It kinda seems like you hate the game, y’know… if you despise pretty much every change that it’s gone through in the last year or two, then why are you even still playing?

I feel the same. When I first heard about celestial I decided to make it purely because I was playing a guardian at the time, and the name ‘celestial’ seemed fitting… and then I looked up how to make it…

Needless to say, I didn’t bother.
At the very least, the exotic set shouldn’t be timegated… and/or should be tradeable.

Too much condi cleanse?

DelusionsOfGrandeur.9287

If anything, we need A LOT more cleanses, not less. You have to nuts to want less in this meta.

What class are you playing?

I main a mesmer, and excluding bonuses from traits, I have access to four different cleansing skills. I have more cleanses than I have utility slots to fit them in. I’d say there’s plenty available to choose from.
If condi damage bothers you so much then try playing a class with more ability to counter it. We really don’t need any more cleansing; condi builds are already harder to pull off than meta builds (hence why they aren’t the meta ones) without making every class as un-conditionable as mesmers.

Have you ever tried helping out with the pre for, say, fire ele?
There are about ten times as many players as there are mobs. Even with only a fraction of those contributing to the pre, the mobs still die less than a second after they spawn.

I always used to try and get the little bit of extra XP from help with the pre, but to be honest, it just isn’t worth the effort of trying to land a hit.

DelusionsOfGrandeur.9287

Really? That’s interesting.

I’m not particularly sure why it would have an effect on the game, though; all it does is replace your character model with a new one. On top of that, none of the regular tonics have been nerfed like this, only the watchknight one.

Is it possible that that change could have come about for the same reason I suggested in my previous post? Does WoW have a cash shop, and if so then was that item something bought on it, or something that could be acquired without spending real money?

Combat Transformations 'Suggestion'

DelusionsOfGrandeur.9287

Okay, I’ve been having a think about this today, and let me start off by apologising for the tone of my first comment. I had just wasted 25 laurels and 15 gold on an utterly worthless item, and so was – fairly, I think – more than a little upset.

With that said, I’m fairly sure I’ve pinpointed the reason behind this move by Anet… and actually, in retrospect, it really seems both quite obvious and perfectly understandable.

Any transformation effect which could truly be maintained indefinitely (in and out of combat) would steal sales from the gem store.

Right now, people wanting to customise their characters (myself included) will often buy skins or outfits from the gem store, and some optimistic individuals might even purchase the dye packs for gems as well, hoping to get given something half decent.

Because the Watchknight tonic is a) not purchased from the gem store, and b) undyeable, that eliminates both of these potential sources of income.

Having taken this into account, I would like to suggest adding the watchknight and any future infinite combat tonics to the store, much as outfits are, rather than tying them to in-game content or to the laurel vendor. This would allow a profit to be made from them, and, since they would then be bringing in a profit, that hideous 30-minute cooldown could then be removed from them, without having to worry about losing sales.

And if you’re worried that that might annoy some players, who may prefer getting them for free, then you could always just release the regular cooldown-included versions with the content, whilst selling an ‘unlimited’ version on the store… or possibly just some sort of item which, when applied a combat tonic, permanently removes the cooldown (this way ensuring both that money is made for you, and that those willing to spend money can’t necessarily get their hands on the content any easier than those who aren’t).

To any devs who may stumble across this post; I know that you must have a lot going on right now, with HoT coming ever closer to being released and all, but please do consider my proposition; combat tonics offer a potentially amazing amount of character customisation, and should not be cast aside so lightly;

Want to play a Skrit? A Dredge? A Hylek? A Tengu? A Kodan…? Even something as epic as a Largos or one of these new ‘Exalted’ (who may or may not be Mursaat in disguise)? Combat tonics have the potential to allow this, without having to wait for a dozen or so expansions, and for the devs to design an enormous amount of new content to accommodate any new races which might potentially be included in the game at some unspecified point in the future.

The armour sets and outfits are great, certainly, but combat tonics could potentially be far, far better if you would just allow them the opportunity. I know that I, at least, would be willing to pay many more gems for something like that than for any other outfit or armour set.

And if you’re not yet swayed by anything I’ve mentioned so far then consider this; these tonics are even (comparatively) easy to make! True, you’d need to assign motions for all of the different attacks/skills which could be used, but the models themselves are all already in the game, so unlike with outfits, no more new designs would necessarily need to be created to accommodate them.

TL;DR – Combat tonics being put on the gem store would mean that the 30-minute cooldown could be removed from the items, since it wouldn’t matter if people chose to use them constantly, and therefore had no need of skins and outfits; if the tonics themselves were being paid for in gems anyway, then Anet would still make a profit.

I just bought the infinite watchknight tonic from a laurel vendor today. 25 laurels and 15 gold isn’t cheap, and on top of that, it comes with the handicap of not being useable in WvW… for some inexplicable reason.

Still, no problem, I thought. It’s like the Potion of Ascalonian Mages, only infinite. For the first time, I can stay transformed permanently!

Can anyone guess where I’m going with this yet?

WHY!? WHY WOULD YOU INTENTIONALLY RUIN SOMETHING SO AWESOME ANET!?

It has a duration of 5 minutes… and a cooldown of half an hour.
Why!? =’(

It’s a purely cosmetic item – basically just a better version of wearing an outfit. So why limit it in such an absurd, pointless way?

I for one would like to suggest that any future combat tonics (or any other kinds of tonics, for that matter) not be so stupidly hindered. If that means putting them on the gem store then so be it, but please just don’t put such arbitrary limitations on otherwise awesome items.

A Tome of Knowledge used on a level 80 hero gives you one Spirit Shard.

Which means that a Tome is worth a Shard… so should the reverse not also be true?

I get that a lot of people like the shards, because they can be used for making legendaries… but to be honest, I tend not to bother with those. They’re good and all, I’m sure, but IMO they seem like way too much effort… so I’d love another way to spend spirit shards.

Personally, I think it would be great if we could buy the tomes from Miyani using shards in the same way that we can with Writs of Experience.

Heck, I’d even be willing to exchange them for Writs, which only one level per 20… seriously, I don’t use the forge at all, and all they’re good for is forging things… and yet I keep getting handed them as a reward for doing the dailies. =(

An option to exchange them for gold would also be a good alternative, if you don’t like the idea of giving away Tomes. Or Laurels. Anything that is capable of being useful without requiring the Mystic Forge, really.

So, the Deluxe and Legendary versions of HoT have a whole bunch of cool bonus stuff, alongside the base game, though they cost significantly more.

My question is, when you pre-purchase one of these bundles, do you receive the additional items (e.g. the bonus character slot & the gems) immediately… or do you have to wait for HoT to launch?

I ask because I’ve run out of gems, and am trying to decide whether to get the legendary version of the game, or whether I should just buy the standard/deluxe one…

I don’t normally buy such large numbers of gems at once, but it sounds like a really good offer… if I have to wait months to get them, though, I might just give it a miss.

Thanks.

ANet wanted specific roles for classes; your role is portals, veils, projectile reflection, condition cleansing, boon stripping, quickness, pulls and ranged pressure in WvW. Just because you dislike that doesn’t mean the game is broken in any way.

You know, as much as I love them, I’ve always felt that mesmers were somewhat underpowered compared to… well, every single class other than mesmers. When you put it like that, though, they seem pretty awesome.

Instead of having a Gold – Gems system like we do currently, we have the ability to list Gems on the BLTC. You buy Gems with your hard earned hard currency and then you can sell it to people in the game for Gold. Chances are you would get a similar transaction rate (give or take some change) and you would get your Gold. They would get their Gems.

I also argue for removing gold to gems and then being able to sell gems on the trading post. This would look like buying materials, instead of buying 100 copper ore you are buying 100 gems for x amount of gold.

Nice idea. Obviously the instant this system was implemented you’d get a whole storm of complaints from people insisting that it was proof that Arenanet hated its players… but then, that seems to happen with every single update anyway, so I suppose it’d be no big deal.

So yeah, I’m also behind this idea.

Then just buy the trait. A few gold/skill points really isn’t that much, you know. Yeah, if you buy every single trait then it’ll cost a lot, but just decide on a build beforehand and stick to it. Assuming you’ve been completing the skill challenges in each map, you should have plenty of points to spare by the time you reach 30.
It’s fairly obvious that the main purpose of the new system is to get rid of excess skill points, after all.

Some of these sound like good ideas (the black lion chest stuff, for example), but other things… this makeover kit+ idea, for instance, is impossible without a major overhaul of the character creation system, which I highly doubt would be a profitable investment given the few extra gems they’ll make out of it.
And on the subject of gems – you repeatedly suggest dropping prices on all sorts of things, which I don’t see working out very well. Honestly, right now most of the gem store prices aren’t that bad, what really stops people from buying is just a general dislike of microtransactions, rather than not being able to afford the exorbitant sum of £8.50 (or $10.00, whatever). So cutting those costs won’t help.

Well, I believe that Megazergers and LS are already working as intended for the “kids from Starbucks” target audience.

  • Arenanet needs to stop tailoring the Whole Game to casuals. Casuals already plenty for their casual needs. Casuals dont stick around for long Anet, hardcore players do.

Do hardcore players spend money in the gem store? Because I do, and I’m definitely casual. If not then hardcore players aren’t really worth catering to, since unlike WoW, this game does not require a monthly subscription, but is instead bought as a single purchase. If you’re not going to pay them repeatedly then you give Anet no incentive to listen to you any more than they would to a casual player who got bored and quit a week after buying the game – you have both earned them equal profits, after all.
They are a business, y’know.

I’m not sure if a fix is possible for that. My internet is bad too (though thankfully not that bad) so I can understand what you mean, but it just seems to be a case of your connection not being capable of processing quickly enough the huge amount of data present due to all those extra players… if that’s the case then there’s nothing the devs can do for you.

I’m not sure whether this is true or not, but I’ve heard that aside from the LS teams, there is also another group at Anet who’re working on some longer term content, which will presumably be permanent and tie into the main story (and therefore will most likely be dragon-related).

That said, I certainly wouldn’t object to the suggestion that there’s an LS event in which a dragon ruins an area and/or invades it with an army of minions, since that sounds like an epic idea. And as for this;

At the least, have an Elder Dragon decimate a zone for pete’s sake…

I vote they annihilate Lion’s Arch, the most overused city in the world and leave it destroyed for at least a year in real time.

Well, while I seriously doubt that’ll ever happen, I for one would find it hilarious… though only because I never bother with Lion’s Arch myself (I much prefer Rata Sum to any of those disorganised and haphazard bookah cities), I imagine that everyone who uses the mystic forge would be somewhat annoyed at that.

Mounts

in Suggestions

Posted by: DelusionsOfGrandeur.9287

DelusionsOfGrandeur.9287

I believe that we should have mounts. Not necessarily because I particularly care about getting one (though I probably would eventually), but simply for realism. AreaNet are making a big deal out of creating a “live” world, and I’m glad they are, since it make the game so much more believable. The lack of mounts is one of the factors which detract from this believability; it simply doesn’t make sense that, all across the entire continent of Tyria, not one person has ever had the idea of riding an animal. Ever.

For the reason of realism, I also think that mounts should give speed boosts as well (assuming that the mount in question is capable of faster movement than a person’s, of course), but even if they were implemented without those, it would still be a good thing just having them there.
