I don’t understand why people complain about a lottery system. Do you go and complain to 649 or whatever lottery when you don’t win anything (or less than you started with)? People are kittening because they ‘spent real money’. Did anyone twist your arm? Is this item something that will prevent you from winning the game, or make it less enjoyable? Come on. They even gave you a second chance, or a chance to recover some of the costs. STILL COMPLAINING?

ANet never said any of it will be ‘widely available’. It was always presented as a ‘chance to’, which to me in any MMO has always meant “haha you’re screwed” but at least you can craft a permanent skin with mats, or profit on those making skins if you aren’t planning to. Whining about it is just childish.

I do the bees part in TA fw up path (or w/e that one is with vevina) naked. Because they oneshot you no matter what, and unless you’re feeling particularly lucky that day, or have that path down to a T, you WILL die.

if you trait for minion master and vampiric master, you can pretty much never worry about getting in trouble as you level (keep a staff as one of your weapon sets to drop a regen on them from time to time… then nuke with whatever your other weapon set you have specced). easily one of the most faceroll professions to level with.

PS i do agree minions are far less useful in groups (dungeon or DE) since they have horribad ai, tend to randomly pull stuff, dont always attack what you want etc etc.
For those cases I go condition/wellmaster to either aoe tag better or help my group with darkfields.

It’s less about measuring a particular effect in isolation and more about “what did this skill do when you used it at this particular time ”. Regeneration is meh for single large hits, but aegis is amazing (so is timing blast finishers on water fields or any direct group heal). Protection is meh against lots of little hits (retal is arguably better, but regen and blindness are probably best), but amazing for heavy aoe bursts that would otherwise leave several people down (or even ground aoe). Blind is not all that great against regular white swings on single mobs, but great against groups of bursty mobs or if you have to pick someone up (necro plague form is great this way). The list goes on.

I see what you mean about not having a tangible measure for some effects, but sometimes it takes a while to figure out what is really the best set of skills to use at a particular time (and it may change from scenario to scenario) which is part of the fun in this game.

What I would agree with is improving the ‘tells’ for certain abilities, because in lieu of all the particle effects (and large char/norn melees, no offense) it’s often hard to time your skills right when you can’t see what’s coming. Another possibly useful addition would be having friendly health bars and ‘aggro’ indicators.

I play an ele, guardian and necro, and I can’t always tell how effective I am, but giving a glance to my party window, I can usually plan my next few moves pretty well (condi removal, healing well/field, blind spam to get a rez on someone, etc.).

If everyone is at full health, not suffering from many conditions, and nothing particularly huge is happening, your best bet is laying on the deepz (or buffing group dps via might stacking with fire fields or whatever you have).

I don’t want a trinity. This would make GW2 into a wow clone, and I don’t want a wow clone (I thought I’d never do pve again after wow and rift, now I’m pve’ing again thx to gw2).

I would agree on 3 things

1) reduce story mode difficulty for at least the ‘problem’ fights
2) buff rewards or give incentives to actually doing story more than once (or at all)
3) MAKE ENCOUNTERS FUN. I enjoy the lack of trinity. I enjoy challenges. I do not enjoy the same generic ‘dodge x, kite, heal, pew pew and revive as needed’ reincarnation in every single kitten run. Use a rating system for bosses or something like you did in betas for the events so you get an idea. Hire someone creative for encounter design, whatever. Most of this generic kite crap is tedious

and reduce trash clearing time. there’s a reason people try to ‘speed run’, it’s because trash is neither rewarding, nor fun and just eats up time or repair bills.

overall, the only thing they could really ‘borrow’ from blizzard is a group search function (not necessarily a random matchmaker, just a better LFG tool) and better encounter design. The trinity should stay dead

Automated and cross realm LFG system in GW2?

That is what ruined Social aspect in WoW.
If the system is not queue based and is server specific only then YES.
Other wise no,no and no

server specific would be less effective because the number of people in queue is lower.

I am not entirely sure what ‘social aspect’ of WoW you are talking about, I played from BC to cata (refuse to buy MoP) and other than the various hijack/abuse gigs (tanks selling fast queues, randoms afk’ing so they can’t be kicked and getting rep/loot etc.) which are not applicable in GW2, there was very little detriment to the WoW ‘community’ if you could call it that. Do NOT pretend that LFG or even raid finder ‘destroyed’ WoW. The pathetic trash that you see in trade chat from time to time has existed long before any of this was implemented, and will continue to exist regardless (even in GW chats, although there seems to be a modicum of regulation going on).

I am not looking for an ‘auto match’ system specifically, I would even be happy if they added a ‘LFG channel’ feature or search system where you could specify which dungeons, paths, whatever it is you were looking for, preferably cross- server, and in any location. As it is now, the built-in LFG tool is near-useless.

there’s a reason it’s nigh-impossible to get groups for some of these. there’s no point, and it’s not worth the effort. I’m done it so now I can do explore, and will never go back there again.

how do you turn it off? This whole place makes me nauseated. Add in the unnecessarily long fights (Kudu oneshots, the teleporting stunning chick and the absurdly squishy Zojja vs. golem waves event…) this place is easily one of the worst (if not THE WORST) story mode dungeons ever made.

Edit: nvm, found it, wish i had found it sooner, this headache is killer. should be a ‘tutorial tooltip’ with that info upon entering the instance… >.>

Some fights are too hard, some are too easy. I’d like to see a balanced approach taken to both. I do agree that story mode overall should be pretty easy for PuGs (most of them actually are, but some particular fights are overtuned… and most of CM, that place is a nightmare now).

disclaimer: I am terrible with names, so I’ll just use boss descriptions instead, hopefully someone will know what I’m talking about.

The ‘tone down’ list:
Kudu’s golems (that fight is absurdly long).
The 4pack at the end of TA (at least make Rytlock charge and Eir multishot less often, maybe).
HoTW last boss and his birds dot, it really is quite harsh (guaranteed down if lacking a defensive cd, and if he decides to charge you thereafter, it’s 100% death).
CoF weapon summoning boss, the swords phase. If he tunnels one person, they WILL die no matter what (can’t peel, or dodge often enough).
AC lovers. Their damage output is just a tad too high.
I’ve yet to do CoE or Arah so can’t comment on those.

For ‘too easy, could use a buff’ list:
TA ‘dogs’ guy. The concept is cool, but the fight overall is just too easy.
Second last HOTW boss (the Voice) is a huge pushover. Considering the whole place is about her spoiler this fight is a bit disappointing.
CoF imps boss… is this even a boss?
CM: everything. Bosses are a joke, and trash is absurdly hard… this place is as backwards as it gets.
SE: last boss – I love LOVE the fight overall, fun mechanics, his moves hurt a LOT (but have a pretty long tell, so it’s fair) but it just seems a bit easy. Maybe buff the adds or give them a debuff they apply (like ‘increases damage taken from lava’ or something). OR make him eventually ‘melt’ the wall shields so it’s a soft enrage timer.

i see virtually 0 downsides to having an LFG tool and would love to see one in-game.

If ANet is unsure, they can do a generalized in-game poll on who’s for and who’s against it (with an optional reason field either way).

you also can’t measure cc, combo fields, avoidance effects (mass aegis or protection, stealth), and so on.

Good players will continue to be good without the need for a stat stick. If you wanted to really truly just compare a build with 2 particular weapon sets or some other very specific thing, the pvp vendors in the mists sell ‘steady’ weapons that are supposedly good for theorycrafting.

either a ‘reset points’ button that we can earn/buy/achieve

dual or more ‘preset’ specs that we can fill out as we like.
This isn’t about a trinity it’s about convenience. I don’t like having to go to LA, respec, then back to my instance every time I do a dungeon group (that in itself is about 10s at lvl80, plus time wasted).
I COULD solo in my instance build, but I don’t enjoy it, and it’s slower.

hotw story mode, two people (none of whom were ‘saved’ or anything like that) couldn’t get in to our fresh story group.

An 80 Ele only has 10k hp??? How does that happen? My necro, with the only +Vit from Blood traits, has 22k.

I do agree with the OP.
Although I don’t think you should be prevented from layering combo fields for multiple effects; blast finishers are not that common anyway (aside from the guardian hammer, but not many guardians use hammer for dungeons).
since light field effects aren’t (usually) as good as other effects, they should be considered last imo.
For all other finishers, they should have a ‘count’ on how many fields they trigger.
projectiles, 1
leap, 2-3
whirl, 1-2
blast, all or at least 3

for fields order:
water > smoke > ethereal > dark > ice > fire > lightning > poison > light
just imo
another option (a bit OT) is to change light fields effects to something more like protection or vigor; retaliation is a ‘meh’ boon in pve.

this would make for a lot more interesting combinations and better teamwork

I haven’t been able to find story runs for any dungeons in any area I’ve passed through the past few days. I now regret waiting until I’ve enjoyed exploring new maps and professions before getting into dungeons, as I fear it’s now impossible.

I have alts that are ‘ready’ for most story modes, pm me in game (I’m on most nights/weekends EST).

i don’t have a single exotic, but I’ve done several EM so far (even CM when I was 50)

Did you consider replacing them…? I mean, there would have a been a lineup of people wanting to get into a quick Arah for just the last boss to get the tokens…

they did, re-read the OP.

currently, if party leader leaves, you either get booted or (in this case due to dc, i assume) you’re stuck with what you have left as replacements will zone to a different instance.

This is my biggest issue other than end EM bosses crashing your instance (cough TA cough) since the badges-at-the-end patch.

See, that’s where I get off your rails. Games for me aren’t something I want to ‘master’ and spend boring time on, organizing things with other players or even communicating to a greater extent than “hi” and “thanks”. They’re supposed to be entertaining pixels bouncing on my screen.

There is no such thing as a melee character. There are melee weapons and ranged weapons, and every profession has access to both.

The OP is talking about SM, not EM.

Also everyone saying “just wait for CM” has obviously not run it since the ‘fixes’. It’s no longer faceroll, and in fact probably one of the harder SM instances I’ve ran because of the absurd amount of high hp, high dmg trash (and cc chains).

Overall, I feel like the difficulty of SM dungeons could be toned down considering the rewards for them are fairly inconsequential. At the very least, the sheer amount of time spent killing trash should be reduced. And yes, maybe some sort of ‘tutorial’ for first time dungeon seeker, although, so far AC seems to be pretty easy in comparison to other SM.

As people have said, there are tricks to every boss in the instance.

No trinity is one of the best things this game has.

the trinity in this game is different. It’s also much more dynamic, because not everyone is filling out 1 role. And I prefer it this way. WoW’s formulaic “raid warning, do X, follow rotation Y, use Z cooldowns at ABCD points”

It’s pretty amazing the combinations you can get in this game.

well of darkness
warhorn OH for aoe cripple/swiftness, or scepter/axe aoe cripple then have someone pop aoe swiftness (ele, guardian, warrior)

drop fear mark behind you, then chillblains
pop shroud, then grasp teleport to a husk. by this point all the dogs should be leashed.

guardians have aoe immobilize on hammer, line of warding if you can time it well.
hell even get thief or mes to pop group stealth for the first bit or if you’re feeling really creative, have him portal the group over.

personally I find it beneficial to kill the trash in case we have to run back for whatever reason.

These all combine to make runs kind of a frustration. Personally, I think if the HP and damage of trash creatures was reduced while giving them abilities that reflect boss mechanics would go a long way to solving the problem. I also think giving boss monsters slightly larger models (like how Rift or WoW did), it would eliminate the “can’t see boss animation cues” problem significantly.
