I am out of ideas here… Their cleanse, their direct damage, their healing, their cc, their immunities… I can transfer their burn back on them but it’s instacleansed anyway or returned to me if it’s not blocked. What am I supposed to do?

So a more or less constant issue we hear about on the forums during every PvP Season are the problems people are having playing with new players and players that might not understand the game as well as they do. Of course it’s always frustrating to be on a team where your own performance might be great but you lose because your team didn’t know what to do and you lost rating because of it, even though you might have been trying your best to explain the path to victory in /t.

So why not use the rating system to teach players about the game? And at the same time encourage better team play?

So what I’m thinking is, why not give players the chance to avoid losing rating when losing a match if they meet certain criteria? Say, certain number of decaps, certain number of caps (be careful with this one since it may encourage players to stay on points they don’t have to), certain number of revives, certain number of kills etc.

While the thresholds may be difficult to set, Anet now has over 4 years of statistics available to them to help them figure out the amounts or even % needed. I’d also like to mention that using stats such as damage, healing, condi damage etc are probably not the best way to go since players can do a million damage without being a real benefit to their team.

The reason I am suggesting this is because we see a lot of frustration on the forums from people that may play great but they get dealt a bad hand in the team matchup. Now while a great poker player can play a bad hand great, there is still only so much you can do if your opponent actually has a good hand. And when you lose rating because your team plays in a “less than optimal” way, it can be very frustrating and discouraging.

I believe that if the rating requirements are made abundantly clear to new or less experienced players they may be less prone to “mobbing” or making decisions that are not to the benefit of the team.

What do you guys think about a rating system where you can retain or even gain rating through good performance? And a rating system designed to teach people effective PvP in Guild Wars 2?

Keybinds Per Class

Although there is some merit to keybinding guide vids, they are useless a lot of the time because what works for one guy might screw over another. Just listen to what tips are given outside the actual keys and find a setup that works for you.

In addition the skill count of GW2 is so tiny compared to other games that if you’ve played other MMOs it won’t matter. I had around 65 keybinds on my old wow warlock with macros and normal keyboard/mouse. Know some people that were doing 90+ with extra button mice for example.

Who knows how any of it works. Not entirely sure Anet does either. It’s such a silly system that if a group of randoms loses a game, you lose rating no matter what. You can play like a God, be absolutely flawless in everything, win 1v2, win 1v3, doesn’t matter you still lose rating. A ridiculous and frustrating system.

Thief is actually a good target for a rev with the right build. You can pretty much completely neutralize them or outright kill them if they’re bad. Not gonna bother showing the build because it’s not on metabattle so I’ll get flamed to heck for it.

I don’t think Ventari will be usable without a complete rework, the tablet itself was a silly idea imo, noy enjoyable at all, wouldn’t ever use a Rev if I wanted to play support.

As for condi yeah well… condi just feels half-finished and poorly thought-through. No matter how many suggestion threads are made they don’t seem too interested in listening to any of them. Guess we’ll have to wait until the next expansion to hope for a playable and competitive condi rev. I play it now and then for fun and it is situationally good but fails in so many areas you wouldn’t be able to play against high level teams with one.

This system is so weird. It’s made for pugs yet your personal effort means nothing. Play like a God and lose – bye bye rating. Play like a kitten and win – hello rating! lso keep in mind why you play pvp; is it to reach some arbitrary MMR level? Is it to win each individual match? To get better? Focusing on that will make the journey more fun in spite of losses.

There isn’t much fun in a game where you constantly see your teammates run in 1 by 1 into a group of 4 enemies and you lose with 2 points held because they just farmed kills for the win. Not much fun at all. That’s what happens at lower ratings.

That’s why I wanted to put it here…I know people who kicked out and placed higher right off aren’t seeing it but those of us in the bottom would maybe like to hear something that gives us hope. Cuz it really does seem like this will just get worse as the system filters more people down.

Bardly lol I already explained why it’s the exact opposite. If you’re too good for Bronze, as more bad people filter in and good people filter out, it will get easier for you to faceroll and get out faster. The system doesn’t hate you, there will always be bad people on the other team too.

Still just based on random luck. I’m not one of those people that start calling others “noobs” and shouting about “l2p” etc in team chat if we’re losing, I just keep going out and doing what I can to prevent it. But there are so many cases where you simply can’t, no matter how hard you try or how well you play. It’s really depressing when you feel like you’re having the game of a lifetime and then you see your teammates clump up at your close to take down 1 guy. And they all stand at the point to wait for cap as well…

And now you’re stuck there and can’t move, only if you get lucky with teams 10 times in a row. It’s really terrible. I had 2 dcs and a game with 3 power warrs on my team in placement. Ended up in bronze and no matter how well I play, if we lose I lose rating. Even if I were to solo their team five times while the rest of my team scratches their balls afk I still lose rating.

Whoever thought this was a good idea for a pug-based system really needs a good smack to wake him/her up.

The matchmaking system changes but the only thing that doesn’t change is the complaints. Some of you need to give it a rest and let the rating solid up some. Some of you are just bad and still in denial since you had the groups banned your looking for another excuse why your still failing.

I think it’s sad people still use this arguement. You can be subject of bad composition, bad players and class stacking yet no matter how insanely good you play a lost match is a loss of MMR. For a pug system that just isn’t good enough.

They are strong enough to swing a greatsword with 1 hand while summoning a phantasm. If you ask me that’s pretty kitten strong. (not what you were talking about, but still)

Swinging it around and attacking with it are two entirely different animals.

I hate this entire system… I get put into games with 3 power warrs or 2 power necros and the like, the class stacking is insane. Not only that, but I also get put in teams with people that will happily go 4 at a time to rush C with no one there.

So now this system has decided that I suck and I get to play with other people that suck until the end of the season. So fun. Much wow.

I think it’s impressive and really fun that people strive for max achievements. When this was first introduced to wow we all went nuts for it because a lot of those were pretty difficult to get. You had to PvP, raid, complete insanely long quests (tier 0.5 anyone…?) and it was a measure of skill in some ways. Some say “oh its just time spent blah blah” but doing all of that and managing your time to get it was skillful. Plus some achievements later on like undying and immortal were certainly very difficult.

The mace is among the best condi weps in game. For point defense and against melee it is amazing. They either die or back off.

That said, not having a ranged condi wep or even a second condi wep is pretty unfair, hope they’ll rectify this.

Was looking to start a Rev as a fairly new player, but looking at some of these posts it seems that it got nerfed pretty bad, at least thats what people are saying. Is it worth starting a Rev, or should I wait and play other characters?

It was a heavy hit for us and what makes this so upsetting is that it’s a straight nerf since other skills weren’t improved to make up for it in any way. It tells the story that Anet is unhappy with the strength of the Revenant and wants to tune it down, not shift the balance or playstyle.

As for the outcome, remains to be seen. People are always quick to preach doom and gloom and while it’s totally understandable after such a major hit it can have a silver lining as new builds or styles might emerge. A crappy thing is that we can’t really expect the weapon selection to change much since we have no real options there.

As for your own char, the great thing about gw2 is that you can try out any class at max lvl in pvp by simply making it. If you enjoy melee and want to be a heavy hitter check out thief or guardian (dh) which also comes with a lot of utility should that be your interest. If you just wanna annoy people, check out Mesmer etc. I’d say just spend a day or two trying stuff out and you might end up on something you really enjoy.

Yeah condi rev is weird because it +1s really well if you enter the fight by boonstripping, but it’s also a decent choice for bunkering if you mix your offensive skills and defensive peels well.

Indeed. It’s also very, very good point defense and good vs melee as you force the enemy to fight inside the #2 area. I keep having thieves jump on top of me where the bad ones die as they don’t move out while the good ones are effectively neutralized as they can’t get to me without taking significant damage.

Necro is good but you have to be a really good player as the class don’t carry you by default in defense.

The fun starts when you are about mid-high/high skilled with necro so knowing your class well.

I win a lot of 1v1’s against any class, some warriors give me headache.

This is absolutely not true. I got tired of being torn apart by condi on my rev all the time so I decided to dust off my old necro to figure out how to play against it better. And wow… just wow. How well you can do on a necro with 0 knowledge and experience is just crazy. The actual skill difference between this and rev or even Mesmer is just ridiculous, it was so easy I thought about a permament reroll.

As for power rev, would be fun if someone came up with a decent GS build that doesn’t get torn apart instantly

You’re not wrong about that. Shiro and Sword 1 was basically the best DPS in the game. And I don’t think Anet was happy with that situation. Which is understandable in my opinion. However, killing it or “moderating” it may have been fine had we received compensation in another form, which we have not. This was a straight nerf, not a rebalance. I hope we won’t have to wait too long before they adjust other skills to make up for it, if it ends up being necessary.

I don’t normally argue semantics and maybe someone has asked this already (cba reading x pages of comments), but if you consider 50% and 33% nerfs to main damae skills to be “slightly brought down”, what would constitute a “major” nerf for you? 95%+ assuming “moderate” is in the 75% area.

Most of my fourth season was playing condi Herald; wasn’t as good choice as playing the power variant but was more fun. After the October patch I stopped playing the class because you simply can’t survive the cc, and being tossed like a doll makes you harmless (condi builds rely more in damage over time than in burst; you don’t apply damage if you’re stunned, knocked down, dazed, chilled, rooted, terrorized…).

Yeah that’s pretty much my concern as well, our lack of defensive options in condi builds is a bit weird. Not sure what they’re thinking here… Maybe they see condi rev being a beast as long as it has support but even that doesn’t seem likely based on relative strength of the condi build vs other classes.

I wish they could communicate with us exactly where they want the class to sit. Like mentioned in the post above we don’t have the option to build conditions at a range, so you’d think the logic would be that once you got into close combat you’d have an easier time with it than someone who can just stand at a distance doing it. Not so.

I really don’t understand what the actual purpose of the class is and hopefully Anet will communicate this to us. And if they don’t know, which seems somewhat likely, I hope they’ll figure it out and adjust accordingly.

So let me get this straight. Anet butchered thief and war when they released HoT to make spot for revs and they make revs stupidly overpowered. After 4 seasons devs finally attempt to bring revs that were broken for almost a year to other classes level and you call it RiP revs lol? THIS is what happens when you introduce broken class to promote sales and then forced to bring them down at some point – people got so used to be being broken they thought it is normal and now they complain about changes they needed to happen.

If the staff thief is a butchered class I hope they butcher power mesmer next.

I would not redesign the class at all. But I would give more visual feedback to the person playing the Mesmer to better control the phantas and illusions as mentioned.

Maybe instead of three bubbles you could give us a bubble for illusions and icons for phantas?

Warlock: Mask
Berserker: Greatsword
Swordsman: Sword
Duelist: Gun
Mage: I dunno… something magey

I dunno whether this was entirely warranted, it feels kinda kneejerk to me. Then again, it’s better to wait and see how it actually works before preaching doom and gloom.

And as always: Remember “meta” is meant for organized team play and synergy, in random solo queue you can make anything work if you have your wits about you.

It’ll be great only to see skilled players using Rev now. You know, the ones who still see the value of the profession, but instead of whining, they adapt to the changes. Or they whine and then adapt. Either way, they adapt and skill shred everything in sight with well timed CCs and bursts. With the exception of Condi Rev’s torment (which is a torment problem not a spec problem), Rev, I think, will actually be balanced. Welcome to the club that Ele’s were in last season, but they were still played by skilled players and they were just fine. In fact, a good one could still even be a bit OP! You guys will be fine. If you’re dedicated enough to the power build, you’ll do fine. Good warriors in season 1 and 2 even did pretty well sometimes.

Rev still has insane boon output and UA and sword AA still hit extremely hard, and now you can run a Condi spec! You…will…be…fine… It’s not like this is real life. If that was the case, then of course you can complain. :P

So your arguement is that all this is ok because “only skilled players should be able to play rev because it makes me feel better about myself?”

Only Hammer 2 was nerfed, its still a great Rev weapon. Couple it with a full zerker max Burst build and you can deal up to 5 digit dmg on a single CoR easy.

Plus it has a range of 1200, and can hit 5 targets. The only downside is it fire’s very slowly. So if you fighting enemies with shields, that’s when you switch to sword auto and sword 3.

Except … it’s not fun. It’s a boring huge lumbering weapon. Sword/Staff make you feel so mobile, dynamic and it really adds to the feel of the class.

This is all pointless opinions. I think staff/sword is by far the most boring combo there is and that’s just my opinion, blindly following meta and arguing for builds you do not create or even fully understand – pointless. I ran hammer power despite it not being meta and even went condi rev which is far better than many may think. And GW2 is the only game where I’d say skill matters because of normalization.

Input lag is the annoyance for me, living kinda far from servers it’s just not possible to time an attack to ensure a killing blow, it’s basically just a hail mary which for me makes the killstealing have nothing to do with skill and all to do with luck. Luck in a competitive scene = bad. Always bad. Might just be my prob though

In PvE I wouldn’t bother because of the Torment focus.

In PvP it’s really fun and you’re not free kill for opposing condi players anymore. I use Glint as 2nd though, team buffs, swiftness, incredible heal, burn field to push people off point as well as dragon ulti, far better than Shiro TO ME, but some prefer Shiro for the teleport, although you habe constant swiftness with Glint.

Agree with above… its really annoying. I love the char but against the wrong comp you’re just outright boned. Player skill stops mattering when we just don’t have the tools needed to deal with certain major gameplay aspects. Think you all know what I’m referring to.

hey i am a returning player i plan on maining my rev but i am unsure about what build to go whith i would prefey to play a hammer focused rev (got herald fully unlocked)

i play mostly pve whith a little pvp do anybody have a good build

Since the HoTs mobs can be pretty painful for solo play I’d look for something with CC and AoE when needed, that’s your hammer right there. Sword + any for 2nd wep. Herald and Shiro legends, pop quickness with Sword #1 spam = Facemelt.

That’s the easiest way to go in my opinion, if you want something a bit more fun I’d go Herald/Mallyx with condi, that’s what I play in PvP as well with Hammer 2nd for control. We don’t have a ranged condi wep though so that kinda sucks…

I.e. All abilities can be useful, but not all abilities can be most useful.
