these forums are almost as annoying as tumblr with the constant threadkittenting. It’s not a ranked match, and hes’ not trying to redefine the meta with this video. People need to get a grip and understand the point of some videos.

What is the point? Showing off? Has to be able to accept some criticism if he wants to show off, the point we’re making is simply that more damage doesn’t equal good play. Tbh I find it hard to believe that any sPvP focused rev player has never reached 1 mill dmg so the vid is kinda pointless for that. Gw2 isn’t like a wow battleground where stats is king, it’s all about play.

Fact is a player with 1/5 of that dmg is potentially more useful if he actually gets the kills, the caps/decaps and the distraction. Saluting this as an accomplishment sends the wrong message when it is exactly the opposite of that.

Tbh hes kind of right. You wont have tons of damage if you nuke people in seconds, but when you fight them forever your damage in log rises but.. you dont bring many kills. A lot of us had over 1 mil damage in S1 bunker meta and how often people were dying? Think about it. If you played moba you would understand it.

There are people who fight on lane whole time rising their damage dealt over time and then theres also this guy who comes in, 100-0 you and goes off and happen to have less damage at the end of a game than people who been fighting whole time with no kills.

Look at my picture. Vulcan has 30k damage who happen to almost double me in damage (im Ratatoskr) yet he has just one kill. Thats cause he was poking people whole game but coulndt kill them on his own while i have been deleting them, waiting for proper time to nuke them down. Who had more of an impact in this game? Me.
Damage is not everything and in fact nothing if you cant kill anyone.

PvP 101…You have sustain DPS and you have people that pick people off…If you don’t have either you will loose the fights. NEXT TIME I will post a video with 100k damage and 25kills and the next diss will be "BIK THEY ARE ALL UP LVLS THEY ARE SO BAD I CAN KILL THEM WITH SHIELD BASH….

There is no winning in forums with people that are only pleased when your complaining about buffs and nerfs….You want people to come here and express the sadness and not talk about the great stuff the class has to offer.

You completely fail to understand the point at all. You want to actually kill people in sPvP, shocker I know. You want to have that +1 boost as much as possible. When you end up with these damage numbers you obviously spent lots of time attacking people but not actually killing them. You let them kite, you let them heal, you fail at locking them down. Essentially you are a giant time waster. This is why 1 mill damage is bad.

Mesmer damage is low because of our utility. Hard to kill, hard to catch, reliable great CC and crazy party utility. We’d have to sacrifice a lot of that to get damage like the other classes sadly… wouldn’t mind somewhat of a boost though, for PvE bosses it’s pretty useless outside of ulti.

What of the dps and utility other classes provide?

Ele had the best dps and before wash away the pain was needed some of the best group sustain too coupled with the flexibility to help in many scenarios. Great example is using water auto at feet in KC block phase as well as general healing.

Guard has long had great party support, blocks, almost monopoly on group stab, group cleanses with little effect on dps and now with traps they have great break bar usage too, once again with little sacrifice to DPS.

Warrior is doing double mesmer damage and gives a massive dps boost to the party for minimal dps sacrifice themselves. I know other classes can stack might but it would come at a high cost to dps and require precision rotations in blasting, something not easily done on moving targets.

The list literally goes on. The only class that offers little utility is thief and its dps build, it has some but most of the time it’s limited to blinds and CC via basi venom share (recent with patch) even if the endurance regen on agility activation is nice.

There is no reason for Mesmer to be doing such a poor amount of sustained dps with all its drawbacks such as phantasms dying when mobs die which massively hampers its cleave and ability to fight adds or in events where it’s mostly smaller enemies.

I would agree were iy not for the issue of PvP, where Mesmers are extremely hard to kill, they have the ability to lock people down as well as distraction and outright frustration to the enemy team. All of which are useless for bosses sadly.

None of the classes you mentioned can do that nearly as good, so a lot of that would have to go if our dps is to be boosted.

I agree, when GW2 first came out everything was so tactical. I remember sitting nonstop in sPvP with my friends in every beta weekend. Only thing that could really oneshot you back then was hundred blades and that required quickness and a well-timed cc.

I liked that a lot but I feel GW2 has completely lost that aspect, the aspect that made the game great to me at least.

This is ridiculous really… Revenant complained about in sPvP? Lol… considering the meta condition, revenant just gets shafted by anyone with half a brain and a condi build.

I lvl’d up a necro just to try it in sPvP and have some fun with the class, within the first match I found myself actively seeking out revenants knowing they were completely useless against me. Seems they are more than happy to keep it that way.

And honestly considering the level of effort required to play the revenant in a rev vs necro compared to the guy playing the necro… LOL! What a joke

If you want to make that tradeoff mallyx is there for you. Not exactly condi cleanse but it performs similarly if build for it.
Also while the stability on dodge is nice it’s not mandatory, retribution is also taken for damage reductions. Don’t forget that there is also the invocation herald that doesn’t use retribution at all.

Problem with Mallyx is that to maintain the condi immunity you can’t do any damage. So it’s either survive and be useless or die and be useless. Dealer’s choice.

No you can’t do that unless you constantly switch which will mess you up since you need to summon and move your tablet around (which disappears if you swap to dragon). Healing on a rev is about positioning and smart use of energy, swapping stances constantly will make that really difficult.

Maybe someone can make it work but for me personally, I tried that and found it to just be annoying since you need to swap almost the milisecond it’s off CD to maintain the boons.

I’m so glad people like you aren’t in charge of making games.

To be fair, you can’t know the outcome of a match 100%. Just the other day I was in a game and our thief looked at our team composition and the enemy team’s composition and declared that we were definitely going to lose this game.

Fortunately she still did her best, and we ended up winning 500 to 350. Solid victory.

If she had gone AFK because she assumed we’d lose we would have simply lost rather than getting two delicious pips.

I agree with that, I’m not advocating that it’s ok to give up before the match starts. But if you gave it a proper go and you get flattened in teamfights, no one works together, no coms etc – Rather afk/sit at pad than making it last even longer.

Can I report people who give up?

I understand your frustration. I was struggling a lot with my revenant against the condi meta so I tried making a necro just to see what it was like.

And it was hilarious. Having never played necro before I found a cookiecutter build and went to town. First match was something like 18-0 and without realizing it I was actively pursuing the opposing revenant because it was just another free kill.

What surprised me the most is how easy it was to play compared to rev. I don’t mind them being strong but there’s definitely a major issue with the skill ceiling (or floor in this case).

If you can’t beat em, join em :P

Use the inspiration traitline as mentioned above since you get the restorative illusions as well as mender’s purity. So every shatter removes condi, every heal removes condi. For both you and your team.

If you’re up against a condi-heavy team then depending on the situation you may have to just spam shatters to get condis off you without leaving any time to build phantas/clones for the full effects.

And don’t listen to these angry naysayers, you can play power shatter just fine, but try to focus on the power bit more than the shatter bit since it’s extremely unreliable against people that notice when your clones start homing in and dodge.

Makes sense, all points seem to say that i’d be better off with nearly any and all mesmer specs other than a phant setup. Here’s an odd question..

Is there such a thing as a power build that uses scepter?

I know thats an odd question, i just like the midrange/range fight of the scepter, but dont generally care for condi’s, so is this even a possible option? maybe scepter/shield with gs, or sword/torch?

I’d even consider scepter/torch or something. i know. im asking for too much.. lol

You could do that. You lose your iframe from the sword but you have a ranged option which kind of makes up for it. This would probably be the only case where I’d consider using a shield but I still probably wouldn’t.

When it comes to building your char what really matters is that YOU can make it work. Don’t worry about what Pro League players are doing or the personal preference of anyone else – If you can make it work then it works, doesn’kitten Just have to test it out.

For me personally I’d go scepter+pistol and GS here, I just like the GS far too much to ditch it for a sword in this situation – It gives stomp protection, it has decent damage, it’s ranged, it has a good clone spawning attack etc. Point is, it works for me. Is it optimal or the best way to play? I don’t know and I really don’t care, I enjoy it and I make it work.

Obviously as you start facing better and better players you will be forced out of certain… let’s call them “sub-optimal” ways of playing because they exploit the weaknesses they bring with them. But until you hit that point – Do what you want

GW2 pvp is bad. But this is the result of GW2 being primarily a pve game. Pvp suffers from having pve elements part of it. Pve mechanics never ever go well with pvp. Don’t expect any changes, just expect things to get worse.

As history shows, gw2 will always be plagued with extreme balance problems. Either stuff will be too tanky and can’t die fast or stuff will just kill too fast. There will probably will never be a balance between the two.

Only thing I can suggest is just playing another pvp game to your liking.

Now this is a pretty silly statement to make. GW2 PvP is designed specifically to allow you to PvP with any char at any time without having to go through any kind of leveling, grinding or anything other than making your char.

How about the WvW stuff? Yes here you do have to grind but prior to fractals and raids this was pretty much the endgame. Yet this game is designed primarily for PvE?

I think a lot of you are just spoiled to be honest. Go play a game like Black Desert Online. Without putting in 500+ hours of pure PvE grinding you are nothing but cannon fodder in PvP there. Fat, easy kill. And that game has PvP as its endgame! Hell go join the rebirth of DarkFall (aka kitten Fail) where there’s full player looting if you get killed and then complain about how tough and unforgiving GW2 is. Seriously people, wake up. Just because balance isn’t 100% right now doesn’t make this a “PvE focused game” nor does it make it an outright bad PvP game.

99% of your complaints and whines are about metabuilds and mechanics that only impact people playing at a level you can’t ever hope to acheive. Get over yourself.

I think you’re the one who needs to L2… well lots of stuff. Play Mesmer among them. And understand what oneshotting actually means would be a good follow up to that.

Perhaps even L2DH, has a far better option for “oneshot” than Mesmer.

Sword phanta is difficult for WvW since it’s melee, but sure it could work. I’d definitely go with illusions and chrono trait line for stronger phantas and as for weps I’d go sword+pistol and greatsword because you’re always gonna want a ranged option, it’s also a good supplement to phanta damage. You could potentially go scepter instead of sword too, the #3 has decent damage and you also have a block on #2.

I agree with this, constantly blaming “the rest of the team” is not the right thing to do and being the one yelling in team chat doesn’t accomplish anything.

I think a big part of the problem is everyone thinks they know how everything should and must be done – forget that BS, adapt to the situation! I was in Forest of Niflhel with this Necro, I called close and went there, he said nothing and went far, weakening our mid fight. How many of you would have started screaming at that point? I almost did too. In the end we won, he decapped, stole Svanir twice, harassed ressers and basically blocked their entire lane allowing the back bases to be owned by our team. He saw the teams, knew a teamfight was out of the question.

Point is, “You here, you there, ALWAYS” – it doesn’t work. Your way is not the only way.

I think they need to bring the game more in line with what it was two years ago. It was slower for sure and the only abilities that could really hit you for 10-15k was a buffed hundred blades or ambush, and they were more difficult to land and easier to avoid, as well as the player sacrificing a lot in order to do that. Right now you have lots of possibilities for delivering 10k plus in less than a second and it makes the PvP experience less about tactics and brainpower and more about spammy nonsense.

Obviously class balance needs a lot of work, when teams would rather stack 3 of the same class than diversify its a pretty clear sign of problematic class design and balance.

Any tips on improving them?

I was just poking fun, but alright. First of all, this is just my personal preference and I must’ve said this hundreds of times, but I think shield is overkill. What we lack is damage. What we don’t lack is survivability. Your build has blink, decoy, distraction mantra (Not sure why since we have a shatter for that), distortion, aforementioned shatter interrupt and continuum split (not sure why you’re not using Moa for roaming since 1v1s can and will happen). Now the alacrity phanta, ye I get it etc, but for condi I find torch to be far more fun. It adds a stealth for added defense and general annoyance and is a source for burning which does quite hefty damage. All of this is just personal preference in playstyle and as such doesn’t matter at all.

Second, I do get some of your choices for roaming if you’re mainly going it alone, but if you’re even with a small party I’d swap out at least one utility and your elite. Have to remember that as opposed to sPvP you have a lot more freedom of movement in WvW (which a frustrating Mesmer can really exploit), you don’t have to fight on points etc so your inherent survivability from shatters with blink and wep skills should be sufficient to keep you alive in most small group situations. For 1v1 I suppose it’ll do the job.

Other than that, seems fairly standard to me. Again, I hate the shield I think it’s boring as stale poo, but if you’re comfortable with it why not

As you move up in tiers you’ll find people are a lot more inclined to listen when you call plays. You just have to communicate in good way.

Counter to that, if you’re spamming chat, calling people noobs, complaining etc people won’t listen to you. You’ll probably be the one posting on forums about how your teams suck and how everyone else is stupid.

Point is, in a team focused game you aren’t a good pvper if you don’t know how to communicate.

Rev went through changes from beta

The Revenant went through many changes from its original concept.

I believe its time to let go of some of the older design concepts that are still around, such as the Energy System, and the Legend Swap mechanics.

Legend Swap should be designed around frequent swapping like Engineer Kits, instead of the cooldown version we have today.

Cooldowns are all thats needed. the Energy system was an old concept that just never worked out. Yeah cool call back to GW1, but it doesnt even work like GW1 does.

While I agree that the revenant in its current state has issues, I’m not sure making the class a copy of the engineer is the way to go.

I do think Arenanet needs to sit down and do a proper class revamp taking into account many of the last minute changes the class experienced (weapon swaping, cooldown on skill even though energy is required, bugs). The class is now aproximately 6 months old which should give enough knowledge of what works and what doesn’t work.

Personally I would hate seeing things like legendswaping and the energy mechanic go. It’s what makes the class unique (and the lore works around this). Maybe differentiate between weapon and utility skills. Remove energy cost from weapon skills (have them work off of cds) and use energy cost for utility skills. Then let people freely choose utility skills from both selected legends (and ideally racial skills). Rebalance accordingly.

I think it’s fine that weapon skills require energy more akin to a thief. The difference of course being that the Revenant has CD on top of the energy cost which Thief doesn’t have – This only serves to eliminate freedom of play and seems to me like a direct result of poor weapon balance. Add to that pretty much every class except Thief has CD on wep skills, can’t Rev be the other class that doesn’t?

If they could at least choose between CD and Energy cost that would be great – instead of having both which seems overly restrictive and a bit weird. If you use your class resource for attacking why should CDs limit how you want to play it if you’ve spent time building that resource?

As for weapon swap – As far as I understand, this was added because people complained that it wasn’t there. And then it was poorly implemented. No 2nd condi wep, only one underwater wep, only one ranged option – Obviously there are some aspects lacking here. I’m not sure what I’d actually prefer here to be honest, if they take away the weapon swap on a class that’s already not allowed to pick and choose their specific utilities it’ll just add to the restrictive feel of the class.

I suppose removing wep swaps and then also removing CD off wep skills would be “okish” but the class would be so monotonous I can’t imagine many current Revenants would keep playing it at that point.

No one likes being a one-trick pony (Except of course if they’re bad gamers and the one trick happens to be horribly overpowered).

End Game

PvP is a very big part of Guild Wars 2 and if that’s an aspect you find no enjoyment in then I can see the game getting repetitive fast. Lack of endgame content was why I quit back in 2013 but it seems they’ve done a lot to alleviate that situation. I agree that Fractals aren’t very interesting and heavily gated content is something I just don’t enjoy very much.

If you keep having really terrible win/loss I don’t think it’s fair to keep blaming it on having bad teams. Since sPvP is only 5v5, a fairly low amount of players for some fairly large maps compared to other games, every person matters quite a lot and one or even two extreme baddies on your team can be offset by you yourself playing really well.

It’s all about recognizing what the situation requires. Has anyone harassed far? Is anyone guarding close? Are people just spamming mid one by one and getting slaughtered? Your response to these situations can make a big difference.

Take battle of kylo for example, are you losing all teamfights and constantly being outnumbered at mid? Go treb. If you’re decent at 1v1 they’ll have to divert two players just to deal with you and with some smart disengage the treb will barely have downtime because of it.

This discussion is hilarious If you don’t want to grind games and lose more than half of them – MAKE A TEAM! It’s seriously not that hard. Just because they let you solo queue doesn’t mean that you should, especially if you have a really whiny personality.

This is my build. Yeah probably not optimal blah blah, kinda made with the purpose of withstanding condi since that is the spam meta currently. Works fairly well, condi is still problematic but you don’t melt quite as fast at least.
