Solo and 5 man team or bust.
Bad ArenaNet. Bad.
no you lose my point
the important part for me, im not a legendary (im a simple silver one )and i dont care a kitten about legendary ranks, im only concerned of how can snowball through ranks ,and for my part you are still part of the problem, not only this, you(the ones like you, i dunno know if we are in same region)are a more big problem, in the proces of boosting your friend you can be crossed my ranks div and you clearly dont belong in those ranks and for mid players getting one of yours in ours matches is not fair
i only talket about legendary cuz its more clear and evident talking about a rank low populated that one whith hundreds of players
I see your argument but you’re missing mine. So we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this.
Teaching and “boosting” are two different things. I have no doubt that any of my friends I played with gained enough knowledge to maintain their rating at wherever we ended up.
‘’ I didnt get the titles so nobody deserves them ’’ Try harder next season instead of complnaining
Yet another incorrect statement. Try engaging in some reading comprehension next time instead of trolling.
I dont know how you could say the NA scene was a success. I had matches in gold 3/plat 1 where i was the best player on my team vs 4 of the top 100 players on the other team.
Other people had pics and made threads of being in low gold/ silver playing against multiple top 250 players.
So boom match making is already messed up. The NA scene was plagued with pro league players duo queing/dodging/ alt accounts. The Leader Board is not a legit top 250 players since there are multiple alts etc etc etc.
I know Lord Hammder already made a note of it but here are some of the most important things to me for a competitive scene.
1- Fair match making
2- Fair Leader board
3- Fair rating system
4- Fair class balance
5- Fair rewardsIf you are a 145lb fighter you dont want to fight the 205 champ which happened in NA, after losing you were heavily punished whiched happened and you dont want to hear that the 205 fighter is jacked on juice which also happened. Then you find out that the commission punished the fighters manager and cut man because not everyone who cheated was removed from the leader board.
For me only rewards of S5 were a great new item from the first 4 seasons.
I agree with all of this. The system put in place by ArenaNet, in conjunction with a toxic NA community, ruined the entirety of Season 5.
There will be no successful PvP season until matchmaking is fixed. I don’t mind losing 400-500 in a close and intense match. I do mind losing 50-500 in blowouts against a team filled with players I should not have been matched up against, including those who were gaming the system, then lose 50 rank points to with zero decay.
Someone in my other thread accused me of exaggerating when I said I lost 50 points in a loss to a top 25 ranked duo when I had zero decay, but the fact is I did and I believe there was a previous forum post about this as well.
mmm… you dont understand the problem, many of the “legendary” did the same, someones with 3 or more acounts… lets get some math
imagine for a moment, round numbers, that the 250 legendari ranks are filled only by 125 real players that get legendary in 2 acounts and for diferent time disponibility there is a max of less than 40 real legend players at peak hour. this is the isue that makes the rank manipulation easy
I understand the problem you’re pointing out, but you missed my point. I was only actively pursuing a leaderboard position on one account. The other was to queue with friends who were less than competitive. It had zero bearing on “real” players being on at a peak hour. I was merely trying to pass what little PvP knowledge I had on in the hopes they become “real” players in the future.
Further, what good is there in having more people in those positions, if the “legendary” players are actively participating in match manipulation and pushing some of these people out of the ranks, which is what I felt like happened to me and others in this forum. I’ve also received multiple PMs in game from those who admitted this happened to them as well.
NA really dug itself into kitten, and the worst part about it is that while the season as a whole generated more interest in PvP for one reason or another, it has discouraged a lot of players who are competitive or on the verge of being competitive from trying, because those who are in the best position to help the community decided to help themselves instead.
“I Played in two acounts X games”……
“I played in two acounts Y games”……realize you that you are part of the problem filling ranks with no “real” players?
Except that’s a conclusory statement. I’d say I was helping the problem by encouraging guild mates who would otherwise never play in ranked PvP to play because I was willing to duo queue with them, without having to “sacrifice” my personal rating. We’re not even talking about any meaningful “ranks” here, we’re talking about players who 1-9 their placement matches and don’t have anyone to help them improve their game. I’m not carrying a bronze player to gold 3.
I’m also fairly certain that I played more games on either account over the season than many other players, so does that mean that anyone who played less matches than me were also part of the problem?
as one of 2 ppl with the 3rd place title …
Technically, you’re one of six people with the 3rd place title.
The fact that so many people come to defend dh..only reinforces the OP point.
I don’t think it’s all that simple. There’s probably more of a tier-based biased in this because the playability vs. value of a DH depends both on the tier and the individual player skill.
In higher tiers assuming fighting on a point without crazy kiting:
A good druid will beat a good DH.
A good engi will beat a good DH.
A good warrior will beat a good DH.
An ele can sustain a fight against a DH indefinitely.
A good thief can beat a good DH (see Min v. kitten duels).
A good rev can beat a good DH, even after the nerfs.
After the buffs, a good power necro can even beat a good DH.
A good DH will likely beat a good mesmer.
What kind of response did you expect with a thread title like that? […] Well, kitten off, that’s the answer I give.
So, in other words, you’re willing to reward cheaters and exploiters in an imperfect system and tell me to kitten off because you have something to gain from it?
I should probably have clarified that I had a big issue with the NA leaderboard and not so much the EU one, but responses like these aren’t very conducive towards actually addressing the issues I brought up which are legitimate.
And of course I’m going to propose a solution and name the title that is controversial, it’s the best way to get people to read and react. So at least that’s working!
My point has nothing to do about my “bad luck” or because I “suck” or anything else. I’ll work hard again this off-season to improve my game play and try again next season.
I provided my own experiences to expand on the numerous issues that’s plagued this new system. And after I posted, even more issues came up (the lack of disclosure as to when the PvP season “ends” and how the end is determined).
I merely brought this up as a suggestion, people are free to agree or disagree with it as much they want, though half the responses seem to just be trolls who would rather resort to a personal attack than to actually provide anything constructive.
I agree that a lot of the problem lies with the NA community itself, as further evidenced by some of the responses I’ve gotten. I think, for the most part, the EU leaderboard is good.
Meanwhile in plat/legend there are still multiple DHs per team. Yep, totally dominate only low/mid ranks. Wake up.
No, there really isn’t.
To be honest with you, I didn’t read it at all.
Good. At least now we’ve established that your comments in this thread are meaningless. Thanks!
DH is a strong solo class but it is by no means overpowered.
People in the thread have already enumerated the many weaknesses it has. The reason why it dominates low-mid tier is because people in low-mid tier just haven’t gotten to the point where they can effectively counter DH.
For those people, my best suggestion is to actually play DH and see how fast you get wrecked by certain things before complaining.
If anything, I find warrior to be far stronger overall.
I have to say that the overall excitement and feel over this past PvP season has been much improved compared to the prior ones, but it is still riddled with problems.
The short of it is — I played nearly 400 games on my main and over 200 games on an alt account (mostly to duo with friends who don’t really PvP). I did not exploit the decay system. I did not participate in trading wins. A friend and I managed to play our way to top 100 a week and a half before the season ended, and maintained a 4 game win streak. I lose a match. Two players on the other side were two of the individuals who were removed from the leaderboards. I’m not saying that was the cause for the loss, but it irks me that from that, I lost 50 points (with no decay!). How a loss to a duo queue of 2 top 25 players results in a loss of that many points baffles me. The next loss dropped me out of the top 250 and I was never able to recover.
The subsequent wins/losses were all close, but even maintaining a 60% win ratio, I was consistently losing 25 points per loss but only gaining 15. After about 10 matches, I started getting more and more teammates who were uncommunicative and unhelpful. For example, I was in a match and 1v2ing far, which allowed us to be up 350-150. I never dropped below 70% hp. Suddenly 2 teammates decide to come and “help” and we end up losing the match 450-500 because the other team 3 capped us when those two teammates ran off the two point rotation.
Over the past weekend, the threshold for the top 250 has inflated as many people are now either actually playing or actively exploiting decay volatility. The #1 player is now someone who managed to snipe the spot on an alt account.
I’m not saying I deserve to be in the leaderboards, but I can guarantee many other players who legitimately battled their way up are faced with the same situation and the same frustrations. ArenaNet made some effort to improve the quality of the leaderboards in the last week, which was commendable, but honestly it was too little too late. Implementing a fix the last week cannot wipe out months of damage to the integrity of the boards.
While I’m sure many people in the top 250 deserve their spots, all the above issues mean a lot of spots are occupied by people who “lucked out” because they either avoided them or it worked in their favor. I played with and against a lot of those accounts and there are definitely players more deserving to be there who are not.
I don’t think any titles should be given out, because all this season did was encourage toxic behavior from the NA community (EU felt a lot better).
Going forward, I think a lot of the changes that need to be implemented have been brought up.
- Higher threshold for games needed.
- Weekly game requirements and/or revamping of decay.
- Reduced volatility so people cannot leapfrog entire tiers by just decaying/playing.
- Losses are overly punishing and wins may not be rewarding enough (i.e., the best player with the highest MMR on a team may be carrying but the team losses, and that player is punished more for the loss than the rest of his or her teammates).
- Matchmaking is still terrible and unfair (too many high vs. low MMR blowouts).
- Duo queuing presents logistical problems, though solo only isn’t likely to be much better.
Finally, please bring back 4-5 man team queues and allow a solo queue to have the option to “pug” for a team if it is a 4 man.
Ceimash was able to get to legend just by using core necromancer without Reaper.
I can do the same thing on Necro as well. Sure, it requires a lot more skill and is harder but it isn’t impossible and it is DOABLE. S/F Fresh Air Eles on EU have gotten to Legend. Sizer who plays S/D thief and not meta HAS GOTTEN TO LEGEND. Maygi on NA who plays D/D condi thief HAS GOTTEN TO LEGEND. Core LB power rangers have gotten to legend, burn guardians have gotten to legend, Revenants who run Mallyx instead of Shiro have gotten to legend. Do I need to list anymore for you to get the point? And i’m not insulting anyone, it is a FACT not an OPINION its a FACT that if you are highly skilled enough you can make a build that you created work. As for elementalist, the support build is only RECOMMENDED to be ran, does it mean you are mandatory to run it? Absolutely not. Stop with your Q.Qing and putting salt on this thread that I made so that ArenaNet can get ideas off to balance their classes. Unless you have something informative to say rather than Q.Q all day then say it, but if you don’t leave.
Fact: none of those builds are used in actual competitive play.
Opinion: none of those builds are viable in actual competitive play.
The threshold should have been 100 matches.
If someone is a dedicated PvPer, they could at least average 1 match per day over the course of an entire season.
Not quite. Your logic doesn’t flow.
Assume you, in platinum, ~1700, duo with someone in silver, ~1100. You average out to 1400, placing you in mid gold tier matches.
Assume that your friend in silver is actually an alt account with a tanked rating, but he or she is actually also a platinum level player.
2 plat + 3 gold >> 5 gold.
Your boosting in season 1 worked because it was possible to team queue, and if you only had 1 low tier player, it does not drag the overall average down as much with 4-5 people as it does with just 2 people.
EDIT: math fail.
Yep, way to allow people to boost their way into leaderboards with easy matches using alt accounts.
This combined with the decay variability and it feels like very little was actually thought out in how exploitable gaining rating can be.
So how much are you willing to bet? Im willing to put 300g on the line.
So grab your d/d evade thief.
I honestly don’t know why people are complaining so much. I’m not a “top player” and I’m willing to bet I can beat the d/d evade spam build on any class.
There are so many counters to it, but most people seem to think it’s OP just because they decide to sit on the point and tank the damage while spamming their skills hoping to hit the thief.
There are very few classes you can play without HoT to still be competitive in PvP.
It’s doable, you just need to be really, really, really good.
I think fishball was trying to point out that by not taking into account number of games played, it allows the pros to abuse the system.
Winning is so heavily placed on the skill of you teammates, that it is silly the game doesn’t take personal contribution into account when adjusting mmr. One bad player dying far all game can lose you whole game, nothing you can do about it.
This is so true. In my matches, I’ve tried to find ways to lessen the impact. If I flat out ignore them rushing far and feeding points, it doesn’t work because the opposing team is not only better at 1v1 against that person far, but they will continue to rotate and fight us 5v4 around the rest of the map. The only times I win is when my team is substantially better in a team fight than the opposing team.
If I, or other teammates, go to help support this one person rushing far and dying, we will inevitably end up in a team fight at far, during which the rusher will be singled out and killed rather quickly leaving us with another outmanned fight at far. Even if we win, it’s hard to out-sustain the other team on their home node, and we will eventually either die to a lack of cooldowns from a constant storm or we will lose the rest of the map trying to maintain that position.
The problem in both cases is the one person refuses to rotate or go anywhere else, and even if he or she did, it would likely just be another 5 points for the opposing team.
EDIT: Also, sometimes even if I ignore the person rushing far, my other teammates will sometimes rush over there to help. In which case, it’s a 10 point meal instead of 5.
GG.
Bring back team queues, and at least let us play with our friends against opposing teams.
I ran into this same problem the past day — fell out of platinum to low tier gold such that I couldn’t even buy a win. Teammates pushing far on respawn and dying one by one by themselves. Bad rotations. Afk players at the start of the match or they’ll go afk in the middle. Did they secretly patch matchmaking to suck more?
I agree but what way is there to reward individual skill? The only result at the end is whether or not your team wins or loses. If you include criteria for individual performance, you’ll be incentivizing playing to meet that criteria rather than playing for a team win.
I sometimes play a d/d condi thief and to be honest, it’s an easy build to fight against if you know what to do…
I have a hard time against good DHs, warriors, engis, druids, regular thieves, necros, eles (with diamond skin), and mesmers.
It’s a soft counter to most revs and that’s about it.
Not harsh if it’s true.
Ultima Online. … 15 chars
Sorry, but Skyhammer is still a terrible map.
Also get rid of all the PvE extra crap they added in.
My thief
What armor is that?
There is no “best gear” per se. The best stat items are ascended gear, but you can mix and match components to achieve the stats you want.
Different WvW guilds run different requirements, but if you are talking about the traditional group set up, it’s usually GWEN: Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist, and Necromancer.
Pick teams are usually Mesmer, Thief, and a d/d Elementalist.
1. There is no “WvW gear” unless you refer to the WvW specific infusions for ascended gear, which does not provide any advantage against another person.
2. There are more EU players in the upper tiered servers, but generally speaking EU players are very welcome on US servers due to WvW being a coverage game.
3. Guild is up to you, but you can start by entering into the borderlands and joining in your server’s respective Teamspeak and forum (if any).
4. Was this a question? If you’re not sure what your server is ranked, you can check here: https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/wvw
Hello all,
I took a break from the game for about half a year and am finding myself in need of a new guild and/or server. I’d like a WvW focused guild that understands I will not be on every night due to real life obligations, but will have enough of an active roster to have people to run with.
I also prefer a server which has decent fights in PST prime time, and at least some action over the course of the day/night. I’m not interested in blobs, so no T1. I’m also not interested in hardcore guilds which have raid requirements, obviously because I am busy IRL. I’m a community focused person, so I’m not looking to bandwagon either.
My play style is pretty flexible. I can command, drive a GvG squad, play in a pick team, roam, havoc, etc. I’m highly experienced across all facets of this game, as well.
Cheers.

Starlight, aren’t you on GOM? Did you transfer to IOJ?
As much talk as there is on these forums, I have to say SoR has the most server pride out of any server in GW2. It’s a qualitative measurement, but from watching countless GW2 videos and reading through forums, SoR constantly shows up to defend itself as a realm rather than a guild.
Let me clarify your failure at clarification.
“SWAT only recently transferred in very recently, as in near the end of the league. So they didn’t transfer in because of leagues.”
If you bothered to read my post carefully and exercise some reading comprehension skills, at no point did I say that [SWAT] transferred for leagues. I’m positive HOD will provide a good community for them to continue playing WvW on, but I was speaking more towards the server as a whole.
“Also, tanked? Lol, old argument is old.”
Yes, that argument is old. Seven weeks old, in fact. Thank you for pointing that out.
“How is it possible to tank when our ranking did not change at all, also NSP took the last spot in Silver so it would’ve been impossible to get up a rank anyways since we were being smashed by Ebay. We also beat Kaining that week where as in the previous week they beat us.”
You mean the week when Kaineng began losing all their players and dropped to being a low population server? It is possible to drop in rankings when your Glicko score does not change, considering some servers, you know, actually put forth the effort towards entering the league they should be in.
“In regards to population, we really do have a low population, in terms of overall. Most of our population does WvW, but if you play PvE anywhere outside Queensdale you can usually run across one or two guys.”
Again, I refer back to my original post. Maybe you have a low overall population, but you still have far more people that KN, ET, and FC. You even admit that most of your population does WvW, so your WvW population is already stacked compared to the rest of Bronze League.
“Sorry most of you got hurt when we kept dropping Dolyak finishers on your face, but I’m not sorry.”
Thank you for undermining ahstanford’s statement that HOD has a “mature, adult crowd.” I’m sure he greatly appreciates the positive PR for your server and his guild.
P.S. Looking forward to facing you guys on the field [SWAT]. The fights are always fun.
“The population on the server is very low (one of the lowest in the game) however WvW is active and the server is beating servers with a much higher population. The server isn’t very zergy and queues are rarely an issue, but enemy zergs are present for good fights.”
I’m not trying to troll your post, but I would like to clarify some things. As far as North American servers go, Kaineng, Eredon Terrace, and Ferguson’s Crossing are the last three low population servers. While I can’t argue that Henge of Denravi has lower population than, say, Blackgate, you can hardly call yourself a low population server.
I think this is expounded upon by the fact that you are in Bronze League, and the only server I would say can put up a decent fight against your numbers is Sorrow’s Furnace. In fact, this past WvW season, you played against a total of zero servers that have a higher WvW population than you, so I don’t see how you can claim you’ve beat servers with much higher population — at least in that interim. From what I recall, your server purposely tanked its WvW ranking to drop into Bronze League just so you could win first place, which ended up drawing a number of transfers over so that they could claim to be Season One champions.
Finally, I think “zergy” is a matter of perspective. Maybe the 60 people you can field in a borderland doesn’t feel like a lot to you, but your single borderland population can reach our entire WvW population here on FC on any given night.
Hello dean.2691. I applaud your decision to stay on Ferguson’s Crossing. We are currently looking to increase our recruiting efforts for the server. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions. Here is a link to our recruitment thread:

Hey Zarmaka!
Thanks for the offer, but I’m really looking to start my own guild. I tried a branch of my friends guild in WoW and it never really worked out too well.
Im new to GW2, and have come to realize it is very hard to make money in this game, the most successful technique i have found is merchanting.
I was wondering how many people would be interested in a Merchanting Guild, in which is a guild where people share strategies and work together to maximize profit.
This guild would not be purely for merchanting, and would have group events for PvE, PvP and WvW, or whatever else the players of the guild would like to do. Basically just merchants who like to talk to other merchants and play with them as well.
As for my background, I’m very new to GW2 and joined about a week ago, throughout my life i have played games such as Runescape and WoW and had been very successful merchanting in them. Currently i don’t have a lot of money but I’m sure it will be going up soon very quickly, especially if other people like this idea and help in the starting of the guild.
Anyone who is a good leader can differently become an officer, and i will also need a few starting officers/Co-GMs. I am thinking have 3 Co-GMs that are all on the same level, none more powerful then the other so choices can be made more rationally.
Whether you want to get your foot in the door, or have been doing it all your life, post if your interested.

HUGEEE recommendation, i hope this gets read.
New accounts should be eligible for free server transfers for the first 7 days. Since this game is different from many others where the first world you click is the one you are stuck with, a lot of new players will not be able to get the gems to transfer servers and if they are on a bad server, likely just give up on the game way easier.
By 7 days playing, players should have at least been able to get their foot in the door and see what the game is about, join a guild and see what server they want to play on. I accidentally clicked the wrong server when i first joined (about a week ago) and thought i was going to have to pay, was pretty upset until i realized it was free transfers.
