I loved this game, but after WvW got crapped on repeatedly with (A) no ascended gear for ages, (B) some ascended gear still couldn’t be bought with badges – i.e. force carebearism (if its a word) down peoples throat, © repition without any real sense of accomplishment for winning or losing.

I don’t mean to complain, but coming back and seeing all the forum negativity, I’m wondering if the game is starting to die WvW wise?

Maybe somebody can provide a bunch of new things that have happened, but its GW2 has been uninstalled for a few months and don’t plan on installing unless there is something really astounding.

I’m not talking about making Legendaries common, I’m talking about making them more accessible. The way to do this is to allow the precursor to drop twice as much. One of the flawed problems with the precursor is that it is still unbelievably hard to obtain. Many people just need to get their hands on one before they even dare start to grind/planning around a legendary. This game is growing very stale and one of the best ways to motivate them is giving them a hope of getting a precursor. I used the word hope because the ability of getting one is pretty much out of reach. Unless you’re lucky and/or rich or play the market soundly you have no hope of ever getting a legendary.

What they need to do is implement some actual bonuses that are going to do something to balance WvW. They need to make it so that if your server is outmanned that you get a 5% damage and health increase. Do I really think that would actually be enough? No. Maybe make it while you’re outmanned that you can carry double supplies and the second the outmanned buff drops your supply reverts to normal levels. One could also make it harder to take fight NPCs. One could increase siege damage. There are so many ideas, but the XP and Karma boosts are stupid.

There is absolutely no evidence that servers are going to start running with fewer numbers on purpose for the buff. Even if it was a 10% increase to damage and health it would not be significant enough to unstack a map. Keep in mind that the better the server is doing on a map, the more people that want to join in on the fund and will inevitably crash the buff.

To be fair, there’s nothing legendary about buying the precursor off the TP or random luck from the MF either.

Well if the supply of the Dawn went up, the demand for the other parts would go up in value. That’s why to widen the base it would still require the other mats to essentially double. People are willing for ANET to take their cash, but it has to be attainable.

We see this all the time in airline industry. They charge cheap tickets, but everything such as luggage is much higher just to incentives demand i.e. profit.

Go into Excel and just try making up some empirical data just to test the idea. Let’s say we split the wealth between 4 quartiles. Lets say that we have 2000 in Q1, 3000 in Q2, 3000 in Q3, and 2000 in Q4. Let’s say that only people in Q4 can actually purchase/craft a Legendary. With a Legendary going for 1600 gold, almost all of Q4 purchases one. That’s $3,200,000.00 worth of gold. Now if they doubled the drop rates for the precursor and materials to the point that all of Q3 could to afford to buy a Legendary, then Q4 & Q3 would have a combined purchase of $4,000,000.00 worth of gold. That’s a 800,000.00 gold difference just because we widened the base. Add in the fact that most people in the Q4 don’t buy gems at all I just see this as a no brainer to double the drop rates for precursor and mats. Now imagine if the income inequality was really skewed towards the wealthy players (which is probably accurate). This would suggest that increasing supply would be even more important.

Goloith.6349

It absolutely is. Take a look at http://www.gw2legendary.com/

Also farming CoF everyday is a bit ridiculous.

It is really simple economics, but I did some calculation and it looks like the costs of the Legendary would actually go up by about 600 gold with current drop rates for none-precursor materials. Not really great news if ANET did not also double the drop rate for those mats too.

Anyways go to Microsoft Excel and try adding the prices in yourself.
For example take the current price of Sunrise:
Dawn: 514
Gift of Fortune: 413
Gift of Mastery: 0
Gift of Sunrise: 470

Now what would happen if double the drop rate of Dawn?
Dawn: 257 (Increased Supply)
Gift of Fortune: 826 (Increased Demand)
Gift of Mastery: 0
Gift of Sunrise: 940 (Increased Demand)

It would actually increase the amount of revenue that would be generated by those wishing to get their hands on a precursor, but they would be nickel and dimed unless other drop rates changed.

P.S. I know things don’t simply double, but they would definitely head that direction.

Like the title says, ANET needs to double the precursor drop rate. Now I can see a few people that spent a fortune with real currency to obtain these, but they are minuscule to the total revenue that ANET could receive if the “base was widened”. Also many of the people that own legendaries did not spend a dime ever in the gemstore. Call them the lucky ones that got a precursor drop early, flipped it, and repurchased when it was lower. Same goes with other market hawks.

So how exactly can ANET make more money and make more players happy?
It’s simple supply and demand really. If precursors would double what would happen? The price for precursors would drop a little less than half. This would in turn put precursors in the viability range for a lot of players to purchase…….well almost. It would spark huge demand for gems to cover the extra 100-200 gold needed to buy the precursors. It would also greatly increase the demand for the other mats needed in creating the actually legendary. The increased demand for those other mats would compensate a bit for doubling the drop rate. It would also force demand on none-legendary materials.

Overall we would see the price come down, but would give a huge perception that legendaries are actually attainable.

What they need to do is implement a server called RvR that you guest to and each server can partake in a massive sovereignty fight a crossed all of Tyria.

That way we can get read of server stacking almost completely. How many of you have ever played Eve Online? Those big servers that constantly kitten off the little servers are going to get gained up on and going to go down in flames. That will balance things out. The game already has the great mechanic with its zones/portals.

First I want to say that I’m glad that you are thinking about the people that want jumping puzzles and I appreciate that, but I think ANET needs to start thinking about the people that absolutely hate them with a passion.

Now I’ll be the first to say that I hate them. It’s almost a game breaker and I know most people in almost every single guild I’ve ever been in feel the same way. Does it mean that we want to be given a “free lunch”? Of course not. So ANET please give us something as an alternative to the jumping puzzles. I would rather spend 20-50% more time doing something that I can actually accomplish and enjoy it. Most people that hate jumping puzzles hate them so much they would rather grind.

So with that thanks,

What really needs to happen is that dust needs to be completely removed from the game and let say 4 of an item will upgrade itself or they need to make T1 – T5 dust wildly available so that there is some actual demand for players to go out and farm in low level zones. Converting materials is necessary in any economy and it is mind boggling how ANET has designed this so terribly.

Future GW2 Update/Patch

I know I’m probably not the first person to think of this, but what if we took the current world of Tyria and turned it into a massive Realm vs. Realm?
For those that don’t know what I envision, take a look at how Eve Online has run their sovereignty system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDTlvD6jAPY

First of all, why is this cool?
Because this gives people a chance to be a part of something really amazing that people will remember. How many of you Eve Online players remember “Sir Molle” or “The Mittani”? These people became game legends, for good or worse. Instead of GW2 having to focus on creating so much content to keep the masses happy people can dynamically alter the game world constantly striving for the goal of their realm conquering all of Tyria. This also would give WvW players a much needed change of scenery.
An important aspect is the ability for small realms to participate and leave an impact in the game. I can’t tell you how many little corps/alliances have impacted Eve Online and I would like to see all players from all realms feel that joy of sticking it to the big guy on the block. http://goo.gl/7czJu.
Probably the most remarkable benefit of implementing this is the fact that the low populated zones across Tyria will actually be populated!

So how would this work?
First things first, parts of the map are already separated by zones and to access these other zones one must go through the map portal or take a waypoint. My suggestion would be to model the world of Tyria to that of Eve Online’s jump gate system.

So how would all of this go down?
Well I’m sure the developers could do a better job of this than me, but I would say that the stage must be set at launch. We would need an option in the server list called “RvR Tyria” that people could join. I would say at launch there is a “rush” where all realms can pour onto the map via Lion’s Arch’s portal hub linked to the various capitals. However there will be one problem……no waypoints will be available other than in the capital cities. Players will have to hold and upgrade their zones so that they can get them waypointed and fortified just like in WvW, but through dynamic events and daily heart completions. Or maybe you’re realm slaughters enough enemies you can use the enemies supplies for your zone. Also once an entire region is captured, then a capital city can be taken over by that specific realm. Then that portal will no longer be accessible in Lion’s Arch. This will give players of that realm a huge buff, but not towards actually killing people, but rather with decrease upgrade times, resource production, workers, etc. Does this mean that people will be completely cut off from Lion’s Arch? Absolutely not. Once the realm has established a waypoint they can just jump from their waypoint to Lion’s Arch waypoint. If the realm doesn’t have a waypoint there will be Black Lion Merchants around trying to capitalize on the war.

So what about WvW?
Well it is still important part of the game, but instead of WvW bonuses helping PvE’s that don’t WvW, the WvW bonuses will help Realm vs. Realm players. Do I see WvW becoming much less densely populated? You bet, but structure/siege HP/DMG values can be adjusted accordingly.

So what about the rest of Tyria that does not want to participate this Realm vs. Realm action?
These PvE’ers that want to be left alone in peace will have the default setting of being on their specific realm. Now do I see PvE’ers being a bit discouraged about this move? Well I might suggest free or discounted realm transfers so that all the PvE’ers can relocate to highly populated PvE servers. Or maybe Anet can devise a system that after a certain amount of time guesting onto another realm other than the RvR Tyria server that that they can just transfer to that realm.

I think that this is a much needed way for GW2 to provide the casual alternative to Eve Online’s sandbox. If Eve Online can constantly grow through its 19th expansion I could see GW2 do the same thing if implemented right. The average person does not have the will power or the patience to put themselves through Eve Online and we need a great alternative http://goo.gl/pNdXb. I want the developers to stop creating new carrots to please the “content whores”, and let the players find their own carrot in the sandbox.

So with that, let’s discuss!

Honestly a zerg should have enough Guardians with Clerics gear that you should just focus on staying alive. If a person wanted to, you could always go mace or sceptor/shield or focus instead of GS for more tank.

With your i7 920 you should be able to hit 4-4.2 ghz easily. That’s what I’m running and it helps getting that extra 0.60 ghz out.

I’m running with the following settings:
Tuning Mode: Extreme OC
Ai Overclock Tuner: Manual
BCLK Frequency: 199
PCIE Frequency: 100
DRAM Frequency: 1595 (I’m using 1600 atm).

CPU Voltage: 1.30000
QPI/DRAM Core Voltage: 1.31250
(scroll down)
DRAM Bus Voltage: 1.51106
Everything else should be left on auto.

for your memory make sure it’s set to what’s on the memory sticks.

Sadly, not every processor is created equal. Some eat more voltage to get to higher clocks than others to remain stable. For instance, my processor I could only get to 4.1Ghz before I reached what I consider the safe voltage wall.

Does ANET not have an economist at all? Where the hell is John Smith on this? Basic economics is clearly being ignored. ANET seems like they want the zerg and then they don’t want the zerg. There’s a saying “plan ahead or plan to fail” and ANET is continuing to fail in WvW.

Let me help you out ANET:
AoE Nerf (+ zerg)
Arrow Carts (- – zerg) annihilates all groups
WXP (+ + zerg)
Traps (+ zerg) – small groups are going to get robbed of their supply before they can ever take anything.
Reward (+ zerg)

Make up your darn mind. Do you want zergs or not (guess they do)? You don’t need to keep adding junk.

We want rewards for escorting yaks prioritized. We want another map possibly, we want a reason to sit at a tower and defend it instead of being there for hours bored out of our mind (construction mini game?). We want Ascended items for WvW. We do not want to do this crappy thing called PvE in this game. Other games do it much better.

Quit trying to dictate how players play and start listening to them, otherwise more of your players will leave.

Too much supply. Not enough demand.

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Goloith.6349

Goloith.6349

I agree that the economy in this game is pretty bad, but compared to other games it gets some kudos. However, what the real problem is that there is no demand(supply sinks) in the game for low level materials.

So what needs to be done?
Invent demand/supply sinks.

How can this be done?
-Remove the repair vendors and have a player driven economy through homogeneous craftable repair kits available for all trades except cooking. Quality/charges would be based on the tier of materials used to craft it.
-Remove “dust” as the mechanic to convert materials from a lower tier to a higher tier. That way people can mystic forge the lower materials into higher ones. If one would like to keep the dust mechanic in then maybe greatly increase the dust drops to make this economical to do so.

Some people will say that it will be harder to level through crafting, but I hate to break it to people the game was meant to played, not crafted to 80. As far as the low levels goes, they finally can make some good money on there way leveling up by selling these higher priced lower materials.

Everyone wins.

Here’s my idea. I would like to see the amount of supply to either double or triple in WvW. Hold your questions and follow me for a few second and I’ll get to my reason. Where are the increases needed?
-Camps
-Dolyaks
-Siege upgrades
-Repairs
-Carrying amount

Why?
In order to make WvW more fun I would like to see the amount of supply increased so that players can partake in the construction/upgrading of towers/keeps themselves and be rewarded handsomely for it. Right now many towers don’t really get a enough supply to keep the worker working, let alone enough if 2-5 players want to put in the effort and build it up. It would also force the server who took something to leave a bunch of people there to upgrade/construct it and defend it. Players will need to be rewarded in karma and badges.

Just an idea.

I really like the idea about adding more capture points to a map. Tbh JQ has been #1 for a really long time (not this week ofc) and it would be really fun to see more fights that are not blob warfare. It’s boring and stale.

However I would rather they not decrease keep/towers HP. I would however make the hp/strength of these towers dictated by the amount of people on a server. If you are out-manned your towers hp should get a boost and when you’re attacking your siege damage should go up. I think having that scaling/variability would help.

I think that anything that breaks up the zerg (arrow cart buff was a silly/easy solution) is important.

An example of how the real world can learn from GW2 is that trying to force players to do a specific behavior is always detrimental to an economy. Early on GW2 had this capitalistic feel and the market was fresh. That’s what most people bought into when this game was in beta and ready to be released. However there wasn’t enough demand so it swapped to a more socialistic economy for ascended gear to spread the wealth(gear) around. So basically what one can learn is that neither capitalism or socialism can function properly unless it has some type of civil libertarian mindset from the framers/legislators of governments. A big dev team limiting player choices by gated content is the same as big government forcing it’s populace into a certain behavior to survive/thrive.

We could learn that completely kitten economic models like communism could function in a world where money and work isn’t necessary for basic things like clothing, reproduction and shelter. GW1 is the perfect example, there’s no upkeep on playing which makes cosmetics the only goal. There’s no society more egalitarian than the GW1 community. There’s no reason to play except for play’s sake.

Other completely insane models IRL are anarchism and extreme libertarianism. There’s no government smaller than an MMO host. There’s very few rules strictly enforced by a.net. As long as you don’t infringe on the rights of others by botting or harassing, you won’t get banned. Apart from a few ground rules, society is entirely regulated by the society itself. IRL such systems collapse eventually.

In the real world this could work if food, shelter and reproduction were not an issue. Yes, reproduction is a core necessity in life to which most effort is directed once survival is guaranteed. These basic necessities undermine the viability of libertarianism and communism alike IRL because sooner or later someone is going to take control over them.

Extreme libertarianism lol, darn American founding fathers were completely insane I guess. You know libertarians are fiscal conservative, socially liberal right? You also understand that most political spectrums have libertarians as slight right of center? I suppose if you drove on the left shoulder of the left side the middle would seem pretty far away.

I’m as centrist/moderate as it can get. Most right-wing people consider me left-wing, and most left-wing people consider me right-wing. Funny Nice how you completely missed me saying how communism doesn’t work either.

Than don’t open your post up by supporting communism out of the gate. I think you are confusing by accident. I’m glad you meant differently. However I would suggest reading the blog by the Washington post that shows libertarian approach that has lead to the success of Eve Onlines economy and game.

This is GW2 and its a vastly different game. The developers wanted a player driven economy. The problem however is that they did not develop enough low level material “supply” sinks into the game. This causes for insane prices for endgame content. If they required materials from all tiers in their crafting we would see higher levels visiting lower areas and their dynamic events.

They also need to create a reasonable path to legendaries. I understand that you don’t want everyone to have them, but ANET let the cat out of the bag and just giving one to people that showed up to one event was a terrible idea. One way to rectify this is to allow for the creation of said precursor. Make it be a legendary process that requires all tiers of materials. It will give players a real attainable goal. Right now a precursor is like trying to obtain a great paying job. People find it too hard and give up and don’t participate at all. That’s bad for any economy, RL or Virtual.

I understand that this game has to make a profit and pay the developers, but if you broaden the base of players and get players involved in all aspects chances are they will pay a few $$$ on gems to facilitate a path of least resistance. An example is your mining pick. If a player doesn’t want to keep buy picks for farming they might buy one. They might go for a gathering booster too.

Sometimes its seems hard to make money as a company if the virtual economy is great, but both can be satisfied with the right balance. Again take a look at what Eve Online has done and you’ll have your answer.

Editted to add a few others thoughts.

In a virtual world; with a click of a button you can create an unlimited supply of anything even if the population is zero.

Can’t do that in the real world.

That’s really a moot point. Players who play the game can’t do it. Anet, while they can do it, will never do it.

The other big thing that Eve Online does is it has an easily convertible exchange rate between all commodities (ore, ship parts, salvage, Isk=$$$). GW2 lacks this and everytime you create a new currency you are taking the exact opposite direction. What GW2 needs to do is make everything liquid like Eve Online’s “Isk”. This would require crafting materials, Badges, Karma, and gems to be all converted into whatever currency a player wants. Whenever you try and dictate player behavior it has negative impacts just like in real life economies. Ever wonder why the U.S. economy has has been the most prosperous these last 200+ years? Your answer is market freedom.

The problem is, if you have many different currencies and a generous exchange rate, why have different currencies at all?

From a game design perspective, the reason why you have these exclusive currencies is to encourage players to play through unique content, and keep rewards unique.

If everything can be bought with gold (legendary)

1. You can do anything. More flexilibilty to the playerbase. (PRO)
2. Most efficient options become prioritized (CON)
3. A certain reward won’t imply mastery of specific content (CON?)

Whereas with exclusive currencies. (Dungeon armor)

1. You are restricted in content you have to do to earn rewards (CON)
2. Reward will imply mastery of specific content (PRO?)

There’s pros and cons to both sides of the argument. I tend to believe in option 2. (Unique dungeon armor, Legendaries should be account bound, etc.)

I’ll try to put some of your worries to rest. First, the currency issue. Easily convertible does not mean generous. Different currencies have different values. Say for example if a person wanted to covert tokens to another dungeon token. That would come at a cost to counter people from doing the easiest path. Also dungeon tokens should scale with the difficulty of the dungeon. If ANET tracked how many people did a dungeon and increased rewards for the least visited (usually the heaviest resist) it would correct that. As far as mastery goes I think it follows the conversation tables. A person that wants dungeon title for (D1) the will achieve it before someone doing (D2) and converting to (D1).

The thing that ANET needs to do is introduce a better way of converting lower crafting materials (without dust) or introducing endgame crafts with low level crafting materials. Right. Maybe removing the repair option with player made repair kits available for all crafts that are exactly the same. This also removes supply which has a much greater impact.

In another thread someone brought up the question, “what basis is there for considering the world of video game ‘economics’ has anything to do with ‘real world’ economies.” I thought it was an interesting question, can we learn more about our real world economies with more finite virtual economies?

Opening the floor.

A great starting point is to look to Eve Online’s economy. That games economy is renowned across the world as the best player driven virtual economy in existence. I understand that the cruelty of “player-death” in Eve Online is one of the biggest money sinks that drives it’s economy, but GW2 could do the same without such high consequences.

The other big thing that Eve Online does is it has an easily convertible exchange rate between all commodities (ore, ship parts, salvage, Isk=$$$). Too much work for temporary content.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goloith.6349

Goloith.6349

I’m sorry but all this holiday/seasonal crap is just a stupid move on ANET’s part. Yes it’s great to get it nailed down, but in a fast paced industry like this it’s important to produce sustaining content to keep the players playing the game. Who gives a rip about Halloween, or Chrismtas, or April Fools if people are quiting and will never see the content ever again. You just made a bunch of content that nobody will give two hoots about 1-2 years from now. Those will be your core gamers and they would have been around had you not had these development dead-ends in the first place.

One thing you’re missing is that Guild Wars 1 players, at least anecdotally DO care about those holidays. The busiest time in Guild Wars 1, the time with most people online and playing were the holiday events. And this isn’t a small jump in the population.

Shing Jea Monastry used to host the Cathan New Year every year. When events aren’t running, there was one zone in Shing Jea Monastary, or once instance of that outpost. Like when a city in Guild Wars 2 has no overflow servers.

On the festival days, there were 90 plus districts, or the equivalent of 90 overflow servers.

You can say what you do and don’t like, but I think you’d be mistaken to say that people don’t care about these events. Some people love them. If Guild Wars 1 is anything to go by, a lot of people.

This is Guild Wars 2, not one. The developers have insisted on making this a treadmill game so there are so many things that need fixing/streamlining that it’s important that they fix those first then even remotely think about this temporary work. Why not work on a new WvW map or something instead of a supid continent that nobody went to unless for guild rush or orichalcum nodes.

As it stands the games GUI is easily one of the ‘least optimal’ I’ve seen in a modern MMO, some simple things to make it better;

1) High visibility mouse cursor – as it is it gets lost between particle effects and screen refresh, a high viz option could help solve this.

This please!

However they finally fixed the Eyefinity profile so the chat & map are on the main screen.

Pls help! Planning to buy a laptop with configuration given below. Will it help to play guild wars 2. Its for minimum budget.

Processor APU Quad Core A10
Clock Speed 2.3 GHz With Turbo Core Technology Upto 3.2 GHz

GRAPHICS
Dedicated Graphics Memory Type DDR3
Dedicated Graphics Memory Capacity 2.5 GB
Graphic Processor 512 MB AMD Radeon HD 7660G (Integrated) and 2 GB ATI Mobility Radeon 7670M HD Graphics (Dedicated)

MEMORY
Expandable Memory Upto 8 GB
Memory Slots 2 (Unused Slot – 0)
System Memory 6 GB DDR3

Will it help me to play guild wars 2 atleast at medium settings?

Here is my suggestion:

-Go to http://tinyurl.com/fel6p
-It will help you look at the various mobile video cards out there for laptops.
-My suggestion is to find your actual dollar amount you are willing to spend and then Google these video cards or go to Newegg/Tiger Direct and try searching these mobile graphics cards. It should probably show the laptop they have for sale that has that video card in it.
-Keep in mind CPU is very important for GW2 – Intel wins this one. Higher the better. —You can always go here to find the best CPU: http://tinyurl.com/2r67xy
-Repeat the process for the CPU.

Laptops can be really tricky on specs so be very careful before you buy.

If you don’t mind me asking what is your dollar amount that you are willing to spend?

in WvW

Posted by: Goloith.6349

Personally I found it really frustrating that another commander could mess things up. Last night when I was on my new main (Davidah) we had two commanders that had no commander etiquette and split our forces causing us two loose a tower and a keep.

However, my fear is that if we have create a way to turn off the pin we may indirectly cause the new commanders from ever leading. It’s like young adults coming out of college i.e. how do you get experience to land a job if you can’t get experience?

I think that if there is a way ANET can scale the population of allies on a map to voting for a pin off I think it might be achievable. So if there is like 100 people on the map, 50 people are needed to turn the pin off. If there is 20, then 10 are needed to turn it off.

Again we need to be very cautious about this.

Why are Condition Builds < Berzerker

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goloith.6349

Goloith.6349

Because 10 * 10 > 10 + 10

This is exactly why. However with the advent of Giver’s gear & food it is now possible to at least get to:

10*10 (Berserker) > 10*5 (Vatlaaws/Carron). P.S. I know they have more surivablity, but there isn’t another stat that adds to damage.

They really need to have gear that gives the stats of:
Precision/Condition Dmg(the max stat)/Condition Duration (5% per piece)

That is the only way that condition damage will be somewhere on par with Berserker. This would give builds like the Engineer and other condition users more viable builds.

Until then condition damage will always be weaker and people will continue to run without condition removal in WvW.

So you are one of those that continue to attack while my confusion ticks on you for 3k per hit. It never fails to amaze me how many ppl die from confusion when almost all classes have at least on condition removal skill.

Absolutely not, I run a Engineer with 409 & Elixir C. Guardian is also a shout Guardian as well.

The problem is that many people do not run condition removal or not enough. Take a Mesmer, his clones don’t instantly jump to the target and detonate confusion so if you clear confusion the second you see it you might get hit with another stack before and then you’re out. I just think condition damage builds need to have an equivalent gear to berserkers.

Until then condition damage will always be weaker and people will continue to run without condition removal in WvW.

LOL what? ppl that run in WvW without any condition removal don’t last very long.

I know and I love that. Again bigger threat is not running enough condition removal.
