Start using Sweetfx or Reshade and voila.
Doesn’t work with the 64-bit client.
F.lux is an option as well; you can get it here: https://justgetflux.com/
It’s designed to help maintain circadian rhythms by reducing certain spectrums of light, but it can easily be tweaked to saturate/desaturate anything you want. It affects everything you see on your monitor (not just gw2) but it’s not at all resource heavy, and you can always kill the process if you only want to use it for one application. I don’t notice any change in FPS using f.lux, which is why I prefer it over SweetFX and the like.
How do you teach a dog that what it does is wrong? you punish it.
Negative reinforcement is the least effective way to train a dog. I’ve been training dogs professionally for years, believe me. As far as people go though, punishment might work? I’m no human psychologist, but I’m interested in how effective negative reinforcement actually is. I could see it going either way.
You literally cannot change another person. All you can do is change your response.
^This is basically my response to any kind of hate speech/verbal abuse in PvP. If it’s particularly egregious I report it; if not, I just ignore the person. From what I can see, players are punished for behaving poorly. I know suspensions happen, but I do see repeat offenders back in game rather quickly.
I think the most important thing the community can do (aside from not engaging in verbal abuse themselves/not feeding the troll) is to make their voices heard. If someone is being abusive to another player, even on your own team, don’t stay quiet about it. You can offer support to the target of it without resorting to name calling yourself. If someone is out of line or being a bully, politely saying so might be the most help you can offer. Some people take things to heart rather easily, so just expressing that you disagree can be a big deal for them.
There are lots of very nice people in PvP. Unfortunately, negative experiences tend to overshadow positive ones. I run into a lot of jerks in PvP, yes. But if I stop to really think about it, I run into a whole lot more nice people.
In PvE and WvW though (I’m on Crystal Desert) I can count the nasty comments I’ve heard on one hand. For two years of PvE and WvW, that’s amazing. In that sense, the community is “the nicest” in my personal experience. And given the nature of PvP games, PvP isn’t terrible either.
Stupid foreigners never seen a real hyena in its natural habitat apparently!?! Believe me, the ones in the game are “pretty” compared to what they really look like. Not to mention that carrion smell about them…
It’s true that they look pretty gnarly in the wild sometimes. They’re subject to things like mange and other skin infections, injury, etc. I think a ranger who’s taken one as a pet would treat these things though!
Couple things, OP:
How’s your gear? You’re a recent level 80, so is all your gear level 80? What quality is it? That can make a big impact.
What profession do you play? Have you unlocked all your traits yet? Do you have a decent grasp on your defensive abilities? Traits can take a while to unlock with the present system, and also make a big impact.
Nothing in Queensdale should be killing you if you get the above two things sorted out. I have a feeling one or both of these things is your problem!
Any profession played well is difficult to beat. I think you may have seen more necros/eles/mesmers in the past few days because those professions were available as “daily win” professions.
Hugh should change his title from “Game Designer” to “Honorary Skritt.”
I want to preface this by saying I absolutely agree that the profession dailies need to go. I’m not defending the choice to implement this and I think it needs to be modified with the entire playerbase in mind.
Have u ever tried to play against team of 5 mesmers? Or 5 rangers?
But this. LOL, this. I’ve fought some teams like this, and it’s always so funny. I realize I have lower expectations than some in PvP, meaning I’m more than happy to lose as long as nobody throws the game. Even if it’s to some cheese like a single profession team comp. Teams like this can make me laugh so hard, because loading into a match of say, 5 rangers in Courtyard (here’s to you, Team Throat Yogurt!) is so non-sequitur.
The community has been so vocal about this, and I think Anet will listen (they usually do with important things.) But the community’s response in game, to make teams like these is priceless. I haven’t come across 5 mesmers yet, but I’d actually like to just to have a good laugh, winning/losing aside.
As salty as this playerbase can get sometimes, they sure are funny.
I’ve never purchased boosters, but I do get a ton of them from BL chests, dailies, and other random sources. And I do use them, especially the karma ones/magic find boosts for event chains, and the XP/killstreak ones for leveling. Sometimes the gathering boosters as well. I’m thankful for the option to convert them to enchanted boosts, because they can take up a lot of bank space.
Your personal dps depends more on the coordination of your group than your profession. Things like might, vulnerability, group wide damage buffs like spotter and banners count for a lot of it.
The best route you can take is to pick a profession you like, and learn how you can best coordinate your skills with other people. All professions have very good DPS if they spec for it.
And while we’re at it, all urologists should be locked up for gender based discrimination and treating only males! Now that’s a real threat to our equality and freedom!
Haha, females go to urologists too, trust me.
yeah, match 2 ppl with 100AP in my team (5min old accs).
They could have been alt accounts of veteran players.
If they were brand new players, that’s a good thing! We need more people in PvP. Why not try to help them out a little?
Combo fields and finishers.
Those are the coolest parts of gw2 combat for me. It would be nice if the NPE touched on those somehow.
Dagger Thieves
Sword Rangers
These two get my vote. Moreso the thieves; many sword rangers already run quickening zephyr. Thieves (at least the ones I play with) don’t often slot Haste. Double points if you use time warp on a signet of malice thief who’s low on health.
I like Skyhammer, and I don’t like being stuck in a 4v5 on any map.
If you hate Skyhammer with such passion, just play ranked. It’s not an option in ranked arena, and being that it’s the off season it’s not much different from unranked right now.
I dont think they ever heared of something like a hotfix.
They have. We’ve had hotfixes before.
I don’t think this situation warrants one though.
Go to Competitive section. Seasonal Activities
Thanks!
If you’re talking about a meta achievement, where is it? I don’t see anything new as far as achievements go, aside from the dailies. And no “100 interrupts” there.
If you have a bad internet connection and that’s your excuse, then don’t play a mode where your team depends on you.
This would eliminate almost every Oceanic player, lol. Also a huge portion of those playing on EU servers.
I don’t see why one would uncheck the filter then be offended by it? I smell a Liberal!
I’m not offended by profanity in the slightest, so I leave chat filter disabled. I am offended by racial slurs and threats of kitten (forced sexual intercourse, ty filter for making me word it that way), however, and that’s what the OP was referencing. The image with the racial slurs has been removed, so you’ll have to take my word for it.
I’m a Republican, in case you were curious!
Wheres the Warrior is OP thread?

eta: Oh, it’s closed. We’ll get another one eventually though, no worries.
(edited by Elegy.2159)
I know this guy! His language is insulting, but he’s not very creative. He said the exact same thing last time I reported him.
Well, with ranger’s Healing Spring, there’s a small fountain that springs up in the center. For necromancer wells, its profession icons appear in the center. I’m not sure if this is what you mean by LoD but there are the indicators. Also, if it’s a friendly field, does it matter which profession it comes from? Your pal’s warrior skills will never hurt while the enemies always will. Plus, how will you tell the difference between a ranger’s barrage shot and healing spring; two circle skills from the same ally, but with very different effects.
Oh yes, I know they won’t hurt me! The small fountain from healing spring is a particle effect, as are the flames from combustive shot. When using graphics settings that limit the amount of particle effects (to reduce lag) these tells don’t always appear. Using a blast finisher in a water field (healing spring) will area heal, while using a blast finisher in a fire field (combustive shot) gives area might. Two very helpful and very different effects. Usually I’m looking for healing – I know warriors and necromancers (just for instance) won’t be laying down any water fields. So if I could look for a ranger or elementalist symbol, I’d at least increase my odds of finding one!
I typically waypoint if I go completely dead in events like these, and yes you do miss out on the loot-
Does anyone know is this is true? say I did some damage to the champion troll but died and WP back and can’t run back in time.
Do I still get the troll Extracted Part from using the extractor?
You should get the extracted part in the chest at the bottom right of your screen. You don’t need to physically loot the corpse.
Hopefully we’ll be moving on to forks with HoT. Nobody eats salad with a spoon, after all.
Alternate solution: hobosacks for everyone!
Hard to come up with a good scheme to resolve the issue for all terrain types. Maybe some kind of orange + black-colored circle using stripe-patterned indicators for incoming enemy effects? I don’t think making it a different solid color would help at all, especially since terrains/textures can and will change and it subsequently may cause limitations in the future as well.
High contrast patterns would help a lot. It wouldn’t need to be something terribly obvious to people seeing a full spectrum of color, just alternating white and black ticks in a pattern. Maybe one distinct pattern for hostiles, another for friendlies. It could be semi-transparent even, it just needs to have enough contrast to be seen.
In situations like WvW/huge zergs, I often wish AoE indicators could also indicate which profession they belong to. With effect LoD turned off (which is necessary in WvW even on very good machines) I have no idea whether a circle is a warrior’s combustive shot or a ranger’s healing spring. Obviously, a profession indicator wouldn’t tell me exactly what kind of field it is, but I could make a more educated guess, and everyone should be familiar with the profession icons. Just for friendly fields I mean, hostiles can keep their anonymity.
ugh I hate Nvidia Geforce experience. Crashes constantly..
It has never crashed for me. Not one single time.
Ditto, I’ve never had a problem with it. Try what Healix did, reinstall.
LoL in the maps ive been people wont even ress the downed, at least some of you would help the downed, thats a little hope. I wish anet.net let us know how scaling in this event really works.
I think it’s a bit exaggeration if no one rezed the downed. It’s probably just people not paying attention. Most of the time I use spirit elite on my ranger so I can rez downed player more easily.
And it’s not like it is easy to distinguish between downed player and full dead with so many things going around.
Thanks for trying to rez! I’m sure sometimes people can’t or my small asura body gets lost in the chaos. Other times though, I slowly bleed to death at the feet of 10 different people autoattacking, not moving an inch. They’re suddenly aware of me when I’m full dead though, since I get yelled at to wp almost as soon as I die.
Your intentions may be innocent, but you’re argument isn’t valid. If you want a place to “hang out”, I wouldn’t use a custom arena because that’s not it’s intended purpose even if you own it.
See where I’m getting at? In terms of the code of conduct, it’s not being used as intended and most likely being used to farm dailies.
Playing PvP as intended can be “hanging out.” Custom arenas are for exactly that purpose – casual gameplay and the ability to join/leave or change builds at will. Nothing about that indicates “rank farming” or any other violation of the code of conduct.
Last week the bug was still existing / not fixed.
Ty for the update. I would say this is probably the justification for exclusion at this point.
That’s definitely good justification – but I hope it gets fixed. Temple is my favorite map, contrary to what the PvP browser says.
The fact remains that it doesn’t affect the engineer in any way by dodging thumper. He presses a button when you’re near thumper and the deed is done. You’re wasting a dodge you could have used on something else. Point still stands. So yeah, doesn’t make it any less braindead. And it makes it even better, as a decent engi can combo OS into thumper knockback.
There are countless better things an engineer could be doing in most team comps – such a waste of amazing roaming ability, imo. But that doesn’t make it braindead all the time. A bunker guard casts ring of warding with one button too. Area denial/tanking are bunker mechanics with good reason, lol. I’ve seen turret engineers play as if they don’t know turrets have active skills, but not all of them do.
It completely ruins matches regardless of whether you win or lose.
Agreed. I hope we don’t have to wait until HoT to at least get some feedback on this. :c It’s a huge problem.
Moreover, you constantly have people talk about how they hope the new pvp game mode will use pve armor. Yep.
Wow, so ascended grind can totally make a difference in PvP, sounds like a brilliant plan!
The price is high to prevent server hopping. If it were more easily obtainable, people would just switch to whichever server is doing best in WvW – kinda defeats the purpose of competition.
Please, no. So much no. Fractal skins are one of the few skins you can’t just buy. They represent time investment and accomplishment in PvE. I don’t have any fractal skins that I can actually use, but when I get a rifle or a dagger I’ll be ecstatic.
Hey guys I have this crazy idea. What if there was some sort of…. box that the fractal weapons dropped in, where you got to pick which weapon you actually wanted. Just thinking out loud here. :P
This idea I like though! There are so many people (myself included) who have had fractal skins drop…but it’s a weapon they never use. I don’t have a problem with them being difficult to obtain, or even gated behind RNG. Even just a few options per drop would improve the system tenfold.
When making a legendary it is wise to use the preview option….
Particle effects aren’t accurately represented in item preview.
I feel for you, OP. If it bothers you terribly, you can always transmute it and still enjoy the other perks of a legendary – ascended level stats and infusion slots, stat change at will.
The Engi was nice enough to stay there and watch me try to kill the turrets quietly, but he says he has to go now. I still want to find a solution to kill the turrets.
Turtle dragon, are you on NA? I’ll put some turrets out for you to pewpew. I really want to see what the problem is – I can even kill them on a condi build (takes a while) so I’m interested in what would prevent a 2k power guard from killing one.
Tell me more how this dark art works that I can do dmg and take no dmg from stuff.
Your best defense in berzerker’s gear is dodging. It’s true that you’ll eventually run out of endurance if an encounter takes a while, so having vigor or a utility/trait that refills your endurance helps a lot.
Go here to read about how you can give yourself vigor: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vigor
And here to see if you have access to a skill or trait that affects your endurance regen outside of vigor:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Endurance
Protection, stability, and aegis are also great ways to negate damage:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Protection
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stability
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aegis
As you can see, not every profession has direct access to these boons. This is why cooperation with other players is important. Guardians are well known for their ability to provide other players with defensive boons, but they’re not the only ones who can. Learn what party-wide buffs you have access to (both offensive and defensive) and try to give those buffs to those around you at appropriate times.
Other defenses are a bit more profession specific – everyone can use everything, but some professions have greater access to a certain kind of defensive boon/condition than others. For instance, as a thief, you have a lot of access to blinds with certain weapon sets, especially pistol offhand. CC (crowd control) is also useful, since you can immobilize or slow down an enemy, making kiting easier and more effective. Learn what combo fields and finishers do – using a field you might not have access to with finishers you do can turn the tide of a particular fight.
Interrupting an enemy can also negate damage – this is where familiarity with an enemy’s tells can keep you alive. Skills that interrupt may be labelled with something like “daze,” or “stun.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Interrupt
They’re just as useful in PvP as they are in PvE, btw.
And finally, managing cooldowns. This is more critical when playing against human players, but it’s important in PvE as well. Knowing how frequently you’ll need to interrupt a skill is based on your estimation of a human enemy’s cooldowns, or familiarity with an NPC monster’s skills. In PvE, stacks of defiance (yep, another link: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Defiance) further complicate this cooldown management, since those defiance stacks need to be removed for interrupts to work as intended.
Is there anything I’m missing here – or is the game really that easy that heals are not required?
None of this is “easy.” I hope that’s been conveyed well. Sometimes people talk about zerk builds as being “cheap” or “easy,” but they take a lot of skill to play without dying all the time. If you know enough about your profession (and in PvP, everyone else’s profession) to use zerker stats, you deserve the benefits that come from using those stats.
As I understand it, it’s more to do with thin red lines on green terrain becoming invisible.
This is indeed the problem. I have intermittent color blindness due to MS, and I usually just accept the fact that I die a lot when gaming during those times.
There are a few things that help though, depending on which kind of terrain the AoE rings are disappearing on. Playing with gamma, shaders, and postprocessing can sometimes make the red lines (barely) visible. It makes the whole game look worse than it usually does with vision problems, but I find it worth doing in some situations. TA, CM, and PvP for example.
I also tried a program with visual filters (SweetFX I think). Making the entire display black and white made it possible to see everything (of course, with no color.) It was murder for my FPS though – I could only keep it running if I got rid of other programs like skype, music, browser, etc. I’ll probably give it another try at some point. I’m going to choose music over seeing thin red lines almost every time though. It would be amazing if Anet could integrate something like that into the game itself.
No. This is what WvW is for.
It would just make things a lot easier. I mean, the whole point is to get at least three kills, or one capture, or one defense, or if at all possible one win with the right class, and all of that is harder when you end up on a losing team. It would all be far simpler if you could just switch over to the team that has their act together, right?
These things are not the point. The point is to hold capture points from the enemy team, until one team reaches 500 points. I understand where you’re coming from Ohoni, but your goals conflict with the all-encompassing goals of the game mode, simply because the PvP dailies are the quickest to complete. This is not your fault.
Please, devs, rework the dailies. They’re supposed to be completed as a result of playing; they shouldn’t take the place of conquest game mechanics. At present, there are two distinct factions in PvP – those there to complete the dailies (whether or not it means playing PvP as intended) and those there to play PvP (whether or not they complete the dailies). It’s beyond frustrating.
Try guesting. At the login screen, go to “world selection” at the bottom left and “guest” somewhere else. Hopefully another server’s home instance of Mount Maelstrom is fine.
As long as ArenaNet continues to ignore this blatant issue, there is absolutely no point in joining a hot-join match other than to exploit auto-balance for free rewards.
I REEEEALLLY wish they’d fix this. Hotjoin could be a lot of fun if it wasn’t about spamming “join red” first and conquest second.
Sometimes I just want to hurrrdurr some PvP – trying out a new build or knowing I have to leave soon. It’s not fair to burden other people with that in unranked sometimes. It’s such a letdown when I do go into hotjoin and it’s a decent match. My team might even be losing, but we’re playing to win and it’s a lot of fun. Then the spectator hopping starts and any semblance of a “game” just falls apart.
Especially with all the new players – fixing hotjoin would be well worth it.
But also from a development standpoint, if you are going to put a beast race in, you should be prepared to invest some time in making that races armor work properly.
I couldn’t agree more. What’s been said in the past is that Anet doesn’t want to devote the resources to constructing armor for a race few people play. I’ve never read anything from a dev directly stating that, so it could be player opinion for all I know. If it is true that few people play Charr, I bet a whole lot more would play them if they looked a little more polished. I’m hoping that with the expansion (given that Rytlock is playing such a large role) we’ll get some armor that at least fits Charr well.
And a bearded norn male could enjoy his armor with butterflies, too.
The funniest part of this butterfly debacle are the male norn who can’t wear it, imo. Given how connected the norn are to “the spirits of the wild,” I can’t think of anything more appropriate for them to wear. I used the carapace shoulders on my female asura for a while, and I was happy to have the male version. It would have been better if they’d been two distinct shoulder skins though. The butterfly version is unique and it does royally suck to have your character’s gender determine whether or not you can wear it. Especially for mesmers.
That’s what I mean by “all armor should be unisex”. I think it’s extremely frustrating in a video game when the same set of armor on two characters looks completely different from head to toe just because one of them has giant bags of fat on her chest.
This is partly why I gravitate towards asura so much. A few some Most female human armors are hilariously skimpy, especially for caster classes. This is endemic to mmorpgs though. That’s not to say I wouldn’t be thrilled if Anet took a different direction in the future – just to say I’m not getting my hopes up. At least we have some interesting races you can play as a female without looking like you just got off a stripper pole. All my human females are adventurers at least – medium armor isn’t quite as comical to me as light or heavy.
I mean, come on. This armor couldn’t even protect this poor lady from a mosquito bite, rofl.
Becease do they even drop stuff like exotics? At least when i open a champion bag and i get exotic i get that feel of aww yeah. I won’t use it but it is a free skin or some extra gold. Which i love. But how do you guys think of it? For me it really lacks that aw yeah feeling
Exotics drop from PvP reward tracks rather frequently, at least for me. If RNG hates you, do the dungeon reward tracks – throw the soulbound weapons into the forge and you’ll get something back that you can sell or salvage. All the dungeon weapons/armor are exotic, so there’s no risk of getting something completely worthless back.
what if i told you i want to dress like that in real life and i cant? and why shouldnt i as some one who would enjoy dressing that way, be able to in the game on my characters regardless of race.
As far as human values go, I’m on board with your reasoning. GW2 isn’t just about human values though – it’s about many different (fictional) races in a fictional place.
What Rangelost is trying to impress upon you is that from a development standpoint, it’s simply madness to rework each piece of armor so many times to please such a wide variety of people, especially when it’s contradictory to the lore.
Think of it also from a cultural standpoint. Asura and Charr don’t share the same gender roles and gender-specific fashion folkways that Tyrian humans share with us. Their culture is just entirely different. I imagine that Asura would be concerned that floaty fabric would get caught in machinery, regardless of the gender who wears it. Same with Charr – it would be a hazard on the battlefield.
What this issue is really about is sexual dimorphism – a phenotypic difference between males and females of the same species. The dimorphic traits that Asura/Charr possess are different from humans, but equally apparent. Different faces, bodies, tails, horns. The difference between the sexes is clear, if for some reason that’s important.
It doesn’t make sense to make this an issue about human gender roles, since they simply don’t apply to these fictional races. Lack of conventionally “girly” clothing doesn’t say anything about the femininity of your character (or lack thereof) given that human values couldn’t be less relevant.
Hey Anomaly,
Your best bet is to find a good guild. It doesn’t even have to be a PvP specific guild, just an active one. Even if people in your guild are new to PvP, chances are they’ll queue with you, be respectful, and maybe even learn something.
If that’s not an option for you, try to make some PvP friends. If you play unranked a lot, chat with people you synergize well with after matches. If they’re up for queueing ranked sometime, add them. Or if you get a whole soloQ team in unranked that fares well together, ask them if they want to queue again as a team.
If you’re on NA, I’ll be happy to queue with you! The times I can log in have been a bit sporadic, so send me a mail, we’ll see if we can be on around the same time.
Hm, lame question: why do people like Tequatl more than other world bosses? XD I only killed it once and I got crap from it…
huge amount of karma.
get at least 3-4 rares, good for ectos
min 1 gold, get 1 gold each different character, not capped at account.
Not to mention that it’s the most fun, compared to other bosses that die in less than a minute. And that tiny chance of an ascended drop I guess.
