The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I hope the pvp community here can give me some insights about the matchmaking in unranked, especially for lower ranked players as myself. Today I had one of the worst losing streak I’ve ever experienced in the years I’ve spend time in pvp. It took me 10 losses before I scored a win. Now I have no illusions that I’m a fantastic pvp-er, and my win ratio would be somewhat below 50%, but I never got something like this before.
Is there a logical explanation for how things like this happen? I got the feeling I got matched up against pretty high ranked players, and also often the same players I’ve lost to before. I myself never got out of the amber division, but I have no idea if that also matters for unranked. Also interesting, I got the same pvp map for 8 times in a row. I have no idea if things relate to each other, but I’m just interested in how things work.
Some other information: I’m rank 59, and I played all my matches on a condi reaper.
(I would appreciate it if I didn’t get any reactions like: “Just get better.”, I can do without those.)
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I didn’t choose Caithe, so I didn’t get that particular fight. All I can think is, did it give you the option to use the reality rift thingy?
No, it just seems to be on an infinite loop. Almost dead, back to 20% health. And repeat.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Same issue here. I just can’t figure it out, utterly frustrating.
(My character is without armor atm, go figure how often I tried already.)
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Aah, I was expecting a topic like this. Always interesting to read all those theories. The general feeling I got after reading the blog post was something like “Oh, that does make sense.” It makes me want to explore the lore when HoT goes live.
I’m glad there is no link with the Mursaat, it felt weird to suddenly see them as a supporting race.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
We seem to have another “suggestions to turn Gw2 more into a generic mmo” topic here. There is a lot of room for suggestions and change in this game, but not on those points.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I honestly don’t mean to be harsh or cynical. But this is now two major events in a row where it seems like the QA process failed. What assurances do we have the entire expansion won’t be a bug-ridden disaster? Is something fundamentally changing at ArenaNet?
There aren’t any assurances, and I don’t think you (or anyone) is going to get them. It’s not reasonable to ask for assurances, because unsuspected things happen. All the time. Testing on a live server can bring problems that are completely new and couldn’t be predicted. Something that works fine first can suddenly break, etc etc. It’s a good thing that they are open in their communication. It’s clearly not that easy to fix, so that will take its time.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Combining tempest with a staff and shouts/cantrips = much fun. Still running on full offensive gear (berserker/assassin) and it’s going pretty well. Bit glassy, but I’m used to that.
Air overload feels so nice right now. Fav!
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Why disable them anyway? Yes the UI didn’t work properly but we could still do the raid with a few workarounds.
Most likely it isn’t that simple. It’s a pretty hard decision to disable something completely. I don’t think this came lightly.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Nice to see all the raid devs gather and tell a bit about their awesome jobs. Strength in numbers!
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Just don’t go with groups who require specific gear. You get a better experience of the game as a plus, and you don’t have to worry about this anymore. Win win situation.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
A step in the right direction. Additionally, I hope they get rid of the 3 target cap of the air overload eventually. Also, I really miss the cool down reduction on overloads, I hope to see that back.
The new elite feels like a possible life saver, would like to try that out in different situations.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
It’s almost ironic that you accuse others of terrible debating, while you claim that everything you provide are facts and should be seen as the only truth.
Almost everything I provide are facts and should be seen as the only truth.
The gameplay between GuildWars and GuildWars 2 is pretty different
False.
Both are third person online RPGs with an slightly over the shoulder camera. In both, you use a limited skill bar to cast skills in order to defeat enemies. In both, you have very similar professions, often similar skills, and the setting is very similar. They both have the same engine.
“Pretty different”? Compare Guild Wars 2 with Tetris. THAT is pretty different. Anything else is irrelevant.
More importantly, the point behind this comparison also happens to be irrelevant – it’s an excuse claiming that you cannot compare content in the original GW with content in GW2. Not only we can – because, rather obviously, they are very similar games -, but those who claim you cannot compare GW1 with GW2 also happen to say that we cannot compare GW2 with anything else. And that’s because GW2 would end up losing.
The amount of armor is less in Gw2, but the difference isn’t that big as you want us to believe. A lot of the EotN armor were remakes with different details, elite armor was basically the same in concept as the normal ones (with some exceptions), etc etc
Sure! And all GW2 armor just happens to be completely unique! No repetition here, of course not, no sir!.
Meanwhile, even if you were to reduce the number of unique armor art in the original Guild Wars by half, we would still end with 5 times more unique armor art available in game in GW1 than in GW2.
And saying “GW2 armor is more complex, that’s why it’s ok for ArenaNet to make less” is a joke. Not only they have twice as much staff today, but if they have made the process of designing armor so complex that they are reduced to one tenth of the total unique art, well, they really should learn how to make better processes.
In my opinion (as you stated yours), the free accounts are nothing more than a glorified trial, with a lot of encouragement to buy the whole packet.
Irrelevant. You must be very poorly informed about MMORPGs if you think the GW2 current model is unique. Saying it’s a glorified trial is a blatant excuse when many other MMORPGs went free to play under the same or very similar conditions to what GW2 does now. Wishful thinking doesn’t change the big “play for free” message in front of the GW2 website.
Would you like an example? The Old Republic, a game that even its parent company admitted to be a failure, has a business model in which players can experiment all content in the core game for free, although with limits in gameplay (such as less bank space). Meanwhile, in order to access the content of the “Shadow of Revan” expansion, players need to actually buy the expansion. Is some of that even slightly familiar?
And yep, that’s free to play. And yep, all MMORPGs that went from another business model to free to play did not change because their previous business model was a success. Do you have even the slightest evidence that GW2 is the single exception to this rule?
No?
Somehow, I didn’t think you did.
Saying that GW2 is not free to play, and that the reason it’s currently free to play is not because it has failed, is simply denial. That’s, well, a fact and the only truth. If you think otherwise, I dare you to prove it, because I know you can’t.
EDIT: Oh, and the kittens are very happy, I assure you.
Ah, we’re still going on. You keep stating that everything you say are facts, while they’re not. You find information, form an opinion about it, integrate that in your arguments and use counter aggressive phrasing to make it look like it’s absolute. If people dare to disagree with you, you project that as denying the given facts (that are just your opinion). The links you provide support your opinion, so well done on that. It doesn’t make them facts.
Just focusing on you last statement, you never gave reasoning why Gw2 failed. It sold over 5 million copies in 3 years, that’s pretty good for an mmo. It’s on the 16th position in the ranking of sold pc games, what is also pretty decent. The only mmo above it is WoW. (And GW, but you can debate if that’s an mmo.)
I’m glad the kittens are doing well, I was worried about possible fractures and internal damage because you recklessly threw them around.
(Here is that list btw: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PC_games. And if you really want to nitpick by calling wikipedia a terrible source, just check all the references. The information is out there.)
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
It’s pretty well established that the gameplay between GW1 and GW2 is very different.
“Pretty well established”? Riiiiiiight.
Have you noticed something interesting? How my posts are filled with links and facts, while your own are basically a nice collection of kittens?
GW doesn’t have 150+ different armor unless you count the differences between professions. If you do that then you can do the same in GW2 versus the five races so you have 90+ armor from GW2.
…It takes someone with no knowledge about either game to say that Warrior Elite Canthan armor is the same thing as Elementalist Elite Canthan armor, but that human Embroidered armor is oh “so” different from sylvari Embroidered armor.
These are the unique armor sets. I count like 33 of them.
So, stop trying to dodge the question. You are saying that:
I like how you manage to destroy your own credibility, when you say those “two” armors are completely different from each other then claims that GW1 is completely different from GW2.
Also, F2P does not mean the game failed
Really? Because which MMORPG has changed its business model to free to play because its previous business model was a big success?
The Old Republic? Even its parent company admitted it was a failure.
ESO? They are still suffering layofs.
Wildstar? LOOOOOOOOOOOL!
But hey, you can continue to ignore everything related to facts and evidence and assume that everything is fine. It will make it much funnier when reality comes crashing down around you.
I’m sorry but going to F2P is not an indication that a game is failing.
Because… One more of your kittens, I guess?
See, you failed to answer a simple question:
Which MMORPG has changed its business model to free to play because its previous business model was a big success?
Or are you going to avoid the question, just like you are trying to avoid the truth?
Dont forget gw2 is not like other games .. we always keep getting new stuff !
Sure, sure. In 3 years, we got in game:
- Illustrious armor (the ascended one)
- Glorious armor (the PvP one) and its reskin, Glorious Hero
- Carapace and its reskin, Luminescent
- Hellfire armor
- Radiant armor
Meanwhile, the Gem Store got:
- Aetherblade armor
- Primeval armor
- Braham’s armor
- Phalanx armor
- Flamewrath armor
- Zodiac armor
- Rampart armor
- And 24 (!!!) outfits
So yeah, we definitely keep getting stuff… In the Gem Store. We got even less armors in-game than in the Gem Store, and that’s considering how ArenaNet said they would focus the Gem Store in outfits, not in armors.
They made that statement after they started doing outfits. You can’t make their statement retroactive and then accuse them of lying.
in GW1 we had in one year more new armors in-game then we have gem store armor skins in GW2, in my eyes they have become extremely lazy.
In GW1, you had only humans to play as which is much different than what we have in GW2. More work is required to create GW2 armor than GW1 armor.
nope, the same work is required, the model in GW2 can be used for GW1 just as easy, only the skin is made specifically for ether.
also, most models are made for humans and adjusted for other races, the only “extra” work is for the charr and even with that it’s half the work then normal. (only one model made)Nope.
Typical answer. It really shows a master of debate using logic and facts to debunk an argument. As opposed to, you know, using only kittens.
It’s almost ironic that you accuse others of terrible debating, while you claim that everything you provide are facts and should be seen as the only truth. Most things are pretty questionable, so let’s give it a go.
The gameplay between GuildWars and GuildWars 2 is pretty different, in a way that the gameplay in GW is very simple in concept. While there were a lot of more skills to use, things like dodging and jumping were non-existent. There were some instant activation skills, but the majority (everything with a casting time) grounded your character, while GW2 knows a lot more mobility. Besides that, GW was as a whole concept made for a maximum party size, what had a great impact on the development of content. Scaling meant something else completely for GW, it was a lot less dynamic. I could go on and on.
(The ethos in both games might be comparable, but that is something that can be seen as a good thing, and preferable for things like the lore.)
The amount of armor is less in Gw2, but the difference isn’t that big as you want us to believe. A lot of the EotN armor were remakes with different details, elite armor was basically the same in concept as the normal ones (with some exceptions), etc etc. And for the matter of fact, you can pretty much discuss how much time it took and takes to create armor skins in both games. We will only know that as a fact if Anet tells us, what you claim about it is an opinion, not a fact.
So, shall we discuss F2P as a whole concept in Gw2? In fact, the big boss of Anet had some things to say about that. I’m sure you have seen that, as active as you are. In my opinion (as you stated yours), the free accounts are nothing more than a glorified trial, with a lot of encouragement to buy the whole packet. Upcoming content is B2P, and that is pretty much like the existing business concept. The only thing this F2P does is lure new players to the game. Besides that, Gw2 did lack a trial possibility if you look at it.
So shall we keep at it? Or is this enough to show that you’re only giving your opinion on things, and that your facts are questionable at least. You could also try to throw less kittens around, I’ve heard that people might tend to take you more serious if you do that. The kittens themselves would be pleased too.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
The concepts behind overloading an element were pretty well received
This is completely untrue, and if you actually believe this its a good indication of the direction the Ele is heading.
Overload in its current state (melee channel on extremely squishy character with no inherent defense) is an incredibly terrible idea.
It does nothing but hamper the Ele in any weapon set, nor provide any “tools” that the Ele doesn’t already possess.
Between Overloads and Rebound its pretty apparent that you guys don’t understand how the Ele functions at its most basic level. And you created it!
It doesn’t have to be untrue just because you don’t agree with it. If you know how to do it better, then give some feedback. Posts like this are going nowhere and are just very tiring.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
How about making the overload do something the elementalist couldn’t already do:
It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to come up with something that would cheer up the elementalist that will buy HoT:
Water Overload:
Pulse cleanse condi, gives accelerated regen to 5 allies
at the end of the overload ressurect up to 3 in-down-state players on a 900 radius with an arcane shieldFire Overload:
Gives retal when overloading
Rapidly stacks burning to close opponents (3 stacks per second for 3 seconds, 320 radius)
At the end of the overload burns 5 foes around you (600 radius) with 1 stack of wild fire, (high damage burning, new condi).
Wildfire prevents the usage of dodgerollEarth Overload
Stacks Cripple and bleeding to enemies in 320 radius
When it blast if gives slow up to 5 enemies and 2 seconds of quickness to the caster per foes hit, blast always critAir Overload
permanently blind foes in a 320 radius for the duration of the cast
Blast a bolt of lightning that will bounce between 12 targets and give alacrity to allies in its pathAfter starting with something interesting (could be something else, but at least something new) it’s going to be much easier to tweak numbers.
I like what you did here. I only wonder how things will balanced out if we get access to a lot of things we currently don’t have/have in limited amounts. I think there should be something that justifies the amount of time you have to stay in an attunement.
(Personally I had no problem to trigger the overloads, because I tend to stay a bit longer in every attunement anyway. Even in pvp. You get very creative in build creation if you have coordination issues.)
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
It’s a start. My guess is that more will follow, on every aspect.
But some people really have some attitude problems here. Time constraints doesn’t mean Devs don’t care about an elite spec and don’t want to spend any time to work on it. There are countless things that can effect the amount of work the Devs can deliver. It is a shame that the standard reaction seems to be: “I don’t see the changes I wanted, so Anet doesn’t care.”
Thats not actually the reaction, the reaction is they have ignored most of the feedback and are actually making false statements such as the overload concept has been well received.
And how is that a false statement? How do you know that there weren’t any reaction about how people enjoyed overloads? Because there are more negative posts on the forum than positive ones? With the same users posting over and over again?
There are so many ways to make opinions known. Mail, social media, direct messaging, in game, written letters if you want to be fancy. All possible, even if Anet prefers the forums to get feedback. You know that most of those rare positive posts are also being posted by the same people over and over again?
I don’t disagree with that. But in my eyes it’s connected to my earlier point that people who aren’t happy with content or changes tend to be a lot more vocal about it. Especially on forums, because of the opportunity of discussions. And yes, these can also be very helpful and provide lots of feedback. But it doesn’t have to correctly show the proportions between the amounts of positive and negative opinions.
Praising them for this is like praising the mechanic that didn’t fix the engine of your car, but rather just put some new tires on it and send it out to you to do a test run.
Your car still doesn’t work, but hey “It is a work in progress, maybe by the end of the deadline I will fix your engine and it will run, maybe not, but pay me the full price of the fix anyway.”
You are right here. Except that we didn’t hit the end product yet. Till release it’s all allowed construction time.
Did you even see the Elite Skill and Vote threads? Mostly negative.
Also, it might be “construction time”, and that’s why they need to see all this negative feedback. Fix it before we’re stuck with it.
I did see those threads, and I also noticed that the majority on those threads are negative. And I don’t want to object given feedback, because that’s indeed needed to fix things. I just wanted to say with my original post that all that kittening and the “Anet doesn’t care because we didn’t get what we want.” is highly nonconstructive.
If a Dev mentions that there were time constraints which had effect on the development time, then why should we doubt that? This is a start. There is most likely more to come, and for a matter of fact I do believe the given feedback on the forums will be used.
I’m also not satisfied by how the Tempest currently works out. I do agree with a lot of the feedback given by experienced Elementalists. But I see possibilities and I don’t feel like drowning in a negative spiral.

Also, it’s ridiculous to claim that the Tempest is the most hated elite spec there is. People who don’t like stuff or disagree with how things work tend to be more vocal about it. And true, there are a lot of feedback and complaints here on the forum, but just scanning these posts show the same names over and over again. We have some very vocal complainers over here, but that doesn’t reflect the whole community of Ele/Tempest players.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Chronomancer-Changes-for-Next-BWE/first
Now compare it to our changes, which Tempest definitely needed the most. Reaper and Chronomancer got good changes with actual reasons from the Developer as to why it was buffed/changed/unchanged. Hell, they made an entire new minion AND a new mechanic JUST for the Reaper.
We just got numbers. Can’t blame people for being upset.
I don’t blame people to be upset. If they want to be, go ahead.
But it’s a fact that the Dev team had/have time constraints while working on it. Taken that in consideration, it’s a good thing that they made a start, and can expand on this. They acknowledge the given feedback (if you believe it or not), there are more rounds before release to change content.
Some people choose to react without any respect. That isn’t working out.

What do you guys think about this, if (just if) warhorn gets replaced with a sword:
Sword skills:
- Fire
-chain AA, slashing with fiery animations, last AA will throw fiery sword at your foe, burning him – 150 range, 3rd AA 600 range
-Throw fire projectiles at your foes, dealing huge dmg (animation similar to guard’s Zealot’s Defense, but with fiery projectiles and without that barrier) – 600 range
-spin around (just 1x, not 100x like an idiot with fire overload), creating wave of fire that burns foes, gain 1 sec of retalation for each foe struck – radius 240- Water
-chain AA, slashing with ice animations, each hit heals you, last one launches small water wave, which heals nearby allies and inflicts weakness to enemies. – 150 range, 3rd AA 180 radius
-Leap to target area, which grants regeneration and cures 1 condition from nearby allies, deals little damage to enemies – 600 range, 200 radius, leap finisher
-Thrust your sword into the ground, creating ice blade in target location (similar animation to mesmer’s gs skill 3), damaging and chilling enemies – 900 range, 240 radius, blast finisher- Air
-chain AA, slashing with lightning (or windy) animations, last one sends a lightning bolt to nearby foes (acts like ele’s staff air 1, but weaker, similar to the one Mai Trin is doing) – 150 range, 3rd AA 400 range
-Strike your foes with flurry of lightning (or windy) strikes, each strike applies 1 stack of vulnerability (Animation similar to war’s Flurry or mesmer’s Blurred frenzy, but with lightning or windy theme) – 150 range
-Throw lightning sword at your foe, blinding him. If the sword successfully hits, teleport to that foe and gain swiftness – 900 range- Earth
-chain AA, slashing with dust/rocky themed strikes, 2nd and 3rd strike bleeds your foe, 3rd one also cripples for 1 sec – 150 range
-Surround your sword with rocks and use it to block next attack. If attack is blocked, you can throw remains of that rocks to your the attacker, blinding him and foes around – throwing 900 range, projectile finisher
-Send out a wave of rock spikes ahead of you, crippling and bleeding foes – 900 rangeI think something like this can work, it is a melee range, but also provides some mid range abilities and mobility (still they should fix scepter too)
PS: this is just to the weapon issue, not the rest issues
It’s melee. I would prefer a new long range option. Besides that, just as a concept, it’s like grabbing sword skills from other professions with an elemental sauce over it. It’s not bad, but Anet should be capable of getting some more creative ideas in an upcoming elite spec.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a lot of changes incoming, it doesn’t hurt to stay optimistic about the Tempest.

Weapon swap is a no go. Our skill pool is large enough as it is. Not talking about the viability of utilities, don’t want to open that again.

It took them weeks/months for this update. Coding somethign like this is very complex, be happy you didn’t truly loose ap, you didn’t truly loose traits, now that would be bad, their testing prevented this. The only thing (wich is rather small, all things considered), that still bugged was visual representation. A rather small bug, relative easy to fix. Also very random bug (wich is why it’s not tested cause some chars have it, others not).
I don’t know if it’s easy to fix, but you’re right that the impact of a display issue is way less of a problem. I don’t get all the negativity.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I’ll go for 2. It has potential in my eyes, the overloads are something I really want to try out, and the warhorn skills are way more interesting than I suspected. I don’t give it a 1 (yet) because I don’t know if it really matches my desire to keep using a staff. And it is really hard to decide which spec line to replace with Tempest.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I think this will go well with air and water. Or maybe fire for some more offensive specs.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Fact is that you say exactly the same in multiple topics. You are disappointed, we get it.

Honey boo boo, take a look at how many keys need to be pressed for the plethora of elementalist’s skills.
Now take a look at the typical console controller and a find the same amount of buttons to do that and everything else an ele does. Or a engineer.
Nope. Unless you’ve got some mega next level space age controller then not gonna happen. Ain’t nobody got time fo dat.
It’s really not that hard to find a working keybind for guild wars 2.
Since at any moment you only have like 17 (10 skills+4 F buttons+weapon swap+jump+dodge) actions you can do. If you divide that into groups of 5 which you bind to the right side of your controller (4 face buttons + 1 shoulder button) and use the left shoulder buttons to switch between those 3 sets of 5 actions. It’s pretty doable. I did it and it actually works quite well. You won’t be able to compete with pc gamers, but since the console version would have it’s own servers it wouldn’t really matter.
That said, I don’t think GW2 will come to consoles since it won’t run well on them. They are pretty much just customized AMD apus for notebooks and we all know how well this game runs on even the fastest desktop AMD cpus.
I think the bold line is also a thing what really matters. Anet doesn’t like to break up the community. Now you can argue about the different servers we have, and that Europe, America and China aren’t combined, but porting to consoles would create yet another seperate community.

Wow!
You’ve spent the time to give a comment that doesn’t add anything to the topic!
Congratulations.
Like seriously..

Got the ultimate edition. No regrets.
Yet. As you have purchased something without actually knowing the full content, which may disappoint you so much you quit playing it after a week or a month.
It’s good to see 10+ players jumping in and throwing money at Anet, compared to the many many posts saying ‘no thanks’, will be interesting to see how it all works out.
You have no idea about what I like and what I don’t like. I’m not quitting in a week or a month, because even the core game delivers still enough fun for me. If I had doubts about the content, I would have waited for a period. I’ll find ways to enjoy playing HoT anyway.

Blasting Staff was going to be baseline right? I can’t find it in the prepatch notes..
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Almost every map has something I really like, it’s very hard for me to choose a favorite. Mostly little areas of certain maps are stunning in my eyes, for example I love the Icevine Dale and Taigan Groves areas in Wayfarer Foothills. Such a pretty snowy forest.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I think it’s a wonderful idea, mostly because we all grieve on our own way. To honor him in game, as you are a strong Gw2 community, seems only fitting. It would be great if Anet could make it happen. =)
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
Slightly off topic, but for starters I don’t even get why profession names should be translated in a German of French translated version. Those are 9 base notions in the game, and clear understandable too.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I’m almost at the opposite of the spectrum. I’m glad ArenaNet didn’t translate the game to my native language Dutch. Games feel so awkward in Dutch, I have problems taking things serious if games got translated to my native language. Maybe just practice some English, you can even learn things while playing the game. I got a lot more knowledge of the English language while playing GW some years ago.

We have waypoints . . . No.
that didnt stop gliders…lol
Because waypoints also get you everywhere in the game, even on hidden places. Oh wait..

Ascended Gear
Can someone tell me why ascended gear is a bad thing?
The first bad thing about ascended gear was that everyone in the game assumed exotic was the max tier. Even though ascended is not needed for most of the content, people still like to have BiS items. I play a game called warframe.. I can get away with the basic guns in that game, as can anyone. But no one does. They want the BiS gear that they can get. So the issue here is that everyone assumed exotic was the max tier and not 3 months later, that was changed. Without warning. Without notice.
The second bad thing was that Arenanet says it was always planned…If it was planned, you could have told the community before launch so we wouldnt get all upset and 2 years of crying would have been avoided. Simple solution. Its so simple that to lose sight of such a simple solution tells me that they are lying and it was a knee jerk reaction.
It seems you have a problem with the way ArenaNet is communicating with their customers, and not with the existence of ascended gear. I don’t know anyone ingame who complains about ascended gear, and how it suddenly became the best gear in the game. Especially because it isn’t needed for most of the content. I don’t see the problem here.
ArenaNet is known for not telling a lot of information in advance, they choose to notify the community about content when they are sure it’s good to go and are entirely happy with it. Ascended gear was planned from the start, but I’m not surprised they didn’t talk about it before they were satisfied about the way of implementation. As said, it seems you have a problem with their way of communicating to the customers. And because you don’t like it, you feel the need to accuse them of lying.

Here we go..
- All my characters have background stories, but I’ll never tell them to anyone. Connected to this is that I’ll never RP is public and just keep all the things that happen in their life in my head. I do respect roleplayers though, although the overly romantic stories make me cringe.
- I never like people with characters who share the name Cyan with me, I was first with it anyway, don’t copy me.
- I have 19 characters, and I prefer humans over every other race. Norn and Sylvari are acceptable because of the humanoid features, my single Charr is cute, but Asura are hideous. I even specifically noted in my mains background that she hates and detest Asura. I want to pull their ears off.
- I was not planning in sharing some of the background of my main. Uh yes..
- I always use Tornado as elite for my main, even if people don’t like me because of it. It’s background related as well. (Shoot..)
- I always forget my Fractals rank, and also don’t know where to find it. Because of this, I never do Fractals anymore.
- I never did CoE and I often forget it exists. On top of that, I often forget how paths in dungeons work and what I have to do. I feel a bit ashamed that I have to ask my guildies again and again, because I just don’t remember it.
- My left hand is slightly disabled and because of that I use my mouse to activate skills. I hate people who call names on people who use their mouse for whatever reason there is. On top of that, I hate it when people kick players for it.
- I run what I want to run, I don’t like people who tell you what to run or what kind of gear you should have. All zerker builds don’t enjoy me at all.
- Lastly, people who walk pass me when I need a ress get a lot of curse words to their heads. People who do ress me deserve a statue for their time and kindness.

Kasmeer just has some good observation skills.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I got the sword for my thief, there was only a second that I wondered if it was a good idea for a thief to have a white shining sword. But I got it anyway, just for the heck of it.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I was utterly confused by the vision when I saw it, although I also happened to think that I saw some Zenith crystals. It would be amazing if the Mursaat were somehow involved.
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I really liked this episode, mostly because of Anise. That is one great personage!
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
All her dialogue made me happy, it was very interesting to see her more involved. Defensive about her age indeed, but of course you should never ask a woman that..
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I had to use the checkpoint like 5 times in the end fight, but how epic indeed. Good frustrations and hoping that my elementalist could incinerate that dragon thingie. This is an amazing chapter overall.

I think the game is no longer being designed for us in the West. The game is dying here, (in spite of being the best “at launch” MMO of the last decade, they found a way to squander it), but it’s very successful in China. I’m sure localizations for other Eastern nations will be the next top priority.
Designing for the East is very different than designing for the West. Expect more difficulty, more grind and a decidedly less benevolent cash shop moving forward.
People still playing here are likely seen as die-hards who will surely swallow anything, thus the risks of alienating the remaining Western player-base must be seen as very insignificant vs. the potential gains from targeting the game for Eastern audiences.
The game’s once incredible potential will never be realized. If it was a “dime a dozen” MMO, no one would care, but it was a once in a million opportunity missed by a mile. It’s about the saddest outcome this fifteen year MMO veteran can imagine.
Boo…hiss…boo…
So, was it really necessary to post the same complaint in 3 topics? But seriously, it’s all the same again. The game is dying in your opinion, I still see a lot of people in game. People with constructive criticism, enthusiastic people, people who can appreciate the way the game is going. Of course, there is also the other side of the spectrum, I’m not going to deny that. That category is most likely even the most active here on the forum, what can give a distorted view of things.
Calling all the people who still play in the west die-hards is somewhat amusing. We have a lot of die-hards then, nice to know. But they will not swallow anything, that is over exaggerating. Your post seems to be a bit affected by your own rage about missing content, what you can get fairly easy without even using real live money. Sure, not everyone will be pleased with that, but there is some flexibility. Missing a chapter is also very easy to avoid.
It has nothing to do with me missing content. It has everything to do with a game I once saw as having $billion potential flush even more of that potential right down the drain.
Ultra-challenging material is fine for those who want it, but when Living Story, which was once meant to cater to the masses, keep everyone happy and provide a key selling point for the game, becomes target at the the elite few, I call that content mostly the die-hards will love.
As far as East vs. West influencing future game design, I really need to offer a caveat. That assumes that they will a.) develop for where the money is at, and, b.) do a much better job developing for the East than they have done developing for the West the last 18 months.
I’ve been playing MMOs for over 15 years and I’ve never seen self destructive, post launch game development on this scale, ever. It sucks all the more because this game was possibly the best “at launch” MMO in the history of the genre and appeared to really “get the market” in a way that should have precluded such a reversal of fortune post launch.
To me, Anet post mid 2013 is the Anti-ANet. It’s hard to imagine they are the same studio.
I don’t see it like that, but of course opinions differ. However, the Living Story in itself isn’t ultra-challenging, some of the achievements can be pretty challenging. And you don’t need to complete the achievements to finish chapters of the Living Story, they are optional in other words. Plus, no matter the content there will always be people who think it’s too hard, or too easy, or just right.
The east vs. west thing is in my eyes no more than a case of assumptions and speculation.
