Thank you my dear, I also suggest always including a third player as a refereee on every PvP battle, and this person would then overrule the rock/paper/scissors/lizard/spock winner and decide the fairest outcome of every battle based on a completely objective evaluation of individual skill through viewing the players chat and browser history.

I basically run the exact same as in PvP with my power build gs/sw+p. But you can easily run conditions or whatever you want – our PvE damage is so pathetic neither direction will make much difference.

The focus is a pretty good sub for pistol as you can gather mobs up for aoe from gs and phantas.

Since everyone’s discussing Condition abuse, how do you guys find Mallyx in ranked play at the moment?
I know you can’t constantly keep Resistance going so easily, but surely it helps some against the plague of condition damage floating about?
Of course, there’s still a nasty weakness to CC, but I feel like you can sorta make up for it with boonstripping against bunkers (Eles/Scrappers in particular, who contest points and almost never die otherwise)…

Well as you said you can’t keep resistance up all the time if you want to want to actually deal damage as well, but it does help for sure and people seem put off when their dots aren’t doing anything. Your second wep set is purely for survival since we have no real options there.

One particularly fun use of condi rev I find is how good it is at stopping ress or gaining double and triple kills on ressers because of mace #2 and the insane damage from burning, and it has a reasonable uptime in those situations. It’s a bit difficult to land in confusing teamfights but it does work to a certain extent. Against power builds it is extremely strong as you might imagine.

That being said, I know metabattle suggests Shiro as 2nd legend but I strongly advise against that for solo queue, dots will own you without access to glint heal in lieu of someone cleansing you. The boons are also highly useful and you can easily see the tide of battle turning as you pop off might and fury. The burn is also handy as a point/stomp protection.

Before I stopped if win loads of games be 1 pip off of my next rank then lose 2 games again.. Then win 2 then lose 2 win 2 lose 2 it’s driven me up the wall haha (but I’m not mad before anyone accuses me of raging, think of me as a babbling mad man in a lab or something)

If I’m one pip away from a division rank up I swap to my Mesmer. Just not worth the roll of the dice for teams and then the unavoidable relog you’ll most likely have to do anyway. It matters very little what opposition the Mes gets compared to how absolutely vital it is for a Rev.

The problem isn’t exactly that it’s impossible to cleanse, the issue is putting yourself at a severe disadvantage by doing it, sacrificing more than any class in order to do it at all and still having it be completely unreliable as it’s one stack only and at any time you are likely to have at least two damaging conditions and at least one detrimental condition, so you may well end up swapping weps and legend to get rid of a cripple and 1 stack of vulnerability while keeping 10 stacks of torment and 15 bleed. Not only that but conditions are reapplied way faster than you can ever hope to cleanse.

TL;DR: In a teamfight that build will still melt like a pile of icecream on Scarlett Johanssons kitten.

Reaper is probably the easiest one to pick up and play. If you know how to autoattack, dodge and press F1 you’ll beat half the classes in the game.

Too similiar to hammer and to be honest I’d want Greatsword to be a heavy melee wep in the same role as hammer is for ranged. I am all for a ranged weapon for our class but it would have to be condi focused as we lack any kind of ranged condi atm.

Chiming in on Chrono: Basically an aoe heavy class like a DH trapper or certain specs of ele and cleave melee are decent, but the problem is that a Chrono with full CDs can and should win any 1v1 because of the possibility for double Moa.

People don’t want to be stuck, after playing 4-5 + hours/day in the same tier for days. Nobody is even thinking of legendary. I don’t think i’ve met any game that does that level of time wasting literally for 0 reward. And you think people won’t get frustrated and quit? HA

Condition Revenant can’t be viable in PvE because of the flaws in class design. As the OP mentioned we are Torment based – That’s not very suitable for PvE.

In addition since they weren’t planning on the class having weapon swap we don’t have any alternative condition weapons and certainly no ranged condition option.

All of this just further highlights the inherent problems of the class due to faulty design.

I started in Amber as I’ve never played a PvP season before, having just come back to the game. I’ve lost well over half my games but I’m now in Sapphire. Not quite sure what to think of it to be honest, it’s all about stringing wins together really. Not 100% sure how the pip system really works either, you seem to get multiple pips for wins sometimes?

Anyway, since there are only 5 players on each team, individual performance matters a lot and one person can definitely be the turning tide in a game. It all comes down to making sure you have roles covered and you can help a lot with that. If people sit on point doing nothing – Be the roamer even if your class isn’t ideal for it. If you always own mid but you keep constantly losing your close base – be the close defender and rotate back to mid inbetween (I just run into the teamfights at mid, drop my aoe and heals and buffs and rotate back). That’s enough to win a game really, just one person doing the boring stuff.

You do understand PvP means Player versus Player right? And that you actually have to be better than other PLAYERS to get top ranked?

I’m sorry but I simply cannot empathize with your position here. I’ve been playing Revenant in sPvP recently and I’ve struggling at lot with necros, so much so I decided to test one out myself. Needless to say, the result was just absolutely hilarious (15 stacks of bleed and 5 poison from scepter AA only…?).

You’re arguing to give the class more, more and more. I say fine. Cut the damage and condi application in half, reduce the maximum amount of life force, remove condi transfer signet and you can have your mobility. Seem fair? Of course not, having mobility with this insane condi application should be a given right? Anyway, the toxic and dilluted point that I am trying to make is that the insane condi application comes at a price. A price you should be happy to pay. Bear in mind necros are in no way roamers, you point guardians and assaulters, basically the core of rotation.

Now if they were to reduce the condi damage, buff the direct damage, give you mobility – what would you end up with? The loss of a unique class. If you don’t enjoy the playstyle of the Necro and want it to be more like ele or mesmer, then why not just play ele or mesmer?

Btw, you do have a signet which increases your speed by 25%.

The logic in the OP is… backwards? I don’t know how else to describe it. If you tank your MMR you don’t get better players on your team – you get put in matches with worse players on both sides.

Uff… Metabattle is the source of so much toxicity. When people in lower divs start yelling about metas I almost facepalm myself to death. It’s relevant, sure, IF you’re playing at a level where meta actually matters and things like team composition and enemy composition factor in to that. For casuals in solo queue it means nothing.

Hint: Overpowered builds have nothing to do with meta, they’re just overpowered builds. FotM as we call it. And boy is the game full of those who feel that their easy to play builds give them the right to pass judgement upon everyone that is playing well with “non-meta” builds.

This game no longer relies on skill it’s all build. Skill went out the door years ago now everyone is just a tank or condi cheese and the fights go long enough to the point where it gets boring.

The sigils are better then nothing. They work on legend swap or wep swap obviously what ever you do first but it is still better then nothing. I would rather have something and mind you it is quite decent then having nothing at all.
Using these and also trying to avoid getting condis in the first place does work well and rev also has a couple of interrupts. You need to actually work to make this all work try your hardest to evade interrupt and just avoid condis. I do fine against 1 person and against a group it is managable but requires a lot of work and timing / knowing when to bail to heal. The satisfaction of beating cheese with skill is real too.

Well I just had to try this out myself. I’ve never played Necromancer in PvP before, I had one at lvl 20 as a tailoring alt from 2013. Sure enough, first game was vs two revenants. And they jump and they skip and they teleport all around and pop their heals and then they fall over. Autoattack. What a joke.

Edit: One of them was quite good I’d say, pillarhumping and pressuring and legend swapping, had the sigils as well. But RNGesus did not favour her cleanses. It’s pretty amazing the difference in skill required to do well vs each other in this matchup. Kind of extreme.

Yeah I suppose that’s always an option but I really prefer not to… That’s why I’ve been running power mesmer as well, I just don’t enjoy the playstyle of condi and I think I’ve reached an age where enjoyment doesn’t come from going fotm and stomping people through the strength of a build rather than your own skill – and I always felt GW2 relied heavily on personal skill, but in this case the game simply isn’t giving many viable options to deal with a very, very large portion of the playerbase. Essentially leaving us as fodder or with an over-reliance on support to even manage a 2v1.

As for the cleanse sigils and runes, fair enough if you spam that with legend swap but that’s no real guarantee you’ll actually cleanse some of the heavy hitters, considering basically everything inflicts some kind of condition. Not to mention they are almost instantly reapplied anyway since necro for example can stack 3-4x poison and maintain 12 stacks of bleed by simply autoattacking with the scepter.

Edit: Scratch that, tested with expertise amulet now, 16 stacks of bleed and 5 stacks of poison with auto only (15 maintanable in normal conditions) – ticking for 1900.

In my opinion the biggest problem for core vs chrono is continuum split. They can essentially doubleshatter or double moa, double stun, double kb, double phanta summon – huge disadvantage and if used correctly it shouldn’t be possible for the chrono to lose vs a core mesmer.

Yeah I covered some of these in the OP, especially the hit and run tactic is difficult when people deliberately single you out, the running is where you run into problems since they have ranged. Even when using the Shiro evade or pillarhumping where possible people quite easily dot you up before and after – I find that when you try to dip in and out you lose most of your hp inbetween so might as well be glued to a target and deliver what little damage you can before you go down.

And yeah Glint heal is fine for 2 secs, condis still there when it ends and when you get burning ticking for 3-4k and bleeding for 2k+ and then torment and poison on top of that in extreme cases you’ll live for maybe 2-3 secs after it ends…

Like I said while running in teamfights is something you should do if you have no choice, getting close to your support to make their work easier is also an option.
That is assuming you have a druid/tempest in your team (a tempest is preferred ) if you don’t you shouldn’t be playing rev.

Hmmz… Kinda sad that it’s gotten to the point where it’s just pointless to play it without certain classes to back you up. And I was strictly talking about lower division solo q stuff really, obviously this will all work alot differently in a proper team. Had a few games again today where it ended up being vs mostly condi on the opposite side, pretty frustrating how absolutely useless it makes you feel.

Herald doesn’t boonshare like mesmer can. Mesmer takes the boons that herald and ele provide and doubles/quadruples them.

You mean after a random guardian pops a buff to max the stacks anyway? Unless there’s like 3-4 people in the group and all of them thieves I just can’t see this being useful, especially not in a larger group where just inherent class powers will max out buffs without even trying.

Why shield? You already have blink, decoy, distortion, Moa, continuum split, illusionary riposte and blurred frenzy. Why not pistol for interrupt and more damage? Outside of shattersplash and BF you’re also exclusively singletarget.

Other than that, looks like a fun build. Have to try this out as well, but swapping out my GS feels… weird. Simply because of the knockback utility, you’re taking that out and adding nothing in that can prevent stomps/clear points etc, and without any offhand cc you’re relying on F3 shatter to do all your interrupts and cc aside from Moa.

As for traits I always take Phantasmal haste over Shattered strength since the most reliable (if any) of our damage comes from the Phantas, but this is more of a personal choice simply because I don’t like relying too much on shatter for damage and our direct attacks are… crap.

Often you’ll come across oldtimers coming back and being placed in Amber since they never played a season before, which was what happened to me. These are often people with a lot of PvP experience so in low tiers they’ll just roll over less experienced players with ease. It’s really confusing and win/loss ratio is odd because a lot of people are Amber that simply do not belong there. I lost far more games in Amber than in emerald or w/e the next one is.

So something I’ve learned is a fairly normal situation is that I’ve popped my heal and swapped stance but of course the dots keep on ticking, eventually killing me slowly but surely and I find myself lacking options to avoid it.

Also been in the situation where a necro was chasing me from range with autoattacks and since I was low on energy from already trying to get away with riposting shadow I couldn’t do anything about it, he just dotted me up with ease and simply left when he felt the stack was sufficent to kill me off, which he did of course.

So the question is, how to deal with condi? Seeing as the majority seem to be running condi builds now, how do you guys get around it?

I understand that offensive pressure is a useful tool and our evade frames are good for avoiding some application, as well as popping herald heal when you’re getting stacked for some massive healing, but the dots are still there afterwards and since they can be applied with autoattacks you can’t really avoid it all.

Being somewhat stuck in melee is obviously a drawback too as condi application from range is quite normal.

Don’t get me wrong, I do fairly well with Revenant and 1v1 vs condi is sometimes managable, not really against necro that much but still (even when dodging marks). In teamfights however I get the feeling that the condi users deliberately target me first, which makes sense since I lack any meaningful cleanse. It’s pretty frustrating to be thought of as nothing but easy prey so I am wondering if anyone has any helpful tips on how to better deal with condition damage builds?

Hammer Guardian is the same thing, we’re not alone in this.

Rev pretty much does this as well. With some recent changes it’s you throw in Precision Strike too but before that, only AA. Now, mostly AA.

I’d say for lower tiers, it’s kind of “okish”, but the second a condi warr is being played by someone competent you will understand why a lot of people are upset by it.

And I do agree condi overall is a little bit out of hand and classes like rev with very few cleanse options have no way to handle it. You can’t dodge forever. You can’t heal forever, even with “OP” herald heal, that’s 2 secs. And you simply cannot pressure at all either – basically against a condi heavy team, you’re useless. You shouldn’t even be in the match.

Actual comminication and teamplay alleviates this quite a lot though, but then the question needs to be asked: Who is GW2 aimed at? The majority of people in solo q or the minority in teams playing the game in a more serious fashion? Personally I hope the latter is true, but it’s pretty hard to tell sometimes.

If rev is good in WvW great! But this is the pvp forum isnt it? Rev isn’t that great in pvp and no 1 uses hammer on rev in pvp (unless they are new and just don’t know any better)

It is illogical to expect every trait, every weapon, every rune, etc to be designed and considered solely for PvP when the game has three modes, and ironically revs have had far more viable weapon choices since HoT than some classes in PvP.

The OP is complaining about rev hammer being too over powerd in the pvp forum which I guess means people in pvp are using hammers on their rev and its way too powerful…..which no 1 uses hammer in pvp on rev so he clearly doesn’t know what hes talking about. And revs aren’t the only ones with good weapons…..I don’t see anything better about rev weapons than other profession weapons. Like I said I get 1 shotted by thiefs while on my rev all the time. I can’t think of anything a rev is good at killing except maybe a guardian( those melt like butter).

They are gradually transitioning into more support like things it seems. It still has good damage potential but it’s fairly easy to avoid compared to some others. No real way to deal with conditions either so the Rev is kinda easy prey for condi, add to that no ranged condi wep of their own or any really viable ranged wep for use in PvP as well as nerf to PT means they’re kinda getting shafted since revs are forced to be melee and they are losing the ability to do that well too.

As for the OP’s complaints – I agree, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The Hammer is dreadfully slow, only way you can get some decent use out of it is with Impossible Odds and even then sword does more damage. And how can anyone NOT avoid being hit by the hammer really, it’s heavily telegraphed, extremely slow and pretty easy to dodge.

Ehm.. Yeah clones are useless cannon fodder. That’s exactly what they are and exactly what they are meant to be and exactly what they should be. They distract both NPCs and bad Pvpers (which are a lot like NPCs). They provide you the additional boost for your shatter skills. Just little things though, like increasing the timer on your continuum split so you can summon two berserkers, drop two healing wells, double moa someone, drop two gravity wells etc. Or maybe add a bunch of torment/confusion on someone? But I guess that’s not very useful is it… Maybe they should just rework the entire class mechanic and have clones be like ranger pets instead (except you have three of them and they each do the exact same attacks and damage as you do…?) and just drop all this nonsense about confusing enemies and shattering clones at opportune moments. Not like it’s fun to play at all right?

There may be a problem with application of common sense here. Let’s say every morning on your way to work/school/whatever, some guy is standing down the street throwing sledgehammers at you. What is the best way to deal with this? I haven’t tried blocking sledgehammers with my face but I can imagine it’s not very effective.

I completely agree with the OP – it’s gone way too far. The days of calculated decisions and good timing from early GW2 are gone, there is too much damage and CC in general. I would be fine with the damage bit if it wasn’t too easy to pull off.
