ok- $10 for a mining pick that is SOULBOUND on use- that means, if i go through my usual phases of favoritism with my characters, and am suddenly playing a different one than i first used the pick on… i’m screwed.
if i roll a character 2 months from now, after the limited offer… i’m screwed.
this is a little more than overpriced.
Ten bucks. to use on ONE character. permanently.
if i want one for each of my 5 characters, that’s —- yep. $50.
really?
please make them account bound. ~sigh~
and yeah. i bought one. now i have to decide which character gets to have a permanent mining pick.
this is the first time i’ve felt gouged by ANet.
hmmmmm… was she fostered by sylvari?
>.<
lol on the name alone, it’s grand. i love willows, so two thumbs up!
mine:
necro – Darth Muppet (childhood nickname and cuz i always have one…)
ranger – Pyxxyl (cuz every version of pixel was taken. ~sigh~)
thief – Leet Haxx
guardian – Frosted Miniwheat (wheat colored asuran with white spots and white fro)

meh. just allow black lion keys to be sold on the trading post. people with rl cash can buy them to sell for game gold. one way or another, the keys would get bought, then.
as it is, i just won’t buy the keys. judging from how many chests are sitting on the trading posts, we’re not alone in viewing them as a waste of resources.
if i’m gonna spend rl money on the game (and god knows, i do when i see something i REALLY want), it’s not going to be on a key for a random chance at items i rarely want or use, and can’t sell.
~sigh~
just a thought, but how about charging karma for way point travel?* : )
it would kill two birds with one stone: people complaining about spending their hard-earned copper on travel, and people complaining there’s hardly any real use for karma at max level.
and… it just makes SENSE! : D
*those who don’t like the idea, please be polite. it’s just a suggestion- trolling is REALLY not necessary!
we get refugees in the real world… we come here for baubles
marriages- YES PLEASE!
why? because it’s FUN. it adds depth and dimension to a game, and fosters ties- keeps people coming back for more. loyalty is an issue for EVERY mmo, and gw2 is not immune. give people things that make them feel connected to the game, and they will keep coming back to spend their time here.
you don’t want your character to get married? you’re a hardcore pvper and don’t care for all that rp stuff? fine. don’t get married. no one’s forcing it on you. HOWEVER, there’s a HUGE community of gamers who are feeling rather unengaged (:D) when they play gw2- that would be the RP community. rp community also happens to be arguably the most loyal and staunch supporters of their chosen MMOs. Anet ignores/excludes them at their own risk.
same-sex marriage? who REALLY cares? we’re fighting friggin DRAGONS and KRAIT, and are surrounded by QUAGGANS for cripes sake! people are gonna complain about same sex marriage? ESPECIALLY when at least 1/3 of the female characters in the game actually have a male human operating them? i mean—- how surreal. i challenge any ONE of you to tell Logan and Rytlock they can’t get married, should they so choose. (when you do it, i get dibs on your suffz.)
anyway. it’s a game. we want this game to have a long, successful run. building playerbase and player loyalty is paramount to that. marriage ingame is a solid plus for both.
Ok, please bear with me here.
there are hundreds of items on the trading post with orders to buy starting at 1c.
let’s say i have that item, and i’m even WILLING to sell it for 1c.
if the vendor price for that item is more than 1c, then i CAN’T sell it- even if i wanted to. and trust me, there’s plenty little in the game i’d be willing to sell for only 1c.
SO.
this is blocking trade. if i have an item, and want to sell it instantly, these lowball bids (below vendor price) are preventing me from moving my merchandise.
please- just remove all the bids on the TP that are below vendor price, so that trade can go back to moving both ways. please. please. please.
breaking furniture in the shops to get baubles = priceless.
There are tons of fast respawning SAB chests in wayfarer’s foothills. You will spend a lot of coin getting around to them all if you decide to chain them though.
actually, they spawn in every zone (as far as i can see on my map). the thing is that they SPAWN. they aren’t there all the time, so you have to watch your world map (i haven’t seen them on my minimap, but that’s not to say they aren’t there- i just haven’t seen them.)
anyway
watch the world map. every few minutes, there will be chests that spawn all over the zones. you can see the chests in neighboring zones, even.
i get the best result catching them if i have the map zoomed just to the level that allows me to see gathering nodes. then, when the chests spawn, i can spot them quickly.
head to the nearest, or to whatever looks like a good target!
NOTE: they disappear from the map the instant they’re OPENED, not DEFEATED. so if someone makes it there and cracks it open, it will poof from the map, but you can still get there to perhaps help fight- and even if you can’t get there fast enough to fight the mobs, the baubles stay around for a couple minutes after the mobs are killed, so anyone coming across them can loot them!
my point: just cuz the chest poofed from your map, you don’t have to stop your hunt! you can still make it there to loot the baubles!
my small group of friends and i tried our first fractal last night. it was tough, but we made it through! we were SO proud! and .. yeah.. it was only level 1. with 4 of us…
it left me scarred, but not unwilling to try more. i mean- for the good of the group, since everyone else wanted to keep trying others, i’d suck it up and plow ahead, right?
and today we log in, and find this event.
and we’ve all been like kids in a candy factory.
you see: we, like most of gw2’s player base, actually grew up PLAYING those awesome nintendo (etc) games. we stepped up to the Box, and got the fractal-ish entry popup, and our hearts sank. we all groaned thinking that it would be content just too far ahead of new players like our little gang….
but we stepped inside.
and we haven’t laughed this much together for —-- ever?
we were cheering each other on, and telling stories about games we played, and even when we died it was FUN.
not kinda.
but REALLY FUN.
i mean… hell? with squishy walls and a swinging axe?
two of us died ON PURPOSE just to see that!
thank you.
you guys must know by now that what you created is a hit... but it's more than that- it's an entity in itself, and it's EPIC.:D HUGE CHEER
holy paradox, batman!
seriously, tho- i read something the other day that said maplestory has had the largest player base for years and year now….. and it’s only 2D.
the Adventure Box has it beat hands down.
some day, it needs to be its own fully-fledged spinoff… but in the mean time, can we please GOD keep it?
+’d and +’d again.
+10 for the new chest system for getting the rares/possible exotics to us!
HOWEVER
since that’s once a day, and now delivered separately…
why (and i mean this in the most humble way possible) WHY is the normal chest for bosses still only lootable once a day?
what’s the point in separating the rare/exotic if you can still only loot the boss chests once a day?
and now that there’s no chest reward for further kills, there are so few people that will even show up- we went from deluge to drought in a matter of hours.
isn’t it possible to make the REGULAR boss chest still lootable like it was before? every time you down a boss, you get some blues and possibly greens? not anything super special, but something to make it (literally) rewarding?
just a thought.
again- nail on the head with the separate rare/exotic chest! thank you SO MUCH!!!
unfortunately, it doesn’t let us see the current state of results.
meh, krait are cooler
pfff! as IF
thanks for the source quote, healix! great to know that fishing is on the radar! can’t WAIT!

this isn’t intended as a criticism. please don’t bother trolling.
one of the personal goals i’ve set for myself ingame is to have all of the dye colors opened up on my main character.
in the past few months, i’ve seen the dye drop rate from pve fluctuate drastically. In January, i and my friends would get 5 or more dyes each, in an evening of play. (that’s when i set the goal- when it seemed to be something attainable!)
in february, it slowly seemed to taper off, until we all went days on end without seeing a single looted dye. when we DID see one, it was almost exclusively when we were playing low-level alts in beginner zones, and almost always when gathering from plants.
i’m saying ALMOST. no hate for me reporting the experiences of myself and my friends, please.
As of today, i’m on a 4 day dry period on looting dyes. Not a single one. I’ve gotten my fix through a few a friend sent me, and selling off some herbs in exchange for a few off of the trading post. not something i’m likely to do again, but we should try everything once, right? at this rate, however, it looks like i’m going to have to abandon my goal.
~sad quaggan~
i guess my question is: is this ONLY my experience and that of my 5 or so close friends? is there something going on with the dye drop rate on anet’s end? perhaps adjusting it to find a happy medium? idk. it’s just something i’m curious about.
not sure i see a reason why the separate chest reward COULDN’T just be an account-bound chest like the black lion chests. hell, could even just make it a special “Platinum Black Lion Chest” and make the KEYS be the prize from the boss each day. can stack them, bank them, open them on whichever character you want.
not saying it has to be that way- just don’t see any reason why it COULDN’T.
they should try and put an effort into populating a “town” instance (in which players have their houses of course) because generally in a non-open world mmo(like gw2) the housing areas are generally dead. Set up some minigames like fishing in player towns or something to keep them populated, give rewards and achievements for doing things in the town on occasion to encourage people visiting them.
this would be very cool. a town instance in which other houses are owned by other players, and walking down the street you pass by homes belonging to them. having the coming and going of other players as you visit your home. being able to pop in and visit others’ homes and see how they’ve done up their place…
another game that has very good housing arrangements (though they actually have two separate types of housing) is Mabinogi. one version is rentals in a town-like setting, the interior of which can be decorated. the other is a more ‘private’ plot of land that can be built on, incorporating various furniture and landscaping features.
a hybrid of the two would be so very nifty!
i’m so very ready for player housing the more involved, the better! yeah, make me build it from scratch using nails i have to mine the ore for! make me saw the planks to build the walls! make it upgradable! got 2k extra orrichalcum and 3k ancient wood? great! you can upgrade to a mansion! >:D
my one and only real request, however, is that others be able to visit my home.
please.
juvenile moose. I just want that moose.
lmao
i’m so totally taming a moose the MOMENT it’s available :p
special skill needs to be ‘antler toss’- scoops up enemy and flings them across the field to land in a dazed pile. >:D
oh- and yeah, +1 on all the others, as well but i don’t just want a rock dog… i want a saurfang version of rock dogs! the branded ones with the lava glow in the joints… yeah… cuz my ranger’s just epic like that…. LOL (not)
(edited by Ent.1026)
GET RID OF COMBAT CRIPPLE…
lol this.
particularly in zones populated with wall-to-wall zombies. there’s no way to get ANYWHERE at a regular pace. spending hours hobbling from one destination to another is hardly entertaining … that is, unless you’re watching your FRIEND do it… then it’s hilarious! XD
i digress.
mounts. mounts are not fundamentally bad. there’s no reason to hate the OP for bringing the suggestion to the SUGGESTION thread. also no need to post reply upon reply about how it will/can never ever ever EVER happen. after all, this is only vanilla gw2. who knows what’s coming in the future? nothing’s written in stone. that, in fact, is something i particularly admire about Anet.
mounts are one of the most sought after perks in a game. NOT having mounts at all, ever, would be an interesting choice…
i’d love to see mounts – yes, i said the evil ‘m’ word- available through the gem store. in some games, mounts provide additional inventory space. the size of a mount’s ‘bags’ can vary depending on the type/size/price of the mount. no, they don’t have to increase speed. if they do at all, they could simply provide the standard 25% speed boost available to every class anyway.
just a thought. ~cue the ‘there will never be mounts!’ rants~
lol i love the puntable asuran >:D tho the backpack idea did make me lol, too XD
i really wasn’t thinking any kind of boon or perk from the interaction, other than sheer fun factor. idk- if it needed to have a ‘point’ to it, i suppose it could, but then.. dancing doesn’t particularly have a ‘point’ to it either! XD
but yeah- just to be able to right-click a norn and ‘request mount’— and if they say yes, they can pick up my minime and i get a free ride! visions of my little asuran’s bobblehead bouncing around on its little neck as the great norn warrior strides epicly across the frozen wastes….
(edited by Ent.1026)
now that that’s done…
:)
i’m thrilled to have found this thread. truly. ‘blinkbots’ (great name) have been a source of curiosity (at first) and wonder (at second) swiftly progressing to annoyance once i realized what they were doing. now, i make a point to report every one that i see- even though i have no idea how reporting is to be done most effectively!
i’d sure LIKE to know, tho.
at the moment, the only way i can find to report is to whisper the name i saw blink in (assuming i caught it) and right-click/report that way. taking a screenie has been pointless (tho i try to on the names that are harder to spell/type to make sure i get them right) since they can’t be attached to the report anyway.
i realize this might be asking a bit much, but a system for quickly and accurately tagging and reporting bots would be SO welcome to those of us bothunters out there!
heck, it could be a whole aspect of the game! after all, we have guild bounties for npcs! why not bounties on bots?
with that said, i’m just going to throw this out there:
an equippable item (like gathering tools) that one earns through some achievement (perhaps a gathering tier 5 or something that would show that you are active and invested in the fair trade of resources ingame-however that could best be established).
the item would allow you to ‘tag’ a blinkbot. Spot the Bot? Dot the Bot? lol much like the old ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ game. or ‘whack-a-mole’ if that’s more appropriate! :p
it would be usable quickly and with little hassle- like whipping out a bow and arrow, but a dartgun instead. ;D
by darting the blinkbot, the character would be tagged with a time/date/location stamp that would be flagged for review- effectively proving that it was in the place it was tagged at that time, etc.
no more guesswork.
the challenge (minigame?) for the bothunters would be in tagging efficiently and responsibly. to this end, anet could create imitation blinkbots to randomly appear and test hunters. bothunters who succeeded in accurately tagging certain numbers of bots could earn achievements/titles (taking it to that level may not be appealing for anet, but would be fun for the players!
) while those who chronically mis-tag innocents (bound to happen now and then) would lose their license to ki—-tag. perhaps with an option to retrain for it? idk.
anyway- just a thought. but some system for quick and simple reporting of botters would be VERY much appreciated!!

map: Frostgorge Sound
location: any rare node near Earthshake wp. most commonly Snow Truffle nearest the wp.
time seen: every day mid afternoon pst.
server: Jade Quarry
i’ve spent several happy hours reporting bots as they pop in to gather the snow truffle located under the pine tree directly behind the waypoint. have seen same names pop in at ancient saplings and orri nodes on the map, so can confirm that they aren’t parked.
map: Dredgehaunt Cliffs
location: Dwarven tombs
time: seen at various times of day
server: jade quarry
i’ve seen bots pop in, loot chests and pop out, even with the door closed (stayed in once just to watch and see if they kept coming). thought they were parked characters at first, until i ran into the same characters at the next tomb i opened half an hour later. as soon as i opened the tomb, they started cycling through to loot the chest.
@The Eternal Grace: Correction. A rather small part of the community is asking for it. The majority seems to be fine without. So it sucks that you apparently chose the wrong race, I am sorry.
lol really? because a) ‘every race change thread i see’ was something i seem to have seen up a few posts… that implies several ppl have been asking for it…
and b) um… you must not get around much. not being rude, but i hear at LEAST one person ask about (or gripe about) race change options every day. one a day, btw, is a high rate when you consider how few people bother to actually ask publicly, rather than look it up or ask in guild/etc.
c) and this is the kicker— really? i mean, you honestly couldn’t throw a rock without hitting someone who would like to race change at least one of their characters. the majority of the community may seem fine with it, but i assure you- that’s only what they seem to you.
regardless of the item used for an example, the point is sound: there’s too much of certain items dropping, which causes a glut of said items.
whether this is the blues that stack up by the hundreds of thousands per item (wow. seen that a few times. any bets on them EVER getting bought out?) or the crafting materials that aren’t worth the vendor price they’re forced to sell for, the fact that the SUPPLY is so high is hardly going to make the price go up.
should anet not wish to reduce the drop rate of said items, they can always adress the other side of the equation: improve demand. create useful consumables (constant demand) which require these components, or the salvage items from these overabundant blues/etc.
there are two sides to the coin: supply and demand. choose one, but- CHOOSE ONE- please. the market is definitely a mess, but if we’ve learned anything from the real world it’s that ignoring a broken economy will only make the problem harder to resolve!
(edited by Ent.1026)
meh. simple solution really. just make the pet stow function ACTUALLY stow the pet. not just hide it until the instant you take damage or use a skill. it’s a pain in the neck as it IS when you put away the pet to run thru an area, just to have it pop the second you get tagged. no, it’s not impossible to deal with, just annoying. if i put my pet away, it should stay away til I call it.
then, should people choose to play without a pet, they’re perfectly capable of doing so.
Both the named and t2 cultural show off a good chunk of your torso.
mhm. and i have her wearing the t2 set, but that’s hardly a solution. it shows the ab section of her tats, but the shoulders, thighs, and that incredible raven tat on her back are all covered solid. and not even with a highly attractive outfit. it’s one of the nicer ones available, imo, but that’s like saying eggplant is one of the nicer vegetables when you offer it to a 6 yr old.
i’m not saying there’s nothing out there. simply that what little there is could use some improvement. we have awesome tattoo options, and bugger all for gear that lets us show them off
seriously. they’re just begging for it.
asurans should be able to mount a norn. ride around on its shoulder.
heck, while we’re at it, humans too. just get tucked right up there on a norn’s shoulder and carried around.
and no. not charr. no one wants to ride a walking hairball.
just sayin.
i’d spend all day, every day there.
it’s interesting that you posted this a month ago.
i, too, care about the fights. i remember just a month ago when the Behemoth was a FUN FIGHT. you actually had to move when the air phase started…
now, he dies before the air phase even starts, lol.
the safe zones – particularly the one on the shatterer where all you do is stand there and fire at his foot- taking no damage and not moving- just for a chance at a yellow item you’ll just break for a glob of ecto anyway?
you could just as easily be searching google as fighting a dragon, for all the effort it takes.
the safe zone on jormag does seem to have been addressed, though. people still just stand on the ridge and die in huge numbers because all they do is attack the dragon instead of participating in the full battle, but such is gaming in an MMO. now, instead of killing the dragon in relative (if boring) safety, you now have the added entertainment of racking up a couple dozen revives.
thank you for posting that as my ranger is my only norn at the moment, i didn’t want to assume there weren’t options for other gear types!
Anet said at the outset that they specifically wanted rangers to differ from gw1 rangers in that their pets would be critical, rather than ‘an afterthought.’
that said, if pets are to be critical, OP’s point about the pets being weak and uncontrollable is very valid. a critical aspect of a class should not be something the user can’t control, nor should it be so easily dispensed of by the enemy.
on the other hand, if i wanted to have a ranger without a pet, i’d roll an engineer. the point to a ranger IS their pet.
that said, i am not everyone. why not have the full range of functionality that other classes have? necros can choose to not use minions. mesmers can avoid illusions.. kinda. engineers don’t have to use grenade packs. one could just as easily argue that those are ‘central’ to their classes as well.
oh yes, please!
can we put our minipets on it? as long as we have to constantly reactivate them whenever we use a wp or a gate or- anything?
other issues with the maw (just continuing with the OP’s example) – between the 1st event (protect camp from grawl) and the 2nd (escort scholar brogun)- people head out onto the ice before the escort even starts, and completely clear all the mobs from the ice. there’s nothing to protect the scholar FROM during the escort quest, as it’s all been killed already. lucky if you can get bronze by killing a moa or an ice ele at the end.
2) sons of svanir that he summons come in two spots, but both die so fast that you can only do one or the other, but not participate in killing both sets. one set has a veteran, so i usually kill the others first, then try for the vet if he’s still up, but he’s either dead or it doesn’t count as part of the event, because the only times i’ve gotten gold on BOTH the guards AND the shaman he summons have been at around 4am when there are only 20 or so ppl doing the fight.
3) as i said before- people don’t have to do the pre-events, but can stand at the boss and just nuke him down when the final event pops. he has so little health he dies in a matter of seconds, so regardless of how much you’ve participated, you are lucky to get a hit. the more this happens, the more people give up on pre-events and join the crowd to nuke the boss, not willing to risk missing their chest. a degenerating cycle.
just on a last note- maw and behemoth are starting zone bosses. how much damage could REALLY be expected of a level 1-15 toon? regardless of how many level 80s are there, that character should STILL be getting credit for participating. it is, after all, the event they have access to.
basically: scale boss’ HP to accommodate how many people are present. scale damage required for credit to take into account the level of the toon AND the number of other people present.
(edited by Ent.1026)
i’m guessing cureforliving wasn’t doing maw- or if they were, they did it on a lower pop server.
i’ve fought the maw easily 75 times on various classes of character, and it’s been a personal goal each time to see if i can get all golds (i like to imagine it’s an achievement to get a perfect score on the maw lol)
that said, i’ve gotten gold on every event of the chain fewer times than i can count on one hand.
on my higly populated server, at the times that i play, it’s simply superhuman to not pop a silver or bronze on at least one part, no matter how hard you try.
and what’s worse? getting done killing the portals only to run back to the boss JUST IN TIME for him to die! Nuked by all those people who just stood there instead of participating in the pre-event (we have 40 or 50 ppl standing there often times- tho it could be more, as it’s hard to tell with culling).
doing the entire chain up to the boss, then missing out on the boss because he was nuked before you could run across the ice to him—- that’s just insanity. not to mention how VERY ANGRY one can get when it means you didn’t get the chest, because you couldn’t even tap the boss!
elementalist damage is just weak overall- in pvp or pve. you would think when you can stack five spells on someone in 4 seconds, there would be an effect… but… no. at best, it slows the person/mob down a bit. actual killing is a long, drawn out slog in either setting.
lol campfire gives a buff… can invite others or give open access… private ‘tent chat’ channel…
hmmm
echoes of mabinogi…. XD
just a tip, but did you know you can get badges by doing the keg brawl? that’s something that’s fun for pve’ers (generally) and not in the style of the usual pvp. a group of friends can spend hours just keg brawling and rack up the badges! (the group i run with has been loving it, since we discovered it a couple weeks ago – tyvm dailies!)
a function to search or sort armor by class- light, medium, heavy.
pleeeease.
a request for medium armor that shows norn tattoos.
specifically: i run a female norn ranger, and can’t find any medium gear that will show the lovely tattoo art she’s clearly spent hours in a chair getting done.
currently only the duelist chest shows any of the belly tattoos, and none show the arm or back tattoos. there are 2 legs that do an ok job, but they’re not particularly attractive. just a few more choices of medium gear that would show more skin, please.
a rarely mentioned side effect of people guesting for events has been a MARKED change in the tone of the map chat. on my server, prior to the loot system change, we had a very community-oriented, helpful map chat which would call out events and chat in a POSITIVE way. people recognized each others’ names, and welcomed new voices. new players asked questions and got REAL answers. not just now and then, but that was the overall tone of the chat. very rarely was there any aggro in our map chat.
now, with the increased number of visitors, there’s a VERY high level of trolling, general aggro and hate chat. people come to our server guesting for a chest, and while they’re standing around waiting for an hour for behemoth to spawn they don’t feel any need to behave themselves- why bother? they’ll be gone in a few minutes anyway. so they troll our server’s chat, degenerating it from the helpful community it once was to basically a gutter.
it really isn’t much wonder that people aren’t happy with the recent changes. they’ve changed the entire tone of the game environment.
guesting wasn’t a problem before the chest loot system changed. in fact, until then, it was a lovely perk of the game, allowing friends to play together on a short-term basis- exactly as intended.
further nerfing of the boss chest availability would be detrimental. i know many people who have moved on to other games or simply intend to move on to the coming expected big mmo as soon as it’s released, simply because they don’t like the current change from ‘loot whenever you down the boss’ to ‘loot once per day per toon.’ they feel it signals a fundamental change in behavior from Anet (their reasoning, not mine) and further restricting of it will only cause more to feel the sting.
guesting wasn’t a problem before the loot system changed.
overflow on bosses wasn’t a problem before the loot system changed.
simple math: put the loot system back how it was, and find another way to give people yellows and a chance at an exotic.
it really is just that simple.
seconded.
some method of altering icons would be nice, but barring that, simply replacing the gore ones with something a bit less graphic would be very appreciated >.<
simple: culling in PvE has a huge negative impact on the enjoyment of the game, as well as the practical execution of the game in many instances.
please end server-side culling, and do what’s being done to the WvW culling- make it player-side optional.
thank you.
