Ok, so I am wanting to use some of the art that has been created by ArenaNet Artists, by redrawing and wood burning it onto the back of my guitar. I know that such a thing is not illegal, due to creative useage laws, but the problem that I believe I will encounter, is when I go attempt to have the picture printed.

See, the process is going to require that I have a printed copy of the picture I want to use, and laying down a thing layer of carbon, so that I can trace certain lines onto the guitar. I’ve had the problem at a previous point in time, where I was denied a print from staples due to copyright issues.

I can freehand draw, but I’ve not got enough practice under my belt to feel comfortable enough that I believe I won’t make a mistake on my GUITAR. So I really would like to have this art printed off… Can anyone offer any extra insight or direction for me?

Why HoT was less than half a expansion...

See, here’s my thing… I paid $50 for a game that is now free-to-play, then $50 for it’s expansion… The gap in the AMOUNT of content put into the original game and the first expansion is FEELS enormous in comparison. I understand that ArenaNet has had to split the original development team of Guild Wars 2 up… They’ve got all kinds of developers for short term content, and then they’ve got developers for long term content. Yet for an entire year, they didn’t release content before the expansion…

Then when the expansion is released, not everything that was promised with it was released with it, and some of it even cancelled. Ok, I understand that why people are upset… To call it half a game though? Well, sorry to tell you, but it IS half a game… It’s an EXPANSION to the original game. Secondly, I understand the feeling of disappointment towards ArenaNet with the amount of content coming from this Expansion. Yet, then I think about it this way… The expansion team at it’s most was probably close to about 1/3rd the size of the original development team that created Guild Wars 2. Also, understand that the amount of time invested in creating this expansion, was probably about 1/3rd, 1/4th, or even a 1/5th of the amount of time they had to create Guild Wars 2. The shrinkage in time can be daunting when you realize you have to create an entirely new half to a game. Even more so when you realize that you have to do it with less manpower than you originally had, because let’s be honest and serious here… It took Blizzard, another major MMO gaming company, 3 Expansions to realize that they needed to SERIOUSLY increase the amount of developers they have when creating expansions. By then, half the game population had left… Hopefully ANet will understand that they need to MASSIVELY increase the size of their expansion team for the year prior to it’s release. 3-6 Months just to get everyone new vetted and in line with what’s going on, then the final 6 months to CRUSH development and release the next X-Pac with a boom! I think by the third X-Pac, if ANet does everything right, they can top Blizzard’s record in users easily.

P/P Build - How to easily strengthen

Also, I’m not sure how well this would calculate at level 80 for total damage done… My only thief is level 20, and it would calculate to about 50% less damage per second in comparison to the bleed… However, again this is at a very low level and doesn’t take into consideration a 3 stat build… I think at higher levels, it would likely -still- translate into less damage than the bleed would turn out to be, and if it does then the main hand pistol attack (Vital Shot) would need to be upped by approximately 15-20% to simply match the output provided by the bleeds in a solo instance… This is also considering that a constant stack of 5 Vulnerability is up if the change were to happen…

P/P Build - How to easily strengthen

Drayven.6408

Ok, so one of the main arguments against P/P is that it’s Auto-Attack and main initiative/damage dump work against each other very harshly… My thoughts on this, is that the fix would be extremely simple… Make the main Pistol attack drop on Vulnerability instead of Bleeding… This would allow the other main build, a condition build for Pistols, P/D to remain viable by simply adding on more damage to one condition. Granted, yes you have the argument that it makes it easier to remove a single condition in PvP vs 2 conditions, but honestly there aren’t a ton of skills out there (without traiting for it) that remove just 2 conditions… They either remove 3 conditions or just 1… This will allow P/P to stack -just- Vulnerability instead of Vulnerability -and- bleeding when it isn’t even a condition build with it’s main damage dump. Essentially turning the P/P build into a pure Power Stat Build, instead of a confused Half Power/Half Condition Build that is very weak DPS from any perspective.

Any thoughts to this?

How to run gw2 in high graphics

Drayven.6408

I can run the game in low at a good 60-80 fps but when I got to high it goes down to like 14. I assume this is because of my bad graphics but is it?

Nutshell answer: yes, it is the weak onboard GPU that is causing this.

Fixing it: Check motherboard for PCI-e slots. It should have at least one, but make sure. If you find one, rejoice! Buy a better PSU (and it really is more than the W rating you need to be looking at) and a decent PCI-e Graphics card and you should be able to crank it up to High. Except in massive zergs, which will cripple any system.

Really, if this PC is new and within the return window, I’d recommend getting a full refund. You can get a decent gaming PC for the price of this system plus the upgrades mentioned. You don’t need Dell motherboard/case/etc. holding you back.

I wouldn’t go and say -any- system would be crippled by massive zergs… I giggle as I run around and through a zerg, easily pushing 40-50 FPS and have graphics settings maxxed out.

To stay on topic… The main thing I want to know here is from the OP, and that is what is the exact model number of your PC? Yes the graphics card is a bit low, too low to be trying to run GW2 at decent settings… Before we can move forward however, I need to know the exact model number… Also I need to know if your PC was bought with the extended warranty, or with just the base 1 year. If it came with just the 1 year, then how old is it exactly?

Can Guild Wars 2 run on HP Elitebook 2540p?

Ok, a few things to note here…

Notebooks are not going to be very good playing GW2… Specifically for two reasons…

1 – GW2 is actually a game that is very CPU dependent and not so much with being GPU dependent… With that said most laptops these days, even an i7 in most laptops these days are going to be dual-core processors, even if it says Quad-Core, they are likely to only have 2 cores capable of Hyper Threading.

2 – Laptops almost always run with a shared memory GPU vs Dedicated memory for a desktop GPU with an actual video card that isn’t integrated. This means that the RAM in the computer is shared with the OS and all of the software on the hard drive (Like Normal), AND the GPU. Meaning you actually have even less memory than is actually stated.

Now with all that said, you definitely could run GW2 on a laptop… Although, I highly doubt that you could actually get away with going any higher than medium settings on pretty much any laptop out there right now, unless you were wanting something that would cost more than $1000.

A couple of things that you should watch for when buying a laptop is this… Stick with Intel… You want an HD 4000 or higher with the GPU. You also want at least an i5, and finally you really want to get at least 4GB of RAM.

That all said, with $500 total you could get twice the computer with a Desktop than you could a laptop. I would still recommend that you actually get a desktop over a laptop. If you can’t though, I would recommend that you go with the laptop already recommended here in this thread.

Not likely… The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD Graphics chip is not a very powerful GPU…

What kind of budget are you working with? I may be able to assist you with getting a computer that would work for running GW2. Also does it -have- to be a laptop, or could you possibly work with a Desktop?

This has nothing to do with Microsoft. This is a DDoS attack. It’s basically causing more traffic then the Internet ‘pipes’ can hold resulting in lag, delays, unable to login, etc.

You’re partially right with this, and even probably completely right… However, Windows not being as secure as linux CAN be, depending on the distro used and what kind of software you are willing to install in Windows… BotNets are formed by private networks of malicious software, and used to perform actions such as sending spam messages and DDoS attacks. Now, with that all stated… There are more pieces of malicious software designed for Windows than there are for Linux. Also, Microsoft has often left backdoors open so that certain government agencies can gain access to a PC whenever they want.

Now is that Microsoft’s fault? Nope, definitely isn’t… Windows is more commonly used than any other OS out there, so of course the developers of these malicious softwares are more likely to design their virus/malware/spyware specifically for Windows based API.

All that stated, is this DDoS coming from malware designed specifically for some backdoor in Windows? I would actually put my money on the software that ANet is using to test people’s computers that has the backdoor in it… Thus making it worse for every person who downloads their testing and security tools, and is also the set of tools directly under ANet’s nose, which is the last place they are likely to look at…

Glass buddy… Fiber optic has no limits.

I am guessing you aren’t a computer professional and that you believe the rags that pass as “computer experts”.

Actually there are theoretical limitations for Fiber Optics… You are correct in stating that Fiber Optics would likely solve the situation, as long as their ISP actually has the proper fibers setup along with the proper trunk… There is actually a 100 TBps connection out there right now that could very likely handle this load, but it’s highly unlikely that any ISP or Business is willing to pay to have this kind of hardware installed.

That stated, there are 2 limitations to Fiber Optics that are out there… Loss of light due to absorption and impurities in the glass itself, as well as losses due to mechanical strains put on the fiber when bending at a very tight angle, called a cladding region.

Let’s also not forget that there is a limitation in Fiber Optics due to the wavelength of the light that is used because it is absorbed at different rates through different kinds of glass.

Am I a computer professional? Nope… Never claimed to be one… Although I do claim to know at least a little bit, since I’m in college right now attaining an Associates of Applied Science in Network Administration. Is that much? Hell no it’s not, but honestly I don’t really care what you think…

MY Point is this and only this… Which is NCSoft willing to do? Pay to have a whole new trunk and fiber optics network put into place, possibly costing millions, if not hundreds of millions, of dollars? Or have their Security team figure out exactly what’s going on, and at what layer in the protection of their network is failing? The security team effort costs no more than what they are already paying…

That’s a bogus claim. Some people are just kittened. If he “forgot”, he’s not doing it.

Not true… Especially if the Wildstar Servers are at the same location as the Guild Wars 2 servers… In which case, he’s been bringing down the Wildstar Servers which he has stated over and over again, alongside the Guild Wars 2 servers. He just may have forgotten that they were at the same location, hence he forgot to mention that Guild Wars 2 was being affected as well. In some of his previous posts he had it timed properly where he had stated Guild Wars 2 #offline without announcing that he had forgotten it.

What part of “protected” do you not understand?

If there is that much traffic TO Anet’s servers – and they can’t handle the traffic and this isn’t a DDoS attack (which I know it is, my gosh the net has been absolutely horrid today even Pandora having problems getting connected) then Anet better pay for larger pipes and stop the throttling of its own game.

I am a computer professional of over 25 years and I am insulted by those who don’t get or don’t want to belive that DDoS attacks are happening, that Anet doesn’t have the right size pipes and blames the player when this overwhelming lag makes the game unplayable which is extremely unfair to the people who have a limited time to game a day.

http://news.techworld.com/security/3531040/wave-of-100gbps-mega-ddos-attacks-hits-record-level-in-2014/

The size of their bandwidth has nothing to do with it when you have a 100Gbps DDoS attack coming from a sizeable botnet. They could have the most powerful internet connection out there right now, which they likely do, and would still have problems with this kind of amount of data coming in. Could they handle 100Gbps? Ya I’m pretty sure they’ve got the trunk to handle it seeing as there are over 1 million players on just Guild Wars 2 alone at any one point in time. However to handle ALL the players for ALL their games alongside ALL their websites PLUS an additional 100+Gbps load? I highly doubt they could handle that…

Confirmed by Carbine (Wildstar) and he just announced he was taking NCSoft back down.

Someone taking credit isn’t really confirmation. It could be someone just taking credit for something he isn’t doing. That said, it’s possible he, or someone else, is doing a DDoS attack. It could also be bad routing by Level 3.

That’s not providing confirmation that he’s doing it, but it definitely provides confirmation that it’s happening.

And even more massive lag followed by disconnects and errors logging in. Think a patch needs to be seriously considered.

A DDoS attack is not solvable by a game patch… That is an issue directly with the servers, and either it’s a DDoS attack or a Route Injection Attack… Which means that someone is rapidly sending pings to the servers themselves or is rerouting all traffic heading to the servers to somewhere it’s not supposed to go and then back to the servers again.

The only real solve is to find out where the DDOS/RIA is actually coming in at, and to perform a network from that point outwards. That said, it could be one of MANY different things… A virus/malware/spyware/etc allowing network access for the attacks to go down, a zero day exploit (Hopefully not this, because then it will take at least a week to fix), or an actual in-house attack. I’m sure there are other ways to do it as well, but those are the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

Ok, so I’m having this issue as well… During the Gates of Maguuma Storyline I wasn’t experiencing any lag at all. When Entaglement first launched I wasn’t experiencing any lag issues… Once the first Hotfix for Entanglement was released I have been having lag issues ever since.

PC Specs :

Brand Name – CyberpowerPC
Processor – Intel Core i7 4820K (3.7GHz)
Amount of RAM – 16GB
Hard Drive – 1TB HDD + 60GB SSD
Video Card – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (Updated Drivers to Most Current)
Power Supply – 800W
Internet Connection Rate – 20 Mbps (speedtest.net verified)

I currently run the game off of the RPM HDD and not the SSD HDD… Needless to say, I blow the required, or even the recommended, specs completely out of the water so this is not very like to be some kind of Hardware Issue.

I have attached a screenshot of my character at the login screen with the error code that happens after I DC due to this connection issue.

If anymore information would be of assistance, or required to troubleshoot, then please let me know and it will be posted.

What's the fastest way to level?

Runeblade stated it right…

Your best bet is to spend $30 and get about 2400 Gems… Trade those in and get the gold for it, then immediately go to the website -

http://www.gw2crafts.net/

Then from there you want to choose the cheapest professions to max from a Normal or Traditional Guide…

Max out 6 different professions, as each profession maxxed out provides 10 levels. You can max out 2 different professions, and then start replacing the professions, which will allow you to max as many professions as is needed. Also, if you decide to go back to a profession later on, it will cost 40s each time you move into a profession that you’ve maxxed out already.

There are no rules against leveling up in this manner, and is by far the fastest and easiest way to level up.

Now… That being said, if you want a way to level up that doesn’t require you to run around doing events or paying real life money to craft, but is still pretty fast… I’d recommend a combination of exploration and storyline missions… The faster you complete “World Exploration”, the faster you will be able to craft your legendary weapons. As it is one of the things that is required for ANYONE to complete to get a legendary, past straight purchasing an already crafted legendary.

With exploration, if you start at level 20, and complete the full world exploration (Which will also require you enter WvWvW), you will likely be around level 60-65… Off of the experience alone from all the points, is guaranteed 35 levels, but the amount of time that will need to be invested in completing the WvW side will likely gain you a few levels as well. That’s also not including any monsters you kill, or events you complete, along the way throughout the exploration, which will also in turn gain you a few levels.

Once you get to level 65, if you have only completed the storyline missions up until level 20-24, then the remaining missions will be more than enough to get you to level 80.

You people will not change my opinion of this…. There is a difference between PvP’ing people and killing them, and griefing people… They should NOT have stuck a Jumping Puzzle in the WvW area, it’s as simple as that…. It is content designed to grief players who come there only for an achievement. PvE Players are FORCED to PvP… It’s a terrible setup, and only the people who agree with this are the same people who get their nut off on the idea of griefing other players like this Piece of Skritt content.

You cannot compare people in sPvP with people attempting to do a Jumping Puzzle.

You do a Jumping Puzzle to have fun doing content other than PvE or PvP…

Capturing a Control Point in sPvP is part of the Objective for the Match… Capturing a Tower/Camp/Control Point in WvW is an objective for the PvP content…

A jumping puzzle -in- WvW is there for nothing more than simply griefing the players who want the tokens… Tokens which I personally intend to use to get armor and my legendary for my Guardian… Tokens for my Guardian’s Armor and the Gift of Battle are the ONLY reasons I do any form of PvP, but because I am FORCED to do them, I have to deal with people who enjoy griefing, in a puzzle designed to Grief other players…

It’s a Jumping Puzzle… You go through the Jumping Puzzle to do one of two things… You either go through to complete the Puzzle, or you go through to grief other people who are only going through for Chest… If you are going through for the chest, then you have to deal with people who are griefing…

I play PvP, both sPvP and WvW… I go there consensually, and die when I die, and don’t cry about it. When I am introduced to an aspect of the game that is DESIGNED to grief other players, I call it out for what it is… A piece of content that is DESGINED to GRIEF players.

New player starting question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drayven.6408

Drayven.6408

Sorry if this is asked before but the search did not searched anything for anything.

So I am starting out in GW2, did the five hearts in Queensdale and the first quest in Divinity Reach with the rescue. I am 75% into level 4. Is this normal? The last heart questions was already showing it as level 5(?) yet I am still level 4. Looking around the next heart quest is level 6. The last one was level 5.

Am I missing something? I rather not grind mobs repeatedly to make up any missing XP. Before saying don’t worry about XP and levelling, I am because I do not want to be stuck so early in this game with nothing to do because the quests are above my levels.

Some guides suggests I could try the other starting zone, but why should I have to? Surely Queensdale should supply enough content for my human char without having to take content from other races’s starting zone.

Hello to you my new playing friend! It wasn’t too long ago that I myself was just trying to level up… I encountered a few of the same issues as you have, but indeed the content created in Queensdale will get you all the way to 15… It could actually push you all the way to 80 if you wanted to -stay- there, though I personally see no reason why someone would do such a thing to themselves…

To get to level 15 efficiently using only Queensdale, you will want to explore the zone entirely. This includes all points of interest, all vistas, all waypoints, and all of the renowned hearts. I would say also attempt to do all the events you encounter while on the map, and are running around.

That being said, I did not include Storyline Events, Crafting Experience, Dailies, Dungeons, Jumping Puzzles, and World versus World versus World PvP, which are all viable ways to level up… Even with all that, I’m sure there are even more ways to get experience as well. In fact, crafting is arguably the fastest way to level in the game… Though at the same time, it is also quite expensive to do so that way.

Personally, I got to level 25 using Storyline, Exploration, and Events… From that point, all I did was Explore and do Storyline…

Note that 100% Map Completion is required if you wish to create your own Legendary Items… So getting this one out of the way as soon as possible, is a great idea… I hit 80 long before I ever completed exploring the map. In fact, to be honest, I’m still so new I’ve yet to get 100% Completion, and am currently finishing it up by completing the WvWvW areas! (Less than 2% Remains for Exploration!)

Explore the game… Enjoy the game… Find out what works best for you, and realize that you don’t need to be in the highest level zone you can handle to still level up… I was leveling up at 60+ while exploring and running events in level 1-15 and 15-25 zones!

I refuse to spend real money on RNG boxes to get anything, however I will spend money on armors that are directly bought. At least that is… Armors that I like, lol… I definitely would have bought a ticket for the Dragon Staff Skin and the Shield skin, had they been given as a ticket and not a drop out of an RNG Chest, but… Seems ANet didn’t want my money in that one… I will continue to refuse to buy RNG Chests, and will further support actual skins.

Any plans to bring players back to Orr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drayven.6408

Drayven.6408

There are indeed!

We’ve had a lot of feedback from folks asking for more difficult places in the game that can be more rewarding to play in. Our intent with Orr (and Southsun) is to create areas that are more fun/difficult for groups to play through event chains, with events that scale better when larger groups of players show up than the rest of the game, rather than the old versions that fell apart when more than a group or so of players showed up.

Thus the continual updates this year to make the creatures in Orr have more varied skills, the swap over to the new event scaling system that creates veterans/champions as content scales up, and the updates to Southsun to have more playable content. The one thing that’s really missing is the rewards to help make playing in these locations more even exciting and rewarding than they are now.

We want champions to be more rewarding, so places like Orr/Southsun where events can scale up to create champions become one of the more fun and rewarding places in the game to play, since events there can be champion on demand generators to an extent. We’d also like to tie in additional unique rewards to the temple chains, to make those more worthwhile and differentiate them from the giant boss encounters (which we’ll also be upgrading to be more exciting) to give a reason to do each in a day. We’d also like to add more value and use to blue/green items, so things like killing vets feels more rewarding when those type of items drop when doing those events in Orr as well.

And of course, we’d like to remove culling from PvE as well so you can experience these events in all their glory when they do scale up.

We’ll go into specifics on all of this in an updated version of the Gw2 in 2013 blog post sometime in July focusing on our plan for the 2nd half of the year and how we plan to improve the core game experience. OMG! You have no idea how much you have renewed my faith… Thank you -SOOO- much Colin! I’m so happy to find out this bit of information… I know I have been in kind of a griping mood as I opened up on the forums, but to see this kind of information makes me -truly- a happy person. So much so, that I think you will begin to see a better side of me on these forums. Again, Thanks a Ton… Even if it isn’t NOW that this stuff is coming out, simply knowing that the End-Game areas are going to receive another look at them is enough for me. That coupled with the next quote, has made my day, if not my week or more…

You don’t have to leave your guild to join another, unless that particular guild insists in it. I’m in five guilds, personally…one main guild and several guilds for specific reasons.

I had -NO- clue that you could join another guild… Thanks a -TON- for that information! Now I just need to figure out how to into these separate guilds, possibly form my own guild, and actually be opened up to an entirely different style of gameplays and people!

Oh Happy Day!
Oh Happy Day!

Quantity over Quality leads to Buggy Content

Nearly ALL of the content released during Dragon Bash was bugged… It may only count up to be a “Few” bugs… But there are only a “Few” new features that came with Dragon Bash by that same standard…

You are confusing unintended usage with bugs.
Of those you listed only the counter and fireworks were actual bugs.

Apologies that my definition of “Bug” does not fit yours, but to me… An exploit, which is “Unintended Usage” to me is still a bug, and still boils down to the same thing… That it shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

By your definition, were Moa’s Bugged? Nope… Were there people exploiting a situation where they could halt specific Moas from continuing forward? Yes… Was this supposed to happen? Nope… By your definition, was Dragon Ball Bugged? Nope… Were people supposed to be able to eat food and//or use certain utility skills in Dragon Ball? Yes… Was it supposed to happen? Nope… By your definition, were the Minis Bugged? Nope… Were people able to drop Mini Holographic Knights into the Mystic Forge and produce a Mini Holographic Colossus? Yup… Was this supposed to happen? Nope…

To me, an Exploit is a Bug, but not all bugs are exploits… You’re attempting to go past the point that I am trying to make… Why? I have no idea… But this is the last that I will be replying to your statements, because you are either attempting to be malicious and derail the point I am trying to make here or you live in some fantasy world where Dragon Bash content somehow wasn’t bugged at release.

I am quite sure that we have seen this very thread a few days ago (at least that very list and wording)

-List Of Content bugged stated above-

Clearly there were only a few actual bugs.

Yes you did see that same list, and had you read the entire post you would have known that it was me who had posted the very same list… It was removed due to an infraction, which I go into further details about in the above post…

“Clearly there were only a few actual bugs” ???

Ok, first and foremost… This model of “Releasing Content every Month” is great in idea, but terrible when applied in real life. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of having new content all the time, but I don’t like having to deal with bug after bug after bug…

Moa Bird Racing – Bugged @ Release

Dragon Ball Game – Bugged @ Release

Achievement Tracking – Bugged @ Release

Mini Holographic Colossus – Bugged @ Release

Fireworks Content – Bugged @ Release Note: It was said that part of this was not a bug actually, but rather miscommunication (The actual bug pertains to the achievement being obtainable before the content was released)

Southsun Events – Half (Or more) of them Bugged @ Release

This is the only “Newly Released” content I have experienced myself, as I was leveling when Southsun first came out… After reading the forums, I now know that this is most definitely not the only content patches that have been released with exploits and bugs in them.

I’m very happy that this game has more content releases than the original Guild Wars, but you went from releasing content once every few years to releasing content every month. Let me give you a slight hint…

Moving from one extreme to another may solve a few issues, but will create new ones entirely. You need to find a middle ground…

That all being said, I recently had a thread of mine titled “Pull your skritt together ANet” pulled for having a “Callout” in the title… Specifically calling out ANet… When I sent in a question, requesting a response on whether or not changing the title of the thread would then make the post acceptable, I received a different response. That response being that “After reviewing the thread, it has been determined that the thread, worded as it was, is not acceptable for the forums. We ask that feedback threads are constructive and respectful”.

I have now revised the thread to be as constructive as possible, which was very little revision… Wikipedia gave a decent definition on what constructive criticism is “The process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one.”

As for being respectful… I have removed all blatantly disrespectful comments… Although I personally found “Pull your skritt together….” to be more humorous in nature than disrespectful…

Finally… This is not a world of “Goody Two-shoes” to make everyone feel better about themselves… Especially so on the internet… Also, this is a world where respect is earned, not given out freely, and to put it bluntly I’ve felt more disrespect coming from those in charge of this game, than I have with respect. Even still, I have tried to keep a respectful tone with my post this time around, and can only hope that I will receive the same respect in turn.

Any plans to bring players back to Orr?

Find a guild that runs Orr events and run with the guild. It’s a lot easier than trying to solo Orr.

I would do that, but I’d prefer not to quit my current guild… They are a cool bunch of people, but this is the only thing they -DON’T- want to do. Although lately, between getting made fun of by one of the officers for wanting to do Orr events and knowing that a few of the members condone the use of exploits, I’ve considered quitting. Also, I’ve not really seen any guilds on Yaks Bend that likes to run Orr events.

I see people in Orr all the time. Everyone I know does the temple and Arah events for the chests, and Penitent Path mixed with temple and Arah events and clever use of guesting is still the best gold in the game after COF path 1.

This right here is actually one of the reasons they nerfed Orr…. Specifically, the Penitent Path… I haven’t even gone out there and tested it, but from what I have read this path of events is essentially the same thing that the instigators were… Run from one spot to another, complete event, run back to the original spot, complete event, run back to the other spot complete event, and so on and so forth… Which is one of the problems I stuck in my “List” of problems… The Longer times between defense and offense of events, while there being just a few more events than there already are. Even still though, if this wasn’t touched and there were a bunch of people there running these events, it would attract other players into the area…

- Lack of Players to do Events
- Temples need to be a Foundation of Dynamic Events that lead to a True Meta Event
- The Risk is completely disproportionate to the Rewards offered
- More Events need to be placed, with longer times between Defense and Offense

These are the true problems of Orr currently…

I’m a late comer to the game, and I flat out -LOVED- the Storyline… It got me all pumped up about getting to Orr, and finally being able to play with other groups there. I was so happy to be a part of a game that wasn’t entirely about Raiding and getting the newest top end gear with higher stats the previous patch.

Then when I finally got to Orr, on one of the higher populated servers none-the-less, and I found out that no one ever really goes there anymore except for the Temple events. Even of those temple events, half of them are left out entirely, because they are “Too Hard” to complete… Which was a -HUGE- let-down…

Here I am… Wanting to actually experience the content of the End Game zones in Guild Wars 2, and I can’t even do that because it has been nerfed into the rewards have been nerfed into the ground. Why? Because there were too many bots running around, which in turn upset the economy…

This made me want to blow up completely, because the entire storyline built up to this zone… And then what happens? It’s a huge fizzle of non-success… How is that supposed to keep a newer player like myself want to stay around? I mean I understand that there are other things to do out there, like chest events, dungeons, WvW, and SPvP… But… I don’t really do PvP all that much, especially when I found there was an engi build that could 4v1 an entire group. Dungeons… Well, they are great and all, but it can’t be the -ONLY- side of the game that I come to enjoy in a game. Chest events? These events are a pile of rear ended kitten secretion… I mean seriously? Stand at the side of a Dragon and attack its foot until it dies? That’s just terrible design, but I won’t go into that…

I loved this game while leveling, but being someone who games a lot, I want to find a good niche to play in at End-Game… Not during the leveling process… The leveling process should be what draws me in and makes me want to stay until the end-game… The end-game itself should be what keeps me, yet day by day, I get closer and closer to just stepping away from the game entirely…

Removing Defiant from PvE would be a decent start, but even doing that wouldn’t work out all too well… Someone who goes for “Full Control” should deal with Diminishing Returns, both in PvE and PvP… Or else it would be obvious that it would become -too- powerful… Maybe make Defiant vs a Specific Form of Control only after that form of control has been used more than twice on the boss in the last 10-15 seconds, then the boss gains a stack of Defiant that isn’t removed via other Crowd Control, but has a 15-20 second duration.

It has pulled me away from World of Warcraft, and others away from all their MMO’s, but at the rate it is going now, it won’t even get the chance to really succeed.

That fact that you’ve been pulled away from another game, and so have other people, already makes this one a success. To a degree.

Also, that you’re here to try and push them to better their efforts is also a success, to a degree. You are still here and want more.

I really hope they can get to some sort of diamond-crusted, platinum-dusted success level. That would be pretty awesome. But they aren’t doing too bad now. Yes, they can do better.

Oh I won’t disagree that this game is definitely successful, and I honestly hope that it only gets -more- successful. I’m also going to say that I realize this game isn’t even a year old yet, and that I will definitely be sticking around to see how much better it gets. Also, like you, I truly hope that they are able to take it to a whole new level too… I just hope I don’t have to wait until I have to buy a new expansion for this to happen.

Yeah, the dragon fights could have been done better. Claw of Jormag is pretty close, but even then most of the challenge is in finding a good blind spot to sit in. I would love to see Anet take another crack at making these fights (ESPECIALLY the final fight against Zhaitan) more epic, but bugs and balance are much more important right now. As awesome as a really good fight against a dragon would be, bugs and balance issues affect far more players every single time they log in.

Oh, definitely, bugs and balance should -remain- top priority, but they should also come out with a test realm so that these issues can be solved prior to actually releasing content. Also, in my personal opinion, even Jormag isn’t all that great of a fight… It’s still the ‘stand at one side and auto-attack’ type of fight…

As for Zhaitan, I thought that was actually had a pretty good “Epic” feeling to it… Do I think the fight itself was good? Well, I’ll say I definitely think it could have been done better, but the fight itself versus the presentation and the feeling I got from defeating him? The presentation was fantastic, in my opinion… My issue with that fight is the “King Kong” style the dragon had, and the lack of abilities the dragon used…

Essentially the dragon came along, spawned adds that were in the end more difficult than the actual dragon itself. If you could withstand the adds though, it was pretty much a guaranteed win. I think that fight would have worked a lot better if we had simply guarded the cannon that knocked him down from the air, and made the actual “Shoot at Zhaitan” part take less time… Put in more than one way to actually attack him before he goes into King Kong mode, and that way when you’ve blown him out of the air, he’s already at half health…

Junior Flunky or not… This is entirely inexcusable… This game has -SOOO- much potential, yet the developers focus more on fixing bugs and nerfing farming than they do actual good content. Don’t get me wrong either, fixing bugs is a top priority too, but those bugs wouldn’t be there if they made a test realm like -every- other MMO. I came into this game majorly in the midst of southsun content… That was ‘alright’ content, definitely not great, and even then… It felt as if Southsun more or less just fell apart. I mean we essentially went out to help the Settlers and Consortium gather a whole new land for them to occupy. Then some major villain came in, riled skritt up on an unforseen level, then essentially went in and solo’d him. Which made me feel like… “Ok, the entire Lionguard, Order of Whispers, Vigil, and Priory couldn’t stop this guy? Even when he didn’t even have guards (Bosses leading up to) backing him? —-— Ooooooh Fireworks! FESTIVAL TIME!” Screw -truly- quelling the forces that he riled up…

All in all, honestly… ANet could go back on their promise to release new content -every- month, if they would simply make the content better and/or make current content feel more “Epic”… Quality over Quantity!!! The game has the potential to be the -BEST- on the market. It has pulled me away from World of Warcraft, and others away from all their MMO’s, but at the rate it is going now, it won’t even get the chance to really succeed.

I’m wondering here… I’ve heard that these dragons are truly primal forces, strong enough to stand against gods. In fact, after gathering the forces of three different orders, that have yet to unite since the beginning of any of their creation, and defeating just one of the dragons, the entire world Tyria decided that it would be time to hold a Festival to “Bash the Dragons”.

But let me get this right, the true weakness of the dragons is not some powerful artifact, or the summoning and retrieving the blessing from one of the six gods. Their true weakness is their sense of direction and peripheral vision, or rather lack thereof? I mean stand at the side of a Dragon and a mere few half-kitten adventurers can simply slaughter dragons as if fighting skritt.

And this is supposed to be an “Epic” or “Legendary” adventure? I’ve fought kobolds in pen and paper games that felt more epic than this skritt…

There doesn’t have to be a bunch of adds, or even really a heightened difficulty… Throw in a few transitions, phases, and capture zones with a small amount of adds… And BLAM… You’ve got yourself a whole new epic outcome, instead of just… “Stand at side of boss and auto-attack”. Also, adding in the ability to “Engage” a 2nd level of difficulty (via the Heart in the Final Phase), you can reward those who -do- truly want to take the difficulty to a new level, by rewarding them with a chest separate from the boss entirely. It also allows players who want to engage in a separate level of difficulty to do so, without forcing the other players to do so as well…

Now, what I have recommended, I honestly never expect to see to come to pass… However, the reason I have posted this topic is not because I want to see it come to pass, but because I want to spark a discussion about -HOW- these events can be improved… As I said before… I constantly see that players want to see improvement on how epic these Dragon Fights (And World Boss fights in general) truly are… Yet I see no real recommendations on how to do so. Hence, why I have started this topic… I want to discuss ways on how to actually improve these fights, instead of people just saying “It needs improvement, but I don’t know how”.

First and foremost…. Require that there be people in front of the boss… Guardians or Warriors, who can take a decent amount of dmg… Or perhaps even a mesmer to reflect or a ranger’s pet in case there -aren’t- any of those heavily armored individuals. Basically -require- that someone be in front of the dragon at all times… To do this, a “Capture” zone needs to be placed there… If no one alive resides inside that capture zone, then have the dragon start doing a massive, large scale AoE. This will make it seem like… “Ok, the dragon actually isn’t a complete fool to utterly ignore the people at his side doing all the dmg”.

Secondly, have multiple Phases… Just like the Claw of Jormag has 2 -truly- different phases, make all the dragons have multiple phases. Also include actual transitional phases… An example of which would be… At 60% health, the Shatterer takes flight, and begins to raise Branded Foes in certain areas around “Shattered Crystals”. Lay down 3 Shattered Crystals that would reside -under- the boss, where all three must be engaged at the same time. This would require the group to split up, and engage all three crystals, killing off foes as they came in. Also, if the entire group attempts to -zerg- the crystals moving from one to the next, then the Branded Creatures would simply enter the “Capture” zone of the Shattered Crystals and raise it back up. During this transitional phase, if a Crystal is recharged, the boss would gain back 10% of it’s health. Also, make it so that during this transitional phase, one of the crystals would be chosen at random, and while players reside inside the capture zone of that single crystal, there would randomly be players that actually get turned against their allies. They would lose control of their character temporarily, they go to full health, their health and dmg gets doubled, and the only way to come out of being “Branded” would be to go down to half health. At which point, the character regains control of their character, back at full health (Since their health doubled when they were branded). This entire time during the transitional phase, all players residing in the capture zones are under attack from the branded that are being raised from the Shatterer.

At this point, once all three crystals are taken down, the Shatterer will land, and provided that none of the crystals recharged and he gained health back, then the boss would continue forward and begin a second phase… During this phase, it would identical to the first phase, except now the players will need to deal with any remaining Branded from the transition.

The players take down any of those additional “Branded”, then switch back to the boss, and drill him down to 30%. At which point, he performs the exact same transition phase as the first time… And again, provided all three “Shattered Crystals” get destroyed, the Shatterer lands. Maybe during this transitional phase, make it so that 2 of the crystals get selected for having the ability to turn a player, or two, against their allies, instead of just 1 crystal. Then comes the final phase…

At which point, the “Heart” of the Shatterer drops from his still somehow living body, and appears to be a Shattered Crystal. Destroying this crystal would not be required, however doing so would deal 10% of the Shatterer’s total health, in damage, to him. Also providing a damage buff, or maybe stunning the Shatterer all together? However, this final phase, unlike the first 2 real “Phases”, there are Branded that will come to the Shatterer’s aid, and begin to attack the players…

Please note, I am not saying stick a -CRAP- ton of Branded Creatures in there like has been done with Grenth, with Spiders… Maybe make it a -CRAP- ton if you include the Branded Creatures that are already attacking the players in the final phase -AND- the Branded that are “Guarding” the Shatterer’s Fallen heart.

Ok, so the Fight between Shatterer and the Players, as well as Teq and the Players, seems to me to have the ground works for being of the most epic fights ever encountered in an MMO. Sadly, their current difficulty is lacking, when the Strat is just… “Stand to the Side and Auto-Attack”…

The Claw of Jormag is -somewhat- better, in that it has multiple mechanics, and that the boss actually moves and seems to have a 2nd Form/Phase all together. However, it is still a… “Stand there and auto-attack” type of fight…

That out of the way, I see this type of discussion going on throughout the forums all over the place, yet I see very little, if any actual suggestions on how to make the fight more epic, without making it hard beyond belief. An easy example of a fight being -beyond- belief in difficulty would be Grenth… 90% of the time, the players don’t pay attention to the mechanics, and just burn the boss… Then they get upset, because no one can beat it. From what I hear, it used to be easier, but that wasn’t because the mechanics weren’t there, it was because the boss died quicker, and there weren’t as many adds, or the boss didn’t do as much dmg. Perhaps a combination of all three?

So after some real thought, I came up with a good way to -truly- improve how epic these fights really are… Without having to modify the -real- difficulty of them… Changing the fights to how I would suggest definitely would make it -seem- more difficult, but it wouldn’t actually have to change. People would still be able to auto-attack through the fight, but have a sense of the fight being… “More Epic”

Brand New 80 here… At least… I hit 80 within the month, got my 1st set of Exotic Armor through some friends coming together to help me on my first day as 80. I read somewhere that there were twice as many events in Orr as there were everywhere else… Which completely excited me!

Now I find out that this supposed “Double” the amount of events in Orr has basically been nerfed into the ground by either making them entirely too hard, or not enough events at all? Why? Because there are too many botters, or too many ‘farmers’?

So what you’re telling me is that… All the original players got to get their ‘super-prestige’ equipment in a decent amount of time, but I have to spend 6 months to a year before I can get mine? When they got theirs in a matter of 1-3 months?

Please don’t let me down like this ANet… Let’s step up our game a little bit… Personally I will be starting a new thread about this and much more, but for now I want to keep it to -this- conversation.

No offense man, but saying that Path 4 is too hard… That’s just… Well, that’s just BS… I can’t offer a screenshot, but I can offer the testimony of my guildies… I did p1 and p4 on the first two days of being 80. We had a Ranger, a Guardian, myself as an Ele, an Engi, and one other that I don’t remember, I think it was a warrior. We did have an issue with the Dwayna boss for about… 2 minutes? Then I being the new 80 started helping out gathering one of the sparks. After I started helping, her health started dropping.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no intentions of treating you like a bad player… However, if a Brand-New 80 can walk in there and complete Arah before even doing Story mode on it in 2 hours… Well, there really shouldn’t be a problem… The crazy thing was, I was Traited out to be Double Dagger, with 0/10/0/30/30, using a staff, staying mainly in Fire Stance. I can only imagine what it would be like if I stepped in there with my current staff build.
