The game is still on my desktop. I pop in every now and again to check on changes and forum thread trends. This post was addressing one of them.

It has to be a hard thing to create a game with content that makes players who have the time to play a lot feel rewarded and those who play a little not feel left behind. Typically, most of the issues come from those who can play a lot. When “endgame” is reached (whatever form it may take) That is truly when the community is tested.

Casual players rarely have issues with most MMO’s as by the time they reach “endgame” there is new “endgame” already released and they have loads of content ahead of them.

WoW has the advantage of eight years of content and tenure and every game released being compared to it (fair or not) is hard to stack up against.

In the end, as you’ve said, it’s the players choice. If it holds your interest, great. If not you probably are going through the content faster than expected or the game simply wasn’t designed for that style of play.

I’ve found that guild loyalty usually revolves around one of 2 things. A Social aspect or a value of a raiding spot. Without raiding one of those are taken away and with mutiguilding, the social aspect can be achieved fairly easily. Yes, i agree it’s a problem when trying to establish loyalty.

I do have to say, the forum community has greatly transformed into (for the most part) an informative and positive place months after release. Ty for the reads and replies.

It’s been about a month since I’ve logged into GW2. Yes, I “went back to WoW”. After two years of not playing WoW and trying every new MMO I could get my hands on…Tera, DCUO, DDO, LOTRO, SWTOR,The Secret World and finally GW2….I went back to a game i was completely finished with when I quit years ago.

Yes i know that I’m the common denominator in all of this however, WoW is still the game that keeps me logging in. There are tangible rewards everyday. I’m a mid maxer and I’ve found in that, nothing short of gear grind and raiding can satiate my MMO needs. Evidently people (myself included) dig carrots and sticks.

Just my 2 cents regarding all of the threads referencing having difficulty logging in.

Anet made a beautiful game and 1-80 was a blast. It just seems with PvE and PVP being separate (minus zerg v zerg) both are left shallow after about 30 days of play and having BIS gear 10 minutes after hitting level cap.

Blizzard, by far, has the best CS i’ve ever experienced in any MMO in the last 6 years.

Almost as if they are in direct opposition.

Wonder if we’ll see a DR reducer for sale soon?

Just engaging in on going discourse with the public agreeing or disagreeing with things I’ve experienced. Seeing it’s still installed on my desktop and I could log in if i read something i found remotely interesting…does that qualify me to post?

You realize they have seperate teams dedicated to each thing, right Evil? That was explained by Colin. I don’t see how one thing can possibly “suffer”. Stop being melodramatic.

If PvE is so easy for you, why not make it more challenging for yourself? Don’t follow the zerg of players, try doing things on your own. Try duoing a champion with someone. Take on more mobs at once. PvE in WoW was a ginormous joke as well, I could solo everything in that game. It only got difficult in instances, which is the same respect as GW2.

Oh, you must have thought i was still playing this game. lol Heavens no. I just check the boards every now and again to see if there is anything that would make me want to log back in.

Sperate teams is of course less assets for the other aspect of the game. Which ever side of the fence you prefer, you want all assets working on that side. So we’ll go with sub optimal.

As for the suggestions of doing things that are illogical in an attempt to make things more challenging, naa. That’s a slippery slope as all things can be done. It’s all wasted time in the end.

You must have really wanted to use the word “melodramatic” there, as that post was far from it. But hey, to each their own.

Anyone quoting and using an 8 year old game in direct comparison to a 2 month old game should reexamine the term “lessons learned”. As in None.

Yes my new lambo has a few issues but if you’ll remember, the model T ford also had some issues when it rolled out 100 years ago.

It’s almost as if people were saying this nearly a month ago. At the time, those that said ANYTHING remotely negative about this game were told to go back to WoW. Most of us did.

I knew it was only a matter of time before people starting hitting 80, getting exotics and realizing they were done.

Like GW2’s bigger supporters will tell you, as they have told me weeks back " PvP is the endgame." And by Anet’s new post today, it seems thats really all they are focused on.

It was never hidden that PVP was a big focus. I’m not a big pvper in any game and it’s one of the reasons I never bothered with GW1 and that I waited to buy this one until a few friends had played for a few weeks and I could find out exactly what it was like. At this point I’m satisfied enough with casually making my way through the PVE aspect. It’s entertaining enough at this point. I haven’t quit my other game (not WOW) and continue to raid in it for that type of challenge.

I likely won’t do pvp until I finish leveling my characters. If I like it great. If not and the pve aspect doesn’t hold me then I’ll just let the game lie for a while. No big deal as it’s something I expected coming into it.

Yeah Gw2 is an Odd Duck to me. Spvp is completely separate from anything else in the game. Nothing connects to it.

That is what will be the Esport (if they iron out spectator mode) and its so strange, to me at least, how it is a separate entity completely.

PvE and WvW however on the other hand do play into each other (besides having repair bills) It’s almost as if Anet is working on two games at once. When that’s the case, usually one suffers.

Maybe because I’m playing WoW however. Just pop in the forums every now and again to see if there have been any miraculous changes. Moving on.

Disclaimer: Endgame is subjective and doesn’t freely apply from one player to the next. One persons endgame could be making as much money as possible while another’s could be collecting spider legs. The following is what I consider endgame.

Endgame is what I couldn’t create in GW2 no matter how hard I tried. I wanted to love this game 1-80 is amazing and I wanted that to continue.

Endgame is measured character progression after leveling is completed.

Endgame is currently what I’ll be playing in another MMO.

Mr.Lee that’s awesome they got it up and finally working. It is unfortunate they made the runs account wide however.

Run 3 paths on your main. Get full reward.
Run the same 3 on an Alt, DR is there.

Oh well, people will play or they won’t.

Of course it was by design. Nothing that you use in this game regularly will not cost you coin. Karma has always been a second rate “meh” currency but as you’ll see, pretty soon the only thing you be able to buy with it is sparkle bombs.

My guild and I have decided to take your first bit of advice. Though we took it over a week ago. We now play less. A lot less. Actually, just not at all. Just scan the boards looking for some miraculous change.

I think I’ll leave it on my desktop but I don’t expect much as this game obviously wasn’t made for me and my ilk (Progression-based players). Oh well, there are things worse than Pandas.

Soul and I were having a laugh. my comments were only aimed at him as you can plainly see and his responses were aimed, you guessed it, only at me. If that bothers you feel free to not read it.

I have a current issue thats taking a while but was going to hold off judgement (of this aspect of the game) and maybe hear a few others way in on their experiences.

Who all is happy with this aspect of the game. Anyone have issues solved quickly or in game items/issued restored resolved?

For the people questioning how I am hitting diminishing returns and even flat out calling me a lier:

Get ~200% magic find.

Go do any event in Orr, tag (do enough damage for them to drop loot) 100% of NPCs that spawn. Why do I tag 100% of them do you ask? Well, I thought the point is to kill them so they don’t take whatever objective is for the DE…. Should I hug them instead? Or should I single target them and be completely worthless to the rest of the people doing the DE?

Watch your loot start to dry up around 15 minutes and completely diminish in around 30 (even moving around never doing the same event twice)

Most of the people saying DR doesn’t effect them are being honest. Because they have no idea what DR is. If you weren’t 80 in the first 2 weeks then you have been playing with DR in effect the whole time.

or still aren’t 80 which i suspect is quite a few of the cases.

WoW is the best MMO by far if you’re looking for a “gear grind” MMO. I played it through launch to mid-BC, then from WotLK through Cataclysm Firelands patch… then I quit. I realized they had nothing new to offer after announcing MoP before the final tier was out. Just a longer grind. (I was doing Firelands dailies on 5 characters.)

Guild Wars 2 is the best game around if you want the MMO experience without having to sink hours into the gear grind just to stay competetive at top tier raiding/pvp. It’s amazing how they put the feel of raid events into all levels of gameplay. Tons of fun that you can pick up and put down at will. No monthly subscription to make you feel like you’re forced to play, because you’re putting money into it.

Simply: Wow isn’t as casual friendly as Gw2 is. If you want more to chase, go to wow, if you love cinematics of forests , stay right where you are.

I’d like to know which zone in WoW is less casual friendly than Orr.

I’m just curious as to why you’d go to Orr? You cant farm and the DEs kill your rewards before the events even complete.

I don’t think i saw one person demanding a yellow drop a minute yet inexplicably, you’ve said that. So what are we left with. You exaggerating trying to downplay an issue that 80% of the posters are Making up?…or you’re just full of kitten.

The point of that post is it’s rampant and players aren’t happy. MMORPG.com, IGN.com, Massively.com, MMO-Champion.com, MMOHUT..all filled with different posters posting about the same non existent issue. what a coincidence.

I think what he means is that if you farm in the only level 80 zone, CS, the bots rip though the mobs before you even have a chance to tag them. Also, it seems you have to do a certain % of damage to them before it actually counts as a kill. simply tagging once has a tendency not to count.

Dusk, any way you can pm me your server, id love to see this in action. Seeing I have nothing to do in game, that would at least be something. Hell, id shoot you my vent info and you can teach me how you remain sane and profit.

Blackgate has been infested for weeks. I assume it will continue to be infested…no bots…no reason for global DR. No Global DR, No artificial game length and ability to farm legitimately.

231 hours, 1030 points.

330hours 1304 points. Though i have to admit a lot of that is standing around ( like now, logged in but tabbed out till im kicked.) Not a contest, just curious as you have been one of the games bigger defenders as to how much you were playing. Thanks

PS I too cant seem to beat the DR, and from what i can tell im not in the minority. Whats your secret?

Anet says it needs to combat botting and speed runs by implementing DR. DR spills into every aspect of the game (WvW, Des, Farming,Dungeons) and this kills most of the ways players choose to make gold. All of this for the bots and “exploiters”.

Yet the same bots who have been reported hundreds of times are still there. Same names, same bots. Now are those bots still there for an excuse to keep the DR and force limited playtime people into the cash shop or? DR in WvW…do we have botting going on there?

I’m just curious as to who’s making the most money off these bots…the bot owners(whoever they may be) or Anet.

To be honest, I suspect the reasoning of why they are keeping the bots active at the moment is for that specialized team they formed to make the application they are designing. Rather than ban them out right, they are using the bots against the farmers themselves as test-beds for their program. I suspect once the program is done, we’re going to see a firestorm of banning.

Ironically, the gold farmers are helping them design the tools Anet will be using to find them.

Stopped playing completely 3 days ago after trying to avoid DR while farming…..cant.

PS Anet by their own admission said they expected around 5% to make legandarys. If you have one already, Anet doesn’t consider you casual.

Having a person get 1-5 pieces of rare gear, which will equate to a possibility of up to 15 Ectoplasms, from a single event would kill the price and mess with the economy in a negative way.

Not having players log in also effects the economy….in a negative way.

Still, it is not necessary yet if you don’t play the game like a traditional MMO but as it is meant to be played.
They also said the majority does not rush content but enjoys the game.

GW and GW2 are games for laid back people, not for those obsessively compulsively burning contents, not caring about landscapes/lore/wvw/pvp etc.
It simply cannot be played that way.

I prefer that they fix the game to a stable stadius, and then proceed to release new content.

again, Anet profits more off the bots than the bots do. By having bots they can justify this whole DR thing. With DR, most players aren’t making money. Cash shop sells money.

Anet uses a system to stop these bots (also kills anyway to make money for anyone else)

Same Bots are still there. We must still need the DR system.

Btw, we do have a cash shop if you don’t want to spend what little playtime you may have farming aimlessly for diminished rewards.

Meanwhile..same bots…still there. Its..almost..like….Anet….profits..off the bots….more than…the bots do. Hmm.
