Confirmed authenticator not functioning for either the game or the forums

Well I don’t remember it saying bioluminescence color when I picked it but here’s the thing. It wasn’t a case of seeing it a lot during Halloween DinoDoll. It never appears in the normal game world period anymore. The only zones it showed back up in were the Halloween zones ie clocktower, pumpkin pvp, lunatic court, labyrinth.

Also it always showed on character select before. When I made my character and had no headgear every time I logged in I saw the red tips on her at character select. Now I do not see the red period, not at character select, not in a cave, not during the “night time” they only showed up in the Halloween zones.

I don’t even know what page this went to but it had 15 views….no one has any idea what’s happened to my hair color?

When I made my character I had red “highlights” if you want to call them that at the tips of my “hair”. I had a helmet on so am not sure when the color became bugged but now I do not have the highlights EXCEPT I had them displaying properly in all the Halloween event zones. Nowhere else is properly displaying my hair. What did you do to my hair ANet?

When I made my sylvari I picked the hairstyle that had red tips and was kind of spiky. But now her hair is all green and a different style. What the heck happened?

Ok as a leatherworker I discovered the Major Rune of the Engineer twice?!?!

One recipe is 1 Iron Ore, 1 Cured Coarse Leather Square, 2 Destroyer Shards

The other recipe that yielded the same rune is 1 Iron Ore, 1 Cured Thick Leather Square, 1 Destroyer Core

Is this intended? Because the recipe that uses glacial shards does not give the same rune using a glacial core and higher mats

Ok I notice there are some mystic recipes for sale that list two professions. Does this mean I have to have both professions to make full use of the recipe? Are they bugged and you only need one? An example is the Shark Statue recipe. It says both Leatherworker (400) and Jeweler (400) in the description. Another one I can’t remember which says Tailor and Armorsmith I think it was…

Any info would be highly appreciated.

“I don’t play X any more” does not mean death. It means you choose to spend your money elsewhere. How many MMOs have actually shut down all their servers and closed up within six months of release? A year?

I’d say pretty much every MMO besides WoW is dead. I don’t know anyone that still plays AoC, Rift, Aion, Tera, SWTOR, etc. I’m guessing the same will be true for GW2 soon.

You need to know more people then. I know plenty that actively play all those you named.

Just because the games arent as popular as WoW doesnt mean that none of them are a success.

It’s not that black and white. There are degrees of success, and the more successful an MMO is, the more likely it is to expand and evolve – into something worth playing longterm.

Lots of MMOs are still in business, but don’t make enough money to keep growing. Nobody wants to pump development money into a game, if there won’t be a decent return on that investment.

So it really depends on how you define success. Is it just being able to stay afloat? Or much more than that?

While to a degree you are correct there are plenty that do still grow, Anarchy Online had one of the worst launches in history, it’s still going, still releasing expansions, and recently I heard it’s getting a graphics engine overhaul. EvE never has had HUGE numbers but they still pump out new content/expansions regularly and the playerbase in EVE has continued to slowly grow.

Guild Wars 1 is still going so I think ArenaNet have an idea how to run Guild Wars 2 to be profitable and successful for THEM. See it doesn’t matter if players think it isn’t successful, if it sustains a large enough base to keep the dev team employed and get new content and still make a profit it’s a success in business terms.

Hey, rangers are players who need to AFK sometimes also. There’s not always a mob where I need to AFK but sometimes there’s a dead one there when I get back.

It’s not like a level 80 ranger needs the xp or the mob is going to loot itself. If a pet defending its AFK owner is an exploit then it’s got to be the worst one ever. I would think an exploit would provide some kind of benefit (other than surviving an AFK).

I play a ranger :P However I try to make sure not to AFK where I know there’s a mob spawn close. Also you can always put your pet on passive if you know you’re going to be afk an extended period. AFK for 3 minutes and one dead mob I’m sure won’t get us banned. AFK for an hour with your pet killing a mob every 2 to 3 minutes and you’re risking it.

EDIT:as for worst exploit ever not really, sure at level 80 it’s unlikely you’d be exploiting but at lower levels other games have used pets to afk level overnight. Can’t remember which game it was but one game had basically a dungeon/cave where you could sit down at the entrance, tell the pet to attack, and go afk while it killed every mob in the cave because the pet healed faster than the mobs would dps it due to them being spread out so always a 1 on 1 fight.

Before screaming at them to fix this let’s make sure you both checked the “Remember this network” box

I don’t think you understand how the list will work. It will be a list of passwords that are weak, ones that they’ve already seen hackers trying to use, and ones that WERE used not the ones in current use from what I read.

So basically it’s like this your secure password hj282j2jdd that you just made replacing 1234 is not on the list. Now let’s say that’s your current password. When you change it to another secure password such as “fluffy2j4r*^2!clouds” THEN hj282j2jdd gets added to the blacklist. The blacklist is just like a lot of sites that tell you you cannot use a previous password when trying to change passwords.

Not trying to be a smartaleck but basically you’re saying you purchased over 70 dollars in gems which would be about enough for 2 hours at what game programmers make. Just look at the national average. In 2010 entry level game programmers, those with less than 3 years experience, made on average 74,500 a year. Last year the figure was ~85,000 so in 2011 they made even more at entry level. Experienced programmers made up to 120,000 range.

Unless they are making HUGE sales in the cash shop I’d hazard that it barely covers overhead and new development, which is why Arenanet doesn’t have in game CS and doesn’t have a large CS department.

Also make sure you are running firmware 1.5 on the SSD drive. Tom’s hardware has a review of the 128gig Vertex 4 and performance drops way off if you have more than 64 gig on the drive with firmware 1.4

First time I fell off the Sylvari jump puzzle at the flower. I for some reason found it hilarious to fall off and splat right beside another player who was below me.

One thing to suggest here is if you have a Fry’s in your area or other store that will match online pricing you should watch microcenter for good cpu prices. For example right now the i5 2500k from this is 159

I know this doesn’t work for everyone since it’s a “in store only” price but if you have a microcenter semi close and a fry’s fry’s will price match. I got my i5 2400 for 149 months ago because of this.

EDIT: also Microcenter has a lot of stores in the US if you are in the US

Well it’s hard to say what your issue might be I mean some of them are challenging and even a little frustrating but I find myself able to get past them usually with a few tries. I’ve hit a few hit boxes that were a bit large so I was standing on thin air but haven’t seen any that made me unable to jump.

It isn’t a talk to the npc trigger event per se. If ALL the players passing the npc ignore the fact the npc says to them(and I do mean says it’s speech from the speakers) things like “excuse me do you have a moment?”, “can you help me?” etc then the event doesn’t get triggered it requires the players to actually pay attention to the world around them.

I mean I don’t know about you but if someone ran up to me going “hey do you have a minute?” and waving at me I’d at least stop to see what they wanted. If you don’t then you miss triggering the event because the npc doesn’t always trigger it. For example there’s an Asura cop like npc that will trigger the save the researchers event.(at least I assume this triggered it as she asked me if I had a moment then told me they were captured and asked if I would save them I said sure and got the new event nearby etc)

Now the next several times I passed that NPC she didn’t run up and ask me if I could help so there is a double random component I think to some events. 1) the npc that triggers them has to have been triggered to ask for help and 2) someone actually has to talk to them and say they will help

Granted this is theory but I’ve had two npcs do this and saw a little girl yelling to hurry there was a fight on the bridge during the defend the pack animal from the pirates thing in gendarren fields.

I can assure you they don’t ban for just standing there. The things they are banning for is if it appears that the player is using macros for automated gameplay or exploiting in game mechanics to let the game play for them.

Basically if when you stop hitting keys your character stops doing anything you should be fine.

I think there’s some kind of bug thing going on with the Diminishing Returns. I’d report it as a /bug and they can look into it. Especially since your friend got more of a reward than you did.

Actually the bug only happens on Dungeon instances if i read right.

I don’t think so the dev response I saw said they located one bug that was putting people in a perpetual state of DR. I’d assume if you are in a state of DR it would be for any rewards as they specifically said the DR system effects everything.

WoW took a lot of what previous MMOs did right, made it a bit better, more casual friendly, and hit upon a formula for success. Most MMOs since try to copy what WoW did but they don’t quite get it. Some are bad, some are ok, and some are pretty good and will be “successful” in that they will find a niche following that allows them to keep the game running on their sub model for a few years.

Anything though that is different has people who played WoW always compare it to WoW. What they want is what WoW gives them but better and I’m not sure that’s possible. Sure you can make some improvements to WoW but a lot of people like me hate raids and always have. People who like raids will always want games to have raids and the carrot on a stick raids provide.

I was thinking that while my main wanders in Orr or Frostgorge, any crafting materials he picks up will be deposited to collectibles. Once I’m done adventuring, I’ll switch to my trader alt, withdraw the deposited materials and sell it off.

Also, any deals that might come up, the trader will buy it off and retain it on his own bag, not the account bank space.

Does that make sense?

That makes some sense yeah. One thing is on the travel cost Blacklight mentioned the only cost is really heading out the next day because you can alway get to Lion’s Arch free. And there are several other locations I’ve noticed around the world with a TP npc so sometimes it wouldn’t be much travel.

But having one to store things in their bags yeah that makes sense especially if you are like me and keep getting so much iron ore that you can’t put more in the collectibles tab.

I log in because I’m having fun, I am so utterly sick of wow and blizzard’s direction I doubt I will ever buy another Blizzard game(still ticked off about the D3 fiasco), no I’m not 80 but I have at least 3 characters I want to get to 80.

And again to stress the point because I have FUN playing the game

You guys do know that when an npc yells at you or waves and says something like there’s fighting at X or excuse me a moment or can you help me etc that if you stop and talk to them and say you’ll help it will trigger events to start right?

EDIT: Not to mention the kill the troll champion event I triggered in beta because I tried to pick up this shiny troll thing off the ground

Riigghhhttt so all these threads complaining how the dungeons are too hard will just go away if they made them even harder, right? The point is in a game like this the only way the devs have to make things harder is either make them take longer or give the mobs a bunch of super cheesy mechanics that make players say “this is bs they don’t want us to do this content”

As has been stated they turned off loot for grubs. They probably added the message so people would know that getting no loot at all was intended and not the DR effecting them. It will go away as soon as they can patch in a perma fix for the grubs that were being exploited.

Sorry for the delay. I forgot to check LA last night but did run AC and while in AC I was sitting at around 70 FPS according to EVGA Precision. I say around because it was at 80 a time or two when I looked and like 78 another time so I figure in reality during the fights it was probably lower

I’d say you are overheating since it’s a laptop but may be wrong.

@InfamousD I’m not a dev but common sense would say to me autoattack to respond to that mob you don’t see attacking you. Ok; Autoattack to keep you alive while you run to the restroom. probably Ok; Autoattack to play the game for me all night while I sleep, all day while I am at work etc. Not Ok

ie a little common sense goes a long way, No dev since the days of UO has wanted you earning skills/rewards/etc while some form of automated play was going on. (unless you count EvE and I think they recently got rid of the whole learn skills in real time while logged off thing)

So you see the launcher and the game in your process list. I assume you end tasked them and then tried again?

first I’m sure you are running the 12.8 drivers with those cap files right? Next have you tried running the game on a single card? I ask this because sometimes if a game is not optimized for it you’ll get worse performance running in sli/crossfire mode

@Guaradan just FYI they did find a bug in the DR code that was causing some people to be stuck in a state of perpetual DR and have a fix already made for it and in internal testing

You missed a lot of people getting to 80 and the infamous Diminishing Returns bug on dungeon run loot.

Edit: Also go to Lion’s Arch. Pretty sure you’ll still find an overflow there. Also the DR bug is hitting people with diminishing returns when it shouldn’t be so right now some people are just hanging back and waiting to see if they fix it fast.

I am concerned as well, I have my 4 year old daughter sit in an event and hit 1234, 1234, 1234 over and over – she gets a gold medal everytime but was wondering if it is botting. I don’t think it is because that is how you play the game really.

If you seriously leave her sitting there hitting 1234 for hours on end…well let’s just say I hope you were joking.

As for the original OP and why this is botting. Botting doesn’t require the use of third party programs but if you don’t like the term botting then this would be Exploiting the mechanics of the game to participate in a form of botting (game playing itself)
