but i’m literally jumping from spot to spot still being hit, even when i try to dodge.I’m not even running around, i’m trying to move from spot to spot slow. The circles sometimes overlap leading to no safe spot, and the circles are often very close together.

Put your speed signet or use a speed trait if you are having trouble moving fast enough.

Keep as far away from other players as possible. Stand still until forced to move. Watch for the small spaces in between bombs and just stand still in them. Even if you have only a teeny little space only big enough for your character. Yes sometimes one area gets spammed, and that’s when you use your skills with protection, invulns, evades, shroud, whatever your class has if running and dodging isn’t enough to get you through it. If you’re having trouble with that part bring something extra to help you through it until you’ve got enough practice. Honestly, though usually even at high levels, dodging and healing through the spammy bits is enough once you get used to the fight.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I play mostly female toons and in all the years of playing I can only remember once or twice someone saying something. I really don’t think that’s a common problem. If you’re getting remarks, maybe you’re saying things in chat that gets people to react.

My husband and I both play all female characters (in games that give the choice) and have had this discussion many times, as we are having it right now in response to your thread.

In 20+ combined years of online gaming playing female avatars, we can count the times we’ve been hit on by random players on one hand.

Our primary driver for playing female is that their armor and body animations tend to be better done.

I usually try on outfits via the Hero Panel to see what different dyes look like… though you have to change them out on your armor which is really wonky.

Regarding shoulder pieces. I also dislike a lot of the shoulders on outfits. When helm is disabled on armor, so too is the outfit helm disabled. Why not shoulders?

Path of Fire Stress Test August 31, 2017

Dovienya.6597

Let’s see if I get this right… Guild Wars 2 players are wanted to get into game on 31 August 2017 and use demo accounts, spend hours in Path of Fire, just tot test PoF product.

Will I get payed? Will I get any rewards? Will I get anything for my time spent on testing your product or content?

From what I understand I get nothing from testing other virtual content. The demo account will be erased, and I won’t get any reward or attention from my time spent there, in that expansion. Why should I do that?! There is no fun in wasting valuable time that will be erased and forgotten later. Every second of life counts.

I am sorry, but like Benjamin Franklin said: “Time is money”. I shall not help you with my time unless you pay me.

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by.

An MMO company is not a person. People say all sorts of things all the time and mean them when they say them. Time passes and what was once true is no longer true. Colin was the game director and under his watch, that never came back….but MO never said it, and may have never even thought it.

People say Anet said something but it’s never true, because Anet has no mouth. It has 300 mouths. What someone says is only good as long as management doesn’t change, and even then circumstances can change.

I remember when Anet said an expansion wasn’t in the works and the Living Story was going to be the way forward. I always remember telling us that eye color wasn’t important enough to include in character generation and that walking would never been in the game, only running. All those things changed.

Town clothes changed too. They felt something didn’t work and they changed it.

At the end of the day, Anet doesn’t say anything ever. Individual developers say something and very likely mean it when they say it. Nothing is law or set in stone, because circumstances change. Hell in real life even laws change.

Sometimes it sucks when it happens, but this is one instance where I’m in favor of the change.

This attitude would be the quickest way to the closest conyon for the largest majority of companies. It would be like:
“Well, the developer said so to sell stuff and because he meant it because we promised him so. But screw him, we do what we want as a company.”
Not only is this massively cynical, it would make all involved people look like dorks. so either gag the developers or put out only serious information about the product.

If said developer makes such a statement on reddit or another inofficial forum, it is nearly excusable and makes just the company look like fools because the left hand has no idea what the right hand does. But if this happens on Gamescon or anything resembling a PR event, it is a sign of a trigerhappy management who either bit more that they could stomach or just made a false advertisement.

Actually this isn’t true, because MMOs aren’t like most products. MMOs are services. You’re not paying for a program, you’re paying for access to a world. That’s how it works.

I have had favorite rides at Disneyworld that have closed. It happens. Things change over time.

Most games dont’ have an over time, or at least didn’t. When I buy a driving game two years later, it’s pretty much the same game. Maybe some new tracks or new cars, but the game doesn’t fundamentally change. This isn’t true of MMOs and anyone that’s played a lot of MMOs would know this.

I can think of tons of reasons why something would change from what someone said. If I ran a health spa and I said I was going to put in a new machine and you were interested in it, but no one else used it, I’d take it out, even if it kittened you off. Because there’s limited room in the spa, and the machine wasn’t getting use. That’s probably why the Twilight Arbor forward/up path was replaced. Not enough people running it.

At the end of the day, an MMO is an ongoing thing, a world that changes. Have you looked at the difference between WoW when it launched and WoW now? Or Rift? Or SWTOR, or Age of Conan, or TSW, or Lotro or DDO, or Star Trek Online? They’re all vastly different games. And stuff any company says can change over a period of years.

That statement made by Colin was made five years ago. But this is true in the business world too. Once you see under new management sign anywhere, changes can happen. A new CEO takes over a corporation and that company can move in a new direction. It happens all the time.

Not sure how wise it is to put your faith in two paragraphs from a forum post from a single person in an ever changing world.

It’s been a while since I farmed dungeons, but wasn’t forward/forward the pain path no one ran? Spider/Bees were frequently speed-farmed paths back when that was a thing, I find it hard to believe it was the least run dungeon path in the game… which as a matter of fact IS the Anet-quoted reason for replacing it.

I suppose the lesson of this thread is take Arenanet quotes with a grain of salt.

Can't use desired name

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

it is actually a reference as to what he says, its his name spelt out as he says it but it is not his actual name. i named a char after my acc name and that got /reported and banned.

Part of the TOS naming rules involve not using a real life person’s name, or a copyrighted literary character’s name, and includes not attempting to misspell or disguise the name.

I remember someone going through an issue like this around launch. That person had a Sylvari character named some variant spelling of Katniss. There was a reddit post where an Arenanet employee answered questions about naming rules, and people could ask whether or not theirs was acceptable. I don’t recall what the outcome was for Katniss, maybe they’re lurking on the forums and can tell us, but their argument was that the name belonged to a plant before it volunteered as tribute.

How do I get to Maguuma Wastes?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dovienya.6597

Dovienya.6597

There are three Maguuma regions on the map that consist of individual, playable zones. They are Maguuma Jungle, Maguuma Wastes, and Heart of Maguuma.

Maguuma Jungle consists of the Sylvari and Asura starting areas (Caledon Forest and Metrica Province) and the Brisban Wildlands. If you’ve never been to the Brisban Wildlands you can get there by passing through the starting zones outside Rata Sum or the Grove.

The Brisban Wildlands is adjascent to both Dry Top and The Silverwastes, of which consist the Maguuma Wastes.

The Silverwastes are adjascent to Verdant Brink, which is the first Zone of the Hot Expansion, and the beginning of the Heart of Maguuma. You have to purchase the expansion to enter it.

If go into your Hero Panel and click on the first story part to LS2, and HoT, they’ll lead you where you need to go.

I would buy it twice as fast if there were a way to make custom outfits out of armor pieces and use transmutation charges up as currency. I would spend hours making custom outfits separate from stats out of all my favorite pieces to save for later.

I also was expecting a thread on the underworld.

I like underwater combat in GW2, but like many of Anet’s endeavors, its ambitious but unfinished and ultimately being pushed to the side. They seem to be trying to cover up and neaten the underwater that exists, specifically the removal or replacement of water from some maps, or removal of maps that have water entirely) and FINALLY fixing some of the utility skills that did not work in water (wells) while launching the specializations with well skills that don’t work underwater :/ or have unfinished underwater skills and traits, period. Aside from removal and little fixes, they seem to be not really addressing most of the serious existing issues… and instead be phasing out UW, something somewhat endemic to the game’s systems and features in general.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dovienya.6597

You also have to unlock every other specialization (and I think even skills) before you can start unlocking the elite spec.

You get enough skill points to do this by hitting 80. In fact, you don’t even have to do it manually with the boost to 80, it unlocks everything for you.

In order to start using the elite spec, all you you need to do is equip it in the bottom trait slot.

I just brought a brand new lvl 2 character straight out of the newb story to lvl 80 and slotted her elite spec.

EDIT:

Self Correction. You can do this (equip the elite spec right away after hitting 80) with boosted characters only. (Unless you previously acquired the necessary Hero points.)

The revenant I just made and boosted was able to equip its elite spec right away. The only other character I had not leveled to 80 and had enough hero points to equip an elite spec is my ranger, though I’ve had that character for years I have not played it much… she is level 80 and has all the base skills unlocked but still requires more Hero Points to unlock/equip the elite specialization.

However, the training of elite specs requires acquiring Hero Points which you can do at any time, whether you have the elite specialization slotted or not.

Hmmm. It makes no sense for a ceo to step on a public forum to tell them players what will not be done. It would have been easier to just release new story and keep people busy with the story until time for 1-2 more legendaries would be found to release some more legendaries. Noone here would have said anything. I bet out of the 41 pages of this thread 40 pages of players would not have even noticed the delay of the weapons lol.

Its just normal this thread explodes when paying people get to know that what they payed is being put on hold with no sight on when the work will be continued…

Theres no reason to throw any bad news to the wolves if there isnt something in the background waiting.

I hope for you that the spring update is not turned into summer update suddenly^^

you better deliver a huge awesome april update now lol

I think that the goals for ebit set by ncsoft are too greedy.

It was actually quite refreshing to not get that type of developer behaviour for a change. Not that I see this becoming a trend.

It really is. The transparency is refreshing, but the person to whom you replied is right.

It’s the big reason I don’t wear that hat or the celebration cap. But I guess it would be a problem to put a hair style on it that fits 5 different races and both sexes.

It’s a trivial task to smoosh in the vertices to make any current hair look like there is a hat on top of it.

The primary issue is probably focused on the fact that Anet likely doesn’t have a system coded in that can reference what hair you have normally and then load in the proper “smooshed hair” to match it when you wear a helmet/hat.

All they have is a toggle that tells the game to hide or show the hair based on whether the headgear would need it. Hence, we have circlets that show hair but the launch day baseball cap gives us a chrome dome.

Hats worked properly with hair early on- in beta? Unless I’m remembering wrong- which is entirely possible. (I hope someone who knows can say- I have a memory of a norn character with a hat and hair and then trying the same thing later and being annoyed that it did not work.)

edit: i’ve been told that this was helmets not clothes. i don’t know if either is right. though if they knew how to do it with helmets at one point (I’ve never enabled most headgear in game for its head item/hair deletion issues) it stands to reason it should be do-able with hats, no?

Obviously I go into this knowing that some players will be very upset. That’s why it’s such a tough decision.

Ankdarkwolf, Darkmikau, Ballads, Spira, Caerbannog, Cysgod, you each posted a variant of an accusation I’ve seen many times over the past few months on the forums, something along the lines of, “AN shipped half an expansion with HoT.” I take issue with that. We shipped a new region full of content, a new mastery system, gliding, guild halls, a new profession, nine new elite specializations for existing professions, and more. Then we shipped precursor journeys for existing legendaries, and said, “We’ve been working hard on new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.” While I fully get that you’re disappointed today, this is not about us shipping half an expansion pack.

Mo

Over the years, since before launch and shortly afterward, you have said “soon” to guild halls, “soon” to more fractals, “soon” to more legendary weapons. This did not start with HoT, and it unfortunately did not end with it.

The reason why people feel it is half an expansion pack, aside from half-finished features, is because it utterly lacks sustainable new content. Every last major “content” drop in GW2, including HoT has been feature heavy and content light. Everything listed, excluding your beautiful new maps, are FEATURES, not content! You know this but as ever, you hope we do not.

hey guru,

I am 100% with you on the penalty box. My graphics were glitching and I couldn’t see any of the story unless someone was with me for some ridiculous reason, so I was stuck doing the stories with the party my first time through and I had the same trouble. I get the penalty box for hard mode, but for story mode- why?!

There are these whitish ley line funnels that spawn around the fight. At “take to the skies” cue, walk under one and it will boost you upward. (DON’T JUMP into it!) At this point open your glider. When you see a rock coming toward you bank your glider by turning with the WASD or drop your glider for a short time then bring it back up again.

Didn’t GW2 already have a Bunny killing event? (Perhaps it was the harbinger of things yet to come.)

Definition of Pay2Win

in PvP

Posted by: Dovienya.6597

Dovienya.6597

Most MMO’s have ridiculous powercreep. As new content drops, levels rise, builds, gear, skills and combinations get stronger, and so do the enemies they are facing. The previous parts of the game stay around for the new players but after a while the leveling process is often streamlined, somewhat culled or even cut out all together with the ability to buy fully leveled and geared characters.

Guild Wars 2 did not raise the level cap. They have not been adding in stronger gear bit by bit. Elite specs were supposed to be “different” but not introduce powercreep. They did. This is a problem for PvP, personal entitlements not withstanding, because players who HAVE will be playing players who HAVE NOT. This is not balanced or enjoyable for anyone.

(Spoilers!!!) Trahearne (by a non-hater)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dovienya.6597

Dovienya.6597

Trahearne was terrible. I’ll list the ways:

1.) Trahearne is non-believable. He became leader of the Pact by pulling a sword out of a ground and knowing a lot about Orr. He knows nothing of military strategy (that we’re told of) and his only desire is to fulfill his Wyld Hunt. He doesn’t have loves, he doesn’t have a family, he’s just there…

This sounds like King Arthur, that mythological King on whose kingdom and customs the Sylvari are partially based.

2.) Everyone knows and loves Trahearne. Random people know Trahearne and it is presented horribly. He randomly shows up and every NPC is literally like “Yo, Trahearne! Whats up my dog?” No one seems to hate or dislike him. He literally has no personal challenges to his authority that are serious, which makes him less or a real character. Real people that make real decisions ALWAYS face harsh criticism or opposition. The fact Trahearne bulldozes his way through the story is just awful.

This is untrue. Play through PS again if you have the time or desire and listen to the dialogue between him and other NPC’s, before he is accepted as pact leader everyone and their dog questions him, and even afterward when things are moving fast in the war there is often dissent concerning which way to proceed among the orders. Sometimes that ends in a story mechanism for PC decision-making.

3.) Trahearne has NO personality. Trahearne is awful. You know that scene in Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith when Anakin talks about how he hates sand? That’s how Trahearne sounds ALL OF THE TIME. Trahearne doesn’t hate anyone, doesn’t seem to have emotions, and doesn’t get hurt. He is pretty much Jesus, which makes for an incredibly boring character.

Not Jesus, TREESUS!

Some people feel that haters don’t like him because he takes the spotlight, which I feel is not the point. If we had a true Pact Leader that was presented as a general or someone with more background who welcomed us a commander, it would seem so much more genuine than some random guy taking charge almost immediately with no military knowledge.

Imagine this:

Pact Leader should be someone with prior military knowledge: I honestly would love it if it was Logan or Rytlock, or any of the members of destiny’s edge. It could have been anyone that was an outsider to each of the pact factions.

They have already known you for a while (or heard of you from the other Destiny’s Edge members), respect you, and bring you on to lead a special operations task force (which is why you make decisions of what to do for Orr).

This special operations task force is what does all of the stuff on Orr, without the Pact Leader being involved until the end.

This would serve multiple purposes: you’re still a hero for leading the special operations team into Orr, the Pact Leader is believable and credible, and it leaves them with a lot of story room to do whatever they need.

If you wanted Trahearne, he could still be in the game as part of the Special Operations team because he is an expert on Orr.

If people are worried about Treesus taking the spotlight, imagine Pact Marshal Rytlock.

Anyhow, I didn’t hate Trehearne and didn’t think he really stole the spotlight, but I did think they wrote the PS poorly after the racial part, and a large aspect of that was the representation of the Trehearne-Commander relationship-as I said, I didn’t feel my spotlight was stolen, I don’t have to BE a commander of something in a game to feel like a hero- heck I don’t have to be the ONLY hero in the world or in the war to be a hero, but I didn’t feel like a commander, despite the story telling me I was one. It felt contrived. I think that put a lot of people off, and aside from that many more people who probably, in reality noticed NONE of this during their PS just love to jump on any bandwagon filled with hatred.

When I first entered uncategorized fractal- which I realize is not a JP even- I could not see the platforms well enough or aim my mouse toward them properly (now practice and muscle memory means I do not have to even look). I’ve learned that careful movement and sometimes changing the key bindings can help. As one of the other posters said- I practice them. The timed ones are hard, but I am better at them for the practice, and consequently better at orienting my character spatially in this game in general.

I’ve played fights where one person claims “the aggro was on me the whole time because X Y or Z” where its confirmation bias. sometimes times the aggro was not on that person most of the time, it only felt that way to them.

Toughness DOES factor in to aggro, but not as much as people tend to think.

I asked a developer how aggro mechanics work and this was my answer, whether its a correct answer or not is up for grabs. Anyway here it is:

The first thing they said is that:

aggro mechanics are looser and less specified than people tend to believe.

aggro in most fight has to do with proximity- some the closest or furthest target, respectively. Proximity changes- as in one person moves closer or further away suddenly.

Most recent/most damage.

Then- Toughness.

If multiple people are all in the same range and same similar gear- then changes in damage spikes are more likely to draw aggro. damage spikes probably why the ele may get seized on, bladex ^

seems reasonable that if everyone in the party except one guy is wearing zerk gear and the last guy is wearing rabid/knights/whatevertoughness- in a fight like lupi he would seize on the one in toughness gear based on the mechanics described- at least a good percentage of the time.

don’t know if that’s the right answer or not- or even what part of the game the guy works on. but it seems about right to me. who knows- may be i’m experiencing confirmation bias also.

You can purchase insignia with the zone currency from dynamic/meta events without any high mastery level from the zone merchants. (Viper for example can be bought from a merchant at the first waypoint you get when entering Auric Basin.)

The fractals Legendary stuff and all mastery stuff is Expansion content and why should it not be locked behind the Expansion? This is nothing you had before the expac.GW2.

Fractals Mastery you require to increase fractal rewards. Base rewards for content that was already in the game. They did not add to fractals content AT ALL. They did change features and interface, and destroy any and all challenge there was to fractals at all, which was what kept the fractal community playing despite a dearth of rewards all along (that’s not a new thing)

They re-color the weapons (the golden weapons have less effects than the old ones), add a legendary back pack*, and made it so that we could choose our islands- added a new fractal daily system. The last two are great changes- but these are features being added to the BASE GAME CONTENT. This was not maguuma or heart of thorns content.

*The legendary back piece should perhaps have required something from fractals’ collections but been part of legendary crafting mastery which perhaps should have been its own separate mastery category that gained XP from both tyria and HoT perhaps gained double XP in HoT- but that everyone had access to whether they bought or not.

I bought HoT, maxed my fractal mastery. I am not complaining because I do not want to spend money on the game. I just do not think this is the way to treat your veterans who aren’t interested in HoT, keep the “undecided” players- the ones who have not bought HoT yet, playing- nor a good impression to make on people who are new to the game.

I have heard alot about this on the forums that rewards are nerfed and put behind masteries… That is actually bad but I want to see the facts that it is so. I am no regular fractal player but I have gotten more interesting loot + a few Ascended rings just as I usally got when I did the low level fractals… I bet it is the random drop weapon skins on higher fractals we are talking about or what?

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18IHVJao5j85KOp6lBTOgO8qs4VYD3Xty-jKPZo8o-Q4/pubhtml

Here is some fractal drop research. This is significantly lower than it was pre-HoT.

It’ pretty clear yes… thats sad but on the other hand the current tab has only 573 chests and none have over 100 except for veterans. From when I worked with datacollecting I learned that we needed 200# from each part not more and not less. On the pre Pre 23/10/2015 it is over 7706 chests and on both level 40 and 50 it is around 50% more opened chests that on level 20 and 30.

What about the other thing that you can now only get the stuff from the Masteries? It’s sad that they have made it this way so that non-HoT owners can not get the “good” stuff… It’s fractals after all and you are supposed to get your ascended gear there that’s how I understands it.

Anyhow with the Masteries how big are the chances for a “good” drop?

In the end, I hope this is just not inteded that it is just a bug that will get fixed soon and if it is not I hope they make ascended drops come back again.

Read Here:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Central_Tyria_mastery_tracks

Not a bug. Even with the masteries the chances are not good- but the loot table is increased and you have access to more daily chests/achieves/merchants- but less daily chests tiers than before HoT.

The problem was not to add Gyros, but to decide they should think. Gyros don’t needed AI to work. They could have been passive boosters, re-locable objects, projectiles, tethered entities, a different way to visualize direct attacks or effects, etc.

I was almost convinced they were going to be the Engie’s version of signets. There were so many possibilities!

But no. They have to make them Turrets 2.0. Bookahs…

agreed.

also, as the present iteration of stealth gyro- why can the cloaking machine not also cloak itself from enemies? needs a rework. (ally stealth view to allies with nameplate.)

What do you mean 1 in 3 chance of getting an ascended box per day? Do you mean per tier? Or if you do every tier.

I meant if you did 50/40/30/20 (16 islands), thereby maximizing your chances, you would have a roughly 33% (1 in 3 chance) of getting an ascended box each day.

I understand that mathematically, its reasonable and logical that I happened to fall into the unfortunate 2/3 every single time- an outlier-but I’m wonder if anyone knows what the actual drop rate was per tier.

As Bohantopa above mentioned, I used [KING]’s numbers. (Look at the second tab: “Pre 23/10/2015”)

Level 50: 11.9% chance of an armor box, 4.2% of a weapon box. (16.1% total)
Level 40: 6.9% armor, 2.3% weapon. (9.2% total)
Level 30: 4.2% armor, 1.8% weapon. (6% total)
Level 20: 3.7% armor, 0.8% weapon. (4.5% total)

This works out to:

1-((1-0.161)*(1-0.092)*(1-0.06)*(1-0.045)) = 0.316

= roughly 32% chance of getting an ascended box if you run 50/40/30/20 for the day.

That certainly doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed one every three days, I’ve gone a full week and a half of doing 50/40/30/20 without an ascended chest, and I’ve also gotten two in a single day before. It can be pretty streaky. But getting one every 3 or 4 days was pretty common for me.

I thought my husband’s drop rates were crazy high, but they’re actually right on, I’m beginning to think that maybe I’m not an outlier case, that there may be something wrong with my account. I’ve never gotten an ascended box from anywhere in the game.

I know at one point a long time ago they said there was something wrong with the loot tables on certain accounts but I’d have thought that was taken care of a long time ago. Thank you for the in-depth info.

yeah, at this point i just want the old fractals back.

This is pretty much what people were saying after the fractured update in late 2013.

Fractals were the best before that update for sure.

Agreed. I miss being able to do multiple daily tiers on multiple characters. What could possibly have been wrong with that? Its not like fractals gave a lot of loot or gold.

What I don’t understand is how is this item different from partying with someone and joining their location through the party UI.

Because it actually ports you to their location. Right on top of their character. Using the UI as you described only puts you in their instance.

If your trying to teleport to a friend in a full map, it will not allow you to teleport, and will use up the item anyways. Why?
Luckily I got a bunch of free ones, because I would never pay for this.

Yes this has happened to me a few times too,

The fractals Legendary stuff and all mastery stuff is Expansion content and why should it not be locked behind the Expansion? This is nothing you had before the expac.GW2.

Fractals Mastery you require to increase fractal rewards. Base rewards for content that was already in the game. They did not add to fractals content AT ALL. I always run my mes in high lvl fracs, primarily due to their utility and the fact that most I run with prefer running tankier classes.

I was primarily using disenchanter and shatters to remove boons, but tried to save them for when stacks of particular boons got high, even with chronomancer you can’t keep em off for long. BUT when you do remove the stabs/protection, during that time your parties dps spikes, and helps cut the time down, even just a little bit.

There’s no point removing low stacks, but if protection gets to 25….. lol

Is it perfect? no, the instability lacking any internal CD makes it silly indeed.
Plus, most of us run zerker, a few of us had full condi builds as well.

I considered using a spare soldiers set on my guard n tryin it with that, but seems too bothersome, so we’ll just power through, doing what we can to mitigate SOME of the boons:/

Easy to do, just takes more time.

Possibly 1 or 2 reapers in carrion gear (less crits over the course of the party- or sinister/rabid on one or both the boon load is not too great) may make a difference. With 2 party members that are not only stripping but corrupting, rotating corrupting wells. Whatever else is done with the build, up to the individual. Each reaper could call out use of long cd skills for removing high stacks from tough enemies.

The other 3/4 members would play their standard zerk burn.

This is what the reaper/s would do—

Trait for party-wide protection/lifesteal/reduced wells

Well of Corruption (32 cd) — 5 pulses of corruption 1 second apart.

Trait: Signets of Suffering- Reduces recharge on signets. Signets grant might when cast and convert 2 boons on affected foes to conditions. This procs ALL signets, including traits-associated.

SIGNETS: (Use Signet of Vampirism (28 cd) , Lesser Signet of Vampirism (16 cd), and Signet of Spite 48 cd)

Shout: Nothing Can Save You!- Unblockable (25 cd)

Focus: Spinal Shivers (20 cd) strips 3 boons and does straight damage for each.

can instead also hold omni infusion (cheap +5 ar ones available from merchant)

Whaat ? How can I miss that. That piece of information is priceless in my situation.
Behold fractals I am coming !

there are two different types of slots for infusions.

one takes blue from merchant inside fractal instance.

the other takes green that comes from drops. they drop like crazy from fractals once you start doing them and can be combined using your artificer.

the green can only go in the green type infusion slots, the blue can only go in the blue type infusion slots.

all ascended gear has slots and occasionally non-ascended special pieces.

armor pieces have one blue slot.
weapon have two blue slot
amulet and earrings each have one blue slot
rings start with one blue slot but can be twice upgraded to have two green slots.
back pieces have one blue and one green slot.

Also, if i got someone to help me complete a lvl 50+ fractal, could i then buy the boxes right away ?

can someone confirm the “myth” i’ve heard about this?

It’s not a myth. I think there’s a fractal mastery that allows you to purchase a fractal box for 20 pristine relics if you’ve completed a 50+ fractal.

Drops are rare. I played fractals since they launched, (we,, 2 months after fractals launched) every daily, almost every day, including back when you could play the daily scales on multiple characters- so A LOT- and never got a fractal sword until I bought them with pristine relics. I got 6 staffs though, over the years and a number of other weapons. There were several weapons I did not get any of, though- so all things being equal if you’re not a frequent fractal runner- get the ones you want with relics.

No, it is NOT a myth. I finally got my fractal sword after getting the ability with the mastery.

Just being able to choose a specific island is the bee’s knees…

As a person who rolled swamp thousands of time communicating to another, may I remind you that there is no logical reason to assume that appreciation of one feature that streamlines UI/transition through multiple fractal runs prohibits the request for another?

That being said, I prefer the scaling of the old 1-50 system, but being able to choose islands is excellent. This wouldn’t be my #1 complaint.

Don’t agree. It doesn’t make any sense to put a lot of work into a lot of content that doesn’t stay in the game.

the idea was to make an ever-changing ‘living’ world (thus the name Living Story), rather than the static world of most MMOs.

this woulda worked fine, if they coulda chugged out content at 3x-4x the rate that they did. It just took too long between living world updates, and there wasnt enough to them; even the cooler ones mostly utilized existing world spaces.

As for removed content there were ways to preserve some of it. I find it baffling that there is no Clockwork Fractal.

edit: The cool part of the Living Story is that: Scarlet’s dead! It’s something that actually happened. You can see her impact all over the game, but she’s not around. It’s not something about where you are on your quest timeline, it’s not different for you depending on what plot choice you took; she’s dead. Same thing for the Ancient Karka sitting cooked through in the lava in Southsun. You don’t get the same sort feel of actual ingame history from repeatable content.

I really hope there’s a marionette fractal at some point. Its one of the best designed fights this game has ever seen. It is not the same thing they did with the old dungeon content from Living World, but if they could manage to scale it properly, this would be amazing and probably the only way we will get to re-experience it unless they somehow re-do old living world stuff in the open world- which I doubt, or make smaller solo content out of it which would be even harder to scale and is also doubtful.

the design intent was to give people that have a shorter time to play be able to play fractals so 1 instead of 4.
Logicaly then the reward have to go down by 3/4th aswell.

You don’t get ascended boxes by doing islands; you get them by doing dailies. You have to do 5 dailies (11 islands) to maximize your chances of getting an ascended box. In the past, you would have done a run of 50/40/30/20 (16 islands). So maybe you have a basis to argue that the drop rate should be 32% lower per day, since you are running fewer islands per day.

(I’ll ignore for a moment that this limit on the number of islands run for daily rewards is imposed on us rather than by choice — another kind of nerf. I would rather run 16 islands if it meant full rewards.)

Even so, the actual drops rates are far worse than that. Under the old system you had a roughly 1 in 3 chance of getting an ascended box per day. Under the new system, you have a roughly 1 in 30 chance of getting an ascended box per day. A 90% reduction in drop rate.

That’s the difference between putting a new gearset together every three weeks versus every 6 months (assuming you’re lucky enough to get a different piece each time).

What do you mean 1 in 3 chance of getting an ascended box per day? Do you mean per tier? Or if you do every tier.

Just curious. I did this almost every day. My husband averaged one a week and he only did this for 2 months and only did half the runs I did a day- and from what I’ve heard from others, that’s high. (From what I’ve seen, too, but relative to the entire fractal player base, my sample size is pretty small.)

I understand that mathematically, its reasonable and logical that I happened to fall into the unfortunate 2/3 every single time- an outlier-but I’m wonder if anyone knows what the actual drop rate was per tier. (Compared to what it is now. I’m STILL doing the dailies and still, no ascended box from ANYWHERE in the game on my account.)

All these ‘outliers’ that have been running fractals before they even existed that never had a skin drop, it must really suck to be part of that clique given that just every garbage player now has every single fractal skin in the game, they were one of the few skins in the game that when you used to see it you’d think, hey that guy runs fractals a lot, he must at LEAST have stepped inside a fractal, but like I said, the most garbage players on the game have every single fractal weapon they could ever want, what is the point in that? How is this any different from invalidating gear progress?

In wow when a new expansion comes out all the top tier gear suddenly becomes useless as the first vendor in the new areas usually sells something better. In heart of thorns all I don’t even like using my fractal skins given that I nearly had a full collection, I felt like I actually earned the skins. I know most gw2 players seem to hate rng but they never mention what kept them playing fractals for 2 years, was it the rng? The chance that maybe this time i’ll get the fractal sword skin or will I get 20 empyreal fragments? So enough whining and now you can buy the skins on the trading post, how kittening sad is that.

So essentially everything I have done in fractals for the past 2 years has been invalidated because the people that can barely log in the game for 10 minutes a week demanded that they should all the skins on a silver platter right now. I don’t like to use the word but it is entitlement.

My response was in reference to the person who thinks Arenanet is trying to transfer the farming of gold and gold-generating/gold saving loot from dungeons to fractals. What I’m saying is that there is not a high amount of reliable loot or gold that you get from fractals. That was what the comment re: RNG was about, not skins.

I also ran them the entire time fractal weapons existed and I got focus (1), staff (6x) torch (2x), axe (1x), spear (2x), dagger (3x) and pistol (5x)- but what I really wanted was the sword. I had no problem with the old system or its rewards. Obviously or I wouldn’t have been playing them so much.

I am not asking for RNG to not exist, at least not with things like fractal weapons. Yeah it took the wind out of my sails a just a little to finally get the sword and know every tom kitten and harry that rolls their face across fractals can get it now, but to be honest that’s not why I wanted it and not why I used to run fractals- but I agree with you- something that’s hard and requires skill AND requires a commitment of a great amount of time should have a reward. If not RNG, then some other way.

If I designed the mastery system, I would have had Tyria master NOT require HoT purchase. I would have had Legendary crafting in its own category and get XP from every activity everywhere in the world concurrently with all other mastery, but at a slower rate. Fractal mastery would ONLY gain mastery from fractals and each reward tier, like fractal weapons would require mastery like it already does, but for the rewards, more of an investment than it does right now- that way it would still require the time- only people who put time in would benefit. That way mastery would feel like it means something. As it is now, we get the same XP for fractals as you get for vistas, and only 1200 more XP than for POI’s. For commander of the Pact, I would have had that be for open world stuff for people just coming into the game and not sure they want to buy HoT or do fractals, but want a taste.

So, we’re essentially in agreement Elomite, except I think it may have been possible for them to take a different path so that there would not be outliers who don’t have the fractal weapon or ascended gear. Should it require a significant investment? Yes, but it should be within reason.

we solo, duo or trio most of them if there aren’t groups available. (sometimes we even qaurtet, lol.)

the only reason there is to group for the high ones is that they’re health sacks with wet noodles for weapons, and it would take 2 years to finish one otherwise. (we DO group when there are people available.)

I’m on your side, OP.

OP -"the new fractal daily system has made pugging a soul less, boring experience, only the fast easy fracts are being run, nobody talks much.. if at all.

the traditional hi, heya, howdy.. etc has more or less died..
i thought this expansion was about creating a more involved online community"

I was thinking that was weird also. Ironically people talked more in dungeons (which are arguably easier than at least higher lv. fractals) . People regularly at least said Hi at beginning and thanks at end of most dungeons.

Seems like the higher you go up on the fractal scale the less people talk, unless someone does something really stupid.

the higher you go up the more competent people are. it was like that in the old 50 system too. I always heard a lot of bad things about high level fractal community (usually from people who had never played ANY fractals or had only played 1-9) and sort of shook my head- being one who played them almost every day.

Low level ones- the 1-9 scale, you had some people willing to teach but mostly new players and people attempting dailies after a period of time- but they were not so much harder than dungeons.

The old 10 and 20’s scale- that’s where it hit the fan. those typically took the longest for me to pug alone because they had a lot people joining who perhaps preferred to push into an “experienced” LFG, than make their own, people who will NOT admit they don’t have enough/any AR like its some kind of aspersion on their character, and a lot of PHIW. I’m all for PHIW but if a group says experienced, bring it elsewhere.

That all thinned out at the 30-50 scale for the most part, and even though there would be the occasional person who was having a rough day, or just a jerk- I found the high level fractal community of old to be competent and tacit, but friendly. Many, many, many more good pug runs at 50 than bad.

As for the new system, I am all for making fractals easier to get into and growing the community. Fix the problems with the scaling, though and please PLEASE bring in some new fractals.

Have dungeon rewards been nerfed...AGAIN?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Dovienya.6597

Dovienya.6597

Okay bumping old topic, but if memory serves, they just increased the gold earned from dungeons about a year ago, now they are nerfing it, Arah for 1 gold? Pfft. Now they are forcing us all into fractals for any loot/rewards. Again, so much for play how you like. Casual players can never earn enough gold to keep up with the cost of crafting ascended gear. Guess they want to sell more gems to convert to gold.

If you think fractals are going to be any kind of gravy train (have been or are now) you’ve got another thing coming. Fractal rewards used to be worse, but they aren’t much better now. The rewards are still largely RNG based, doesn’t scale well with increased “difficulty” and on that note, the challenge has been taken out of fractals with the terrible scaling and the challenge was what brought the fractal community to the table in the face of all that reward lack. (Why do a 20-40 minute fractal run- in the old system- with an experienced/competent group, for 1 gold a couple rares and a chance at an ascended chest- (I never ever got one, running 5-7 FULL fractal runs a day for much of the time the chests existed. I know I’m an outlier, I’m sure- all my friends got them- but there you are.) Now you at least are guaranteed fractal weapons if you do the right stuff, you can get better rewards if you do the dailies, and the achieves, but its still pretty bad. You make a LOT more in open world HoT/silverwastes/world boss.

Yes.

This happened to me, where the ground kept disappearing around the rifts with no way to get to them. I had to repeat this entire story about 25 times. I bug reported/screen shot it.)

THEN. I have some vision problems but I learn how to get by in this game. Then there’s the updrafts that don’t look like updrafts, which you have only a couple of seconds to get to, and can’t get to from everywhere on the map. Also, everywhere else in HoT, you jump to deploy your glider, but here jumping makes the glider bug out.

(Addressing a lot of peoples’ questions:)

So if you’re having trouble with the updrafts, don’t jump. Just walk into them. Stop gliding for a moment or use your mouse to bank to avoid rocks.

Gave up on my 4th character, the updrafts just were not working and the shield never works so it was impossible for me to get past the fight. Possibly because this was a Norn character and taller than the others? Either way after about and hour and a half of trying I gave it up. Waste of time.

Lascia, I played mine on Asura, so no I don’t think so.

I had problems with a number of bugs, including that one, but walking into the updrafts instead of jumping makes it happen less often.
