You guys make a good point, we are indeed on SFR. I didn’t know the lower pop servers have no queues though, smaller sure but none? That’s awesome

Anyway we’re here for another seven weeks now so c’est la vie!

1) You don’t HAVE to play on reset night
2) There are 24 hours in a day
3) There are 7 days in a week
4) The league lasts 7 weeks

Stop complaining. If you’re not prepared to wait in queue then that’s your problem.

Logic and common sense.. we are not ready for your big magic!

Heya guys,

Like many guilds we were looking forward to the start of the WvsW season last night but in the end not one member got in all night. I myself joined the Q at 8pm GMT and was still in the Q when I logged off at 11pm.

I know it will prob calm down a bit but it was always a problem getting in at the weekend anyway, now with the added interest I don’t feel confident enough to even suggest another WvsW to my guild without first seeing how bad the Qs stay.

Is there no way AN can increase capacity on the WvsW realms for this kind of thing? Surely it is right? Huge anti climax for us here and hope something is done soon or WvsW is one more thing off the list of things we can do as a guild.

Its been a year and we still need...

Better Weather Effects
Dark Nights (no, not Christian Bale)
Purchasable Real Estate
Player Owned Shops
Player Owned Farms (for Livestock and Produce)
Fishing, Hunting & Farming Professions
Player-Generated Dynamic Events

You may want to check out Sims 4

I like the idea of dark nights, but it won’t happen in this game but lets hope for player housing some time in 2014.

On a related note, how amazing it that race, so much better than Mario Kart.

Why add harder and harder puzzle jumps?

I hear there are some people who don’t like biscuits. A concept that took me many moons to accept. No but joking aside, you could have the best game mechanic since sliced bread and if you introduce hundreds of thousands of people to it some will just not like it.

That’s ok, in fact that’s good. Would be boring world if we all liked the same things.

Here’s my personal take on jumping puzzles in this game, they are bloomin amazing! Jumping from platform to platform has been a bread and butter activity since games existed. It’s familiar, it’s challenging and it even knocks on the door of a humans most basic need to climb.

In Guild Wars 2 the developers have not only made them look different, feel different and display some truly genesis mechanics.. they are also integrated into the various zones with such thought and context. Like the Pig Iron Quarry puzzle or Goemm’s Lab, they just fit so well into where they are placed.

Like all games, I want to have the bar raised from time to time. You have to assume that players will have done a few jumping puzzles on their way through the game as they are everywhere and are now linked to dailies/acheivment points. So after doing 30 puzzles at level 1 why for the love of god would the devs not do a few JPs that are a little harder?

I think that’s the problem with many players who play GW2, when a challenge comes along they don’t like it. ‘Why shouldn’t I have access to everything will little effort or commitment’ is what Im hearing here. Sorry if that sounds harsh but it’s the way I see it.

Please ArenaNet keep doing what you are doing as the jumping puzzles in your game are one of its greatest and unique features, he’ll even WoW has started copying them so Ypu must be doing something right

Just as a side note, I got my first Zenith skin last night and didn’t see anything odd except for the fact that you had to double click the skin you wanted (rather than simply select it) before the ACCEPT button would become active so you could finalize the selection. To be honest this should make it MORE difficult to select the wrong skin and it is also possible that this was an stealth change with yesterdays patch…..have no way of knowing how the selection process worked previously.

BTW, selected Great Sword skin and got GS skin….

That could be it, if you have to double click before it registers your selection then many will just click and assume (rightly I think) that is has been highlighted ready for the confirm button being pressed.

If I’m honest I don’t remember if I double clicked but I’ll be sure to check on the next try.

Thanks for the information Gaile.

I chose the Greatsword and ended up with a sceptor skin. I am 100% sure that I did select the GS. I’m not sure if it helps but I spent ages looking through each skin to see which one I wanted.

Has the preview somehow affected the choice you make?

I know a few people have said that we should not worry as we can chose properly in a few days when the next chest unlocks but ofc if this really is a bug it needs sorting or we could be here again

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

I just wanted to say that I think players should try and keep a healthy perspective on these games.

I love GW2 as much as the next player but I always feel people get a little be too fixated on the game. Just take a step back and look at all the things we DO have to do in this game. They have already said (and ofc Colin said in this thread) that they have listened to us and are working on longer lasting content.

ArenaNet are providing content every two weeks, good content. This have never been done in any western MMO, ever. Threads like this just make me think many MMO players have had it too good for too long and don’t remember the days MMOs where we had to make our own content (which was awesome).

You have to remember, this game is free to play. So they need some mechanism for getting players logging on. If a map or zone is only here for two weeks in creates a need for players to have to commit to that goal and work at it. I do sympathise with players who are, say on holiday for that two weeks, but the show must go on so to speak.

I love the idea of bringing back content via the fractals, so we do get to play old content but at the same time your not breaking the progressive story.

This is why I go over the two scenarios and try and see this from Anets perspective as well. I understand they need methods to keep players playing as that is ultimatly a factor in how the bills are getting paid.
However, as I went over in the Game of Throne Scenario, this will only alientate players in the long run.
Content every 2 weeks is good. Temporary content every 2 weeks is not.

What about if they do both? So keep the progressive story rolling but then also have far more perminant content arriving for us to enjoy? Then you have the best of both worlds right?

It does sound like that’s what this are doing, but I understand they need to make it first

ArenaNet I once again am amazed by the sheer scale of the content we have received from you. This the latest in a two week content pledge and its hard to fault (although I’m sure my trusty fellow forum users are busy doing just that )

Not only have we a new area to explore, you have added the elemental movements to it, made it all work so well within that environment and then also made is look so kitten pretty. The sail ship at the top is just stunning.

On top of all this you have hidden the sky crystals in really challenging places, given us the race, mini games, achievements which get us visiting old ground and reworked the achievements system. Added a new PVP map…. (Faints)

Seriously is anyone else as upbeat about this game as me now? I guess I am a fanboy, hey I’m guilty but I think for good reason. Awesome work AN, I think there are a lot of players starting to come back to look at what your doing and rightly so.

Sorry to hear that Zachary, it must be a right pain to have lag issues.

I’m fortunate to have a really good gaming rig so can play Guild Wars 2 on full whack. I didn’t think a lower performing system would cause lag but sucks that it does.

The first jumping puzzle I did was in beta, I didn’t even know they existed and then stumbled across a crack in the wall in Metrica Province. On exploring I found the floating steps and made my way through the portal. Myself and the two friends I was with were really excited to have found something hidden, then our gaze panned up and we saw the maze of complex platforms above us…

Over the next two hours we figured out the portal mechanics and the various traps and route. If you have done this puzzle or any of the others that rate as good I can’t see how you don’t think they are just amazing. My opinion ofc I know

I also love how they all have unique mechanics and also seem to be part of the world as opposed to being separate ‘and here’s the puzzle for this area’.

Ok Vol that answers my question, cheers.

Genophix.3098

My idea of a good reward system is one that is in context.

So like if Im killing low level mobs I only expect to get trash and the very occasional rare.

When I’ve spent 15 minutes making my way up a rock formation and then killed three veterans Id like the game to recognise that. Im not sure if a game can do this as Im not a programmer.

I know most large world bosses now give a rare the first time you kill them in the day and this shows me AN are trying to get it right. I’m more refereeing to all mobs below world boss level.

It’s always just felt far more satisfying in other MMOs, maybe it’s because the loot table is far more constrained in GW2?

A big thankyou to the ArenaNet team.

Genophix.3098

Yeah how is Guild Wars 2 pay to win? Isn’t that the whole point, that’s its not about the gear but about the experiences we have while travelling through it. Even the legendary weapons are no better than exotics, you would think they would be after all that effort, but even on this the dev teams have stuck to their guns.

I’ve personally had the same gear on now for months, I made it myself and am far too busy enjoying myself to be running a dungeon 80 times a months for a 0.0007% chance to drop a better piece of gear.

While it hurts like hell having no gear progression (yes in some ways I do miss the insanity of it all) Im overall glad. AN have lost many customers over this (and they know it) but they know what they want to make and it’s not another MMO like the last ten.

Right or wrong you have to give them credit for that.

A big thankyou to the ArenaNet team.

I also heard some of the content is coming back curtsey of the fractals. This actually makes sense and won’t break the whole timeline thing. We won’t get the rewards (like the jetpack) but even so, it will be good to be able to go back and see what has been.

This will also be good for people just joining Guild Wars 2 to be able to get a taste of what they have missed.

Heya,

I heard that ArenaNet were reworking the reward system, which is great. I’ve felt since the game launched the rewards for killing mobs are greatly out of sync and don’t give you any incentive to take on bigger foes.

So I just looked at the link to the next content pack and its going on about rewards for achievement points. Is this what they meant when they said they were improving rewards?

I assumed it was going to address the rewards for killing mobs. Any input would be great.

I’d just like to give ArenaNet some well deserved positive feedback.

I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since the beginning and in that time seen how some players have embraced its take on MMOs while others have found the lack of some conventional features (trinity etc) somewhat disconcerting.

For me personally I adore this game, the gorgeous and detailed environments, the love and design that’s gone into every corner, the expertly crafted jumping puzzles that in themselves are worth playing the game for. The fact I have five maxed out level eighty characters might tell you how I just love to run through Tyria doing whatever takes me fancy.

When I look back and count all the additional content we’ve been given (for free!) it’s staggering. I was especially impressed with the quality and size of Christmas, Halloween and Southsun. On top of this we’ve had new dungeons, fractals, Superbox, the living story and much more. Then ArenaNet decided (rightly so) to get their house in order and it went quiet. Many of my friends sounded off with ‘bored and nothing to do’ and left the game. I’m now seeing many coming back after hearing good things.

The living story did start really slow in my opinion and so some people may have been jaded by this but Im really happy to see its now taking off and getting huge support from the community. It’s natural to want people to love the game you love but I couldn’t disagree with many when we started this and it had the ‘is that it’ feeling.

This latest chapter with the Aether Pirates is just fantastic, it’s challenging, well designed and most of all, lots of fun. I spent hours in the jumping puzzle last night pulling my hair out! The guys who made a zeppelin, hidden in a holographic mountain I take my hat off to you.

It’s almost a sigh of relief, your now pushing your player base with content that is really making them sit up and pay attention. In addition we have a lot more to come, your reworking of rewards in the wings (finally!) and a commitment to adding new content every two weeks is very encouraging.

So yes, I’d like to say a big thankyou and congratulations to ArenaNet for sticking to your guns, providing an almost impossible amount of additional content and listening/acting to the feedback from the community.

I hope your all getting the holidays and down time you deserve!

We’ve been treated to a whole raft of average to excellent content, more than I care to list here

I’ve always enjoyed the game but obviously some players needed a few ‘raids’ to keep them interested. This is fair enough.

These last four weeks the quality has been so good and the latest jumping puzzle and dungeon are really challenging players. The only problem is that a lot of this content is timed so you won’t see it again.

Best advice is make a coffee, crank up the character creator and sink back into this stunning game. Don’t have any expectations based on other MMOs, just enjoy yourself.

GW2 in a nuthsell

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Genophix.3098

Genophix.3098

Hey Sterz,

I agree with you, in that once you have reached 80 your options become somewhat limited, but this ultimately depends on you the players. I think GW2 players fall in to two categories.

The first are conventional MMO players who yearn for more of what they know MMOs to be, ie raids, mounts, gear progression. Even the lack of these doesn’t stop them playing a Guild Wars 2 because its a visual treat and does sate their gaming thirst for a while. But, once they’ve ‘seen the show’ tried all the game mechanics and moaned a bit of the forums about how it’s not like WoW they stop playing.

Then you have the other type of GW2 player, who still loves MMOs like most but if they find a game world appealing can make their own fun if need be and need far less baby sitting from the developers. They make their own goals and objectives based on what the game has to offer, rather than wishing for what the game doesn’t have.

I think fall into the second group but I do empathise with players who want it to be more like (X). I to have my own wish list of what I hope they do with the game next but at the same time am very happy with how it plays now.

I think it comes down to this, that Guild Wars 2 just isn’t the MMO many hoped for or in fact what ArenaNet promised it would be. I do not have a permanent effect of my environment, I do grind and yes, I have swung a sword again and again (sorry Colin ).

But I love Guild Wars 2 and intend to play for a long time to come. Obviously from a selfish point if view I want people to play the game Im playing, a healthy player base is the lifeblood of any MMO and to that end I hope we do get some more sustainable activities to keep people playing. ie WvsW updates and expansions, dungeons that stay put and some better goals for players to work towards (but not gear/stats)

Edit: I vote self built player forts!

Threads like this make me so glad I’m not the only one thinking the same things.

Like you say Vexia the possibilities are endless and having to craft a guild hall/fort would be a long term goal for a guild to work behind. Even though it was totally broken in Conan I do remember all my guild setting out and gathering like mad to get the fort built, it was an epic feeling.

I’m not sure how AN see these threads, maybe they choke on their coffee at the idea. I’m not sure how much work it would take to put this in game, a lot I suspect. However if it does ever get put on the radar please for the love of biscuits, please give them a use/function/context.

Allow a guild to work as a team to build a structure that gives them something they a) really want and b) can’t get anywhere else. Whether that be special crops grown on the fields (for unique receipes which give better WvsW buffs) or a foundry that makes specialised siege weapons.

It’s not rocket science and you guys have shown you are listening to your players, why not have a go at this?

I’ve been chatting on a few other forums/threads about story and how players feel towards their characters. Some people say they don’t feel any emotional connection to their characters and they don’t understand why.

So I was thinking about this and have a theory. Many players have described Guild Wars 2 as a theme park MMO, in that there’s lots to see but not much to do. While I don’t agree with this in the main (as I think there is lots to do if your the right type of player) I do think more could be done to make your character feel grounded in the world.

I’ve played through this game five times now and after all the events, dungeons, adventures I’ve taken part in there nothing that says ‘Hey, I was here’. I have not changed my game world, I have no say in how the world evolves for my fellow player. How can I care about a story that Im not really part of? All them choices I made in my personal
story didn’t change the outcome, so what was the point in giving me a choice? Events don’t count because they are just stories on rails and get pushed back and fourth depending on players pushing them.

The quickest (or should I say more tangible) way to let players put their mark on the world would be player housing. Somewhere to hang my hat, where I can display trophies from my epic battles, (Lotro did this with great success) somewhere I can craft, grow crops, modify and set up just as I like.. my own little slice of Tyria. I know I know, this would in all likelyhood have to be instanced but as with all things it’s not what you do but the way you do it. I hear in Wildstar you will be able to find items out in the game world that open instances on your own house grounds. This to me is not only giving players a plot of land, but making it relevant and giving it context.

Maybe when you choose which organisation to help, Vigil etc you then open up a housing option themed to that choice and your property is placed in the same ‘neibourhood’ as other players.

Also giving guilds to ability to build (and defend) their own forts. Not just instances but huge areas where you can make better siege weapons at the foundry, grow unique crops for special food, decorate as you see fit with huge dragon skulls (or whatever). You could also have a court yard (arena) where other guilds can challenge each other (like customisable arenas) but attached to your guild.

I’ve got lots more ideas but tis already a big post, what do you guys think?

Thankyou for reading,

Mounts however, are a massive chance to add to and extend your character. One of my favourite things about my toon in WoW was my gyrochopper, which a built!

I don’t want mounts for speed, as the choir of GW die hards always sing down from the heavens “we have WPs”. But I do do a lot if running around and would love to be able see what AN would do with mounts, I’m sure they would be awesome.

Because they say if we don’t have to spam LA chat with LFG CoF we will be losing a valuable part of the social aspect of the game..

Sorry to be sarcastic but this one drives me mad, there is no reason for this feature to be missing in any modern MMO. I have never had an interaction of social value when forming a group with pugs. If we’re all honest we hate having to form groups, it’s a pain and all you really want is four other able players to get you to where you want.

I did see a few reports that some LFG tools have been spotted in the deep code if the game and some say this means its inc fairly soon but I’ve also heard somewhere AN say it won’t be a full LFG system, only something that helps. I really hope we get it soon, I do enjoy the dungeons and a LFG tool would really enhance my enjoyment if the game, enough said.

See I never played the original Guild Wars but I hear so many good things about it. I can’t ever remember feeling too attached to any MMO toon in defence of GW2, maybe in LOTRO.

I think that was because I was able to build a little piece of my self in the world in the form of a house and kin house. These things ground my character in the world and give them some context.

It’s clear as day to me that there are two very different types of player playing Guild Wars 2. Those who love it for what it is and appreciate it for what it is and how it differs from other bog MMOs like WoW.

Then there are those who do play but are getting increasingly bored and frustrated with mechanics and features they expect it to have from other MMOs (raids, trinity, gear progression).

I’m definitely in the former group but there are still things I’d like to change, or should I say there are things I think would improve the game for most players, especially my group.

I’ve been doing world completions this week (in between playing the Last of Us) and there are just so many awesome parts to this game. Jumping puzzles that are just really fun, events with a real epic feeling and environments that still wow me.

I am curious to know if AN will ever bend to the wishes of the later group I mention above as they certainly make up the larger of the two and losing them will put a dent in the games profits. I think every players no matter how happy have a personal wish list.

For me it’s functional player housing, a more meaningful/necessary crafting system and of course some rock hard dungeons (this latest one has real promise!). Most of all I’d love to see WvsW given some love as its the thing that will keep the beating heart of Guild Wars 2 going.

Just a question, if ArenaNet released a statement today saying that the Karka Queen has a 20% chance of dropping precursors what would happen?

Players would move to Southsun on mass and never leave, why? Motivation

You can make the playerbase do anything with the right motivation but here in lies the problem. With no progressive gear treadmill in place (progression I think they call it) AN are relying on the sheer fun of the game to keep players playing and keep players interested.

That raises the second problem, ok so I can’t progress my gear and work towards a better me (I’ve been wearing the same gear for 5 months)? Ok what can I work towards to fill my need to feel like my time is moving me toward a goal as opposed to killing the same mobs I’ve been killing for nine months.. what do you mean there isn’t anything?

No matter how well you dress an MMO up by its very definition it’s a largely repetitive and soul destroying grind and no MMO has ever changed this. The ONLY reason why WoW is still going is for the loot, the never ending gear hunt. I agree it’s bobbins, Id rather not have it but unless you replace gear motivation with other type of motivation people get bored very fast.

The only way around this is to let players craft their own bit of world. Player housing, building farms, making meaningful gear/items and giving players the ability to “affect the world in a very perminant way” (I’ve heard that before somewhere…

Guild Wars 2 is a theme park MMO so it doesn’t have any of that and we are not gonna get any, any time soon. I love this game and enjoy it very much but I so wish for some new and innovative ideas.

Am I the only one who thinks the new three armour skins look awful?

The medium one isn’t too bad but the other two look more like clown outfits.
