Not exactly what you’re experiencing, but I’ve done “Wintersday Cheer” 4 times now and the achievement “A Season of Merriment” hasn’t updated that at all. Definitely some glitches going around.
I love my trench coats but…I see your point. There’s not a whole lot of variety. More variety would be nice.
Tried to buy gems today and got an “An error has occurred please try again later” message. I tried again later. Same message. Tried again even later. Same message. I even sent in a ticket in game after my second try and no response 4 hours later.
Not sure what to do now. Please help!
Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou
It’s not the epic questline I was thinking would be awesome, but it is so a step in the right direction. Involving more of the world for me at least would make it feel more like a journey. I might actually go for one when this is implemented.
Before GW2 I tried to play GW1. I was confused for the most part, lost, didn’t manage to make any friends and solo’d up until I wasn’t able to anymore then wondered why the hell I was still playing this game. The plot didn’t grab me at the time either.
But I had bought the game and all the expansions together, so I thought to try out Factions. I was sold. The plot kept me going and trying as hard as I could. I wanted to know more. The city fascinated me and I began to take more and more of an interest in GW lore. I never managed to make it all the way through due to again, my confusion with the game and lack of friends in game, but I LOVE GW2 and if they brought in Cantha, I would gladly pay full price for a whole new expansion for that. It was fantastic.
Lol, not to knock your idea, I think it is neat, but it reminds me of what WoW did and makes me think overall of farmville.
But yeah, the “home” instances don’t feel like home to me. I never visit there unless I had to for a quest, and going back after I found out it specialized the area from your quest line I was well, a little underwhelmed. I wish there was more we could do with it.
Are you kidding? I want to dress up my own personal Guild Room as much as I bling out my toon. It’d be awesome. There could be features for showing off weapon and armor collections. Oh the possibilities!
You know where this idea can also go that is awesome? Pillow fights. In game pillow fights. Heck yes, I’d buy a pillow from the gem store.
Just because it happens in every MMO doesn’t mean it isn’t a problem worth fixing, I have a hard time getting into Charr because of the way the armor looks as well. Only specific sets of heavy armor even appeal to me but they are rather expensive sets.
Norn stretch but in normal ways. Charr have very different bodies from anything in the game. Their armor stretches quite awkwardly. I’ve yet to come across an armor set on my two norns that I thought looked off. But if you feel it is an issue than maybe it is something that can also be looked into.
Yeah, I don’t get why we don’t have combat staves. We only have magical staves. I’d like my warrior to be able to fight with a combat staff.
Not a bad idea at all.
But I do wanna note that not all of us think the current craftable skins are butt ugly =P
Just to be clear and to illustrate what I am talking about, the attached is Masquerade armor.
It looks like lingerie.
My friend and I have nick-named it “The Porn Bo-Peep Look”.I’m not saying ALL female armour is this bad, but that still doesn’t excuse these examples of exploitative design.
Really? You don’t think I know what it looks like? One of my good female friends has her main character wearing it. I stand by my statements.
Mungrel, I hate to say it but I think you are misinterpreting him. He’s not saying this is how it should be, he is saying that yes, some girls like this.
Not misinterpreting him; just trying to explain how we’re led to believe things are the way the are and how our world view can be shaped by society.
I’d be interested to hear if his female friends thought that there was nothing wrong with the human female Masquerade set for example. If they honestly see nothing wrong with that, there’s something drastically wrong. It’s a blatant example of “Male Gaze” design.
I Like that design (I am female), and several of my other female friends like it too. You ma’am are really super insulting women’s right to like whatever they like. You think it’s wrong that women like to see their characters online in an outfit that showed skin? How is this wrong? Who are you to judge those of us who happen to like to dress our avatars in different ways? If you read my earlier comments you’ll see that I said that defining a person by what they wear or like IS demeaning. You are demeaning those of us who happen to like that outfit.
Dolyak pet! =P On topic though, I wouldn’t mind a turtle.
I think what they meant by explorable is that after the story part is done, you go back to explore what has become of the place.
But i do like your idea regardless =)
I’ll +1 this. I’d like to be able to refresh my food buff without having to hunt for it in my bags. more of a convenience thing like that but, yeah the combat options do really need it more.
Well there are enough of these threads that I think ANET would be hard pressed to ignore them now, lol.
I mean, I don’t care either way, but it could be cute to ride a Dolyak that runs at walking speed, hee.
I see I am wasting my time debating this with you.
You wanted a response, I offered one.
I am inclined to bring out a stereotype against you based on your name to display exactly how society can program people to behave simply based on appearances.
uknortherner implies someone living north of Birmingham. Likely someone who eats a lot of fatty food, drinks excessively and is bigoted, uneducated and racist. Or on the flipside, a raging socialist who hated Thatcher, blames the Tories for destroying a way of life and plunging the north into poverty, wears a flatcap and has an unhealthy obsession with whippets. Probably smokes heavily too.Chances are, you’re nothing like that, but popular media portrayals would have people believe “It’s grim up north” and that’s the way you are.
Now imagine the media is telling you every day you have to wear this particular blouse, those particular boots, you should smell a certain way and that you should paint your face daily and wear your hair a certain way in order to fit into society. Is it beyond the realms of possibility that you may begin to believe this is the way things should be?
Heck, parents start training you for it as soon as you’re born, dressing girls in pink and boys in blue.Aren’t stereotypes fun?
Mungrel, I hate to say it but I think you are misinterpreting him. He’s not saying this is how it should be, he is saying that yes, some girls like this.
I don’t see the problem with inspection, especially if you are curious as to what people are doing with their gear and runes and so forth. It’s not so much a “I want to be the best” thing for me, but a “I am rather curious as to what that toon is doing ankittenoo shy to ask” type thing.
And, you know, a toggle option is always a smart move for those who do not wanna be peeped at.
Ok, Uknortherner, not all women have the same opinion. Just because you have a lot of female friends that like the outfits, does not mean all women are fine with them.
I never suggested otherwise. I was countering Mungrel’s suggestion that all women found the clothing offensive (and if they didn’t then they should), which they clearly don’t.
Ah, I see, I did not notice she had said all. But yeah you are right, and I absolutely see nothing wrong with people liking how their character looks.
I wonder how legendary armor would work with the legendary weapons? So many particle effects…
Another name change thread! I vote yes again!
Yes please name change! I have several toons I wish to rename and are too high level for me to justify deleting them!
I see you failed to address the little fact that I have female friends who don’t have a problem with the armour in this game. If they haven’t got a problem with it (and yes, they play the bloody game), why should you?
Hearsay and if you really want me to address it, if they really do feel that way, it’s the way society has programmed them to believe that they should see nothing wrong with being objectified.
Ok, Uknortherner, not all women have the same opinion. Just because you have a lot of female friends that like the outfits, does not mean all women are fine with them.
Mungrel: as soon as we start defining ourselves by what we wear or like, we start dehumanizing ourselves. Just because a girl likes a skimpy outfit does not mean she is “programmed” to like anything, and is less of a woman for it.
First of all, I do not find outfits that show skin “whorry” and I find the use of that word quite rude. I am a woman who personally finds certain skin showing aesthetic nice looking, beautiful, and even at times classy.
Secondly, I DO understand your complaint. Some people find outfits that do not show an excessive amount of skin far more beautiful and would like to see their characters in it. There should be more options for this. Everyone has their own tastes, and I personally would love to see something beautiful for light armor that is not revealing. one thing I love about this game is the amount of different armor looks and the ability to mix and match, but it is true that for female norns/humans there is an excessive amount of skin exposure clothing. Maybe if enough people show interest in new less revealing outfits ANET will put them in. Here’s hoping.
Also, seriously guys? Mungrul made some good points. Gaming culture does still have issues with portraying sexuality and “dehumanizing women.” It is a sensitive subject and should be taken seriously. Now, I do respectfully disagree that the outfits are oversexualizing the characters and hence making it hard to take them seriously (with the exception of a few outfits I’ve seen). I don’t think that a lot of the outfits are that bad, in fact I find a lot of them rather pretty or cool looking. Maybe it is sending the wrong message that you have to be pretty to be a hardened warrior but I also don’t compare my own life and actual reality to what is in a video game so it’s never bothered me. I know there are people that do, and they project their fantasy selves into game but this can be a healthy thing. Video games are a way for people to do things in a controlled environment that does not hurt the people in the real world and satisfies whatever itch any individual many have. Would I dress in the outfit my Elementalist has on right now? No. But I like the fact that I can run around in this outfit on a computer screen and not be judged.
So…let me get this straight. We have teleportation. Instantaneous teleportation that is perfectly safe and harmless. But we can’t make a zepplin that can travel to Cantha? I just…it kind of takes away from the world for me. Come on Asura fairy rainbow magic technology, WORK!
Now…getting Cantha to talk or trade with us and not just shoot ships down…that is the challenge. They are rather xenophobic.
“Legendary Weapons are the end result of an epic adventure in Guild Wars 2. You’ll travel all over, collecting items and amassing materials to build your Legendary Weapon.”
So make it a journey ANET. Farming is not the equivalent of an “epic adventure.” We’re not traveling all over. We’re farming the same kitten events in one area in Cursed Shore over and over and doing Fractals. Ok, world exploration yeah, sure, that counts, but the other mats? The majority BULK of the whole thing? No. This is not an epic adventure. This does not feel like an epic adventure.
If ANET really wants it to be an epic adventure they need to make some changes. They can leave World Explorer in (that was the only thing I enjoyed and it DID feel like an adventure) but if they want people to be engaged something has to give. Maybe an epic questline that is difficult enough that people can’t complete it in a month or less? Get some story in there. Make us FEEL like we really earned the weapon and have some stories to tell about it rather than feeling like we wasted a HELL of a lot of time grinding.
Wow, lots of anger and sarcasm in this thread. Kind of scary.
Now, I think you are being a bit nitpicky but then again, it’s an MMO. It’s what you make of it. If you’re not enjoying a certain aspect, you’re not enjoying it, and if you have suggestions on how to make it better sure, announce it. No problems there. I can see where it is a bit annoying to want to farm copper and all you have are mithril picks. It kind of makes one feel like they are squishing an ant hill with a car. But I personally don’t think the prices are that bad on them, and it is true that when you zone in and pick a place for farming you can go to a vendor and buy the appropriate tools then and there. It’s not a fix or anything but it might help you in the short term at least. I mean who knows maybe ANET has some changes in mind in the future?
As for your suggestion about making it like other MMOs. Eh, I see no difference. I mean, you may find it more convenient and that’s great, but to everyone who is complaining I dunno it’s all just the same time sink just disguised in different ways. I really see no actual difference between having a leveling system verses what exists now. But I will say I like getting SOMETHING from a node even if I don’t have the right tools, at least I get some coin for vendor trash.
Honestly I’d complain more about the fine crafting materials, but that’s a whole other can of beans.
I’m still toting 10 slot bags without buying any more bag space and I’ve not had a single problem. Yeah, I agree the price difference is stupidly ridiculous but overall I have to say it’s not needed. Or at least that’s been my experience.
What “force” they just want people to have fun in those areas again. You know, what games are supposed to be, fun, and not just staring sadly at the screen because you didn’t get the loot drops you want.
Well I know one reason at least, we can glitch ourselves into a wall and constantly make a location “under attack” so if an enemy has a garrison with a waypoint they can’t use it because it is “under attack”
If you have Magic Find in ANY game where there is progression and finding better gear helps (especially if higher gear salvaging gets you MUCH needed ectoplasms…) yeah, it’s going to become a requirement. I don’t know why anyone would ever think for a second that it wouldn’t become a requirement. Everyone in these games wants their shiny gear, whether it has purpose or not. I mean look at the legendarys, they have the same stats at exotics but are so cool looking people make them anyway.
I think the Diablo 3 system for magic find would work out nicely, and since magic find takes up one of the 3 main stats you get on gear it does put you at a slight dps advantage. ANET could play with that so people could think about their gear choices more carefully.
I don’t think any of us are going to convince him. Keep hoping for half dragons, they are never going to happen I am sorry to say but there’s no harm in hoping.
That…kind of sounds like a fanfic.
I mean half dragons wouldn’t be a bad idea but it doesn’t work for the lore. The dragons have been asleep for a REALLY long time, in fact most people didn’t know they existed at all until they awoke. They’re kind of old gods. They remember when humans landed in Tyria (yes humans are technically aliens though the knowledge was long forgotten). I dunno if it would make sense to have half dragons when dragons weren’t even a thing in the minds of mortals until recently.
Granted someone may have a good argument for the idea, I just don’t think it makes sense.
the reason i think it works is because the half-dragons can be like the dragons somewhat immortal and they learned a magic to turn them selves into humanoids that they were cursed with and can turn into a dragon but not be one permanently like they used to be sounds like that could fit into guild wars lore saying that this was lost tome of information the new humans and races have stumbled upon but never knew about before makes sense
You can say that about anything in ANY lore. It’s not a particularly strong argument, and I don’t think the dragons breed at all. They just exist and create things due to their nature. They are pretty much forces of nature. They didn’t learn magic, they knew it. Magic and tomes and such were introduced after they were asleep when the human gods gave humans magic. So no, a forgotten tome would not exist.
i never said they breed i said they have lesser dragons that we dont know about that decided to turn into half dragons that breed and they inherited the magic and the curse of not being full dragon
It still makes no sense since these dragons didn’t even know what humans were when they slept. I think you really need to read the lore more before making these suggestions.
could have happend after humans came
Why? They are mindless minions of the main dragons. They have no free will.
That…kind of sounds like a fanfic.

Man I can see the devs looking at this and going OMFG SO MANY NEW SKILLS WHYYYYY?!
Not bad suggestions but might mess up the current balance between professions.

So, what I am getting here is, you want the end story to be in the story (which is your own private instance), with your friends with you, killing Zhaitan…that’s um…that’s a dungeon my friend. Unless you don’t want your friends with you. I don’t see Zhaitan being defeated with just you, I mean, I for one expect other players to be needed to take him down. What is the difference between a private instance and a private instance that happens to be a dungeon?
Sighs
Okay…
To me, the difference is that every other boss-hunting instance in the Personal Story could be done with the help of the NPCs. I did it with Two-Blade Pete, I did it at Claw Island, I even did it with the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan.
I didn’t have to run Caudecus’ Manor to kill Two-Blade, I didn’t have to go to the Ascalonian Catacombs to defeat the dragon at Claw Island, and I didn’t have to go into the Crucible of Eternity to squish the Sovereign Eye.
So, why, all of a sudden, do I have to run through a dungeon before I’m allowed to face Zhaitan?
Ok, so…you want the options of being able to run it with JUST NPC’s?
I figured they were going to have it completely rebuilt in September just in time to destroy it again in October. :P
That would be HILARIOUS.
…Harder…jumping…puzzles? faints
Actually, if they made it so certain areas weren’t “guess which spot is the spot you need or you’ll glitch through” and made things a little more clear like actual platformer games do, I think that would be a good challenge.
No, this does not need to be in the game. The ability to stay alive in a dungeon is what we rate people by, not by what numbers they can do. I don’t see how this would add any challenge into the game other than a unwanted competition between players.
Making things more challenging and more fun involves improving the dungeons. We need more mechanics rather than the boss having a big health pool and a one shot skill. That’s what we’re missing, not a damage meter.
You put it perfectly.
If your fun is proving how awesome your deeps are, you’re in the wrong game. Though I hear they are adding a ranking system in PVP, so I hope that solves the itch.
-Good argument? Ok….people want mount so they can get faster from x point to y point. Nothing more, nothing less is expected from having mounts.
“Waypoints”
-Go to Orr and then say that, beside you can not ride waypoint now can you?
Touche, well done. Yeah those contested waypoints are a pain.
Yeah, but then you get hit by the swarm of Risen mobs and fall off your mount anyway, adding another layer of CC to them.
Hardly an improvement.
Hmmm, fair, can’t make Orr too easy can we?
Rangers can use the most weapons am I right? Why not give them the whole shebagn, rifles, pistols, hammers, mace…make em weapons experts too. That would be kind of neat.
No, Warriors have the most weapon options.
Oh? Well I just made a warrior so lol, guess I didn’t catch on to that!
Yeah, I agree. That would be pretty awesome. Imagine how sweet a /highfive would be!
I’m with Vaske here. Voting “no, thank you.”

Yeah, no worried on world explorer, dungeons are not required. BUT yeah, an in game dungeon finder would be nice.
