Played Both... Necro or Ele!

I trade out characters all the time depending on what I am wanting to do. First was an ele.. then a Warr so I can play the different styles when I wanted. I will say that I had more fun with my Warr when doing open world and going through maps… but for dungeons… Ele is amazing to have in a group and very fun to play. If you don’t mind leveling, I would just trade out depending on what you are in the mood for.

Choosing a profession ( new to the game )

You really have to forget most of the things about WoW when dealing with GW2. Same standard classes (kind of),.. but play style is very different. Really you can’t go wrong with any of the classes. My recommendation would be to go to the mists and it will bump you up to 80, you can then play around with different classes and see which you enjoy. Keep in mind though to use different weapons as well with each class as your weapons will completely change your plays style 99% of the time.

Has there ever been an official response on what is considered botting?

I don’t think it is “Botting” so much as just immoral.

Just get a Mesmer to teleport them away :P watch them get really mad when then come back from AFK throwing a fireball constantly in the middle of nowhere. lol

TL;DR so if this is was already said, apologies, but good info :P
_ _ _ _

Thing to remember is that this game is CPU bound. Your Graphics card will always be important, but you will notice that this game will put a lot more load on your CPU than most games typically would. (general statement.. don’t jump down my throat)

That being said, I would recommend upgrading both as they are going to impact performance the most for this game. If you don’t have the money for that right now, you can try some tweaks such as un-parking your cores, ending processes/services that are not needed. Running something like resource mon will tell you a lot of where your resources are going to. Heck ive even seen some people go old school and end “explorer.exe” to free up some resources.

EDIT: I don’t know if this is still viable.. but when the game first came out people were reporting that running the EXE in compat. mode for XP helped them (I haven’t confirmed it as I didn’t have that issue)

Is there somewhere I can read up on GW2 terminology?

And the order of rarity for items from least to greatest is Blue, Green, then Yellow?

white, blue, green, yellow, orange, red

:P

I tried seeing if there was someone on the net that had a “list” for you, but only found it for GW1 and there are quite a few changes since then. I am sure that one will be made eventually.

One thing in this game is that you can always ask in game and no one will say you are stupid like most MMOs. If someone says they are looking for group for CM story or something like that.. feel free to just ask

thanks alot for the quick reply. i find them really good in WvW because of their AOE and thats what i love :O! i just felt like when i went underwater in the asura zone i was getting owned and was doing very little damage

I find myself not being a huge fan of the underwater fighting as Ele as well… but it is manageable. Most of the time I try to focus more on support when I am doing underwater because of that :\

Damaskinos.7150

When playing by yourself and leveling in PVE, I have found 2 daggers to be the most viable/fun (that is IMO of course) but It was a very big change for me that I loved. Lower levels all you need to stack into is power and then precision. You will start to notice more damage around the 15-20 levels. For most, that is when it really becomes fun. Rocked out dual daggers since then and never looked back! (except during like DEs I switch to staff for ranged AOE)

Overflow - how

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Damaskinos.7150

Damaskinos.7150

There are generally going to be more people in those areas because most people are right around that level range and want to check out dungeons. Anet has said they expected this and we should expect to see less overflow as the character levels even out a bit.

Always found that this was a very good “general” covering:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lore

To more specifically address your “Kryta, Ascalon” question, During the time of the “Guild Wars” humans basically split into different regions. Ascalon is where you came from in GW1 before it was taken back over by the Charr (that is their main area in GW2 now). You left Ascalon after the “Searing” (Charr wiping everything there). Actually a pretty interesting read though, I recommended reading the whole thing very much. Kryta was another region that was offering refuge, but the king of Ascalon declined, so his son did it anyway (he is the main guy you work with in the game)

CPU upgrade - make much difference for FPS?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Damaskinos.7150

Damaskinos.7150

Like the others have been saying, make sure that if you change one component on your system you know if you have to change something else as well. Keep in mind that this game (like most MMOs such as WoW) are CPU bound and, more often than not, CPU upgrades are going to give you much better performance. I have assisted others with this game in particular that have had 200$-300$ graphics cards and, because their CPU is older, they are getting constant 70% cpu usage and averaging 15-20 FPS with CTDs (Crash to Desktop). If you plan on upgrading your computer for this game, make sure you do it properly!

Major cities. In Queensdale there is one in the Township of Claypool as well. Google yourself a map and look for the icons if you don’t already have them showing.

Altoholic former WoW player: help me choose a profession

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Damaskinos.7150

Damaskinos.7150

I’m not sure if you tried it yet, but you can actually test your professions as a level 80 character with access to all your skills and weapons (minus racial skills). When your character is done with the starting instance, press H and click the last tab on the left. Enter the mists and you’ll be taken to the PvP lobby where you will be leveled to 80 while in there, with access to all your skills, and you can obtain weapons for free from the weaponsmith NPC. This area is essentially a training ground for PvP players, but it can help you test drive a bunch of your skills and traits.

When you first arrive in the mists, go across the courtyard and up the stairs on the other side to use the portal that takes you to the main lobby. In the hall of memories area, you will find NPCs who will give you equipment for free, so feel free to use those to test drive your main skills.

I hope this helps!

This is something that is very helpful. I ran into the same issue myself and found that watching some youtube videos helped me out. This game is very different from WoW, so as everyone is saying, it is hard to compare. I found that looking at the weapon skills (mainly) and utility skills for each class really helped me decide what to play as.

I don’t have a high level necro yet, but from what i have seen you can still do a “Minion Master” build like in GW1, it just doesn’t work the same exact way. If so though, you should really enjoy it. MM was extremely fun in GW1 and very very good in PVE. Google some good “MM” builds for GW2 and see how you like it.

End Game at 80?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Damaskinos.7150

Damaskinos.7150

I don’t have a level 80 yet, but just try keep in mind that the game just released, I am sure priority is not end game right now for the handful that are there. Just don’t let anything turn you off to the game in general. Being an avid fan of GW1, if they keep the trend on this game, they will be very good about having “end game content” .(and not just midless dribble for something to do either) Just my 2 cents

INB4 “That is not what he asked for noob!”.. i know.. I was just saying to keep it in mind.

A question regarding 'Style Sets'

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Damaskinos.7150

Damaskinos.7150

Have been wondering this myself as well since “Costumes” in GW1 worked the same way. This would be great to know from someone that has purchased any of the sets. (One thing I will just mention in case anyone didn’t notice is that you have a heavy, medium, and light armor. Don’t make the mistake of buying heavy armor skins for your light armor player, even though it shows the preview )

Translation = is this game going to have “WoW” raids at the end that is all you needed to say man.

From what I have read, I don’t think there are any plans for a “RAID” system in this game (someone has an update, feel free to correct me). Personally I think that is a good decision on their part if you look at the thought process behind it (not going to type it all up, google it, there is plenty of discussion). With Dungeons in the game (not dynamic events.. ) I don’t see a 20 man RAID working very well in GW2

Will we ever only have 9 skill slots?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Damaskinos.7150

Damaskinos.7150

Or for anyone that played GW1. hundreds of skills but you had to pick the few that worked together really well and use them. I always preferred it to something like WoW. A lot more build options and you really have to take the time to look at the synergy of your skills you choose rather than spamming what ever one looks cool. A lot more skill and thinking involved

Guildwars 2 Pve and how guildwars 1 pve was

in Players Helping Players

Damaskinos.7150

You can’t really compare the two, GW1 was VERY different from this game. Having played GW1 a lot I can tell you that there was always something to do and was very challenging, but again, it was a completely different style of game. It is pretty early in release to get a lot of information on end game content for GW2, main focus is not going to be on end game right now. Just enjoy the game at the pace you would like to. Based off of GW1, I can tell you that Anet is VERY good about giving you additional content within reasonable time and always having something exciting to do rather than “hitting the wall” at max level.

EDIT: There are currently 8 dungeons in GW2, but they can be played in multiple ways allowing for up to 32 different variations of the dungeons. With scaling, you should never run out of things to do, even right now
