This is obviously a overall design choice of the pvp devs (like not makeing MMRs visible) and I don’t understand it one bit. Almost every MMORPG with arena type pvp that I have played you get a detailed score board that breaks out every players statistics at the end. There is some kind of namby pamby political correctness going on here centered around the idea that this would cause harrassment to the players who didn’t do well which is dumb. Its a vile influence on this game’s competitive side. I don’t know what else it could be besides that not to show everyones stats at then of the match. Players can tell who the bad players in an individual match are believe me they don’t need the scoreboard to tell them that so its flat out dumb people know who the bad players are and can zing them if they choose to be jerks anyway. What I want the scoreboard for is to compare myself against everyone in the match in a meaningful way. Its bad not have it period.
I wouldn’t play either one there are much better support bunkers. I never got the menders DH build some insist on playing it is weak against good players. It doesn’t have the support capabilities of an ele and is only a little harder to kill. Vanilla bunker guardian does almost zero damage and other classes bring more to the table again our friend the ele. I just dont see the reason to play a Guardian HoT or non HoT as a bunker or support if optimizing your success is your goal. You can do it and win but it will be against players worse then you are which to me is a poor gauge of success. You wan’t builds that can help you beat people your skill level or even a little better.
The matchmaking system changes but the only thing that doesn’t change is the complaints. Some of you need to give it a rest and let the rating solid up some. Some of you are just bad and still in denial since you had the groups banned your looking for another excuse why your still failing.
None of the buffs to Guardians were to dragon hunters. They were buffs to vanilla guardian support builds. How about actually reading patch notes instead of just hearing Guardians got buffed going into a match and getting killed by a DH and then coming here to whine about it. If anything DH are slightly weaker because they lost the daze on traps.
So you think you should be able to sit at the top of the leaderboard for weeks without playing and having to prove yourself continually? Umm no.
I was told that a duo queue is rated according to their geometric mean. However I’m curious whether there’s any restrictions in duo queuing; could a top 250 player duo with a bronze player?
Also, how would this affect rating gains/losses for each player? I’m assuming some form of ‘less rating gain + more rating loss for the higher rated player, more rating gain + less rating loss for the lower rated player.’
Would be great to hear Evan chime in on this before s5 starts. Thanks!
I would imagine that in a duo both players would have there rating effected as the highest player would. Totally takes care of any of these problems.
You cant blame losses solely on playing against ESL players. Many of them are frequently solo and a lot of there magic comes from being part of a cohesive team. Two hours a day is enough play time to be as good as anyone by the way. More then enough. ESL players solo and get stuck with morons and lose sometimes just like everyone else. Contrary to the popular belief a lot of people like to perpetrate it is very had to carry in this game as 1 person.

i have been playing pvp for a few years now got tired of pve. you would think by now people would not do the weird stuff in a match. like 3 people going home at start when their was no threat of the other team zerging home. or just flat out zerging and leaving other team for a perm 2 cap. pvp has been around long enough for people to know not to still do these things. even the new guys you think they would learn not to after the first few times. but ever single day it still happens a lot
Unranked is a cesspool of idiocy. I don’t recommend playing more then a minimum of games on it to keep your skill sharp.
I don’t know why some of you love the victim mentality so much and worry about stuff like this so much. Block the person and move on. Report them if you want to. A-net will ban people but they probably aren’t going to ban them off of one report from one person. The tools are there. You are questioning human behavior that has always existed and will always exist. My advise is to not get your panties in a bunch over annonymous internet trolling/raging. Your life will be a lot better for it.
A-net you are killing spvp right now with this long wait between seasons. PVP is awful. The population is tiny right now and the matches are horrible. The vast majority are blow outs because there are not many decent players and most people suck so the matches are garbage. There is no reason to spvp. All in all a pretty unacceptable situation.

I wouldn’t expect its for a long time. They haven’t even posted any definite info on any changes they are making except for solo and duo queue only for the next season. I would expect another month plus easily.
The results so far are ridiculous. 80% of people want only solo or duo queue as the only option? I swear if this passes they need to ban people that whine about long losing streaks next season you have no more excuses for your awfulness. I’ve never seen a group based games where they have banned queueing as a group (not even a full group 3 or more) in pvp. This is nutty. I am astounded it looks like this is actually going to happen lol. The losers of the world are winning. Also, why isn’t this a poll on login? You would get way more responses asking all players as they log into the game this board is a magnet for the whiners of the world and only a small percentage of the overall player base in general ever comes here. How Mickey Mouse is it that this isn’t a log in poll? This whole thing is rigged garbage. I’ve played tons of MMORPGs over the years and when they poll players it happens IN THE GAME.

No it wasn’t an issue at all except for players complaining every DAY since soloq was removed long ago.

Just seemed like the easier thing for people to blame for a loss than themselves. I just don’t see it as a really contributing factor. Of course the vote will favor it being solo/duo and people will find something else to blame.
You are 100% correct. Anybody can see at the end of the match who is grouped with who. In my personal experience it doesn’t happen that often at all to me when I’m solo that I face more then a duo as opposition. This is really bad idea imo because of queue times. If they insist on doing it they should allow less then full groups (including solos) to queue in a team queue if there is one like they did with the old group queue. I remember the old solo queue there were tons of people that cried about how bad it was. At the end of the day some people will whine unless they are winning as much as they think they should. No one wants to admit they aren’t good and plenty of players aren’t good its just a fact.

the reason is because they got buffs/changes on weapons like scepter and mace that generally were not used in pvp so people want to see how they are. Also Sword was improved (well the 4 year old bugs/annoying stuff was fixed) so its understandable that players want to see how they are now. Guardian is actually fun now since there seems to actually be a varierty of builds that are interesting/fun at the moment.
Those buffs were not enough to make the population boom by 2 to 3 times. Or shouldnt have been. Its stoopid that I am getting 2 other guardians on my team in spvp half the time. I know the buffs. They were nice but not enough to turn a class that was close to the worst pvp class to anything more then middle of the rung. All its going to cause is complaints that are not grounded in fact. Guardians went from a D- spvp class to a C+ or B but the numbers of people playing them you would think they were A+. I’d like to keep the modest improvments we got not lose them because of delusional band wagon rollers. I mean we are back to the pvp forum being littered with complaints about traps and they werent even buffed.

I know we got some fixes but they hardly were to the extent that the population in spvp should jump 2x or 3x what it was. Bandwagoners that don’t even understand what was changed? A lot are DH that dont even use scepter or sword. All this is going to cause is people asking for nerfs that are totally unjustified using the specious logic of look at all those guardians they must be op! The class got a nice smallish boost and that’s if you use what was actually boosted. A bunch of bandwagon jumping numbnuts are going to cause a bunch of anti Guardian PR. It’s already happening. If you want to play the very strongest classes/builds there are still quite a few better then any build Guardian has.

That’s faulty matchmaking if Zoose is being put into matches where he can win a pure 2v1 fight. I don’t count a fight where the second guy rolls in as the first guy is basically dead a real 2v1.
This wouldn’t work. 50 would just ensure it was only people that grouped the vast majority of the time would be in that. Your average semi casual legend would have zero chance of making it and thats the the majority of legend players and they would know it and it wouldn’t cause them to play any more. I just think there needs to be a minimum amount of games played to keep your legend status plus more rewards and division loss. Its all screwed up right now. You should need to play continuously per week game minimum something not to grindy 10-20 games to keep your rank and you should be able to lose divisions. Those are the best kind of fixes imo.

If A-net was to do a balance patch and thats what they did for Guardians I might quit this game forever. None of that stuff would be a needle mover.
It’s a pretty simple reason why. The vast majority of people playing this game are males including the people playing female avatars.
The matchmaking has basically been the same since season one with minor changes. Stop waiting for some magical fix its not coming. They have been looking at it for 7 months so either they are the dumbest people ever and can’t find any meaningful fixes to improve it or this is what they think is the best based on how everything works.
1.5 gold+2 dyes per tier is pretty good for penniless pvp players xD
Except many pvp players care about none of that stuff. There really isn’t a compelling reason to play once you’ve achieved legendary and its a problem.
I never vote for Foefire because its garbage. The Lord is too weak and worth too much. I would imagine its voted for because feebs think killing the Lord is going to guarantee them victory.

I agree its basically a lie. But what does happen in this game since just about any idiot can grind to ruby is people end up being stuck playing with people much better then they are if they play a lot since you can’t go down in league even if you lose 100 in a row. I think that’s what we are seeing in some cases when people talk about losing streaks.
Rangers aren’t the weakest class but imo they aren’t meta either. If I was putting together a semi-optimal type group they would be skipped right over.
People say “Nerf thieves!”, then when they get in a match with more than one thief “So who is switching?”
Well let’s be honest here, there are alot of wannabe Thieves who are really bad. If you have more than one Thief on your team, the odds are pretty high that at least one of them sucks.

Its because they are not an effective point presence that people get kittened when they get more then 1 of them on there team. How can you hold 2 points for a majority of a match with 2 people playing a class that can die to random cleaves and aoe quite easily in any fight greater then 2v2? Thats the problem with 2 thieves. They are a +1 and 1v1 class with zero point presence you don’t need two of those.

Why don’t you just stay in bed all day instead? That will take care of everything. You will never have to be exposed to anything that may offend you if you do that.
Can be dealt with but still dumb game design. Its bad because at lower level of play its totally brain dead. A noob will certainly be able to own another noob just by evade spamming. Its just dumb.
Been constantly getting lossstreaks in 3d division only when playing solo/not full party just due to getting players literally dumb or with stupid builds like power necro with zerk amulet or s/p thieves. Me, as cleric ele, and my warrior friend from ruby, are able to hold mid outnumbered or even win it, but suddenly we realise we loss 200/500.
I just ask for a feature that allows us to point out such players and punish them. For example give us ability to “dislike” such people, resulting in that if you get 3 dislikes in 3 out of 4 games in a row you are allowed to decide – lose a while bunch of 5 pips regardless of division protection, or be ring unable to play ranked for 24 hours. The goal is to force people either in lower divisions with their level of skill or stop playing and start figuring how to play, which builds to use , etc.
Way of punishment can be changed obviously, I just tired to point reasons for this. Just due to the fact that 99 % of toxicity in pvp comes thanks to such type of players. It is ranked holy Jesus, progress or sink to the bottom.
I doubt it could work quite like that but other competitve games basically allow you to report people for being really bad.
There has been toxicity in every pvp games I’ve ever played. Anything competitive really. Some of the worst abuse Ive ever taken was playing competitive sports. A line can definitely be passed but some people have to just grow a pair in general and not let themselves get all bent out of shape. There are tools to deal with it in game and A-net does in fact ban people for abuse contrary to the popular fairy tale that they do not.
Unranked is trash but I agree if you want to just play whatever you want and not care about the basics of the game by all means please stay there.
Why do we even bother? Leagues brings toxicity to the game and people are just farming the backpack anyway. Why not trash the league and just have the achievements to earn the backpack? Grindy but achieavable avhievements no matter how good you are.
PvP is starting to be horrible and I am on the brink of quitting.
Because some of us liked to be ranked based on skill. I could care less about the stupid backpack. Thats whats wrong with this game mostly is the playerbase. For the most part its filled with a bunch of whiny bads that think they should be guaranteed a 50% win/loss rate and every match should be 500-498 that they do lose.
Sound like a recipe for a 5v3 or 4v3 (with a free cap of middle) on there home point if the people you are facing are at least decent they will crack back and you will feel the pain of a +1 or +2.

I feel like im getting too wide a skill spread from the players on my team. Need to remove a deviation back closer to season 2.
You arent really supposed to be doing it mainly for the wings. Its supposed to be a test of skill to see where you are on the skill spectrum. Mainly you should be doing it because you like spvp. Thats the main problem with this game like 2/3 of the people that pvp all the time really dont like pvp all that much nor are they very good at it.
Yada yada yada the matching isnt the best the matchmaking isnt the best the matchmaking isnt the best. Blah blah blah.
Half the classes arent meta people are kidding themselves.
I don’t play LoL but they almost certainly balance frequently. The problem with A-net is they don’t nerf hard enough most of the time and they are the kings of power creep.
Power Warrior is not optimal. The class is only viable at the moment because of conditions builds. Grats on being able to beat people worse then you. I could play spirit weapon Guardian and beat keyboard turners but why should I?
why is it every time some gets their feelings hurt they come on the forums and com plain about the community being toxic? Do these people live in a bubble? Do you even interact with the real world? This game is way less toxic than real life or most other games for that matter
Because people have forgotten the art of “just moving on”.
If someone insults you in PvP – instead of going “oh that guy’s an kitten” and not minding it today’s oversensitive people need a place to vent because they’ve been verbally attacked and need to construct a safe zone in order to hide their fragile selves.

Grats on running in full premades all the time unless you expect use to belive you solo’d, duo’d or trio’d to a 94% win rate.
How is this going to be done the current system doesn’t really support it. First 500 to legendary? That’s not really fair and doesn’t really signify anything but who played the most first. What if someone was out of town the first two weeks of a season or couldnt play much. Someone outline how this would work that would be compelling or meaningful. I guess I could envision something where you could lose divisions and you had to play a mandatory ammount of games per week once obtaining legendary so you could go backwards. Something like that would be more meaningful then a cap.
It’s not infinite dodges and what you are describing doesn’t work against good players.
since necro with all his builds is back to “worse than useless tier” in pvp and as far as I know not really shining in other game modes either, why not adress one of the major designproblems in the next patch?

Despite all the nerfs I wouldn’t say Necros are useless in spvp. Still better then Guardians, Warriors, Thieves clearly and at least as good as Rangers and Engineers.
Thief is fairly hard to play and they are down toward the bottom on the power scale. Sure you can play one and be effective comparable to other people in a particular match. The problems starts when everyone is as good as you are or better in a match. Thats all that really matters is how you do against people your skill level or better. If your really good sure you can be better then a lot of people even of a thief but that’s not most people.

What am I missing exactly? Because I personally have no real reason to be all that excited for season 3 based on anything I’ve heard. What rumours are we talking about lol. Is this some kind of hope springs eternal thing? Should I be expecting more then some modest changes to matchmaking?

They don’t really want to buff core and the current elites are going to be inferior when they release the next expansion. It will be whats going on since HoT all over again. They want to sell expansions and the way to do that is to make the content involved superior to what already exists.
It is an issue its obviously broke and will be fixed. There are people abusing it on weird niche tank builds. Makes them super hard to kill in smaller fights. Its not game breaking or anything but there is no way its intended. Its not funny when somebody is getting healed for 1500k with pure of heart over and overa gain. People will always find a way to abuse something.

I personally feel like a lot of the thieves problems are the result of the people that play them. They refuse to use them in the way they are strong right now. Like half the matches I have a thief on my team they go to far point and die to start. I know its counter intuitive by thieves are not a strong 1v1 class. They arent really strong in bigger fights either like 3v3 or great too much cleave and random aoe. Decap and +1.
