LF CASUAL PVP guild. And I stress casual! No i do not have TS, nor do I plan on getting it. No I do not play at set times. I do pVP for the fun of it not the competitiveness. I spend most of my time trying new cool builds, but I do have some go-to builds that I consider myself very good at. I don’t do WVW or high end PVE, mostly just PVP or leveling alts.
PS me if interested. Just looking for same lax people to play with.
Title says it all; basically it would go something like this:
When attuned to fire: immune to the effects of burning
When attuned to air: immune to the effects of blind and weakness
When attuned to water: immune to the effects of vulnerability and chill
When attuned to earth: Immune to the effects of bleeding and cripple
or something along those lines, thoughts?
Amulets are just stat combos, they aren’t classes, they don’t all need to be viable. Celestial isn’t ‘OP’ it just synergizes well with how elementalist works, that’s not a bad thing.
The bad thing is that it’s the ONLY amulet elementalists can run. No other amulet works for them, not even marauder and certainly none of the condition ones.
I run a pretty nice scepter/focus stone heart build with settler amulet, can’t kill anyone but can candle 2v1 better than anything I’ve come up with. Not meta but still fun/viable
You never needed specialized teq builds in the first place. That’s why they got rid of them. You can run any build you want on every single player in a teq fight and still complete it easily.
That’s fair, do people still do them tho or have they moved on to raids?
Since the release of HOT, do people still do world bosses or have PvE’ers mostly switched to raids. I only ask because I’ve noticed meta battle has gotten rid of its builds meant for Tequatl and switched it to pure raid builds. Do raids have better loot that Tequatl or something? I was always a fan of the world bosses because it allowed casual players to engage in high end PVE, not everyone has the time to commit to a serious PVE guild.
Sounds like you’d like an engi
Soldiers also has as much power as berserker without the useless precision and ferocity
Bomb kit? DH traps?……….
Obviously this isn’t meta, glint and staff is for mobility, cc, and emergency defense/heal. Otherwise just camp in mace/mallyx. Surprisingly very offensive (for a tank build) against anyone without lots of condi cleanse. You have constant condi pressure, 2 blocks, 1 evade, and 5 heals. Only hard counters are condi transfers and really good ranged kiting.
So my go to since I’ve started playing this game has been LB power ranger, it’s probably the only build I’m decent at. I’ve been running GS on my swap for the block and mobility. I feel as tho my sword, while not as easy or straight forward, has more potential. Thoughts?
1. Marauder pew pew ranger (still my go to) IMO best sniper build out there including DH, only downside is you can’t really right on point in TEAM fights, 1v1 you can fight on point with GS
2. Anything warrior – no explanation needed
3. Cele ele – tempest still better tho
Ranged Condi weapon, maybe axe?
Rev bunker (settler)..
Nobody uses it, but it’s fun…..
Wow I thought I was the only one who used this build…
But back to OP, I vote mesmer (biased)
Just googled smite, looks pretty awesome. So it’s basically Lol in 3rd person?
I’m getting tired of cele reaper and I’ve been wanting to try out a condi build. This is what I’ve come up with so far…
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQJAbWnMbCtbidbCmbC0biF2hKu9r/9nKAKg0MaejUA-T5wFwAC3f4ZZAAPAAA
The two biggest things I’m missing obviously is what off hand weapon is best paired with scepter, and what’s the best GM trait in curses. Any other critique would be gladly appreciated. Thanks!
So I’m still getting used to engi and I’ve started to notice certain kits are better against certain classes, some almost even hard counter them.
For example, I’ve noticed bomb kit almost entirely counters thieves (unless they’re pp) because of the melee and range and their mobility.
Juggernaut FT counters hammer warrior because of the stability
What other hard counters have you found if any?
I don’t craft and have no intention to, what am I supposed to do with these shards? I have 500+
It’s crazy how everyone has different opinions on this, clearly no meta yet. Pre HOT I ran wolf and spider, wolf was great for 1v1 and spider for teacmfights cz of the range and poison field.
Smokescale seems like it might be a better wolf (shorter knockdown CD), not sure how to take advantage of the F2 tho. Bristleback is another nice ranged option, but not sure how it compares to spider, (more damage, less CC?)
wtf u talking about?
What do you think are the best pets for pvp? I know they nerfed smokescale to the point where they’re not meta anymore. Theres also a theory that ranged pets are far better because they can more consistently hit a moving target. I know taking BM trait line makes a difference (ex favors birds), but what about if you don’t take BM traits?
Amen, bombs are by far my fav kit
Flamethrower 1 is the best for “on hit” “on crit” procs, because it does 10 instances of an attack in 2 seconds, and each of them can crit separately, similar as grenades.
So things like bunker down, traights from firearms, runes with 1 sec internal cds proc like no tomorrow
Good point, I’ve been trying to perfect a bunker FT build. What sigils you recommend?
Can someone explain to me how exactly flamethrower 1 works? I’ve been testing it out and I’m finding that (in cele gear) it starts off hitting for around 500 and builds up to around 2k, then at the next autocast it starts off at 2k and goes up to like 7k, and then the third will take you all the way up to 15k! But if I break autocast to something else, say FT#2, and then go back to FT#1 it starts back at around 500. What exactly is going on, there is no mention of this mechanic in the tool tab
1. What’s the point of the healing power from Cleric’s when rapid generation doesn’t scale from healing power? Seems like only thing it’s benefiting is the med gyro and EG#5.
2. Why not use shocking speed since you invested in final salvo?
3. How have you been using sneak gyro in pvp? I’ve been curious myself
If you have the trait “uncatchable” as well as “trickster” does that mean every time you dodge you cure a condi?
So I’ve been playing staff ele in spvp recently and I have to say I love it. I do amazing in large team fights but the problem I have is in 1v1 scenarios; its not that I’m dying, its just that I can’t kill anyone. I feel like every 1v1 scnerario I get into revolves around someone chasing me around the map while I constantly kite them and heal myself. I was wondering if anyone had any strategies against specific builds in terms of dueling. Like…
vs power rangers: be sure to do ABC but not XYZ
vs condi necros: be sure to do ABC but not XYZ, etc.
I also came up with a build using a trick from Diva’s condi signet build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQFAWhMMKb23wuBd0ACAW4AQDoIOKIUeOMGSDA-TJRHwACuAAAeAAk2f4YZAA
the idea is the constant burning and blinds will really help out with 1v1 scenarios, the obvious downside is the lack of condi cleansing, hence the ether renewal. PS i haven’t tested this out yet.
So I’m trying to make a build that uses Cavalier’s amulet and going for big crits with axe’s eviscerate. I’ve come up with three builds and I was wondering what you think:
pros) burst skills have 100% crit, great condi cleansing with cleansing iron and quick breathing
cons) low adrenaline charge rate, hence the berserker stance
*also im open to changes for the runes
- http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNBHhNakpjyOLDxLEORDUFUIX8AQ9R045QyS4FA-TZhAABgt/gGnAgKeEAkXGAgjAAA
pros) 30 pts into discipline gives me a lot better burst recharge than option #1, great condi cleanse with cleansing ire and quick breathing
cons) the only way i can land a 100% crit on eviscerate is through sigil of intelligence, theres a good chance I may not time that properly 100% of the tim
*open to to change on the runes
- http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNAneTjMdU2ZnHGewJagfgCVMYOAKgqXdak7lBA-TZhAABEt/wIPCgKOBAkXGAgjAAA
pros) by far the most burst with 100% burst skill crit as well as fast adrenaline recharge
cons) not much in terms of condi cleansing, i try to make up for it with sigils of purity, shake it off, signet of stamina, and runes of melandru, but is that enough?
NOTE: I have not tested any of these builds, this is just pure theorycrafting a bursty warrior. Any input would be great!
So I just hit my 80 with both my engi and my necro and I was looking to make one of them my main for WvW, here’s what I’m looking for: Decent Mobility with the ability to tag as many as I can in zerging while being able to hold my own in small group roaming. Looking more for a bunker/sustain type build than a zerker. My pros and cons are:
Engi:
+1500 range with grenades
+ good mobility with rocket boosts and perma swift
- grenades are kind of hard to use, small blast radius compared to marks
+ already have a condi/sustain build planned out:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQJAqelUUpvrlYxdLseRCbBNqxAqJKyNWlPfgAkUA-w
Necro:
+ Much MUCH more aesthetically appealing than Engi
+ Traited marks have a huge radius
+ Huge tagging potential with epidemic
- Not much mobility outside of perma swift
- can’t think of a build that utilizes both condi damage and heal power
FYI: I roam mostly with a thief if that makes a difference.
Which do you think is the better at bunkering down a spot and why?
In your opinion, what do you think the easiest professions and builds to pvp with, not exactly whats OP at the moment
So after playing my warrior in wvw for about my month now, I’ve determined I NEED a build that has a ranged option. So I’ve found 2 options online that incorporate a rifle or lb, the 2x sword/lb condi build I’m sure you’ve all seen, and the salvation build (gs/rif), heres the link
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/88502-salvation-build-gs-rifle-patch-dec10th-2013/
I have not played the condi build at all but I have been playing the salvation build for a while. It does very well in terms of bursting enemies down (I run about half zerker half pvt), and its still fairly tanky. The only problem is the lack of aoe is not great for getting bags and its not great against thieves. Overall I like it, but I know its not popular and people prefer the ss/lb condi build… so there’s probably a reason for that im assuming
So before I drop a ton of gold on a condi armour set and weapons, I was wondering which one you would choose and why? btw i roam about 70% and backline zerg 30% approx
PS warrior is still fairly survivable in full zerker, I couldnt imagine how tanky a warrior is in full dire would be. Could I run a mix of dire/carrion/rabid for a condi build?
Hey everyone, I’m about to hit 80 on my ranger and I’m looking for a good condi build for roaming thats also BM so my pet can face tank camps. The problem I see with the sw/d & axe/torch meta is that theres no real mobility for escaping. So I came up with two options…
First off I wasn’t sure about 3 things. How much HP should I be aiming for? I wasn’t sure so I just did half dire half apoth. Secondly, I have no clue about sigils for weapons. Third, other than Emphatic Bond, what other traits should I take in wilderness survival?
Now I know you’re thinking, really GS? I just think gs #3 is not only an awesome skill for escaping but also moving around the map faster in general. But the real question is, is it worth giving up the evasiveness and poisons of sw/dagger.
Snow Leapord! I know the 4 min cd is steep but how often do you have to run from zergs? Plus I get to keep sw/dag
There are obvious problems with both of these builds in terms of stabiliy but I think the 120s cd of RaO is just too steep. What do you think?
The main reasons are that it’s not reliable condition removal, and that you have to give up other sigils for it.
This sigil can proc and go on cooldown even if you have no conditions on you, meaning it can be a total waste at times. I’m not sure if they plan to fix this in the feature patch or not.
You also can’t control when it procs, whereas you can with cleansing ire or something like signet of stamina.
You also can’t take something else important, like a sigil of energy, sigil of fire, stacking sigil, sigil of accuracy, &c. This may mean you give up DPS or other important survivability for a bit of unreliable condition removal.
It will also remove only one condition at a time, meaning cleansing ire is a much more powerful tool if you get bombed by condis, especially since you could potentially use two burst skills in the time it takes the sigil to come off cooldown.
Warriors can attain near immunity to movement impairing conditions as it is, as well as a big reduction in general condition duration.
Furthermore, the sigil of generosity is extremely expensive due to the requirements for crafting it, though it could potentially be powerful if it throws the condi on the enemy.
PvP or WvW builds will still commonly go 20 in defense anyways if they want the adrenal health trait, which would take 15 points.
EDIT: It might be a bit more workable with the upcoming changes since there won’t be cooldown conflicts, and it will be based on-hit instead of on-crit.
I gotcha, is it also shared cooldown. Like can I cleanse I condi with sword#1 then a second with sword#2, and lastly switch to longbow to cleanse condi #3?
I don’t know how I just came across this sigil. How are these two not the best sigils in the game? Lets say you have 50%+ crit with fury up, that gives you a 30%+ chance to cure a condition every hit. With Sigil of Generosity, it will transfer the condition to your enemy. Is this not much much better than cleansing ire? Does this mean you do not have to go 20 points deep into defense for all pvp builds? Even despite the 10s cooldown

When you say things like “they forced everyone to play dps” and “whats better than 5 warriors dropping 100b” it’s pretty hard to take you seriously.
The point is – in this game you are expected to fulfill the roles of damage, control and support. You’re not thrown in to one role, you’re expected to pull your weight in all three departments. It just so happens that it’s possible to control and support in offensive gear, so people comfortable enough with the game’s mechanics choose to wear it so that they can maximise their damage output.
Secondly, warrior DPS is utterly average and a thief or ele completely wipe the floor with hundred blades.
If you want to put up with “lf healer” and being forced to play certain roles, then play another game. If you prefer instead to have a game where almost every single class is good in dungeons and can fulfill the roles of damage, support and control, and you’re willing to be flexible, then GW2 is the game for you.
It truly astounds me that almost two years since the game came out and ANet wrote in a blog that the new “trinity” is damage, support and control, people are still complaining that there are no tanks and healers.
PLAY ANOTHER GAME.
Harsh…
But I DO understand there’s a trinity of damage, support, and control (except I’m not 100% sure about the point of control since you can’t hard CC bosses), I’m not arguing that. I do understand that If you’re build can give out boons X and Y to your allies you better kitten well be spamming these whenever theyre off cd, all while dpsing the hell out of mobs. But maybe I should have rephrased myself… I’m not talking about being pigeon holed into a dps role (I understand everyone should be doing all 3 roles), but rather being pigeon holed into fell zerker gear.
For example warrior’s are fully expected to “support” the group with their shouts and banners. But there’s a huge stigma against traiting for healing shouts and heaven forbid they put on some clerics to boost their healing shouts. Or look at staff ele’s. They’re known to have the best healing skills in the game in water attunement, but even they’re expected to go full zerker. Why is that?
I’ve never played guardian but I still can’t understand with all their blocks, reflects, and other defensive skills in all PVT why they can’t play anchor. I’ll admit I still have a lot to learn about the dynamics of this game but that’s why I post on the forums.
So I’ve been playing GW2 for a couple months now and I have to say I’m loving it. WvW is fantastic and no other game has a better leveling process than GW2. However, I’m a little thrown off by the high end pve, dungeons and fractals. Forgetting about stacking, which I think is the most absurd thing in this game, I don’t fully understand why they got rid of the tank/dps/healer trinity.
In other mmo’s I’ve played in the past, I’ve always played the tank or healer role because I felt I was contributing far more to the group than if I went for a dps role. You know you did your job as a tank if you kept aggro 100% of the time and you know you did your job as a healer if the group didn’t wipe. But as a dps’er, you can’t gauge your contribution unless you have a dps meter, and even if you did you really didn’t make the “plays” that saved the day.
I understand the dev’s getting rid of the usual trinity, but as we all know this basically pigeon-holes everyone into a full zerker glass cannon build if they are to be viable. That’s what I have a problem with. It’s not so much that they got rid of tanks and healers but rather they forced everyone to play dps, which for a lot of us isn’t very appealing. With that logic whats better than 5 warriors dropping 100b every time its off cd.
Then the dev’s introduced the idea of condis (which we know isn’t as effective as power and crits) and boons. While useful, my problem with boons is that they really aren’t “plays” that save the day, except for maybe aegis. Regeneration isn’t as strong as hot’s in other mmo’s and aegis blocks the NEXT attack, not blocks all attacks for X seconds. The only “saves” I can really think of if rezzing your allies.
Therefore, some people may try to run builds that are non full zerker, such as anchor guardian or condi healing necro. But they will always be criticized and eventually the person behind the keyboard starts thinking “am I short changing myslef?”
Sorry about the rant, but am I right about this and is high end pve just not for people like me? Or am I wrong and there are non glass cannon builds that are not only viable but preferred?
lol @ OldSomalia, I take it you’re a Russel peters fan to? And I’m not asking in terms of “whats better atm or more fotm” but rather, which feels like you’re contributing more to the group? which feels more fluid? and more importantly, which is less squishy?
I’m thinking about starting a necro or ranger for purely dungeons and fractals at 80. I know neither of them is very desired but I already have a warrior, guardian feels clunky, and ele is too squishy for me. So is pet/minion ai ok in dungeons? and are either of them too squishy? What would you choose and why?
Btw I plan on running meta builds like sword/warhorn for ranger or dagger/warhorn for necro, not noob bearbow, etc
I to am curious as to the best/simplest build to get started into dungeons.
Hey all, I’m relatively new to GW2, about a month, but a seasoned mmo player. I already have an 80 warrior and currently leveling an ele. I’m looking to join an active guild that doesn’t mind showing me the ropes. I’m looking to learn all the dungeon paths, do a little WvW, meta events, and level alts. I don’t mind representing 100% of the time and would be open to guild missions.
Please post back or PS me in game…
So I just hit 80 with my warrior (first toon btw). I’m looking for a PVE build to start running dungeons and group events. I’ve tried all weapon combinations and I think I want to go for a hammer/bow build for all the CC and aoe I could bring into groups. Does anyone know if hambow is viable for PVE and if anyone has a good sample build?
As for utility skills, I want to go for a supportive type role to be valuable in groups. Would you recommend shouts, banners, or something else?
New to the game here and I heard the easiest prof to learn is warrior, which is also a jack of all trades, so I took one to 40 and am ready to start a new character.
I def want to go ranged for sure. But I don’t want to be a glass cannon, I want good survivability and cc options. I also want a lot of aoe options, not a single target type prof. I dont mind something with a learning curve but I want an overall easy time. I expect to balance my time with PVE soloing and large scale WvW, and hopefully dungeons if I get that far. I’m not really feeling necro because I’ve played the dot spammer in other mmo’s and wasn’t a fan. And if im not mistaken mesmer, guardian, and thief are melee? So I narrowed it down to three:
Ranger
Pros: Seems like the easiest with a pet tank. Good survivabiltiy from what I’ve seen. “Cool factor”
Cons: I would think pet dying in WvW would get old after a while. Heard they’re not welcome in groups often
Engineer:
Pros: Seems just like the engineer from warhammer online, which was my favorite class of that game. Loved the point blank grenade aoe skills and turret system
Cons: I’ve heard its very hard to learn
Elementalist
I’m not really sure how this profession works. Not sure how attunements work or what they are really but it looks like an interesting prof and I heard theyre really good if you get past the learning curve
Remember no glass cannon, just a relatively simple ranged class with good survivablity, cc and aoe for zerking and soloing. Thanks
Hey all, just joined GW2.
I have a lot of mmo experience, wow aoc warhammer etc. But I was wondering if u had any tips for people new to the game.
I heard rolling warrior was best for new players, easy learning curve. Any other do or do not’s?
Most importantly, I don’t have the greatest laptop, so what graphic adjustments should I make? I’m assuming turn off reflections and shadows? but what else?
Nobody uses it, but it’s fun…..
