with the weapon blink but it’s a really fun build to play.
Hmm well… a skillshot attack that takes careful aiming and situational awareness gets nerfed, meanwhile a DH trap can do 15k+ without having to aim it at all.
Go figure. I’ve long since given up on trying to understand their logic.
You really don’t wanna go rev only is my view. Gotta have at least 3 classes to swap between.

Playing shiro and mallyx is just gimping yourself and your team.
Losing rating even though I myself played well. If other people wanna get slaughtered 1v3 instead of playing smart how is that my fault? I can’t force them to listen… why am I being punished for it?
I think the amount of times you die in a match determines skill somewhat. I also think the amount of healing/dps/boons you have in a match determines how much you contributed to the team somewhat as well. Those should be bigger factors for points awarded in a match.
So much for saccing yourself to save a cap right?
But I don’t think the system is this complex, it’s just avg rating and win/loss + multiplier.
Tough luck, they don’t make changes once the season starts. All we can do is hope S6 is better and that 3 months down the line we get to have fun as well. Though I doubt it.
I suppose it’s because this system is poorly made by inspirations from WoWs arena system. Although those are all premade teams with visible rating of course. They just decided this would be perfect for solo and duo qs in random teams because smrt.
And so, as per the wow system you lose more than you gain if the enemy teams is higher lower than you. I suppose here that’s some average hidden stuff. No matter. It’s pretty weird. Of course the enemy team doesn’t gain as much as you lose, because xtra-smrt.
I say the same thing, you can’t carry teams to streaks. At mid bronze its just 50/50 if you get a good team or not. And since you always lose more than you gain you can’t really climb unless you roll good on luck.
And the players… wow. They’d rather stand there autoattacking a downed enemy than ress a teammate. Teammate bleeds put, downed enemy resses, kills your teammate, gg. So a cap becomes a -10 point kill loss and a neg cap. It’s amazing.
This is fun. Best part is knowing that it’ll stay like this at least until the season ends. Because of reasons.
Since DH spams are in almost every game, condi rev really shines. I love it when 2 of them drop their traps and I just run right in with my heal 1v1 they are cake really, they can’t go head to head and their bow dmg is crap when they don’t have traps to back them up.
Considering how good they are they are underrepresented if anything.
No you can’t and no it’s not. Until you’re there and have tried it, don’t make these posts kids
Class balance is irrelevant below top tier. Stop whining about that and focus on player intelligence.
This is an incredibly ignorant comment…. On second thought I think you’re trying to prove your second point here.
No, if they cared about class balance then DH wouldn’t be able to oneshot you. Think that proves my point exactly, perfectly and irrevocably.
I honestly feel like DH are much easier to deal with since their traps don’t daze anymore. Before the last patch, I took felt like DH’s traps were way too strong and hard to counter on a tiiny point, but now i feel like it’s more manageable. And relatively fair to deal with.
Really? With 3 of them on the enemy team,1 pull and you can’t do anything. Not only that, but I play a necro so I don’t have access to invuls or blocks. How is that easy to deal with?
I realize that you are of course a superpro way better than any of us, but tell me. I have 2 dodges. I can dodge 2 pulls. Or I can dodge once I’m inside the traps. But when there’s 3… how do I survive that?
I know he’s a bit much some times, and not as good of a player as people think he is (I’m no fan of his), but come on, is there really a reason to post something that attacks a player?
When people talk about a toxic community I think they mean in-game chat, afk’ing, stuff like that, but this takes it to another level.
The fact that you went out of your way to edit his video and post this is kinda sad tbh, something I would expect from a 14 year old
Nah this is quite common in PvP communities. I’ve had people show up at my teammates’ towns to beat them up etc, PvPers act like kids sometimes, just how it goes.
Thread will be deleted for naming and shaming of course.
Depends on lots of things. Since there are so many DH and Necro in games now I do close/far capping and only join teamfights on maps like foefire where it’s right inbetween or on occasions where it is reasonable to do so without losing the point. This is because necros for example shine in teamfights and it would be wasted to have them do close/far, especially since their 1v1 isn’t great.
The benefit is that you are strong at 1v1 plus really annoying to kill so you can hold points for a long time even when outnumbered.

I demand to see these people that allegedly enjoy Skyhammer. Preferably in a dark and discrete location.
I’ll make a build for you, np.
1. Use our only condi wep.
2. Use the condi legend.
3. Use the condi traits.
4.
5. Profit.
I know it’s difficult because of our extremely diverse weapon and utility choices for condition damage.
I agree. Rewarding people is bad. Instead you should be punished. Physically.
If you only have fun when you’re on the winning side, then yes you are a poor sport. If you feel there is no fun to be had in a match because you’re on the losing side, then yes you are a poor sport. Win or lose, someone who has a healthy sense of competition will enjoy a match. Someone who did not develop a healthy sense of competition, usually as a child, will be a sore loser. A sore loser is someone that expresses their frustration of not being on the winning team in a nasty way. It’s all in the manner in which you express yourself after you win and after you lose. And most of the time, in a lot of the matches I’m in, poor sportsmanship is expressed in a very nasty way. It’s obvious. Everyone here has seen it. It makes perfect sense.
Not at all. I never said that. Losing a good game can still be fun, but (and I am repeating what I said that you conveniently ignored) losing because someone gets angry and throws a fit and goes afk is not fun. Do you understand the difference or will you require more examples?
And you keep talking about being a “poor sport” although I’ve already explained to you that being frustrated because of losses you can’t prevent and “being a poor sport” are different. One does not follow the other. Are there more things I have to say again or do you get the point now? If not, let me know the aproximate number of times I need to repeat myself and I’ll spam them all in my next reply so we can move on in the discussion.
It’s not a system for individual players, it’s for 5 man teams. It’s just being applied to individual players because the new coffee machine arrived so they needed to toss something in there fast.
Anet did a soft mmr reset, as was suggested they do from complaints gathered from prevoius seasons. Next season when they don’t do a mmr reset, people will undoubtedly blame this lack of reset as the reason they are having bad matches.
It just never ends.
It would end instantly if we could get a rating system that works for individuals instead of one designed for premades. Losing rating because some guy lost a 1v1 and went afk raging… is that my fault somehow? Why am I being punished for that?
