Why are there so many threads about the same topic, when this discussion has been beaten to death already. We can discuss this when we know more, but for now, did you see the trailer? Those maps are at least 3x the size of silverwastes, and if they are jam packed with content like silverwastes, then i’m happy.

It seems like people are ignoring something. We purchased GW2 and got LS1, LS2 and 2 feature packs. I’m not going to argue if they gave us enough content or not for the time between GW2 release and HoT, but fact mains that we got content. We paid for the core game and still got lots of free content. What makes you think we won’t get a feature pack and another LS with HoT?

I’m dissapointed that we get only 1 spec on HoT launch, but at least i know that if it turns out to be a success and people like it, ANet will add another one, for free. If we get only 1 Stronghold map, im confident they will add more. Keep in mind this is their first GW2 expansion. Don’t compare it to GW1, they work entirely different. I’ll admit, im starting to get tired of their ‘’building the groundwork,’’ but this time it’s acceptable because, again, it’s their first expansion. I’m confident that they will deliver us great content, with even more to come.

Anyways, these are my opinions so of course some of you will disagree, but i’m buying it, regardless of price, no other game gave me same ammount of hours for the price i payed.

Since everyone seems to be so pre-occupied with maps and compare it to Nightfall and Factions, i hope you all know how map designing and creating works. Sure we had lot’s big maps, but you seem to forget that aside from mobs, there were really nothing there. No vistas, no poi’s, no gathering nodes, no jumping puzzles, nothing. I’m willing to bet that creating Ascalon/Kryta/Shiverpeaks took more time and resources then it took to make the whole of Canthas maps.

Also, i’m pretty sure we’re getting a whole new zone. You know what a zone is? Ascalon is a zone, Kryta is a zone. How many maps do these zones cover? Ascalon covers 6 full-size maps and include a capital city. Even if it has just 2 maps, each map will have 3 layers so that makes it 6 zones. Look at the map, do you really see just 1 map there?

I’m guessing that we get 2 big maps, each with 3 layers making it the same as 6 maps. 6 maps for an expansion is just right.

Have there been any Tengus in the current living story? No. Have they in any way been tied to what we’re playing through? No. It doesn’t make sense to introduce Tengu’s when there have been zero hints at them becomming playable. Don’t get me wrong, i’d insta make a Tengu if they did introduce them, but it’s highly unlikely that Tengu, or any other race for that matter, will come with HoT. I can however see Tengus comming with Primordus expansion the next “untraditional expansion”.

They did a 3-week hype prelude to a feature pack. Most of the stuff was very cool, but very run-of-the-mill in nature. This is being announced at a convention. It’s their own fault if the hype they have tried to manufacture with this doesn’t live up to expectations.

I expect this announcement to be a full on expansion replete with the following:

  • a new class
  • a new race
  • a wholly new weapon
  • existing weapons given to classes that have never been able to use them before
  • new dungeons
  • new fractals
  • new utility and elite skills
  • new pvp modes
  • additions to WvW
  • new legendaries
  • new features and refinements

Boy are you in for a big dissapointment. Also that so-called created hype is 80% player created, don’t blame ANet if they don’t live up to your expectations.

I think HoT will be a large Living story season, several episodes packed into one, with a big feature pack. Aka, an expansion, just that ANet won’t call it one and it won’t feel like a traditional one. However, i don’t see there being as much as you’d expect from an expansion. Heart of Thorns will probably feature the rest of Maguuma Wastes, Magus Falls and some of Janthir areas. Those of you who think this is Cantha or Elona, prepare to be let down big time.

I wouldn’t reccomend it. Think of the long-term consequences of being directly exposed to all that rage

I wonder if we could somehow harness all that rage-fueled energy. Surely it would be better then what modern society uses now.

Although ANet haven’t said a single word about what it will be, what we can expect etc etc, if they don’t announce an expansion, or something expansion-y you can come to these forums on the 24th after the announcement and if you put your head against the screen, you can actually feel the universal rage.

Me personally i’ll carry on as usual like i did with Living Story, log on, complete missions, maybe some interesting achievments, log off and wait for next release.

Seriously guys all these lists are nice and all, like i want about everything listen in this thread, but i dont see 80% of them happening. As much is i’d like to be wrong, i dont see whatever Heart of Thorns is to be a big full fledge expansion. I dont see it coming with a new race and a new proff. I expect HoT to be a big feature pack mashed up with one or two Living Story season(s) which release expansion type content, but not as large as an actual expansion would be.

The green highlighted area makes me think its just another sylvari, since later on in the trailer their (well at least Canach’s) bioluminescence is highlighted the same way.

Also, it could just be Lazarus the Dire, the only known surviving Mursaat. (unless there is still a city of them)

Nah m8, Sylvari dont have that type of gear on nor do they float. The figure in the trailer is just an upgraded Mursaat. Also im pretty sure that Mursaat have their capital in the Janthir Isles, guessing Lazarus wasn’t the last one.

Time to speculate:

-What happens to DE and the Pact?
-How does this affect the good Sylvari/ Nightmare Court/ Player Sylvari?
-How much of the map will this conflict cover?
-What happens to Rytlock and Caithe?
-How do the Mursaat connect to this?

I’ll start:
- After the corrupted Sylvari turn on the Pact the Pact fleet falls to its demise. Almost everyone dies, but a small group survives, including almost every member of DE and maybe Trehearne. I can easily see Trehearne and/or one of DE members dying.

- After the world learns about the sylvari secret all the other races grow hostile towards all Sylvari. The good sylvari have to prove themselves innocent, but take a lot of losses by doing so. The Nightmare Court gain a huge boost of members and see this as an opportunity to achiev their goals. I don’t see this affecting the play Sylvari in any way, because like Glint they’re part of the good despite being born from the bad. This theory can also apply to the good npc sylvari.

- Im guessing we get the rest of Maguuma Wastes (2/3 full size zones), Magus Falls (2-3 full size zones) and maybe Janthir Bay and Isles of Janthir. (1 large zone each)

- Caithe uses the egg to somehow find out how to break free from the dragons mind control (although she is free, a large part of her kin is not). She’ll be the hero alongside the player, but i can easily see her dying in this. Rytlock succesfully completes his mission, however doing this results in him losing his eyesight. He returns as a total kitten, just to learn about what has happend to his friends. Enraged he goes beastmode and probably appears at a cliché moment and save the remaining Pact soldiers and DE members.

- Although the Mursaat were the enemy in GW1 i got a feel that we need to ally ourselves with the Mursaat from the trailer. Really don’t see how they connect to this other then that we need something they possess.

Now it’s your time.

Also i wonder if the new maps (would be stupid not to add new ones) have that aztec vibe to them, like GW: Utopia was supposed to be. Full jungle and all. If they’re going to show a new trailer or a video i hope it’s not the same one we got today.

I mean, look at how kitten he looks from the trailer! Just rains gold on that temple. Does this mean we’ll get Isles of Janthir/ Janthir Bay with HoT? I sure as hell hope so.

Ps. Shoutout to Rytlock for being looking absolutely beast in that trailer.

potential insider info for pax east, 1/24:
- they’re gonna announce Guild vs Guild
- Guild Halls
- Pvp Tournament and new armor set already datamined
- LS content update

Year goes on with that stuff.
So no Cantha for the players. No expectations.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this was true. GvG and Guild Halls seem like a “bigger project in the background.”

Honestly i’m not expecting an expansion until late 2016/early 2017 if they choose to expand LS. By expanding LS i mean bigger episodes and more ‘meaningful’ content.

I’m telling you ANet, Queen better go and say something in the lines of….“Now that the dangers of Zhaitan have strongly been pushed back, we as a whole union can focus on a new task. We can’t stay isolated from the rest of the world forever which is why i’ve decided to open the gates to the Crystal Desert.”… Then she goes on to explain why it’ll take some time etc etc and we get CD on first patch of 2014.

My Theories on the Dragons

in Lore

Posted by: Exroyal.9053

Exroyal.9053

Seems like a good theory, but from what we know from ANet, these Dragons had so much magic in them that magic was dripping from them. Kralk didn’t brand minions or anything, everything just became branded when he FLEW over them because his magic was/is so immense that it works like that. It is also said that Zhaitan is/was the weakest of the dragons. It is also said that these dragons aren’t really smart, they’re just weapons of mass destruction and their champions do all the work for them. The reason we haven’t faced any new dragon yet is because they all seem “busy” with something else. Like Kralk with Palawa and Primordus underground with god knows what, but in the end it doesn’t make sense because they are supposed to be so powerful that Palawa would seem like a regular lv10 Thrall compared to a Lv80 Full zerker Warrior with SoR and Frenzy +100 blades on.

I just want to face more of them and can’t wait for Kralk, wonder how we will fight him and how ANet will create him because he is supposed to be huuge.

Nah who am I kidding. Getting 1st is easy if you get lucky with teleport power ups. It’s really a luck based title. Not skill based.

I don’t agree. I came in a little late last game, the game had started about 20 seconds so they all had a big lead on me, i still ended up on first place and didn’t get teleport power up once, I was lucky and got Aspect Master 3 times though, but still, i couldn’t see them before we were at third of fourth checkpoint.

I fully agree with you. I was so super hyped up for GW2 because of my love for GW1. For the first time in my life i felt emotions while playing a game with GW1. After we, the Sunspears lost the battle vs. Kourna and ended up split up and beat. Fighting through, getting Koss back and then clearing that underground cave to make it our hideout. It was all mystical and very charming, i loved that cave. Then Vabbi came, which imo. is the best place ever created in any game. In GW2 there are lot’s of beautiful places and places to see, places i would love in GW1, but i don’t in GW2 because they are there, but they don’t stand for anything. Therefore, i hope we get back to Elona/Cantha soon.

I just posted this on the Dragon Bash thread in the living story discussion, but i’ll post it here as well. So from my understanding, we’ll see the return of the Dragon Festival from GW1 in the form of the Dragon Bash here in GW2. When i remember Dragon Festival, i remember Cantha, serpent dragons (asian) and more “asian” things. They won’t let you add a major part of your game due to it being asian, yet they will let you add an annual event like the Dragon Bash?

I’m pretty sure that work on an expansion has already started with a very small team. Sure, they want to strenghten the current world, but what good does adding living story, just to remove it after a few months? If the dungeon and the events stayed, then that would be logical, but to add and then remove doesn’t seem logical. It’s like taking one step forward and then one back. Only thing their currently strenghtening is everything BESIDES the current world, like WvW, PvP and quality of life improvments.

Though, saying that they don’t “meat up” the current world would also be a lie as refugees have now taken into Southsun and hopefully the new patches will add some new events and extra activity.

Well, they haven’t said anything about Elona so i’m guessing their next expansion will be Elona or it will be the addition of those 10 locked zones in Tyria (sort of like EoTN from GW1). In a suprising case, we may see the place which Guild Wars Utopia was set to be, but was canceled. I heard that they were well on going with that expansion, but stopped it. Cantha at this point won’t be the first expansion, or even the second as long as we don’t hear anything else from the devs about it.

I’d be highly dissapointed if i didn’t see Cantha in the next three expansions though, as their reasoning for not adding Cantha seems so stupid.

Exroyal.9053

Excuse me if i offend anyone, but this whole thing doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Let me start off by saying that i got introduced to the GW universe through a couple of friends back in 2006. I started off with Nightfall as Factions was sold out everywhere. I liked it, but i was playing like 20 games at the time so when i got stuck on one of the last missions, i gave up the game. Fast forward two years and i buy GW and all of the expansions after learning about GW2. This time, i read more about it and got pretty decent at it, both pve and pvp wise. Most of all i liked Vabbi. That place has a special place in my heart.

When i bought GW2, i bought the CE and in my mind, i’ve always thought that Elona and Cantha would make a return. It’s something that i’ve been thinking is a given. The fact that Cantha maybe won’t appear is quiet shocking to me. Sure, i never liked Kaineng, but i’ll never forget fighting corrupted Kuunavang and all my battles in Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry against the luxons. I sure as hell will never forget my OP ritualist which could keep a whole party at max hp with a custom made spirit build.

This whole thing about NCsoft, asian culture and all that doesn’t make any sense to me.

1. While the whole world is moving forward, more and more people accepting things which were considered wrong in the years past, you decide to move backwards by doing the opposite? We’re living in 2013, i think it’s about time we accept the fact that the world is becoming a bowl of salad with everything mashed up and not a plate of dinner where everything is placed each for itself.

2. Why would you even allow Cantha to exist in GW1 and why would you allow content updates for that very region you’re trying to get rid of? If i wanna get rid of something, i try to make that place very insignificant before removing it. You allowed the place to be created, then you allowed the place to get content updates and then you even allowed lore to be created about it for the next game. Hell, the Canthan district was even created, but you had to remove it…Good thinking.

3. You can’t expect to remove such and important part of the universe without any major consequences. How would you feel if suddenly Asian and Australia/Oceania dissapeared from the world? Yes, Cantha means that much. Although I’ll always love Elona the most, i want Cantha or else it won’t feel like GW1.

I think Primordus is off because Primordus looks more like a Dragon-Phoenix hybrid from early concept and ingame GW1. Although I personally think that picture of Kralkatorrik would suit him more, it’s off as well because on that picture he seems more “blocky” with like “boulders” as his body and lighting striking down under him, but like someone else before me posted, Kralkatorrik is huuuge, his spine can be seen in GW1 and that picture of that dragon head looking at the boat is actually Kralkatorrik. Can’t say anything about Bubbles, but i wish it’s not Bubbles because i was expecting something more Cthulhu-ish.

I was sure that Jormag was more typical dragon as seen from here. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Jormag_norn_intro_concept_art.jpg

Not some serpent thing, but i guess it makes sense now.. Also, what happend to Drakkar? The champion of Jormag frozen under Drakkar lake.

Guys, there are six Elder Dragons.
We have the following:
Zhaitan
Primordus
Jormag
Kralkatorrik
Deep Sea Dragon (Bubbles)
1 Unknown.

We have 5 human gods so it doesn’t make any sense. Also, Tequatl is not an Elder dragon, he is simply a general for Zhaitan.

Speculations are that the 6th Elder dragon is the Pale Tree from which the Sylvari are born. This explains why you fight the dragon in your dream.
