Fixing Deathly Chill: Aura Based Damage.

Personally when i first seen this trait I thought it might use power instead of condition damage. It just felt like it was ment for power builds. As it is now it suffers from what terror suffers from, But far more. Honestly it is a really good idea and i hope it see it being improved.

At its current state other players are a hindrance to us. Considering the whole game is designed around the opposite, Its a badly designed trait. The amount of random chills being applied actually means that we rarely get much chill damage off.

Im all for a change to radiate damage to enemies with chill on them within 600 range. not only will that mean necros can stack the trait for extra damage but other allies can help by getting there chills on a target. However they will never really know if there helping.

As for losing ranged pressure with this change, you need to remember chill is still chill. they are slowed and worse have longer cool downs.

That person farmed the CoF p1 dungeon to max out hes core tyria masteries. He only went up 3 ranks because he leveled one of the maguuma masteries to its level 2 state (costing 3 points)

Your playing the way anet intended (IMO) and your doing just fine. from the advise we give to the new players, take your time and enjoy the content. You will only get one chance at experiencing the game that way as as soon as your masteries are unlocked it will become different

There is one in each region of tyria. The kryta one is bugged and stays in the town of garenhoff (kessex hills bottom right), also has no symbol. Maguuma wastes is its own region and only includes silver wastes and dry top. They are viable from the map, the symbol looks like a normal vendor symbol only alittle bigger.

The first few days they sold zealots recipes, thats why they have come down from 9-10g each to around 1g. The pact scouts item is great for getting free map rewards, I got 3 charged lodestones today. The first one is a random recipe, and yes you can get stuff you already have so i dont know how much that ones really worth.

No they did say we can play it if we did world completion, but they didn’t say to what extent we could. They have now confirmed 60 points will unlock the elite. So while we can “play” the spec it wont be optimal.

I am trying to recall a single MMORPG where an expansion handed out everything you expected to get with it up front, rather than making you earn it. I can’t think of a single one, and this sense of entitlement just truly baffles me.

Entitlement?

We were told what to expect. People planned for that and did the work asked of them. Whether you liked it or not we knew the upper boundary.

Then they changed it. Not us.

What? They did not change anything since they have not until now given a number.

They stated world completion was the max. Until the datamine of 170 most people were assuming 100 HPs would be a good number to guess at. When we saw the 170 (which again many did not believe) and the progression for a typical profession I realized I could not get everything right away but about 120 would give me a good starting build.

Can you source that? Because i don’t think they said that, I think assumptions were made. That being the case, if they DID change that, because I won’t swear they didn’t, I have the following thoughts on that:

1. It IS uncool to change the info this late in the game. So if they said different before now, then yeah, I agree it’s uncool.

2. However, sometimes changes have to be made, for whatever reason: health of the game, technical issues, other stuff. It’s highly unlikely they are changing things just to make things a pain in the rear for us.

Wanna know something? I kinda thought we would have our elites unlocked if we had done all the hps in the core world, and I would have preferred it that way, so I could use my elites fully at the very beginning of HoT. That being the case, though, I don’t consider this a bad thing.

My problem is the massive rage we are seeing here. The sheer levels of it is ridiculous. If someone said “I’m not happy with this,” I could understand, but people are just burn-the-building-down angry, and it’s flat out unreasonable.

I do not recall the URL offhand but anet specifically said we could run the new content with elites if we had world completion.

Yes that’s correct. But… that was also around the time they stated you needed an additional 65 HPs to unlock the new core spec system. So basically anybody with World Completion were home free when they eventually release the Elite specs. But when they changed it so that just leveling to 80 would give you enough Hero Points to unlock core traits & utilities with no need for the additional 65 points, the whole “World Completion will unlock everything including elite specs” statement went out the window.

Thought they said that doing world completion would go along way to unlocking all of your elite spec. When did it change to unlocks everything? Ether way I’m glade I get to play the game in a way that lets my character grow, In a way that lets me slowly become a Reaper. I honestly dont want “hay look a jungle” and then “think I’m just going to pick up this great sword now and swing it at things”

Well you’re out of luck. It will literally only take 60 HPs for any Necro to “pick up that Great Sword and start swinging”. Sure, you don’t get all the traits to really make the Great Sword shine right off the bat. But the Great Sword’s 5 skills will still be unlocked for you to have fun with.

kind of mine point. that exactly what i want

I’ll simplify it for you.

I wanted to play the new content as my Herald.

Not play the new content to get a herald at the end.

Ok lets take this example.

You want to play Herald in HoT this means you’re starting a NEW Rev, right?

You now need to level it (with tomes or regularly), by leveling you GAIN Hero points.

You reach 80 having SAVED enough Hero points to unlock Herald’s skills, traits etc.

You now SPEND those Hero points on Herald mechanics.

Congratulations you now get to play HoT as a Herald.

You are required to unlock ALL other trait lines completely before you are allowed to put a single point into elite.

This was made absolutely and painfully clear by Colin himself.

If I could ignore trait lines I don’t want then I wouldn’t really have nearly as much an issue with the current setup, because I could take one complete elite build of my choice to start with.
Then as I explore the jungle I pick up more points and can experiment with other traits as I unlock them.

So I take my new rev (since It’s impossible to make one until Friday it kinda has to be a new one now doesn’t it?)
Insta 80 with tomes, and now I have to spend most of those hero points on traits I don’t currently want.
How many does that leave me with?
Cause it takes 60 just to unlock the Herald at all.

I just tombed a necro to 80. still in queensdale and all skills and trait lines unlocked. you will have 0 HP remaining after so youll need to get 6 of the HP in maguuma to unlock you herald

Unlocking your elite spec is a training line in your training panel that costs hero points. You do need to have trained all the existing training lines before you’re allowed to put hero points into your elite spec.

If you’ve got all the hero points in the existing game you’ll have enough to train about half the elite specialization training line on launch day. The rest you’ll need to earn in the jungle or via the new system Tyler outlined yesterday from WvW. The number of points to fully train your elite spec is higher than other training lines – but hero challenges in the jungle are worth 10 points each, so it’s not actually as big as it appears.

I’m sitting on 200 hero points on my characters that have done world completion. So that means about 400 points for an elite. Im guessing about 360 points. Will i get most of the abilities and traits first and then the items/skins on the second half?

Hydro vs Chill

in Necromancer

Posted by: Dhampyr.2813

Dhampyr.2813

You have to remember that chill has a stack limit of 5 and is replaced when a longer chill is applied. Make sure that if your taking chilling that you have the highest condi damage possible. Otherwise hydro is better. If you have bitter chill you end up with a bit more vulnerability on 5 targets. If your running chilling darkness the sigil of mischief could also be an option.

Just wanted to say that this is not how it works. If you apply a longer chill to a capped 5 stack it just does nothing, it doesn’t knocked off shorter chills.

The limit really just needs to go away.

Also hydro is just an AOE around you like geomancy is? and does hydro stack with geomancy?

Could’ve sworn it worked like that. Means our deadly chill trait just got really bad in groups. Thought one of the reasons they removed the caps on things was so condi uses didn’t hate seeing each other. I don’t think chill should be uncapped, It would be way to strong uncapped.

Unholy martyr is one of our traits. We are selfish so this idea wont work. Unholy martyr is a great example of how we selfishly support our allies, it pulls condis off our allies but the real aim was to live longer.

Killing ourselves is in no way selfish. If the skill in question was a blast that throws all condis on allies onto enemies behind them it would probably feel more at home. Could even throw health out from closer enemies onto allies behind while were at it. Versatile skill that needs allies (or minions) and is only helping because we want to kill the enemies.

To me the elites are more options to the “core” classes, and I’ll use them as such. If any one encounter would be better suited to me running a reaper, I’ll Put on my reaper traits. Its the same as skills, if I need a projectile block I’ll equip one.

I don’t think the elite specs were ment to replace base classes, only to give more options. And I like that I’m forced to play a dragon hunter to get that bow. Think of the point when we have 6 elites for each class. Sooner or later the warrior is going to run out of weapons to use. With this system the Warrior can have a staff with two different elite specs using different skills.

To be honest the lack of sigil swapping ability on them means my sigil of generosity will probably be stuck in my incinerator for a long time. The stat swapping ability is however really cool.

As one of the players that has the title I hope that others can get it with other legendaries as well. I say that because if I had the option to do it again I’d craft the new dagger that’s coming instead. After all if I wanted two incinerators at that point I could just reskin the new legendary to what I wanted.

2nd. A penalty for missing your burst skill, valid augment as a nerf to the spvp warrior.

3rd. Are you normally being hit by 6-11 CCs in spvp? If so they should of used boon strip or waited for the stacks to fall off, not CC spam you when you have stability. I fail to see this as a nerf at all in spvp and is very much not a nerf to the warrior.

If anything ppl are now wasting there CC on stability because it can be ripped off, unless there using it on lich or tornado form its just waste.

[PvP] Shrouded Removal is Amazing

in Necromancer

Posted by: Dhampyr.2813

Dhampyr.2813

I really like shrouded removal for power builds because they really have the most to fear from those immob spamming builds and they usually don’t last as well with condis. I like staff mastery more on condi builds because I use soul marks and it helps to get the extra life force. This is especially true at the start of the match.

If you like shrouded removal so much you should try out the sigils that give back conditions. I think they’re called generosity. I’ve found that those have been really fun in pvp. They are not really necessary but it can be really useful.

Are you sacrificing master of terror for soul marks? not sure that’s the best idea unless you have 6 in spite…. still even then your losing some good cc duration… and sacrificing points in curses For dm traits….. for staff… play what you like I suppose but eventually I think every necro figures out our place in pvp is +1 bursting the living kitten out of people.

You really don’t need master of terror to burst people down. I generally have no issues. With my build I can keep myself up while being focused so the team doesn’t need to keep me alive. I feel like that is well worth the trade off. I also run a much tankier than average spectral build though.

What exactly is the build you are running? From your first comments I though it was condi, but your saying spectral build…. so not condi? Or is it condi without terror? or are you just calling it spectral while taking no spectral traits? Or do you forego one of the only reasons to be a condi necro in Corrupt Boon?

If your build is so tanky then I’m guessing your burst is pretty much nil.

Everyone eventually figured out our role is +1 bursting people down. You’ll figure it out too =)

I’m not really sure how you didn’t know how to use condi and spectral skills together. The two are not mutually exclusive. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNArYWjc00bb5NG3wfbighSqWI6GIAOXq/iroJA-TZQZAAQZAA
I say spectral because I’m using a spectral trait(not both to be fair) and 2 spectral skills. Not really worth using spectral attunement in pvp. Hard to give up on terror.

That looks like a really solid build. mind if i ask what you use for sigils and runes?

Anyways as for shroulded removal. I find it to be a really useful trait and as stated before I find it normally removing fear or immobilize from me. Ill be disappointed if we end up getting resistance instead of removing a condition. Boon duration just does not feel like it will ever be a priority for necro builds. But I guess for the sake of build diversity we could use it.
