I am a condi necro and I have a very difficult time competing against power builds. I very rarely see condi builds anymore other than the theif. Most necros I come across are power necros. They can burst me down before I really get my conditions stacked on them. If I’m interrupted or stunned by group of players, it’s game over for me.
Players that can clear my condi off can finish me off, though I can keep stacking the condi. But, seriously, I don’t see a lot of condi anymore. Everyone wants fast kill, huge power bursts.
I run around in dire/trailblazer stats and hear people crying and complaining about that. I have to say, stop it. All my 3k armor gives me is the privilege of being the last one standing in the fight and the one taken down by multiple players.
And there’s so much condi clear it’s ruined the burn guardian build. I had a torment herald that was fun for a while, but … clearing that torment off all the time made it very ineffective.
You’re either lying or we’re playing 2 completely different games. Power builds are basically extinct in wvw now. Even for zerging, the meta is all condi now. In roaming, its nothing but condi on every class. I haven’t come across a single player aside from myself using a power build in the past 6 months because of the fact condi is so overpowered and zero risk/high reward now. If you’re not lying, then what server are you on? Because I may have to transfer there if you somehow are in the one place that isn’t infested with cancer.
Not lying, just my observations. I’m on Emhry Bay. We’re always some server’s guest. I’ll say in zergs there are quite a bit of conditions in the zergs. I don’t play in zergs or follow zergs. I’m only speaking about the players I encounter at camps or monuments or sentries along the way. I would love to encounter a condi build so I can send their conditions right back to them! Most of the necros I encounter are power reapers with seemingly perma shrouds. Even a lot of the Mesmers I see are power mesmers that just power shatter shatter shatter over and over and over. The eles, power. I’ve even experimented with condition versus power on my ele and power eles are awesome. Their overloads are painful.
But if you are all talking about zergs, yes, I’m aware how strong the conditions are in zergs, but I don’t play in zergs. I like to run around with my partner (a power necro) and have work on our reward tracks and skirmish with enemies we run into.
I don’t really consider myself a “great” necro, but I will hurt you if you run into me. But if you’re power, you will probably kill me. It will take a while, but as long as you clear, you can get the better of me.
When Guild Wars 2 became free to play, it may have broadened the player base a little bit. But, free players don’t tend to spend money on games. It’s not like broadening the player base by making game free to play will affect the bottom line, is it?
I spend my time in Guild Wars 2 working on achievements mostly and keeping up with story on multiple characters. WvW is a big part of my game time. Dungeons and Fractals, however, are not. I should get into those more, but I don’t know how to do any of them and I can’t get drag a party down with my noobness.

I got hit by ghost thief in WvW the other day. At first I thought I stepped into some kind of trap. But, my health kept going down and going down. I had to put my marks on the ground on me and the attacks stopped.
Perma stealth, never saw what was hitting me. I had to look at combat log to really see. I’ve never played a game where a stealth class can attack while in stealth. Usually for balance purposes, stealth class chars come out of stealth when they attack.
I’m sure there’s all kinds of “counters” for perma stealth in this game, but I don’t know what they are. I’ve read what a few have said in here about it. I think my marks were a good counter. It really got this stealth player off me and I went on about my business.
Lol, I came in this thread and hoped to see vid too and … none yet. haha
So wait… I’ve been doing it wrong by asking the devs to actually come up with a different ruleset for soft condis and hard cc? So that must mean I was also wrong asking for condi damage to be offset by a core character stat and improve condi clears too?
The light fields… all makes sense now in gw2… blast the light fields…
Mind is blown
As a condi necro, it’s very challenging getting all my condi stacked and keeping it on and stacked with a lot of condi clear in game. I don’t understand how anyone could think there is inadequate condi clear to counter conditions.
Now, a class that can do damage in stealth and stay in stealth and keep damaging and doing condition damage in stealth, that’s a whole other story.
I have a lot of respect for elementalist/tempists in wvw. They are so powerful if you can’t get up on them. The eles I run into are good players that know their class and burn my butt a lot.
I’ve been crying on this mission too. But, I’ve overcome some of the issues and finished it twice on 2 different characters.
First, if you go to youtube, players are posting vids of them solo’g the boss. I watched one of a daredevil theif.
Second, if you don’t like canach, then choose to take Caithe and Braham with you. You will then fight the Pale Tree instead of a blighted Canach.
Taking Brahm with you is no picnic fighting Eir and Garm either, but doable.
I’m wondering what “condi burst” is. My condi takes time to build up while solid zerk power builds burst me down.
I build appropriately, to survive long enough to get my conditions built up, keep stacking as long as I can before the power builds burst me down, get my shroud up asap to try to hang on a little longer while it’s being power burst down.
But, if I do stack the conditions, which is not easy, they are effective. But, I wouldn’t consider them “burst.”
So, I’m wondering what “condi burst” is so I can rework it in my build.
I can’t understand all the QQ’g and crying and whining about HoT. I LOVE the HoT specialization lines. They made our characters awesome. Any kind of character improvement is welcome to me. And all I see here are people crying about take HoT away it’s too OP, it’s too strong.
Anet, HoT is awesome and LEAVE IT ALONE!
I’m playing on necromancer, but I agree with you on the mobility issue. I prefer my shroud to reaper shroud. When the reaper trait line came out, let’s face it, it’s a melee line. Greatsword to melee with and reaper shroud is melee too. You have to be right up on them and duke it out in the reaper shroud.
So, I don’t use my reaper trait line. Although I do love Rise and the chills. But, for me and my play style, I don’t like the melee aspect of it.
Thank you all. I have finished the instance now twice on 2 of my characters. The problem with the glider was my bungling. Once I got advice and took it, it worked every time for me now.
Thank you all again.
Why will the gliders not freaking deploy reliably in Hearts & Minds? Is it designed for challenge purposes to make the last chapter so hard? Is it meant to be like that to marginalize the team? Is it a bug? Here I am sitting in the “penalty box” unable to revive and go help my team.
I have not been able to successfully complete this chapter because I can’t get my glider to open.
Thanks. Really appreciate it. End of rant.
The problem with those two classes are not the class itself but the mechanics that can be abused in some builds:
- highest mobility in game
- Highest active defense uptime in game
- Highest damage in game.
Thieves get the same armor rating as an engineer still has a massive amount of damage plus abuse of stealth, which has no counter.
If put together with spamming dodges and evades plus a massive burst that can end most of professions in a couple of seconds you see there is something broken.
No class should be able to have so many defenses and so much damage.
Stealth has counters. You mentioned one of the classes that can counter it in your post.
I will also assure you that stealth is NOT immunity like those invulns. A Good many thieves will die while stealthed.
Only counter there is against stealth is big aoe reveal or a long lasting target reveal.
There are only 2 classes With a somehow effective means to fight stealth is DH and Scrapper. Any other class in this game does not have a real counter against it.
A short stealth from time to time is ok, being able to damage from stealth or stay hidden forever is not.
But if at least the thief should trade mobility/defenses for stealth, or damage for mobility and stealth it would seem balanced. However it is not the case and the only thing that limits the impact of the thief in wvw it is just and only that it is single target.
Exclusively because thieves have to farm bags one by one is the only thing is keeping the amount of thieves relatively low. Otherwise they would be the dominant in any competitive mode.
I have never played any game where there is a stealth mechanic in any class that has been able to damage while stealthed or remain stealthed for such long periods. This game is quite a departure from balance.
My biggest complaint with the stealth class in this game is watching its HP recovering when stealthed. It’s almost as good as having full heal skill. I watch thief youtube vids seeing their stealth and have hp regen almost instant and still having a self heal skill available.
Watching thieves able to escape damage by stealth only to full heal and come back with power burst. I can survive a power burst, but don’t have the benefit of having the almost full heal regen a thief has in stealth to keep coming back and back.
The only thing that even really seems to work on thief that I have seen is condi damage. Watching them running away, even with their amazing health regen while dps is ticking away on them is only way to deal with them for me. If they can’t clear the condi, they’re always going to die.
I hate “zerg wars.” I play with my best friend and we are always encountering zergs. But, we still do see a lot of brave roamers roaming along out there on their own. Some players definitely prefer to roam around rather than play in larger havoc groups or with zergs.
Tbh I’m hoping for like a minimum of 98% of forum suggestions to be ignored, so I’m slightly more optimistic about my chances of not being disappointed! =P
Me too. I’m extremely apprehensive about skill balancing because it always results in nerfs that make me furious. And I can read through the “double talk” by devs when they’ve nerf’d something very badly. I keep a sharp eye out for the word “normalized.”
There’s very few nerfs that I actually think would be appropriate, but are never addressed.
Thank you. I didn’t exactly understand what you meant at first, but after a day, we figured out what you were talking about. It’s confusing. You were right too. My partner’s Order of Whispers character apparently selected the novice pack after the Prisoners of the Dragon episode. My Durmond Priory character chose the Crusader’s pack. I didn’t even have a character that even joined the Vigil faction and yet I had the Golden Crusader’s Buckle.
We now figured out which of our characters started the collection and have been able to move on and progress thanks to you.
Thank you.
We are having a problem with the collection items for the achievement for the Scholar’s Backpack. After completing the Strange Observations story, the reward of the Golden Priory Belt Buckle is awarded at the end of the story, but was not added to the collection where it belongs.
This may be some kind of bug, but please advise how we can go about acquiring the trophy items for our collection, specifically the Gold Priory Belt Buckle.
Thank you.
To the condition crybaby: Vitality is counter to condi along with condi clear and health regen.
Toughness is counter to power along with health regen.
Build accordingly and quit calling for NERF NERF NERF.
Leave epidemic alone and quit CRYING for the love of …
Highest and worst damage ever done to me was vault, hit me for around 9k. I was appalled. But, the numbers on the screen shots in here are way more appalling.
As a roaming guardian, (who is partnered with a necro) I would sell my right arm, left leg, right ear, and left eye for mobility.
But, then the beautiful thing happens, thief bursts on me when I’m standing in all my traps and, WHOOPS! Dead thief, right? Nah, seriously wounded thief already way beyond my bow range stealthed, clearing all my partner’s multiple conditions, returning to full health.
Sighs.
WE HATES THOSE THIEVES! WE HATES THOSE THIEVES! WE HATES THEM SO MUCH!
WvW reward tracks with WvW-oriented rewards don’t encourage more pve players to come to WvW and work toward things they need. Right now, I’m in there for fossilized insects. Other times I’m in there for mats I need for legendaries. I’m sneezing on all the flax fibers I have because I’ll farm it. Anyone who can’t be bothered to go out and acquire flax fibers for themselves can pay me for mine.
This was my first win against a Condi Phantasm Chrono in WvW!
I killed him with a condi burn dragonhunter.
And he used to kill me for fun against my other classes and builds! They are not invincible after all!
\o/
Edit: Burn guard OP. Please nerf /o/
Burn guards are incredible, but the condi removal seriously undermines burn guard. You have one (1) condition you rely on and when it’s removed, then what?
If I could, I’d build a torment guardian. I’d tank it up and let them all remove torment.
Jim, you made me laugh so hard. Thanks for the laugh. You’re the best.
You think a 2-1-1 scoring system will kill wvw? i’m more concerned about the lack of fights in wvw and lack of growth(guilds, commanders etc) ppt is all about holding stuff and that’s not fun. Should be about epic fights.
You make a good point. Right now, I run in WvW with my partner working on track rewards. Since it’s just us two, we generally just run the circuit taking the camps and sentries until we fill up our reward track and get what we need. Then we reactivate and repeat the circuit until we fill up again.
Defending can be lots of fun, but, I need more incentive to do it. Objective defender, invasion defender, I do them, then move on to my circuit. I need more for defending then I’ll take a post and defend. Until then, I need to do what I need to do to fill up my reward track to get what I’m working for.
How can I have 30k HP and 3.4k armor vs a full zerk warrior having 21k HP and 2.6k armor and still do more damage?
Because conditions can be completely negated with the right build/group comp.
I’d like to know how my warrior can have 3k armor, completely shrug off conditions/cc’s and hit people for 10k+ just by bumping into them.
Maybe it has something to do with the ridiculous power creep they shoved down our throats when they released HoT.
I’ve been up against a lot of warriors and I know how tough they are. But, I’ve never had one, ever, hit me for 10k or even close to it. I’ve never seen them “shrug” off conditions.
Granted, I could be encountering a lot of noobs, but they generally run power builds and rely/depend heavily on their blocks, evades, invuls and resistances while they try to power me down.
In the end, what saves them really is their speed and ability to disengage.
But, I have been hit dang hard by a theif. The hardest hit or most damage I’ve ever received was from a theif using vault skill.
I have gotten 2 ascended weapon chests and around 3 ascended armor chests in the last six months. I have gotten about 3 ascended rings also.
These are coming from the reward boxes on the track. It’s quite rare, but they do drop.
Actually, I’m reading all this back and forth here and … I’m not so good at this whole disengage thing. I’m a DH and when I get jumped by a thief who’s stealthed and unleashed his whole burst on me, I smack them down to a quarter health and they stealth and disengage. Before my health returns, they unstealth and have 90% health again and are right back at me.
Seems they can clear conditions significantly in stealth too.
So all this “when they are OOC, you are also OOC” isn’t what I’m experiencing. They have to be truly OOC, not just stealthed removing condi and regening.
That’s just what I’m seeing and I’m not so effective fighting these thieves, mesmers or rangers. I’ll at least admit that. For me it’s definitely a l2p issue, but I do understand what the OP is saying.
Yes, please. I want too.
I don’t know if I understand your suggestion, Belenwyn, but if I were on a server and I wanted to play on the team, and the team was always full and I couldn’t get on, then I’d be frustrated and move to another server. Oh, wait …
I hate the blobbing mostly because I’m always on a guest server paired up with some other server. I’ve lost server identity. I’m unhappy about that, but Anet doesn’t care about that.
But, the main blobs that I see are always dominating the keeps and towers and the camps are free for us little roamers. Me and my partner’s wvw experience is limited to sneaking around the map, hiding, avoiding the blobs and taking little camps and sentries here and there.
We can go and challenge the blobs, but it just seems that ever since this server linking has started, no matter what the match up, my server and its host is ALWAYS outnumbered. The blobs vastly outnumber us and we aren’t successful in taking or defending the keeps.
So, we do what we can do.
I understand the point about it not being farmable in pvp, but maybe it would add to pvp or wvw participation if they added the leather items in the track rewards? Like a special track that would award rugged leather sections and linen scraps? Yeah, I would so farm it like I am farming the fossilized insects in Maguma Wastes track. And, I’m very active in wvw because of it. So, is that objectionable?
I agree with redzerofighter. (S)he articulated the situation that I am also seeing. Honestly, looking this proposal doesn’t make sense to me. It sounds like Anet wants to fracture the “machine” so it has more pieces (smaller pieces) to combine with smaller pieces. I get the idea, but I don’t see it as a solution to the problem with linking servers.
Server population is an issue that is difficult to manipulate because of player choice. Offering more and more choices for us is wonderful, but not if it doesn’t solve the problem.
I don’t even know what goes into Anet’s consideration when they even look at server population. What it seems Anet has to do is manually place the server population proportionately so it can service the world v world community with fair and representative matchups. But how can you do that without angering the players who are playing on the worlds they chose or who have the choice of moving at the whims of the players?
When Anet began all this linking, my server disappeared. I’ve been a on a “guest” server ever since. Does anybody remember Ehmry Bay? R.I.P.
Vavume, impressive vid. I enjoyed it. I would love to run into you sometime. You won’t be taking my camps. But, really loved your vid. You look amazing.
I wish my pull was unblockable. But, alas, I have a trait of my own that makes it so I can’t be pulled. I’m sure other classes do too.
Lately I’m only really encountering straight power shatter mesmers, and fewer of them. I’m seeing less and less reapers, even thieves are drying up and encountering more and more warriors and rangers/druids.
Now, this all could simply be that they’re all “in the blob” and I’m just not seeing them individually. I look at the combat screen and look to see what’s “hitting me.” That’s the best way I can tells sometimes.
The OP has perfectly expressed my feelings. I play with one partner in WvW. We dont’ like to run with zergs and we don’t like to be zerg’d. We are very restricted in that sense. The most we can do in WvW now is sneak around past the blobs and take camps, kill sentries, take monuments.
At first it was amusing when we see a blob heading straight for us. A blob gunning for 2 random players. Now, it’s not so funny. It’s not so fun. Even the “blobbers” can’t be having fun zerg’g on 2 individuals. How is that fun?
OP is right. I haven’t seen the name of my server since the linking began. I’ve been on a guest server ever since and tossed around at the whim and will of Anet with no consideration for quality of life for the player on that server.
But, I never voted in their polls. That’s my fault. Maybe I should have. Maybe I will from now on.
I bought the batwings glider pack. But, what I REALLY REALLY want is the lunatic guard outfit. PLEASE, where is it?
I’m just happy to survive power burst thieves. But, yeah, they always run for their life with shadowstep 3 and 4 times in a row with initiatives that never seem to run out.
I won’t even get into the ridiculous amount of stealth and being able to attack and deal damage while stealthed. That’s something I’ve never seen any stealth class able to do in any other game I’ve played.
I would love my DH to have 3k + armor like my druid. I would love my DH to have 20k HP like my necro. I would love my guard to have speed like my herald and Mesmer.
I need defense, not nerf’d defense. I would like my DH to hit 7k + crits on players like warriors hit on my DH, but I have to sacrifice dmg for defense.
I’m not looking for defense of my DH to be nerf’d.
Inventory efficiency is best solved at the gem store. Buy more storage. I don’t see them changing anything that might affect their cash stream. Wouldn’t we all love it if the salvageable stacking items dropped instead of nonstacking gear items and nonstacking green runes/sigils taking up huge space in our already overstuffed bags? All but Anet, I think, would appreciate that.
I’ve played MMORPGs for years and all of them have had stealth abilities in classes. But, none of them, for balance purposes, have allowed stealth abilities to persist while attacking — other than in this game. That is most perplexing to me. It is what it is.
However, one can’t say there is no counter to a stealthed foe attacking you if you have some kind of reflect.
I would love it that if in balancing stealth the developers could make the mechanics of reflect increase in dmg against stealthed attacks. That would create somewhat more skill and strategy in using the capability of attacking while stealthed and increases balance and counterplay for classes incapable of targeting a stealthed foe.
And, maybe they already do that for all I know. If you use attack skills while in stealth, you know reflect damage will increase 40% roughly. So, choose wisely how you play your stealthed class.

It’s tied to the same reason rare runes are virtually at vendor price,
The bulk of rare runes is priced at 4 times the vendor value of 30c or higher.
Vender price is higher than 30c for rare runes. I usually see something like 1s 8c for rare runes at vendor. I rarely see anyone paying much more than that in TP for rare runes.
I thought linking was supposed to encourage players to buy gems to go stack on the best servers or to get off the worst servers.
Am I wrong?
Herald has some traits that counter blocking. Devastation’s Malicious Reprisal comes to mind and Invocation’s Cruel Repercussion. Though I’m not too sure about Cruel Repercussion, it deals bonus damage on next attack after one attack is negated. I don’t know if the trait’s description is saying after a negated attack, next attack can’t be blocked because it has to deal more bonus damage.
Tricky wording.
I’m guessing all classes have traits that deal/counter blocks.
Only thing I try to do is spam auto attack until the blocks end. I have mixed results with that.
Good luck all.
I think Anet has a personal grudge against Emhry Bay and Dark Haven. We’ve been dead last for as long as I can remember. We just don’t have the population to deal with all the blobbing.
I can’t FOR THE LI FE OF ME understand how Anet put quad servers and tri servers against Darkhaven and Emhry Bay other than they must hate us both.
EB and DH are no longer linked together.
But the linkings continue and the gem sales for transfers must be steady as ever. Our guild would have 2-hr WvW raids 4 nights a week and it’s dropped to about one night, if even that anymore due to loss of member participation. The endless blobs are just pointless and I don’t even go anymore other than for dailies.
I don’t find condi to be as much an issue as the stealth classes’ abilities to remain in stealth.
I have NEVER played ANY GAME where a stealth class can attack and remain in stealth. For balance purposes, no game, save this one, has ever allowed that. I’m seeing thieves with the ability to remain stealthed and attack and stomp. All other games I’ve played understood that to be verboten in terms of balance. But this game and its developers apparently do not.
